This isn't even close to a lost cause; in fact I feel like it's typical starting grounds for most ashen relationships.

The whole purpose of ashen romance is taking two trolls who are too fucked up to do anything normal and forcing them to figure things out. Crazy, unnecessary vacillation and breaking up is often part of the deal with those kinds of pairs-- if they were a respectable and healthy pitch romance you wouldn't be feeling frustrated enough to step in ashenwise in the first place!

I think being blunt with these kinds of idiots is usually the best method. Common methods of pitch flirting involve small, annoying gestures to begrudgingly get them into your quadrant-- pestering them every night about how shitty and unhealthy their relationship is and how they need to knock that shit off is a surefire way to get that to start.
