Assignment 3: Information Design
Tumblr media
In this last assignment, I was tasked with creating an infographic based on a certain set of data. If I am being honest, I chose to do an infographic on Netflix because it was a mature company and because I was watching Stranger Things prior to this assignment which really gave me the inspiration.  Conceptualisation
Before planning out what I wanted to include in my infographic, I went to Pinterest to do some quick searches for design inspiration and what I could potentially include in this infographic. Something that caught my eye was this infographic that I found had a mixture of words and pictures with Netflix’s signature colour, emblem and stats which gave me things to work with and potentially expand on that (Fig.1):
Tumblr media
Fig.1: Netflix old stats: http://www.tommiemedia.com/diversions/netflix-by-the-numbers/
As the stats were a little outdated, I decided to make something similar and update it with the current stats.
Sketch
After getting the rough information down, I made a quick sketch on what I wanted to include in the infographic as shown below (Fig.2)
Tumblr media
Fig.2: Sketch of Netflix Infographic
Firstly, I knew that I wanted to arrange my infographic in a top down, left to right manner which is why I had the big label of Netflix heading the infographic to give audiences an idea of what they’re looking at.
Next, I knew that I wanted to incorporate the Netflix logo and give some background information on the company. To show this list, I mainly did it in a diagram form so it is easier to absorb. To the right of it, I wanted to present the stats of the number of people (in millions) who are making use of the service in the different regions. To best represent this information, I decided to do it in a bar chart form.
Finally, from the 2/3 of the page down, I wanted to include some statistics on Netflix’s revenue, most streamed acquired series, most viewed original film, Popular Netflix Original series Viewership, most viewed Netflix movies in the US in 2020 and it’s competitors. These stats as a whole aim to tell the readers how well the company is doing financially, how they are doing against their competitors and what kind of content do people want to watch as well as how much they are averaging for the most popular original content that they have put out. This is so as to continue knowing their audiences and making content for them to enjoy which ultimately results in revenue for the company as well.  Inspiration and Tracing
In my infographic, I was initially thinking about what I can use to symbolise the different aspects that I wanted and therefore, I decided to use a dollar sign for revenue, clapperboards for films, TV sets for television shows and for the competitors I decided to use versus (V/S) in the same colour as Netflix’s branding colours. After having the rough idea of what I wanted to portray in my infographic, I decided to use the trusty search engine google to look for images that I could trace and edit. Below are some of the inspiration pictures and samples that I have from google (Fig.3).
Tumblr media
Fig.3: Images from Google
After acquiring these images, I traced them out on Adobe Illustrator and these are some of the drawings that I obtained (Fig.4).
Tumblr media
Fig.4: Final traced images exported in PNG from AI
From Tracing to Colouring
After getting the drawings out, I wanted to colour them in to make it look more realistic and stand out from the background.
Tumblr media
Fig.5: TV in AI
After tracing the TV using the pen and curvature tools, I selected the layer I wanted to colour in by tampering around with the fill and stroke icons. Afterwards I just repeated that for all the different layers and before I knew it, I had a TV straight out WandaVision in the first 2 episodes (Disney did it better though but I’m pretty content with the fact that I could actually draw). This similar process was repeated for all the visual elements that I had (Fig.6,7,8 and 9).
Tumblr media
Fig.6: Dollar sign to symbolise revenue on AI.
For this sign, the original image was in greyscale and as I wanted my image to represent wealth. Hence, I went with the colour green as it is universally associated with money and coupled with the dollar sign, it instantly signals to the viewers that I will be dealing with numbers in the section below as well.
Tumblr media
Fig.7 Clapperboard on AI
For this clapperboard, I purposely chose to leave the space there blank as I knew I was going to be dealing with 2 movie titles, The Secret Life of Pets and Extraction and therefore, I wanted to keep the space there so I can use typography (for the movie titles) to fill in the blanks. This was the same for the TV graphic that I had drawn as I was going to fill it in with the popular TV shows when I have laid it all out in the graphic.
Tumblr media
Fig.8: Netflix logo on AI
Tumblr media
Fig.9: Netflix full logo on AI
In the colouring for the Netflix logos, I decided to use the eyedropper tool to select the shade of red on the original Netflix logo as shown in Fig.3 and that was the colour I used to fill in the letters to complete the drawing.
From AI to InDesign
After getting all the visual elements that I needed for the infographic, I decided to open up InDesign to lay them out better for me to see and this was the final product that I came up with (Fig.10)
Tumblr media
 Fig.10: Infographic layout on InDesign
Tumblr media
Fig.11: Infographic in PNG form.
In this layout, I have used a white background but adjusted the shade I have made some changes to the placement of the graphics (i.e. Competitors and Popular Netflix Original Series Viewership) and text as I lacked space if I stuck to my original plan and I felt that this layout worked the best. I kept the header the same and added a white rectangle with black text titled the Key Stats at the side and angled it up. The purpose for doing that was to allow the readers to know what they can expect from the infographic. I used a san-serif font (Helvetica Neue) and (condensed) bolded the letters in 24pt. This was to allow the readers to easily read the header and move on as I don’t want them to dwell too long on it. On the top left, I made use of the Netflix logo that I traced previously and added a white background and using the same san-serif font (Helvetica Neue) in 12pt so that I have more space at the bottom in the later sections. On the top right, I created a bar chart using the lines and shapes function on InDesign and purposefully chose the colour red and white to show a clearer distinction between the graphics. As red is the main colour of the Netflix logo and a colour that demands for attention, I decided to incorporate it into the graph so that viewers would give it equal attention like they do for the traced Netflix logo.
In the bottom 2/3 of the graphic, a 16pt serif (Garamond) font was used for the headers and for the other information (body text), I kept the san-serif Helvetica Neue text in 11pt. This is mainly because I wanted the body text to be easily read and it has thicker strokes which is easier on the eyes. The second reason was so as to save space as I had a lot of information to try to fit in as well as wanting to give the text more “breathing space”. I chose to use a white (#FFFFF) rectangle border around my texts so that they would stand out from the shaded white background. I kept the text in black because I thought it was elegant and classy as well as overall easy to read. Even though centre-aligned, as taught in the lecture, was a weak way to get readers to read the text, I still went ahead to centralise my header texts in the boxes as well as the columns of content in the centre using the align tool in InDesign as the left-aligned text made it look aesthetically unpleasing. When I had a solo text in the last line, I was also careful to not leave it hanging at the bottom as it was not supposed to be orphaned according to a rule in design.
Moreover, I also made the careful decision to put the icons in the middle of the texts (i.e. header, icon, description) so as to break them up so it didn’t look too chunky so that it was easier for the reader to absorb. For the V/S icon, I did it a little differently compared to the rest of the icons as the rest were traced on AI but this was solely using the Garamond font in Semibold Italic at 57pt. Initially the kerning looked a little too close to one another and a little uneven. Hence, I made the decision to give the V and S more breathing space by going to the VA settings on the right and adjusted that to 50.
Furthermore, to represent the part on Netflix users VS other streaming services (global), I decided to represent that in a table form as it was easier to understand and people could instantly see the figures which is the important part of that section.
Lastly, in the bottom left part of the infographic, I included the link to my sources in San Serif Helvetica Neue 4pt as it was not as much of importance but it was more for the reason that I did not want to be thrown out for plagiarism.
Challenges
Throughout this entire infographic process from conceptualisation to design to the final product, I realised my biggest mistake was not organising my layers as I was dealign with so many especially when it came to text because everything will go out of alignment if I accidentally selected something else by mistake which I will take on board with me for my future design assignment.
Apart from that, I also realised that the part addressing the key people in the company actually needed a lot of space which might have played in to the factor where I had limited space for the bottom 2/3 of the infographic and it may not be as neatly aligned. Therefore, I had to go through several adjustments and scaling options by expanding the width of the white text box and make the text fit before finally settling on the best option.
Critique
During the critique session, I received really helpful feedback such as:
Bolding the stats (i.e. 74 million) so that it stands out more from the background because these are important figures.
Improving on my visual hierarchy as the white background that helps the text stand out was pretty unevenly drawn. (alignment issue)
By putting all my texts in white boxes, it gives all the information that I have provided similar intensity and symbolises the fact that they have similar importance.
Post-Critique
Tumblr media
Fig.12: Updated Infographic in InDesign
Tumblr media
Fig.13: Infographic in PNG format.
To rectify the issues that were being brought up during the critique, I decided to bold the numbers at the side of my graph so that it stands out as I wanted to highlight the important statistics.
With regards to the alignment issues, I have tried to align or draw my white text box so that they will be the same width. This also includes the table as I have attempted to do the same by scaling it up so that it aligns with the width of the white text box. Afterwards, I centre-aligned it again so that it flows better.
Moreover, to address the critique on my information having a similar intensity, I decided to go ahead and play around with the colour by changing it to the Netflix red, E3051A. I have also increased the font size to 13pt and bolded the stats. Hence, all these elements work together to aid the important statistic stand out in the body text.
Other amendments
I realised that for the bar chart I was missing an axis titled region so I decided to add that in and shifted the graph down. At the same time, I decided to change the rectangle graph color from white to black as white was already used a header background option and i didn’t want to confuse the audience even more which was why I made the switch.

Sneak Peek: ‘Sketch’ for Survey Page Wireframe (v.2)
Hello everyone! In my previous post, I mentioned that I was considering rearranging the wireframe layout by combining the three different pages that contain the survey information. To make my life easier tomorrow, I’ve decided to make this very quick ‘infographic’ to showcase how this revamped page will be organized.
Before I start talking about what spurred me to consider completely rehauling this layout, here are the individual ones in detail:
Survey Data Hub Page
Survey Questions Page
Survey Results Page
You can also find the conceptualization sketches for these three pages here.
While working on these three pages today, I realized that there were times where I wanted to write content that was already on the other pages- but I chose to write something new in order to not repeat information word-for-word.
However, even if I chose to word things differently, it doesn’t change that it’s still the same information; just presented in a slightly different manner. And thus, I realized, “Wait, I’m being really redundant right now.”
You can see this in some overlapping/similar sections between the survey questions and result pages- such as the evaluation process. Not only that, but the call to action for the google spreadsheet was repeated twice. I’m sure there’s other repeated information, but I won’t be naming them here.
Because of this, I thought it might be worth a shot to try and condense all of these pages into one page. Earlier in the conceptualization process, I thought, “What if the user could access each analysis by clicking the image thumbnail?” You can see that sketch below:
Tumblr media
However, I ended up dismissing this idea because I thought that no one would want to click more buttons than necessary (as you could have all 14 artworks stacked on top of each other).
But, working on my current drafts, I’ve realized that regurgitating the same information in slightly different words, is just as bad of a thing to do (and perhaps even worse). Have you ever had a time where a video game plays too many unnecessary flashbacks of something you’ve viewed several times and you just, roll your eyes going “Not this again!” That’s what my survey wireframe drafts feel like at the moment.
While I do think that there could be potential layout issues with the arrangement I have proposed at the start of the post- I won’t really know them until I try arranging it properly in Adobe XD and seeing it for myself.
I really mean it when I say that these pages are by far the hardest to work on, and part of that stems from this being a balancing act of sorts. One of my biggest goals with this website is to make sure that the information flows together well; this can be achieved by establishing a strong hierarchy and order. But at the same time, I also want to make sure that the website doesn’t drag out for longer than necessary (like my tendency to reflect at excessive length.).
So all in all, I’m really looking forward to trying to test this layout tomorrow! I have high hopes for it- and even if it doesn’t work out, I’m totally fine with going back to the drawing board to figure out a layout that DOES work.
Here’s hoping that I can make an improved version of these pages! Once that’s done, I can move on to creating a comprehensive list of assets needed for the website. I’d also like to make a video demonstration of how the website would look in action (aka prototyping the buttons in Adobe XD), but I won’t be able to do that until I have some wireframes that I’m satisfied with.
And that’s all for today! I’ll see you all sometime tomorrow with the proper wireframe of this concept. Take care! 👋🙌✨

Can data visualisation improve the experience of the mobile web?
It may be difficult to prioritize the cellular enjoy whilst it frequently appears like a compromise. Don’t encompass as an awful lot textual content. Remove some of your pics. Stay away from features that get within the cell tourist’s way. It’s type of like a discern who tells you, “Go out and have a good time, but don’t do X, Y or Z!” It’s now not always that a mobile visitor desires a shorter page, much less textual content or fewer pics to extra effortlessly consume content on a smartphone. They just want the content you provide them to not feel like a lot work. If you look more intently at your pages, you may find that some of the written content can be transformed into information visualizations. So, today we’re going to have a look at some things you could do to start changing extra of your content into pictures and decorate cell visitors’ experiences inside the process.
1. Go Beyond Traditional Data Visualization Formats
When you think about displaying facts in a graphical format, what do you envision? Probably graphs and charts like this:
This screenshot comes from a
Visual
.Ly infographic comparing net designers and developers. This particular piece of it deals with jobs-related statistical records, so it makes sense that it'd be translated into bar graph and line chart formats. As a author, I’m a big fan of this type of facts visualization due to the fact having to write out stats may be a major bummer. Like I recognise there’s a significant difference among the data factors, however I can simplest use bold fonts and bulletpoints so oftentimes earlier than readers start to look for the next new thrilling aspect to attention on. When strong facts sets are designed in preference to written, readers are less probable to bypass over and unintentionally miss critical statistics. But it’s now not just statistics that can be visualized.
This could’ve been written as a paragraph (e.G. “_In general, net designers are right brain thinkers, leveraging intuition, creativity, blah blah blah…_”). It could’ve additionally been displayed as a table:
While this would’ve perhaps been less difficult to read than a wall of text, it’s now not nearly as exciting as the image above. In order to pick out different sorts of facts worth turning into graphics, it’s going to require net designers to do a little thinking outdoor the box. I’d advise you start by means of acquainting yourself with the different sorts of facts visualizations that exist. You can use The Duke University Library for that. It has an entire page that shows how different kinds of facts can be translated into graphics.
The Pudding took this basic idea of charting facts points through the years and turned it into something precise in its “Colorism in High Fashion” article. This is a miles more effective and eye-catching manner to relay this information than to have a writer say, “Over the magazine’s 200-plus issues, 75% of Vogue’s cover models generally tend more closer to fairer skin tones.”
That said, this photo on its personal isn’t a scatter plot as it only depicts amount and trends. However, scrolling does subsequently turn it into a scatter plot. Notice how each of the orbs has been pulled out onto a timeline, representing the faces of the models on the mag covers. This isn't the traditional manner to use a scatter plot chart, but, on this case, it works actually well. And, again, it does a much more effective activity in getting the point throughout on cellular than a wall of text.
As you search for methods to try this in your very own work, hone in on the following elements:
Statistical facts,Short bulleted lists,Highly complex topics,Step-by way of-step explainers,Page or topic summaries.
These present the fine opportunities for turning essential statistics or subjects into visualizations.
2. Design Your Data Visualizations To Be Filterable
Of course, you don’t need to overdo it. In your mission to keep your website’s message on mobile, you don’t need to create such a lot of pics that it compromises web page velocity or that they begin to sense overwhelming. One answer to information visualization overload is to create a unmarried photograph, but use filters to control which data sets are displayed. Not only does this permit you to deliver a ton of visual records in a smaller amount of space, but it can come to be a competitive edge, too. Let me display you an example. The purpose why a CDN is useful is because it puts your internet site geographically closer to your goal audience. If the
CDN
doesn’t have the attain to do that, then it’s not well worth the problem. That’s why, of all the issues people ought to make when locating a provider, they ought to have a look at in which their points of presences truly are. This is a wonderful photo as it suggests in which its cache locations are and the way broad of a place the network covers. However, that is a static image, so what you notice is what you get.
Google has to apply the relaxation of the web page to list off all the major cities in which it has a CDN presence. Akamai, a competitor to Google Cloud CDN, has designed its media community map. On their map, you can see Akamai’s media delivery network (in orange) and its media and storage places (in pink).
Prospective users interested in going deeper into the information can use the filters at the pinnacle of the page.
Not simplest does this facts visualization design let traffic closely survey the statistics that’s most applicable to them, however it aids of their decision-making process, too. This method is definitely beneficial if you want to turn an entire bunch of records into a statistics visualization without having to weigh down the page with it. And with this precise version of filtering, you could spare your visitors the hassle of having to pinch to zoom in and out of the photo. They can customize the view on their own and get to the most applicable bits with ease. 3. Make Your Data Visualizations Interactive
Another thing you could do to % a ton of records into a unmarried picture is to make your facts visualizations interactive. Not only will this declutter your mobile UI, but it’ll get your visitors to pause and definitely take time to recognize the data they’re being shown. This is a recent post from Emojipedia. The article shares the effects of a look at they performed on emoji usage at some point of the coronavirus. It’s a splendid examine and it’s chock-full of facts visualizations. The layout is definitely attractive, but it’s no longer smooth to see all of the details in the picture on mobile. This is wherein interactivity would are available in handy. By making every of the bars within the graph clickable, humans could get greater records approximately the emoji, see the percentage increases clearly, and so on.
Is Data Visualization The Key To A Better Mobile Experience?
There are a lot of things we are able to do to improve the mobile user’s experience. If you haven’t considered statistics visualization part of that strategy, now could be an amazing time to as it enables you to: Condense the amount of space and time it takes to get your factor across,Design your pages to be greater visually engaging,Preserve the overall integrity of your replica for mobile and desktop visitors.
That, of course, doesn’t mean which you have to stop searching out ways to reduce content material on mobile. If it’s unnecessary or doesn’t add value, it must go. What stays can then be evaluated for a information visualization makeover.

Note* Tumblr is messing with the colours - check out link for the full version*
From my final feedback from my lecturer one of my concerns wit my infographic was my choice of colour. I have made the choice to finalise on a more monotone palette. Before I felt the green was simply too ‘in your face’. Check previous post for this.
Below is the colour palette I went for, with the addition of one minor colour in the form of a crimson red instead of the white. These images show the green and red brighter then they actually are.
Tumblr media
.Upon the feedback I begun to implement some changes. One of the first was relatively small but I saw it as a neat opportunity. On the A of snake I added two little snake eyes. The title on it’s own was just a bit too plain, it needed something else but no too much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The red works well as a highlighting colour. I’ll be honest I didn’t really want to use it however there were a few points in my infographic where it is needed and I do think it works well. For example above you can see it is used to highlight the ‘Danger Zone’. It has also been used for my venom drop infographic, without the red the graph did not have same effect at all. See full version for example. In this final version I also settled for 2 fonts. ‘Bungee’ and ‘DIN Condensed’. The first being used for titles and enlarged text and DIN being used for longer sets off information. I originally used Helvetica for this however it just didn’t fit with the theme.
Tumblr media
There are two sections of the infographic which I also changed around somewhat. The ‘Most Venomous’ section and the ‘Meet the Killers’ section. I wanted to build on the snake theme more, it was good before but when I look at it now it still wasn’t strong enough. Using enlarged portions of my snake illustrations I was able to create snake like patterns to hold the illustrations nicely.

5 Lessons You Can Learn From 1,000+ Bloggers to Improve Content
Every year, Orbit Media releases their “Blogging Statistics and Trends” survey.
To compile their findings, it’s sent to over 1,000 unique bloggers and content marketing specialists.
Naturally, it’s packed with valuable information, graphs, and tidbits that can transform your outlook on content creation.
But reading a 5,000+ word blog post and deciphering the meaning of dozens of graphs is time-consuming.
And remembering all of it down the line without taking copious, detailed notes? Slim chance.
So, I did it for you!
Tumblr media
Here are the biggest takeaways you can learn from the 1,000+ bloggers surveyed to improve your content.
1. Start Spending More Time on Each Post
Most people spend somewhere between one and four hours on a given piece of content before sending it live, according to the Blogging Survey.
Unless you’ve been an expert in that specific field for the last 10 years, that isn’t enough.
The problem with spending only four hours on a single post is lack of research.
It’s nearly impossible to conduct impactful (deep) research, synthesize the information, and condense the key takeaways into 2,000 words in four hours or less.
A common issue then becomes the regurgitation of already existing content.
Essentially, just Googling the target keyword, pulling tips from top posts, and then calling it “new.”
That’s not original and it’s sure as heck not going to get results.
Some of the most interesting (and successful) content is months in the making before being published.
Prime example: SEJ’s 18-part 2019 SEO Guide.
Tumblr media
Now go try to write a 2019 SEO guide in four hours and get back to me with the traffic and ranking results.
It ain’t gonna work.
Content is becoming incredible.
It’s more detailed than ever before.
It delves deeper into each subject’s subtopics and sub-subtopics.
It’s complete with tutorials, tips, studies, original research, and unique value.
If you want average results, spend the average 1-4 hours on your content.
But bloggers spending 6+ hours per post are 56 percent more likely to report stronger results.
And I’d be willing to wager that with each additional hour (up to a point), those results increase even more.
2. Stop Putting (Real) Editing on the Backburner
Most content out there is dead boring. It’s dry, nails on a chalkboard content.
Even if the copy is appetizing, it doesn’t mean squat if nobody can digest it.
Content should get people aroused and pique their senses.
It needs to be flawless in tone, style, and delivery. Without an editor, this becomes a fool’s errand.
You’ve just written 2,000+ words. The last thing your brain wants to do is re-read it five times to check for grammatically incorrect phrases or to see if every last sentence matches the tone of your target audience.
Are you editing your own work?
If so, you aren’t alone.
According to the survey, 46 percent of writers edit their own work.
Another 30 percent informally showcase it to one or two people.
Only 24 percent of writers have a formal editor.
And guess what? Those that use one or more formal editors report 50 percent better results.
Bad grammar and sloppy editing can damage your credibility and even hinders your likelihood of being promoted and accelerating job advancement.
Plus, the readers don’t lie:
42 percent of ‘em state that spelling errors give them a negative perception of brand and status.
And, according to the Blogging Survey, showing it to a friend isn’t good enough. You need serious editors dedicated to the task of content perfection.
There are countless sites like Fiverr and UpWork where you can hire quality editors:
Tumblr media
Feeling frugal? There are dozens of grammar and editing tools online.
I never send off an article without running it through Grammarly:
Tumblr media
It checks for plagiarism, spelling, grammar, punctuation, fluency, conciseness, formality, clarity, variety, and vocabulary.
Plus, you can customize goals to deliver more accurate editing suggestions based on what intent, style, and emotion you are going for:
Tumblr media
This should serve as a baseline to editing your content. Once you do this, it’s time to run it by an editor.
Can’t find one? Grammarly even offers human proofreading services, so you have no excuse.
Tumblr media
No matter what you do, always run your content through an editing tool and a professional editor.
Your readers can (and will) thank you later.
3. Stop Neglecting Old Content
Writing a top quality blog post takes hours. Days. Weeks.
Maybe even months if it’s a long guide with production quality visuals.
With so much time invested in a piece of content, it’s easy to hit the publish button and kick back in your chair.
You did it, right? Sort of. But not really. Content doesn’t just stay evergreen because you want it to.
Sure, planning in advance for more evergreen topics can help, but even still, nothing in digital marketing stays the same for long.
Once you hit publish, your work is only 75 percent of the way done. Posts can become outdated in just weeks.
Need proof?
Check out Brian Dean’s Skyscraper 2.0 where a single post of his went from #1 on SERPs to middle of the second page.
Why? He went on cruise control. And sadly, most people do this. I do too. Guilty!
According to the Blogging Statistics and Trends survey, 62 percent of content marketers aren’t updating their content after hitting that shiny, instantly gratifying publish button.
Yet those who do update old content are “twice as likely to report strong results.”
Updating content gives you the opportunity to grab low-hanging fruit and overtake posts above you if you fall behind, or ensure that competitors can’t do it to you.
Start by looking at your analytics for given posts. What rankings and traffic did you have when your post was at its peak?
Tumblr media
Has traffic flatlined? Check to see if rankings have changed over time:
Tumblr media
If they have, it’s time to update your post to fit searcher expectations.
Head to SERPs for the target keywords and examine the few posts ranking above yours.
Are they targeting Google’s machine learning by answering critically related questions?
Tumblr media
Is their content more in-depth, longer, or contain more visuals than yours?
Does it touch on the latest updates and news to keep it relevant?
Ultimately ask yourself:
What are they doing that I haven’t?
Fix it, republish it, and reclaim your rightful SERP position.
4. Start Conducting Your Own Research for Backlink Goldmines
Infographics have long been touted as “link bait.”
But most are far too long, dense, and text-heavy to make a big impact.
Not to mention their cheesy illustrated graphics that we’ve all seen thousands of times over.
And now, good infographics are few and far between. Hootsuite wrote about the decline of infographics back in 2015.
And a study from 2010-2015 proved that infographics were declining in usage and impact.
So, what works to generate genuine backlinks now?
Original research – ironic, considering I’m writing an entire post about an original research study.
And it’s true: original research is killing it right now.
Case and point, the study I am deconstructing here has 4.28k backlinks already.
Tumblr media
Plug in just about any reputable, informative, relevant, and statistically significant original research post and you’ll see similar results.
Tons of links. Tons of keywords. Tons of traffic. Tons of winning.
Why? Because anybody that writes good content knows research is critical to making your point stick.
Writers need data to back up claims, and marketers need data-driven strategies to maximize their budget.
Providing original research nails both with precision.
According to the Blogging Statistics and Trends survey, those who conduct and publish original studies report 2.9x better impact on their contents success.
Want to create better content that gets noticed?
Start developing original research on unique and trending topics in your niche.
Sure, it might cost you a few thousand bucks to do, but that’s why it works: you aren’t posting cookie-cutter content.
5. Start Doing What Everyone Else Isn’t Doing
It’s tempting to pump out a bunch of content for the sake of content.
It makes you feel great when you click to your blog and see dozens of long-form posts.
But, unless you are actively doing what most people are not doing, content is a total waste of time.
If you think that you can go write a cookie-cutter SEO tip post in the current age and generate good rankings, think again.
Today’s landscape is brutal. Even for the most obscure, low-traffic keywords.
Check out the SERPs for “International SEO,” a keyword with just 250 searches a month.
Tumblr media
Moz, SEJ, SEL, Neil Patel, WordStream, SEMrush, and HubSpot. Not a single DA under 87.
Yikes.
Wanna rank for it without a DA above 87 and hundreds to thousands of backlinks over years of time?
Two thousands words ain’t gonna cut it. “Long-form” doesn’t mean jack if it’s not different in some fundamental way.
You’re gonna need much more, and most people are far too stingy or lazy to do it.
But that’s actually good news.
If everyone was doing it, you’d be stuck in the same position: unable to outrank the big players.
Thankfully, there are tons of strategies that most bloggers are not using, including said big players.
This gives you a powerful opportunity to capitalize on what readers (and Google) want to see:
Only 18 percent publish 2,000+ word posts: Increase your length, but make sure the content isn’t fluff. Actively research subtopics and provide value. Nobody wants to read 5,000 words if it doesn’t help them solve a problem.
Only 20 percent collaborate with influencers: Reach out to influencers for quotes to boost credibility. The benefit here is both credibility and the increased chance of these influencers sharing the content and linking back to it.
Tumblr media
Only 19 percent add video content to their articles, and only 4 percent use audio, but they generate the biggest impacts: For just a few bucks, you can outsource video and audio summaries of your articles to freelancers on UpWork or Fiverr and add immense value for mobile users who enjoy video or want to listen podcast-style.
All of these strategies are listed as the least common tactics among 1,000+ bloggers.
And unsurprisingly, they also rank as the most effective.
Why? Because everything else is beaten to a pulp.
As tactics become more popular over time, receptiveness sinks like a rock (see: Law of Shitty Click-Throughs)
Want better content, better rankings, and better engagement? Invest in what most content creators are skipping.
Conclusion
With millions of blog posts being written, edited, and published on a daily basis, differentiation is the holy grail.
If you take anything away from this post, it should be this:
Do what other content creators fail to do…
Spend more time on each post (more research, more outlining, more flow development, and more writing)
Have multiple, dedicated editor third-parties edit and proofread your work. They are going to catch errors you simply can’t.
Start revamping your old content and be consistent. Once you hit publish, your job is far from done.
Start producing your own research studies. People love original research. Is it hard to produce? Duh. Is it time-consuming? You know the answer. Is it worth it? Data says yes, unequivocally.
Invest time and money into tactics that most content producers don’t: video, audio, influencer outreach, and more.
More than 1,000 bloggers can teach us that going the extra mile is the only hope in the noise of modern SERPs.

Work Smarter by RePurposing your Digital Content https://ift.tt/1jxl24K
With the demand to produce so much content, think about repurposing the hard work you’ve already done to better reach your customers.
10x is a common term that seems to have a few different definitions. Rand Fishkin from Moz coined the term “10x content” in relation to “content that is 10 times better than the best result that can currently be found in the search results for a given keyword phrase or topic.” There’s also Grant Cardone’s book ” The 10x Rule” about increasing your efforts and time by a multiple of 10 to reach your goals.
But the definition I want to talk about is in the idea of repurposing content 10x. Or at least understanding the potential for it.
Continued Demand for Content
We have a finite amount of resources: time, people power, skill sets, etc. so when we do create content, there’s a lot of work that goes into it. Usually a lot more than others realize. Video, graphics, podcasting, blogs, news releases… all don’t just drop out of the sky. There’s strategy, time, effort, patience, navigating challenges and so much more.
And the demand for more and more content to engage with your audience continues. Whether it’s for web sites, printed materials or the various multimedia and social media platforms you operate to engage with your customers, or the internal channels of communication to connect with employees, the need to create just never seems to diminish.
So it’s important to look at every piece of content you create, as content that can be repurposed as other pieces of content, allowing  you to do more with less and give the information a longer life.
To get an idea, let’s look at one of the easiest forms of content to repurpose: VIDEO. Now keep in mind, not all new pieces of content are needed or possible. This is just to demonstrate what could be done.
As an example, let’s consider this video the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure did explaining how the Lions Gate Bridge Counterflow works:
youtube
The video itself does a great job of breaking down how the centre lane on the bridge works, based on monitoring dynamic traffic flow during peak and non-peak times. It’s a nice, short educational piece of content created to answer a common question from the public.
Repurposing 10x
To give this story a longer and varied life, this video can be transformed into far more pieces of content with much less additional effort. The heavy lifting is done, now look at different ways to share this information. For example:
Podcast – if you have an established podcast or some variety of audio content (Soundcloud?), rip the entire voiceover as a sound file. Add a bit of production value to it and host as either a podcast or in a shareable audio format.
Blog Post – transcribe the entire video or take the existing script and reformat the text into a more conversational blog post with sub-headings.
List-acle – pull the best takeaways from the video and create a list article of the “top 7 things you need to know about the Lions Gate Bridge counterflow.”
Quotes – capture some of the more interesting quotes from the video and make them into graphics or use them to accentuate other content like a blog.
Fun Fact – take some of the “fun facts” and create a variety of social media posts, such as “Did you know: traffic control operators monitor more than 40 cameras on the Lions Gate Bridge and surrounding highways to keep you moving.”
Infographic – retell the narrative of the daily counterflow through a long form visual. This video already has some great visuals you can use for inspiration.
Soundbyte – take a 10-15s audio clip from the video that is either interesting or explains something.
Teaser Trailer – edit some of the more captivating parts of the video into a condensed version to promote the longer form video. Think movie trailers.
Trivia – Ask questions with answers within the video to engage your audience. For example, “How often are traffic control operators monitoring the bridge?”
Web Content – use the information from the video to add value and further clarity to existing websites. For example, condensing the content into bullets to add to this website Lions Gate Counterflow (and of course, include the video itself)
Your audience, whether customers or employees, consume content differently. What will resonate for one, won’t for another, so it’s important to look at different ways to tell the same story.
As I mentioned, not all content can be repurposed in these specific ways, but consider other options beyond this list.
Benefits to Repurposing
Repurposing has its benefits, with a few being:
Resonates with your audience in personal ways – everybody learns and receives information differently. By changing up your content, you’re offering more access to the information. And keep in mind, this content is not only for your customers. It could also be used to educate for onboarding employees or or to breakdown organizational silos.
Brings old content back to life – stale content can have new life in a new form and feel fresh again. Older content repackaged can get attention if it still provides value (and is promoted with great search engine optimization).
Maximizes your time and effort – you put a lot of effort into this ONE big piece of content, so creating new content off an existing idea and approach, takes less resources.
Increases your online presence – more content allows for better search results and reinforces your brand as a subject resource.
Far too often, we put so much effort in to a “one and done” piece of content and then move onto the next thing. By looking at the video/graphic/blog/podcast from different angles and considering the many different audiences it may have and the different problems it could fix, it will give your content new and longer life.
What other ways could repurposing content be effective?

70 Smart Tips to Instantly Boost Your Business Blog
Blogging is more important than it has ever been. With marketing budgets shifting to online content and hundreds of millions of business blogs, competition is fierce.
However, many business blogs are ineffective, inactive, or simply not setup to maximize the customer experience. With customers turning more and more to online content, you can’t afford to have an invisible business blog.
So the competition is stiff, the stakes are high, and the unstoppable development of the Internet always raises the bar. Only few business blogs meet great success and fortune from frequently publishing their outstanding content.
It is a fact that companies that run a blog are a lot more successful than those that don’t. They generate a remarkable 130% more leads and 7 times the organic traffic.
On the other hand, individual bloggers spend on average 4 to 8 hours a week posting on their blog. This prompts the question as to how they manage to gather the attention of thousands, if not millions, of readers.
There are several topics that need to be emphasized when starting a blog. To have a visible and optimized blog, it is important to focus on:
SEO – Search Engine Optimization
Attitude – the blogger’s personal approach
Content – the information provided
Target – the intended audience
Layout – the visual appearance of the blog
Network – the virtual and social connections
The infographic (see below) reveals 70 different ways to make your blog successful.
Search engine algorithms are constantly changing. No one knows exactly how browsers think, which is certainly a challenge. There is no universal rule that instantly helps you rank at the top search results for Google or Yahoo.
Therefore, search marketers, who constantly study this evolving phenomena, have drawn up the key factors that deeply influence a website’s performance and its ranking.
Just to list a few, SEO criteria is mostly related to:
blog updates
internal and external links
page trust
domain level
anchor text
spam level
relevancy and length of the content
keyword density
load speed
Fortunately, blogging is not only about SEO. When running a blog, even the blogger’s attitude highly affects the final outcome. Time, willpower and involvement are essential to developing a performing page.
As mentioned before, a few hours a week may be sufficient to create innovative content and improve the overall performance of the blog, but results are certainly dependent on the individual.
It is important to be consistently committed to the blog. This means that the blog needs to be updated with new content at least once a week. This provides better visibility, a higher amount of organic traffic and returning visitors which can all turn into concrete results.
However, it is fundamental to bear in mind that only great content will be “awarded” and taken into consideration by readers.
Concerning writing, blog posts should be neither too long nor too short. Generally, a text of 600 words is a good compromise, giving valuable information while retaining readers’ attention.
But in SEO terms, it is important that the keyword density is proportional to the length of the text. According to various experts, the right balance of keywords that makes  content worthwhile for search browsers is between 2 and 3 %.
Example: Suppose you have to write an 800 word blog post about solar energy. In this case, your meta keyword would be “solar panels”. You need to ensure that by the end of your text, “solar panel(s)” appears between 16 and 24 times throughout it.
More importantly, the keyword should also be placed in the anchor text of the title, headings and meta description. All these small changes, combined with unique and high-quality content, will make the blog post relevant in the search results.
In the example, the target audience for the blog post would be people interested in renewable energy.
The first step to writing proper content is gathering reliable information about the topic. It is good to know:
what people are interested in
what they search for in the browser
what keywords they use
what questions they ask
what kind of answers they are looking for
Having an overview of readers’ interests and targeting the audience’s demand will always provide positive results.
It is important to provide readers with more valuable information than your competitors, and to develop rich and interesting content.
More often than not,  collecting information is the longest process after writing the blog post itself. But it is essential to give the appropriate professional format to the text.
Content is essential, but looks certainly count as well. The layout of the blog is equally important in order to grab the attention of your target.
It is important that the blog is visually attractive  and that the texts are easy to read. Images, spacing, bolds and lists give the eyes a break, making the overall appearance of the text more enjoyable. On the contrary, condensed texts are heavy and not as effective.
Once the blog is complete and the article is ready, it is time to spread the message and build a network of contacts. Outreaching and sharing your news to people is the next phase.
Afterwards, it is highly recommended that you link the blog to all social media platforms. Since social media has become an integral part of online marketing, we cannot neglect and underestimate its  power.
Finally, retaining connections with bloggers and readers, while developing an increasingly larger communication network will help the blog quickly take-off.

5 Blogging Tips to Help Boost Your Content Now
Every year, Orbit Media releases their Blogging Statistics and Trends survey.
Here are the biggest takeaways you can learn from the 1,000+ bloggers surveyed to improve your content.
1. Start Spending More Time on Each Post
Most people spend an average of 3 hours and 57 minutes writing a blog post before sending it live, according to the Blogging Survey.
Unless you’ve been an expert in that specific field for the last 10 years, that still isn’t enough.
Prime example: Search Engine Journal’s 18-part 2020 SEO Guide.
Now go try to write a 2020 SEO guide that matches the quality above in four hours and get back to me with the traffic and ranking results.
But bloggers spending 6+ hours per post are 38% more likely to report stronger results.
Youve just written 2,000+ words. The last thing your brain wants to do is re-read it five times to check for grammatically incorrect phrases or to see if every last sentence matches the tone of your target audience.
Are you editing your own work?
If so, you aren’t alone.
According to the survey, 41% of writers edit their own work.
Another 28% informally showcase it to one or two people.
Only 22% of writers have a formal editor.
And guess what? Those that use one or more formal editors report 38% better results.
Bad grammar and sloppy editing can damage your credibility and even hinders your likelihood of being promoted and accelerating job advancement.
Plus, the readers don’t lie:
42% of ‘em state that spelling errors give them a negative perception of brand and status.
And, according to the Blogging Survey, showing it to a friend isn’t good enough.
You need serious editors dedicated to the task of content perfection.
There are countless sites like Fiverr and UpWork where you can hire quality editors:
Feeling frugal?
There are dozens of grammar and editing tools online.
I never send off an article without running it through Grammarly:
It checks for plagiarism, spelling, grammar, punctuation, fluency, conciseness, formality, clarity, variety, and vocabulary.
Plus, you can customize goals to deliver more accurate editing suggestions based on what intent, style, and emotion you are going for:
This should serve as a baseline for editing your content.
Once you do this, it’s time to run it by an editor.
Can’t find one?
Grammarly even offers human proofreading services, so you have no excuse.
Once you hit publish, your work is only 75% of the way done. Posts can become outdated in just weeks.
According to the Blogging Statistics and Trends survey, over 33% of content marketers aren’t updating their content after hitting that shiny, instantly gratifying publish button.
I’ve been guilty of going on cruise control, too.
Yet those who do update old content are “2x more likely to report success.”
Updating content gives you the opportunity to grab low-hanging fruit and overtake posts above you if you fall behind, or ensure that competitors can’t do it to you.
Start by looking at your analytics for given posts.
What rankings and traffic did you have when your post was at its peak?
Has traffic flatlined?
Check to see if rankings have changed over time:
If they have, it’s time to update your post to fit searcher expectations.
Head to SERPs for the target keywords and examine the few posts ranking above yours.
Are they targeting Google’s machine learning by answering critically related questions?
Case and point, the study I am deconstructing here has 4.25k backlinks already.
Plug in just about any reputable, informative, relevant, and statistically significant original research post and you’ll see similar results.
Tons of:
Links.
Keywords.
Traffic.
Winning.
Why?
Because anybody that writes good content knows research is critical to making your point stick.
Writers need data to back up claims, and marketers need data-driven strategies to maximize their budget.
Providing original research nails both with precision.
According to the Blogging Statistics and Trends survey, 85% of those publishing original research report stronger results than traditional blogging.
Want to create better content that gets noticed?
Start developing original research on unique and trending topics in your niche.
Sure, it might cost you a few thousand bucks to do, but that’s why it works:
You aren’t posting cookie-cutter content.
5. Start Doing What Everyone Else Isn’t Doing
It’s tempting to pump out a bunch of content for the sake of content.
It makes you feel great when you click on your blog and see dozens of long-form posts.
Moz, Search Engine Journal, SEL, Neil Patel, WordStream, SEMrush, and HubSpot. Not a single DA under 87.
Yikes.
Want to rank for it without a DA above 87 and hundreds to thousands of backlinks over years of time?
Two-thousand words ain’t gonna cut it.
Only 11% publish 2,000+ word posts: Increase your length, but make sure the content isn’t fluff. Actively research subtopics and provide value. Nobody wants to read 5,000 words if it doesn’t help them solve a problem.
Only 1% collaborate with influencers: Reach out to influencers for quotes to boost credibility. The benefit here is both credibility and the increased chance of these influencers sharing the content and linking back to it.
Only 26% add video content to their articles, and only 7% use audio, but they generate the biggest impacts: For just a few bucks, you can outsource video and audio summaries of your articles to freelancers on UpWork or Fiverr and add immense value for mobile users who enjoy video or want to listen podcast-style.
Do what other content creators fail to do.
Spend more time on each post (more research, more outlining, more flow development, and more writing).

By Leah Wynalek
B2B content marketing tends toward common pitfalls. There’s often too much industry jargon, too many promotional messages, and too little appeal to the buyer’s emotion.
Though your subject matter may be complex, your content is most effective when it’s simple for the consumer to understand. Websites, blog posts, white papers, and other forms of content must deliver a clear, valuable message – and do so in an engaging way – for potential buyers to pay attention.
At Content Marketing World 2019, a number of B2B marketers led sessions about how to craft more compelling brand stories and thought leadership content. All who I heard speak stressed the need to simplify your message. Venetta Linas Paris, director of global content at Aon even used classic children’s book Goodnight Moon to illustrate ways B2B companies can improve their storytelling.
Bottom line: Buyers are people. They don’t want to be bored, and they shouldn’t have to analyze your content to grasp its business value.
Here are a few tactics to make B2B content marketing more engaging, according to CMW presenters:
1. Be Empathetic
April Henderson, head of Forrester’s Market Impact Consulting, says B2B buyers are becoming more like “consumers,” meaning they’re more anonymous and more emotionally motivated than in the past. She attributes the shift in behavior to buyers’ changing demographics – decision-makers are getting younger – and their expectations as digital consumers.
When B2B content marketing fails, it’s because it lacks buyer empathy, says Henderson. To produce content that converts, you need to share in the emotion of your customers and understand what they want to accomplish – and that’s not always a business objective.
As an example, Henderson highlights a ShoreTel Connect video featuring “A Day in the Life” of a young businessman. The product, a communications platform, allows him to perform pressing business tasks as he overcomes obstacles to a more personal objective: getting his daughter to school on time.
Catering to customers’ content preferences also shows empathy. If they say peer case studies or trend forecasts are most useful in their purchase decision-making, you demonstrate thought leadership and value by providing those requested resources.
2. Translate Experts
B2B content marketers rely on subject-matter experts for credible information but often fall short in interpreting the technical language to make concepts more digestible, says Paris. To “rock the expert interview,” she provides the following tips:
Set expectations. At the beginning of the interview, share what you’re trying to accomplish and how the interviewee’s input will be valuable.
Start with high-level questions. Discussing broad themes first helps to frame deeper discussion later on.
Encourage metaphors. They will help you understand new concepts – and will likely help your consumers, too.
Summarize and confirm. Make sure you’re translating (and condensing) your interviewee’s expertise accurately. Remember that you’re not the expert; it’s OK if you need more explanation.
After conducting interviews, Paris recommends “thinking in sections” as you piece together points of view. Categorize recurring ideas that you identify – these categories provide a natural framework for breaking down complicated concepts.
Interactive elements like diagrams and infographics further simplify the complex, says Paris. Like illustrations in a children’s book, these visuals keep your audience engaged and guide them through your content.
3. Show the Journey
Use a classic story arc to present how your product or service benefits buyers. As in fictional tales, your story should have a hero, a conflict, and a resolution says Paris.
Just make sure the hero is your client or customer, adds Glenn LaFollette, director of integrated marketing at JLL. The narrative will fall flat if it’s all about your brand.
LaFollette advises using a three-act structure centered on your customers’ goals:
Set the stage – What is the challenge?
Show the journey – How are you helping the customer overcome the challenge?
Explain the impact – Why does this matter to the customer?
This story structure is straight-forward, yet engaging – just as B2B content marketing should be.

Its 2019. So Why Do 21st-Century Skills Still Matter?
When tech giant Amazon announced its search for a second headquarters site, cities across the country scrambled to produce persuasive pitches. In Loudoun County, Virginia, fourth-graders from Goshen Post Elementary School took up the challenge personally. To create compelling video arguments, student teams interviewed experts in economic development, researched state history and geography, and even wrote poems to sing the praises of their region. When Northern Virginia was ultimately picked as a new HQ site, students were as proud as any civic leaders from their community.
The story offers a good example of how education is shifting as we wrap up two decades of the 21st century. Instead of relying on textbooks and teacher direction, these students had to think critically about unfolding events, collaborate with peers and adults, and make creative use of digital tools to communicate their ideas. In the process, they also learned plenty about social studies and civic engagement. For Loudoun County Superintendent Eric Williams, what makes such authentic learning experiences worthwhile is how they prepare students “to make meaningful contributions to the world.”
4 Cs and More
The call for 21st century learning dates back more than two decades, when blue-ribbon committees, policymakers, business leaders, and education experts began sounding the same alarm: Yesterday’s focus on memorization and rote learning would not prepare students for a fast-changing, increasingly automated, information-saturated world.
Although some educators have grown weary of the term “21st century learning,” the drive to transform education “matters more today—a lot more—than when we started the conversation.”
Ken Kay, CEO of EdLeader21
Figuring out how schools should respond, however, remains an open question for many communities. In my own work with educators around the globe, I’ve watched the emergence of 21st century trends such as makerspaces, flipped learning, genius hour, gamification, and more. Each has its own champions, teaching practices, and even hashtags; all have the potential to disrupt what we think of as traditional, teacher-centered education by giving students more voice in how they learn.
Although some educators have grown weary of the term “21st century learning,” the drive to transform education “matters more today—a lot more—than when we started the conversation,” says Ken Kay, who in 2002 co-founded an influential consortium called the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (later rebranded Partnership for 21st Century Learning, or P21. He currently serves as CEO of EdLeader21, a national network of Battelle for Kids.
In hindsight, Kay can identify three phases that have been critical in the 21st century learning movement. “The first was defining,” he says, with experts generating a laundry list of skills and competencies considered essential for students’ future success. Next came the communication phase, when those 20-plus competencies were condensed into a more memorable set of 4Cs: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
These core competencies remain relevant as we get further into the current century, argues David Ross, global education consultant and former CEO of P21, “because they seem to be the one constant in a rapidly changing social and economic environment.”
The third and current phase of the 21st century learning movement is all about “empowerment,” says Kay. “People are interested in not just adopting the 4Cs, but understanding what they can do to customize this framework at the local level. What can they design that works well for their community?”
EdLeader21 has developed a toolkit to guide districts and independent schools in developing their own “portrait of a graduate” as a visioning exercise. In some communities, global citizenship rises to the top of the wish list of desired outcomes. Others emphasize entrepreneurship, civic engagement, or traits like persistence or self-management. Kay estimates that some 800 school systems across the U.S have developed portraits so far.
When stakeholders in Loudoun County, Virginia, went through the visioning process, they decided to emphasize the 4Cs (along with content mastery), plus the competency of “contributing.” Explains Superintendent Williams, “By this we mean contributing to the world through careers in the public sector, the private sector, and the not-for-profit sector; through civic engagement; and through community service. When a student is a contributor,” he adds, “it turbo-charges their ability to employ the other competencies and their content knowledge.”
The Human Factor
The unifying theme of these various frameworks seems to be the human factor.
As the 21st century learning movement expands internationally, we’re seeing an abundance of frameworks, assessments, and semantic labels as different organizations put their spin on what’s worth knowing.
PISA (the Programme for International Student Assessment) now compares the global competence and collaborative problem-solving skills of students from different countries along with more traditional scores for reading, math, and science. ISTE Standards for Students highlight digital citizenship and computational thinking as key skills that will enable students to thrive as empowered learners. The U.S. Department of Education describes a globally competent student as one who can investigate the world, weigh perspectives, communicate effectively with diverse audiences, and take action.
The unifying theme of these various frameworks seems to be the human factor. “The core skills of collaboration, communication, and critical thinking are things that humans do well and machines not so well,” argues Ross. “Machines are getting better at them,” he adds, “but perform them best in concert with humans.”
From Mission to Methods
How wide is the gap between lofty aspirations for learning and day-to-day classroom practice? It’s hard to measure, but leaders at the forefront of the 21st century learning movement tell me they still see too many students sitting passively while teachers deliver instruction; too much technology is still used to replace routine tasks rather than turbo-charge the experience of learning.
Frameworks provide mental models, but “don’t usually help educators know what to do differently,” argues technology leadership expert Scott McLeod in his latest book, Harnessing Technology for Deeper Learning. He and co-author Julie Graber outline deliberate shifts that help teachers redesign traditional lessons to emphasize goals such as critical thinking, authenticity, and conceptual understanding. (See the resource list below for more suggested readings and teaching tools.)
More examples and practical strategies will help chart the way forward. Translating from vision to classroom implementation “is the journey we’re all on now,” says Ken Kay.
. . . too much technology is still used to replace routine tasks rather than turbo-charging the experience of learning.
Heather Wolpert-Gawron offers a good role-model. She wears a number of hats as middle school teacher, instructional coach, and author (@tweenteacher). In the classroom, she teaches collaboration skills by challenging students to solve mysteries, and then debrief how well they worked together. She fires up students’ communication skills (along with their engagement) by having them interview an astrophysicist about the science of superheroes. She leverages social media and blogging to reflect on what works and shares her insights with colleagues.
When coaching other teachers to make similar moves, Wolpert-Gawron encourages them to “tease apart what it means to collaborate, communicate, think critically. This is a language that teachers at all grade levels, in all subjects, are able to embrace.” The more concrete, the better. For example, if the big goal is student-led inquiry, teachers might brainstorm “how to see if a kid is curious. What questions are they asking? Do their answers spark even more questions?” To cultivate healthy curiosity, teachers can remind students “to hit pause [in their thinking] and take a mental screenshot. It’s empowering for students to realize, ‘Oh, so I do have ideas!’”
The good news is, there’s no shortage of creative ideas for fulfilling the promise of 21st century learning. In all kinds of contexts, I see teachers designing learning experiences that challenge students to not only imagine the future, but help to shape it. The challenge that remains is making sure all students have similar opportunities to dream and do.

One of the particular trends I expect to notice in 2018, which will possess a significant impact on most aspects of SEO, may be the improving role of artificial intelligence. SEO is an Online advertising strategy that improves the visitors on your webpage or web site. Meaning by 2018, SEO based promotion strategy ought to concentrate on having long-verse content material for best ranking results. Brian Dean, an SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION expert recommends to even location your keyword at the starting of the title if probable that will have more bodyweight in search engines. This new update had been obviously a sign that SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION ranking had become based upon content and keywords. The convergence of articles and SEO presents a enormous opportunity for brands to evangelize organic search success and rip down the silos and stigma once associated with the darkish side from the industry. Content marketing and advertising will be the new SEO. I obtained Best off-page SEO strategies through this post it helps all of us a lot to build a lot more links. Brand building is the particular new link building and off-page SEO strategy in digital marketing nowadays, given that when brands turn out to be true to their core ideals, messaging and personalities, it is definitely easy for them to sink into and dominate their target viewers.
