Chapter 27: Not Yet
The next week was a blur.
You and Sabo had no intention of going back home, and so you utilized the facilities at Sabo’s job and video conferenced with your parents. Considering the topics you were going to discuss, you’d done so with lawyers present for both yourselves and your parents.
Sabo took lead, and his boss, a man so imposing you were intimidated, supported him. Between the two you didn’t have to say much of anything.
With the recording in your possession you didn’t have to divulge the details of your curse, only that you were. Even then the decision was made to bring it up because you and Sabo wanted your parents to release both of you without contest. After all, if one of their children spontaneously showed signs of being cursed, then it was very possible it could happen to Sabo as well.
Which was completely impossible, but the agreed story for public release meant not disclosing the fact that your parents had been poisoning you your entire life. So it was agreed that you had simply manifested your abilities after a local doctor had miraculously cured your chronic illness. For his own safety the doctor’s name wouldn’t be released to the public, Law would never know a moment’s peace if that happened, and might even be pressed into government service.
In the end, you and Sabo were struck from the records. No longer did either of you have any association with your parents, at least not legally. You didn’t have the perks and benefits of nobility, but you also didn’t have the responsibilities or risks from it either.
Technically it would give your father more leeway to have you murdered without facing any consequences, but Sabo warned that harm to either one of you would release the entire drama to the public. People wouldn’t only know that your parents had tried to have you killed, they’d know about the poisoning and suppression - that your parents knew you’d been cursed since you were born.
How nobles could be cursed.
One of the biggest secrets the government wanted to keep out of the public arena and it would be their fault. There was no way the dragons would let something like that go. Their hold on the world was already far more fragile than they wanted it to be, and a large secret like that coming to light could be the start of a revolution.
You were in calls for hours every day for the whole week.
It seemed like something that should’ve been so cut and dry, but instead it was a legal marathon. Sabo held up well throughout the whole thing, working his full shift outside the time spent in the room. His boss seemed more exhausted by it all than he was.
Maybe it was just harder on you because all you could do was sit there, watching and listening as everything unfolded. It did so quickly, and so slowly at the same time. The stress of it all was the worst, but you felt that the bigger reason was that, no matter the outcome, your brother would get what he wanted.
Revolution.
You and Sabo had talked about the world and how broken it was for years. You had childish conversations about it as children, trapped in a life and world neither of you wanted. A conversation that started in a hospital, as you sat besides Sabo’s bed, talking to him while he healed from wounds earned for having the wrong friends. A desperate conversation, born of pain and anger.
Anger you both carried, though yours didn’t quite burn with the same ferocity.
It wasn’t something you could be a part of. At least not then. It wasn’t anything you saw happening in your life time. At least not then. You were too sickly, too frail, and too doomed to a short life, there was little you could do, and even less that you could hope for.
At least back then.
On the bright side, every long day in the office with Sabo, ended in a quiet night at home with Ace. The more you tangled into his arms after dinner, the more comfortable it got. For you and Sabo. More than not the couch turned into a pile with you, Ace, and Luffy in it, and Sabo putting a blanket over all of you before going back to reading.
Luffy was heavy, far too heavy for his size, but you figured it had to do with his curse. He’d turned himself into a massive balloon when you’d jumped off the roof with Ace, and that meant his normal form had to be incredibly dense.
It was probably best not to over think it.
Especially not when you could turn into such a massive, and comparatively tiny, bird. One that survives being burned alive.
Curses were certainly wild and varied things.
And powerful.
You tilt your head back. Currently you’re laid out on Ace’s lap, he’s napping - laid back against the couch, face up to the ceiling. Luffy’s feet are at the top of the couch, his back on your legs, head dangling off the side of the couch as he snores.
“Cursed could take over the world.” You say flatly.
Sabo doesn’t look away from what he’s reading, but you know he’s listening.
“Ace is made of fire. You three helped overthrow a king.”
“Who was also cursed.” Sabo adds.
“Mm. Opposing ideals and freedom of will does put a damper on the idea of a unified front of a socially oppressed minority rising up with great success.” You admit, brows furrowing. “Some are also marines, and cursed doesn’t mean insurmountable.”
“Indeed.”
You go quiet for a long while, looking up at the ceiling. You can feel your brother’s focus still on you, but he doesn’t say anything. Once you got the prognosis that your life would inevitably be short, you didn’t think about the future much.
At least not then.
Because of that you didn’t get too detailed when you talked to Sabo about the possibilities of revolution. You didn’t talk with the same fire and drive as you had. Eight year old you was ready to set the world on fire because of what it was putting your brother through, but eighteen year old you could only muster to assure Sabo you supported whatever he decided.
You weren’t going to be there, so you felt that you needed to stay out of it.
But now…
“Do you remember those books you read to me before you left for college?” You prompt, continuing to speak before Sabo can answer. “The young girl who was trying to save her little sister, and so she went into certain death and became the beacon for revolution against her will.” You lean back and look at him again. “I… do not want to be a tribute, but if I can be a spark…”
“It’s dangerous.” Ace says. He says it softly, but he doesn’t seem to be trying to convince you differently. Slate grey eyes hold your gaze.
“It is.” You agree, threading your fingers through his. “I wouldn’t be alone.”
Ace snorts, fingers flexing against yours reassuringly. “No, you wouldn’t.”
“Plus, I’m talking about being the spark, not the figurehead.” You clarify. “I don’t want to be King or Queen or anything like that once the dust settles.”
“Luffy could be king,” Ace offers, and all three of you look at him, sound asleep and drooling a little. Even his drool was elastic.
“… I can see it.” You say after a moment and Ace and Sabo both look at you, brows raised. “I mean, there’s something about him that draws you in. He’s completely ridiculous, but I’d follow him into hell. It scares me a little bit, but it was also what helped me adjust so fast when I moved in.”
“I… huh.” Ace starts, then stops, leaning back into the couch. Sabo’s quiet too.
“We… have to do it right.” You say after a few long minutes of silence. “You can’t level a city and expect people to cheer for you when everything’s covered in ash.”
“… Most of that is covered.” Sabo says after a moment, closing the book he was reading, coming over and sitting on the coffee table so he can face you and Ace more easily. “Dragon, my boss, is Luffy’s father. He’s also been pulling together and coordinating a resistance. It is, effectively, an army capable of revolution. It’s got infrastructure, plans for minimizing damage, effective levels of targets for sections of a given city across several dozen islands.”
You look blankly at Sabo for a long moment, blinking as your brain processes everything he’s just admitted.
“Part of the process was what led us to dealing with Doflamingo.” He clarifies.
You look over at Ace. “You’re a part of it too?”
Ace nods. “I’d say Sabo dragged us into it, but we walked in on our own.”
“Our?”
“Luffy too.” Sabo says. “The plan was to bring you into all of this after your birthday. Just because I wanted you to enjoy it.” He clarifies hastily. “Then… well, everything that happened, happened.”
“And here we are.” You say with a sheepish look.
“And here we are,” Sabo agrees, smiling.
“So, is that it then?” Ace questions, looking between the two of you. “She’s on board and we’re going to move into the next part?”
Sabo’s gaze shifts from Ace to you, the question in his eyes. “After your birthday, lil’ spark?”
You grunt. “It seems selfish to celebrate my birthday, and then begin a revolution.”
“Well, it’ll be your first birthday.” Luffy mumbles, yawning before he slides off the couch and crumples into a pile of limbs on the floor. The lack of weight against your legs is nice, but you already miss the warmth. He takes a minute to right himself, looking at you with that odd expression of his that looks through your soul.
“I’ve… I’ve had several, Luffy.” You insist, tilting your head.
“But this is the first one where you’re yourself.” He returns and you tilt your head in the other direction. “You’re not pretendin’ to be someone else anymore, yeah?”
“I wasn-.” Pausing mid-thought you look over at Sabo in panicked realization.
“Lu, please don’t break my sister.” Sabo sighs, tapping the tip of your nose with his finger. “This is, at the least, your first birthday as a free civilian.” He offers up, getting your attention and pulling your thoughts out of the tiny turmoil Luffy had created.
“I’d like to celebrate your birthday before everything gets complicated. It’ll be the first one you’ve had since me an’ Lu’ve known you.” Ace offers, rubbing your cheek with the palm of his hand. “Plus you’ll need some time to learn about haki and how to use it.”
“Haki?” You tilt your head back to the other side. You feel like a small confused animal, and you’re barely keeping up with all the new information.
“Some of the older books call it Ki, or Dragon’s Flow.” Sabo explains. “Father called it rubbish, but it’s very much legitimate. Anyone can learn it, but much like when it comes to any subject, the degree to which you master it varies.”
“Me… learning to fight?” You scoff at the idea. “I couldn’t- I…” You pause and look up at Ace. “I could.”
He smiles, and you feel your curse bristle, the way it reacts to the sun if you’re not paying attention to it. “You could.” He agrees.
“I could go hiking, and camping, properly, for a week!… I could learn archery!” You gasp, putting your hands to your face as the realization sinks in. “I can do whatever I want.” You whisper the words in awe behind your hands.
You knew, when you were freed from your mother’s poison, that there was so much more you’d be able to do. But your initial thoughts had been so limited; staying up all day, not having to rest after walking for a few minutes, being able to do jumping jacks or maybe even a pushup without getting dizzy.
But since you’d been freed you’d gone camping over night, and endured a week of marathon legal meetings, and still managed to cook and clean. You were keeping pace with Luffy and his energy and he wasn’t toning himself down around you anymore. You even had sex, and it didn’t hospitalize you or leave you sore for weeks.
You actually slept really good after that and were ready to try and do cartwheels in the hall, but you didn’t actually know how to do cartwheels.
“Luffy.” You look over Ace’s legs, down at the tangle of limbs on the floor. “Teach me how to do a cartwheel.”
“Luffy can’t teach you ha— wait, a cartwheel?” Ace lets go of your hand, letting you off the couch as you and Luffy run out the back door.
“Yeah, I’ve never done it!” You laugh, turning around in a circle to smile at Ace before darting away to catch up with Luffy.
“I’ll make something to eat.” Sabo says, getting up off the coffee table. “I think those two will be at it until my dear sister tires, and I don’t know that she knows how long that’ll take anymore.”
“Finding out might be half the reason.” Ace admits. “I’ll make sure she doesn’t get swept up in Lu’s enthusiasm.”
Ace stops, walking into the kitchen with Sabo before heading to the backyard. “Hey. We’re gonna have to be more careful too, ya know?”
“We’ve always been as careful as we can be.” Sabo tilts his head, and Ace thinks he looks a lot like his sister when he does that. “Haven’t we?”
“Maybe. Sure, I don’t know, but look…” Ace looks around uncomfortably for a moment before finally meeting Sabo’s eyes. “I hope I’m wrong, but I think if she loses us, she’s literally gonna fly into the sun. We gotta be careful with this whole revolution thing.
“And maybe it’s arrogant as fuck for me to think it, but I mean, I think she really needs something to anchor her here. Here here.” He adds, pointing to the ground and watching Sabo’s expression slide from confusion to understanding. “I know you don’t want to go through this whole save-the-world thing just to watch her fly away to her death.”
“… Yeah. Okay. I’ll talk to Dragon about it. There’s always going to be risk, but you’re not wrong.” Sabo heaves a heavy sigh. “Every curse has a drawback, and something like that is…”
“She’s gonna be on par with Marco, I bet.” Ace murmurs, leaning back enough to look out the back porch and make sure you and Luffy are still within sight.
“I wonder what his drawback is.” Sabo muses idly, already working on pulling out ingredients for a meal.
“I’m sure he has one, and I don’t even know that Pops knew.” Ace grins. “But alright, I’m going to head out back and keep an eye on the kids.”
Sabo grunts as Ace heads off to find you already covered in grass stains and dirt. Luffy was clean comparatively, but he was doing cartwheels with all the ease of walking. Ace was pretty sure the bits of grass he had on him were because he just rolled around in the grass with you whenever you wiped out.
“Ace! Ace, look!” You call out as he steps onto the back porch and do a cartwheel. It’s stilted and a little clunky still, but your hands are in the grass when your feet are in the air and you end up back on your feet when you bring them down.
“Lu’ll have you somersaulting off buildings and giving Sabo grey hairs by morning.” Ace teases and you laugh as you do another cartwheel. It’s smoother than the last, maybe because you’re laughing and not over-thinking it, but he could watch you do cartwheels until the sun came up.
“Join us, Ace!” Luffy calls out, stretching out his limbs and doing a wide, nearly perpetual circle of cartwheels. You watch him and shake your head.
“Yeah, I can’t do that.”
“No one can,” Ace scoffs, coming down and draping his arms around your shoulders. “You wanna learn how to do back flips?”
“Somersaults!” Luffy comes to a stop in front of you both, his rubbery limbs snapping back into place easily. “She should start with somersaults.”
“Listen to you taking the safe route.” Ace scoffs.
“She didn’t get to be all like, bendy as a kid,” Luffy huffs, looking away from Ace and toward you. “You don’t even know how ta’ fall right.”
Your brow furrow. “There’s a right way to fall?”
Grinning, Ace steps up in front of you, putting his hands out like he’s going to dance. In your confusion you accept his hands, and he does, in fact, dance around with you. The movement is fluid and easy, and you’re able to follow along easily.
“In love and war, mi palomita.” He says cheekily before literally sweeping you off your feet and using the flow of the lazy dance to let you fall. There’s a moment of shock on your face, but you trust Ace enough you just let yourself fall without tensing or flailing. It’s a soft fwhump as you land in the cool night grass, and he smiles down at you. “Lesson one is that you definitely don’t wanna tense up, so good j-ERF!”
Luffy tackles Ace, turning the last part of his praise into a grunted sound as the two of them go down into the grass. Absolute chaos erupts as the two keep trying to give you pointers on how to fall, and escape holds, while constantly pining and getting pinned by each other. Ace had the height, and a little more experience, but Luffy’s flexibility easily overcame the things that were working against him.
By the time Sabo told the three of you to come in and eat you were all covered in damp grass, dirt, and a few bruises from the rough housing. Laughing like idiots the entire time.
It was everything you never thought you’d have. A warm home, close friends, a happy brother, and someone who was almost more to you than you were to yourself. Certainly events on the horizon, ones you would likely even bring to fruition with your own hands, were going to risk a lot of the perfection you had right now.
So you resolved, in the middle of an impromptu midnight meal, surrounded by the impressive cacophony of just four people, that you would enjoy tonight. You would enjoy the next few weeks and revel in the celebration of your birthday, and the pleasures of your love.
Revolution was a worry for another time. Another story.
Right now you were whole, happy and hale.

Thanks for the tag lol I'm going to share a snippet from the Ch. 7 of Just Like Fire:
Sanji swung his leg out and his heel smacked into the base of the enormous tree in front of him. Hours ago, he searched the island for the largest tree he could find. Once he stumbled upon it, he kicked it with all his might. He barely made a dent in the bark. Since that first kick, Sanji had attacked the tree trunk over and over. The sun passed over him. It sank into the horizon. Fireflies floated around him and owls hooted from their perches. But still, Sanji released kick after kick into the base of the tree. Pain screamed through his leg muscles. His thighs, calves, even his bones begged for a rest. But he ignored it; biting clean through the filter of his cigarette as he grit his teeth against the urge to stop.
Tagging: @skypiea and @dandunn if you'd like to join! No pressure!! And if anyone else wants to do this, feel free to!!

Here y'all, have an excerpt from the Ace x Reader story that has taken over my attention the last few days.
“I’m not going to ask for permission or something archaic like that, I need some logistical help.” Ace says, his face going pink.
Sabo smiles. “Sure, but, uh… pants?” He prompts. You and Ace both look down and realize Ace is only in boxers.
It’s a little less that he’s just in boxers, and a little more that the boxers have a phrase on them.
“In case of fire, pull out hose-!” The words left your mouth and comprehension hit you at the same time. You can feel the heat in your face as you turn away to hide your embarrassment – and stop yourself from continuing to stare at his crotch.
Ace’s face is in his hands, and he’s red down to his shoulders, too mortified to move. “Gift.” He says with a groan. “They were a gift from Thatch.”
“Pants.” Sabo asserts, and Ace manages to unroot himself and go into his room to get pants.

Chapter 26: Sparks
You barely even had to look at Sabo when you arrived home and he said something about needing to run errands, grabbing Luffy by the collar and telling him he was going to help.
“We’ll be a couple hours.” He said with an apologetic tone, even as Ace’s face turned a deeper red.
You weren’t sure how grateful you were for Sabo’s understanding, but you didn’t want to dwell on it and miss your opportunity. Your fingers were laced through Ace’s and, with your heart pounding in your ears, you led him to the door of your room.
“I…” Your throat dries instantly as you try to talk, the heat in your face so warm you were sure you were catching fire in places.
Ace brushes his hand over your hair, flinging aside white flames with a soft expression. “Are you sure?”
You struggle to keep your eyes on his face, but you nod. “I am.”
“I can wait.” There’s a smile on his face, pink in his cheeks, and a flicker of desire in his eyes.
“I… can too, but...” You say softly, reaching out to him, putting a hand against his chest. “I have no idea what tomorrow will bring. I don’t know how my parents will react, I don’t know what kind of impact it’ll have. After everything,” your gaze shifts up to meet his. “I know I want this.”
Fire rolls up Ace, and he puts his hand on your shoulders. “Would it… can we do this in my room?”
You tilt your head, but then press your lips together, trying to suppress a laugh. “Fire proofed?”
“Fire proofed.”
Nervous giggles and fluttering hearts make your steps light as Ace leads you to his room. The heat and tension mixed with a levity you cherish as much as his warmth, woven between your fingers.
Leaning against his door he pulls you close, pressing your chest against his with one arm, leaning down and kissing you. The smile on his lips breaks the soft kiss, and you lean up onto your tiptoes to kiss him back, causing his fingers to flex against your back.
Your fingers curl around his collar, holding onto him even as you pull yourself up, parting your lips and letting his tongue in. The heat rising between you is tempered by the soft smacking from Ace’s other hand as he fumbles to find the handle to his own door, a smile breaking across his lips when he finds it. Dipping low enough to turn the knob he bumps the door open as his arms wrap around you and lift you up.
Your legs are wrapped around his hips by the time the door closes, leaving you two in the dark room, and your attention on his lips. Ace’s fingers flex against your thighs as your fingers slip into his hair, the soft hum that bubbles up his chest shivers against you.
He sets you on the bed, the soft groan of springs as he stands up straight enough to pull his shirt off.
The act itself was almost too much. The dark of the room wasn’t absolute, your eyes adjusted to the diffused moonlight from outside, and the soft glow of the clock by his bed. The meager illumination was smeared against the lines of his muscles as his body moved.
Tossing the shirt aside, Ace grins down at you as your fingers press against his abs.
“You think you’d be used to seeing me shirtless.” He muses, and you feel the blood rush to your face.
“It’s… a little different right now.” Clearing your throat you pull your hand back but Ace grabs it. You could pull away if you wanted, but he brings your hand to his lips, kissing your knuckles, before turning it aside and pressing a kiss inside the palm of your hand.
The shivered gasp that slips from your lips makes him smile before he presses another kiss against your wrist. Your toes curl as the errant pleasure slips down your arm. Somehow you felt like you were losing some unspoken battle, but when the next kiss was further down the inside of your arm all you could do was grip the bedding with your free hand and sigh.
“It’s… ahhmmm…” You squirm as he pulls your arm straighter before pressing a kiss into the crook of your elbow. You squirm harder, the oddly pleasant feeling skittering down your arm and into your chest. “A-a-a-a-ce…” You hiss the last two letters as he sucks on the tender flesh gently, the interesting sensation causing you to grab his hair and tug, getting him to pull away.
There’s a question in his eyes that becomes a smile on his lips.
“Too much?”
The nervous laugh that escapes you is filled with an odd sense of relief when you pull your arm back and bend it a few times. “I don’t know. It wasn’t bad, but it was weird.”
Ace leans forward, kissing your cheek before trailing his kisses to your ear. “I promise everything else will feel even better.” Your whimper turns into a soft sigh as he nips at your earlobe, kisses slipping down your neck. “Relax,” he hums, tugging your shirt up slowly.
His gaze finds yours as he shifts to help you out of your shirt. Ace pauses for a moment, kissing the tip of your nose before leaning back.
“You can tell me to stop whenever, mi luz,” he assures you, tossing your shirt aside and leaning back down. Kissing your forehead, he puts his hands on your shoulders, letting you keep your hands crossed over your chest. “I’ll understand.”
“I trust you,” you say softly, looking up enough that Ace gives you a soft kiss on your lips. “I’ve never, I mean, academically I know, but um.”
Ace caresses your face. “You’re not a caged little bird anymore,” he says, kneeling between your legs, his hands against your back. “They say it feels like flying, but you’ll have to let me know if it compares afterward.”
He tugs at your pants. “Stand up, darlin’.”
Ace leans back a little as you stand, and you put your hands over your face when you realize what he’s at eye level with. He steadies you, one leg, and then the other and gets your pants out of the way. When your thigh presses against his face for balance you’re worried for a split second that you’re just going to pass out.
Hot hands hold onto your lower back as Ace kisses you just above the band of your panties. Letting out a shaky breath, you put a hand on top of his head, and one over your mouth as he moves and presses another kiss into your skin. His fingers curl around the band and he begins to tug.
Both your hands are in his hair.
“Ace, Ace, Ace,” you gasp his name, unsure of what you mean to say, but the impending action is scrambling your mind.
“Need me to stop?” You can feel him look up from your hands in his hair and you shake your head. He kisses your stomach again, tugging your panties a little lower. “Hang in there,” he teases, dragging them down further slowly. There’s barely anything left for them to cover at this point, the fabric slipping down the curve of your ass.
You want to chastise him for teasing you like this, but the anticipation has your entire body heated.
The next kiss causes you to suck in a breath, legs and body tensing and Ace pulls your underwear down far enough to expose everything. He presses his face into your thigh again, working the panties down one leg and then the other with far more speed than just a moment ago.
Ace grins when you have a hand over your crotch. From the sound of your breathing and the shivering hand still in his hair, he figures it’s more to do with being able to continuing standing, than you not wanting him to do more. Leaning forward he kisses the back of your hand, making you shiver.
“Go on and sit, pajarito.” He offers, hands on your legs as you sit down on the edge of the bed. “Lay back for me.”
Laying back, you try to relax as Ace spreads your legs open gently. Kisses against the insides of your thighs pull soft moans from you, making you squirm a little. His hold on your legs was firm, but not painful, and when his hands shifted, pressing against your thighs, you reached down, slipping your fingers between his. Holding his hands as the two of you held your legs open.
“It might feel weird,” he forewarns, his breath hot against your folds, voice lost into your skin. “But it’ll feel really good.”
You nod, fingers tightening against his.
The feel of Ace’s tongue pushing past your lips makes you gasp, back arching, and before you can catch your breath, it’s pressed flat and wide. He licks up, parting your labia with his tongue since you’re holding onto his hands. Your toes and feet curl and flex as his tongue rubs against your clit. It takes a few desperate gasps for you to get your breathing under control, and you can see flickers of light as white flames roll off your skin.
“Gods!” You cry out, hips lifting off the bed for a second as his lips wrap around your clit. It’s a rushed sensation, strange and wet and relentless.
Something in you aches for the pleasure, for the intimacy of it. Your fingers are in his hair again, unsure if you need to pull him in, or pull him up, but for now you just hold on, grounding yourself in the mess of hair. Ace wastes no time using his hands, moving them up your thighs and spreading you open with his thumbs. He leans in deeper, moaning into you, the vibrations short circuiting you for a second.
“It’s - something - it’s, buh-building, Ace, Ace!” There’s panic in your voice, you trust him, but you’ve never done this before. You’ve never been healthy enough for something so intense. The few times you tried for yourself you were exhausted before it ever reached this point.
“Don’t fight it,” Ace murmurs soothingly. “It’s okay, I’m here.”
“Please, it’s - I don’t kn-know what’s guh-gonna happ— Happen! Don’t stop!” You gasp. The pleasure is intense, but it feels like you’re chasing after something and you want to know.
Your gasping moans are broken up only when you exalt Ace’s name and cry out to the gods, though it’s only another minute before your body tenses. The pleasure snaps up from between your thighs and jolts through your body. It’s a surge, a rush, and a jolt all in one, and it chases the air out of your lungs. For a second it’s terrifying, overwhelming and uncontrollable, but the fear is just for a split second and the pleasure soaks into you quickly.
The heat of Ace’s fingers on your legs, the sweet pleasure of his lips against your spasming clit, are grounding as you twitch and shiver, drawing in heavy breaths and sinking into the bedding. Ace slows down, a few licks pulling broken sighs from you before he kisses just above your mound.
You twitch and sigh from the soft kiss, the action shifting into something warm and relaxing as he works his way up your stomach. His kisses travel between your breasts, his teeth tugging at your bra even though he leaves it in place, until he’s pressing soft kisses against your lips, body caged over yours. There’s barely any of you left on his lips, but the scent is something you understand.
“It felt really good.” You murmur, Ace smiling in response before he kisses you again.
“More?” He kisses your cheek, nuzzling into the crook of your neck. “We can stop here.”
“More,” you reply, fingers trailing over his skin. “I’m… it all feels kind of fuzzy, but I’m not tired.”
“Fuzzy’s good.” His teeth drag against your skin before he pulls a bra strap aside and kisses the skin it was covering.
Your hands are on his shoulders as he slowly pulls the strap down, his kisses moving closer to the curve of your breast. You can feel his eyes on you, even if it’s hard to focus with his other hand moving between your thighs.
Pulling the bra aside entirely he licks your nipple and slips a rough finger over your clit at the same time, making you hiss in a breath again. You shiver beneath him, as he looms over you. His gaze on you is impossible to miss now, dark eyes watching everything that crosses your face.
Slowly the wet finger presses in, and sinks inside you. Your hands tightening on his shoulders, your legs open wider without his help or command, heat rushing up to your face. The sure look on Ace’s face is both comforting and flustering, and you were finally able to look away when he pulled his finger out before pushing it back in.
“Hang in there,” he murmurs, leaning down and kissing against your neck as he fucks you with his finger. The wet sound seems too loud to your ears, but a tug at your bra redirects you a little.
Ace is kissing and licking your nipple while his finger keeps working inside you. It feels good and you can feel it more clearly when he’s teasing your breasts. Moving over to your other breast he pauses for a moment, watching you as he eases a second finger inside you. You can feel the stretch, a brief, fleeting sting, but you’re so wet and lost in the attention you don’t even hiss against it.
“Good girl,” the words are so quiet you’re not sure you heard him correctly, but his tongue against your skin again shatters any words you could think to say. Your fingers are leaving red marks on his skin, but Ace could care less. You could be scratching him bloody and he wouldn’t miss a beat right now.
He knew he cared, knew he was falling in love… maybe even knew he was already there, but the sounds you made. The way you tasted. How you looked at him. It was addicting. Beautiful and fleeting, he wanted the moments to last forever.
The way flames shivered off your skin. The small sparks that danced in the air from the heat in your breath. The soft sting - pain, but not painful - of your desperate sparks overwhelming what he thought was his immunity to fire. Being consumed by you was alluring, to be the one consumed instead of the one who seemed to do nothing but consume.
But he couldn’t succumb to your flames.
Leaving you alone like that would be unforgivable.
Straightening up, Ace pulls his fingers from you. The sweet build up of pleasure has you hazy all over all again, but you look up as he’s undoing his belt.
“Can you sit up, love?” He questions softly, and you nod.
As you sit up, he pulls his boxers down, freeing his fully erect cock. For a moment you think you’re going to get a crash course in oral, but he pulls a condom from his dresser. Ace sits down next to you, putting the rubber on and urging you to move. With a smile and a few muttered instructions, he’s guiding you until you’re straddling his lap.
Hot hands on your back again, keeping you steady in his lap, slip down to your hips.
“You took my hat.” He hums, voice soft against your skin.
You flinch at the words, your face heating up, but now you knew why you were like this. “Takin’ the hat means you have to ride the cowboy.” You can feel his cock twitch against your leg.
“It’s better this way.” He says, helping to line you up. “Take it slow. It shouldn’t hurt, if it does ease up and then sink down slower, ‘kay?”
Nodding you put your hands on his shoulders again. You were pretty much face to face with him like this, and if not for the relative dark of the room you might have lost your nerve to embarrassment.
The tip of his cock eases into you and you hide your face in the crook of his neck, whimpering into his shoulder. Your arms wrap around him like he’s a lifesaver as you sink a little lower.
The physical pleasure is almost nothing compared to how emotional it feels. You can barely hold onto your thoughts, but just being so tangled together with him is a rush.
“Can you lean back for me, (Y/N)?” His voice is barely a whisper, and the sound of your name pulls you from your haze enough that you manage to do as he asks. “Thank you, I really wanted to see your face.” He explains, kissing you as he helps to guide you again.
“Embarrassing,” you whimper, holding onto his shoulders, almost pushing against him so you don’t lean too far forward. “It’s embarrassing, to… to be watched.” Your words slipped into a moan as you took in more of Ace. Breathing out you sunk lower, eyes on his lips, watching his tongue slip over them before he gnawed the bottom one a little.
“You’re so beautiful.”
You whimper, looking up, catching his gaze and nearly crying. “I don’t… know what to say,” you gasp, shivering as the last bit of his cock pushes in and fills you up. You’re on the verge of crying, but aren’t sure why.
“I love you,” you practically sob, and Ace leans forward, kissing the tears that slip down your cheeks. “I love you.” Leaning forward you cling onto him, your declarations still falling from your lips.
“I love you too,” he turns his head enough to kiss the side of yours and grips your hips with his hands. “Mi luz, tell me if we gotta stop, okay?”
You nod. “I will, I will, but please, Ace, please don’t stop.” You kiss his neck as he shifts your hips, moaning into his skin from the pleasure of him so deep inside you.
“I won’t, I got you, it’s okay.”
Your body trembles with each movement, it takes a few minutes for you to calm down enough to lean back again. Ace has you put your hands on his knees, leaning back so he can keep helping you ride him and kiss your breasts.
He has one hand at the small of your back, when you’ve settled into a rhythm on your own, using your hands on his knees to give you better leverage. It’s enough to support you on its own and the thumb of his free hand presses against your clit, shattering your movement as you tense and suck in a surprised rush of pleasure.
“Don’t fight it,” he murmurs, lips against your breast still as you shakily begin to move again. “I got you.”
You nod, chasing your high you can’t even think of what to say. Pleasure is already soaking into your thighs. You can feel a kind of tightness coiling with every movement. His finger against your clit, his lips on your skin, his cock throbbing inside you, everything was driving you closer and closer. The sweat on your skin is a new sensation, the deep exertion in your muscles aches, but it also adds to the building pleasure.
The pleasure starts to crest and you reach out, grabbing onto Ace, and leaning against him as he moves to meet you, holding you against his chest. He lets you grind into him, thrusting his hips up and pushing you over the edge until you’re cumming against his cock. Your fingers shiver against his skin as your entire body trembles. The sweet sounds that escape you only do for a second, before Ace is devouring them and your lips.
His hands on your thighs he pushes your high for as long as he can, his pace stuttering after a minute. His fingers flex roughly against your thighs, pushing you down and thrusting up into you deeply until you can feel him twitching inside you.
Between trying to catch your breath, you’re both still kissing one another. The fevered kisses and rough heat between you dies down into satisfied giggles.
Ace kisses the tip of your nose before leaning back. He takes you with him, making you squeak as he lands on the mattress and steadies you against his chest. The added sensation of him slipping out of you makes you gasp and he grins.
After a moment you’ve caught your breath, head resting against his chest as his fingers sweep idly down your back. “That…” your mind thinks through several words to describe it, but everything either falls short or feels painfully embarrassing to say. “Can we do that again?”
“Eh? Like… now? Or in general?”
“Yes.” You answer shortly and Ace covers his mouth, though it doesn’t stifle the laugh.
“Whenever you want, pajarito.” He muses, hand pressing into your back and keeping you pressed against his chest. “But not tonight. If you need days to recover after your first time with me, Sabo might actually kill me.”
“He wouldn’t,” you say it with laughter in your tone, but you could clearly picture the look Sabo would give you both. You had lots to do, and if it was delayed because of sex… well, your brother might truly get irritated.
“Let’s just see how you’re feeling tomorrow.” He insists, kissing the top of your head. “This might be enough to have you sore tomorrow, but it is also a good way to build up your stamina.”
Ace combs his fingers through your hair for a few moments. You can feel, and hear, his heart beating in his chest. Calm. Steady. Soothing. You could easily drift off like this and sleep the whole night, but you were going to need a shower before that.
He was apparently on the same page.
“I’ll get you cleaned up soon. I just want to lay here for a little longer.” Ace murmurs softly, fingers brushing down your back again.

How about another preview for the next chapter of Just Like Fire?
“I’m not getting strong enough,” Sanji muttered. “I’ve hit a wall with my training. I don’t feel sore anymore. I don’t feel challenged.” “That’s my fault,” Ace said. “I’ve never been trained to fight. I’m a brute in hand-to-hand combat; I'm not graceful like you. Even when you’re avoiding my arrows, there’s only so much I can do to challenge you. Once you know all my tricks, what else is there to learn?” Sanji sat up straighter, placing his free hand on Ace’s cheek. “No, no, my love. I don’t blame you for my weakness. I need to find new ways to get stronger; that’s not your responsibility.”
Thanks for the tag!! I'm tagging @skypiea and @dandunn, but again, no pressure to do it if you don't wanna!! Also anyone else who wants to do this, feel free to!!

i think ultimately the core of what irritates me about the t swift craze is that she’s constantly getting props for things that … literally aren’t true. people act like she’s self made, she is not. people act like she’s a social activist, she is not. people act like she’s constantly going to great lengths to uplift other women, she is not. like if people were just like yeah i love her music :) then okay! but it’s the constanttttt applause and praise and worshipping for things that are just patently false that really makes me feel insane
#it would be like. if someone was like ‘we LOVE phoebe bridgers and how she saves puppies from house fires’#then you google it and it’s just like one pic of her holding a dog from 4 years ago
