but he and i were talking after some drinks, and he made a point that really struck me. about how he doesn't like being The Exception to the point, that he's still a man and has no interest in being anything But a man. so when people say stuff like that, he gets uncomfortable; not because He IS The Problem (like everyone who gives the "if youre saying not all men, youre the men" argument) but because it makes him feel ostracized from everyone. and idk, it really struck me.

we say stuff like that way too often in an attempt to exclude certain groups of people; and i feel like we end up excluding people close to us by proxy.

but yes anyways, one evening, mary looks at her strangely. theyre both gossiping about something mundane when mary pulls out a thick book. lily looks closer to see that it's a bloodline book, that's about the pureblood families.

lily wrinkles her nose in disgust. she was going to marry for love. not wealth.

she means to discard the thought and go to sleep, but now shes worried. and weirded out. no because what do you meann severus might like lucius. and why did that make her feel so grossed out. the last she ever heard of malfoy was when severus hung out with him to study together. and he'd wrinkled his pointy pale nose in disgust at her. he hasn't atleast, called her a mudblood to her face but she guessed that sentence ends with a 'yet'. she does not like this guy, and if mary did have a point that severus might actually like him, she would have to do all she can to get him away from sev.

and thus begins her hunt for information on one lucius malfoy.

a hogsmeade weekend comes, and she figures that sev still meets malfoy for fun. so she decides she'll go with him. and sev looks at her weord cause she never usually comes with him unless he asks but he doesnt mind. he does warn her that lucius is coming and lily smiles sweetly and is like, yes yes i knoww.

and so they meet up for the weekend and lucius sees lily and his whole mood sours and lily's just glaring at him the whole time 😭 both lucius and lily silently judge sev the while time they're there. like why does he still hang out with this muggleborn while lily's like i don't see what you see in him sev he sounds nasty. and worsee he likes dark magic.

but sev ignores them both and decides enough is enough and that they will just have to put up with each other. it doesnt end well obviously and lily ends up shouting at lucius while he just gives her a deadpan expression that conveys. "okay you little child." but he doesnt call her mudblood cause he know sev wont speak to him for a looong time and lily's trying to bait him into saying it. but he doesnt budge.

and shes not. stupid, she knows it's cause lucius doesnt want to lose sev but something inside her loosens. at least hes decent. she guesses. and so the weekend comes to an end and lucius doesnt spare her a glance.

his indifference infuriates her. and shes just baffled that sev puts up with this guy. so she starts taking drastic measures. she starts by introducing her gryffindor friends to severus. severus is appalled at first. like.. no way in actual hell would he isolate himself even further by mingling with gryffindors than he already does, would he? WRONG.

lily evans has a spine in this universe! so she catches severus when hes walking to classes. she also brings her friend group with her and both parties are mortified. because they would never want to be seen with each other. but they see that hes not a blood supremist and decide hes not so bad. he just needs a makeover.

it's christmas break. and usually, lily would go home to celebrate, but this time, she decides to stay because she wants to make sure severus doesnt go revert to his old habits of just hiding behind the other slytherins. and also because she doesnt want to see petunia for a bit 😒.

james decides to stay as well cause he hears lily's staying. sirius stays because james is staying. soo, during christmas break severus tries to avoid the gryffindor tower. lily is having none of it, though. what if he decides to owl malfoy again?? so she drags severus over to the gryffindor common room and seeing that james looks like he's going to punch severus, she yells at him. she explodes that if he ever wanted a chance at going out with her.

he'd have to be nice to severus. james of course, lies to her as he always does. and they have a truce for as long as lily is in the room with the both of them.

and so the break just continues like that, with lily trying to integrate sev into gryffindor culture. she even drags him to a quidditch practice match and makes him wear a gryffindor scarf. which she of course, takes a picture of and owls to malfoy. "he's MY friend too" the caption says, and severus is glaring at the camera in the photo.

and then lucius owls a photo of severus petting a peacock in malfoy manor. lily retaliates by sending him a picture of severus getting his hair braided by the gryffindor girls. lucius sends her a picture of him teaching sev how to drive a broom.

and this goes on for a WHILE ajshdhhd and severus finds out. SAFE TO SAY that hes APPALLED bro is regretting his life choices. he should have never introduced them to each other. lily and lucius are now both laughing AT him. TOGETHER.

and the worst part is that lily's now talking about how much she hates lucius and his shiny hair and his stupid posh accent and his slytherin-ness (excuse you lily) and his shark-like grin (what does that even mean) and severus is TIRED of it. hell, he'd take her complaining about james any day over this cause atleast they both hated james.

now that lily's with severus a lot more, (to trash-talk lucius) and because he has a better rep in gryffindor now, james is forced to back off a little because well. severus has real friends now. so james stops hounding her for now. but time flies by and it's their 5th year. the prank doesn't happen because as shocking as it is, sirius seems more interested in arguing with him over schoolwork or sending him dumb howlers to the slytherin table to annoy him. lily doesnt know what thats about. but james.. oh james is pissed. he's really fucking pissed at severus' existence (he always was) but now it's gotten even worse. and the worst part is that he cant do a thing about it because lily seems to always be with him. thats what lily tells herself anyway 💀. he also seems really irritated at sirius, but he doesnt show that in front of him of course.

and then theres news! there is news that narcissa black is getting engaged to rodolphus lestrange. narcissa, while being a distant friend, still invites severus and lets him bring a plus one. thats obviously lily. well. usually, lily would decline, because she hates stuffy pureblood culture, but shes been hearing rumours about lucius and narcissa being a thing, so for her to be suddenly get engaged to rodolphus is a surprise, so she just goes along for the fun of it. james would probably be there too and severus wont go if she wouldnt come along.

so they go and woww lucius is there too, politely mingling with the guests. he spots her and his face does a weird expression, as if hes trying not to laugh. and lily would be offended if she didnt remember that this was the first time she and lucius were in the same room since severus discovered that they'd been sending pictures of him to each other as a form of proxy war. so thats their little inside joke and they have a good evening. sirius is there too but he doesnt even glance at lily. james isnt there, which is actually a surprise. so theres no fights. lily sees narcissa but narcissa doesnt even glance at her, just like sirius, and it sours her mood terribly. so terribly that she ends up sitting in the corner.

she watches narcissa and rodolphus dance and shes suddenly struck with the realisation that shes surrounded by people she'd never even have considered surrounding herself with, a few months prior, all because she was nosey about lucius. she doesnt know what to think of him. he doesnt outright hate her, but he's also indifferent towards her. despite the few letters shes exchanged with him, he doesnt really seem to think that they have some kind of friendship.

and she feels bitter. well, she'd thought that maybe she'd have been able to stop sev from hanging out with him, but obviously thats never going to happen since shes the one that's come to an event just to see him but oh welll. until she hears someone clear their throat. she turns, and speak of the devil. it's lucius. he passes her a drink and she takes it. hes like oh what brings you here?

he looks nice, lily thinks, all neat and tidy with his hair in a pretty bow. hes very masculine but in a peacock way.

she likes it.

so she tells him that she came to keep severus company and also that she heard rumours about narcissa and him. lucius laughs about it. he reveals that what she heard was true, bellatrix was meant to wed rodolphus but then she decides to run off with some halfblood named tom riddle who was like 20 years older than her. and lily feels her eyebrows raise. she's like OH??

and lucius starts talking maddd shit about this tom guy and lily actually laughs. but then he sombres and says he actually kind of liked narcissa. and lily's internally like ew thats grosss i could neverrr. so she asks who hes going to wed and he raises his eyebrows and says lily's being incredibly forward and lily just laughs. they make small talk and severus joins them. hes all "well, well well! look who's having a civil conversation !" and lily and lucius snicker and then they just talk about random stuff and lucius tells them the scandelous affairs the purebloods have with each other and gossip and severus tells him his peacocks piss him off and they both start squabbling and lily's just grinning at the both of them.

then sirius spots them and moves to join them and obviously it ends in a fight and lily's good mood is ruined but before anything can get worse, andromeda joins them and mediates. lucius looks as relieved as lily feels. regulus is sulking in the corner as barty's yapping his ear off. evan is chatting up abraxas and so the evening ends on a slightly good note. then 6th year and 7th year go by and sev and lily stay good friends. the bullying almost tapers off to a full-stop, but apparently, james and sirius have a massive fight at around the end of 7th year and lily finds james alone at the common room one night before she realises this and james is asking her why she wont date him. and lily's like im not interested. james wont take that answer and rehashes that hes changed and that he doesnt target anyone anymore. hes angry about this for some reason but lily brushes it off and tells him she'll consider it and to give her a week to answer.

james acquiesces and leaves the next morning, she sees that james and sirius are sitting on the opposite sides of the table instead of together. remus is nowhere to be found and peter is eating toast right in the middle. woah whats up with them she asks severus later that day. severus shrugs. no idea, he says.

a week passes and seeing that james doesnt hex as many people as he used to, she decides to give him a chance and they become official. severus gives her a massive side-eye but doesnt say anything. they graduate and lily thinks shes living the dream. james is rich, hes nice enough. hes. kind of an asshole sometimes. but not to her so it doesnt matter yk.

then there comes a time for her to introduce james to her family and it goes terribly. absolutely horribly. shes left in tears by the end of it. so she crashes at severus' apartment all snotty and with her makeup absolutely ruined. but it turns out that severus isn't home. but the house isnt empty. lucius malfoy olens the door. theres a green streak on his cheek and hes holding a ladle. he raises his eyebrows as soon as he sees her. what happened to you?? he asks. and lily... lily bursts out laughing. his eyebrows raise so high it touches a strand of his hair. shes laughing so hard, she starts sobbing.

lucius looks perplexed and kind of shocked, so he gently pulls her by the elbow into the apartment, sits her down and gives her a glass of water. lily takes it gratefully and she sits in silence for a while, watching lucius stir a cauldron. it suddenly occurs to her that the last time she saw him was four years ago. hes taller, taller than james, a voice in her head supplies, and well, hes always been handsome but now shes really looking.

"when's the wedding?" she asks, seemingly out of nowhere. she heard he was engaged to andromeda, but there was no further news. lucius pauses, blinking into the cauldron. he sighs, running a hand through his hair.

"you would laugh."

lily gasps, smiling a little. i'd never, she says. lucius says andromeda ran away with some muggleborn.

lily bursts out laughing. how unfortunate! and lucius stares her down. "see, i told you you'd laugh," he says. "sorry, sorry," she replies, still snickering. lily asks lucius what hes brewing for severus and lucius mentions a potion shes never heard of. lucius puts on a pair of severus' goggles and she stares. hes like really pretty unfortunately. he eventually asks why shes distraught and for some odd reason, she doesnt feel weird sharing the indignities james has put her through and lucius scoffs in disgust. lily finds herself feeling vindicated and her shoulders feel lighter than it has been in a while.

lily laughs a little as lucius starts badmouthing the potter family and she reaches out to wipe the green streak off of lucius' face and that is precisely the moment the door barges open and james storms inside. he sees lucius and he FREEEZES. like, full on fawking freezes. poor soul is so confused. he thought she'd be with severus but this is somehow even worse.

"good evening to you too, potter," lucius says, in-lieu of a reply.

lily already feels an imoending headache blooming at her temples.

james is like why tf is malfoy in snape's house?? and malfoy's like since when did i have to explain myself to yOU of all people?? and then james starts yelling at him and lily's tired of his bullshit and asks him to leave.

and just then, severus returns, holding a basket full of potion bottles. and he sees james in HIS apartment and loses his shit and starts yelling at james. james tries to get his wand but lucius disarms him and then james is shouting at both of them lily realises. finally. FINALLY that MAYYBEE james isnt that good of a person yknow? he kinda sucksss like absolute ass. hes trash.

so she breaks up with him right then and there. lucius raises an eyebrow in amusement and severus snorts. james goes deadly silent and leaves.

and then lucius asks both lily and severus if theyre both alright and severus laughs. best day of my life he says. he also tells her that she has a bad taste in men. oh no, lily thinks, i do have a bad taste in men, just not in the way severus means, she adds, silently staring at lucius who's already getting ready to leave.

lucius is about to get out through the door when she stops him.

"do you want to go out? for, like, ahm.. dinner or something?" lily blurts out.

severus makes a sound vaguely resembling a dying horse.

lucius blinks. lily grins at him, slightly maniacally.

fine, he says curtly. he sets a date and time and leaves.

WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT???? severus screams as soon as he leaves

lily collapses on the couch and giggles.

so anyways, they do go out on a few dates. abraxas threatens to disown him but lucius is tired of his arranged marriage attempts running away with halfbloods and muggleborns. it's his turn now.

and besides, lucius is a better businessman than abraxas, so he manages to double their wealth and even abraxas can't say anything. severus is regretting every decison hes made in his entire life as he sees lily and lucius walk hand-in-hand but at least they stopped BOTHERING him with their angst and complaining. he takes every chance he gets to rub it in their faces that they used to despise each other. lucius and lily have a little laff about it and they live happily ever after!

one fine morning, james potter wakes up to read in the papers that lucius malfoy and lily evans are engaged.

he promptly faints and dies.

Ok Alastor shippers of all sorts, I'm going to put in my two cents and before I get into I'm a pro shipper all around just don't be mean to each other and tags are there for a reason.

My credentials: I'm an gray ace, aro person who's been around Fandom a very long time. Personally I've been initiated with the “but al is ace aro so you can't ship him” discourse and first off that's not true both because we can date -I Have a long term Partner- and because I've explored a lot of my queer identity through Fandom and fanfics and I think others should get the chance to do the same. I'm sure a lot of people will learn they’re ace aro because of alastor. That being said ik a lot of you writers out there aren't ace aro and are new to the topic so I'm going to go over some of my personal suggestions of how you could make Canon compliant works. (And if you do any or find any please send to me I'd love to see it)

Oblivious Alastor

Canonically this man doesn't know he's an ace in the hole. And I don't believe an egomaniac like him would assume that there's anything “different” about himself. ik when I was a baby ace I thought everyone was just being dramatic basically before realizing I was the exception. I can see this going 2 ways.

Radiostatic (pre show): vox is obviously completely smitten with al and al sees dating a more powerful overlord as an advantage(which vox in the past was the more powerful of the two). And Al starts getting slowly more and more uncomfortable and vox gets pushy in a very manipulative way.

Radioapple: enemies to friends to lovers? After Al and Luci become close friends, Luci starts to catch feelings for Al and Al agrees to date him seeing as he is fond of him and he's a very powerful ally so why wouldn't Al date him? As the relationship progresses they’re both confused by Alastor's behavior. Luci tries to be respectful. You know maybe he's just very against pda. And al doesnt understand why he's not feeling the things he's meant to.

I can see Al reverse heteronormativity- ing his way into assuming he's gay because he's NOT straight.

Malicious intent

Same as the last one except Al knows he doesn't have feelings for them like that and is trying to be toxic and uses them. IE what if Al was a gold digger actually.

Maybe I am in love?

Al actually thinks that he MUST be feeling a romantic connection because this is the closest he's ever been to someone and once again, gets steadily more confused as he realizes what he and his partner are experiencing is different.

All of these can end in nice queer platonic bliss and I think any story where Al and his partner discover he's ace after establishing the relationship is inherently interesting.

Last note some ace vocabulary

Ace and aro are a spectrum. Typically with ace people they will self identify as either sex positive, sex negative, or sex neutral. With Al it's generally head cannoned that he's sex negative but that's not explicitly Cannon and sex positive and neutral aces are valid.

Sex negative: is self explanatory it's what everyone thinks aces are; I don't want sex ever the idea grosses me out ect.

Sex neutral: is when someone doesn't have the desire for sex but isn't repulsed by it either. If they are in a relationship and their partner wants to have sex they’re open to it but don't expect initiation on their part.

Sex positive: people have a hard time understanding this because it's the seperating of the need for sex from the want. Typically if a sex positive ace were to never have sex again they'd die happy but if they have a willing partner they are happy to participate. It builds intimacy. It feels good, it's nice but it's not the same as being allo and having that cardinal lust.

note: please know what type your head cannoning Al as in your works when writing it, although people of course can change which they feel they align with, it's important to know how he's feeling about it.

I'm not as familiar with aro terminology but like with ace it's more about the drive the need the anguish. Al wouldn’t in cannon crave romantic connection.

Like with ace it's not actually cannon what type of aro he is some aro people are completely repulsed by the idea of romantic relationships or they only like it in theory (which playing around with the idea of Al liking a relationship in theory but not in practice could be a lot of fun.)

The gray romantic umbrella are aro people who can have romantic attraction to some degree. They’re still aro you can head cannon Al as it but please do a little research into which one you think your version of Al would identify with there quite a few so I'll spare the list here.

Demi romantic is when someone can develop romantic attraction for very specific people, very rarely. These people won't be on Bumble but might fall for someone after knowing them for a few years (or an indeterminate amount of time, my timeline was a year and a half I shit you not) a lot of you are looking for that.

sampo knows a LOT of things about belebog that no one else does some kind of like historical knowledge however i think the reason why sampo wont actually KNOw any floropgraphy is because with all his vast knowledge from across the universe as a masked fool, why would he bother to know something as ‘mundane’ as the meaning behind flowers.

to link to that, i think with sampos big world he sorrta gets dragged down to belebog in like a nice way and through gepard learns that the small things in life ACTUALLY matter or they noow matter. so for example these flowers he gets he never knows the meaning of them, def gets flustered by gepard initiating anything at all lmao.

i think sampo would ask around the underworld such as natasha, seele, even hook tbh about the meaning behind these flowers usually getting information from natasha. BUT he doesnt just outright ask he would like slip it into conversation because hes sly like that. Natasha very obviously catches on quite early on and although shes not as knowledgeable with the meanings she still retains enough information for sampo to start relying on her to help decode gepards bouquet.

-Nightmare and Dream can be called she, it, he or anything else, they dont label things, That also counts for sexualities, races, genders and more, they are whatever you call them, they wont really care

-Dream and Nightmare has an older brother called "Savior" (Who looks like a papyrus)

-Dream and Nightmare hates their mom, Nim ruined Nightmare by manipulating him to do shit she's not able to do herself and also was one of the reasons for the Apple incident, Dream was neglected a lot by Nim since she was more focused on Nightmare, she was manipulative towards him as well

-Nightmare and Dream made a truce almost a decade ago, they are mostly okay with eachother (they both technicaly are good guys in their own way)

How long has it been, a week or 2? And as hurt as I am over the break up, I think it was necessary. We all can see that tommy was falling for buck. But I'm not so sure about buck.

From the first time they met buck was confused with his feelings for tommy. We all thought he was jealous of tommy because he was threatened by him. He thought tommy was cool, confident (his words). It turns out it was a man-crush. And then they date and I'm sure tommy behave that way all the time when they were together.

During the limited screen time we can see that tommy indeed falling for buck. Just the way tommy was with him. The way he show up every time for buck, the way he looks at buck, the way he take cares of buck. I'm not sure buck feels the same way with tommy though. I'm sure he feels a lot of affection for tommy and attraction to him and maybe even love. But not the passionate romance kind of way. The speech he gave before asking tommy to move in, that tommy is his most tranformative relationship he has after abby(maybe because tommy is his first man) , buck comfortable with tommy (sounds kinda platonic, like with a friend) buck admires tommy (sounds like a mentorship, hero-worship). It doesnt sounds like a love confession. It doesnt sounds like its going to lead to I love you. And then, buck ask to move in. I would freak out too if I was tommy.

Now I have a question. I'm not bi so I dont know. Is it possible that a bisexual person for example buck, who has multiple female partners and only has one male partner. I mean, he still bi right. That phrase 'I'm your first, not your last' and buck said it could be the same thing. It still can be the same thing even if tommy never comes back. It just mean that buck would never date men again. So the phrase can be true in some way. Tommy is the first and only men he ever been with.

Another question. Is it possible that buck was in a phase? Like his relationship with tommy was just a phase. I know a lot of parents would say this to their kids when they are in denial if their kids told them they're gay or whatever. The parents would say 'it's just a phase, it would pass.' Or 'they just confused', or 'they just experimenting'. Is it possible buck going through the same thing? At his age? Like I said, they successfully show that tommy was falling for buck, but I'm not so sure about buck falling the same way for tommy. I dont know if its because of the writing, or the limited screen time, or if the writers want it to be that way all along.

In the end I guess I get why tommy react the way he did. I dont think both of them meant to hurt each other, on the contrary. They care about each other very much. Which makes it more heartbreaking.

hihi! sorry for takin so long on this!! i was doing splatoons grand festival all weekend!!

but yes i can give u some of my thoughts on these guys >:)

adding a read more bc it got a little long whoopsie

ok so first off! my sexuality + gender hcs for them;

- kinji is transmasc and nonbinary (they/he) and he's gay (mlm, nblm, nblnb), his identity causes him some distress due to his role in the church and his father being generally unaccepting of queer identities (he also hides his true identity when at home, hopes peak is the first time hes publicly himself)

- teruya is agender (he/him) and gay as well, he does not struggle with his identity, but he did take a while to realize he only liked boys/non-women. he rly thought his dad wanted him to marry a woman, but it turns out his dad is very pan and doesnt care who he dates as long as hes happy :)

ive got a couple different scenarios that i have different scenarios based on what happens in them and ill just list some stuff from all of em

firstly the general stuff that happens no matter what !

- teruya is initially appealing to kinji simply because he's loud but not in your face about it (usually), kinji also really respects that teruya stands very firm on his beliefs

- teruya also has a really good memory, so he remembers gifts and things that kinji likes, he just gives him stuff he likes every now and then, and kinji finds it really sweet

- teruya also makes silly accessories for kinji, theyre all tacky and rainbow themed but he doesnt mind :)

- they both really enjoy healthy food so they end up bonding over that

- kinji eventually gets adopted into teruyas friend group (haru, satsuki, kiyoka), they got along in the gambling extra event (minus kiyoka), so i think theyd be friends!

- kinji ends up close with kiyoka who can see right through him, she KNOWS he likes teruya, but she wont pressure him (too much)

- also teruya just thinks that kinji is so pretty :)

next up is the stuff i have for the ch 3 survivor au (i will get/have gotten to a lot of this in art, so ill probably have less here)

- teruya is initially stuck with kinji because he is the only one who has medical knowledge (they say this ingame), and due to this he ends up being the closest with kinji

- despite teruyas lil breakdown in ch 4, kinji still ends up defending him in the trial due to having gone through something similar previously, and this is kinda when it clicks for real that teruya might like kinji more than he thought

- they both bond over how much they value family, teruya with his dad and kinji with the church kids being the most valued people in their lives. they both respect this about each other immensely over it

- teruya and kinji grow closer after being kind of outcasted in ch 5. teruya had recently lost his two friends, and tsurugi, rei, akane, yuki, and mikako are either standoffish, not willing to get close, or out of commission for one reason or another. they get much closer in this chapter

- they dont actually become a thing until after they escape

now i have stuff that happened if there was no killing game

- without the killing game, they would just be more of acquaintances longer, since the game isnt there to push them to interact

- eventually kinji is the first to realize he does like teruya, and this causes Internal Religious Conflict for him. being a catholic priest means that you cannot love anyone above anyone else your love must be equal. along with this, if kinji chooses to stop being a priest while in high school, he will no longer be able to attend hope's peak, as he would basically be giving up his title.

- kinji suffers from religious trauma, despite the fact that he finds comfort in his religion. this is because most of the guilt weighing on him is caused by his father, so they are rather estranged.

- this trauma isnt something thats fixed relatively easily, but to keep it short, teruya does eventually try to help him become his own person and cope with the trauma. teruya's free spirit really helps this.

- after graduation, kinji would likely prefer to be a pastor over a priest so he can have more freedom with romance.

- he also ends up working at otori mart with teruya, and they have a lil garden together at their home :)

one more extra thing! topic of marriage and kids!

- in any au where kinji lives, so like all of the above, teruya is intending to ask kinji to marry him, its just whether or not the killing games happening defines if he gets to or not

- when they do marry, kinji takes teruya's last name

- in a very specific branch of the kinji survivor au, which i call foundation baby au (this au hinges on mikado never starting the sdra2 killing game), kinji and teruya have a child (through a surrogate mother, setsuka!) named Takara!

- teruya wants to be a good dad like his father, and kinji already likes to take care of children, so its only natural that theyd want one of their own

- Takara calls teruya "papa" and kinji "daddy"

- they raise takara in a way where they can choose their identity and whether or not they believe in religion. takara has found out that they identify as nonbinary and gay (like fathers like child) and that they do want to take part in kinji's religion, they just dont do it as much

- takara interacts with everyone at the kisaragi foundation in some way, theyre like their big mostly-happy family!

- kinji and teruya are very good parents!!

I know the mike initiating a kiss or making the first move is a popular thing among bylers but i dont think that would be/should be the case AND HERES WHY 🤓☝ *mcyter with lists voice* (i get sidetracked so bear with me)

For starters; we've come to a conclusion that mike has internalized homophobia and there's plenty of evidence to back this up, he wants to be "normal" and in the 80s being gay was abnormal, this is a commonly known thing that's mentioned a lot amongst bylers and its precisely the reason i dont think mike would be the one to make the first move

Mike does everything in his power to be a normal person which is why i think he was willing to lie to el so easily in season 3

This is where i get sidetracked but really its just backup analyzing for this

Before gay marriage was legal, lavender marriages were everywhere or at least a fairly common thing, in case you dont know lavender marriages are marriages that were used to cover the sexuality of one or both of the people getting married, which i think ties in with mike and els dynamic (will get to that later)

Mike uses el as a cover or a way to be normal, its what he grew up around and its what he saw on tv gay relationships just werent considered normal

In season 3 mike lies to el so he can continue to see her, to continue to have a cover or something that convinces him hes "normal", and all they really did was make-out because "thats what couples do"

You have the season 3 rain fight which ive seen multiple people mention that mike was blatantly reflecting but ive never seen anyone explain it more - will says something about mike and el (seemingly) constantly kissing, referring to el as "a stupid girl" and while mike did defend el, he couldve just left it at "els not stupid", "its not my fault you dont like girls" did not need to be there. He felt like will was seeing through the amount of effort he had been putting into normal and panicked, saying something he didnt mean and we can visibly see he didnt mean it

In season 4 theres the rollerrink fight, another instance where mike says something he didnt mean or like to say - will complains about mike not sending him letters whereas el has "a whole book of them", mike tells him "thats because shes my girlfriend" to which will asks "and us?" Which mike once again saw as will seeing through mike and he panicked, feeling the need to clarify that theyre just friends and wont be more, wills follow up shows hes more upset mike doesnt treat him like theyre best friends than the idea of them dating, wills already accepted the idea that mike doesnt like him the way he likes mike

The letters isnt because mike didnt want to talk to will, he most definitely tried (sitting by the phone and whining about joyce being on the phone all the time making it busy) but its because EVERYONE in hawkins knows who will is and theyll hear about it him growing up, hes the boy who was dead for a week and came back literally all over the newspapers as "zombie boy"

Mike would not be able to get away with being seen as "normal" while writing and receiving letters from another boy, especially if someone found out because for all he knows they could be the wrong person and suddenly all the work he puts into being "normal" has been washed away

If I have to see one more post going "men are so amazing, it's totally valid and revolutionary to love and prioritise the men in your life!! women (especially lesbians) are so mean and prejudiced about men and need to be nicer and check their biases", I'm going to..... well, I'm not going to do much but I'll be super annoyed and unfollow whoever puts it on my dash 🤣

I have many male acquaintances/casual friends IRL, through school. I tend to get along with people regardless of gender. And yet, YET, no matter how polite, friendly, funny, educated and smart they are, with most people (exceptions exist, but this is MOST people), there are inherent problems that come from existing in or alongside Guy Social Spaces as a woman. And Guy Social Spaces wouldn't exist without the guys that uphold them......

In my guy-dominated environment I actually manage to avoid most forms of (non-benevolent; benevolent sexism still sucks and makes me uncomfortable though, and I don't actively befriend guys irl because of how commonplace it is) sexism because I'm openly gay. Not being seen as an object of sexual interest and being able to fit into a bit of a "not like other girls" social role means that I don't actually have to deal with the baggage that comes with heterosexism and the heterosexual sphere (I use heterosexual to refer to all non-platonic relationships between men and women here, btw - for these purposes it doesnt matter what the sexualities of the people involved are). But like.......

I recently went to dinner with some girls and found out that the guys at my school - people that I've found all-around decent and extremely friendly and respectful to me - treat the women they date as objects. Like it's a conquest thing when they """bag""" a good-looking girl, and everyone (literally everyone) shakes hands and congratulates the guy for "getting" an attractive girlfriend. As if she's not right there (she was, she's the one who told me about what happened) and as if she didn't have 50% control of the decision to begin a relationship. And the way they talked about her body and appearance too... It's really gross and objectifying and I didn't know about this because I get to exist outside of it!! But that's really only one thing. Even outside of that, the way that people who don't have to worry about sexism or discrimination treat women and talk about them behind their backs manifests in a million small ways. And the thing is, these guys are ostensibly among "the good ones"!!! These people have intelligent conversations about social justice and equality in class and treat me with respect as a peer because I've proven both my academic and professional cred, that I can take a joke, that I'm funny, that I know enough nerd culture stuff to not be a boring ditzy fake. (The fact that these things are necessary for me to be seen as a peer is, by the way, fucked up.) But their progressive views just don't seem to apply to day-to-day social interactions and relationships....

So idk i dont think this is super eloquently put but yeah. Fuck you if you think being wary or bitching about people in places where they can't see it (ie tumblr rant posting) is a form of hatred lol. Especially when the patriarchy still exists....... you can't "guy positivity<333" yourself out of that one. I don't hate men but the people who say they do must have a reason to. And ugh about this one post that I hated in particular, I hate how it was formulated like "hating men hurts trans women too :(" bestie trans women suffer even more under the patriarchy because they (often) have to interact with guys (including sexist guys and Guy Spaces) growing up and might lose a lot of friends/have things go sour when they transition, I bet a lot of trans women online post about hating men too lol. (That latter point also goes for nonbinary people and guys who don't fit into Guy Spaces for some reason, or who don't perform masculinity in the hetero-ascribed way.) But overall yeah posts shaming me/women/lesbians for not being nicer about men (when in fact a lot of critical posts are intended to be against the system, not on all people everywhere just based on their gender identity, and a good faith reading would make this abundantly clear) are only going to make me more of a bitch sorry

(Also re: the guy loving positivity posts. Those are just boring and annoying to me sometimes sorry 😭😭😭 they frame it as some revolutionary thing that people get oppressed for when it's really not, I promise if you go outside everything is about men and everyone is obsessed with men. In my city the gay spaces are (despite claiming to be inclusive) only for gay men and every merch item sold and every song played is about dick. Men (with he/him pronouns and an openly declared guy identity) are on women's dating apps and you can't filter them out without paying. Almost nobody understands me when I first come out to them as a lesbian, they have to ask and double check if I really only like women or if I'm actually bi. I promise if you're a woman and like/date men there are like 0.00001 queer spaces where you might get a mean comment about it but UNFORTUNATELY IF YOU'RE A WOMAN WHO ONLY (or currently!) DATES WOMEN THAT IS 99.9999% OF EVERYWHERE 💀 i mean its still nice that those posts exist, its good for people to be able to find community, but i swear to god at some point im going to purge my dash to the point that the only man anyone is allowed to love and cherish in my field of vision is crown prince rudolf of austria.
