If you ignore them talking about whether they'd eat each others eggs if humans laid them, BOLAS was always a fucking terrifying team.

The whole team is just abandoned experiments, battle strategists and people hanging onto sanity by a small fucking thread.

The team is full of ex convicts, ex war criminals, and plenty of people with a perchant for using massive explosions to make a point.

Even those without good pvp or general minecraft knowledge make up for it easily with sheer bloody-minded persistence and willingness to die for those they are loyal to.

And in the team are some of the most cunning on the island; infiltrators, detectives, murderers, generals, presidents, secret society leaders, conspirators, anarchists

Add onto that the rage of grieving parents...

The other teams should always have been afraid of Team Bolas Rojas.

sorry for speaking my truth it will happen again. i think my main issue with valax’s redemption arc is literally just that there’s never a moment where the mc gets to actually talk to her about what she did—there’s not really a cathartic conversation, so valax and mc moving past what she did to them feels less like forgiveness and redemption and more like an agreement to ignore the elephant in the room

like sure we got to talk about our trauma (in chapter 17 of 20. lol. lmao, even) to the party, but valax wasn’t present for that?? and like, sure, she says once that she is sorry “for the pain she caused [them]”, but there’s a difference Tew Me between “sorry for hurting you ig ✌️😗” and actually being like “yeah, i abducted you and forced you into a magically induced coma and stole your blood and robbed you of a full year of your life and repeatedly tried to murder you, to say nothing of the grief i caused your loved ones. i did all that shit and i’m sorry for it and deeply regret it, and i acknowledge that you don’t owe me forgiveness, but i will spend the rest of my life working to build a better world for my people instead of being my mother’s pawn”, and a difference between “my mother is unhappy with me for saving you :(” and actually like, giving the mc space to talk about the impact of her actions towards them. like girl you are not getting out of this shit with one sentence’s worth of apology and a sex scene lmfao!!!

during the first half or so of the book the focus for mc is not falling the fuck apart bc they have a friend group to tentatively piece together and they’re averse to showing fear in front of valax, so they’re repressing all their trauma—and by the time valax joins the party, the narrative has gone full Valax Cool And Good mode, and fully allows you to flirt with her and tease her and generally stops taking her seriously as an antagonist. which would be all fine and good if we had actually at any point gotten to be like, “hey, you abducting me and keeping me in a magically induced coma and stealing my blood and trying to kill me has actually caused me a lot of lasting fear and pain,” followed by some set of choices wrt forgiving or not forgiving her for all that in light of the revelation that she did all that shit bc her mom tortured and brainwashed her

Is Étoiles a bad leader?

No. If you just wanted to know that, my answer is no. You don't have to read the rest.

So in my completely impartial and not at all biased opinion, I'm going to explain why we are actually lucky to have him as a leader. (it will probably poorly age)

But first yes, this question does not come out of nowhere. This first day was hell for the Green Team and their chat (at least Étoiles' chat). I was watching his stream before stopping before the “teamwork” part. If it had been later, I wouldn't have watched the VOD. I literally put the last stream in accelerated, because it wasn't pleasant to watch and Étoiles was clearly not having a good time. It ruined my good mood and I abandoned the stream on the 2nd day because I wasn't in a state to enjoy it, even though it seemed to be exactly like the solo part of Étoiles during the 1st day, but vocally with the Blue Team, so without the stress of teamwork.

I'm not saying that Étoiles is perfect. It is obvious that he was not elected for his leadership abilities, but because he is the strongest (and he is green). He is kind, doesn't like to impose himself, speaks softly and is an introvert whose social battery runs out quickly (I'm an introvert myself and let me tell you it goes down very quickly in stressful/in unusual company/unpleasant situations). It also often happened that the other players talked over him (except Fit, no? It seemed to annoy him)

But I attribute the majority of their difficulty to two points:

Lack of luck A) Decisions which are good on paper but the circumstances of the event make them bad

It's a survival game. Taking your time to prepare is super important if it's possible. It's literally what allows you to survive properly after that. The Green Team farmed items, obtained and enchanted armors and weapons, collected food, made sure everyone had what they needed, created a well-hidden base... They then left as a group because it is more cautious and stronger... The problem is that not everyone plays like that. The other teams were much weaker (at this moment) so the fights weren't tense at all, they got lost very often due to their numbers, the majority of interactions among teams took place while they were preparing so they arrived too late for that ...

B) Lack of balance

The Green Ninjas are way too strong. There is Étoiles, the strongest on the server who is used to this type of game, Fit, who is also used to this type of game but with even more experience, Roeir who is much stronger than he looks like… In comparison, the Red Team doesn't have half its team and those remaining are mostly lore players, not pvp or survival. What would it have cost to take Étoiles or Fit and trade him for a red player who never comes? There would have been fewer calm and experienced people among the Greens but a penalty is not a problem at this stage. Etoiles were just complaining that they were too strong and that it wasn't fun.

(And really, at least the Reds are with people they're used to being around (the Twitch Rivals members are all there except Etoiles) and they're the crowd's favorites. The Green Team is either people who know their stuff and are quite solitary (Fit and Etoiles) or don't come in general (Kameto), or won't come much anymore because it's not their type of game (Antoine and Ironmouse). So it's less fun to watch. Imbalance is not just in the difference in strength.)

C) Languages

It's like that for everyone but on the Green Team, only Fit is a Native English Speaker, the language that everyone uses. Finding words is complicated, understanding others is complicated, and all that, added to the stress, made the situation even more difficult than necessary.

Hell is other people A) It's stressful

The players were teleported to an unknown island completely run by a person who hates them and wants to make them suffer, without their stuff, with one less heart line, to save their children, taking into account that an (unknown) team is corrupted and its defeat means the death of some eggs. Survival games aren't for everyone either, so some really fall completely short. Game or not, it's a stressful situation. And humans don't perform well under stress, and that makes us more aggressive and difficult to get along with. For teamwork, it's a real obstacle.

B) These players do not meet often

Apart from a few exceptions, the members of the Green Team do not often hang out together. They get along well but are usually with other people. Obviously, the bonds are less strong, and the knowledge to understand and manage others is lesser.

C) It's the 1st day

The first day of an inherently stressful and frustrating event, where team members do not necessarily know each other well. Obviously it's a disaster. We rarely perform really good the first time. At least the Greens didn't kill each other or go crazy.

But honestly, we judge the Greens on their teamwork because they were the only ones to do it. The Blues were working, but mostly on their own, the Reds acting as a team but they did not really "work".

But why are we lucky to have Étoiles as a leader? Because he's the nicest. He wants to play fair. He apologizes after killing someone, didn't want to kill Tina because the fight was way too unfair, asked his team not to burn other people's stuff because it's really annoying. This team is the strongest on the easy server if they try. Étoiles almost won on the 2nd day while being all alone. He would have succeeded if Elquackity hadn't messed up (chances are it was done on purpose to boost the morale of the Red Team). Roier wants blood, so does Fit. Yet Étoiles managed to keep them calm enough to farm and maintain some morals. If he decided to be completely wild, it wouldn't be a pretty sight.

The Reds went completely crazy from day 1, while the Greens had enough preparations for a solid foundation when they reconnect. The Bolas might be the most fun to follow, but if you were stuck on the island, which team would you prefer? The crazy cannibals who eat each other or the strongest who help each other even if it’s boring?

I wanna write a thousand essays on today about every team, but I feel like Bolas?? egg base and how they played today showcases their team very fucking well

First, the base was insane. If you didnt watch their streams recently, they weren’t 100% confident in their base. It wasnt as complete as they wanted it to be. It was half done and rushed at the last second.

But yet it was the most confusing and efficient base. Etoiles was mining at the base for like 15 mins, screaming about how he is confused on where the fuck the egg is. Hell, everyone including team Bolas hated the base because it was just awful to go through. And yet the other teams nearly found it like 4 times.

I feel like that Bolas in a whole. They are unpredictable and confusing. One of them says they dont wanna harm any farms yet another later on destroys a farm. Someone will say they are dirt poor while the other will say they are incredibly rich. They will light themselves on fire just to make sure you dont get want you want.

And yet they are careful with covering their tracks. They have so many different layers to their base to the point the other members are confused on what is what. They make sure everyone thinks they live on their old island. But yet they are prepared when someone finds their base and they have to move

Now going to how they all acted today holy shit

Foolish and Philza being sneaky rats and constantly climbing into Greens egg base. Foolish at one point was dead quiet as everyone around him was searching for him. Phil paragliding over and over again and just trying to hit them off their base.

Baghera being the agent of Chaos and fucking chasing people down with her chainsaw, having the time of her life. It was a terrifying image, but also an insane strat because he was destroying peoples armor. I remember Etoiles and Forever yelling about it being like what the fuck??

Charlie coming in last minute and doing what he can and just being himself. Chasing people down, only for them to one shot him. Just being in peoples way so they dont find the egg.

Cellbit being bloodthirsty and going for people, but hesitant when he saw Roier. He only hit when Roier hit him. Then constantly making sure no one saw the egg base and giving commands when things were getting scary

Jaiden helping out and kicking ass. Jaiden being in peoples ways so they dont spend more time at the egg base. Also just getting into fights as much as she can.

Who is to say if Phil killing the Egg statue is going to make a difference or not because we are just as blind as everyone else. We can make up as many theories at as we want, but you cant deny that team Bolas with the amazing help from team Soulfire deserve that win and that Cellbit and Foolish did an amazing job on the egg base.

something that i've been thinking about a lot since the egg event in purgatory is that i firmly disagree when people say that fate of the whole thing was sealed when soulfire's egg was removed, because for me that was locked and loaded on the first couple days on egg island.

bolas has absolutely lost the plot, and has been feeding their own victim complex to make it through the days, all the while becoming more and more brutal and ruthless because somehow in winning they feel like they're proving everyone wrong. no one thinks they're weak or disadvantaged, that's in their head, and because they need a justification for their actions they accept it... but they also want to prove themselves. it's a really dangerous kind of mentality (on top of their actual cult) because for better or for worse, a lot of the time when they're together they seem to have kind of lost sight of why they're here. they might be thinking about the eggs and wanting to protect them, but their isolation has created an us vs. them thought process that makes them unpredictable. case in point: they saw a win and they ran towards it, screaming and brandishing weapons, cheering as they finished off the egg. they were *always* going to end up there.

ggn are a wolf pack, they're driven, and for better or for worse they're incredibly measured in how they act both as individuals and as a collective. they're still all there mentally, they know their mission and that they need to accomplish it, they still see their friends in these people, they haven't given up honor and they won't. but... well, the wolf pack wants to hunt, and they're made up of people who know the art of taking calculated risks -- i'm not surprised they went for the "damage not kill" strat and only snapped in retaliation and anger that bolas had gone this far. they *want* to win, they *need* to win, they might just step all over the line and maybe put a foot out but they won't cross over it, not entirely.

soulfire may have a very scary dog and some very impulsive moments they need to chill on, but for better or for worse they have their eyes very firmly on the prize: this is for the eggs. that isn't to say that they're the only ones, but they're very very actively motivated to do *everything* they can to get them back. hell, tubbo logged on drunk off his mind at 4am to win "for dapper". it never at any point crossed my mind any of the soulfire team would actually land a hit on the eggs because for better or for worse, despite having done some fucked up shit, the eggs are untouchable and they'll fall on their swords for them any time. they made a deal and they stuck with it, and i don't think it would've matter if they had 1 player or 50 because they all stand together on this topic. they were *always* going to lose, because they refuse to cross that line (and they keep their agreements).

None of them gave a shit about try-harding to win and wanted to just have fun (Plus Roier was lagging a lot, and both Phil and Etoiles had to go to bed since it was very late where they are. And I think Foolish just didn't want to play when he's the only one from red on)

They knew that blue would probably swoop in at the end and win anyway but they decided "fuck it, if they win they win. GGs."

I still think about qsmp purgatory

To me, that arc was absolutely perfect.

The stakes were so high, we genuinely thought some or all of the eggs might die depending on who the winners ended up being, and no one knew exactly how that would play out, so you had to just try damn hard to win for your kid. But there was even that chance that if your team did win that would be the wrong outcome and your kids would die.

But anyway the atmosphere was insane

That eye and the ominous fucking voice, that opening animatic of the mystery guy walking into a surveillance setup, monitoring everyone on the island, that’s so cool. So much mystery, so much implied power.

And then we get there and girlies have NOTHING. And it was fucking bugged or something for the first part so no one could fucking mine cobblestone. Then the random disadvantages pile on top of that, now you’ve got to worry about thirst, all the food is going bad and won’t stack.

And I watched Bolas pov so that’s what I am talking about:

This group was at every conceivable disadvantage. Right off the bat they only have like half the active members of the other groups, no one there is good at pvp, and most of those guys don’t really grind and play that much. They keep dying, Phil starts to make some progress and admins spawn mobs all around him to prevent even that. They give up, and resort to killing each other.

And somehow, from rock bottom, from passing through all the stages of grief and landing on insanity, this small group goes from being but a speck in the progress bar percentages to fucking winning the whole thing.

Watching their madness turn into actual power is sooooo wonderful to watch. They stay fully crazy. But somehow, that works. Going absolutely feral, saying fuck the rules and do whatever, yell mumbled nonsense at your enemies, steal all their shit, that’s the winning play.

There is something so gratifying in watching them go from day one of not having a base, dying over and over again, to week 2 where they are kinda doing the damn thing. And still don’t have a real base and die over and over. I mean that’s literally Jaiden’s main strategy.

And then Baghera with the fucking chainsaw. And Cellbit leaning into his character’s preestablished bloodlust thingy, and everyone collectively building off of each other’s energy.

And something about watching my favorite blorbos lose their goddamn minds for 5 hours every day. I loved every second of it. And it wouldn’t be able to be much longer, Slimecicle for one was absolutely exhausted, that guy doesn’t stream for more than a few hours and now he was grinding for 5 a day. Only adds to the chaos.

But the pace, it being every day and yet a scramble because of the time limit of play time.

The complete foreign nature of an entirely new island?? With a new scary npc??? Unprecedented.

Anyways, that was a fun first day! Especially given my main povs are mostly in Red Team, which...well, I honestly did not expect them to have spiralled that hard the last half an hour? It was glorious to have witnessed though. Despite the frustrations and drawbacks, they really did claw it back?? Somehow??

I'm still sort of in a state of being overwhelmed, since I had like 14 tabs on and swapped between povs when I had to, and somehow that hit a level of stimulation that wasn't debilitating but just enriching for my brain which is one of the funniest things that came out from this.

We enjoyed seeing Charlie tryhard at being tactical??? We didn't realise until he mentioned it, that for a good 3 hours, he had not cracked a joke and went off being a spy and eavesdropper to help protect and give an advantage to his team. Like damn.

Carre was a GOAT?? HOLY SHIT???? And also, it was great that Cellbit managed to help bridge the communications between Carre and the rest of the team, after having gotten really great at spanish thanks to Roier. But man, that was unexpected but pleasant as they rallied with each other to fight back and complete the quests.

But my personal favourite moment is how BOLAS?!??!?! started fucking spiralling. The frustration had built up so much, the event pushed them SO HARD, that they threw out their Whole Ass character arcs out for EVERYONE IN THE TEAM TO HEAR. I am not sure if that was just them being meta so it's not actually a canon confession, BUT!! THE FACT THAT THEY DID!! THEY FUCKING TOLD ALL OF THEIR TEAMMATES THEIR DEEPEST SECRETS.

CELLBIT HAD KILLED THE WORKERS. FOOLISH HAD BEEN TRYING TO PROTECT HIM FOR THE ENTIRETY OF HIS INVESTIGATION. SLIME KNOWS THE FLIPPA HE'S HANGING OUT WITH WAS FAKE AND WAS CORRUPTING HIM AND IT FUCKING SCARES HIM. JAIDEN WOULD STAB THEM ALL FOR CUCURUCHO. THAT MUST HAVE BEEN CATHARTIC IN SOME FORM AT LEAST. THEY HAD JUST BEEN PUSHED THAT. FAR. TO SAY ALL OF IT IN THE OPEN.

It's funny!! Like MAN. WHAT A DAY.

Honestly, I'm sure there was so many fun moments despite everything, my streamers had fun despite the frustrations and discouragement

I am ecstatic where they may change about things going forward! I trust Q and the Admins to listen to the feedback from people and see how they can shift things to balance it out. We'll see!

Now that Bolas won again twitter will be so fucking bad again.

Yes,the team was disbalanced, half of the team doesn't enter. That doesn't change the fact that on the past three days there were most of them playing and trying. Which is why they ultimately succeeded.

But the whole hate thing and people protecting then on twitter is so fucking bad. It's always cellbit's fan base, and I say that because I watch him for a very long while now, and there's always a % of people in a chat that are awful, and cellbit's is very big. And this causes a whole deal where people keep attacking and protecting the CC's and each other and it's so fucking hard to see.

I don't even like pvp, I hate seeing people frustrated, seeing cellbit just kill Bagi right now was so sad, and knowing she lost everything again is terrible.

But that's the game, at this point there are no more Weak ones, everything is on the table. But people need to play for it to be fair. The only reason team balls is even playing is because they were together, and that's the whole point of having a team.

They thought of a plan, waited until the last minute and succeeded two times. And it isn't the other teams fault if they schedule doesn't align with when they enter, so that they can wait until everyone's gone to cash in. But that's why you have so many timezones and teammates.

The whole problem in the end is communication and player availability, which will settle itself eventually. But if people keep tearing each other apart, and pointing fingers it will just be exhausting for everyone, more than it already is.

Sometimes i want to slap red in the face. "they dont let me roleplay!" they literally do. "they never take our extended olive branches" YOU DONT TAKE THEIR'S EITHER!! Then they blame Pierre wearing enchanted armor on blue as a whole, talking as if blue doesn't care at all about the rules when mixing in meta complaints about blue which just. Doesn't work if they meant those statements about blue in a roleplay sense.

Then they kill Bad, blaming him for Pierre and claim the entirety of blue is cheating. Sending fans after them effectively. Took like 30 minutes for Cellbit to clarify he doesn't actually blame Bad for cheating.

They give incorrect roleplay (hopefully roleplay) statements about things like "blue not respecting qTubbo" or "blue not caring about anything but winning" (despite how ccCellbit has been arguing against some roleplay aspects and pushing for only caring about winning which is. ok dude.) and mix these statements with meta complaints about rules or roleplay. Effectively making the incorrect roleplay statements indistinguishable from meta statements. Which is just. Ugh. No fucking wonder people who dont watch blue have such dumbass ideas and impressions of them.

i really want to be positive and only put down my ideas solely about the characters, and this whole enchant (and general gameplay) discussion borders on kinda talking about the CCs.

but yah, bolas legitimately could not do what qtubbo just did. for context he got his stuff stolen, then thrown into lava.

then while the entire qsmp was discussing if they wanted to get rid of enchantments HE CAME BACK WITH A FULL ENCHANTED DIAMOND SET?? bolas could never!! bolas is sharing two enchanted pickaxes, and a good chunk of them haven't recovered from the egg war!

obviously none of us care about keeping enchantments!!

i don't hate the blue team, it's honestly really cool that in such a short amount of time they're all stacked. it's just that some (THE QSMP CHARACTERS NOT THE CCS THEMSELVES I LOVE THEM ALL) of them play with tactics that fuck up my team, which in return tanks my view of their team. ya know?

also, stop overly comparing the frustration of each team. it's a competition, the players and viewers will be upset at varying levels when they lose.

bottom line, if the content creators didn't want o play, they wouldn't. and they all say they're having fun. now we as viewers have to chill the fuck out and enjoy the show.

while the qsmp purgatory event might not be for everyone it so is the event for me

the concept of the purgatory itself is super cool, could be its own fic au and i think people would love it

theres respawning so deaths arent permanent, but rp-wise does it fully excuse killing your friend? they arent dead but they still felt it they still remember it

where will they draw the line? they might say they wont kill their so but will they uphold that?

the daily percentages bring out the competitivnes and create grudges (in the characters not ccs!)

they were put in such an interesting situation and many are rp-ing the shit out of it (look at bolas man)

the character building thats going on is so fun

the teams and tasks are making a lot of them hang out together more and i love it

and like bagi said the conversations that will follow after this are going to fuck so hard

Yes I’m breaking ‘Don’t talk about twt’ taboo. Sorry not sorry. And I don’t even main Philza but it’s. Actually insane to me that some fans would go out of their way to insist that their team was cursed to the point that they essentially put some blame on Philza for how Purgatory ended. Some basically saying that Philza made the admins scrabble to retcon the cursed team and therefore rewrite the now unsatisfying ending. Just because he didn’t bend to Tubbo’s every whim and didn't say ‘your logic that Blue is cursed is 100% sound and definitely doesn’t have holes that would make trusting your logic risky when it comes to the safety of the eggs, we’ll just let Blue win which therefore makes all of our struggles these past two weeks in absolute vain, no further discussion on any evidence we may have, nope.’ Yeah, no, because he didn’t do this, the cursed team thing and part of what made Purgatory's ending unsatisfying is his fault, guys.

(and no you can't even try to excuse this as a character thing or say it's about the character. Given that Phil himself said that the way Bolas acted in Purgatory had some sense of genuine reactions from the cc’s, the choices they made were strongly based on the content creators’ feelings/actions. That, and talking about someone’s choices making the admins ‘retcon’ the cursed team is meta discussion, because that's talking about something a content creator does with his character that would make admins change the narrative. So surprise, you can only use the ‘/rp no hate to the creator’ so much before it starts to feel like total bullshit)

It’s the most conspiracy sorta thinking I have ever heard in this fandom, which is saying something. Because perhaps the blame should be more solely focused on the fucking people who constructed the narrative of purgatory in the first place. Looking back, given what we've learned behind the scenes, you're really telling me that the qsmp team decided at the last minute to do a whole entire rewrite of the ending because of the actions of a content creator?? Given the fact that the players' choices in past events have hardly ever actually made a severe impact for these events in the long run (i.e. the prison event), yeah, I very much doubt that (if an admin comes out and tells us otherwise, I am totally okay with being wrong, but that's not what I have seen as of yet). Some fans refuse to accept the concept that the higher up admins absolutely only had one narrative ending in mind that could not be changed or effected by any regular player choices, that the players' choices, as usual, did not matter. That there was never a cursed team because the ending was always going to be what it was no matter what team won. A single outcome, regardless of what happens? Is that so ludicrous to believe?

But no let’s blame a single cc for how this event turned out just because he didn’t do what you guys wanted. Let’s imply a cc made the admins work even more than usual just to write/work on a new ending because of a retcon. Let’s imply a cc did something wrong when it comes to how he played Purgatory, which Quackity himself, when players were receiving massive hate, said is fucking bullshit because Purgatory is about doing whatever you can to win and that there is no wrong way to go about it (nothing about teaming up or finding out the cursed team, it’s almost like this is an event that is meant to be actually played with one team winning in mind and that the cursed team thing was meant as a diversion/a way to sew discord hmmmmm).

Absolutely insane behavior like PLEASE, can we not blame the content creators for the qsmp's narrative changes, god, I hate twitter so much.
