Upcoming Fic! “Come to Me”

The POTU: “The Periphery of the Uscru.” Or just call it like it is: “the peril of the Uscru.” Just this side of the Uscru Entertainment District on Coruscant, it is not a place one likes to be caught unawares, or alone.

It is exactly where General Draven has sent Sergeant Jyn Erso and Captain Cassian Andor on their first undercover mission, one month after the Battle of Scarif. Specifically, he’s sent them to the Blackout Region, at the suggestion of a junior Intelligence officer who Cassian has vowed revenge on. There are a lot of places in the galaxy that Cassian does not want to take Jyn Erso, and the Blackout Region on Coruscant is one of them. Worse are what their undercover roles are there.

They are to infiltrate as one of the Blackout brothels’ new heads of security – the local name is “silencers” – and what is effectively his contribution to the establishment as thanks for hiring and housing him: a brand new prostitute to replace the outgoing ilasha, a prostitute with a very important role.

A role that Jyn will be fulfilling, after one full week of Intelligence training that left her ready to hop the next ship pointed toward the Outer Rim with the Rebellion in her rear viewscreen. For Jyn must be the most alluring, most desire-worthy hooker in the entire establishment, the one who effectively holds court over all the other women, yet because she is the ilasha, The One Who Cannot Be Touched, she costs an exorbitant amount and with any luck, she won’t actually have to sleep with anyone for real.

It is the perfect cover for two undercover Rebel Alliance agents in the thick of shady dealings on Couruscant, who need to serve as a drop for the other Intelligence agents on Coruscant to check in and continue to pass their information along to the Rebellion.

Cassian doesn’t like it. Jyn doesn’t like it. It means weeks of close quarters, meeting in cramped spaces in the dark to check in with one another on their progress; a humid building with malfunctioning air conditioning and unforgiving heat outside; uncomfortable clothing for Jyn that leaves little to the imagination and hoping Cassian isn’t (or is, she’s not sure) looking; and all around them, the sounds of pleasure.

Pleasure, while they try to conduct business and save the galaxy from the Empire’s evil, and try to forget what everyone else is doing while they’re saying nothing, because it’s unprofessional to think about it, even if they already have, alone, and their hands clench into fists when they remember those nights. It’s dangerous, because there’s too much to lose if the line is crossed. It’s pointless, because they need to stay in control, and giving it would be the exact opposite of that. They’re stronger than this, and they know the war comes first.

It’s all business. Strictly business.

So why are their hearts pounding so much?

“Do you dream about it?” she asks and he finally looks at her. He doesn’t wake from nightmares like she does but he does sleep in a taut line, thrown out into war, and she wonders. She wonders how alone they both are.

“All day,” he says.

“How could you tell?” he quips back, instantly regretting it but she just laughs, leans in and presses her forehead to the curve of space between his nose and cheek. Her breath is rhythmic and steady, warm against his skin, and it’s too much, it’s not enough. Jyn, his body thrums, and then his hand is at the base of her neck, pulling her in.

a year later

Today is the one year anniversary of cast some light and you’ll be all right, the first part of my cast some light ‘verse.  I’ve seen some people commemorate their own anniversaries in the fandom before, so I figured I’d make my own little post for this.  I’m still a little burnt out creatively from the show I was in, so I haven’t managed to write anything substantial fic-wise just yet, but rest assured, I’m working on getting back on track there.  :D

I just want to thank all of you in the fandom, again, for your kindness and your enthusiasm and support. I know I’ve said this before, but it’s been a long time since I’ve been in a fandom that is so responsive and encouraging– and that general attitude keeps me around and keeps me writing about Jyn and Cassian and the rest of the Rogue One crew still now a year after I posted my first Rebelcaptain fic. I’ve made such good friends through the Rogue One/Star Wars fandom and I’m grateful for all of you guys.

Anyway, thanks everyone. And happy birthday to the story I used to call “the fic we don’t talk about”, the PWP fic that busted through my writer’s block and grew into a 22.5k (and counting) ‘verse that means so much to me. I’m very happy and very, very grateful.

1. On My Way by TinCanTelephone  This fic is so cute and beautiful. It’s a modern au really all about trying to move on with life, trying to make a place for oneself and finding a home, and it’s emotionally so amazing to read. Jyn and Cassian slowly and tentatively grow closer as they hang out and watch movies and she’s wary of him and he’s falling for her and it has its angsty parts and fluffy parts and overall, I LOVE IT. 

2. 182 Days by meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee  You said to rec fics you thought deserved more attention and when I took a glance at all my fics, this was one that I think got the least amount of attention in relation to how much effort I put in, lol. Either way, this is a ever-classic ‘thinking the other is dead’ fic in which a mission goes wrong, Jyn is left thinking that Cassian has been killed and she has to spend the next 182 days living with the idea that she’ll never see him again (you know, until he comes crashing back into her life bc I’m not THAT evil hahaha).

I was tagged by @callioope at a time when I was conveniently attempting to avoid my own writing, so thank you for helping me procrastinate, lol! 

+Where do you publish your work? "Publish” sounds a bit official, but I post my writing either here or on AO3 as Kobo! If I ever get around to publishing my original writing, I’ll probably publish it on my main blog @letthepeoplesay-oh!

+What medium/application/etc.? If I know I’m going to be sending my work to my beta, I’ll write it on Google Docs, since that’s how I’ll share it, but if I’m just going to be doing my own editing, I’ll write it on Microsoft Word since it never requires an internet connection and I can write wherever! One of my other favorite applications when it comes to editing is WritingAid, which will examine writing for overused words/phrases, find other filler words and the like. If you guys are looking for a quick editing tool, I would completely suggest it! (With the understanding that it is a machine and sometimes you have to roll your eyes at it and go “No, I want it to say that, thank you very much.��)

I’ve also some some random notes on my phone (since that’s always with me) whenever a really good line I want to remember runs through my head or if I come up with a good concept for a prompt! (The trick is remembering how I wanted to use that line when I finally get the chance to sit back down at my computer.)

+Do you collaborate with others? I can’t say that I have! I’m going to lean towards I simply wouldn’t collaborate and that has everything to do with me and little to do with other writers (because, believe me, I’ve met plenty of authors on this site that I would be honored to work with!) I’m just a bit... controlling when it comes to my work? Not the best quality, I realize, so I don’t want to subject other people to that!

+How much editing do you do before you publish? Depends on the fic, really. A lot of my prompts don’t get a lot of editing, especially if I’ve got several sitting in my inbox that I need to answer. Anything that’s a multi-chapter work (Luctor et Emergo, for example) gets literally so much editing before it’s published. I’ll hammer through chapters three or four times before they’ll see the light of AO3. 

+Do you listen to music? Yep! I can’t listen to music I know well, because I’ll start dancing and/or singing along (only to find words from those songs in my writing later on) but I have about 12 hours worth of soundtracks/scores on my phone (Harry Potter, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey... A whole, wide range) that I’ll play in the background, or I listen to salsa music, since it’s upbeat and I don’t speak the language they’re singing in, so I won’t accidentally write some of it down! (Another fun bonus with listening to music in Spanish: if I listen to enough of it, I convince Spotify I speak Spanish, and then it’ll start playing me ads in Spanish and, again, since I don’t speak the language, it’s a lot easier for me to ignore those than English ones!)

+How do you decide what to write about? When it comes to fics, I normally pick out one detail that I’d like to play with (I’m currently attempting to write a “What if Galen survived?” AU that’s a perfect example of this!) or some scenario that I’d love to see the characters in. Often, I’ll choose a plot because I really just want two characters to interact (like Jyn and Han in Begin Again or Jyn and Luke in Faith) and attempt to manipulate the environment around them to figure out how that would be logical!

+When do you write? I wish I was organized enough to have a specific time that I wrote, in all honesty. A lot of the time it’s in the afternoons when I first get home from work or in the morning when I have downtime at work. I often tell myself I’m going to write before I go to bed, but then I’ll often start scrolling through Tumblr instead and, well, that idea goes out the window. 

+How often do you write? Again, totally depends. Some weeks I’ll write every single day and then some weeks I won’t ever touch my keyboard in a creative sense. Ever since I started writing for Rebelcaptain, though, I don’t think I’ve let a full week go by without writing at least something for them. 

+Do you take requests? I do! I love getting prompts because I always feel more motivated to get a fic out there if I know there’s a specific person waiting for it, rather than just “Oh, I’d like to publish this sometime” (Those stories sit in my drafts for quite awhile, in all honesty). I can’t promise I’ll fill all requests or how quickly I’ll fill them, but if you guys have any prompts, feel free to send them my way!!

+Is there a genre or type of story you want to write but are hesitant to? To be completely honest, I’m a little hesitant of starting a multi-chapter fic within the Star Wars universe. One of my favorite ideas for a fic I’ve got bouncing around in the back of my head is a story where Jyn is raised by the Organas rather than Saw Gerrera, but I feel like I’m not familiar enough with the interworkings of the SW universe to write that accurately. Though I’ve loved Star Wars for most of my life, I’ve only really dived into the fandom with the last year or so. Hopefully at some point I’ll get past this, because I’ve definitely got things I want to write!

+Any inspirational quotes, videos, tricks, articles, etc that help you stay motivated? So this might be a little out of left field, but the other week I was googling when the next Game of Thrones book would be out and I found this wonderful quote from George R.R. Martin: “[The next book is] not done yet, but I’ve made progress. Not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now. I think it will be out this year (but, hey, I thought the same thing last year).” For some reason, that was just so comforting to me? Because if world renowned author George Martin gets behind on his projects, it makes me feel a bit better that I’m behind on mine as well!

+Go to page 7 of your WIP, skip to the 7th line, and share 7 sentences: As proof that I am not completely abandoning Luctor et Emergo, here’s a section of the next chapter, which is focusing on Cassian’s journey at Hogwarts:

“If you were one of my snarkier students, Andor, I’d worry you were giving me cheek with that question.”

Cassian attempted to smile at the professor, but found the motion difficult. If he had done the spell correctly, why did he need to demonstrate it again for the professor?

“Andor, you just performed that spell non-verbally,” Professor Draven told him, emphasizing the last word. “Which is a skill I don’t teach until after you’ve completed your O.W.L.s.”

“And here I’d just thought I’d lost my hearing,” Kay muttered, sending his own pillow flying with a “depulso” under his breath. When Cassian shot him a dirty look, he merely shrugged his shoulders. “What? You talk quietly enough on a daily basis.”

“One of us should,” Cassian shot back.

WARNING: MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH

Cassian Andor dies on the beach on Scarif, but Jyn Erso is given the gift of living forever, thanks to something mystical Lyra Erso had imbued into her kyber crystal necklace. Jyn begins to think it’s not a gift though, as she struggles to live with the memory of Cassian. It comes as a shock to her aching heart then, when years later her crystal throbs with heat, and he reappears, with a different name, and no memory of her. She tries to get him to remember her, but he never does, and over the years he dies and gets reincarnated several more times, each time her kyber crystal alerting her to his existence. But one time that she meets him, he finally opens up about a dream that he keeps having, of a beach, and a blinding white light, and holding someone in his arms, and she thinks with a fragile hope that this might be it, might finally be the time that he remembers her…

PSA - Blog changes

For everyone who’s stuck with me through my whiplash-inducing blog changes, you deserve a medal lol

Just some small changes, hopefully to curtail some confusion about what to expect when you come here. This is a personal blog, not a fandom-specific one, even though I tend to post a lot of what I’m currently into. I apologize to any of you who have come here expecting certain content. Even though I list everything I post in my blog description, I’ve added the sentence “THIS IS A MULTI-FANDOM BLOG” just to make sure you’re aware of what you’re getting into.

I feel like I should apologize for my tastes and interests changing, but it’s not something I can help. What I can apologize for then, is misleading anyone who thought they came here for certain content and were disappointed when they saw other stuff. I just want to reiterate here, please feel free to unfollow me if my content is not what you want to see. I promise I won’t be offended, I won’t hunt you down, I won’t hold it against you. It’s your dash, curate it the way you want. I certainly do.

Having said that, I will be moving any Rebelcaptain-related posts to my Rebelcaptain blog @jynandcassianandor, although Rogue One-related posts will remain on this blog. I am not creating any more sideblogs, it’s too much to maintain, so again, if I post anything you’re not interested in please unfollow now.

+Where do you publish your work? AO3 only. I have a FF.n account, but I’ve heard too many stories about people getting their fics taken down for no reason, so I won’t post there.

+What medium/application/etc.? Microsoft Word. It’s the easiest and quickest for me to use.

+Do you collaborate with others? Other than the occasional beta reader when I’m having trouble or getting ideas from people, no. At least, not yet I haven’t. 

+How much editing do you do before you publish? I actually edit as I write. I hear it’s not a very good habit, but I’ve never seen fit to break it, so I still do it. 

+Do you listen to music? Rarely. Most of the time I need the silence. 

+How do you decide what to write about? It isn’t so much me deciding as it is a certain idea that won’t leave me alone until I get it written. 

+When do you write? It usually winds up being on my nights off of work, but I try to get some writing in when I can. 

+How often do you write? I wish it were every day. Unfortunately, my schedule doesn’t allow for that anymore. 

+Do you take requests? Only on one fic. Otherwise, no, since I don’t ever know when I’ll be able to get to them. 

+Is there a genre or type of story you want to write but are hesitant to? There is one that deals with some pretty heavily emotional content that I want to write, but that’s probably why I’m hitting a block with it. The subject matter is pretty intense and I’m finding myself pretty hesitant about delving into it.
