every time i come across any kind of post that trashes on anime english dubs and acts like japanese dubs are infallible treasures sent from the heavens i just have to roll my eyes

#idgaf i’ve watched more anime in dub than in sub #SOME OF US HAVE AUDITORY PROCESSING ISSUES #AND I NEED THE SUBTITLES TO MATCH THE SOUNDS #OR I CAN’T UNDERSTAND THEM #pls stop shitting on english dubs #not only are they NECESSARY for some people #but sometimes it’s just nice to hear your fave stories in your own language #helps to connect emotionally and stuff #also. eng VAs are real people and quite frankly the amount of hate they get is absurd #like whether you liked their voice acting or not doesn’t matter they’re still real people #Anyways. so I decided to shell out the cash for the digital release of Marble Hornets and, in season 1's readme, the timestamp for Entry 16's approximate start time was drastically off (the listed start time, if skipped to in VLC, starts partway through it??) so, since it doesn't come with subtitles and I have found the individual video subtitle files someone so kindly uploaded to the internet and am putting together those files using the timestamps to figure out when each entry starts to add subtitles to my copy of the digital release, I decided to fine tune the rest of the start times because I noticed that some entries had slightly late or early subtitles if I based it off the readme's timestamps. Entry 16 is currently the worst in terms of the word "approximate" doing some really heavy lifting, because it was at least a minute off. Most of the ones right after a TTA video are a few seconds early at least (as in they have the last seconds of the TTA video play)

#oh the things I put myself through in order to be able to easily watch Marble Hornets with my audio processing issues >_>#at least I'm learning skills maybe #I could've given up a while ago. I feel like Sunk Cost Fallacy is all that's keeping me working on getting working subtitles for season 1 #not even getting paid for this shit I'm literally just doing this for my own sake LMAO #at least I can listen to music while doing it I guess #and it's teaching me stuff about VLC and subtitles that I wouldn't have learned otherwise #first roadblock I encountered was that for some reason from Entry 15 onward the subtitles didn't apply to the file the first time.#then I noticed Entry 16's timestamp was COMPLETELY WRONG (noticed because the subtitles were DRASTICALLY off-timed)#and I've had to manually go through and check each and every timestamp I'll personally need. it's hell out here man.#I'm probably going to have to do all this for Season 2 and Season 3 too *cries*#...I wonder if I could put 'put together some subtitles files for the digital release of Marble Hornets' on my resume. probably not.#I have wasted so much fucking time on this. #i never finished it despite multiple attempts as a kid [fansubbed in 240p and split into 3 parts per episode as god intended]#but just because of the era of sonic fandom i grew up in it’s a significant piece of media for me lol #it’s so damn long is the thing. and i partake in the occasional Long Show but i need to be doing other stuff at the same time because adhd #but of course with sonic x either i have to lock in the whole time to read the translation subtitles or i have to watch the 4kids dub #watching in japanese will complete the being 12 watching sonic in my bedroom feeling extremely cool and cultured experience #as well as y’know being the objectively better and more consistent version of the show lmao #but english sonic x is kind of iconic…. i don’t want I Pretended I Was A Bar Of Soap And Slipped Right Past Them to just be Some Line….#maybe i’ll save it for my next long ass shiny hunt[s]

I don't think ill be saying anything new with this, and I'm not trying to I just want to air a thought, but I do think that one of the biggest if not the main misconception that abled people have around accessibility/adjustable settings in gaming is that they are there to make the game easier for disabled people. The point of an accessibility setting is to make it so that everyone can play at the same level. It might make the game easier for someone who doesn't need it normally, but for the people who it is there for it makes the game playable, usually at the same level as an abled player who is not using any alternative settings. If a game relies heavily on audio, it isn't going to be easier to play just because you have subtitles and indicators for HOH/deaf players, it's going to make it, so those players can enjoy the game at the same level as non HOH/deaf players. When I turn on subtitles in, say, minecraft, it's not because I'm expecting the game to be easier, it's because I want to be able to play the game at a normal difficulty level.

#txt #and i dont think anyone who has this misconception is evil or anything #i think it's juist something that needs to be worked to reduce #so that EVERYONE can enjoy a game regardless of ability #some games arent going to be for everyone and i dont think someone should need to chnaage a game fundamentally to make it acessable #but certain changes can make it so someone who previously couldnt play it at all now can play the game #and enjoy it at the same level as everyone else #and i like games that are challenging and wouldnt ask that agame be made less challenging for me at all #i know for most gamers the challenge is part of the fun #just make it so it isnt disproportionately difficult for some players #btw i have an audio processing disorder which is where i am coming from with this #but i think it can apply to many different people and accessability needs #i just used audio stuff as an example bc its something i personally use a lot #especially in games with voice acted cutscenes or which rely on you hearing certain instructions or indicators/cues #i like audio cues but i cant always hear them #especially when its someone speaking lol then i abolsutely need subtitles

Well the french in the last episode of iwtv was certainly something

#I think I needed the subtitles almost as much as someone who does not speak french. Had to re listen to some of the lines like 2 or 3 times #WHILE reading the subs to know wtf they were saying. Or am I stupid ? I'll ask friends what they think #(Not all the lines but some were hard to get for me)#Like i understand the main actors are not fluent. Not sure they even speak french cause sometimes it sounds like they dont know what the #fuck they're saying themselves. But would it kill them to hire at least french actors for background characters who have 2 lines. So that #at least the environement is believable. Like it was okay in the 1st season cause there werent big sentences in french but here..nope #also when Sam Reid speaks english with the french accent it's okay. It works honestly. I mean I think. And at least it's funny.#But in s2 having them act those big sentences wasn't a good idea. Really you can see they dont know where to put what little tonic accent w #have in french. And so it sounds fake. I mean ''ça sonne faux'' but i dont know how to translate that exactly in english. But yeah makes th #lines sound unsincere and meaningless. So the acting is downgraded. And I can see they're putting a lot of effort into it but it does #Make them sound like they're struggling hard. And we go back to the line not feeling right. Like they dont know what they're saying you kno #*I meant intonation rather that tonic accent (maybe ?) french doesnt have a lot of tonic accent(s). but both probably apply to this case)#Im only this bitchy about it cause it's a rather big production. Im pretty sure they have the resources to do better.#I know it most likely the same for any other language that was represented in the show. Or other shows for that matter. It's just that #I dont have expertise on other languages. Tho i dont remember what show i was watching where the actors spoke spanish and even i could tell #they were neither spanish nor from any latin america country. i was worried my mom would find it weird that i wanted to buy DVDs in 2023 but not only did she help me out but she also bought me a new portable DVD player. neat

#rambles #not jojo related #personal #we have DVD players laying around but they are quite old and mom didn't know where they were lol #i remember having a portable DVD player when i was little. i think i got in trouble for trying to put rocks in it #i really do like DVDs and we have quite a few of them still in our shelves but my parents have streaming services now so we don't use them #i have always been sort of repulsed by the idea of using streaming services for watching anything though #i really do not like the idea of all media not being ownable and instead being on streaming services that can delete media when it wants #of course i definitely DON'T just pirate things most of the time (totally definitely not)#anyway in this particular instance i got DVDs of invader zim (shocker)#particularly because the IZ DVDs have special commentary from the showrunners and voice actors #the commentary isn't available on anything else and i could only find some of them on youtube and on internet archive #so the DVDs i will get... i need to listen to that commentary god damn it #i looked into the DVDs and not only do they have commentary but also episode animatics and even an option for IRKEN subtitles??#i didn't even know irkens had a whole developed language tbh...#DVDs can be so cool with the artwork and custom screens and special features... so much cooler than streaming services really
