Ms. Museum Curator is back, looking for new pieces of art to display in the Kattleox Art Museum! A couple years ago for Valentine's Day, she needed your creations to display for an exhibit that featured a little bit of red and showed a little bit of love. This summer, her new exhibit is all about pastiche on your palette. What is pastiche? It's an artsy term that essentially means to imitate another work/artist/period. Or to just simplify it, we're talking a parody. Y'arr, ahoy me hearties! As voted by you on Twitter, the humor theme this year will be pirate-themed. Pirates have plenty of rep in the franchise, from Classic's Pirate Man, Marty and her band of pirates in Iwamoto's X manga, the Bonne family sky pirates, unused Tribe forms in Star Force, or, well…Ashe huntin' for booty.

"Stored Away" (a story idea)

Plot idea Sans au x reader One day when you were cleaning out your old drawer, you found your 2016 old fanart and fanfiction of you and sans being lovey dovely. you made this way back in middle school before you fell out of the fandom, man you were obsessed with this character and that alone made you cringed. You laughed as you made fun of yourself inside your own mind, going through the drawings and writing. Cringing at every word mistake and not very detailed parts like first meeting then straight towards dating? Kid [name] really wanted to go to the part they wanted. Even though you hated your own old writing and drawings, you were charmed by it. It gave the embarrassing feeling yes, but also made you feel nostalgic.. So you grabbed a Black shoe box and threw in the "sansxreader" trash and stored it away inside your closet. Hoping to god that nobody can ever find it and be lost in time forever. * To be more accurate, this is a common-ish phrase that best translates to "Honesty doesn't pay.", but it didn't fit well with the phrasing, so I changed it up.

** This does not read well but what she means is that Maki and Rin are also strangers, so technically, her words also apply to herself.

*** My interpretation of this part of the song is that Maki is telling to Rin that once their project is finished, so will their supposed friendship. I don't think it was meant maliciously, but rather she wanted Rin to reach out to her to stay friends. Rin's response is important, because she uses the word shinyu'u, which is like BFF but much more? Someone who knows you most. That's how she described what her dream of friendship with Maki was. And as you can see in the next parts of the song, Maki reaches out and offers her hand to Rin, singing together for the first time, yet is also the first time Maki actually says that she likes Rin. And fairly odd parents fandom at the moment has some Great ideas and fanart but it’s getting harder and harder not to want to rant as the few who seem to misinterpret Timmy Turner and his relationship with the fairies in fairy world

Heck some seem to forget what crazy rather dangerous dumb neglectful people Timmy’s birth parents happen to be from day one or fact half of dimdales treats kid Timmy quite horrible (( they ignore all the abuse that Timmy gets from

Vicky / cocker and the bully as well as ignoring all the neglect or crazy stuff Timmy’s own birth parents put him through

So while I’m sketching Cosmo and Wanda just started ranting about this

Heck for half of Timmy’s wishes are not all on Timmy

Cosmo kinda fumbles things too but people don’t want to acknowledge this (( I love Cosmo and Wanda but in the original Cosmo caused quite a few troubles)) and other reasons are from the people around Timmy at the time causing Timmy having to wish to fix it

Also if the fairies truly hated Timmy why did they have huge birthday celebrations for Timmy’s birthday hmm? You don’t do that for someone they hate!

Heck they even had a show in fairy world where they’d loved watching his life with Wanda and Cosmo before poof/ peri came into the picture

Heck Timmy managed to save the universe and fairy world and yet SOME peeps like to think Timmy was the worst kid and all those wishes were all his fault and fairies hated him???

Thank goodness this is a fictional character if he was a real kid going through all this and this wasn’t done in a sitcom comedy kind of fashion I’d say Timmy’s birth parents would be the kinda horror monster kinda parents like being as one meer touch and plants die both both of Timmy’s birth parents; heck before they had Timmy they ran a ghost hunting as well as alien hunting jobs but being as their way of getting the ghosts/ aliens was to blow up the house/ ghost or alien so of course everyone hated them for that & tried to run them out of town ( they ended up having to move from one part of dimsdale to the other side and had to change their names (apparently dad’s name was mum and mum’s name was Barnbie before they had their names change to just dad and mum like they literally choose to be called mum & dad by everyone before they even had Timmy;; it’s no wonder so many adults didn’t want to be their friends when Timmy had to wish for Wanda & Cosmo to be adult friends for his parents And then when they wanted to spend time with Timmy again instead of saying oh sorry we’re just gonna cut this dinner short we need to spend some time with our child* they go and behave like jerks to Wanda and Cosmo to the point Wanda was starting to look up Da Rules if it was ok to kill your godchild’s parents))

I’m soo surprised no one’s done horror versions of Timmy’s birth parents yet because they fit the bill

Anyway sorry for ranting about this just I feel like many seem to forget these things about Timmy’s life because the show was done in a sitcom comedy fashion so people miss the horror parts about it

I already mentioned but I've been obsessed with kbsd for a decade now actually (I got into the show in 2014) and at the time I was a very emotionally unstable teen who fled the war. Kick became my obsession because he just hit everything I loved back then.

Why I only became active in the fandom recently?

Nobody around me liked Kick back then and I didn't know english so at the time my fandom experience was just looking up fanarts on DA. Nobody to talk to and I got kinda used to that loneliness so why bother drawing anything?

I'm gonna be honest, I was super lonely then.

So fast forward to now when I finally decided to draw my boy just for myself mostly and MY INNER KID-SELF IS FUCKING ECSTATIC EVERYTIME I GET KBSD RELATED ASK!!!

I'm basically reliving my teenage years here and having the time of my life!!!

And to add - I still draw for other fandoms or original art sometimes, I just forget to post it here :p And I get some other asks that aren't kbsd related. Requests for other fandoms mostly. (I will do them I promise)

Fairy Queen/Queen Ripple(Waking up in Dreamland AU)

On DA this was the last of the gameverse refs I made for the time being & now it's the 3rd to last ref I have for now

Anyway yeah I made Queen Ripple a ref, I kind of wanted to draw her & it led to becoming a character ref. Speaking of I should probably redraw her ref one day.

I decided to for some reason draw a version of Queen Ripple when she was a kid/in a design that makes her look more like Ribbon. I don't exactly have a reason for this past using it as an excuse for her crown's design.

Also I looked her up & man a lot of people like to sneak in a pic of when she'd possessed in the bad end. Of course I have no room to argue since I did the same, I just thought I'd mention it cause past looking her up on the wiki I never looked up images of her nor fanart.

Someone made her look like Toko from Danganronpa in one pic.

For context the the crown I gave her is what her crown looks like in official art.(Funny at the time of drawing this I was really annoyed at trying to draw her crown which was the least annoying detailed thing compared to other characters like Meta Knight's armor)

The crown I gave her younger version is the crown her model in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.

For some reason I thought it'd be interesting to give her both crowns so Kirby 64 model is the crown she had when she was younger while the crown she has in artwork is the one she wears in present day.

I have no other excuses for this I'm sorry.

Summary:

Fairy Queen/Queen Ripple is the queen of Ripple Star, she's often called Ripple thanks to the planet. She is a little clumsy & nervous, though she is a good leader she is struggles with thinking of what to do in moments of panic.

Despite all this she is a lovely big sister/motherly figure to her subjects & is doing her best to make sure everything works out, though it's a little hard she tries to learn from her mistakes & fix/work on what she messed up. After the events of Kirby 64 she had been over working herself a little & struggling with nightmares, Ribbon & the other fairies of her planet eventually helped her recover along with accepting that she's not at fault for what happened & she shouldn't push herself so hard.

My mom and i use Ebay a lot and i bet that'll be the perfect site to pick up a Banapassport online, and thank you so much for giving me a suggestion where to find a Banapassport. Especially i can find some that are brand new. And i know we understand Alex could be Naive about Maxi Tune. But i know much about it since i know i have played that game a couple of times besides playing Mario Kart Aracde GP Deluxe. And for the Wendy's Meal, i bet it'll be a nice choice to have anytime you want to visit AZ as well as for trying out their theme parks.

Looks cute for Murukir to be in Chowder's form, and if Chowder is out of the show, then we can have Murukir as a substitute. Much like i how i remember on Cartoon Network, i used to see two characters taking over someone's place. Like Marvin the Martian is taking over Double D, and the Mayor from PPG is taking over Numbuh 2's Place. And even when they say, Numbuh 2 is Sick or Double D is on Vacation, but i like the idea of having Cartoon Network characters trying to take someone's place. They should've done it in Modern Cartoon Network if it weren't from that stupid CEO of WBD. He ruins everything and without Cartoon Network, i'll have to Warner Bros. in Persona 6 or Warner Bros. in Persona 5 the Phantom X. But however, i would love to see Nickelodeon do something like that saying like with Spongebob, let's say Lincoln Loud took over Squidward's place and Stimpy took over Patrick's place. Like if i rewrote Choir Boys from Spongebob, let's say Stimpy kept Spongebob Company while Squidward goes to the Men's Choir, and Spongebob and Stimpy watch Squidward perform at a Choir Concert. And let's say when Squidward was Sick and took a time away from Spongebob, Lincoln Loud is wearing Squidward's Clothes and told Spongebob and Krabs that he's taking over. But i know a lot of people would think it'll be different when it comes to Wreck It Ralph where people leave their own game or show.

2023 ART SUMMARY!!!

2023 was uhhhhhhh a year! And I made art! And I’m going to talk for a long time about everything I did month by month! Yippee!!!

JANUARY

Started off the year with my favorite skrunklies sleepy and snuggling. Then sleeping together while holding one another is so incredibly important to me, they’re so cute and I needed to draw it. Struggled with Kai’Sa’s face but I particularly like the drapery of the pillow behind them.

FEBRUARY

First off, just a simple Kai’Sa piece for the Vibes(TM) and background practice. I was also fairly miserable and when I get miserable I draw Kai’Sa being miserable as well. I love my favorite character of all time <3

Then a quick Valentine’s Day piece, soft gradient map stuff. Love my skrunklies, hopefully this year I can make something for the day that isn’t rushed

MARCH

In March I FINALLY finished my Star Guardian Kahri fic, be the light to carry me, and drew Kiko and Ina being adorable together to go along with it. They’re SO cute and people LOVE that fic. Chapter 3 ended up being a whole 20k words and every time I re-read I’m amazed that I wrote it.

A kiss for Kai’Sa’s birthday! This was actually two sketches mashed together because I had a good Kai’Sa and a good Ahri on separate attempts. Love Kai’Sa’s smile on this one.

NOW. Strong contender for my favorite piece of the year. Captioned “please don’t lose yourself,” my K/DA-verse Kassadin’s very dead wife’s ghost weighs on him, begging him to not get lost in his grief and lose sight of their daughter. Kassadin feels lost and broken without her. I love the emotions in this one, and I think the idea comes across even without knowledge of my headcanons. Love it so much.

APRIL

Full-body piece that took me all month. I just love this one so much. It’s just pure Kahri, pure love, pure joy. Pose inspired by Blake Belladonna from RWBY’s leg pop during the long-awaited Bumblby kiss. This piece just makes me so happy.

MAY

Oops! No art! Was too busy being on a (student) film set every weekend as well as dealing with classes and multiple other stressors. I did START a piece though, but wouldn’t finish it until the middle of June.

JUNE

I actually did the first sketch of the Evelynn piece in February, but I decided to revamp it in May, and then when school finally set me free I finished it, and it turned out exactly how I wanted it to. Her hair was a labor to render but I'm so so pleased with how it looks, as well as the blood. The first time I've finished a fully rendered Evelynn piece!

Naafiri is so fucking cool. Upon her reveal, I was seeing so much incredible fanart and I just needed to get in on it. The shapes and points are just so good. I used to draw dogs all the time as a kid, and my younger self would absolutely flip out at seeing this. I did this piece in one day, and I have no idea how I pulled that background off but hopefully I can do it again some day lol

JULY

Two drastically different vibes here. Realized it had been forever since I had drawn Kahri so I just wanted to make a cute summertime piece. Their hands should be bigger and it bugs me but this is still really cute, I missed my girls dearly.

And then my very very sad man Kassadin being very very sad about his very very dead wife. This is what I call his phase 2 design, when he's at the peak of his grief (spiraling, as emphasized by the background) and feels just so sad and alone. In my head this and the March piece are part of a series that I hope to continue.

AUGUST

Just one piece that took me all month because I was quite busy in August, and Runeterra Kahri pieces take forever, but as I always say, it's always worth it. This pose comes from mellon_soup on instagram, who makes a lot of really great pose references for artists to use, highly recommend checking them out. This piece is just so soft to me. Captioned "'you're beautiful, you know that?'" they're saying it to each other, two people that struggle with their self image finding love and confidence in the other. Also I'm so very happy with the background. I love these two so so so so much, they're my world.

SEPTEMBER

One of my goals for this year was to branch out in the fanart I made. Baldur's Gate 3 came along and I love watching my best friend play it, we love Shadowheart and I just wanted to draw her. This came after a lot of sketches of both her and our favorite Tav that ended up changing how I draw eyes. The rendering of her face here is also something I'm proud of, her nose looks great. And again, the background! This piece didn't get a lot of attention at all but that's okay, I made it for me and I'm very happy with it.

OCTOBER

STAR WARS TOXIC YURI WENT CRAZY THIS YEAR!!! Wolfwren (Sabine Wren x Shin Hati, from the Ahsoka TV series) had me by the THROAT for a solid two months or so, I haven't been that feral and deranged over a ship in a hot minute. They had me frothing at the mouth every episode even though I did not like the show overall. Anyways. First piece is a redraw of the part in episode 4 where they just have the most charged eye contact of all time, and I decided to take that in stride with inspiration from Horimiya, a favorite anime of mine, during particularly emotionally charged moments, the background changes and there's a particular color silhouette behind them. It really fits that moment of the show and I am SO proud of these faces, especially Sabine's. Drawing from a real human face reference was kinda new to me but it's taught me a lot. The file size also ended up enormous somehow idk lol

Then, my most popular piece of the year, on both tumblr and twitter. I LOVE hand imagery, I love subtle hand touches, I churned this out in I think exactly one day, it's so soft it's so cute and I totally understand the overwhelming positivity it received.

NOVEMBER

I was not doing well at this time in the year. The state of the world just had me in a horrible mental state, I wasn't taking care of myself well at all, I couldn't get myself to make art, especially something happy or cute, it just felt wrong. But then sometimes you feel something so strong and specific there's no other way to process it than to make art. To make a long story short, earlier in the year I thought a girl liked me, I liked her back, but it turned out she did indeed have a boyfriend the whole time. We didn't see or talk to each other for a few months but in November we (and the bf, lol) met up again. When she saw me at the door she smiled at me so sweetly and it was just the worst feeling ever and I just had to hide it behind a smile and a wave. Oversharing aside, this is a style I'd wanted to execute for a while and I'm really pleased with how it turned out, would love to make more like this.

DECEMBER

All of this was done / finished in the first two weeks of the month because then I got sick + was visiting family + jet lag took me out. Kinda sad I didn't get something done for Ahri's birthday or a traditional Kahri Winter piece but that's what January is for. Anyway.

Sometimes you just want to draw girls kissing and sometimes you wanna make it a little suggestive. Not much to say. Proud of the drapery on Kai'Sa's sleeve and you can always tell I love drawing hands.

Now it's time for classwork. Here I just have two pages but I've posted the whole comic on its own, this was for my "Art and Text" class, I have it printed in a booklet and my classmates + friends have responded to it so sweetly I'm really proud, I really really want to make more comics. This project was a culmination of so many inspirations from other artists and I'm really happy with the execution even if it was really rough for me to manage my time well for that class.

Then for my "Fiction and Allegory" class, two of my friends and I made a storyboard film (which I don't want to share publicly, but if I know you you can ask for a link) and during the all-nighter two of us pulled to get it done on time, I decided one scene needed music instead of diegetic sound, so I churned this out on garageband in about an hour. Would definitely love to try my hand at making more music in the future. Wish my classmates / teacher liked / understood the film more but oh well. I learned a lot and for the thousandth time, I'm proud of what I did.

IN CONCLUSION:

I ended up with less full pieces than 2022 but what I did create in 2023 are big, detailed, emotional pieces, and I'm more than satisfied. I think my skills in rendering, backgrounds, and colors really improved and I'm looking forward to how I continue to improve in 2024. This upcoming year has a lot of scary stuff ahead (namely graduating college) but I will come out the other side regardless, hopefully with just as much art I'm proud of.

Kinda OT, why are minors in the rh fandom so much worse than the adults? I have many older friends in the fandom (My best friends being 20 and 23, iirc!) And they are the most fun almost childlike at heart people I know sharing their aus and fun fanart, then you got 13 year olds asking for karate joe penis. Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Late Night Fellow Flowers!!!

Okay; For those that have followed me when this account was just Poptropica, I finally got back into it after so many months. I ended up drawing 3 things the other night that I wanna post here.

(Also just a Small side note; Yesterday was this main Tumblr Account’s 7th birthday. 7 years I had this Tumblr; Thank you all!!)

Now then! Onto the Drawings. First off; Who here remembers a story that went around on DeviantArt that was called Poptropica DRTI?

If you do; Then great! For those that don’t but/or need a refresher; I gotchu. It was a story 3 people worked on where if Poptropica had an Island that was based off of the Anime/Video game: Danganronpa. (It became 2 stories of Danganronpa Island because of the first story getting popular) It had the Villains of Poptropica be placed into this Island and basically go through what the Anime and Games went through for the first story while the Second Story had Side characters.

Lots of Emotions and lots of Blood were being shown for this Stories. The first Story is the one I remember most because of how it was with the villains of Poptropica. The one running the Island was none other than Zeus in his disguise of Dr.Jupiter. It had bizzare kills; Punishments and many times when reading the story, I have drawn fanart for the story. Their all on my DA so their old drawings and I plan to Redraw them.

I had to look at what everyone looked like and figure out designs for some.

Personally I love how Binary Bard (In the Second picture) ended up turning out. Of course there is Crusher and Crawfish as well but still.

NEXT DRAWING!!!

Those of you who had followed me since my Poptropica days may remember I had two other OCs besides Flowertor Dangeroot. One named Lang and the other being Henry Crook. I figured it was best I brought them back too with Flowertor; Because of this I ended up remembering what I did to Henry Crook.

Henry crook lost his eyes when he was a kid to a Pirate Captain but he knew it wasn’t Crawfish. Since that day; He swore to get revenge on him so as he got older and Crawfish came to his town, He teamed up with Crawfish. Crawfish made Henry crook first Mate and looked out for him every time they would go into battle with a town or other pirates.

Soon enough; They run into the Pirate Captain that took Henry’s Eyes. A big fight occurs and it led to Henry winning against his enemy but at a cost. Unfortunately; Henry had gotten stabbed during the battle and was looking blood pretty fast.

Crawfish (Who couldn’t help Henry fight because Henry told him not to) finds Henry but sees that he’s in bad shape. He pleads and Begs for Henry to wake up but sadly to no Avail. Henry unfortunately passed away from his wounds and Crawfish didn’t have a first mate anymore. He Kept Henry’s scarf he would always wear as a way to remember him by and plans on doing something with the Scarf but for right now: It remains in Crawfish’s possession.

long distance javid that starts on tumblr: well-known fan creator edition

jack kelly is a fanartist who starts posting his digital works when he's about 13 and by the time he's 17, he's well known in the fandom he creates for. he gets requests, he does commissions, he uses it as a way to save for college- and also because it's fun and he likes drawing his silly little favorite characters doing their silly little tasks. he has a separate blog for non-fandom pieces (anything from OCs to scans of his traditional paintings, even the odd piece of vent art) and that gets a lot of traction, too. jack kelly rises to Ikimaru/Viria/Burdge level fame on tumblr and its all just this 17 year old Mexican kid with a silly little drawing tablet his foster mom got him as an adoption gift.

david jacobs is a fic writer, and a well-known one at that. he started when he was about 12 and unsupervised, writing really bad Percy Jackson fanfic on wattpad, like any young gay should. his fics started gaining traction and as they did so, his skill became better too; by the time he's 17, he's cracking out chapter fics and fleshing out huge complex AUs. a lot of people follow along for his NaNoWriMo content and original works as well, like his poetry or original fiction pieces, but a LOT of his followers come from his fanfics. his AO3 has at least 85 works and he's one of those people who has thousands of hits on his works bc he's just really good (even if he doesn't think he deserves it). you know how sometimes, you read a fic, and it kind of changes your outlook on life for a bit? davey's the fic writer who creates that. he wants to be in the editing/writing business and he's making it known.

anyway!

jack and dave meeting over tumblr bc theyre in the same fandom. becoming mutuals, constantly rbing each other's stuff, tagging each other in posts, the works. they REALLY start interacting by jack drawing scenes from davey's fics and davey writing little drabbles inspired by jack's fanart, and pretty soon they're kind of Known in the fanon circle- people see one of them, and immediately think of the other.

soon, they start talking about more than just fandom stuff and find out that they're the same age, they like the same stuff, theyve been in the same fandoms for A While and just never put two and two together. and though they live pretty far from each other, their friendship is like. Cemented. they exchange other socials and start video chatting, facetiming, discord voice calls, etc. and are so In Like with each other but also long distance is Scary and Not Ideal and they're both embarrassed to say they met their crush on tumblr anyway so they just ignore it

and this goes on for YEARS. they FINALLY meet up when they both go to a con- as fans, but eventually they'll be vendors (jack for his art and davey for his eventual book series)- and they click instantly. i imagine they do some pretty sick Percy Jackson cosplays, bc i love headcanoning that they both grew up with it, and they have so much fun together. they stay up so late talking about anything and everything, they fall asleep next to each other even though there's another bed in the room, and they both wake up red-faced and awkward bc Wow He Looks Pretty With The Sunrise In His Eyes.

(side note: i imagine they share a hotel room, but Medda and Esther share a room as well, and they become close friends throughout the weekend! these boys aren't completely unsupervised.)

they both part ways- Jack going to New York and Davey going back to Chicago- but their friendship is just that much more important. they talk every day, from junior year of high school to sophomore year of college, and when they FINALLY get together for real, it's at another con. they've both moved onto different fandoms but they're still SO close and just ,, jack, 20, having his first ever booth at a con, and asking davey to come for "moral support" but really he just wants to see him. davey helps him run his booth, helps restock and sell and run the "business" side of things. and when it's less busy, jack beta reads some of davey's new work, but the majority of the time they're just. talking. they stay in the same hotel room that night and it's one of those "i really want to hold him but i don't want to be weird" moments and it's so painfully obvious that they like each other but they're both Really scared of distance

and boom! they kiss in the hotel and the rest is history.

i think ,, davey transferring colleges to be closer to jack, and they move in together once he's For Sure going to school in the city. jack isn't going to school, he's an artist full-time, and his commissions and prints/stickers/mugs/merch/etc. rake in enough to pay the bills, plus with davey's added income from his part time job, they live modestly but comfortably.

once davey graduates, he starts sending his book- one he's been working on and editing and worldbuilding since before he even knew jack- out to editors, and then publishers, and eventually its hitting the shelves in every major bookstore in the country because it's such a hit.

and david gets to brag that his husband drew the cover art.

Lan Wangji nodded in appreciation.

“Much appreciated,” Jiang Cheng said. “Is everyone here?”

“Well,” Wen Ning said hesitantly. “I mean…”

“No,” Jin Zixuan said. “By which I mean yes, everyone’s here who’s going to be here. We’re not inviting Wen Chao.”

“Definitely not. Sorry, Wen-xiong, you’re the only Wen we’re allowing in here.”

“That’s fair.”

“Enough chatter,” Jiang Cheng said, and lifted his drink. “I hereby declare this to be the opening session of Club ‘So Your Younger Sibling is More Talented Than You’. Long may we bitch about our fate.”

They all saluted and drank to that.

“As a reminder, everything that’s said in this room is subject to the strictest confidentiality,” Jiang Cheng continued after a few moments. “And no one is allowed to offer any helpful advice on how to feel better about it: we’re here to vent about our mutual insecurities, not seeking advice. Club rules. Everyone agreed?”

Agreement all around.

“So, in that case, let me start,” Jiang Cheng said. “Just last week, there was a – an incident I’d rather not going into detail about, but which got my parents to start fighting again, and which served as a beautiful illustration of how both my little sister and informally adopted brother are better than me in every possible respect. They understand the Jiang sect motto better than I do, they’re nicer than I am…sometimes I even feel like they’re better friends with each other than they are with me…”

“I mean, your sister isn’t as good a cultivator as you,” Jin Zixuan offered, though the way his cheeks turned a bit red suggested he was adding a mental even if she’s really pretty and surprisingly cool afterwards.

“No, but Wei Wuxian is. He’s a genius, innovative and brilliant; he even invents new techniques,” Jiang Cheng said gloomily, politely ignoring the subtext. “Put them together and they make the perfect Jiang sect heir.”

“…I’m sorry about that.” Jin Zixuan rubbed his eyes. “If it makes you feel better, my younger half-brother is a verifiable genius, too, especially when it comes to organizing things. And he has perfect control over his emotions the way my parents are always trying to get me to do – I mean, he smiles no matter what people say to piss him off, and people say some really stupid stuff.”

Jin Zixuan’s brother was technically a bastard and the son of a prostitute, which everyone knew, and everyone also knew how much the cultivation world loved its gossip. There were nods all around.

“You think you have a problem with geniuses,” Wen Ning said quietly, drawing a pattern on the table with one finger. “My younger sister is said to be the best doctor in the entire cultivation world – no, the best doctor the cultivation world has produced in several generations.”

“Does she invent brand new ways of doing things, too?” Jiang Cheng asked, with sympathy.

Wen Ning nodded.

“And your uncle compares you?”

“Oh, does he ever.”

“My father doesn’t compare us, though sometimes I wish he would just to get it over with and make A-Yao feel better,” Jin Zixuan said. “My mother, on the other hand…”

“Don’t get me started about mothers,” Jiang Cheng said.

“You guys think you have it bad!” Nie Huaisang exclaimed. “Look at my younger brother! Maybe your Wei Wuxian and Jiang Yanli together make up a perfect sect heir – my kid brother is a perfect Nie sect heir all by himself. Fantastic cultivator, excellent at saber, brilliant strategist, responsible, mature…and unlike Jin-gongzi’s younger brother, he's legitimate. And he’s good at the stuff my sect is good at! No offense, Wen-xiong, but the Wen sect isn’t exactly known for its doctors…”

“No, you’re right,” Wen Ning said. “That sounds awful.”

“Everyone’s always comparing us,” Nie Huaisang said. “It’s always ‘Nie-gongzi, why can’t you be more like your brother?’, ‘Nie-gongzi, look how hard your brother is working’, ‘Nie-gongzi, your brother – your brother – your brother!’”

He sighed.

“I can’t even get angry at him,” he confessed. “He takes things so personally – any time he overhears someone saying something like that, he gets all up in arms on my behalf, saying that I’m trying my best…you don’t know how aggravating it can be, knowing he really is that great!”

Lan Wangji cleared his throat.

Everyone looked at him.

“Yeah, all right,” Jiang Cheng said. “You win. As usual.”

“Yeah, no contest,” Nie Huaisang said, and Wen Ning and Jin Zixuan nodded. “We may all be bad off, but at least we don’t have Lan ‘Perfect Gentleman, Most Desirable Bachelor, Nice and Friendly and Plays Multiple Instruments, Is Brilliant at Swordsmanship and Cultivation All Together At Once’ Xichen as our younger brother.”

Lan Wangji nodded firmly, though he looked a little smug.

His position as king of the club was unshakeable.

Thought process and easter egg on the Digimon Anniversary Illustration! 

Hello everyone, today I feel like explaining some stuff over my Digimon Illustration, mostly why I drew thing this way or point out some little details and easter eggs you might have missed. ;)

The Digimon illustration was a special one for me for different reasons. Firstly, obviously, Digimon! It was a show I grew up with, and I find it quite fitting that after a tough year of graduation movie under a pandemic, in which I really experienced the pain of growing up, I ended up finding back Digimon. 

Secondly, as a child, I remember spending HOURS looking for fanarts online! I would save all the ones I found pretty and keep them preciously, i still have the folders actually haha. While pursuing art, I always had in mind thatI wanted one day to make a fanart my child self would have gone crazy over! And, i think I achieved that with that one haha. 

Anyway LET’S START! Shall we? 

First off : the illustration process

When I do an illustration I always do a quick draft first, and most of the time, in colors. I think I’m more of a “color” person than a “line” person, I tend to need to see colors quickly in order to see if it’s ok. 

For this one, I’ve always had in mind it would be a double illustration, with the older Tai’s silhouette acting as a frame for the children illustration. It was a bit tricky, I had to make the children illustration fit nicely into his silhouette, it was hassle around the neck area, that’s why I made little Taichi stand up haha. Also used Mimi’s hat to balance the picture : the bottom part is very heavy and there’s only sky in the upper part, adding the hat helps making it more balanced. 

The character were the longest and the most challenging part by far. As you can see I had 3 different steps : super rough, they’re almost like stickmen and smiley face, a more detailled one in which I figure out their actual pose and anatomy, then a last one in which I fix some proportion, add details and clean. Fun fact I don’t clean over a new layer... i just erase the unwanted part of my sketch. :’D

I did a quick pass over the BG after that, then I colored the characters in flat colors before rendering them. It was a back and forth between the BG and the characters to make sure everything was working together nicely. 

Now was the time to render the BG, I did the tramway first, the flower field after. Fun fact, I did my flower field study in order to know how to approach the flowers in this illustration! If your have the time, i totally recommend finding a photograph close to the kind of BG you wanna do, and make a study of it so you can try your hand at it first and go into your own BG later with an idea of how to approach this.

Adjust colors, add flower petals and butterflies and emotional text, slap over a paper texture, and THERE. You have it! On to the next part now...

The meaningful details and easter eggs

Be aware there will be spoilers for Digimon Adventure 01 (but I assume you already know it), but also for Digimon Adventure : Last evolution Kizuna, which is the conclusion of the first serie. So read at your own risk! 

The tramway is obviously a reference to the end of Digimon Adventure 01. The kids used it to go back to their world, so It was their goodbye to their Digimon at this moment. In Kizuna, Tai and Matt find the tramway trapped in crystal in Menoa’s fake memory world. Hinting that had they been caught by her, their memories would have brought them back here.

Tailmon has Kari’s whistle! At the end of Digimon Adventure 01, Kari gives it to her as a memento. 

When I drew Sora, I had in mind how she was in Kizuna, very stressed out by her mom’s expectation, which led her to neglect Piyomon. She realized it too late, and after that she refused to fight because she wanted to keep Piyomon with her as long as possible. Tragically, she was the first one to lose her Digimon. Here I tried to convey a softness and a kind of “I won’t forget to appreciate you” vibe in the way she holds Piyomon’s hand. As for Mimi and Palmon, in Digimon adventure 01 Palmon was very emotionally affected by Mimi’s departure, so, a hug was fitting. :’) 

The screens on the Tramway display DA for Digimon Adventure, and also 01.08.1999 which is the date of the children’s journey’s beginning. :) 

The little drawings also show the 8 crests. 

There are butterflies flying over the illustration, it’s a reference to Butter-fly, the first Digimon opening, by the late Koji Wada. 

"I'll become a happy butterfly, and ride on the glittering wind, I'll come and see you soon. “

Now, let’s the see the counterpart of the illustration. The one with the grown up Tai from Kizuna.

I made him wear the hoodie he had in his very last adventure with Agumon.... but truthfully the reason is that I think hoodies are cool lol. And the hood’s volume gave me more space in the silhouette, which made it easier for me to do the other illustration inside.

You don’t see it clearly, but he is holding his Digivice, albeit the darkened version once his partner bond with Agumon is broken. The Tai in this illustration has already lost Agumon. (Yes it was painful for me to go fetch the screenshots)

He is also holding his dear signature google he used to wear as a child. Fun fact, I rewatched the older movies, and as a kid he even used to sleep with it, how cute haha. 

Also yes, the crest of Courage over his hand, which is his own. I’m so dumb I realize I should have made the time counter from the movie instead of the crest for a maximum emotional hurt impact. 

And the quote is from one of the trailer for Kizuna, I think.....................

But then you go : Oh that illustration is so depressing then! Well. Yes. But no. but yes. But not really. 

One of my favorite shot of the movie is this one : this is after Tai and Agumon learn their time together is limited. Agumon asks him if they will have to go separate ways once Tai is all grown up. Tai doesn’t answer, and takes him to eat something instead, as Agumon was hungry. In this shot Agumon eats to his heart content next to Tai, who’s not eating at all and just watches him fondly. I love that the framing doesnt show agumon. It’s a foreshadowing of their unavoidable separation. 

At the very end of the movie, Tai write in his thesis about Human and Digimon’s relationship that Agumon was like a part of himself.

In a way, Agumon symbolizes childhood, the carefree days we would spend as a kid, with our big dreams and hopes. When you grow up, you tend to forget those simple emotions because you get swallowed into the stress of studies, figuring out your carreer, your life path. Just like us, Tai forgot this part of himself. In the madness of growing up, he lost Agumon. 

However, it’s not the end. He will pick himself back up. He will move forward in life despite his worries and incertainities, and he will find himself again. Therefore, he will find Agumon again. The kids in the illustration are waving goodbye, but it’s not goodbye, it’s a see you later.  In the meantime, Tai is holding on to these precious memories, until they meet again.
