Hi There! Welcome in!
I’m Avery, and ever since I graduated college in the middle of the pandemic there’s been a little hole inside me because I no longer have a captive audience of 20-30 people who have to hear my thoughts, opinions, and theories about whatever we’d read or watched that day.
Then some of my friends started posting doctor who essays and sewing tutorials on tumblr (in 2021?? Which is still wild to me because I haven’t been on here since superwholock was like, the only thing on here) and I realized
I could do that
But not with Doctor Who. Ew. No, with all the weird books I read and shit.
I try to read a lot, but probably average 20-25 books a year. I love vintage fashion (not vintage values!) and might rant about corsets sometime. I also cosplay with said sewing tutorials friend and got really into cosplay photography through that. I probably won’t post it here but who knows. I’ll probably mostly post about the books I’ve read and maybe every now and then something I wrote that made my brain go brr.
So uhh here are some of my favorite things so you can feel aptly prepared for the kinda stuff I’ll talk about on here:
Books:
Follow Me To Ground by Sue Rainsford
We Have Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
Howl’s Moving Castle by Diane Wynne Jones
Podcasts:
Dear Hank & John
The Adventure Zone: Balance
The Bright Sessions
Olive Hill
Limetown
TV: & Movies:
“The Haunting of Hill House” (2018)
“Madoka Magica” (2011)
“Twin Peaks” (1990)
“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (2015)
“The VVitch” (2015) (and A24 Horror in general)
“Emma” (2020)

Quote
Those that are rich in words, in words discover/ That they are poor in that which makes a lover.
Tom Kettle reciting a poem in The Ferryman
This line of the poem that Tom Kettle recites in the play immediately made me stop reading and go straight for my laptop because it just seemed so unusual to me. Many of times it is said that the key to a healthy relationship -and in the case of a lover we would be talking about a romantic relationship - is communication; so wouldn’t one rich in words be a good lover because they could profess their love where others struggle to? I mean at least this is what I initially thought when reading this quote. But maybe, the reason why the person rich in words is a poor lover is because they are too much in their own heads, whereas the lover lives and acts from a more emotional place, the heart. Ha, who knows, right?! But it’s an interesting idea to think about.

What To Do, What To Do Pt. 2 (more developed research idea)
A few weeks have passed since I last wrote about what I may be interested in researching for my colloquium paper and I think I have finally decided on one. For my research project, I think I will be focusing on the inclusion of writing in museums, such as poems, quotes, etc. The questions that I would try an answer are: 1. How is writing being defined once placed in a museum? 2. How can writing be a considered a work of art? 3. What is the significance of the writing or what role does it take on once it is in a museum or art exhibition?
I decided on this because I think it will be a great way to get me out and into the city even more, while also getting to learn and experience so many new places. I have also never really noticed this being done in the states and is interesting to see that being done here. I love writing and it is a massive part of who I am as an individual. I don't know where I'd be without my pen and paper, so I think this is why this topic catches my attention. I just feel that by placing writing or quotes in a museum/exhibition the definition of what writing/literature is altered and rewritten. I am curious to know what is trying to be said in doing this. I don't think this is a topic in which I can find a definite right or wrong answer, but I also think that's what makes it so great.

Drunkenly participating in the Tumblsphere. Also, coining the phrase "Tumblsphere," as far as I know.

I'm up at 8:41 am writing an essay on the lexical and etymological origins of the word "coffee", while these furry shits take a nap.
