So I finished my rewatch of Once upon a time and I'm finally ready to share my unsolicited two cents on the relationships that caught my eye - if anything because I know they have cool names in the fandom.

Just a disclaimer: this is no ship war or so, I'm fairly positive towards many if not all ships mentioned below and I stand by the ship and let ship view and respect everyone's shipping preferences.

And, it's a very long post.

Here we go:

The Charmings

They were very sweet (mostly because they share not only a heart but also their single brain cell), the actors had good chemistry (obviously...), overall I can't really complain... I'm usually not too interested in relationships that involve 100% good people so I was not too invested in them but if one looked past their dumb & dumber vibes they were a good stability reference for the whole story for as long as they were there.

Captain Swan

I have mixed feelings for them because on paper, this pairing was supposed to have everything I like: bad boi and good heroin, both good looking, in theory enemies at first, etc etc. However I was not burning for them at the beginning because (1) Hook never really felt like a villain or a bad boy to me (I appreciate the efforts in later seasons to show that he did indeed some nasty stuff, but when he showed up at first and there was supposed to be the build-up of the enemies-to-lovers with Emma he was not villanous enough for my taste) and (2) I would have appreciated more if at the beginning Hook was actually disliking Emma as much as she was disliking him, instead of flirting with her from the first minute. But as said, I have mixed feelings because despite not yearning for them at the start, once they got together I liked their relationship and how he genuinely cared for her and she opened up to him, so in the end I'm happy for them. Also bonus point to Hook because he looks good in season 7 and he deserved it after he was punished with this emo haircut in season 5:

Swan Queen

That would have been soooo cool. Too cool for the times when this show aired, despite having two FF canon relationships later, but having the two main characters together was probably a little too much. Anyway, even if they were not canonically supposed to be such, they indeed had a good enemies-to-lovers potential from the start. But I'm also in awe for their canonical enemies-to-friends/co-parents development, I think their arc was really great and I looveeeee them as co-moms for Henry (regardless of whether their relationship is romantic or not). So I'm happy when I see Swan Queen content but since I'm also happy with Captain Swan in the end I'm also happy to see them as friends.

Golden Queen

Y E S

Did I say I'm only fairly positive towards all the ships? Okay I lied, because I'm not fairly positive towards Golden Queen, I'm dying for them. But again I also like them as buddies. As long as they do stuff together, possibly evil stuff, I'm in.

Golden Heart

This is another background story I liked a lot. It was brief but very powerful, intense and heartbreaking. I would not see them as an endgame couple but I like them as a past relationship that becomes part of each character's emotional baggage.

Outlaw Queen

Oh I was so sad when Robin died. I liked his character, the actors had great chemistry, and Regina NEEDED that happiness. I was very sad when Robin was taken away from her. And in a very silly way no less :(

Sleeping Warrior

Another ship I liked so much, I was rooting for them five minutes after Mulan's journey with Aurora began. How it ended was so heartbreaking, especially knowing that the show was not turning away from having queer relationships. I don't understand why couldn't they have them if they were fine with having Ruby Slippers or Mad Archer Very sad, but they live happily ever after in my head.

Rumbelle

Hmmm yeah, this is maybe another one I'm not so neutral about... I liked the concept of transposing the Beauty and the Beast on Rumplestiltskin. I was also fine with Belle being someone who in Rumplestiltskin's most evil times in the Enchanted Forest could see that maybe there was still a human behind the Dark One. However the middle seasons showed that Rumplestiltskin had only one true love - his power - and I was totally fine with it, and rooting for Belle when she decided to leave him. I think it was a progressive take to have her leave him and for a moment I was hoping they would raise Gideon as a separate but on-good-terms couple, until... she came back to him, even after all he'd done to her (including locking her up, putting a sort of tracking device on her, etc etc...) Sooo yeah personally I would have preferred if they would not have reunited.

Ruby Slippers

I was very happy to see a canonical lesbian couple, but I'll admit the development felt a little too fast for me, I mean they were shown together for like... the scene above? And it felt a bit bitter that when they decided to give a chance to two women it was not Mulan's happy ending - she deserved it so much, and she was standing there, watching. Not that Red doesn't deserve one, but... yeah.

Red Beauty

This one had by contrast some more development than Ruby Slippers in my opinion, because they showed them for some more time together and bonding, and in any case we knew both characters already since a while. I would have liked it if Belle would have gotten closer to Ruby during that hard time for her and then maybe it would have developed into something more.

Dragon Queen

Oooo yeah, they had quite some chemistry in there. Maybe more as a past relationship (kinda like Golden Heart), but I can totally see it. Love it.

Swan Fire

I think I was not 100% convinced by Neal at first, but then he grew on me, perhaps also because of his backstory. I was very sad when he died and I like Emma/Neal as a past story. Would have been happy to see Neal staying in the picture and in Henry's life.

Mad Archer

I liked this couple, they had a cute development and Robin really cares for Alice and sees her as wonderful instead of as just a weirdo. Maybe one of the things I appreciated the most of season 7 (besides RONI of course)

Now also one mention to two platonic/family relationship:

Wicked Queen

When she was the main villain in season 3, I absolutely HATED Zelena (although damn is she beautiful). She was really but really an irritating villain for me, especially for her treatment of Rumple (get your hands off him!). But then when things changed and she reconciled with Regina, I absolutely loved her and I liked how their relationship as sisters developed. Another thing I liked from season 7, I'd say.

Regal Believer

I mean, Emma & Henry also have a great relationship development, but the way Regina switches from being the Evil Queen for Henry, how he even loathes her at times, and how she proves herself worthy of being his mom, and shows him how much she loves him and how she will always put him first... this has no equals in the series to me. I love mom Regina.

The list is of course not exhaustive, as said I just wanted to say something about the couples that caught my eye.

gotta start with my reason for breathing. Doc and Deimos have such a fun, interesting dynamic to me. I kind of wish I'd started Tear in My Heart a little further back in time instead of where I did because Doc really did consider Deimos his friend before things got complicated, and that's something I'd wanna explore eventually. the late night talks out on the balcony, the business trips Deimos would tag along on both as protection and just as company, every doctors appointment that Doc attended with Deimos to make him feel more comfortable because he knew these things stressed him out. the yearning. it wasn't love at first sight for Doc but when he did finally fall it was hard. sure, always found Deimos physically appealing, but it was the loyalty, the devotion, the resilience, the ferocity; it was watching Deimos laugh to the point of tears over something ridiculous and seeing him genuinely smile for what might've been the first time in his life. he loves Deimos as a friend, a partner, a favorite weapon, a head trophy, and a priceless possession

on Deimos's end, it's more complicated. difficult for him to put into words. Doc is master, first and foremost, regardless of the nature of their relationship. not to say that Deimos doesn't have his own opinions or blindly follows orders. he follows orders with eyes wide open knowing damn well whether it's morally correct or not, and he does it because Doc is his entire world from the moment he leaves the Agency. everyone else is either afraid of him, wants to fix him, or wants him dead, but not Doc. Doc trusts him as he is and welcomes him with open arms even when he's angry and hurting. it takes Deimos a long time to sort out his own feelings, at first only viewing Doc as another leader to follow, this one much kinder than the last. a source of comfort when he feels like he's going to break. a distraction from the rest of the world. a scapegoat for every evil he commits, because at the end of the day he's just following orders. he wants to think that Doc could love him but considers it just a fantasy until he sees Doc hurting in his absence. when it's Doc's turn to drop to his knees and weep at the sight of him, clinging to him in any way he can and telling him outright that he loves him

and all of this could've been made way easier if they weren't stupid and Doc went "hey, I like you like you and want to be more than friends" or if Deimos grew a spine and said "tell me what we are or I'm done here." but they don't do that because they suck

specifically gonna blab about my vampire/vampire hunter au because I've been meaning to do that. total canon overhaul where Sanford is a vampire hunter that's been following a trail of grisly murders for months now, tracking something more intelligent and ellusive than he ever has before. entire families slaughtered, throats torn out, bodies left completely unrecognizable

which leads to Hank, skipping from small town to small town out west where these things can be blamed on wild animal attacks, never sticking around long because they know they're being followed. they could kill Sanford pretty easily but know better than to attract the attention of other hunters, and somehow their kills getting more and more gruesome isn't shaking him off their tail. gonna save myself a little time and put screenshots from discord rambling

I swear I'm gonna write it at some point

but yeah throughout this whole ordeal Sanford is convinced he's under some sort of mind control/poison that's making him feel like this because there's just No Way he's hot and bothered for a vampire. but he is and Hank knows it

Joking header aside- this is probably an unhinged ass deep dive into the Caretakers of Twisteds au so uh... Sorry if you wanted something sane I have absolutely no sanity I'm full of adhd vibes buddy :(

Part I: Au History:

It... Legitimately was supposed to be a one off joke fic of "what if Shanon came back to Gardenview and found them twisted?" and people liked it so much I made it a real au. Zilla writes it as crack as well, they're hilarious I'd highly recommend them.

Part 2: Au Lore

It's not much different from the original premise (the og au being the Caretaker Shanon au) and both have the same outcome; that being the handlers all coming together to give the toons a brand new start in life after they witness the horrors that happened at Gardenview. However - this is where they become very different. They're twisteds in this au, and now have many more problems than Shanon and Veronica honestly expected. The end is the same though, Vee and Shelly find their places in their new world and learn to embrace what they now have, and overcome their past trauma together. It's a very hurt to comfort based au I cannot lie.

Part 3: Characters

So we have a mix of ocs and canon in this au

I tried to talk about them all in brief summaries but it got extremely long and I nearly hit the limit... Lol

So

Instead I shall just say what's different because I'mma be honest, the canon characters look pretty much the same lol

Shanon just has scars on her arms and hands from Shelly chewing on her as a younger toon, and fluffier hair. That's it.

Veronica just has neater, longer hair.

Shelly and Vee are pretty much the same.

Gi is just a rainy day Gigi skin looking clone of a toon that occasionally changes clothes and loves slapping stickers on herself, often glittery star ones. Depends on the day, the mood. Absolute doofus I love her help

Vivi is an interesting one tho, being what was supposed to be Vee Version 2 and now a former shell of herself with no accessories, half a broken screen, a missing antenna and a broken arm. No casing on her arms or legs, same missing midsection as Vee, very sad girl. Donut fret tho she gets better I promise, she gets way better.

Part 4: Ships?

Just a short list of ships that appear in the au so far. Possibly will change, depends on my mood lolz

Shellvision - Shelly x Vee

Givi/Luvigi - Gi x Vivi (oc x oc woo!)

Part 5: Extra rambles yay!

The whole au is just honestly a bunch of traumatized souls coming together and making a better life for themselves after they were rescued from honestly - hell on earth. It's a mostly shellevision based series of fics but I genuinely love messing around with their setting and the other characters too, so it's a nice fluffy mix of warmth and sillies and yuri. Lots of yuri.

If I missed any important details or made any typos, I genuinely apologize, its 1 am as I finish this all out. Any lore/fanart/fics are under the tag you'll see on this post - the caretaker of twisteds au one. Yeah I misspelled the tag and never fixed it, I genuinely don't think I could go through and fix it now.

While it was never supposed to be a genuine au, I've been debating making an actual plotline and full on lore relevant fic series just like the original au, but we'll just have to see about that.

SPARRING oh my god ygs would spar together you cant change my mind. idk what kind of weapon you’d wield but if you wouldnt wield one then hand-to-hand combat works too.

im just gonna admit it, both of you would be kind of slow when it came to opening up. this is cheesy but ygs would have met through a school project idc what you say. you always spotted him in the library, was he hot? fuck yeah. would you admit that? no. im thinking it took you guys a long time to even get on a first-name basis.

alhaitham understands being misunderstood, he gets it. he masks his feelings, pushes others away even. this man is touch starved like seriously. he acts all “mr stoic” but this man could sob his ass of with you. even if you cant open up back, he’ll open up to you. i can imagine your relationship lasting a pretty long time(maybe up until,, yk). sure you guys would argue here and there but never to the point that pride would stop ygs from apologizing to eachother. he always knows when he’s in the wrong.

i always see those fanfics w chars reading to their s/o but like bfr who the hell likes being read to. like?? its so boring just let me read it on my own. rather than that i can imagine you two on the couch, as you read your silly/pos books and he reads something on like idk trees?? he’d probably ask you to teach him one of the languages you know:3

ygs probably wouldnt have announced your relationship. the first time alhaitham ever really said “yeah this is my lover” to someone else except you was when kaveh dropped the pile of books in his hands seeing a girl on alhaitham’s bed(he screamed like a seagull).

“Ready? Set? GO!”

At least that’s what Grogu thought was going on when Daimyo Fett described the situation, that got all the Sandpeople to line up on the speeder bikes that way. 

“Ready, set go? No, young one, that is not what I was saying to them. But I see your point. When the Clones were training on Kamino, they held many foot races and that is how they would start. I was telling them the direction and what to expect. We were going after spice runners. Those scum have always been a problem on Tatooine.”

“Boss, that may be true but the spice trade paid for a lot of the amenities here, including that bacta tank you’re so fond of.”

Grogu didn’t really know why that mattered. After all, the Jedi built almost all of their temples on top of old Sith temples. Just because something was bad didn’t mean everything to do with it was bad, or did it? Grogu wasn’t sure. 

He decided to ask his dad, who had just entered the room, with the Majordomo following him, talking a klick a minute while some how managing to sputter and sound apologetic.

“Hey, Fett. Your … uh… man here, says I can’t park the N1 in the forecourt. I’m willing to move it, but to where? I don’t want anyone taking pot shots at it.”

“Is this true?” Daimyo Fett aimed his question at Majordomo who was already bowing and trying to look small and unassuming. 

Grogu giggled at that. There was no way for a man that tall with lekku that long to look small or unassuming. 

“Remember Boss, I have that work crew coming in to do some improvements. No way are we letting anyone access to facility the same way we did when we retrieved your ship.”

“What are doing? Adding a pit trap and spikes?” 

Grogu tried not to laugh as he watched Fennec physically bristle at his dad’s suggestion and turn to the Majordomo and scold him for blabbing.

“Fennec, there’s no reason to use language like that in front of the child. He looks up to you, you know.”

Grogu smiled at the Daimyo. That was a nice sentiment but completely unnecessary. He liked Fennec just the way she was.

“He has to look up at everyone, Boss. Listen, Tin Man, just park your ship behind the rancor yard. We don’t have any bantha right now, so you won’t have to share it.”

Grogu was about to scold Fennec for the short joke, when he heard the rest of what she said. The bantha were gone? Where were they? When were they coming back? Why were they gone?!

“Now, now, young one. Don’t worry about the bantha. The tribe that you and your dad befriended near Freetown asked if they could add the few head we had here to their breeding program. We had two females and they could use them to help add to the over all population of banthas. After they have been bred they will be coming back here.”

“Won’t that be nice? Baby critters that are as big as a speeder when they’re born. But that won’t be for months. In the mean time that’s where you can…”

Grogu didn’t hear anything else Fennec said. The prospect of having baby banthas at the palace was almost overwhelming. He loved baby critters. They were so sweet and smelled so good and maybe, if he was very lucky he could have one of them imprint on him and he’d be able to ride it without having his dad tag along all the time. That would be so great. He could see himself making his way from Freetown to Mos Espa the way the Sandpeople had traveled for millennia. 

“Buddy, before you take your flight of fancy to Coruscant and back, I’m gonna remind you that all bantha are the property of the Sandpeople and they need daily care. We don’t spend enough time here for you to be adopted by one.”

Grogu sighed and sat down abruptly. His dad had really popped the bubble that had been forming all around the idea of being a bantha baby minder. Dank Farrik.

“Tell me, Din Djarin, how did you know that’s what he was thinking?”

Daimyo Fett asked quietly, just not quietly enough.

“He was holding his hands in the air and moving them like he was holding the reins of their rig. I could also tell that he was muttering something like ‘forward’ over and over. He does the same thing whenever people talk about that rancor of yours.”

“He’s just practicing for the first time he rides a Mythosaur. Lucky for you two he’s going to be a benevolent Mand’alor.”

Grogu could hear Fennec’s laughter, but strangely his dad and the Daimyo were both silent. He wondered what that meant.

Favourite character: this is soooo tough. I like Neil, Todd and Charlie the most I think they are some veryyy interesting and multifaceted characters

Hated character: Todd’s dad and mr perry

Favourite ship: it’s gotta be Anderperry. Basic I know but the amount I’ve wrote about them on here and the amount of essays and fics I’ve indulged in about them it’s so much 😳 other than that it’s charginny and mitts

Favourite scene: omg again it’s so hard to pick one, I think my top favourite scenes are the “no” scene, the Meeks and Pitts dancing scene, and all the happy cave scenes 🥺

Favourite poem: easily all of Todd’s poems. I love how the improvised poem was really his awakening in terms of poetry, and from then on he developed his talent

Favourite quote: fuckkkkkk there are so many I just gotta make a list. “what will your verse be?”, “I can take care of myself just fine” “no” “what do you mean no?” “no” and “Free up your mind, use your imagination, say the first thing that pops into your head even if it’s total gibberish” and there’s probably more lol

Songs you associate with DPS: this is a good question there’s a lot! “Let’s Have A Party” by Wanda Jackson because that’s the song Meeks and Pitts dance to, “Lover You Should’ve Come Over” by Jeff Buckley cause in my opinion it’s THE Anderperry anthem, and “A Change Is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke because it’s a song of wanting change and oppression and it’s melancholy and almost yearning

Favourite theory: not a theory in the fandom but in the outside world, Neil was gay even my 75 year old grandad said he was gay, I wish the wider public realised this. I think some people in society are apprehensive to talk about gay coding or gay themes in films because it’s taboo especially in cinephile/filmbro spaces online but that’s a topic for another day

Favourite symbol: I’m not really sure what this means but I think it means symbolism or foreshadowing? But I think I would say the way Todd runs to the dock screaming Neil’s name, which is the same place that they hung out together

Favorite theory: I read it somewhere here, on Tumblr. Remember the deleted scene where all the poets eat with their left hand to get rid of old habits? And remember the suicide scene? (of course you remember, it's impossible to forget that). Well, probably right-handed Neil shot himself with his left hand... (I don't remember the author of this theory, if anyone knows him let me know, I'll tag him)

Favorite symbol: Neil's wreath was made of evergreens. evergreens don't die in winter...
