I love all this; I just wanna add that I also find it interesting that, although it’s not in the same scene and from a different pov (Kunikida’s), Jouno earlier in the episode is depicted with the same background as Dazai here:

It’s white with the same cross hatching texture encroaching on the corners, but it’s darker/more prominent in Jouno’s visual than Dazai’s. His shadow is also in the same position as Dazai’s, on the right. We know that Jouno used to be an executive in some sort of unknown criminal organization, just like Dazai was, and he has similarly sadistic tendencies as how Dazai used to in the mafia. These backgrounds in the anime probably aren’t meant to be taken super seriously (although... who knows how much the anime studio actually knows?), but I’ve always wondered a lot about all the possibly intentional similarities between these two with what little we know about and see of Jouno (especially with him being the one to arrest Dazai), and this seems to back up that idea, with Jouno just being more corrupted/less pure than Dazai. I also just like the thought that all three of these are meant to be the same background/texture, but the amount of black in them shows how corrupt that character is, with Fyodor’s obviously being pitch black.

this is So Much

1. their shadows being the same but going to different sides. specifically, the sides we see them positioned in in the prison scenes (fyodor to the left, dazai to the right)

2. fyodor being in an unnatural color for a human, while dazai just looks like himself. in atsushi’s mind, fyodor is this creature beyond humanity, something not like him. his dialogue - calling fyodor a monster - even backs that up. meanwhile, dazai is the man who gave him a home and a new family to belong to. he doesn’t doubt dazai’s humanity, and so he looks up to him.

2a. notice that fyodor’s shade of blue is very similar to the shade of blue the decay of angels is represented in in the op’s face frames, rather than the blue used for the ada’s abilities

3. the colors of the backgrounds also play a part in that. they’re actually the colors of their abilities, i’m pretty sure (tho no longer human tends to appear more blue-ish in tint at times).

3a. red could very easily be a color to instill fear in atsushi, as the color of rashoumon, as well as. well. blood. basically, it is a color of danger in general, but especially to him.

3b. white, a color of purity, neutrality - in a situation of everyone being against you, a color to indicate safety. alternatively: a symbol of objectivity, which atsushi is looking for in order to make a decision. …and another option: white is atsushi’s color. him seeing dazai standing surrounded by it in his mind is a sign of his trust in dazai and the impact dazai has on his psyche

4. as for the actual shapes in the background, my only thoughts are about fyodor’s red lines looking either like cuts - fits how violent his plans are - or like red string you use on conspiracy boards - works with him being the brain behind the plan, and tying the conspiracy to the detective agency

5. dazai’s pose is the same one he held when he first introduced himself to atsushi. i take it this is how he’s cemented in his mind. i don’t really have an idea for fyodor’s pose, but he kinda looks like he’s being crucified, which i wouldn’t put past him honestly.

5a. fyodor’s also standing with his back turned, highlighting the alienation atsushi feels from him, while dazai is facing him (but, not fully. imo both to fit that original pose^ but could also be a nod to his current separation from the agency)

Look at these stickers my brain is literally so huge. God. I love them so much.

I hadn't tried to do a sticker sheet at home before because I knew it would be difficult, and I was right! Getting the cut lines to line up with the print was super hard and there were many failed attempts, but it was so worth it I'm so happy with them!!!

It took a matter of months to finish this drawing. (/j, it only took. 2 weeks? I think? maybe a little less,but that's an approximate)

It's been a while since I made a digital drawing. So far between April and now I have focused more on traditional drawings with digital coloring. These are (mostly) cool to do,but it's nice to go back to full digital every now and then. This is one of the cases where the original idea and the final result don't differ that much from each other,but there was still a certain evolution from when I conceived the drawing and how I ended up doing it. The Main Thing of the original idea is still here,I just expanded it a little.

Also,the lyrics at the beginning are from "Tune Into The Madness" by The Stupendium and Dan Bull. Great song,and one that I was listening to a lot at the time I was reading the book (and much earlier too). Because,you know. Mix of horror and TV. It made sense. (And yes,I know this song is about a totally different game,and the TV context in both stories are very different (as far as I remember, it's been a while since I played LN2) but I thought the lyrics could match the drawing anyway + it's my chance to recommend peak, so yeah) Listen to the song, it's very good! (The video do contains flashing images and lights tho,so viewer discretions is adviced)

I've been reading the emesis blue screenplay whenever I have a bit of free time, and it's so interesting to see the small changes they've made to some scenes.

But also, the knowledge that Fritz was supposed to have visions of being mistreated in prison in that one scene when he has a panic attack at scout's house makes me go hhhhhh

Ya know, I’m looking at Simon’s hair right now and I’ve just realized that I have absolutely no idea when or why I started drawing him with more three-pieced bangs rather than the original straight cut ones lol.

He even has them like that in the manual doodles too. (Shout out to the shadows in this doodle making part of his hair look like it has raccoon stripes)

I’m thinking I probably saw how his hair angles towards one side and exaggerated it exponentially over time. But regardless, it realllyyyy ended up wildly different 💀💀💀.

I’ve been having a bit of an art crisis about it because while I think how I draw his hair right now is fun, sometimes it ends up so complicated and exaggerated that I can’t tell what to even do with it at most angles. Like it just kinda ends up this absolute mess of sharp lines and augh idk.

But at the same time I also have this really weird thing when I’m drawing characters where if for some reason I’ve drawn a character differently than before sometimes it’ll like not register to me as the same character and then feel super uncanny??? If that makes sense??? It’s funnily enough like the only reason why I don’t draw or post much art of Richter cause whenever I draw him it always just doesn’t look like him to me in the face especially idk it’s weird 💀💀💀

I tried to make is hair a bit more similar to the original, and the first one is nice but something feels kinda off about it to me, and the second one I combined aspects of how I usually draw him, but now he’s starting to look way more like Leon than intended so uhhhh idk, I’ll figure it out tho d(- - ;)
