modern day tommy boy just skraight up never sleeps/stays at his own house. he'll pretty much disappear on his parents for days, just text them he's sleeping at his friends' house. or he'll go to a party and crash there. he just never really goes home or, if he does, he gets into the house through his window at like 2 in the morning so he doesn't wake his parents up and is gone before 6. he has also slept in parks, in random stores, and a few times in a jail cell.

his name is edward anthony higgins (which is partially real life canon and partially a nod to fanon) and he despises being called ed or any version of his first name (father's name). he's okay with tony or anthony, though.

i base my race off of livesies and 92sies (with a bit of uksies). his looks lean more towards ben cook and his personality is a mix of mostly max casella and a bit of josh barnett. sarcastic. fast-talking. impish little prankster. sorta mean and rough around the edges. big joker. ugh i just adore tough guy race and will always write him as such.

strong. (you've all seen ben cook's incredible biceps, need i explain?)

i adore the smart race headcanon. dk where it came from but i lovingly adopted it in both canon and modern

albert's his best friend in every universe

he and crutchie and jack are thick as thieves in every universe, caught somewhere between brothers and best friends

Davey is sort of funny because, especially in uksies, there is so much anxiety there, but he speaks up anyway? He’s one of those people whose sense of right and wrong prevails over his anxiety and it just means that this shaking walking panic attack of a person is calling you out.

I think it means, davey is in that position then when he gets comfortable with you, he just doesn’t shut up. He can talk about anything and everything.

the other characters are all scared of both but the male brooklyn school lives in fear of the female brooklyn school. every time they have co-ed events the boys almost die

-race fiddling with the printing press and being told off by bill

-he then slinked over to spot like a kicked puppy and she patted him on the back

-hannah humming to herself as she walks to let jack into the office

-finch desperately trying to get davey to shake his (spit covered) hand and throwing up his hands in frustration when he won’t

-tommy boy offering finch his cross and finch kissing it

-crutchie muttering “for fuck sake” under his breath when les runs back to davey before their exit after the world will know after trying to get les to go with him

-katherine saying “the guy who paints places he’s never seen is calling us crazy” to davey instead of jack

-finch walking away with his papes balanced on his head during the finale

-finch holding onto crutchies hand for the longest time after he helps him up when morris pushes him

-on “you have laid claim to our world” roosevelt points at the newsies. henry points at himself, says “me?” and looks very pleased

-finch begging jack to not go for morris after he pushes Crutchie and getting v annoyed when he does

-the way finch is seconds away from a panic attack 90% of the time

-hannah telling bunsen to hurry up when they exit after pulizter asks to talk to jack alone

-matthew slipping as he comes off the ramp after letter from the refuge and you could hear him and whoever was helping him off (I think it was george) giggling

-romeo having to hold finch back from running to help crutchie when he calls to him for help

-albert holding up his hands like he’s been accused of a crime on “just give me a water”

-jack showing katherine his bag with “the world” printed on it on “I work for the world!”

-splasher lying stretched out on his stomach on the ramp and just generally being adorable

-jack purposefully choosing to single finch out when the boys are hiding on “whose got brooklyn?” finch is not in his line of sight (he’s behind him) and he deliberately whirls around to ask him (rather then just happening to see him)

-also them nodding very animatedly with the bags still on when finch is talking

-daveys “why don’t you come home with us- fordinnerImean” in one hurried breath

-watching jacks face when pulizter threatens crutchie, davey and les with the refuge is heartbreaking

-davey standing behind les with his arms around him and his chin on his head

-jack standing barely visible in the scaffolding reading the letter during letter from the refuge

Got any hcs on big brother Crutchie little brother Jack?

This has been sitting in my ask box for so long I’m so sorry I meant to get to it on the first day but I was so busy I just never did

Generally no I’m a big believer in middle brother Crutchie and older brother Jack and younger brother Race but I’m nothing if not adaptable and I can absolutely see the potential so here’s some things I just made up

They met when Jack was around 10 and Crutchie was 12, Jack had just gotten out of The Refuge for the first time and had no idea how to live on his own. He thought about what his dad did to keep them alive and step one was get a job, so he followed some newsies one day to the distribution center. While he was in line to get his papers he saw a kid with a crutch who was laughing and joking with everyone around him, and the kid came up to him and introduced himself as Crutchie and promised to teach Jack everything he knew. They were best friends in a day.

Jack was kind of a scrawny kid and Crutchie towered over him at first, but Jack hit a growth spurt around 13 and shot up above him. He still teases Crutchie about being bigger than his big brother. Crutchie tries to beat him up for it.

When Crutchie first got his slingshot (uksies moment Matthew Duckett you mean everything to me ever) he used it on Jack all the time. It got to the point where Jack can catch the pebbles or whatever he’s using that day out of the air before it hits him. Man’s reflexes are on point and he can thank his big brother for that. Crutchie calls it teaching him survival skills, and Jack hated admitting that it does sometimes come in handy.

Jack doesn’t like when people assume he’s older or has more power because he doesn’t like that other people think Crutchie is weak, especially when Jack relies on him for so much. Crutchie doesn’t really mind because he’s mostly learned to ignore other people’s opinions on him, but Jack never really gets over it.

(Hurt/comfort incoming)

One time when Jack got out of the Refuge after being in there for a few months, Crutchie found him on the rooftop instead of in his bunk bed. Jack cried for hours in Crutchie’s lap, trying to explain that the bunk room felt so much like the Refuge that he couldn’t breathe, and how scared he was being locked up, and how scared he was escaping, how scared he was of getting brought back. Crutchie was so shocked cause he had never seen Jack act like this before, and he realized just how much he was willing to do for him, and the next time Jack was at risk of going to the refuge again during the strike, Crutchie made sure he wouldn’t (uksies moment again and also newsies jr moment with the “Jack run!”), even though it meant getting sent there himself.

While Crutchie was in the refuge, all he could think about were Jack’s stories, and how broken he seemed every time he got out. It scared him to death to be faced with that, and he tried so hard to hide any weakness or pain so that he could be strong enough for both of them. It didn’t stop Jack from crying for both of them and not letting Crutchie out of his sight for awhile after he got back, for his own sake more than Crutchie’s.

Jack relies on Crutchie for so much. He’s his person that he tells everything to, and is one of the only people he feels like he can act his age around. He doesn’t need to be Jack Kelly newsie leader around him, he can just be Jack Kelly Crutchie’s little brother and that’s really the only thing that’s kept him going for so long.

Ok so since a few of my friends have been very passionate about Katherine lately I thought I'd also talk about her (and Denton) a bit, not specifically judging or calling out but just some thoughts I had on them personally. So who knows me knows I love 92sies and yeah I was mad at first for Disney shoving a Disney Plot twist (oh no the reporter is related to the villain, we can't trust her now) as well as a love plot for an independent working woman in and then even cut my man Denton when my ideal world would have both of them. (Additional info since seeing UKsies I am much more in favour of Jatherine but before that they had no chemistry for me almost which only made me more annoyed at the love interest thing)

Hear me out. So Denton is interested in the strike but at first definitely only a bit until Kony (or more rather the fight before where police is not stepping in but instead keeping children locked in so they can get hit and beat). In the world we have both of them working for the Sun I am imagining him seeing her drive and want to work, her aspiration and her feeling for a good story and telling her about it, saying she should maybe go to where the newsies hang out and ask about the strike as he knows she wants to get out of the social pages and probably doesn't yet know how big the strike would get. The very latest they'd both be there for the Brooklyn showing up fight (or just taking the picture before Kony, but I do like my world more with Brooklyn here early) and then both for different reasons get really involved in the strike, personally.

So not to talk more about the timeline but more about how different Denton and Katherine get into the strike and connected to the newsies. Denton has seen some things as an ace war reporter, I'm sure, especially terrible things and has most likely seen young boys fight, even if not in a strike. He's feeling for them as an older man who knows he isn't in their shoes, far from it, but he has empathy for them and sees how dependent on child labour the city is after a short while and also how unfair they are treated, admires their fight, but he doesn't get it all, which is where Katherine comes in. Katherine also has to fight, so so much, just to get acknowledged, just to work at all, and even then the newsies first and foremost react to her with misogyny, but she still knows their fight in ways Denton doesn't, knows how it is to earn almost nothing (because even if her father is rich her own money she makes is abysmally small, probably around what a newsie makes that doesn't sell 100papes per edition as as far as I read that is a Huge amount) and knows she will treat them as, in a way, people with an equal fight (at least after Kony).

Which is also fitting on the topic of "oh Denton paid their fees and food" Denton has most likely a lot of money as an older white man who was an 'ace war reporter' and is 'friends' with the governour (Denty *cough*) Katherine has almost no money she makes herself, it is unlikely that at this time she just has money from her father she can use, and she sees the newsies as people that she is sure wouldn't want charity and people just paying for their things (like food) and is therefore not only not able to pay their fees or for food but also at least wouldn't do much for food as they are both rude to her at first and she wants to treat them without thinking of them as "poor orphans where a rich socialite has to pay their food"

One last thing I do think she could see him as a father figure who actually supports her as Pulitzer doesn't seem to be fond of her working until he is bragging in front of Jack and Denton could be so supporting in the Sun, helping her with everything and even trying to get her stories. Just let them co-exist in peace

morris sitting on the struts above bronx just before the world will know

'where do you get off' from crutchie at the guard who throws Jack, davey, and les out of the world

not just some, all of the boys cover their faces in some way when they get asked who wants to go to brooklyn

finch and ike(?) not quite believing in the strike and standing over to the side on their own just before the start of seize the day

the third scabber clutching what i think was a crucifix on a necklace(?) when davey and the boys were trying to convince them to their side during seize that day

everyone driving the tables making general car sounds, with mike yelling 'get outta the way' in king of new york
