Thank you, all of you. This was such a wonderful day and I am genuinely overwhelmed with the amount of love and well wishes I have received today. I’ve been moved to tears, I’ve laughed, and I’ve genuinely had such a nice day. Genuinely, I think, the best day I’ve had in 2020. I just. Fuck. I’ve got such a lovely group of people in my life, and friends on all sides, and I am just so. Fucking. Happy.

tl;dr it’s Naruto with super heroes instead of ninjas with super powers but better with it’s characters

a few generations ago, the first person with powers (or what they call “quirks”) was born. since then 80% of the population now has super powers. with such an oversaturation of powers, becoming a hero or a villain is now a valid career choice and the world has adapted to it

the main story involves a quirk-less fanboy who gains powers thanks to his hero idol, and gets accepted into one of the most prestigious schools in the country. blah blah blah. make new friends. blah blah blah learn to control his new powers (that break his own bones when he uses them) blah blah blah theres a tournament arc because of course there is

what I like about it is that it’s contagiously optimist. the main cast of characters in the same class show no ill will towards eachother or the main character. theres no “i worked hard to get in here and you didnt so I HATE YOU” characters. theres some bully characters but not only are they not obviously pre-villains, theyre adamantly heroes, just jerks for reasons. and everyone even supports them!

even when the main character is the weakest in the class, nobody hates him and they want to see him improve. even his ‘rivals’ are overly optimistic and only want to rival him to improve themselves.

they aren’t just taught how to fight either. the kids take classes on disaster relief, complete with a hero teacher giving them a heart felt speech about how even the most destructive power can save peoples lives. even a lot of the hero agencies in the city do a lot of patrolling and good will work for the city

All Might, the resident Superman expy and the main character’s idol, is pretty much the best version of superman ive ever seen. warm, fatherly and supportive towards young heroes, knows that being a hero isn’t just fighting but being the people’s hero.

So, in Altera, I know that there's a train that helps with quick travel, but are there Pokemon based travel options? Kinda like how there are Corviknight taxis, perhaps there are Lapras ferry's for the lake? How are Pokemon that can be ridden handled, like Rapidash or the larger flying types like Pidgeot? I love all the extra world building you share just as much as Sonder itself 🧡

Pokemon-based travel options are definitely available and largely verified and run through Rangers. Corviknight taxis aren’t around because Corviknight aren’t widely spread enough. Lapras are often available for rent as small ferries across lakes and rivers, as well as out to the island in the bay. If you own a rideable Pokemon, it’s recommended you take them to a class so they can learn more about how to ride safely, what equipment to use, etc.

In rougher parts of the region, many areas have rentable Pokemon that can be used for short-term transportation. They cannot be used in battle, but you do have their Pokeball for a time. Tracking methods and anti-theft technology prevent this from being exploited. For instance, if you don’t have a Pokemon for it, but want to go through the mountains, you might be able to rent a Rhyhorn.

Flying-type Pokemon work much the same way. If you want to fly to a certain place, you often will use your own flying Pokemon or you’ll rent one. They don’t go faster than trains, however, and so it’s mostly for rural areas that are difficult to get to, otherwise, or for Rangers.

Pokemon travel isn’t the most logical way of transportation in most circumstances, unlike in the games, and thus it is a lot less widespread but it is still an option. However, fully evolved Pokemon are definitely a privilege, rather than widespread, and thus it’s largely relegated to “late-game” trainers and Rangers.

This is a difference from the games that I really wanted to delve into, because of the differences in the world. Most people don’t have final stage Pokemon evolutions or Pokemon big enough or strong enough to handle widespread transportation. This is part of what makes Rangers and League Members unique. They aren’t restricted to the usual modes of transportation, the limitations of them - schedules, delays, breakdowns, etc. - that the rest of the population is.

It’s also what makes Rangers so fast to respond when a bunch of other emergency services can’t handle a situation.
