Welp. My eyes are watering because I just sat down and read all the translated chapters of Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu in one sitting (25 chapters so far).

I actually knew nothing about it until a few hours ago...

I happened to see a post about it on Chill-Chill Twitter a couple of days ago, but I scrolled past it and didn't bother reading about it.

And just earlier, while checking the news on MAL, I saw this manga is getting an anime and went "aHA!"

Seeing it on the Chill-Chill Twitter obv meant it had something to do with BL. So I went exploring 🧐. Found out it's not really BL but Seinen, Horror, Mystery, Tragedy and Supernatural (but you could say it's also kinda Shounen Ai in a way. Chill-Chill refers to it as 'Bromance Horror'). The other genres are not really my cup of tea, but I was somehow intrigued.

I decided to read the first chapter before making a post. And... well... here I am. After reading ALL the chapters so far ^^;;. How did that happen??

Tbh this post was supposed to be about the anime and possible cast. I saw there were a couple of PVs with different seiyuu, that were posted long before the news about an anime. So I watched some of the PVs. The first one I watched was with Hirotan and Tsugu. Actually at first glance (before reading the manga and watching the PV), I thought they'd suit the characters but vice versa, aka Hirotan as Yoshiki and Tsugu as Hikaru. But after watching the PV I realized they were perfect as the reversed roles from what I thought at first.

After that I watched the other PV with a different, less familiar cast, and also tried watching some of the voice comic they did for that. I must say I wasn't feeling them as the characters very much. Maybe because I heard the Hirotan & Tsugu one first, or maybe because I'm less familiar with these two seiyuu, I just wasn't feeling their version.

So anyway, the cast for the anime is unknown yet, they only announced it's getting an anime. I wonder if they'll keep some of the cast from the PVs (there were also Ucchi & Junya ver. and KENN & Maenu ver.).

(Btw I don't know if that's just me, but the art style of the manga reminded me a little of Harada's style, and also some other mangaka's style but I can't put my finger on it atm.)

It might sound funny, but I can actually imagine Chiaki as both characters. Like, he could totally nail both Yoshiki and Hikaru, if that was a realistic option. Also, Hikaru reminds me a bit of Jintaro (visually) so that doesn't help with me imagining his voice as Chiaki's lol. He's good in dialects too, so he could do really well imo.

I actually saw some comments on the announcement tweet hoping Chiaki or Ucchi would voice Hikaru.

I do wonder if they'll choose for the anime a less known cast or a more veteran cast.

I guess there'll be a continuation to this post when they finally release the cast! ;D

I'm excited to say the least! From knowing nothing about this manga to be fully invested after a couple of hours.... well, never underestimate the power of otaku! ^____~

So the Kurofune episode after a second watch, still did not make sense. Not that it didn’t make sense, but there could have been a lot more to make it better.

I understand that the main plot points needed were

Yuto needs a partner to form a unit

Yuto finds Keigo

Keigo isn’t interested

Yuto says some motivating words to get Keigo thinking

Keigo comes around

Kurofune is formed

Kurofune beats Traffic Signal in the Battle Live

These are valid things that need to happen in the story. But This Was All One Episode.

A few of it was also fake deep stuff that felt like it was written by a preteen. Mostly the full out brawl stuff. I mean I guess it’s to juxtapose the boys we already know (sweet and friendly DD) and that Keigo is letting himself go, that he’s fallen so far. Or to show Yuto “saving Keigo” from his situation and “paying him back” by being his partner. Iunno

They tried really hard to make Yuto’s “Who are you?” line something. Which was my initial problem with the episode the first time I saw it. Yuto leaves DFour after being told he needs a partner, and the old men are like “he probably already has someone in mind”. Which suggests that he seeks out Keigo. But with the “who are you” line, he doesn’t even know him. Unless the “who are you” line actually means for Keigo to search within himself and actually find out who Kazama Keigo really is, but that’s not the tone I’m getting when he says it the first time. Maybe the second time. But then he says it a Third time, this time to Junya. Which, is supposed to be a “you’re nothing to me, Kurofune is superior” sort of thing, but maybe I just hate the line at that point lol

Also, my same problems with how Keigo is just automatically enrolled in DFour. He didn’t have to do an audition? Am I supposed to assume that his childhood acting skills somehow translated into singing and dancing well enough? The princely act I understand, but he was so good that it brought Kurofune’s debut a victory in the Battle Live????

And again, I get that Dorikas are a physical manifestation of a fan’s cheers. But how did it “look like Kurofune’s cheers are about to run out” but then suddenly gain a burst of cheers. Clearly they needed something for the dramatics, but come on??? Am I supposed to assume that the fans saw Yuto’s resolve and in that split second just botted some cheers for Kurofune to win?

Anyway, I know the plot point is for TraSig to lose so we can finally get DearDream but gosh.

Why am I complaining though lol I think I would have groaned if I had to sit through two episodes of Kurofune forming. Or maybe not if it was actually paced good. Who knows 🤷‍♀️

6. Favorite secondary character?

not certain if this is asking like secondary character that can still transform or a supporting cast member... ill answer to both. my favourite secondary in terms of a person who can henshin is definitely kamen rider mach! i just feel like everything he did was to appeal to my interests lol.

my favourite supporting cast... maybe its just because im seeing them again, but im a big fan of akari and onari from kamen rider ghost. i know thats two, but i just like them a lot! beyond them im a big fan of sawa and misora from kamen rider build, leaning more towards sawa i like her so so much. would feel bad if i didnt mention the supporting cast from kamen rider faiz, mari and keitaro + i... suppose only osada, lol

special shout outs to the like 4 non kr shows i have seen and my friends SUZUME from king oh and MOA from geed WEIRD GIRLS LETS GO

7. Favorite villain?

tough one... maybe recency bias, but evolto from build has to be up there. i wont get into any spoiler territory, but what they say about him is so fascinating, and the actions he takes are very deplorable, and yet hes still a very enjoyable character, without tilting too far into either direction (see: banno from drive being so over the top with his actions that its hard to like him, kuroto dan from ex-aid still doing all that but being smoothed down to this more silly version of himself that is a good guy) so it makes a lot of scenes very interesting to watch. he never stops being both fun and genuinely threatening.

18. If you could meet any actor, who would it be?

hmmm... probably tetsuya iwanaga, the actor for kuroto dan. im thinking about as logically as i can here, if i wanted to hold a conversation with a toku actor, im unfortunately no good in japanese. tetsuya iwanaga is fluent in english, and its absolutely jarring to hear sometimes. but as a follow up, i want to pick an actor that would absolutely floor everyone if i sent a picture of me standing next to them. number one on THAT list is kohei murakami for certain, but tetsuya iwanaga would probably elicit just as much of a response. but you know, dream world scenario where i dont have to worry about language barrier, id love to get any random photo with either inaba yu or junya komatsu. neither would elicit the fear response but definitely would elicit something hilarious LOL

Without further ado, thank you for watching episode 15~!

As the story of “Revice” develops more and more, you can’t help but be absorbed..

The Deadmans are falling out?! Even if they’re my enemies, it still tightens my chest.

However…

This is how we are behind the scenes!!

We fight each other when the camera rolls, but they’re actually nice kids 😌

And at last, we attempted to storm into the Deadmans’ hideout.

Karizaki-san. Impressive as always.

In order to infiltrate the hideout, the Igarashi siblings decided to call Kagerou in,,

Wait…!! Ikki!! Sakura!! While giving a rider kick to Daiji would be needed, no matter what you think about it, he’s pitiful!!! (LMAO)

It must’ve been scary, right, Daiji? *bitter smile*

Hey, Ikki. Stamping finish! Haaaaaa! My butt!!! That’s terrible!!! Sakura was also looking so excited!!!

But this was all done to locate the Deadmans’ hideout… Forgive us, Daiji… (cri)

Aside from the adorable scenes between the Igarashi siblings, their simultaneous henshin and triple rider kick were absolutely thrilling.

After infiltrating the base, we had another encounter with the Chameleon Deadman.

To avenge for Commander Wakabayashi, I will not lose to his greatest enemy. With those feelings burning inside me, I transformed. I won’t let that familiar face be used as they please.

Changing the subject into the previous 14th episode, Hiromi truly admired Commander Wakabayashi.

The Commander who didn’t talk much, but could still tell things through his back.

In the flashback scene, there was this depiction. Upon failing one of his duties, Hiromi was in great shock to the point where he couldn’t bring himself to eat. During that time, the Commander cared for him by giving him a piece of bread— albeit awkwardly.

The times Hiromi spent together with Commander Wakabayashi remain precious to him. It was thanks to the Commander that Hiromi became the person he is right now.

For every single appearances, faces, thoughts, and words of the Commander would continue to live inside Hiromi.

And so, here I am appearing before you…

Here we go again…

But this time things were pretty intense, even Demons’ body received quite the impact.

What in the world does this mean…? And yet Hiromi said, “I won’t give up, I’ll push myself through my limits.” Just how will everything unfold—!!!

There are still a lot of stuff I wanna talk about, but let’s save the fun for later! 😏 lol

(T/N) *Boke: Simply put, it means to play stupid.

Boke is the counterpart to Tsukkomi in manzai. While Boke is the "dumb" guy (usually acting unaware of sth), Tsukkomi would make remarks toward the other. Sometimes correcting them or saying stuff like "The hell are ya talkin' about?" *imagine hearing this in Kansai dialect*

...I guess Manzai wasn't that relevant here, but you can refer to this tvtropes page to learn more.

Please tell us what you think of the Japanese dub of fire emblem!! Do you have any you like or dislike?

Mercedes’s voice, done by Yumiri Hanamori, is probably my favorite change. I dislike Mercedes’s Eng voice for several reasons but her Japanese dub shoots her up into S tier easy. Super sweet and kinda breathy, she speaks very soothingly and deliberately, I love it and never skip any of her dialogue. Her little giggles give me butterflies, and the way she reacts when you propose to her? I cannot recommend you watch her S support with the Japanese dub enough. It’s very easy to come off inauthentic when the character is as loving and kind as Mercedes, but her performance absolutely sells Mercedes’s angelic nature.

Marianne, voiced by Sawako Hata, goes through a pretty dramatic change pre/post timeskip in the Japanese dub and I live for it. Seriously, listen to the very beginning of her C and A supports with Byleth (same line) and marvel at our favorite horse girl’s growth. I love the shift in her voice and it really shows a lot about how Marianne grows as a person and becomes more confident.

Hubert is played by Katsuyuki Konishi and, yes, I will simp. He just sounds so cool. That va being an intimidating bastard just does it for me even if all the roles I know him for is him singlehandedly holding the entire weight of a character who is otherwise not the coolest. It is a little goofy when you have to strain to hear him when he’s saying battle lines that are supposed to be dramatic but he sounds hot so it’s whatever. 

Claude, voiced by Toshiyuki Toyonaga, is actually pretty similar in both dubs. That is, I feel like it’s the same Claude in both languages which I really enjoy. I think both voice actors did a fantastic job and in my humble opinion do a lot to make Claude as likable and fun as he is when the writing kind of falters. Toyonaga has a really nice voice and does the playful sarcastic yet also guarded and sneaky thing perfectly.

Edelgard is played by Ai Kakuma who dials back on the mean-girl aspect of Edelgard that, for me, makes her kind of insufferable sometimes. It’s strange because I don’t like the “uwu professor I drew you a picture” aspects of Edelgard very much, but they do make a lot more sense with Kakuma’s softer, more vulnerable interpretation of the character. Overall, I do like her dubbed voice better especially when I’m playing Crimson Flower and the game obviously wants me to waifu her.

Seteth is voiced by DIO Takehito Koyasu and that is very important to me. It helps with the “can I trust this man or can’t I?” aspect of the character because of intense JJBA conditioning. He has less stick-up-the-ass dad energy, but I think it’s a fair trade. 

Leonie is voiced by Sakura Nogawa and I don’t particularly like Lenoie but can we just acknowledge that she came out on top in both dubs? Both Ratana and Nogawa have such ear candy voices. 

Simp King Alefric was voiced by Daisuke Hirakawa and this was an especially low blow. As the resident Disgusting Pervert, I have a pretty instinctual reaction to hearing his voice. I know he does a LOT of different types of roles (hearing him in Monster Hunter Stories was great) but the fact that they cast him as an unfuckable (as well as annoying, pointless, and awful) character just cuts deep. 

Yuri, played by Junya Enoki, was just strange imo. When I heard his Japanese dub voice my first reaction was “wow it’s weird they gave Yuri the voice of a shonen protagonist” and then Enoki went on to play the Prince of All Shonen Protagonists Yuuji. And Enoki is super skilled! A lot of his combat lines hit super hard. Buuuuut, it’s hard to not miss the seductive persona that his English dub gives him. Someone asked who I’d ideally recast for Yuri, Felix, and Dimitri (like... months ago... I’m so sorry lol) and I think that Mamoru Miyano doing Yuri would be great. Mamoru Miyano has a massive list of credits, but his most famous is probably Light Yagami from Death Note. He also did Hunter x Hunter’s Chrollo and Persona 5′s Ryuji. Actually, since he did Amai Mask, this would add another One Punch Man voice actor to the list. Admittedly, I’m a cringe fangirl but he's got range for sensual, serious, and goofy and gets bonus points for having a really nice singing voice which Yuri also has. Making Yuri sound more alluring and kind of secretive seems like the obvious choice for his character. I’m in no way, shape, or form in any position to suggest this change but since someone did ask there’s my single suggestion. 

Dimitri is played by Kaito Ishikawa and I am not a fan. This is a massive bias because I’ve made my love of his English dub so clear so take it with a boulder sized grain of salt but, Dimitri aside, I don't really like Ishikawa's voice, it has this nasally quality that drives me up the wall which was why I never really liked One Punch Man’s Genos. There are also a lot of performance differences that I feel detract from Dimitri’s character but that is even more subjective because they feel like such different characters. Ishikawa goes for a less manic, wild sound in favor of a more “restrained” interpretation of Dimitri’s feral voice. The Event “Village Tragedy (Blue Lions)” is the scene that showcases this difference perfectly.

Felix’s voice is done by Yuichi Jose and I don’t think it suits him. He has a very low, kinda cool voice and I just... I dunno, it feels contradictory to how I interpret Felix’s character. English dub Felix gets this, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, mall ninja sort of inflection especially early on in the game because he’s trying too hard and I think it’s so damn endearing to hear that harden until you realize that, no, he’s just a broken person putting up a shield to deflect emotion. But it also feels unfair to make direct comparisons when the two voice actors are doing two different things. 

Anyway, those are characters I have strong opinions about. Overall, I far prefer the English dub but there are definitely pros and cons to each and it’s fun to listen to both. I have respect for all of the va’s involved with this project because of the sheer amount of lines they recorded and it’s really a matter of opinion as to which voices and interpretation of the character is preferred.

Psyduck's been one of my favorite Pokemon since I was a kid (my other favorites include the Marill line and most of the water starters).

I actually started liking him because of Misty's Psyduck in the anime- I just thought it was cute, derpy, and hilarious. And it was always awesome when its headache got bad enough that it started kicking ass. I was so pleased to see it having become a competent battler by Sun and Moon and basically becoming Misty's signature Pokemon, replacing Togepi (which for some reason I never really liked at all)

My sister and my dad also like Psyduck too. My sis literally has 4 different Psyduck plushies, she's obsessed with them, and we have a lot of inside jokes about stuff we made up about Psyduck when we were kids. My dad's buddy in Pokemon Go is a Psyduck.

Juju Talk Episode 1 Highlights

My favorite parts from the first episode of JJK’s podcast, Juju Talk! Enoki Junya (Itadori’s VA) and Uchida Yuuma (Fushiguro’s VA) are such a fun pair to listen to, haha! I figured I’d post this since Yuuma will be back again as a guest for the upcoming episode.

Highlights

Episode intro: Itadori tells Fushiguro pets aren’t allowed in the studio - Megumi’s response? “DIVINE DOGS AREN’T PETS!” haha

Both Junya and Yuuma complain about how difficult it is to say “jujutsu”, “jujutsushi”, and other related words - they get nervous (doki doki) every time they have to say “Jujutsu Kaisen” (lol)

They both find Itadori amazing for having swallowed Sukuna’s finger, Yuuma remarked that it reminded him of how magicians would swallow knives as a magic trick

Junya said at first glance Itadori seems like a straightforward and simple character, but even now there’s still parts of him he doesn’t understand or actions he took that were surprising

For example, he had the most difficulty during the scene where Itadori realizes how weak he is and admits he doesn’t want to die against the special grade in episode four, his initial plan was more of a yelling tone and acting pained but the direction asked for him to calm down during his monologue so it took a little time to adjust his state of mind (lol)

Yuuma found Fushiguro actually a little bit easier to understand than Itadori - he’s a logical character who has lived his life by weighing and making decisions, a person who spends a lot of time thinking

He adds that Fushiguro has his own “defense plan” to protect his heart (awww)

Even though he looks like a cool and level-headed character and the opposite of Itadori, Yuuma saw Fushiguro as a strongly emotional character from the very beginning with his request to save Itadori, based off Fushiguro’s declaration that it was his personal feelings - he saves the people he wants to save

Junya thought that actually, on the contrary, Fushiguro is the more emotional one compared to Itadori

Both found it notable that the main characters Itadori, Fushiguro, and Kugisaki had so much time away from each other (nine episodes!) during the first cour - the VAs didn’t meet together much in the studio

Yuuma guessed that regarding Fushiguro’s reaction to Itadori’s “surprise” return, probably his first thought was just “Hah?” and trying to process the fact Itadori was alive before any feelings of happiness haha

Junya noted how Fushiguro was the first one to notice a change in Itadori after his return and thinks that not just Fushiguro, but Itadori and Kugisaki are really good at sensing and reading each others’ hearts and emotions

Both Junya and Yuuma are in consensus that they don’t understand Gojou at all (LMAO)

Junya said the recording studio was dangerous because of so many JJK-related snacks and refreshments like Kikufuku Mochi, collab Puccho, and free Home Run Bar ice cream (they want JJK to do a collab someday with the baseball ice cream haha)

Q&A time!

When asked what kind of jujutsushi he would be, Yuuma said he always wanted to fly but maybe not like Momo, perhaps transforming into Nue? But then they both agree it wouldn’t be very JJK-like nor shikigami-like haha

Junya would want to be a jugonshi like Toge so he could become the strongest VA ever and pass auditions and do one-takes easily, but then worried about the potential heavy repercussions so he said he would just use it only for important work haha

Junya and Yuuma were asked from when or what kind of situation do they personally emit negative emotions (so that they become curses like JJK)

Junya said it’s when he’s hungry (LOL) - when he was little, his older brother would often steal his food and those were the only times he’d get really pissed haha

Yuuma says it’s when he gets personally frustrated with himself when he forgets things or his abilities don’t match up to what he wants, like today (the day of the recording), he forgot lost his key to his home and called his landlord right before the podcast recording (omg)

When asked if Junya and Yuuma read the original source material to prepare for the audition, they both agree that anime and manga are very different mediums and that factors in when portraying a character’s current state of mind

Yuuma said he tries not to read too much ahead of any source manga (just one or two volumes) when recording for an anime because it limits and ties down his approach to a character, making it difficult to change later

Junya agreed that he also does his best not to take a lot from the manga into the anime, such as adding things when they shouldn’t be added

He also claimed he has precognition when it comes to predicting whether he passes or fails auditions right haha

He said for JJK he wasn’t certain but he was 50% sure like how weather forecasts do it

Yuuma’s reaction: “Eh? Don’t just say noncommittal things like that!” (LOL)

It’s so interesting because I find Enojun’s personality (so chill) similar to Fushiguro while Yuuma’s is much more like Itadori’s (the boke vibe he gives off is hilarious). It really does make me appreciate both VA’s ranges when acting.

GIRRLLL, JJK is getting a stage play. You get to see Yuuji and Megumi in the flesh (officially). If either are as adorable as Oikawa's stage actor, I'll literally watch the entire thing without understanding a word.

I READ ABOUT THAT TODAY!! Can they just let Junya Enoki be Yuuji please!? He's cute af, and his voice makes me MOAN!! Come on maaaannn you are already a voice actor!! Now be a stage actor too! DO IT FOR ME!! LMAOOO. But fr I'm always kinda scared of something like that because what if it sucks? What if the actors don't portray the character the way you want it? It's just a stage play, though, so I'm totally fine with it. I will probably never get to see it anyways. I would hate to see a real tv adaption though lol. BUT IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES FOR THAT STAGE PLAY! What if the actors ship Itafushi?!! (Who am I kidding? They probably do! Or at least they know how popular the ship is and are willing to do fanservice) Please make it extra gay, please please please! That's my biggest wish!

My Heart was not Prepared: A Laughing Under the Clouds Rant about how Handsome Renn Kiriyama is

So my hotel room has this pay to view service and Laughing Under the Clouds is one of the movies so I paid a thousand yen to watch it because Renn Kiriyama...

And gdi I was not ready for how pretty he is. Like.

Okay, he should not be that pretty when he’s about to fake offing himself. Because that’s what happened in the original manga- Shirasu fakes his death, and got a follow up chapter all to himself.

And yeah, I’m hoping we get that follow up with Renn as the lead.

The first time you see Hiromi like this, it's the first time he came over. It was raining and you're already greeted to his beautiful sight under the showering rain and his shirt clinging to his chest. He's a gentleman of course and had given you his coat to ensure you kept dry. He's using your shower now as you grab spare clothing from the room.

You knock once, twice, thrice and softly murmur, "Excuse me..." And then you open the door and Hiromi is half staring at you and you're staring at him. Your eyes wonder his body, his scars, an Adonis within your reach but could never grasp through the glass of the shower door - it's blurry but you can see enough.

You yelp with bright blushes and turn away as Hiromi also turns to try and hide himself (kind of giving you a full view of his ass but OH WELL) and sputter out sorry after sorry as does he! It's a cacophony of apologies and you place his clothes down on to the toilet seat before running outta there as fast as you can.

It's uh...awkward when Hiromi does come out of the bathroom but the first thing you say to him is, "You're beautiful, Hiromi," and you just watch him fucking melt and die... oh honey this is husband material right here

Hakumyu Kitan Thoughts!

I still haven’t been able to watch Reimeiroku completely, so this will also include my thoughts on the new cast. Like many of you out there, I’m still kinda attached to the old cast, it’s going to be some big shoes to fill in. :’<

1. Serizawa’s face always reminds me of Scar from Lion King lol.

2. Matsuda Gaku is a very beautiful Hijikata. Probably fits the definition of an ikemen. That smirk too mmm...

3. Different Yaisa choreography... :’< I miss Ikeda Junya wuuu.

4. It’s hard to compare with Hirose Daisuke’s Okita, but I think Aramaki Yoshihiko has his own flavour. Less playful, less mad, but more serious and proud. I like the excessive twirling of his sword though, hehe. Still the drama queen, of course.

5. We’re back to that awkward phase where Sanan doesn’t exist, and no one is explaining wtf is a Fury and the Water of Life and what’s its impact on the Shinsengumi.

6. While we’re on that topic, some of the story elements and narratives changed too. It was kinda odd at times (e.g. Kodou asking Okita to lead his Fury army). Some others (e.g Hijikata’s near-death conversation with Serizawa) are interesting adds.

7. The new KINNNIKU song has A+ choreography and A++ kinniku mmmmm.

8. Yamazaki gets featured quite abit. :’> *press F*

11. Harada route preview! I liked how they slide it in, kinda like Heisuke’s interactions with Chizuru in Kazama-hen. But seriously,  Sano’s short wig is bugging me... >< Why is if flipped out like that? How is it that they make it look bad again? orz Such injustice when he had such a cool scene. :’<

12. I thought the ending stage with the Sakura background was really beautiful. And all the Shinsengumi in their Eastern costumes. And here I am, thinking about how many Sakura petals they had to prepare to scatter all over the stage for that entire sequence. xD

13. Demmit Kitan, I DIDN’T ASK FOR THIS AGAIN. Just when I thought it’s the Hijikata route, it’s Kazama-hen / Yukimura route again. QAQ

Hakumyu Kitan wasn’t too bad! It was a good introduction to the new cast, for me. It was a nice mix of old and new songs. Of course I miss the old cast and old songs (boku wa ken da~), but things must change. Meanwhile, I shall keep watching Hakumyu and believe in the things that doesn’t change (hahaha).
