I like to theorize/headcanon that Stolas’ “do you know what I want?” Monologue will eventually be mirrored by Blitz. Like when he confesses or when their relationship is real and healthier.

So… I wrote a lil thing for it. Do with this what you will

The actual monologue by Stolas:

Taash is babey 🥺 it makes sense why in this screenshot she looks young. if Taash is in her early 20s, say 23, that means she probably can't have been one of the Five Belles of Hunter Fell as that was in 9:42 and she would have been like 13

Here is some further info about companion ages that came out since the time of the Q&A

Harding had to have been at least 18 ten years ago in 9:42 when she joined the Inquisition and became Lead Scout, so must be at least 28. but I think older, as I think she was older than 18 in DA:I by a fair few years. like around early to mid 20s at that point in time.

This was how Trespasser was and it was the best part of DA:I, the storytelling and narrative beats in that DLC were soo good.

Hossberg Wetlands! - new location confirmed, and also described as being one of the biggest like Arlathan Forest. also new location just dropped, Hossberg existed before in the lore but I don't remember hearing about the Wetlands! Hossberg is the capital of the Anderfels. it'll be awesome to see more of the Anderfels than only Weisshaupt. by the name these wetlands must be nearby Hossberg. I wonder whether they're around the Lattenfluss or more around this body of water to the south of Hossberg? the area around Kassel looks wet with multiple bodies of water, but there the nearest settlement is Kassel. we also learned that there's a Davrin-oriented quest there that he can show up in with Assan and help you clear the way forward

also, I remember reading before that "Thedas’s separate regions are connected by The Crossroads, which will allow players to venture out into", but from how The Crossroads was described in the Q&A, they sound kind've like an explorable area in and of themselves in the game like they were in Trespasser, and that's exciting. :D I'm so excited to explore in there some more and see how it has changed from DA:I/Trespasser:

"but this, isn’t necessarily the Crossroads as you remember it. So you’ll be able to explore this, this part of the Crossroads, and as you’re there, you’re absolutely gonna be discovering new areas, new quests, mysteries and new challenges"

like this sounds very 👁️. The Veil has been having a rough time lately and magic has been flowing into the world. reality is warping in places like Arlathan. we've seen the effects this sort of thing is having on the waking world. but what about the effects this is happening on the Fade and Fadey dimensions? I wonder if this game will still reflect that the Crossroads looks different for elves compared to other lineages?

This is inchresting and ties to what was said in these two previous quotes:

The effects of this on space, reality, visuals, people and their abilities, ancient elven artifacts turning back on, and Solas' activities being part of what affected things in the time since DA:I. I wanna speculate that these ancient elven artifacts turning back on or becoming active again is part of why reality has been warping and "something [going] wrong" in Arlathan Forest. I wonder if the Morlyn clan journal relic began rewriting itself as a consequence of the magic returning.

Bellara was an interesting example though, she's a mage not a non-mage like Taash, Lucanis, Harding. was I parsing this right - is the implication that she wouldn't be able to interface with the artifacts that have turned back on if the Veil was in better shape and magic hadn't been pouring back in?

All the talk of magic coming back into the world are like Sandal's prophecy:

One day the magic will come back - all of it. Everyone will be just like they were. The shadows will part and the skies will open wide. When he rises, everyone will see.

and reminds of a few other bits too:

I loved hearing about Bellara's friendships with Lucanis and Neve. it sounds so well thought-out, and I'm looking forwards to learning the relationships between each companion!!

Bellara believing that family is deeply important combined with a previous quote about her backstory,

"Whereas Bellara is somebody who has seen tragedy, and as you get into her character arc and get into her backstory, you realize this is a character who has seen a lot of tragedy"

makes me wonder if this tragedy has involved her family and if her family are okay. 🥺

Lucanis' belief in the deep importance of family makes me worried in case any of his personal arc/story involves the family tensions he has with Illario and Caterina

I love that Bellara collects newspaper clippings and was basically Neve fan before meeting her!

Neve must be a fairly prominent, well-known/successful private detective/investigator to have formed a large profile in print media

Taash and Emmrich [...] When you’re out in the field like exploring, or on missions with them, their banter is so good, because they do not see eye-to-eye on necromancy, like, at all, and, it’s really funny, it’s really delightful, I love seeing how it evolves

as a necromancer Emmrich doesn’t have a problem with necromancer (makes sense). I wonder what Taash dislikes about it? is it its bad reputation (per Josie in DA:I)? Solas freed the weak spirit the Mortalitasi in Tevinter Nights had bound to stir her drink. maybe Taash doesn’t like the binding part, or the undead helpers or servants part? maybe she just doesn't like the dead the way Bull doesn't like demons?

Having to figure out how Harding's new powers layer into her combat kit - Harding's new magical powers are part of her gameplay abilities confirmed!

Harding can also do Heavy Draw

Interesting - the more you help a faction the more gear you get from them. between that and transmog it means everyone can access the Antivan Crows awesome threads if they wanna :D

Both the specs and gear are themed around particular factions like aesthetically but aren't exclusive-to-them when it comes to use/gameplay

It sounds like each faction will have a quartermaster

Veil Jumper lore! they tend towards electricity/lightning damage and archery in their fighting style. and in general they're practically minded and dress as such because where they go and what they do requires care and protection and is dangerous, they wear boots/shoes etc for this reason

Veil Ranger info! it tends towards electricity, use of the Veil and use of that kind of magic. it also uses archery

It sounds like Lucanis' parents were killed at some point in some Crow-Crow politics. probably when he was quite young, since when Lucanis thinks back on being raised by Caterina she did things like making him spend days without food or water, which makes it sound like he was quite young when he entered her care

ABILITY TO SAVE CHARACTER APPEARANCES for use later in CC aaaa. Amazinggg. thankyouuu. a lot of thought has been put into the quality of life features of this game :') pausing cutscenes is another great one.

I'm sure it will be different this time around as it always is! - both Wynne's situation (the specifics of it, how it came around, the effect it had on her) and how it was explored in the story was different to Anders' which was again different to Justice's in DA:O's to Cole's etc. (speaking veeery broadly in terms of the 'spirit companion' archtype, I know for example that Cole isn't possessed, simply a spirit. yk what I mean). I'm super curious about the take on this theme this time around ^^

(Lucanis possession-y-type-situation evidence [plus his demon-y looking tarot art, plus the wings and purple magic abilities of course])

I love the agency companions are given by them showing up in the field to help you, waiting for you somewhere on a quest they want to go on, or you encountering them out randomly somewhere doing there own thing (like the tidbit from a magazine about encountering Neve). it makes them feel like real people

I wonder if Taash's keen interest in the main story mission & the challenges of its arc in the far reaches of Arlathan Forest (it's strong enough that she shows up there impatiently if you don't take her) has something to do with the eluvian that's in her room?

"Far reaches of Arlathan Forest" is music to my ears btw as someone who has wanted to explore in there for the longest time

"You’ve just been around them, you’re aware of their techniques, and you wanna take that on yourself." - sensical explanation of what 'specs are aligned with/tied to factions' means ^^

So, I will say that, you know, it’s funny until I saw this question, it’s not something I’d ever thought a lot about, but as I started thinking about it a little bit more deeply, based on how the climate changes across Thedas, you know, obviously, to the south are the Avvar and things get a little bit more wintry, and then up north is a lot more tropical, I’d say that Thedas is a southern continent on this world, so."

I feel like the answer that was given here matches what a lot of fans have speculated or headcanoned on this topic. ^^

This makes sense. It sounds like Liara on Thessia in ME3.

When someone asked "Can a companion leave due to your world decisions, and if so, will their partners leave with them?" and John Epler mentioned that he would only answer half of this question as the other half is a spoiler, it made me wonder if companions will leave at certain times due to our world decisions

No mechanic behind companion-companion romances is so nice, it's more organic and real that way. I'm really looking forward to seeing the friendships and relationships between the companions develop

DAVRIN INFOOO 😭🙏 He sounds amazing. I wonder which companions in particular bring out his kindness

It's great that fine, fancy dwarven-style beards are returning :D I wonder if there are also hairs with beads woven in? Strand hair in the beards 👌 beard physics working with different armors 👌 (amazing work!!). Dwarf Rooks shown before launch 👌 as many options in CC being universal as possible 👌 I love what I'm hearing!! I would guess from this that it means hair isn't gender-locked and mostly isn't lineage-locked (I can understand qunari hair may have to be) and things like that.

It wasn't in doubt ofc but this Q&A is the first time I remember hearing a clear mention that Solas was written by Trick Weekes in DA:TV

I'm really curious about the Rook faction background-dialogue with that same companion. it sounds like some have only heard of them and some may have known them a bit more directly. Like for example, is Antivan Crow Rook also from House Dellamorte, or another Antivan Crow house? Has Grey Warden Rook ever been to Weisshaupt (some Wardens don't seem to have)? Did Veil Jumper Rook ever go on adventures with Bellara? Did Emmrich and Mourn Watcher Rook ever be direct colleagues in the Necropolis? etc.

"maybe even heard of you leaving the faction to go help Varric to track down Solas" - this snippet makes it sound like part of Rook's backstory may involve having left their background faction when getting picked up/tapped by Varric for the work. inchresting

I'm curious about the differences in Solas' connection/relationship with Rook to the one he had with the Inquisitor

I was happy to hear this. ^^ it would be odd if this sort of thing wasn't explored or at least acknowledged in the game. you can hear a bit of this in Bellara's release date trailer line, "Our gods are back. Our gods." it was also hinted at a bit in this Game Informer article I feel.

Was Felassan once essentially a party member of Solas'?

Even mundane Kieran's dialogue line about who his mother is ("She's the Witch of the Wilds") touches on this. The old Witch of the Wilds, Flemeth, is no more. Morrigan has taken on the mantle, in a manner of speaking. These things seem especially impactful in worldstates where Morrigan drank from the Well. I am curious about how Well-drinking Morrigan vs non-drinking Morrigan will play out.

In a way, Morrigan has already stepped into her mother's role in the world of Dragon Age. Flemythal used to show up dramatically and mysteriously in every game to interact with the main character of that story. Morrigan has also been doing that, also now for 3 games. I'm reminded of Varric's tombstone in the Fade, Became His Parents. especially if she continues to do this while she gets older, the similarity is apparent.

New lore, or maybe a return to older lore? in DAII Isabela tells Merrill the Dalish haven't reached Llomerryn. but prior to that around 2009, David Gaider mentioned that the Dalish elves in Rivain have a semi-permanent settlement in Llomerryn. this sounds like that, and it sounds like it's not only Llomerryn. of course, Bela could just have been mistaken or this could be a recent development that began in the last decade or so in the world. I think it makes sense for what we know about Rivain.

I'm curious about which do and which don't for this, and not only for the elf lineage. an elven Veil Jumper may have more to say on or different investment in the artifacts they find and places they explore. an Antivan Crow who was employed because humans often find them attractive, or an Antivan Crow who was an enslaved elf or enslaved human and then bought by the Crows may have different thoughts on/experiences being a Crow than say a human who was born into it. (this is previous lore stuff, the Crows favoring recruiting elves, Zevran was bought etc). etc.

idk if this counts as a request, but I loved your post on starting, and I was wondering if you had any advice for one step before a writing session (i.e., going from the staring-at-the-wall phase to sitting down in front of some sort of screen and opening the right document). It sounds silly, but that's where I'm at right now; I've figured out how to handle a blank page most of the time, once I'm there, but I'm having trouble getting to that point. Is this something you deal with, and if so, do you have any tips for handling it?

i'm gonna assume you mean the like outlining/drafting stage? like not 'writing' the story but just like making scene outlines and stuff? that's what I'll answer but if it's wrong pls send me a follow up and i'll fix it lmao

outlining is a very person-to-person thing because it fits the story and the style and the blah de blah de blah.

but...here are some basic templates you could build off of and make your own.

the 3 act outline. divide your story into 3 'acts'.

Act 1: set-up and exposition - in the Hobbit, for example, this act would be like the arrival of the dwarves, the setup of the journey, and the beginning of the journey.

This act looks different for every story. you can pick where this act ends, but it usually transitions into the second act right before a point of major conflict or the beginning of rising tension. this act includes the inciting incident and the first 'turning point'.

Act 2: confrontation - the beginning of the intense stuff. In the Hunger Games, this would look like the beginning of the Games, where Katniss is first realizing how dangerous it is, maybe the first time she gets seriously injured. it ends with the 'darkest moment', when the characters feel all is lost and they need a win.

Act 3: resolution - The final act contains the climax, the plot twist, and the fallout. it's the final battle, then any last obstructions to peace, and then the clean-up of everybody going home, wounds being bandaged, the end yayyy.

Personally, I think 3 acts is too vague, so I do 7 acts, which is basically 3 acts divided into two (plus one) to narrow down the different phases. You can absolutely mix it up depending on the story; really big intense stories might benefit from more detailed outlining just to keep the facts straight, whereas smaller stories might not need it.

play around, find what works. if you hate an outlining process, don't use it. don't butcher your story to fit it, just find something that works.

Here are some other misc tips for setting up a writing space:

keep a fact sheet handy. just basic things to remember, if you have a hard time with remembering setting locations (me cough cough) draw up a lil map to keep it straight.

a goal checklist for the part/chapter. write out generally where you want the story to go in that place, and some need-to-happen things. this can help for writer's block, if you don't know what to write next.

remember it's okay to write out of order. make a separate document for things that you liked but don't necessarily have a 'place' in the story yet. keep it on a back tab and if you realize 'oh that piece of dialogue would be great here' do an ol' copy paste and ta daaa

What didn’t you like about tlou?

lol i have many thoughts about this but i pretty much think the show cut out a lot of parts that made the game good and replaced it with stuff that either told the opposite message than the games (not necessarily a bad thing) or just didn't tell the message they wanted to tell effectively.

basically a lot of changes to characterisation that i didn't think benefitted the overall story (e.g. sarah's independence in the show vs her dependance in the game, too much focus on "emotionally constipated guy" instead of "dad joel", etc.).

also sometimes the dialogue felt really scripted and honestly kind of boring to watch (like when the joel and henry sat and talked at a table for 5 minutes and the camera pretty much just panned to whoever was talking). having banter-style conversations like in the game would've been more effective (e.g. joel+tess walking and talking while fedra are executing people in the background). it's a great opportunity for world-building, makes the dialogue more natural, keeps the audience engaged and lets you condense scenes so you've got more screentime for other stuff.

and then a lot of other things like:

cutting out important scenes/skipping build-up scenes and going straight to the climax (e.g. ellie trying to get an injured joel out of the building, tommy and joel trying to find ellie after she runs away, joel desperately trying to rescucitate ellie at gunpoint, etc.)

missing smaller but equally valuable lines/details (e.g. the "you're on mighty thin ice" line when ellie brings up sarah, joel subconsciously touching his broken watch during the ending conversation, etc.)

shit like this (game joel turning to look at ellie while he's talking to her while hbo joel looks straight ahead. gifset credit):

the lack of action/zombie screentime (and most of the times we did see them, they were your typical B-movie campy horror zombies. give us more weird mushroomy lads pls)

additional plots/scenes that didn't add much (e.g. kathleen's revenge plot is basically what tlou 2 is but worse)

less nuance about who the bad guys are (e.g. the show paints the fireflies in a more negative light, so joel's choice at the end is less impactful)

honestly a lot more, but this post truly is long enough already

but ya, i don't think that all the differences were necessarily a bad thing, i like that the show had the balls to change it up tbh. we get some fucking banger scenes like joel's confession to tommy, the "someone shot at me and missed" conversation and bill+frank winning the zombie apocalypse. loved seeing bella ramsey get angry too. i just think some of the changes/additions were unnecessary and took up a lot of screentime that could've been better used. i think overall the show has some weird pacing issues in general and suffers a lot from it.

I don’t have many specific examples at hand that I wish I did, but having been reading a lot of (mostly act 1) sibling dialogue while working on twinception, I’ve noticed a few things in particular

1. carver and bethany are experiencing very similar hurt in act 1. they recently lost a twin, they’re barely scraping by as refugees, and they’re on the run from templars. the main difference between the two is that carver, having been the only non-mage among his siblings, feels like he’s been pushed aside and neglected his whole life, and he lashes out. bethany, being the only mage among her siblings, blames herself for being a burden on the rest of the family her whole life, and carries that all with her. I don’t have a problem with any of this, though it really is no surprise that fandom prefers the character who suffers quietly over the more outspoken character (:

2. and yet, nearly all of the conflict between carver and hawke circles around to hawke being a mage, again and again, even when it really should be beside the point, since carver grew up in a family with three apostates, not just hawke? and yet whenever I try to hack together dialogue for twinception the main problem I run into is that I often have literally nothing for carver and non-mage hawke to say to each other because it’s all “wah wah mages blah blah templars” which is just. kinda a cheap and lazy way to handle the sibling rivalry tbh? and sometimes you can see where they cut more neutral dialogue early in the writing process to play that conflict up which is really frustrating.

3. there are plenty of instances where hawke is just weirdly mean to carver for no reason? like in the first scene in act 1 carver tells bartrand “we’ve fought darkspawn you need us” and all three dialogue options are variations on berating carver for his tone? or accusing him of being threatening when he did nothing of the sort? again, easier than writing a nuanced sibling rivalry ig. it makes for a weird double standard between the text’s treatment of carver vs. non-mage hawke, when you compare the two.

4. it makes no sense to ever read carver as uncritically pro-templar. he grew up in a family with multiple apostates. he knows why they avoid the templars and the circle. he’s been helping them do this his whole life. he has a moral compass. he only joins the templars because he’s been left behind alone to care for his grieving mother and gambling addict uncle and as a refugee he can find no other work since aveline blacklisted him from joining the guard for no reason, which only comes up in like one line of banter. no one can convince me carver’s remotely okay with anything that’s happening in the gallows, and yet people walk away from the game with these weird ideas about him.

5. this is the dialogue I really wish I could bring up receipts on, but there are times I’ve found myself skimming through late-game carver dialogue, from like, I’m pretty sure in the dlc, in like acts 2 or 3, and sometimes his friendship/rival dialogue is just? wild? like if someone played a mage and didn’t befriend carver, and then left him behind, I’m not surprised they might get to the end of the game really disliking him, because he spent so much time in act 1 sniping at hawke for being a mage, and sometimes the dialogue for rival templar carver and friend warden carver is?? two completely unrecognizably different characters?? like? he hasn’t even spoken to hawke in years? it’s like he exists only to react to hawke’s actions.

idk carver’s just another casualty of da2 leaning really, really hard into the ~theme~ of ~mages vs templars~ for the ~grey morality~ and ~dramatic climax~ ig

Time for my feels dump thoughts on Diabolical Box...! y’all, this game. this game. I don’t think people give it enough credit for... a lot of what it does, despite the messiness of the plot reveals... but it’s so special and unique, in ways I’m only now appreciating. also this is gonna be really REALLY fucking long I am so sorry, but I have a Lot to say about the ending parts... i just love this game so much...... so i wrote a fucking novel bc of course i did.

also i played this in October, completely unintentionally, so that’s noice.

The amount of voice acting and cutcenes in this compared to CV is amazing, I love it so much, even if it is funny sometimes the dialogue they choose to voice and then abruptly cut off a few lines later.

I had COMPLETELY forgotten about Luke jumping on Chelmey and trying to rip his face off and it’s just the funniest fucking thing omg; Hershel in the background going “NO LUKE THAT’S HIS FACE” is comedic gold.

Will we ever know what Hershel was going to say when Chelmey asked him what Luke’s relationship to him was... dammit Luke why’d you have to cut him off.

Hershel calling the hamster “generously proportioned” is amazing. also “I’ve always said that helping rodents in need is among the duties of every true gentleman” Hershel... please tell me what other situations have made you say that... please...

Why is there an entire subplot about finding this Karen’s dog, just to make Chelmey look like even more of an idiot? if they needed to pad the game out more, they definitely could have done it with flashbacks or in places that I’m... ahem... emotionally invested in

Flora’s treatment in this game is so infuriating to me, like... why did they think this was a good idea? What was the point of bringing her into the plot for NO other reason than to be kidnapped and impersonated? Was it literally just because they needed a way for Hershel and Luke to run into Don Paolo and get the box back from him??? Why couldn’t, idk, Katia run into him in Dropstone and get the box from him and save Flora, that would still get the box to her and keep Flora in the group, and it would tip them off to Katia being related to all this even earlier, and Don Paolo could still be shown there if he absolutely has to make an appearance in each game. I know it’s because he has to be built up and then revealed, and because Hershel always has to have a dramatic point-n’-reveal every game, but whyyyyyy does it have to be at the expense of Flora. :))))) It would have been interesting to see her reactions to Folsense and Anton and everything, and not have Katia be the only female involved in all this; maybe she could, you know, actually have a personality!! hahaaaa who am I kidding...

Am I the only one who doesn’t understand the obsession with the tea set... like yeah it’s fun to serve tea when you actually get it right, but I’m stuck with like two recipes missing and getting frustrated just trying and trying countless ingredient combinations on end because some of the npcs are NOT helpful enough in telling what to make :))))

Obviously Katia can’t reveal anything or say anything about why she’s there at all to keep the suspense till the end, but it would have been cool to see her working together with them and making a plan to get into the castle and help Anton aka I just wanted more scenes with Anton being nice and not flying into a rage over a misunderstanding ugh

Opening the Elysian Box is the best puzzle in the series, because of the meaning behind it. Or at least, it’s my favorite for that reason :^)

Alright folks so I’m gonna be completely, unabashedly honest here, and reveal myself to be the superficial, shallow fucker I am lmao: Anton is super hot and I’m still attracted to him even now, and I hate that we get so little time with younger him dklslskdfkflssd I AM SORRY I CAN’T HELP IT OKAY. BLAME THE VOICE ACTOR, HE HAD NO RIGHT TO SOUND SO UNEXPECTEDLY DEEP AND INCREASE ANTON’S HOTNESS LEVEL BY 1000%... just. god damn. damn. the dining room scene. the lighting. the way he puts his hands down and closes his eyes at one point. the way he says Herzen. the freaking sass with “chalk it up to my bad taste then.” the little clap. his entire design which just oozes Victorian era anime bishie beauty. kudos to the character designer who was like “well they said make someone cool and handsome and i wasn’t sure what to do but i tried and i guess it worked out” GOOD SIR BOY DID YOU SUCCEED. how dare this man turn me on so much, fUCK. And I know it’s super shitty of me to not like his old design as much!!! but just!!! why the beak nose.... why.... he was so gorgeous and then you give him the Bronev nose treatment..... i’m already so sad over the ending but you make him look so much sADDER, THE SADDEST POSSIBLE DESIGN FOR OLDER ANTON. It’s not that I mind him being old, I just wish he looked more like himself... there didn’t need to be such a drastic change. *ahem* But to get back to serious topics, replaying this now when I’m older, with the ones after it in mind, I think I finally realize why this game stands out to me so much from the others, making it my favorite. To put it as best I can, Diabolical Box, to me at least, just has a different feel from all the other PL games. Yes, it’s still definitely a Layton game, you still investigate a mystery, there’s still puzzles everywhere, it still has a relaxing city or country feel to the atmosphere, there’s still lots of charm, but once you hit Folsense and the climax and the ending reveals, the tone sort of... shifts? Not drastically, but enough that’s different from any point in all the other games that I can remember; I feel like Last Spector might have the closest kind of atmosphere to Folsense at certain parts, but even then the plot of that game is nowhere near to having the same tone as this one. Diabolical Box, when you really look close at it and think about it, is dark. Dark in a way that none of the other games are, despite the darkness some of the others do have. And I think part of that is because almost every other game/movie is connected to the overarching story involving Hershel’s past and people involved with him, and so the drama and angst is very much grounded in London or other places Hershel would be/was, and in his time, but Diabolical Box is unique in that the story and characters in it have nothing to do with him. And to reflect this, Anton and Sophia’s story is based in the early 1900′s, the Victorian era, in a city so far separated from, again, everything to do with Hershel, that if you were to just watch their story by itself and take the professor and Luke out of it, and you knew nothing about the series, you could reasonably argue that it isn’t from a Professor Layton game at all. What I mean is that Anton’s story could be an entire anime all on its own surely it’s not obvious how badly I want that, nope, not at all, completely separate from this series, and it would work; it could be its own period era-esque drama series, still with all the supernatural shit intact later on. I can think of a few existing anime similar to what I’m imagining. 

And I really do think it would be amazing, because like I said this story is terribly, terribly dark, and sad; as a PL game, like a lot of the other ones, it can’t go deep into the nitty gritty of what makes Anton’s story so fucking depressing, but just like... Imagine it. Imagine being alone, for so long in that castle, so long that you don’t even know how long it’s been anymore, with virtually no one, after having your heart broken and being abandoned by the person you loved the most, and who you thought loved you, and getting no closure about it. This long post goes a ton of detail about Anton’s character and things he was probably feeling/reasons for his behavior, but in short, Anton’s mother is never mentioned, so combined with how distant he was from his father and the fact that he feels alone in his role in society and that no one truly sees him as a real person, it’s quite possible that he clung to Sophia unconsciously as a mother figure, and, in general, she was the only person who made him feel seen, and loved. The only exception was Beluga, but Beluga leaves the town and Anton behind after quarreling with their father, so... It’s just extremely apparent when you read the diary entries and his dialogue (with the voice acting) that Anton was always alone and terribly insecure, and that Sophia made him the happiest he ever was - and so her leaving him was devastating to him. He was alone for fifty years (and who knows how long it actually felt, to him), in a lonely castle and emptying town, his entire family either left or dead, his body slowly aging without him even knowing it, while he had a daughter and granddaughter born without even knowing it, and all the while he’s left with the misunderstanding that Sophia might have loved someone “better” than him all along, never getting answers, having to live with all that grief and guilt and blame and jealousy and self-hatred over a situation that wasn’t even entirely true. Imagine what your MENTAL STATE would be like, jfc it’s a miracle he’s as sane as he is in the game!! Not to mention everything that crashes down on him within TEN MINUTES AT THE END. Yes, Unwound Future and the prequels very purposefully heap the angst on with Clive/Dimitri and Descole respectively, like “we are trying so hard to make you feel for this guy cry cry cry” and I fall for it like the trash i am love them too, don’t get me wrong, but Anton’s tragedy is much more understated but in my opinion is by far the absolute saddest of them all. I just... i’m crying y’all, this poor man. give him a fucking HUG. Anton Did Nothing Wrong 2k20; he doesn’t even hurt the people he lures in with his vampire scheme!! he lets them go without a scratch!!! what a guy... give him a hug and blankets please i love him so much, him and Sophia- *sobs*

and also as a side note, I honestly think Descole/Desmond would fit perfectly into this game for a lot of these reasons, in the trend of “trying to fit Descole into the first trilogy”; he’s got the right Aesthetic™ for one thing, but mainly just he and Anton have a LOT in common...! actually, now that I think about it, Randall and Anton do too, but I much prefer the notion of Descole and Anton interacting. honestly, I’m toying with the idea of an AU where Desmond and resurrected Aurora end up in Folsense and solve that mystery themselves instead of Hershel and Luke; i think it’d be fascinating.

However, by the same token, as much as I LOVE this game and characters for all of those reasons... it also makes no fucking sense ahaha. How the FUCK does the gas work. The illness that started killing people when the ore was first unearthed and is the reason everyone starts leaving, is THAT from the gas I assume?? but like why?? cause eventually it just turns to making the town appear as it was years ago and keeping people young, so...? ARE ALL THE TOWNSPEOPLE NOT ACTUALLY THERE, OR THEY ARE AND ARE JUST YOUNG LIKE ANTON; I’m still not clear on this!! because Hershel at the end says they’re illusions, and yet when you talk to the npcs so many of them complain about being tired and feeling old, so what is the truth!! It would make sense if newcomers see the town as it is in the pictures, but there’s no reason for them to not age... in fact, I don’t understand where the not aging thing comes from at ALL, since if the idea is that the gas makes what you think will happen happen, how tf did that even come about in the first place??? There’s no way everyone who inhaled the gas would think the exact same things and have the exact same hallucination. And if fifty years passed in reality, how long did it feel like to Anton/others; surely it couldn’t have been that long if they never questioned why they weren’t aging? If the gas in the box put Schrader in a coma, what was his theory about what would happen? Why does nothing happen to Hershel and Luke upon opening it when they clearly assume something will happen? Related to other things, how does the box become the source of a rumor, and how does Schrader even get it? Do people just assume Anton is dead or otherwise gone, or do they know/assume he’s still in the castle but don’t try to see him because of the vampire? Does Beluga know Anton is still there, if he does it’s pretty shitty of him to ignore him, and why does he think the box has to do with the fortune of all things if he possibly knew Sophia wanted it and knew it had something to do with her and Anton (seriously I don’t understand Beluga, I really wish they’d done more with him; he looks so shitty even if you give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he knew the least amount possible)??? Did Sammy know that the drugged flowers related to getting into Folsense? Did Katia know how to get into Folsense, and what was she planning to do if she never found the box in order to prove she was who she said she was? Why do some of the npcs act like they know the deep dark secret of Folsense and keep saying Hershel and Luke don’t need to know, and keep talking about the town being cursed, like do they really know the truth?? Or not??? LEVEL-5 I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS AND I’M TOO DUMB TO FIGURE OUT THE ANSWERS. EVEN LAYTON VS. WRIGHT’S STUPID REVEALS MAKE MORE SENSE THAN THIS AAAAAHHHH

anyway DB best game anton hot Even with all the weirdness though that makes this game the most Layton the Layton series has ever Layton’d lmao, I still love Diabolical Box so damn much. I love it so much, guys. It’s not part of a huge narrative, it’s not connected to the main characters; it tells its own little story and it does that perfectly. It’s so unique from all the rest, like I said, the plot has so much depth I don’t really see talked about, Anton and Sophia’s story is so beautifully tragic and underrated on a mature level that none of the other games really reach, and despite how upset I am we don’t get to see more of them, their love story is so impactful and emotional just from what little we do see, despite some of the oddities of how it plays out... they’re so sweet together and I cry so damn much over them ಥ⌣ಥ Iris is one of the most beautiful and touching songs in the series, too, and my favorite. And I’m a sucker for the Victorian era and cute romance lmao, so it just gets me like nothing else does... it’s so wonderful. saddest PL game, I will die on this hill. Even if I seem to talk a lot more about some of the other games/characters simply because there’s more content to talk about and there’s more to say about the more flawed content. you can’t improve perfection *chef’s kiss*, deep down, I think, this game will always be my favorite. ❤️

One thing I notice with your writing is the careful attention to detail. Like how you opened July 1869 with the overcast sky and promise of rain and then end the market scene with the rain storm. It’s just these small things that make your writing stand out imo. Ok, but once she gets back to the palace and we find out that King Yoongi has been looking for her?? Like… I imagine he personally went to her room, waddling around the palace with a giant boner under his robes, and was like annoyed when she wasn’t there😂 hahaha and the way his jealousy JUMPS when he finds out she was accompanied by another man. I wonder if he’s aware of their budding friendship… and how that would make him feel.... I fear for Scholar Park’s head. My fave part of July 1869 is when he notices that she hasn’t been wearing his bracelet. (AND SHE’S KEPT THE BROKEN PIECES) It gives me the same vibes as when a husband notices his wife isn’t wearing her wedding band for some reason. And the way he immediately wants to get it replaced??? It’s like he wants/needs to have a physical mark on her. And the NSFW bit: so King Yoongi likes eating pussy huh?? 👀Like a lot, if he’s goin at it again and again hahah it’s just… I feel kinda proud of him that he’s finally figured out how to pleasure her and that he’s been prioritizing her climax over the past few months. Explain your opinions pls

Okay. I have a lot, and I mean A LOT of opinions about this new movie so let me give a non-spoiler review of all the things I liked about the movie, and all the things I don’t like.

(Also keep in mind that I am not going to be judging this like an episode of Ninjago. I’m going to be judging it as a full length movie that was shown in theaters. So obviously I’m going to be more critical than I would the show.)

Things I Enjoyed about The Lego Ninjago Movie:

Going all Out (not the song)

I don’t think I’m lying when I say that this movie.. definitely didn’t have to exist. Ninjago isn’t exactly a super well known show among most audiences and it’s already a pretty ballsy decision to make a movie about it. But you can tell they really did try to make something good.(For the most part.)In behind the scenes clips you can clearly see the people had fun making the movie, and despite what the movie is, you really have to appreciate that.

They threw A LOT of ideas and clear effort into this movie and its hard to be upset at anything that tries like that. Especially since there are movies out there that don’t try and focus on manipulating the audience. (I’m looking at you Lorax!!)

Lord Garmadon

Simply put, their enemy Lord Garmadon is the best thing in the movie. He has the best voice acting, the best jokes, the best writing, and he’s just very entertaining to watch and see him interact with the other characters. It’s very safe to assume that he steals the show. (Which actually kind of leads to another problem but we’ll get to that later.)

The Animation

I don’t know if this counts, since it’s still kind of the same animation as in the other movies, but I’m still going to mention it because the lego animation is still pretty damn impressive. A lot of the movement between things like how the characters move, how the mechs and machines move, the fight scenes, and all other sort of things like that work very well.

Unique and Surprisingly kind of Deep

This movie definitely puts some twists on some old kids movie cliches. I won’t go into detail on what things exact but lets just say there’s some very interesting conflict between Lloyd and his father near the sort of climax of the movie. Yeah there are some cliches that don’t change like the reveal of the Ninja’s powers. But it’s alright.

Some of the Jokes Work

Like said. Some of the jokes work very well. From inside jokes of the show, and other jokes that managed to make me actually laugh. Some of them visual, some of them dialogue based. But there are some good jokes Most of them involving Wu and Garmadon.

One of my favorite jokes is actually the one that contributes to the story, with Garmadon’s generals in the middle of the movie. For those who’ve seen the movie I think you know what I’m talking about.

The Movie Does get Better as it Progresses

I’m happy I did get something out of this movie. Most notably near the end where I did start getting happy and started feeling more involved in the movie.

Things I didn’t like about the The Lego Ninjago Movie:

The First 1/3rd of this Movie is Some of the Worst Piece of Film I’ve ever seen (and I wish I was exaggerating)

Everything before the scene where they go to the forest is just plain awful. Literally everything is wrong with the beginning of this movie. I can’t say specifics because this is a spoiler free answer, but I will say that every scene in the beginning is painfully flawed, when the film is available everywhere I’ll probably make a post analyzing the scenes and explaining why they suck.

But for now your just gonna have to listen to the other points I make after this point because the rest of these can completely describe the first couple of scenes.

Everything Moves too Damn Fast

Almost everything in this movie (especially the beginning) moves waaaaay to quickly. The pacing is so fast you can barely tell whats going on. Sometimes it takes no more than a blink for you to be completely lost in what’s going on in the movie. Most notably any scene that had the other ninja in it, would run by so fast you would think the director was ashamed of the characters and wanted to get them over with as soon as possible.

Too Much Focus on the Wrong Details

All the writing and scenes are focused on all the wrong things. Remember how I said Garmadon was the best thing in the movie? That’s because 70% percent of this movie is focused on him. Other things are focused on Lloyd which is fine, but also stupid scenes with background characters and much more other things I don’t even really remember. (And I just saw the movie a couple of hours ago.)

Horrible Writing and Story

If you haven’t seen the show, you will have absolutely no idea what is going on in this movie. The whole movie treats you like you already know who the characters are, what they’re like, and so forth. Even though we really don’t.

The beginning of the movie already starts out with the Ninja in action, as if it’s the beginning of Guardians of The Galaxy 2. But while that was fun and entertaining in that movie since well, we already know who the characters are in that movie and what we think about them. In this movie we don’t even know what they’re like before their fighting scenes is shoved in your face.

Some of the Jokes Physically Hurt

Just…. the joke about the ultimate weapons. No. No. No.

Important Main Characters are Horribly thrown to the Side.

The other Ninja: Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane, and Nya, are all completely unnecessary to the story. They have a few cute moments but they only get about 2% of the focus of the movie. You could take them out of the movie and it wouldn’t make much of a difference which honestly really really sucks considering how much the marketing was centered around them, and just the fact I enjoy those characters a lot.

Strangely Bad Voice Acting

Most notably the voice acting of the other ninja are strangely underwhelming. Lloyd, Zane, and Garmadon are alright but everyone else felt like they were phoning in their lines. (There were actually multiple points in the movie where I couldn’t tell if Kai, Jay, or Cole were talking since they sound so monotone.)

REPEATING THE SAME ANIMATION, SOUNDEFFECTS, AND CLIPS OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND PRETENDING LIKE WE WOULDN’T NOTICE

This pissed me off the most in the entire movie. Literally all the time, scenes would be reused and reused over and over again. Most notably when the ninja are talking to each other with their masks on. Its painfully obvious and genuinely insulting to think they could just repeat the same scenes over and over again and think we wouldn’t notice. It is beyond stupid.

WOW!! IM BLOWN AWAY!! ACROSS THE PACIFIC OCEAN!! i need to sit down and fully appreciate n comprehend what i just read. i really really love this chapter! as much as i love and get flustered by ur amazing smut scenes, the character development in this was so well written!1!!1 EEP i love how u portray both characters as equally as multi faceted where it’s not always just one person in the wrong! writing out those complex feelings rlly make u understand the two.. AND THE SMUT SCENE HOLY COW

pt 2 i guess bc i rlly needed to address that smut scene AHAHDNXKSK. the pool part where he was rocking into her had me rlly just… gone… it was so hot. esp with the build up of conflict and confusion it was a rlly good climax. comparing how jk first did it w her to now really makes u realise how far they’ve developed even tho its only chap 4??? idk im rambling but ah gosh I REALLY LOVED IT UR WRITING IS BEAUTIFUL AS WELL AS UR REALISTIC HCARACTERS!! pls rest before going near planning pt5!!

IM GETTING SUCH A POSITIVE RESPONSE TO PT 4 AND IM REALLY REALLY HAPPY ABOUT THAT!!!!!! im really so happy u guys loved the development too because i dont know HOW MANY times i went back to rewrite dialogue or whatever. even as a writer. its possible u can write ur characters out of character and i tried so hard to be consistent. i had to think about every micro detail n if jungkook would REALLY say that or whatever. so if u saw all the drafts i had for this. u might just feel sorry for me LOL 

but thank u so much i really appreciate this a lot!!!!!!! but omg,,,…. i know…… im so happy u mentioned the smut scene because…… that scene had me so bothered…… and i wrote it………. i dont know how much research i had to do for that but lets just say it was a lot. i wanted it to be realistic but also really hot so im happy u think so!!!!!! i think maybe some people think the sex scene shouldnt have happened because it was RIGHT after what happened at the gas station but. sometimes when ur panicking like that. u just want to take ur mind off things and that was exactly what they did. just doing what they normally do helped her. BUT YES I HOPE IT WAS A CLEAR CONTRAST TO THE FIRST PART!!!!!! omg please ramble away as u can see i also rambled LMAO

I have to write some smut for a request and like I can't get into the mind set to do annnyyyyyyttttttthhhhhhiiiiiiiinnnnnnggggg. Can you pls help and give some tips or something (only if you're cool with it of course) thank you, you're amazing

hmmmm smut is honestly the most challenging for me to write, and it has nothing to do with the sexual nature of it. its honestly just so freaking descriptive - and writing character actions, expressions and movements are already SO tedious to me, that writing an entire piece where that’s the focus is just… a lot. by the end of it i’m like ‘yeah you guys better fuck because i’m exhausted’ lmfao. so i totally get what you mean. but essentially you have to go to that place where you picture the scene over and over and over again (yum, delicious) and really just pick it apart based on the movements and what makes sense and just write it in pieces. i tend to break the scenes apart and write the teasing/foreplay parts first, because they’re fun and sexy and usually, as in with the real thing, it gets me thinking about what should naturally come next. i just try to follow the logical progression of events, and maybe a piece of dialogue indicates where the narrative should go from there. i usually avoid the intense climax part of the scene until i’m really happy with all the other pieces - i feel like the build up has to be right and THEN i can dive in and make that real important part make sense. sometimes i think its going to end up one way, and i’m lead in another direction. 

so… set your scene, get the mood right, hint at lots of lip bites and flirty expressions and teasing, long touches and encouraging glances and then…. well… you know. small explosions and good times. ;)
