Hi, I haven’t been eating so healthy lately so i was wondering if you have any tips on getting back on track with eating healthy? And do you have some tips on healthy recipes that are easy too make(and maybe even quick)? :)

Hey sweetheart, sure I’d love to give you some ideas!

**Firstly though I am not a healthcare professional and although I have studied nutrition in the past and plan to study it further in university eventually, I am not a professional so would definitely recommend seeing a doctor or nutritionist for any specialist needs**

I’m not sure what “healthy” means to you as it’s different for everyone and will change depending on what you’re trying to achieve (fat loss/gain, muscle gain, if you train regularly or not at all etc) But best advice I can give you about getting back on track is just to do it straight away, stop saying “tomorrow”

I was struggling with motivation not long ago so I decided to make it into a challenge for myself, how colourful can i make every meal? How many veggies/fruits can I fit into each meal? etc. It was fun and easy and motivated me to add veggies/salad/fruit to my daily diet and pretty soon I was actually craving good food.

I cleaned out my fridge and pantry and put everything healthy within eye sight, anything not so healthy at the very back where I couldn’t see it, now if I’m hungry and open my fridge, instead of reaching for junk I’ll reach for an apple or carrot sticks or nuts and my cravings go away much quicker. Remember everything in moderation so if you must have something not so great for you then do it, just don’t do it too often :)

For quick and easy recipes I would suggest making it colourful- for example this was a chickpea dinner I made not too long ago, I just added chickpeas and steamed veggies into a small pot, heated it up and added a tiny bit of sweet soy sauce, roasted some veggies and voila! Easy healthy dinner and it’s easy to change if you want to add meat to it or you can keep it vegan depending on your preference. It only took about half an hour to roast veggies and 5 minutes to warm up chick peas and veggies in a pot.

Don’t skip meals, even if you’re feeling lazy try to eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and healthy snacks through out the day. If I get too lazy I’ll replace one of the main meals for a protein shake (if i’m working early or late and don’t have time to sit down for a meal) and for healthy snacks my go to is nuts, seeds, carrot sticks with hummus, cucumber with a teeny bit of salt on it (I have low blood pressure and have been told by my doctor to add more salt, sorry if it’s weird) fruit, crackers, leftovers from my meal prep etc. Try your best to avoid processed foods and cook what you can from scratch-if you don’t know what’s in it or what the ingredients are-don’t eat it.

Another thing to stay on track which might help you is to plan out your daily or weekly meals, I like to meal prep most of my meals or at least plan out the recipes I’ll be cooking for the week so it keeps me focused and its a reminder to eat well, you can buy weekly meal planners at Kmart, Target, KikiK and online.

To make things cheaper I usually am a regular visitor to my local fruit and veggie market, buying in bulk makes things cheaper in the long run also.

I will be continuously posting recipes but here’s a few that I’ve posted before both my own and other’s I’ve loved

And oh, before I forgot, my mom told me these.

16. When my mom.was pregnant of me, kikiks (birds that were believed to be a monster and would prey on pregnant women) would follow my mother around and would get wild, trynna get to her.

17. When I was a baby and was sleeping with my mom, she woke up in the middle of night and said that I wasn't there on the bed with her. She got out of the bed and looked for me, only to find me under the bed. In the same position as I was in. Only I was sleeping on the floor, not on the bed. She wondered how I got under the bed when our bed had mosquito net than we tuck under the foam of our bed and I wouldn't be able to get out by myself as I was still an infant. But I did anyways. My mother said it was like I went through the bed.

18. My mother was a busy woman being a teacher/principal. So she had to hire a baby sitter to look for me since my dad was away at that time cos he was working. One day, she went to get me from my baby sitter and heard a kikik, she looked out of the house, only to find my babysitter's brother walking around. She asked my babysitter if her brother happened to have a blood of the aswang (believed to be a monster here that also feeds o humans, mostly babies). My babysitter said yes. Because their grandma is also an aswang. She told my mother not to worry for it is only her brother who got it and not her. Just imagine if she had to do something and she needs to leave me with her brother.

Her: I need to do something. Look out for her for me, will you?

Her bro: Uh... Sure. No problem.

Her: AND DON'T EAT HER!

Him already halfway from biting me: What about a bite?

Her: NO! I WILL KILL YOU!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA so cute :)))))

I was supposed to sleep early last night but the damn ghosts started wanting attention.

Siesta Vivid Dream

Siang ini aku tertidur (selalu) setelah melahap semua menu makan siang buatan mama. Tidur siang kali ini membuahkan mimpi.Mimpi yang sangat jelas diingatanku. Pendapat beberapa ahli juga menyatakan bahwa mimpi disiang hari memang terasa lebih jelas dan seolah kita berada didunia nyata. Aku jarang bermimpi dan ketika bermimpi pun aku tak pernah berniat untuk menuliskannya kembali. Tetapi mimpi ini sangat indah, ini seperti fantasi fantasi yang selalu ingin kurasakan kemudian bergabung menjadi satu. Aku bermimpi telah dijodohkan bersama lelaki berdarah Melayu dan Bangsawan. Aku tak tahu betul apakah keluarganya berdarah biru atau tidak. Tetapi situasi, lokasi dan busana menunjukkan bahwa mereka adalah keluarga terpandang. Mimpi berawal dimana aku sampai disebuah rumah adat, besar dan kental dengan nuansa melayu . Dari luar terlihat ada kolam ikan berair mancur ciri khas keluarga Melayu. Kemudian aku bisa melihat dekorasi pernikahan yg telah disiapkan oleh keluarga mereka. Aku masuk ke dalam melalui samping rumah tersebut. Kemudian aku masuk melalui gapura sembari melewati pria pria paruh baya yang menggunakan baju adat melayu. Kalian ingat baju sutra atau satin berwarna dan tak lupa songket ala Melayu? Begitupula dengan peci dan kepulan asap dari rokok yang mereka hembuskam. Seperti itulah rupa bapak bapak yang kulewati di gapura itu. Aku menganggap mereka adalah tetua tetua keluarga calon suami ku.

Kemudian aku masuk lebih dalam lagi, aku menerobos masuk diantara kain kain dekorasi yang menjuntai. Setelah melewatinya, mata ku langsung tertuju pada sebuah pondok kecil di sisi kiri mataku. Semacam cakruk kayu jati yang hanya bisa diduduki oleh 3-4 orang. Dibagian atas pondok, lagi lagi terlihat dekorasi bernuansa melayu yang begitu kental. Didepan kain tule berkilau membentuk tirai seakan fungsinya untuk menyambut siapapun yang hendak duduk disitu. Satu bantal duduk diletakkan menghadap ke 2 bantal duduk yang berapa didepannya. Karpet indah menyempurnakan keberadaan bantal duduk tersebut. Aahh... Ini pasti tempat untuk ijab qabul dalam hatiku. Begitu indah. Aku mengagumi orang yang menghias pondok ini, tempat paling sakral dalam pernikahan. Entah kenapa aku sampai bisa membayangkan gambaran diriku dan calon suamiku saat melakukan ijab qabul. Tentu dari sudut pandang dimana aku melihat pondok tersebut. Dari kejauhan. Aku begitu terpana melihay pondok tersebut, beberapa orang yang lalu lalang mungkin heran sendiri melihatku tersenyum senyum. Seketika aku merasakan debar saat membayangkan suasana ijab qabul kelak. Aneh.

"Chaiyumi!", panggilan dengan suara bulat dari seorang pria mengejutkan ku. Suara panggilannya, seperti adegan raja menyambut tamunya yang hadir. Yaa, dengan suara yang lantang dan dibarengi tawa kecil. Ia memanggilku dari kejauhan. Seketika langsung kutemukan orang yang memanggil namaku. Ia adalah pria yang tinggi tegap dengan dada yang bidang. Ia berpakaian sangat bagus. Wibawa dan kegagahan nya begitu terlihat dengan busana yang ia kenakan. Baju yang ia kenakan bernuansa ksatria berwarna hitam pekat dengan selempang merah yang jatuh dari bahunya. Songket melayu juga melingkar di pinggulnya. Namun tak sama dengan kebanyakan orang yang menggunakan warna cerah pada songket, ia menggunakan songket berwarna hitam kilau. Rambut klimisnya juga menawan. Memperkuat kesan gagah yang tadi kusebutkan. Oh yaa.. Ternyata dia adalah saudara sulung calon suamiku. Indeed, anak pertama dalam keluarga memang selalu terlihat aura karismatiknya.

Aku berjalan mengarah padanya. Kemudian aku dapat melihat bahwa ia berkumpul dengan adik adiknya yang lain. Kecuali calon suamiku. "Selamat datang, Adik Chaiyumi. Sudah berapa lama engkau berdiri disana? Ini, salamlah saudara saudara dari calon suamimu.", sambutnya dengan hangat. Sontak langsung kujabat tangan mereka. Yang ku ingat, hanya ada 3 bersaudara disitu. Abang tertuanya, abang keduanya yang berpakaian seperti ustadz dengan baju gamis dan sorban, oh tak lupa pula jenggotnya yang tipis, selain itu juga ada adik bungsunya yang begitu riang dan saaangat mirip Alvin, anaknya ustadz arifin. Aku ingat, aku menjabat tangan mereka dengan kedua tanganku yang tertutup dilapisi jilbab. Karena aku takut mereka tak ingin menyentuh tangan wanita. Namun mereka bertiga menjabatku seperti biasa, menyentuh tangan ku yang menyelip lewat jilbab. Tanpa rasa takut atau enggan. Begitu pula saudara ipar ke-2 yang berpenampilan alim. Perasaan ku lumayan aneh waktu itu. "Yasudah, pergilah kesana. Orang tua sedang berkumpul disana. Sapalah beberapa dari mereka. Jangan berlama lama dengan ipar ipar lelaki", perintahnya ipar sulung. Aku begitu menghormatinya dalam mimpi ini jadi aku dengan senang hati menurut dan pergi ke ruangan yang ia tunjuk. Didalam sebuah lorong. Lokasi pernikahan ku entah kenapa mirip sekali dengan rumah bernuansa padang. Semacam rumah panggung dengan kayu tebal yang sedikit berwarna gelap. Banyak pintu pintu, pilar kayu yang berbaris, dan lorong lorong dengan pencahayaan yang begitu hangat.

Aku menyusuri sebuah lorong buntu yang berujung sebuah pintu. Disitulah orang tua kami berada katanya. Di lorong dengan lampu kuning itu, berjajar lukisan lukisan dan beberapa jendela kayu terbuka yang menyejukkan udara disekitar. Aku begitu gugup dalam perjalanan menuju ruangan tersebut. Terfikir oleh ku, pasti ayah dan ibu calon suamiku ada diruangan itu. Ayah ibu ku juga! Tante nya juga! Paman juga! Sepupu sepupu nya juga! Oh tidak, aku semakin gugup setiap langkah. Pikiranku bercabang, beranting, berdaun, berbuahh! Tapi aku belum ceritakan ke kalian, aku hadir ke pernikahan ini bersama seseorang. Wanita kecil yang tak jelas dalam ingatan ku. Ia terlihat mungkin dan tak berjilbab. Ia selalu menemani ku sejak turun dari mobil, bertemu dengan abang ipar, hingga didalam lorong ini. Namun aku baru menyadari keberadaannya ketika berjalan dilorong ini. Jika kalian bayangkan, mungkin sedikit aneh. Tapi.. Dia lah yang meredakan gugup ku kelak. Lets give her a name so we can call her easily on the next story. Ran. Akhirnya aku masuk kedalam ruangan itu. Yap, sesuai dugaan. Seluruh sanak keluarganya ada disana. Aku dihujam tatapan mereka yang tertuju padaku. But Ran, she cheered me up and make me brave enough to keep on. Sedikit gemetaran tapi tetap aku berjalan menghampiri mereka dan melakukan sungkem satu persatu. Tidak seperti ketakutanku. Suasana disana begitu hangat. Mereka begitu senang bertemu dengan ku. Canda tawa mereka meluluhkan hatiku yang kaku saat itu. Pelukan dan kecupan geram mereka untukku terasa sangat menyenangkan. Tak henti hentinya mereka mencubit dan mengelus pipiku. Aku tak tahu sudah seberapa merah pipi ini. Mata ibunya selalu berkaca kaca, senyumnya yang tak pernah lepas selagi memandang diriku, calon menantunya. They treated me like their own daughter, they welcomes me so well and i loooveee their sense of humour with a nasty old jokes. Terutama tantenya or mak ciknya or else, i remember it so clearly! Dia menggodaku dengan candaan tentang malam pertama. Kami terkikik-kikik dengan cakapnya yang blak blakan. I just fall into deep to this new family. Ditengah tawa, ibunya, calon mertua ku menghampiri dan mencuri ku dari kerumunan tante tante. Ia menyuruhku pergi bersiap siap dikamar pengantin. Aku pun pergi dan pamit kepada tante tantenya karna telah meninggalkan pembicaraan.

Aku menuju sebuah bilik yang tak jauh dari bilik keluarga tadi. Disanalah katanya aku akan berdandan bak pengantin. Sama seperti saat menuju bilik keluarga tadi, hati ku tak kalah berdebar. Aku terus saja terbayang seperti apa gaun pernikahan ku, se-menor apa nanti riasannya, bagaimana kalau calon suami ku tidak mengenaliku nanti. Tunggu….. Ada yang aneh. Sungguh ini aneh. Aku bergegas menarik tangan Ran dan lari kedalam bilik. Saking paniknya, aku bahkan tak menggubris betapa indahnya dekorasi kamar pengantinku. Ranjang berbalut satin emas dan kelambu hijau yang digerai membentuk tirai. Tak lagi ku terpana akan eloknya kamar pengantin karena keanehan yang baru saja kusadari ini.

Aku... Aku... Aku tak tahu siapa calon suamiku. Aku tak kenal siapa dia. Pekerjaannya. Umurnya. Wajahnya. Bahkan namanya sekalipun! Dan..dan bagaimana kami bisa bertemu. Ohhh raannn, tak mungkin saja aku menikahi orang yang bahkan tidak pernah kulihat wajahnya! Aku tak ingat sedikitpun rupanyaa, sehelai rambutnya saja aku tak pernah tahu. Aku terduduk lemas di kasur itu. Raan kemudia menenangkanku dan mengajakku untuk mencari sosok calon suamiku. Dengan hati resah, aku menurutinya menjelahah seisi rumah itu. Entah ruangan mana saja ku jajahi demi mencari sosok pengantin priaku. Hingga kami pada tujuan paling terakhir, aku sampai kepada titik penyerahan, "Jika disinipun tak bertemu dengan dia. Marilah kita pulang Ran, mungkin aku salah datang ke pernikahan orang. Yang dianggap menantu oleh Ibunya tadi, mungkin bukan aku juga." , kesah ku.

Tepat di lokasi pencarian terakhir, di halaman belakang dengan lorong bertangga, aku melihat seseorang.. Kuturuni ketiga anak tangga lorong itu, melangkah lurus mengikuti dermaga kayu yang menuju danau dengan cahaya remang remang. Mataku juga ikut menyadari bahwasannya ada gazebo lingkar diujung dermaga itu. Seperti tempat untuk menikmati cahaya bulan. Debar jantungku lebih kuat dari biasanya. Jauh lebih kuat dibanding beberapa situasi menegangkan sebelumnya. Sosok yang kulihat diujung dermaga itu seperti memiliki cahaya yang hanya dapat kulihat sendiri. Ia juga berjalan ke arahku. Sedikit terburu buru seperti ia sedang bersemangat ingin menemui sesorang terlihat dari langkah kakinya yang lebar dan garis senyumnya serta binar matanya. Adegan ini berjalan seperti slow-motion. Aku dapat menikmati setiap gerak geriknya. Aku memandanginya sekali lagi, ia sedang menatap arloji ditangan kanannya sembari mengancing lengan bajunya. Yaa, ia mengenakan baju pernikahan yang berwarna cerah dengan songket berkilau. Aku tak begitu ingat warnanya, tapi ia menggunakan kombinasi kedua warna yang sama cerahnya.

Ia berjalan melewatiku. Perlahan demi perlahan. Aku pun mencoba fokus untuk melihat wajahnya lebih dekat. Tapi yang kulihat hanya gambaran kabur sampai ia berjalan melewatiku. Aku terus menoleh, mencoba dengan keras untuk melihat hingga yang kulihat hanyalah bagian belakang tubuhnya. Yang aku ingat adalah tengkuk nya yang sedikit tertutup oleh rambut coklat dan juga kulit putihnya. Serta punggung yang sedikit lebar. Adegan di dermaga itu sekejap hitam memudar. Aku tak melihat adanya lanjutan dari cerita ini.

Hingga kemudian.. Muncullah perlahan sebuah adegan dalam mimpiku ketika aku sedang berada disebuah, entahlah, mungkin danau atau laut. Aku merasakan hangat disisi kepalaku seperti aku sedang bersandar pada sesuatu. Aku menengadah, mencoba melihat keatas kepalaku. Lalu pandangan mataku menangkap sebuah dagu manusia mendekat dahiku. Seseorang mengecup keningku dan sedikit menyentuh kain hijabku. Lagi lagi, aku tak dapat melihat sosoknya. Tapi, benakku berkata... Manusia itu adalah suamiku.

If it helps at all, there's already a queer clothing creator on here who makes really good pride themed clothing, and takes commissions - @vaspider

I've bought tshirts from them before and backed their pride pins campaign and everything has been really good quality and well designed. They're an independent creator too, like Maya, and go out of their way to source ethically made clothing.

If you're after specifically Mayas style then pls feel free to ignore this, but I thought it might be worth mentioning just in case x

Sorry, I meant like enamel pins of characters that represent different parts of the community? Like trans and bi and gay etc Or like notebooks with patterns on them? Same idea as above but like a pattern instead? But it's totally cool if you don't want too, it was just an idea ❤️❤️❤️

oh haha, i was really confused because you said “designs” i thought you meant like the patterns i’d already drawn and i was like “gay versions?? of things i already made? but i’m queer… so inherently so is everything i make…. i guess….”

anyway as for specific pride gear/wear/merch, i’m not sure! when i make new patterns/art/etc it’s either something that i suddenly got like a bolt of inspiration for or something i’ve been ruminating on for a few months. i can’t really make any promises about what i will or won’t draw in the future, when i put too much pressure on myself to design a certain thing i usually get frustrated and it turns out bad. it’s part of why i stopped taking client work and why i decided, if possible, that i didn’t ever want to work for a company if i could help it. to be honest i sometimes envy people who design better under pressure, but it just doesn’t work for me. i also (and i know this is a little contentious) have mixed feelings about a lot of pride flag colors. i think they work in some ways but many of them are not color schemes that i like to work with (the pan flag and trans flags are my favorite aesthetically).

i do have a design in mind for a pride button up shirt but progress towards making button ups isn’t going as quickly as we expected/wanted so i have no idea what the timeline on that is anymore.
