Today was not the day. Not the day to have fun, not the day to mess around, not the day to do anything, and yet here we were. Walking into the FBI, a place filled with bad things. And in that sense, enough horrible, terrible, and mortifying things to make an angel frown. This whole week was not going well for you. In fact, it was like your life just decided to turn on you when everything was going just your way. First, your dog died, then it was the 5th year anniversary of your brother’s tragic death. And not to mention your anxiety had been getting worse and worse ever since your best friends Emily’s death, and then resurrection. Oh and the fact that you’re 99% sure that the guy you love, hates you. Yeah, that doesn’t help your case either.

“You’re late.” You hear someone say in a very demeaning stern voice while you rush through the 2 glass doors that protect the outside world from all of the horrors. “Oh shit, sorry Hotch,” You murmur while quickly stumbling to your desk as if you were late for class. You spilt all your files on your desk and then plopped down in the chair as if it were nothing. You put down and debated on falling asleep, but then remembering that your boss would scold you more than he already has, and who would like that.

Penelope happened to be walking by your desk at this time. Everyone else was to busy to notice you, but she did. “Hey Y/N! Can you come with me real quick.” She said while tapping your desk. “What, I- yeah.” You say after jolting your head up and getting up. You followed her into her so-called “bat cave” until you asked why she called you in here. “So, why did you call me in here?” All she did was point to an extra chair and say sit, which you gladly did.

“You’ve been acting strange lately, almost like a different person. So spill.”

“Spill what?”

“Your feelings Y/N. Tell me everything. Because clearly no one cares enough to ask, except me of course. And it’s good to get your feeling out, no matter what they are. And that means I want you to lay everything on me. Make me your free therapist. Tell me all of your problems, all of them.”

You were trying to hold back your tears, you really were. “Penelope”' You said trying to catch your breath. “I just cant anymore. Everything is getting, so hard, and I just. I don’t know what to do. I can’t think straight anymore. And it’s like every day I’m failing, miserably. No matter how hard I try, or will ever try, Hotch will always resent me. I mean, he HATES me Penelope, HATES!! And you know what, I love him. I love it so much and he hates me and I just don’t know what to do. I try to be good enough for him, but everything I do is just, it’s not enough!”

At this point, you were balling. It was like a waterfall. “And did you know that my dog Honey dies 2 days ago? You didn’t do you. No one did! No one does! No pays and fucking attention to me, and I know that that’s pathetic but I am a human being too, I need attention and affection! And I understand that I shouldn’t get my personal life mixed up in work, but literally everyone fucking does it!! In some goddamn way, in some goddamn time, we’ve all fucking done it! But if I do it, I’m being a bad person, an attention seeker, a brat! I’m not a fucking brat Penelope! And you know what, I’m done with people treating me like a fucking doormat! Just because I smile people assume they can treat me like absolute garbage! LIke trash! And you know what! I don’t even know why I smile! I’m not fucking happy! I haven’t been happy for a while! You see this smile, ha, yeah its fucking fake. It’s all fucking fake! Ive gotten at a point where this stupid fucking smile is a reflex, I don’t want it to be a fucking reflex, Penelope!”

At this point, you didn’t even have full control over what you were saying. It was all just coming out, and you just couldn’t stop. “God and my best fucking friend died! Haha, and then she came fucking back like it was nothing! And of course, I didn’t say anything, but oh my fucking god! People just leave, and when they come back, they act like it's nothing. Did you know that today is the 5th year anniversary of my brother’s death? Yeah, this is why I’m late. BUt did Hotch give me a second to explain that I was at his grave, no, he fucking did-”

You were cut off by the door opening. “Hey! We heard some yelling here, is everything okay?” JJ says while looking at the mess that is you.

“Uh, yeah,” You say while wiping all the tears off your face. “We were, just um watching The Notebook, and well you know,”

“Oh okay,” She says in a sense of relief, “Also Y/N, everyone is asking for you to bring some coffee since we ran out of it here.”

“Uh, yeah okay.” You get up and leave like nothing just happened. Penelope was still processing everything you said so she was not paying attention to the fact that you were gone. You quickly grab your coat, purse, and keys and head out.

Penelope was still in shock due to everything that just happened. “Penelope, are you okay?” JJ asks.

“Yes, but no! But yes, ahh, okay. You know what, just get everyone in the briefing room.”

“We have a case? Shouldn’t we wait for Y/N to come back?”

“Yes, well no. God! Just get everyone in there, I have some very important news.”

“Babygirl, why are we here?” Derek says after everyone’s in the briefing room.

“Yeah Garcia, if this isn’t a case, you guys need to get back to work,” Hotch says.

“Oh but this is a case. A very severe one. How much time do we have?” she says while looking at the clock, “Okay 12 minutes should be enough.”

“Enough for what?” Spencer asked, trying to understand what was going on.

“Hush my sweet child let me talk. Uh, okay how does one do this?”

“Do what?” Emily yells.

“Let me think Emily! Okay, our dear friend and teammate Y/N, has been going through some shit and you guys, we, us, are not helping. The poor girl goes through shit every day and we don’t see a thing. Some profilers you all are. And I mean Emily, you’re her best friend! You should have known this!”

“Babygirl calm down. Why are you getting so mad?” Derek asks.

“I’m not mad! Well, I am, but you guys are not seeing the main point here! We’ve all been treating this poor helpless innocent girl like crap! And she can’t even go to her boss because he hates her!”

“I don’t hate Y/N!” Hotch yells trying to defend himself.

“You kinda do Hotch,” Spencer says, causing Hotch to give him a death wish.

“You guys!! I’m scared of her! She needs us! Her dog died yesterday and her brother's death anniversary is today! She’s hurting and we’re making her get coffee for god sakes!! And speaking of coffee, she’s most likely getting out of her car right now, so everyone acts normal, but not. Now scatter!” Penelope says while urging her hands. And with that everyone was out.

Everyone went back to their offices except for Rossi, he went into Hotch’s office. “Why didn’t you say anything?” Hotch yells at him. “Because that’s something for you to tell everyone. That’s something you tell her Aaron! You’re gonna have to accept the fact that you feel this was sooner or later, and I’m hoping sooner. And when you do, you’re going to have to tell her. And then apologize for all the shit you’ve done to her, and then if she wants, comfort her. And with that, she’s here. So for god sakes tell her.”

“But what if she says the opposite?” Hotch asks while Rossi is halfway out the door.

“You deal with it, and move on,”

“Here you all go!” You say while walking up to them. “One hot chocolate for Spencer. An iced coffee for miss Garcia and Jareau. One pumpkin spice latte for Mr. Clean, and a-” You were cut off by a very mad Emily. “Y/N we need to talk. Privately.” You couldn't tell why she was mad, but she was definitely pissed about something. Honestly everyone was off but you just couldn't tell why.

You both walked into the briefing room and before you could say anything she yelled at you, well not yell, but expressed loudly. “Why!” She asked. You were confused, as anyone would be. “What?” You answered not understanding anything. “Why did you tell everything to Garcia! Am I not good enough for you! Am I not your friend anymore? Because I swear Y/N if that's the case then I don't know why I even came back.Because you what, when i\I came back I thought that you out of everyone would trust me.”

“Oh really! Emily, you left! You were gone! And didn’t even bother to tell me, your best fucking friend!!”

“Okay, you know what Y/N, yes I was gone! But I did for my safety! I did it four all of our safety!”

“Emily, we could have helped you! You didnt have to go halfway around the fucking world!”

“No Y/N you don't understand, and never will!! But you what, all that time that I was in France I couldn't stop thinking about you! About what you were doing! About how you were! And you know what I still feel that way! I want to be with you! You’re my best fucking friend! But you don't tell me SHIT!! WHY!! You're gonna tell Penelope but no me!! Me!! And Penelope out of all people!! Y/N if you’re hurting you should have come to me!! I've been through this!! I am going through this!!”

“Why cant you realize that you can fucking come to me!!! I mean did do something fuking wrong?! Y/N, I'm asking you. “ You didn’t answer, how were you supposed to. You were still taking everything in and honestly none of it made sense. Was she mad, was she concerned. All you could tell was that there were tears running down your face and you didn't know how to stop it. You tried to breathe but you just couldn’t. “Y/N! God, whatever. Just know that you probably hate me right now, but I'll always be there for you.”

And with that she was out. She walked out of the room without looking back, or maybe she did, you just didn't see. This was too complicated for you to understand. Ha, and you were a profiler for god sakes. You wanted to run out but before you could you heard the door open. You didn’t look up because you were too ashamed to face Emily with all the tears running down your face. But suddenly you felt an arm on your shoulder. You turned around to see that shadow of a tall man that glared over you.

“Hotch?” You asked quietly. “Y/N,” he said looking down at you. You still hadn’t faced him in the eye. You couldn't, you were a mess and you couldn't let him of all people see you like this. Although when you think about it, if you like him, shouldn't he see you like this. You being the real, true, authentic Y/N. “Hotch, I, can explain.” You say while snifiling, his hands still on you. “No, let me explain.”

“Ever since the day you came here, I’ve been a terrible friend, boss, and all around human being. I’ve treated you like a child, and you're not one. You’re an exceptional agent and I'm so proud and grateful to have you on my team. And the fact that i keep making your life probably miserable, yeah, ha, im so fucking sorry Y/N. It’s just that, I'm scared. Scared of truly accepting my feelings of you. After Haley, I just can’t risk it. And that means I cant have feelings for you.”

“So, I thought that if I treated you worse then I wouldn't feel for you, but I was wrong. You are an amazing, brilliant, gorgeous woman who I just can't not not. The way you act with Jack just, it just makes me wanna marry you! But I was too scared to tell you. And I regret that everyday. I guess what I am trying to say is that I love you and that I’m sorry for everything I’ve put you through.”

Did your boss, Hotch, just say that he loves you. Were you dreaming, was this real? Did you love him back? Of course, I mean you've been pining over him since you came to the BAU, right. He stopped talking for a few seconds, but then he did something unspeakable. He kissed you. And it was in this moment, when you truly realized. You didn’t love Aaron Hotchner. You loved someone else. Have you ever even loved him? You didn’t know. Maybe, the only reason you liked him was because he, well, there was something about him. But we will never know, or at least for now that is.

You pulled away after realizing that you weren’t kissing back. He didn’t seem to notice that small detail. “Hotch, no I can't.” You mutter while looking at him. “What do you mean?” He says confused. “I mean, you can't waltz in here saying that you love me and you’re sorry for the way you treated me and expect everything to be fine. Everything you did, everything you said, all those time and days, yeah they hurt. And you just can't say those 3 words and expect everything to be okay!” You hadn't realized it, but his hands weren't on you anymore, instead they were slowly retracting from you.

“That’s not how this works okay, you really hurt me. And I loved you. If you told me that you had any interest in me in a non-planonical way. I would have said yes. But instead you chose to hurt me and I can’t really forgive you for that.”

“Y/N I… I understand, I'm sorry. I truly am, I hope you can forgive me.” He says while in shock.

“I hope I can too Hotch.” And then suddenly you were out the door. Running down the stairs as if your life depended on it. “Where are you going!” Hotch yelled from the door of the briefing room. “Somewhere over the rainbow!” You said while quickly grabbing your coat from your desk. You realized that she would most likely be getting in her car right now since she wasn't at her desk. So with that knowledge, you sprinted down the stairs since you thought it would be faster, it wasn't.

And look, there she was. Right by her car trying to find the key to unlock it. “Emily!” You yelled while running over to her as fast as your now jelly legs could carry you. “Emily, wait up!!” She heard you this time and looked up to see you running over to her. “Y/N, is everything okay?” She was cut off with a kiss. A soft, tender, sweet kiss, right on the lips. It wasn't too big, but it was big enough. You pulled apart when you realized she wasn't kissing back.

“Y/N I-”

“No, wait, let me. Emily it took me so long to finally understand. Understand that it was you along. You were always there for me when I needed you the most, and I was stupid for not telling you, or realizing. You’re the one who’s opinion I care about the most, not Hotch! You’re the one i wanna see first when i get hurt, not Hotch! You’re the one I wanna see every morning I wake up, not Hotch!! I wanna be with you Em. Because you make me happy like that. You make me wanna be a better person everyday and I need that in my life! I need you in my fucking life Emily! And so I love you! I love you! I fucking love you Emily!”

“Y/N I- what are you saying?”

“I'm saying that I love you! I love you so much! I love you the way Romeo loved Juliet and the way the sun loves the moon!”

“Y/N, I love you too. But not in that way. Um, I'm dating JJ.”

Your heart dropped. You couldn't breathe. All the air was still there, but you couldn't take any of it in without dying. Was this real. For how long? Was it really too late? Why would this happen? Was everything not enough? After everything you had been through, did you really need this. And why did it have to be this? Why couldn't you just be happy for once? Just once!

“Oh,” You say not sure what to say. “That’s um, that's great Em. I’m really happy for you.” And with that, you started heading to the building. “Y/N wait!” She yelled. You just turned around and smiled a half assed smile, but she didn't have to know that. She probably did. How could you have not known. I mean you were a profile for god sakes! That was your job! This is what you do and you can’t even figure shit like this out!

You walked with a moping look and the personality of a dead person. You kept your head down as you dragged your legs up into the BAU. Keeping your head down fearing from someone who might accidentally see your waterfall of tears. You made your way up into the only place where you knew you could go for a hug and comfort. Well, besides the batcave. Rossi’s office. The door was open so you made your way in and immediately shut it causing him to look up in fright.

“Y/N you scared me. Are you okay?” He said while getting up as a reaction of seeing your crying face.

“No Rossi, I'm not.” You say while snifiling. He sat you down on his couch and placed a blanket over you. “What happened my dolce colomba?” The tears started spilling again when you told him everything. You couldn't help but not to. It was impossible. “My sweet sweet child, this looks hard. This is hard. But I want you to always know that I am always gonna be here for you. No matter what. I love you. We all love you.”

“Rossi, what do I do?”

“You just live. Try and see the good in every moment. For instance right now, youre talking with me instead of working on some boring paperwork so think about that. Think about your brother and all the memories you shared. But for now, just live because before you know it all of this will be over and you'll wonder where everything went. So no matter how just live in the moment. Even if it's hard, do it.”

“Living is hard.”

“I know mia dolce colomba, I know. But we do it anyway, It is not like we have a choice. But just alway rember that I will always be here for you. So if you ever wanna go chasing cars, make sure to call me.”

Hey so I saw you mention top surgery and was curious. I was supposed to be having top surgery this summer but that’s postponed. I was curious how that went with chronic pain? I’m scared about the surgical binder with my fibro and back pain. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated!! (You can answer privately if you prefer)

ive actually been meaning to write up a big post on this pretty much since i had top surgery but still haven't got around to it yet so I'm happy to talk about it lol. ill go over stuff now n still aim to do a more in depth post later when im on my laptop (but writing this now bc i tend to forget everything haha). ill stick to the more fibro / chronic illness specific stuff & stuff i wasnt expecting rather than rehashing everything. apologies im on mobile so i cant put this under a cut

firstly, im sorry ur surgery got postponed! i know that must be gutting, so i hope it gets rescheduled asap & the time until then passes easily for u ❤️

I had double incision with free nipple grafts on the 4th of september 2019 with Mr Miles Berry at the london wellbeck hospital. i think he did an amazing job and can't recommend him enough for his work! i think the last pics i took of my chest were for tdov, and ill rb them after i post this for reference. i didnt have drains at any point of the surgery

for ppl with fibro, i was told that the pain after surgery either tends to trigger a flareup, or be really easily manageable, and it's hard to predict which it will be beforehand. its best to prepare for a flareup and be pleasently surprised if u dont get one. for me, i had a flareup that sucked but wasnt too bad as far as flareups go

you'll probably get given painkillers. take them regularly. it's easier to treat pain preemptively. if u don't get given them (no idea how it works outside of the uk) id say def get codine and paracetamol. u can't take ibuprofen for a while

i woke up from aneasthetic freezing cold + in a lot of pain. apparently most ppl dont need the full dose of morphine, but i did. after that it was a bit better. i was just So Goddamn Hungry literally it's all i was talking about

that night in hospital was probably one of the most uncomfortable in my life. you have to sleep sitting up for like blood reasons, so my back pain was quite bad bc of it. moving around a bit and adjusting pillows helped. if u have anything that normally helps ur back pain bring it with u to the hospital, & dont be afraid to ask the nurses for help with it (even if they can just adjust ur pillows for u). i couldnt rly sleep much but distraction helps. bring ur phone + headphones. i did a few ask memes when i couldnt sleep

the first week from surgery was rly tough, the first few days especially. this was bc i still had to sleep elevated for a few days and i couldnt get comfortable. i was too exhausted to do anything but couldn't sleep and it rly started to get me down. then i got some sleeping tablets (just nytol) and that helped so much. i literally cannot recommend it enough bc the not sleeping properly made everything hard (and like esp because with fibro the whole pain/fatigue/depression cycle is so real). once i started sleeping better recovery became a lot easier, and the tablets made the awkward sleeping positions more manageable. if i had to give only one bit of advice this would be it

on that note, ik everyone says this but do get a V pillow. it helps u adjust to sleeping on ur back and if u sleep on ur side normally it means u can like lean slightly sideways on it which makes it sm easier. also this isn't even top related but they make good back pillows when ur watching stuff in bed even now

get urself some video games (if ur into them) and easy entertainment shows lined up for when u wanna have them. recovering from major surgery makes ur fatigue even more pronounced so ur not going to be able to do all that much, but having light entertainment ready to go stops u getting as bored. its also a good excuse to finally play/watch the things you've been meaning to for a while

go outside when u can. if u have a garden just walk around it. it helps with a lot of stuff, and idk about u but i always forget how much it does. even just helping u sleep better if u get trapped in a fibro fatigued-but-can't-sleep cycle. and it goes so far helping u feel human in the first week

the first week is rly hard for a lot of ppl - its frustrating to have all that pain and exhaustion and not being able to wash or change the binder, and with the swelling and bandages under the binder it doesn't really feel like there's much change, which all sort of adds together. i keep going on about this week bc it helps to mentally prepare for it - there's no need to dread it, you just need to remind urself how worth it itll all be and that the rest of recovery is a lot better than the first part, and in time it won't have seemed that bad. big picture stuff

when u get the chest reveal, everything's better. i didnt stop smiling. and when u put the post op binder on afterwards, without all the bandaging, u like feel for the first time how much flatter u are??? and its amazing. even with the swelling. and then u get to shower and u feel human again and its great. (ik some ppl have their post ops/chest reveals much earlier than a week, but 5 days to a week is pretty standard in the uk. mine was 6 days i think)

more post op binder stuff: i got given 2. the first one i woke up in after the surgery and wasn't allowed to take off until my post op, and the second one i got given at my post op to change into after i showered. After that i alternated every few days. whatever u get given, if u get less than 2 i recommend getting another one so u can alternate them (if u want help sourcing them hmu. ive also still got mine i need to give away)

the post op binders were actually a lot easier to wear full time than normal binders. they were like more stretchy, and stretchy the full way round (bc they dont have the compression bit at the front). i used to sleep in my normal binder every time i slept with my ex, and that hurt like a motherfuck sometimes. the post op binder was much kinder to my ribs

i had to wear the post op binder full time, taking it off like once a day to shower n let my chest breathe (and massage my scars once i started that). some surgeons arent that strict abt wearing it that long, but it really helps swelling, & bc i didnt have drains it was rly important to stop fluid buildup. ik quite a few guys in my trans groups who stopped wearing their binder fairly early and then got quite a lot of swelling so i didn't want to risk it & i wore it for the full 6 weeks. at some point (icr when but maybe at 6 weeks? bc my post op was at 8 weeks bc he was on holiday) i didnt wear it during the day and only wore it at night

all in all the binder didnt bother me that much. it was more comfortable than my regular binders and i just kinda got on with it. it was annoying tho and i was glad when i could stop wearing it. for me the most annoying part was that it was a full length binder (i always wore half length before) and the riding up at the hips was rly irritating. i actually quite liked sleeping with it tho it was a pretty nice pressure stim ahah

some post op binders r more comfortable than others. if u have to buy ur own, i rly suggest going with a proper surgical one (they arent too hard to find second hand for free or cheap, again im happy to help here) bc they're kinder to chronic pain. i know that having a comfortable post op binder made it all a lot easier for me. there are also lots of alternatives w lots of price ranges tho, so that's not ur only option

finally: before i got top ppl told me that its honestly life changing, and i didnt realise how true that would be. literally every single aspect of my life is at least partially better because of it, and most of them drastically so. I'm really excited for you to get that for yourself, and im wishing u all the best for it 💕

jungkook - y/n met jungkook when they were in college; she was in the year above him and already friends with jimin, and he just happened to take the seat next to jimin in his first class. he and jimin hit it off almost immediately, joking around for most of lecture and walking out together once the class was over. jimin had forgotten he was supposed to meet y/n after class because she told him she would buy him coffee to celebrate his first day of college. it didnt take jungkook a long time to fall for her tbh- actually it took the span of her introducing herself and claiming that she would buy him coffee too just because she wanted to. from that point on whenever he would see her - in the library, in a coffee shop, on the quad, etc - he would run up to her with a huge smile on his face and walk her to wherever she was going, even if he was late for something. and every time she would find him about to do something like skip class or ignore his basic human needs like food and sleep during exam season, she would scold him until he agreed to be better and then she would treat him to food and call him a cutie because she felt bad about yelling at such a good bean. this girl definitely started falling for him about a year after they met, on their one year friend-versary to be exact, when he showed up at her door with gifts and a big smile and a confession of how happy he was to have sat next to jimin that day because she was the one person on campus he felt completely comfortable around and that he was really grateful to have her in his life. that confession, man- that shit got her.

tae - y/n met tae at a party actually! in her second year of college, she decided she was gonna try going out and having fun more, so she went to a party with jin and had a damn blast. but when she got there she lost the older boy pretty early on and was forced to just wander around with an empty red solo cup in her hand trying to find a good place to park herself and stay for the night. eventually she found a little corner where she could see everything and look for jin, but she had no idea that she was standing next to the guy she would later end up dancing the night away with. tae was a first year, and while he’s not a shy person, it was his first college party and he was kinda just lingering and trying to find the right vibe. he was also holding an empty cup, something that he was really embarrassed to show anyone, but he just wanted to fit in for the night. at one point y/n glanced over at tae, but he was already looking at her. he swears he had only been looking for a second, but y/n always jokes that he was staring for like ten minutes before he finally got his attention. what actually happened is that tae noticed her because she had come to stand next to him and, upon a quick glance and then a double take, he realized her cup was just as dry as his. so he spent like five minutes trying to find something to say to her that wasn’t completely lame, but she caught him staring in the process. somewhere along the line they started talking quietly and realized that they had the exact same sense of humor. they also realized that they had some mutual friends  - tae had gone to high school with namjoon and hobi, and he had actually come to the party with them but lost them at some point. y/n doesn’t remember when she started falling for him, but his chaotic nature and sense of humor played a huge part in making her feel as excited as she did whenever he was in the room, and- well. tae had already fallen for her when he saw her empty cup at that party. 

jimin - y/n remembers the day she met jimin with such clarity that sometimes she thinks she’s still in high school. by the time jimin started his freshman year, y/n was already friends with yoongi and jin, and she felt pretty secure in all her friend groups. she really didn’t think she would have anything in common with the people in the year below her, but jimin showed up in her life like a whirlwind mixture of cute and crazy, and it still blows her mind that her little ball of squish is the same guy that tripped over his own shoelaces in the hallway and fell to the ground right by her feet all those years ago. her little sweet prince is the same guy who hit the ground like a rock and then proceeded to hide his embarrassment by staring up at her from the floor and awkwardly choking out the words“haha,,, looks like i’ve fallen for you,,, haha,,,” . to this day, whenever yoongi or jin wants to tease jimin, all they have to do is whisper those words and he’s immediately whining for them to leave him alone. jimin was a little uncomfortable to be around in those days, kind of shy and kind of painfully awkward, but after a few weeks of hanging out with y/n and the older boys, his inner squish revealed itself and she was just absolutely hooked on him after that, always gushing about how adorable and cute he was when he wasn’t around. 

namjoon - y/n met namjoon during her college orientation- he was that dorky kid sitting at the front who had collected all the pamphlets he could find and was sorting through them slowly because he couldn’t decide what he wanted to do with his free time. y/n was actually late to that orientation meeting, so the only seat left was the one next to him all the way at the front. she felt so humiliated when she sat down that namjoon took one glance at her and just passed her some pamphlets so that she wouldn’t look so unprepared . when the meeting was over and she was giving the pamphlets back to him awkwardly, he just smiled sweetly and asked her for her name. they found out after a few minutes of talking that they had a class together, at which point he insisted that she meet his best friend hoseok since he was also taking the class. that was how the three of them became so close -  and it was during exam season that he realized he was beginning to fall for her. it was one of those nights before their midterm where they were sitting in her dorm room until like 5 am just studying their asses off, but at some point in the middle of the night they all started acting like a bunch of crackheads and namjoon found himself laughing so hard that he couldnt believe someone as perfect as her existed. y/n fell for him not that long after - during the exam to be exact. she was so sleep deprived that she just found herself staring off into space for part of the exam, but she was actually just staring at the side of namjoon’s face for those ten minutes. at some point her sleep-deprived brain just registered how attractive he was, especially when he was concentrating this hard, and she was absolutely whipped for him after that exam [which she failed, btw, but thats fine].

hoseok - as namjoon’s childhood best friend, he was automatically dragged into whatever namjoon was up to at any point in time, and that included skipping lunch to meet namjoon outside of his orientation meeting for what sounded like something urgent. when he got there and realized namjoon just wanted to introduce him to a girl, however, he couldnt help that he tried to strangle joon for making him miss lunch. he almost missed the way y/n laughed at his threats and offered to pay for his lunch to make it up to him. “we have a class together now,, i cant have you hating me already”, she had said with a smile, and hoseok couldnt help the way he relaxed almost immediately, smiling back at her sweetly and saying that he couldn’t hate her. he didnt realize how true that statement would become as he found himself falling for her more and more every day, saving her a seat in lecture and holding her head up for her when she fell asleep in the middle of class. their days were spent bickering about the most random shit and trying to distract namjoon during class, and their nights were spent sending each other memes and making lunch plans for the next day. there was only one day in their whole time in college that they were unable to hang out as a full set of three - the day toward the end of their first year that joon caught a stomach bug and was confined to his room all day. that was the only day she and hoseok spent alone, and it became a late night sleepover filled with life talks, drinking games, and disney movies. at some point hoseok started drunkenly rambling about how much he loved her and namjoon, and how he was so glad to have turned his duo into a trio, and that he would never let her go. y/n almost kissed him that night, but she restrained herself. 

yoongi - oh, y/n fell for this bitch on s i g h t. he and jin had met in their freshman year of high school, and as the saying goes, opposites attract. where jin was loud, cheerful, and popular, yoongi was quiet, awkward, and preferred to be left alone. he was really nice, but he just didnt see the need to show people that. so he just stayed out of everyone’s way and let jin do his thing. and that’s why y/n was so confused by yoongi when she first met him. she was just barely getting to really know jin, but his friendship with yoongi always confused her. she had to admit, though, that the first time she met him, she could already see that he was really kind and just quiet, and she couldn’t help that she thought he was the most beautiful human she’d ever seen as soon as she laid eyes on him. she found herself following him places and bothering him all day, even when jin wasn’t around. but yoongi never complained. even with jin he complained sometimes, claiming that the guy was too happy to be human - but with y/n he never complained, just letting her follow him and poke at him constantly. yoongi always had a soft spot for y/n, as much as he claimed he didnt, but it wasn’t until about the end of his first year of college that he actually realized he had fallen for her. she had just received her college acceptance letter - to the same school as him and jin - and, to his surprise, she had called him instead of jin [something that jin still complains about to this day]. hearing her on the phone, sounding so excited and bright, after he had had a stressful and draining day - it was enough to make him smile and feel warm inside. it was then that he realized just how much he had come to love her voice and her personality, and it drove him insane every day after that. 

jin - y/n and jin have actually known each other the longest out of any of them; they met in elementary school. jin was that cute older boy who everyone liked and wanted to be friends with, and y/n was that crackhead younger girl who just wanted to run around with her friends and have fun. they were always kind of aware of each other, you know how you sort of know everyone you go to school with at that age but you never talk? they were like that. and then he left for high school and she forgot about him and that should have been the end of that - until she ended up at the same high school as him a couple years later and they made eye contact again on her first day. by then jin was growing into the kind of boy that did whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. so he did what he always kinda wanted to do and approached her- he asked her what her name was and if she needed help getting around. that’s how they actually became friends, but y/n swears they were always lowkey kinda friends because she’s a nutcase, and jin just lets her say that because he lowkey thinks the same thing. and there’s no telling when they started to fall for each other, it was always kinda there with them- an attraction like the strongest of magnets

The Time I Almost Decapitated Someone While Trying To Surf

Brace for a whole lot of pain and stupidity. It starts off a little slow but stick around for the AHHHHHHH As some of you may know, i am an intense klutz. As in I-Will-Trip-Over-Absolutely-Nothing-And-Probs-Knock-Over-The-Crown-Jewels kind of klutz. A Would-Trip-And-Fall-Off-A-Cliff kind of klutz I really need to drive this point home ok this is v important to this story So this is back in Peru (yes the same trip the chicken chased me off a cliff). Work is over for the day, the sun is starting to set, and all 40 of us Canadians are headed to the beach for our very first surf lessons So we show up and our instructors hurl wetsuits at us. I do mean hurl like mine wrapped around my face like a squid i nearly died before i even hit the water smh We get separated into groups of five and head off with our instructors. All the other groups had these young Peruvian guys and girls, all smiles and gentle teachers My instructor was a cranky 80 year old who never spoke and stared at us until we figured out what we were supposed to do Before we even get to go near the beach we start learning the technique on land. We lay down on these fake boards and pretend paddle and pretend stand, all in complete silence because who needs words right Im at the point of assuming our instructor doesnt speak english, which is totes cool cause we’re getting the message anyways. We’d spent three days working around the language barrier, now was no different. Moving on Our instructor finally deems us worthy of hitting the water so we all gleefully make our way to the beach. We were all sunshine and laughter, expecting the warm sand between our toes Not happening The beach is not soft like we had thought. It was rocks. Thousands of rocks and pebbles that sent us skittering as we descended the steep incline to the water First off: No one told me how freaking exhausting this crap is All those movies of people surfing like haha look at me this is so easy and majestic be one with the waves dude were straight up liars ok i was panting and heaving like a 90 year old race horse by the time i made it out far enough to catch a wave Cue twenty frustrating minutes of trying and failing to paddle fast enough to stay on a wave I thought i looked like Dash Incredible, majesticly spearing across the water from a horde of bad guys, my arms windmilling at break neck speeds Yeah no I was more of a drowning sloth if im completely honest Id make it maybe two feet by the time one wave passed and the next was already approaching Here’s where my surfing attempt took an unexpected turn Water splashed behind me and i didnt bother turning around. Probably one of my classmates heading for a better wave area “Need some help?” The voice was definitely not my classmates My instructor sat casually on his board behind me I was so shocked to hear him speak that i just nodded dumbly, not aware of what i was agreeing to. He hops off his board and bobs in the water for a second. He casually puts on hand on the back of my board like he was keeping me from floating away Behind him a wave approaches. I lay back down and get ready to paddle. I figured maybe he’ll tell me when to start paddling so i can actually catch this one but the wave is getting closer and closer and there was still no word from him.  I was long past when I started paddling before I hear this soft intake of breath and then, “BRACE!!!” I obey blindly and grip my board in terror wondering if there was a shark lurking beneath me Instead my 80 year old instructor absolutely freaking catapults me forwards i swear that man could launch Niel Armstrong into orbit single handedly NASA who??

Im rocketing along along, too stunned to move Im on a wave!! Im on a… wave????? I scramble to my feet thinking somebody better be seeing this cuz i will not be doing this again By some miracle i manage to stand ok i do not have great balance on land so sticking me on a board in the middle of the ocean was in no ones best interest So im whizzing along feeling like im flying and just generally trying not to face plant on my board or topple into the sea ok i just got up here no way i can manage it a second time Something about the water ahead of me doesnt look right The sun is glaring off the water just enough to block whatever that thing is. Im squinting, praying im not about to hit a rock It was so much worse It was a man He was casually chillin on his board, a set of headphones in his ears, looking to the world like he was asleep Im heading straight for this guy at top speed and as i get closer i realize two very important things I dont know how to stop … … Or turn I think of the wicked looking fins on the bottom of my board I remember mildly thinking this is gonna hurt before reality truly set in I very well might kill this man if i dont figure something out fast I start screaming and flailing with as much strength as i can muster “MOVE MOVE!!!! UNLESS YOU WANNA BE FILLET LIKE A FISH YOU GOT MOVE I CANT STOOOOOP” He casually lifts out one ear bud and looks at me with a barely audible “que?” “YOU GON DIE MOVE!!!!” Clearly he didn’t understand english, but flailing and screaming is pretty universal He leisurely lays back and paddles forewards, moving him ever so slightly out of the danger zone My board hits his as i pass so close i could have flicked his nose My board launches off his and by some miracle i manage to not only stay on it, but stay standing I twist and stare back at the man I definitely did not kill as he casually lays back down on his board Good. That would have been troublesome to explain to immigration officers on my way home I face the beach again and prepare to enjoy my calm landing and– I am less than five feet from shore going full speed SHIT I do what any sane person would do I jump ship

That was the biggest mistake of my life 

See just as i jumped for dear life the wave hit its crest and i landed right in the middle of it 

Suddenly i was a soggy pair of Canadian socks in the worlds worst dryer 

On a very important side note, i am attached to the board by a long thin cable that is velcroed around my ankle, meant to keep the board from drifting and keep me safe 

That cord is the bane of my existence 

In my Horror Dryer Extreme experience the cord had managed to wrap from my ankle all the way up to my thigh, digging cruelly into my skin even through the wet suit 

I slam into shore like a beached whale 

Remember kids: shore is not my friend shore is OW 

I slam into the rocks and lay there dazed for a moment, gasping for air. No way im going back out there ill just let the water wash over me im done surfing im done with the ocean 

But the ocean wasnt done with me 

Suddenly im getting dragged by the leg down the beach. I sit up, ignoring the stones slowly filling my pants. 

My board had gotten stuck in the out take and was dragging me out to sea once again 

I go through another round of Angry Dryer Mama Ocean and get slammed mercilessly back into shore, this time hitting my face so hard i split the skin above my eye. I still have a scar hidden above my eyebrow from this 

At this point i am done 

I try to stand and grab my board but the cord was still wrapped around my leg 

Our teams guide who just so happened to be a surfer comes running over to see if im ok. “hey! Get up! Another wave is coming!” 

I try to shout back “i cant, im stuck!” But that’s not what comes out of my dizzy mouth 

Instead i lift my leg in the air like a dog and scream “I cant! It’s winding!” 

My guide took this as “I cant! Im drowning!” 

He runs over looking like a stern third grade teacher “you’re fine just get up!” 

“You think im not trying??” 

Another wave slams into me from behind and im washed out and washed back in. Lil me cant catch a break 

Somewhere in the time id been brutally slammed back to shore my guide vanished. Fine then

 I quickly unwrap my leg and scramble to my feet 

Screw this, screw the board, im leaving!! 

I start sprinting for my life up the hill to safety 

SPLAT 

My leg is yanked out from beneath me and i face plant hard 

I didnt take off the velcro strap 

Washed out 

And washed back in 

I rip the velcro from my ankle the second i hit shore 

My guide appears out of nowhere and grabs my board and starts shouting at me to run 

I ask no questions as I scramble up the side 

Now, my guide, carrying two 50lbs surf boards makes it to the top of the hill just fine 

Not me 

A wave sucker punches me and drags me out again 

Washed out. Washed in. 

At this point im just accepting my fate to be forever bound by the sea im like the opposite of a selkie except the sea has my foot and i cant stay on the freaking land free me from my curse 

Eventually i make it up to the top and collapse like sweet releif i am free of this hell 

My guide sets my board down and looks at me. “Rekina. Stay here, the others are having a hard time too. Dont do anything stupid” trust me pal im going no where this is my home now tell my mother i love her 

(Honestly Never tell me not to do something stupid. It’s a sure fire way to make sure i do the absolute dumbest thing possible) 

I shoot him a weak thumbs up as he takes off down the beach, cackling at the poor idiot Canadians floundering in the surf. 

Youd think my Adventure was over 

Not a chance pal 

I sit up and notice one of my classmates in the same predicament i was in 

There wasnt even another option for my next choice 

I stagger back down the hill and help him up. I grab his board and all but shove him back up the hill and somehow we both made it up safe and sound 

Until we see our teacher not moving on the beach below us, her body getting battered and tossed around by the waves 

Our guide is nearly a kilometer away down the beach, too far for us to call for help 

I look at my classmate and he’s shaking his head like i am not going down there again are you crazy

I pop to my feet and race down the hill i am not letting my teacher die on my watch ok im not that kind of person fight me 

My classmate groans and follows behind 

I grab the teacher who was thankfully just stunned and unhurt and help her to her feet. My classmate grabs her board and they both start staggering up the incline far too slowly. I stay behind them to make sure they dont fall and hit the surf again. Happily they made it up just fine 

Not my ass 

Im slammed face first into the ground courtesy of a massive wave that just loves me too much 

The ocean gave me a friendly love tap as it dragged me down the hill and slammed me against it one more time for good measure 

I finally make it back to the top and swear to never surf again in my life (but let’s be real even near drowning cant stop me from trying again)

All in all a pretty successful first attempt

Yesterday (2019)

When I’d just seen the trailers and promo stuff for Yesterday, there was some great excitement in me. I loved The Beatles years ago, I mean, I really really loved them, I’ve got about 15 books on them, borrowed my mom’s credit card to shop online for DVDs of all their original movies when I was 14, etc etc, so Yesterday’s premise added up and seemed to look like something I’d enjoy: Danny Boyle, mysterious ultra-niche alternate reality in an otherwise utterly regular world, some kind of deadpan irony about the whole situation…

Then it came and went in cinemas and I never got down to seeing it. So I watched instead this film review by DazzReviews on Youtube, titled “Yesterday Missed A MASSIVE OPPORTUNITY (SPOILERS)”.  It’s a short and simple analysis of key weaknesses of the film, being that its actual contents greatly pale in comparison to its great potential. Even without watching the film, I understood Dazz’s gripe because even seeing snippets of the film bored me. It is such a unique, and almost cute idea afterall: a blackout causing selective loss of memory in every single individual in this world (save for 3, later to be discussed) where post-blackout, The Beatles and other cultural/social phenomenon do not and have never existed. Our protagonist, who pre-blackout was a struggling singer/songwriter, then decides to release Beatles songs from his memory as his own, thus gaining global popularity and attracting immense adoration. It’s not novel, perhaps reminiscent of time-travel narratives idk, but it’s still fun right?  

Yet even after watching this review video and understanding the film’s flaws and being able to imagine how disappointing the film would have been, watching it in full for myself was still an upsetting experience. Google tells me that Yesterday is of the ‘Drama/Fantasy’ genre, which gives me a good starting point for my critique: how utterly un-fantastical it is.

Our protagonist Jack Malik is LITERALLY the most vanilla, ungrateful, boring, not-alive, nothing-at-all, annoying, pathetically male (in terms of tantrum-throwing and ingratitude) character I have ever seen. None of this is hyperbolic, his character literally sucks so freakin much omfg, absolutely devoid of any redeeming or even remotely INTERESTING qualities at all. In fact save for maybe one scene (which I will talk about below), I don’t think there was another single second in the entire film where we saw him smiling. This is not to say that he’s portrayed as especially tortured or depressed in demeanor, merely to indicate his absolute dearth of warmth and personality.

Meanwhile, it becomes clear as the boring film progresses boringly that Yesterday is in fact nothing more than a love story. The cute Beatles twist is merely a device to show us how Jack and his “love interest” Ellie (inverted commas cos their love sucks omfg I cant imagine that ANYONE viewing it is convinced) were in fact meant to be, with Jack’s momentary superstardom existing to show him that all he ever wanted was his old life, the one with Ellie (even though they were never together because THEY ARENT EVEN MEANT TO BE IN THE FIRST PLACE OKAY….). But, just as Jack’s character itself is flawed and awfully written, our female protagonist Ellie is SOOOOOO early 2000s. Just think of the most typical stock supportive, sweet, pretty, unfailingly kind and patient female whose presence is taken for granted etc etc… So her stock sweetie pie female character coupled with the most unbelievably charmless and unlikable male character make for the most unshippable couple you could possibly imagine. We are supposed to be charmed by her obvious-to-everyone-except-him love for Jack, supposed to have our heartstrings tugged by the singular scene of teenage schoolgirl her standing by the wings of the stage with hearts in her eyes while teenage schoolboy him sings a most soulless rendition of Wonderwall but it literally does absolutely nothing. The means has not met the end! This is a grossly uninspiring love story and there is no fantasy whatsoever!!

Honestly how is this even a Danny Boyle product? But then again… Zhang Yimou, boasting the incredibly genius Raise the Red Lantern (1992) on his resume, also did The Great Wall (2016) so I guess even heroes have the right to bleed or even the best fall down sometimes or something. OMG WAIT  I just googled the film again and not only is it directed by Danny Boyle but also written by Richard Curtis LOL wtfffffffffff okay this is the worst film ever seriously

Early on just after the global blackout thing, before Jack becomes the huge superstar that he does after his music (“his” music) is released into the world, when he first decides to use the songs of The Beatles, he is cajoled by his parents into performing for them in their humble living room. (by the way his parents are played by Sanjeev Bhaskar and Meera Syal who I have LITERALLY seen in about 1000 British TV shows and movies by now… idk maybe Yesterday was intended as a semi-ensemble cast film? Since there are other “appearances” by other known faces… ok whatever.) I guess this scene of him, superstar-to-be, sitting down at his piano in the claustrophobic living room with his parents exaggerating their domestic inclinations and comforts (by holding their cups of tea and settling themselves into their sofa-chairs etc) is meant to be comedic, we’re meant to laugh at how his parents have no idea the genius that is about to be released unto the stratosphere embodied by their all-great son Jack Malik, and it’s a predictable scene: his parents get disturbed by the bell and other things in the first 10 seconds of his performance, so Jack has to begin Let It Be 4 times over and never gets past a few lines… and okay, it’s funny because they are treating Jack’s “performance” as such because he has never before produced anything worthy of actual attention and has never performed in any manner that has demanded any respect given that he was an absolutely mediocre singer, but the scene is ruined by how Jack was written to have to react. Instead of taking it in his stride and recognizing that his parents are taking it so lightly because they have no idea how big the song is going to be because they have had no reason to expect anything great of him before, Jack throws a big fucking tantrum and asks why they cannot and have not respected the greatest song to ever be written etc etc… and okay, maybe this was intentional because we are to infer that Jack’s reaction is a projection of his own insecurities about releasing entirely unoriginal songs as his own, perhaps he has doubts about whether they would do as well as they did when The Beatles themselves released them, perhaps he has doubts that he is the right person to do this at all, anxieties and fears about being able to get away with it all… Sure, but I don’t want to give the writers the benefit of this doubt. If I were to watch the scene with my eyes and ears and not my brain, all I’d see is a dumbass manchild with a temper and ego problem incapable of accepting responsibility for the decisions he’s made, plus being unnecessarily cruel and disrespectful to his simple parents who want only to support him, if superficially. Basically, he’s dumb and the worst protagonist you’d want for a romcom.

But let it not be said that I am an extremist with my views: there was one sub-plot that showed promise and that made me think perhaps there was more to this film than the nothingness it had conveyed hitherto. When Jack played in Moscow, as an opening act for Ed Sheeran, we saw the haunting face of a large man in the crowd, carrying a knowing look in his eyes. It gave us a great sense of unease, seeing his concerned face contrasted with the throng of pretty girls screaming their hearts out (you know, à la “Moscow girls make me sing and shout”). Then later we see an English lady (played by the iconic amazing Sarah Lancashire who I know and love so so much from Happy Valley), who like the Russian man, carries the same speculation in her sharp eyes, as she sees Jack manically making his way through Liverpool, visiting key landmarks like Eleanor Rigby’s grave, Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane etc because, as she says to him later, “you cant write songs about places you’ve never been to”. So anyway, this odd pairing make up the only 2 other known humans in the world who for unexplained reasons also remember the existence of The Beatles, and thus recognize that Jack’s positioning of the entire Beatles discography as his own original work to be fraudulent.

So we as audiences who hardly care for this dumbass Jack but have still held on to some hope that the film would bring us some element of surprise and karma for this annoying fraud (whose singing voice by the way is literally the most forgettable ever), we would have loved nothing more than for Jack to face the sound of music (as Mother Mary comes to him). But instead of, I dunno, chopping his head off or outing him to the world, the mysterious duo thank him for bringing their much beloved Beatles songs back into the world, the whole who has forgotten them. They thank him for doing justice to the memory of the greatest band of all time, and together the duo and Jack dance and cheer in a side room minutes before Jack goes out to perform for the biggest crowd he’s ever played to. It’s just…  lame and not even a satisfying easy way out. Oh remember above when i said there was literally only about one scene of Jack smiling, this was it. And he only smiled because obviously he was relieved at not having his secret revealed to the world by these two..... ughhh WE DONT WANT TO SEE YOU HAPPY!! WE HATE U!!

Okay haha I shall end this as I do all my other ‘reviews’… by saying that I’m lazy already and cant really be bothered to continue but shall conclude by proclaiming that this film sucked… not in a remotely camp or quiet or interesting manner either. It was just boring and bad and of great disrespect to the music of The Beatles.

Call-Out II: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So ya’ll pretty much know what the fuck is up. It’s obvious. I log on. See people playing on this gizoogle shit and at first it was all haha because I was stupidly giving people the benefit of the doubt but after a while and some brief research on gizoogle (John Beatty was enough for me to be honest) this shit legitamately started to make me fucking sick.  So that’s when I started to express my distaste for it and that’s when things started getting uglier because the responses that I was getting were making me very upset. 

Now, what ya’ll DIDN’T see was when I really started to get pissed the fuck off. I explained IN DETAIL in the chat room WHY this shit was aggravating the fuck out of me. I had explicitly stated.

I am the only Black  girl in the chat room in a room full of White/non-Black people. Predominantly White to be honest.

On social media and OFF, I had been dealing with racism left and fucking right.  In every aspect. I’ve had to drop friends I’ve known since I was little and the list continued to get bigger and bigger throughout my second semester of college. Gotta witness racist White misogynistic people slandering the name of God with their gross views and picket signs, harrassing students in my city on my college campus. Gotta deal with bad news on the news about my people being mistreated every goddamn day. A nigga just got sent to jail for 20 years ANYWAY after being found NOT GUILTY in court. 64,000 Black girls went missing in Washington D.C., the motherfucking FIRST Black Muslim female judge had been murdered along with another Black judge. You got niggas bein ran over by cars driven by White people just because they Black. KKK rallies goin on in Charlottesville. Bill Maher callin himself a fuckin house nigger on national fucking television, REALLY? Betsy Devos, the head seceretary of our fucking education doesn’t give a flying fuck if motherfuckers are discriminating against people in schools.  Black girls gettin kicked out of school because of the fuckin hair that grows out of their fuckin heads. And the only reason I’m mentioning it now is because I never got a chance to really get on her about it. I feel like I really should’ve cussed her out right then and there that’s what I shoulda did instead of just letting her get away with that.

I m now on my husband s health insurance, which is basically worthless because our income is under $20,000/yr and the policy has a $4500 deductible plus 20% after. I haven t seen my oncologist for over a year because we can t afford the expensive scans, biopsies, and lab work associated with cancer follow-up with a deductible that high. I thought my situation would change in 2014 with Obamacare. I recently learned from the healthcare.gov website calculator that our income is low enough to qualify for expanded Medicaid (which our state decided not to expand), but I don t qualify for the health insurance subsidies I desperately need because the outrageous deductible health insurance from my husband s job covers spouses. How can a couple with an income so low they would qualify for expanded Medicaid be ineligible for subsidies? I am completely devastated over this and I don t know what to do. Not being able to afford cancer follow up care is putting my life in danger. Even if my husband s employer (Walmart) quit covering the  spouses of full-time employees, I think that would only apply to new hires because of the grandfather clause. If getting subsidies was based on income alone the way it should be instead of access to employer provided coverage, I would qualify for a zero deductible policy and $3 co-pays with a monthly premium of around $60. I could then afford the expensive  health care I need. We live in a college town so if my husband got a different job, he d make even less than he does now and we would probably end up homeless. If my husband transfers and we move to a state that s expanding Medicaid, I ll have to quit school and get rid of my German Shepherd and Siberian Husky since it s almost impossible to find a landlord that allows them. We thought another option might be to get a divorce on paper and co-habitate until our situation changes (completing my degree and getting a good job so I can afford the deductible), then re-marry.  When I asked about that, someone actually accused me of wanting to commit fraud! How can anyone think of something like fraud when a situation is endangering someone s life? I am desperate to somehow qualify for health insurance subsidies without lying, which could get us in trouble. 31st Oct. Last Day of the Month

I woke up early this morning so I can cruise down to Fushimi Inari Shrine and complete the 2 hour hike. I wanted to do this last time but again, not enough time. I wear my active wear today because it’s going to be huge. I’m ready for this!

Jump on ya bike, and I think it’s going to take about an hour to get there… I set off and I’m already hungry. A coffee and banana just doesn’t cut it. Stop at 7/11 for sushi break, oishii!!

I make it to around Kyoto Station area and see a 2nd street, hmmm so tempted but maybe on the way back! About 5 minutes down the road there’s another one, it’s a sign and I must go into this glorious op shop! I have a look around and it’s all pretty spenny. There’s a pair of shoe for about $400 AUD. Wow that is huge! The cheapest thing I found was about $20. Nah i cant be bothered, I need a bargin in my life. Miho sent me an email yesterday with some 2nd hand shops near my accommodation so I’m really keen to check it out, maybe tomorrow.

It takes about 2 hours to get to the shrine! Not exactly what I expected haha, I’m already tired. I walk in and there’s soooo many people! If there’s one thing I’ve learnt while being in Japan, it’s that I absolutely hate big groups of people. Who would’ve thought!? It stresses me out so much and I tend to be a fast walker so get stuck behind a lot of people. I don’t know how the fuck people dawdle all the time.. it must take them 3 times as long to get to places! I head up the passageway and through the red structures of Fushimi Inari Shrine (the most popular of Inari because it sits at the base of the mountain). It truly is amazing but it’s so loud and everyone has forgotten how to walk. If 1 person stops for a photo, then we all have to stop apparently. I wonder how many photos I photo bombed!! I’m sick of it! Let me get higher up where none of you fools want to climb!

Finally bliss. The people are slowly dying off because I am climbing higher and higher. There’s still a few around and we are all just as happy to not see so many people. This is what I came to see!! I reach a section where there is a beautiful view of the whole of Kyoto! Amazing! I carry on and jeez I’m working up a sweat. I haven’t done this much exercise since Adelaide, this is killing me… No-one is overtaking me so I think I’m going really fast. Stoked on efficiency. I reach the top and wonder through the shrines. They’re incredible. At the very top I notice 3 candles burning and next to it a huge, scary spider staring into my soul. If you think Aussie spiders are scary you need to look at this… it was black with yellow stripes and red on it. I wonder if it’s deadly? I buy myself 2 postcards from the store as a memoir. There are many shrines as you walk up the mountain, and at each shrine there is a store I couldn’t even begin to imagine walking that much of an incline to get to work every day! I guess we have it pretty lucky in a ski town where we only have to walk 20 minutes.

I head down and I am charging down. I can hear the muscles in my legs cry for help haha. I need coffee. Real coffee. There is a cafe almost near the bottom which I remember from last time. It is owned by an English man and they have a real coffee machine there! The excitement is killing me! None of this automatic bullshit! I order a cappuccino and a chicken, hummus sanga. Delicious and the coffee was like home.

At the bottom of the shrine there is a street market full of food stalls. Just a quick look of everything and I order some pork dumplings! Delicious, yum! Quick Google of where I want to go next. Maybe the Nanzen-ji temple.

On my way I get a little lost,I reach a dead buuuut pretty sure there’s supposed to be a road here not a train track!! Thank God I have the electric assist on my bike! I arrive at the base of Jojuin temple. The streets around here are pedestrians only and they are lined with souvenir, food, chopstick and many more shops. Lots of people again… I hate it and I’m leaving! I don’t even go in the temple because I’m so overwhelmed. I went there last year though so I don’t feel too bad. I was there with my mum and dad and we were lucky enough to see the most amazing performance of a dragon festival. It was truly incredible.

I find my bike and make my way up to Nanzenji temple. I have to make my way through a massive group of school kids, there’s maybe 100 of 10 year old kids. They were very cute and every now and then one of them would shout out HELLO! Haha bless, they must’ve just learned that in school. In amongst this chaos I take the wrong turn. The sign back where the school kids were said 300m and I have done maybe 1km since then. I take the next right towards the mountains and hope for the best. I happen to stumble across a temple named Eikando Zenrin-ji. At first I was a sceptic because it cost a little more to enter than other ones I have visited. I walk in and I am speechless. The colours of the trees are incredible. I take my shoes off and walk in the temple. First is a Zen garden which then leads you in a beautifully unique, wooden walk way. As I am walking I can hear someone singing. It sounds like a ceremony is in progress, it’s getting louder. I walk through the passage way and around a beautifully structured building. The doors are open and tourists are welcome to come in and watch the ceremony take place. This man’s voice is incredible! He manages to make a tone that I can’t even begin to describe. I sit and watch for a while and as it’s wrapping up I walk out and keep following the passage. The next building along had amazing art work on the wooden fixtures outside. I’ll put a photo up. So bright and colourful! Make me happy looking at it. The next along the passage are some stairs. They are very steep and I can see some elderly people struggle with them. I climb up and the view is amazing! I can see parts of Kyoto with a temple in the foreground. Lovely. After the temple I explore the garden. It truly is amazing, the colours are so vibrant. Some trees are even a very golden yellow. Everyone is getting a photo in front of one particular one so I give it a miss. There’s a restaurant that overlooks the lake and there’s an island in the lake connected by a bridge. Imagine living and owning this garden! Autumn is definitely the right time of year to come!

After leaving Eikando Zenrin-ji absolutely amazed, I make my way down to the Nanzen-ji temple. First stop is the Zen garden which was a highlight of the last trip. Still amazing, I sit alone with my thoughts for a while. The temple itself was great as well, it showed different parts of a home with many unique art works within the walls, gold being the primary colour. It has a rock garden too, I wonder if the rocks were there originally or if someone moved them? Their shape is so defined and different, someone must’ve sourced them from the mountains. The whole place looks so different in autumn. I was here last at the end of winter/beginning of spring which meant no leaves and barely any flowering (did see some cherry blossoms though which was incredible)!

I am bloody exhausted. It feels like I’ve done so much exercise today and my butt is so sore from the bicycle. Back home for me. It take ages making my way across the city and trying to dodge so people. I take the longest shower in the world because I have deserved it!! I’ll even try not to pass out of the floor. Then the bloody water turns freezing cold ahhhh! With the shower coins you only get a certain amount of litres to use and then it shuts the hot water off… brilliant! I’m not too worried though because unfortunately I’m used to Nissen showers in Falls Creek and they are so bipolar!!

Considering going out for dinner but I think my legs have stopped working all together. Shit I’m not going anywhere i am so dead!! Noodles and chuhai, hai! Night!
