En el 2003, Jeffrey Jones se vio envuelto en un escándalo cuando fue acusado y, posteriormente, condenado por poseer material pornográfico infantil y por haber solicitado a un adolescente que posara para fotografías de contenido sexual.

Como consecuencia, se le impusieron cinco años de libertad condicional, terapia y el registro como delincuente sexual de por vida.

Sin embargo, el exactor enfrentó nuevos problemas legales en 2004 y 2010 al no mantener actualizado su registro como ofensor sexual. En ambas ocasiones, admitió su culpabilidad y fue sentenciado a realizar servicio comunitario y a cumplir más años de libertad condicional

Estos incidentes, sumados a su condena original, marcaron el fin de su ascenso en Hollywood.

Anunciado recentemente, a sequência de Beetlejuice ganha mais um nome de peso. Segundo o The Hollywood Reporter, quem se junta ao elenco é Willem Dafoe.

Além de Willem, o elenco conta com Michael Keaton, Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara e Justin Theroux. Segundo o Deadline, as filmagens devem começar no próximo mês em Londres.

Até o momento não existem maiores informações sobre a produção, mas Jenna viverá a filha de Lydia Deetz, que foi vivida por Winona Ryder no original e que retorna para o mesmo papel na sequência. Já Monica dará vida a esposa de Beetlejuice. Enquanto Michael Keaton e Catherine O'Hara retornam para os papéis originais, de Beetlejuice e de Dellia, mãe de Lydia, Willem será um policial do mundo dos mortos. O roteiro está nas mãos de Alfred Gough e Miles Millar. Já a direção retorna para as mãos de Tim Burton, mesmo diretor do original.

Ao longo dos anos, muito foi idealizado para a sequência, passando na mão de vários roteiristas e com o próprio Tim Burton publicamente demonstrando vontade de tirar o projeto do papel. Em 2022, a Plan B, produtora de Brad Pitt, também demonstrou interesse em produzir a sequência.

Em Beetlejuice, Alec Baldwin e Geena Davis interpretaram um casal de espíritos que contrata o ardiloso Beetlejuice para expulsar a família que acabou de se mudar para a sua antiga casa. O elenco ainda conta com Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones e Winone Ryder, que interpretam os novos moradores e as vítimas das pegadinhas que Beetlejuice faz para tentar expulsa-los da casa. O longa foi dirigido por Tim Burton e arrecadou US$75 milhões nas bilheterias mundiais, além de se tornar um clássico cult, venceu o Oscar de Melhor Cabelo & Maquiagem.

Atualmente, Beetlejuice está disponível na HBO Max e Amazon Prime.

Beetlejuice 2 chega aos cinemas no dia 6 de setembro de 2024.
