I just finished watching the final episode of The Beaker Girls and I’m so emotional. Mike, Tracy, Justine and Peter all in one room again was too much.

OK, so in the last Tracy Beaker book, there is a storyline conclusion thst pissed me off sooooooooo much.

I do give props that Csm is confirmed gay in it and Jackie even gave her a girlfriend! (And how it's never outright said 'Cam is gay and her and Mary are a couple', but it's made very obvious and no one has trouble with it, well Tracy a bit but more cos Mary is a teacher and Tracy has unresolved trauma surrounding teachers, not cos she's a woman).

BUT in the last book (well technically end of the second to last book) we are reintroduced to a now adult Peter Ingham, that kid who trailed after Travy like a lost puppy but she was kind of mean to, but him and Tracy actually get on now.

Through a misunderstanding we are led to assume Peter has come out as gay abd has a male partner, but later it turns out not only is he not gay, but, in a tired old hetronormative trope, he has been in love with Tracy since they were kids and never got over her!

AAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I am SICK of unneccessary compulsory hetronormative romantic sideplots!!!! And of stories if a boy liking a girl she's mean to him but he still loves her, it plays into 'nice guy' shit, I was hoping Peter was gay, I wish he had been and instead of them getting together at thr end, he ends up Tracy's daughter Jess's cool gay uncle, honestly it almost seemed like a fprm of borderline queerbaiting, with a lowkey misogynistic trope and hetronormativity, made me so mad.

Why couldn't he just have been gay!?

#buttercups band au - an au where the buttercups trio are an indie band engaged in a friendly rivalry with a punk rock duo of the perimeter, that is ren and doc (cocreated with fantom)

#third wing au - a life series au set in the universe of "fourth wing", focusing on tango - a first year cadet and a former griffin flier sent as a spy (cocreated with fantom)

[just a heads up - fantom has their hand in all of the above aus, varying from caring enough to reply and validate my ideas (littlewood monster) to thinking up whole side stories (sculkpocalypse). most of them wouldnt exist without them or would be in a less advanced state, so everybody say thank you fantom!]

i don’t accept that this is all we will see of justine littlewood. She was pretty awful here but I actually felt sorry for her. I honestly think deep down she didn’t want to do tracy dirty like that and actually admires her but it transformed into jealousy. she wants the close bond that tracy and jess have that she couldn’t get and I think tracy realises that too. in this essay I will -

I think Tracy and Justine’s relationship if very unique and iconic I must say, they both care for each other and do love each other like sisters, you can tell, Justine sticking up for her and hugging her, even Tracy comforting her and smiling at her. They grew up together they had their good and nice moments like sisters do. Being stuck in a home together all the time. day and night only going out sometimes. They do love each other like sisters. I think personally Justine was protecting Tracy from Shawn Godfrey somehow: maybe in season two which is in the making I think they’ll bond.

You know what? I actually agree with you. I was a little mad about the way that My Mum Tracy Beaker made it seem like Tracy and Justine had just fallen back into their old ways of hating each other, but with some more thought put into it, I can definitely see it as Justine trying to protect Tracy from Shawn. 

In the shows, their relationship is more of a sisterly one -- fighting all the time but being there for each other when the other really needs it. And I can’t wait to see more of them in the second season, because I’m hoping it’s going to follow the second book just as closely as the first one did, so we’ll be seeing a lot more of that sisterly bond coming out. I saw some on set pictures of season two being filmed and I’m so excited now!

1988 saw the creation of Rex Nettleford's Dis Poem resorting to the dub poetry of Mutabaruka. The programme note read:

The NDTC Cuban-Connection continued with the creation of Eduardo Rivero-Walker's Tribute (1995) to music of reggae icons Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff. The programme note read:

Reggae is a music of profound significance to Caribbean peoples. In particular, it is the youth of the Caribbean who see in reggae their reason for living, their happiness and their frustrations. Born in Jamaica, this rhythm is an element of cohesion and cultural identification between the peoples of the English-speaking Caribbean. The most representative author and singer was Bob Marley who is seen as the most prestigious in the Caribbean, Africa and Europe.

NDTC kept abreast with the ever-changing landscape of Jamaican contemporary popular music, which led to the making of Bujurama (1996). This was a natural occurrence for Nettleford, who pioneered works to reggae music from the 70s inspired by Jimmy Cliff (Tribute to Cliff), Bob Marley (Court of Jah) and Toots Hibbert (Backlash). In Bujurama, he revisited his contemporary ‘roots’ being inspired by the conscious lyrics of reggae/dancehall frontliner Buju Banton. The work made use of Banton's “Untold Stories”, “Not An Easy Road” and “Champion". Jamaica Gleaner writer Justin Whyte wrote:

It was not a transformation of the dancehall, instead it was a skillful re-enactment of the beauty there is in our music and carefully contrived movements. Therefore, it was of little wonder that the audience interrupted intermittently with wild applause, suggesting satisfaction and approval.
