Wednesday & Tyler's Adopted Kid

So i'm actually thinking of making a story about this, but i've been thinking of Weyler's future kids and I can imagine them adopting in the future and I thought, what if instead of just adopting a baby or a little kid, someone approaches them asking them to take a teen in because he's a outcast and he's been getting in a lot of trouble and they figured if anyone can help this teen it would be the Addams family.

Wednesday isn't entirely sure about the idea, but hubby Tyler thinks it would be a good idea considering they always wanted to adopt kids.

Eventually Wednesday agrees and they take this kid in by the name of Rumor.

Neither of them know what his abilities are, but they quickly find out that he's a empath, he can manipulate emotions, feel peoples emotions, and can even feel emotions of objects that people have touched.

So in theory he could even hear peoples arguments by either being near them or touching a object they had once touched.

To clarify he's not a psychic or a reader like Wednesday but he's close too it.

Rumor Addams is 15, his parents died when he was young and he's been in a orphanage ever since, he has a record of being a juvenile delinquent, and is actually a pretty misunderstood kid.

He also has a secret gift that was given to him before his parents died from his father, it's a ring compass that unbeknownst to the teen has the ability to control time.

Because little does he know he's a descendant of Time Keepers that are in charge of keeping the balance of time in order.

Story Ave: Street Art and Powerful Themes Collide

Stories are supposed to be captivating and bring you into a world you know little about. Story Ave just does that as it immerses you in the world of Kadir and his bond with graffiti and the way it helps him express his emotions.

Led by Asanta Blackk as Kadir, we see a lot of heavy themes on display. Loss, grief, family, and choices. Blackk is phenomenal in the lead role as he feels the grief of losing his little brother and making a series of choices that could have a larger impact on his life going forward.

Every single person has faced a crossroads in their life where a decision is made. That is what this film showcases. We are in control of what we do, the consequences that arise from choosing one over the other and how we must live with the outcome.

Story Ave is a beautifully shot movie which puts the Bronx on full display. Every aspect of it. The good and the bad. Real stories don't hide the truth, they embrace it and that is why Story Ave is so captivating right from the beginning.

It is mostly after Kadir is given the task of robbing someone as initiation into a street art gang the film really kicks off. He chooses Luis (Luis Guzman) a lonely MTA worker with very little left to lose. Instead of hating on Kadir he asks to have a meal with him which leads to the two of them bonding.

It is really heavy at times as Kadir is forced to choose a life of violence or take the risk of applying to school and facing rejection. Blackk and all of his cast mates take this on well. We see the juxtaposition of those who tried hard and escaped the violence and those who did not.

Story Ave is compelling because there are so many people who don't escape the violence and who willingly choose it as way to feel like they have a place. We can tell any story we want through creative expression in this life. We don't have to choose a predetermined path in life. The relationships we have shape the choices we make in life, good and bad. All anyone can do is try and make the right ones given the circumstances.

When They See Us (Television Post)

"When They See Us" by Ava DuVemay follows the story of the five kids from the central park jogger case. The central park jogger case was a landmark criminal prosecution case that concerned the assault and rape of Trisha Meili, a jogger in central park Manhattan. The case gained national attention because the alleged attackers where five black kids ages fourteen to sixteen years old. This series depicts the police brutality and illegal actions that where taken by the NYPD to get these kids locked up for a crime they didn't commit, and how they lost their childhood as a result.

The main subject of this series is generalization and systemic racism, especially when it comes to dealing with law enforcement. The five kids where picked up by police, who where under orders to pick up any black kid in Harlem who might have been in the park the night of the rape. The police at this point had minimal evidence suggesting that the suspect was black. This relates to what we have been discussing recently in class about how race can be used as a way to generalize a population like we see in this series. once the kids are brought to the police station they are interrogated and berated by the detectives and in the end they are forced into making a confession video that implicates each other in the rape. The cops entirely ignored the rights of these kids in order to get the confession they wanted. This ultimately led to the wrongful conviction of the five boys and major prison time.

The scenario depicted in this film is just one of the many real world examples of systemic racism in law enforcement. unfortunately this is still a big issue in society but films and series like this really help spread awareness of some of the bigger issues in society. This is a great example of using digital media as a way of spreading awareness and support which has seen a major uptick in the past ten years. I think we need to keep making media like this if we want to see any real change.
