Ok so I've briefly touched on this, and I've done some reblogging of some other people's posts about it but I've decided it's time I add my own thoughts on Midoriya using Deku as his hero name.
Personally, I think it's one of Horikoshi's biggest failures in the early part of the series. We get glimpses of Midoriya's mental health being shit throughout the series, and the name Deku and his mistreatment by his peers and even his teachers pre OFA is pretty damn bad.
So, while I do understand what Horikoshi was going for with having Midoriya claim the name Deku as something different, it still feels wrong. Especially when adding in the context of how Uraraka just bulldozed over it being an insult that his freaking bully called him to be awful. And maybe if Bakugo had actually gotten REAL consequences for his actions or moved to 1-B or something, I wouldn't have as big an issue with it. But damn Bakugo has treated Midoriya like crap in every flash back we see. And has been a constant negative presence in Midoriya's life the entire time. And that, along with Bakugo being the one to give him that awful nickname in the first place, drives me crazy. Horikoshi has had so many missed opportunities and made a lot of choices with character development that leave me scratching my head in confusion. And about 90% of those decisions have something to do with Bakugo.
But I'm getting off topic a bit. During the war arc we really see Midoriya spiral and a big part of me actually enjoyed it in some ways because it was the first time we really get to see Midoriya behave in the way that's indicative of how he and heroes have treated by society as a whole. He believes wholeheartedly that he needs to hunt down AFO and Shigaraki alone because that's how All Might has been presented, and he has to live up to that pressure. He fully believes that his life is worthless and that he's only useful if he's doing everything he can to protect others even at the cost of himself. Which all comes back to Deku. I fully believe that Midoriya still feels like as a person he's worthless, and that's why he really chose Deku. Maybe he hoped that he could change the meaning of it now that he has OFA, but I think deep down he believes otherwise. We've seen that throughout the manga and anime. He consistently broke himself when he realized someone more powerful than him or who had a quirk from childhood was in danger. At the USJ, when he tried to attack Shigaraki, who was trying to dust Tsu. When he attacked the Zero pointer during the entrance exam so it wouldn't crush Uraraka. When he launched himself at Shigaraki to protect All Might. When he and Todoroki fought in the sports festival and he irreparably damaged his hand. There are so many instances of this kid letting himself be hurt by others to protect someone else, and he has zero regard for his own life. It's pretty heartbreaking, honestly. It's a big contributor to why I stopped reading the manga at this point. Well, that and Bakugo's deus ex machina, but well, it's bakugo, and I hate him, so that shouldn't surprise anyone who has seen my rants or knows me irl.
But yeah, I both loathe and understand why Midoriya went with Deku as his hero name. That doesn't mean I agree with the decision, but I understand it.

The Dad For One theory being real would have been amazing only because imagine Kudo steals his brother and then Bakugo (who reminds him of Kudo) steals his son 💀

This !!! Also, all that matters is that All Might said HE THINKS Tomura has been saved, HE THINKS Tomura understands Deku's intention like .... seriuously Hori keeps proving me how lazy and not interested he is when he writes Izuku. But when he writes Bakugou and Todoroki family? Wow ... a masterpiece
People be really expecting instant gratification, resolution and conclusion huh?

“I bet on losing dogs” but it’s the League of Villains.
No disrespect to Horikoshi. I genuinely feel like he was just tired and trying to wrap BNHA up. But the ending made no sense and made the entire series seem like it was for nothing.
Whether you love the League or hate them, you have to admit that killing all of them and imprisoning the remaining two is a shitty wrap to each of their stories. Like genuinely, they have actual backgrounds and real goals. I’m not saying he had to please the fans of every character, but killing them off with no resolution? All of them? And hero society didn’t become any less economy based and judgemental.
Between Magne, then Twice, why did they have to keep killing them off one by one? Those character deaths were sad, but the plot could at least carry on. An entire antagonist group was just wiped from the world.
Realistically, none of them are quiet. Especially not Dabi or Tomura. You KNOW that if they were given the chance within Tartarus walls, they would yap everyones ear off on how unfair the world was, and that no matter how hard they worked no change was made whatsoever. Plus, they’d have people there who’d listen to them. Endeavor, a character that I don’t particularly like at all, could finally *actually* atone for 20+ years of abuse. He has #1 hero money that could have kept him alive. Not to mention that Touya wasn’t supposed to live the first time around, but he did. Since Enji’s disabled now he could help Touya get his word out or something. Idk, anything is more than killing them all off.
And Tomura would have Midoriya at his side the entire time. You think Deku would throw him in prison and be done with him? No! He made a connection someone a lot like him, but was never given the chance to become anything else. I feel like the more Tomura would rant to him, the more Deku would want to help him. That was the whole point of not killing him sooner. He wasn’t *supposed* to die. The foreshadowing in previous seasons would have suggested there was more in store for him than death when Nana Shimura tested Deku.
You *know* Deku would’ve helped him, and eventually started a rehab facility or something. Deku’s whole deal is that he can empathize with almost anyone. And he *did*, so why couldn’t we pull more on that?
Like, they do quirk counseling for kids. Think about how many League members didn’t get that? Really think. Enji probably taught Touya himself. Tenko had *just* developed a quirk when he pretty much started his villain arc. if Toga had proper quirk counseling don’t you think they would have A) found out that her quirk would naturally give her a fascination with blood or B) given her alternatives for the natural bloodlust her quirk gave her? I know it’s not their quirks fault for their behavior, but it explains what lead them there. You know, the difference between a sociopath and a psychopath (*cough cough* AFO).
More on that, if a quirk rehab existed beforehand then Twice could’ve gone there after his accident. It would help him cope with being convinced he might be a double, hence saving him from the loneliness that the judgement of society left him in.
Like SPINNER. Society was judgemental over something he couldn’t even control (quirk + racism = quirkism?). All he wanted was a safe world for heteromorphs, leading him to the league. I don’t think he would specifically benefit from quirk rehab, but the point is that he very obviously wanted change for the better and he didnt even get that.
They aren’t saints whatsoever, but I feel like it should’ve been acknowledged that they *did* have goals. I could write a novel on this alone, but I feel like at some point you’ll get tired of hearing me yap 😅

I need more fanfics where class 1-A finds out about Bakugo's bullying and abuse of Midoriya. Realizes how bad it actually was and how badly they all fucked up and Bakugo gets actual God damn consequences and maybe gets his ass beat by someone! Todoroki is my first pick on that front because platonic or not Todoroki is 100% Midoriya's ride or die and if he found out that Bakugo was Midoriya's abuser, there's no way in hell Todoroki wouldn't light his ass on fire immediately no questions asked. Do I also think Midoriya would 100% be upset if class 1-A beat Bakugo's ass? Yes. Does that mean Bakugo shouldn't get his ass beat? Absolutely not. I know why Midoriya would try and defend him and try to lessen whatever punishment he should get, but at the same time fuck that! Is Bakugo a child? Yes. But by 15-16 he's old enough to know better than to do ANY of the things he did in canon. Dude's literally Endeavor 2.0 and should've been removed from 1-A if not UA entirely after the battle trials if not the sports festival.

There's something about Deku in any shot from the new movie that just gets me. He looks so good in them! This is a Deku Slander Free Blog. I will not tolerate anything bad ever said about my precious green haired son!

I've thought about this forever now. Deku's notebooks have such batman vs the justice league contingency plans vibes. If Deku was less idealistic and more paranoid, he'd be perfect for the batfam, with or without a quirk

I thought if people were not going to make it to the final battle for Izuku it was going to be Ochaco, Katsuki, and Shoto because their injuries were absolutely insane and their own personal battles already put them through hell.
But where TF is TENYA IIDA. Did I miss him in the background???

I've been seeing the spoilers for the bnha manga, and at this point, I'm absolutely disgusted with Horikoshi. He treats Midoriya like a joke at best and like his own personal punching bag at worst. It's no wonder Bakugo gets all the attention. He's using Bakugo as a stand-in for himself so he can continue beating Midoriya down. I hate it so much I'm not even willing to watch the series or buy anything official anymore. Horikoshi is a shit writer, and taking away OFA from Midoriya after how hard he's worked to make it his own was awful. That's not even mentioning how badly he's treated other characters, either. I think the dude has an abuse fetish or something because at this point, I can't fathom another reason for him to give the abusers so much attention when their victims are blamed or treated terribly for no good reason.
