She fell while giving the equipment to the Queen members and the only one who knew that she was having a miscarriage was Roger and he called the hospital and helped delilah and when Delilah told Jordan that she lost the baby they broke up and Jordan was already having an Affair with his Then Girlfriend and Now Ex-Wife Evelyn and that same day Donnie founded out that Edalyn(his then fiancéhaving an Affair with Joey (Mcintyre) and they broke off their engagement right afrer
Now it’s 2009

TOP 12 WICKED QUEEN PORTRAYALS
Tumblr media
@sunlit-music @mademoiselle-princesse @princesssarisa @superkingofpriderock @metropolitan-mutant-of-ark @amalthea9 @theancientvaleofsoulmaking @astrangechoiceoffavourites @giuliettaluce
Alongside the Big Bad Wolf, Cinderella’s Stepmother, The Giant from Jack and The Beanstalk, The Witch from Hansel and Gretel and Bluebeard, The Wicked Queen from Snow White is one of the most iconic fairy tale villains of all time. A lot of people come to consider her the real protagonist of the fairy tale, since is her desire to be considered the Fairest of All and her actions to keep that title what puts the narrative in motion. And today, i will rank my favorite portrayals of this fascinatingly nasty foe.
12º Miranda Richardson as Queen Elspeth in Snow White: The Fairest of Them All (2001)
Talk about being typecast: before that turn as Snow White’s Evil Queen, Richardson had portrayed an Evil Sorceress Queen and Stepmother in Jim Henson’s The Storyteller (’The Three Ravens’ episode) and she was a wicked Sorceress Stepmother in Tim Burton’s Sleep Hollow. So it was neat for her to be called for the role of the most famous Evil Sorceress Queen and Stepmother in this Hallmark TV Movie. Elspeth is the sister of a strange, mysteryous creature known as the Granter of Wishes. Having been recently released from his freezing prison, the Granter of Wishes makes a spell to make her look beautifull for human standards, and marries her to the newly crowned and widowed King John. At first she looks content with the prospect, but as time passes, she grows more and more unsatisfied. Her source of joy is the Magic Mirror that praises her beauty, and casting spells to turn gnomes into garden statues. But when the Magic Mirror says that Snow White’s beauty surpasses hers, the unsatisfaction gets mixed with paranoia, and Elspeth slowly abuses her power in constantly harming other people, until there is no magic enough...
11º Herta Kravina in Schneewitchen (1971)
This german TV Movie is the most faithfull adaptation of the Grimm’s tale original edition, not only keeping the three murder attempts by ribbon/lace/corset, hair comb and apple, but also being the only one to show the Queen dancing to death with hot iron shoes in Snow White’s wedding. This is enough to make it worth a checkout. The other reason i find this version interesting is how the Queen comunicates with the Magic Mirror: they sing to each other. And Kravina has a really good voice (no wonder she was a voice actress for Peggy Lee in the first german/dutch dub of Disney’s Lady and The Tramp). Sometimes that is enough to get a spot in a ranking.
10º Mari Yokoo/Caterina Rochiara/Regina Reagan/Carol Jacobanis as Queen Crystal in The Legend of Snow White (1994)
From the outside, Queen Chrystal appears to be calm, regal, and sophisticated, but in reality, this collected and stately facade hides an extremely sadistic, hateful, cold and sinister person. She is ruthless, jealous and obsessive and wants nothing more than to be the fairest in the land. She also has an extreme vanity that made her utterly intolerant of rivals. Being solely focused on the idea of becoming the fairest of all, Queen Chrystal does not appear to be significantly involved in governing her husband's kingdom, though the skeletal remains of prisoners in her dungeon point to her being a villainous ruler. In the end, her mad vanity and jealousy of her stepdaughter Snow White drove her to murderous insanity. Later is revealed that Queen Chrystal is not unredeamably evil as everyone thins, but an actually kind and gentle person who is possessed by an Evil Spirit.
09º Diana Rigg as the Queen in Canon Movie Tales: Snow White (1987)
This lady is the personification of paranoia multiplied by the double. Why? Because the Magic Mirror didn’t needed to say that the little child Snow White was the fairest, this queen just feared so much that the princess’s beauty would outgrow hers that she ordered the huntsman to kill her. Basically: run, she is bad news.
08º Jeri Arredondo as Sly Fox in Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales For Every Child (1995)
Sly Fox... What a cunning diva. People try to counsel to not use alone a Magic Mirror that is a portal to the spirit world, but who says she listens? She is just there to hear the singing of her praises, and will try to eliminate anyone who gets on her way. She even goes so far as taking the appearance of the kind hearted nurse Sage Flower to lure her stepdaughter White Snow to eat the poisoned appled. What is not to love about that bastard?
07º Kazue Komiya/Arlene Banas as the Queen in Grimm’s Fairy Tale Classics (1989)
Interestingly this encarnation starts naturally cold, calm and collected, ocasionally at the princess Snow White to see if she can ever grow more beautifull than her, and dismissing the girl with contempt. It is years later that she lets go of acting calm and collected, because after hearing some gossips in the palace, she asks Snow White if she thinks of herself as more beautifull than the Queen, and her stepdaughter reacts by exclaiming that the Queen is vain and cruel, and to her eyes that makes her ugly. So besides the desire of being considered the most beautifull, you get the feeling that this Queen pursues Snow White as a way to shut a person that dares to rebell against her, wich ads new interesting dimentions to their antagonism.
06º Dorothy Cumming as Queen Brangomar in Snow White (1916)
Brangomar was once a lady in waiting of the palace. But one day, she met the powerfull Witch Rex, who offered to give Brangomar anything she wanted. And what Brangomar wanted was to become a beautifull Queen. Wich was achieved by a faustian deal where Witch Rex would cast a spell that killed Imogene, the previous Queen, while in return Brangomar would have to find a way of getting Snow White’s heart for the Witch. Years have passed, and now Brangomar  must kill the princess to pay her debt, or else everything she got will be lost. Hey, here is a way of making a villain tragic, almost simpathetic and complex while keeping clear that she is still a villain!
05º Vanessa Redgrave as the Queen in Faerie Tale Theatre (1984)
The most loud and bombastic portrayal of the Wicked Queen ever put on screen. Bringing to television her sperience from stage, that allows some more over the top emotional reactions, Redgrave had the time of her life in that role, indulging in twirling, preening and screening as much as she could, and his Queen is all the most fun for it.
04º Gudrun Landgrebe as the Queen in Schneewittchen (1992)
What i live about Landgrebe’s Queen is her range: at first she acts all humble, discreet, cold and mysteryous. Then her husband leaves to fight in a Crusade, and she trows the white veil and gray clothing of humility to show a diva red hair and orange dress, as to say “Hey, the King leaved, i have all the power here now and you must do as i say”. Later, a knight comes, offering a magical crystal ball that connected to a mirror says all the truth, and the Queen takes posession of it to ask about her beauty. When Mirror says that the most beautifull woman in the kingdom is Snow White, she gets infuriated, than goes to carefully plan ways to eliminate the princess once and for all. The highlight is when she takes the disguise of a russian male doctor to offer the apple (where she injects poison into with her ring) to Snow White.
03º Maria Antonieta de Las Nieves in El Chapulin Colorado: Blancanieves y los Siete Churín Churín Fun Flais (1978)
This three part episode of the mexican comedy superheroe show is a loving parody of the Disney version, that stands out as an enjoyable retelling of the classic fairy tale in its own right. Interestingly, while most of the comedy in the episode is delivered in the form of over the top slapistick, de Las Nieves’s delivers a straight faced, contained performance. Wich makes her answers to the absurd situations in the story all the more funny.
02º Patricia Medina as the Queen in Snow White And The Three Stooges (1961)
This lady was a hell of a foe: she not only antagonizes Snow White for the title of the Most Beautifull, going so far as to lock the princess in a dungeon for no crime at all, but also, alongside her partner in crime Count Oga, ordered a murder attempt aggainst Prince Charming when he was a child, to prevent him from marrying Snow White, and this way she could become ruller of the kingdoms of Fortunia and Bravuria. Troughout the film, you think that she could win, since she has powerfull magic, spy and a mighty army at her comand, wich makes the viewer get all the more excited on the seat, that is how enjoyable Medina’s Queen is.
And my Number One Portrayal of the Wicked Queen is...
01º Lucille La Verne as the Queen in Disney’s Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs (1937)
The first encarnation of the character that i ever saw in my childhood, and the one that still sends chills/shivers to my spine. As a young Queen, she rarely smiles, acting cold and calculating, intidimidating who is subordinate to her with the expression of her eyes and highbrows. And as a Crone, she lowdly indulges in her cruelty, offering the poisoned apple to her pet raven to scare him, and mocking the dead skeleton of a prisoner inside the castle’s dungeons. That balance between cold calculism and loud cruelty, where both are equally unsetling and scary, is something very hard to achieve, but i think this encarnation did a very good job in achieving that balance, that every other  portrayal that camed tried to draw influence from it ever since. And that’s why Disney’s Wicked Queen is my Number One portrayal.
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Addi Adamets in Schneewittchen (1955), Marianne Christina Schiling in Schneewittchen (1961) and Sonja Kirchberger in Sechs Auf Einen Streich (2009)

Ok, weird ask, but I've been thinking how crazy it is that there's still not a big movie about Anne and Tim!
Like, the story has absolutely everything a Hollywood drama might even dream of:
The British monarchy (which always sells)
STOLEN LOVE LETTERS (honestly the script writes itself)
The threat of divorce and scandal in a pompous and old fashion institution (like, downtown abbey was written with less of a scandal in mind)
A shity ex
Cute af kids
Tim having to give up his job if they were found out!
The fact that Tim boss was The Queen
(even though it was probably not a problem for them) the fact that Tim would be seen as Anne social inferior (I've seen period movies go on for two hours just on that premise ffs)
Hot princess
Hot officer
That it's not a supper know love story (so it would still be interesting) but has enough of a recognizably environment (the mess the rf was in the 90s)
And the undeniable fact that they are soul mates and their characters complement each other's to perfection.
It honestly has it all!!! (I know you know this, but seriously, my frustration after writing this 😤)
And the worst part is that probably the best will ever get is whatever mess the crown does for this season
My frustration after reading this 😭😭😭
You’ve literally read my mind. I have nothing to add except WHYYYY??! I mean we didn’t even get one of those awful Hallmark-style films when they got married! How could they not go for it? It literally sounds more like a movie plot than reality!
Sigh. I’m really hoping that if we get two Anne centric episodes, or even two stories that can develop in the background, it will show the beginning of their relationship. I’m also thinking they’ll probably do an episode called Annus Horribilis, where the three siblings’ marriages all break down. That will be 1992, so probably in season five, but Anne was the first to separate three years before. That and the letters being stolen go hand-in-hand, so it should happen this season, and her and Tim’s wedding would be in the 1992 ep!
Even if that’s all we get, I hope they’ll give just enough to pique interest and then people can read about them and see for themselves that there should be a movie. I love you for sending me this but now I’m just angry that we’re so deprived 😂

Inside Johnny Depp and Y/N Y/L/N’s Stunning $1.9M New Orleans Home! - Article by Rita Joseph, November 2018
A casually dressed Y/N opens the door on a bright and sunny but chilly Friday afternoon. The Golden Globe nominated actress is just as stunning makeup free and in an old college sweatshirt and jeans and her hair pulled back from her face as she is in expensive designer gowns and jewelry; right behind her is her husband Johnny Depp and their dog Jack Sparrow. “Hey, come on in!” Immediately, I’m greeted with warmth and the scent of cinnamon. The entrance is narrow, and there is a wooden table next to the door with a small bowl which hold two sets of car keys, but there are two doorways across from each other: on the left is the sitting room, and on my right is the dining room with its painted blue walls contrasted with white curtains and a chandelier hanging above the table.
We start with the sitting room which holds a lime green couch adding a nice touch of color against the white walls. There is also a gold ceiling lamp and a glass coffee table. “This is our sitting room, but we use it for a little bit of everything, like a storage room or sometimes a guest would want to sleep in here when they visit because it’s so quiet as opposed to upstairs because we still have teenagers, and there’s a lot of banging around in the morning getting ready for school, or we’ll have friends over.” Those friends would include Brad and Angelina (before the divorce), Tim Burton and Eva Green, Helena Bonham Carter, and Depp’s Hollywood Vampires band mates Joe Perry and Alice Cooper. What great company to keep!
From the sitting room we head into the dining room. “We actually painted the dining room a week after we moved in. All of the walls in the house were white and we thought it was way too much, so we decided to paint it a different color,” Depp said. “The tables and chairs actually belonged to Y/N’s sister and we bought it off her in ‘07 when she moved to another city, and that couch in the other room we bought after Nathan and Noelle’s first birthday.” “It was their favorite thing to play on when they were babies. So hard to believe that was 2004,” Y/L/N reminisced. The blue walls are decorated with a few of Depp’s paintings with a molding of a deer’s head that Y/N got at a flea market.
As we exit out of the dining room, I get a good look at the other side of the wall facing the staircase as we go into the living room. The entire wall is covered in a black and white photo of a jazz band taken at a Mardi Gras parade a few years ago, and there is a nice sized wine cabinet which is the size of a recording booth with only one bottle of wine in it; Johnny has cut back on drinking, but still enjoys a glass of wine every now and then. “I’m not as young as I used to be, and I’m runnin’ around on stage all night so I want to be as healthy as possible when I’m performing and to see the rest of my babies grow up.” The rest of his babies would be Nathan and Noelle, fraternal twins born in 2003. Their oldest kids include 26-year-old Star Wars star John Christopher III, born in 1992, and 22-year-old The Greatest Showman actress Camille.
The living room is gorgeous but simple; an all white leather reclining sectional with built in cup holders surrounds a small wooden coffee table in front of the fireplace which has a flat screen television above it. There’s a chandelier in this room as well, similar to the one in the dining room, and the wooden table behind the sectional breaks up the whiteness of the room. “This is where everyone spends the majority of their time. Morning, noon, night, weekends, we are here, with the older kids when they come over for dinner on Sundays. They’ll come over in the afternoon and stay the whole day.” Even with the oldest kids moved out and with houses of their own, the Depps are still a close knit family with Camille and John Christopher, or Three as he’s called by friends and family, living minutes away. Depp family favorite weekend activity? “Cooking breakfast together and then going to the nearby park or to a flea market or farmers’ market. There’s always something to do do in the city so you’re never bored,” the Dark Shadows actor explained.
When I asked them why they decided to move away from Hollywood, it was an easy answer. Y/L/N said: “we wanted to give them a normal childhood, and you can’t really have that when there are people taking pictures of you in your school uniform heading into school.” The couple moved to the Big Easy before Johnny began filming the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie in 2002, and speaking of cooking, the kitchen is next, and it is every homeowner’s dream. The white marble kitchen island doubles as a sink with its clear backed chairs and a sleek gold light fixture hanging above. A few feet away is a rectangular table with four shelves.
“This is my favorite room. I’m always cooking, and this is pretty much multipurpose room. We do game nights, eat meals, the twins do homework here.” When I joked about the chandeliers, the two only laughed, with Y/N adding, “you’re gonna be seeing a lot of chandeliers in this house. I loved them as a child and always wanted one. Or thirteen. We actually got each of them at Home Depot or Wayfair, and they look good in every room.” At this point, Jack Sparrow begins barking and runs to the front door (the dog, not Depp who plays the beloved swashbuckler). Noelle and Nathan are home from school and they follow the dog into the kitchen.
They are taken aback as they take in the camera man, as they wash their hands in the sink before reaching for the snacks. “Oh, I thought this was happening tomorrow,” Noelle remarks as she reaches for a bag of trail mix from a cabinet and a bottle of water from the fridge. “You have drivers ed tomorrow,” Y/N instantly in mom mode. “And your uniforms are hanging up in the laundry room.” Johnny and Y/N are athlete parents with Nathan playing on his school football team while Noelle is a cheerleader. After getting an okay from the twins to tour their rooms, we head upstairs after the examining the wall of pictures in the upstairs hallway.
Some pictures that have never been made public: a tired looking Y/N in a hospital bed after giving birth to their children, followed by a procession of school portraits and certificates from school. John Christopher and Camille’s graduation and prom pictures. Family outings at the near by park which featured a heavily pregnant Y/N circa early 2000s. A picture of Depp’s late mother Betty Sue and Y/N’s Aunt Claudia smiling as they played cards. And then there were the family portraits.
One that started with John Christopher as a newborn in 1992, then adding Camille in 1996, followed by the twins in 2003. Black and white photos of grandparents and great-grandparents, photos of Depp and Y/L/N ancestors, and the framed Polaroids of Y/N and Depp in Vegas on their honeymoon, after they eloped in summer 1991 after less than a year of dating, and I had to ask the question that’s still on peoples’ minds years later: why elopement? “We were young and didn’t want to go through the process of planning a wedding. I proposed a day after meeting her aunt and uncle and two days later we were married.” You remember that day like it was yesterday; you and Johnny went on vacation to visit your aunt and uncle so they could meet him for the first time as your boyfriend. They loved him, of course and at that point, you’ve only been dating for four months and it was getting serious to the point where Johnny called you his future wife and mother of his children in interviews (which probably wouldn’t be too distant in the future since your period was late). He proposed the night before you left for L.A. after your aunt and uncle had gone to bed and you immediately said yes.
After settling back home, you two took a road trip to Las Vegas the very next day and twenty seven years later, you’re still very much in love. I asked them why move to New Orleans, to which Depp answered: “Y/N was filming a movie here after Three was born, and when I came to visit her with the baby, I think it was during Mardi Gras, we had an amazing time. The food was just incredible, and the people were amazing, and no one gave a fuck about who we were. Once Camille was born, we kept coming back as much as we could, and we decided we wanted to build a life here.” The first room we enter after reaching the landing is the master bedroom. The walls are painted a nice gray, and, you guessed it, a chandelier. “This is our room, where we rarely get any sleep because we have the kids always running in and out for whatever reason--”
“And we also climb into bed with them too,” Noelle interjects. “And other times we just do it to annoy them,” Nathan backs up his sister’s statement. The bathroom is gorgeous with a white tiled floor; the shower stall is in a corner next to Y/N’s vanity, and across from it is a jacuzzi tub set next to a window that had a few candles along the edge, and adjacent from the tub is a double sink. “This is our bathroom, and we do more unwinding here than the bedroom. Whenever one of us comes home from filming or press tours or whatever, we’re in the tub, probably falling asleep.” Next we move to Noelle’s room and it’s something out of a Pintrest board
Pretty pastel pinks and fluffy white rugs and throws with a nice swing chair in a corner, which she calls her reading nook. Black and white framed pictures of her mom from her modeling days as a teenager and pictures of friends and family fill in space on her walls. “Every piece of furniture came from either Wayfair or Overstock. They have such great deals on furniture and rugs, and I’m always scrolling through their websites.” Nathan’s room is a typical boy’s room. It’s a cool gray scale vibe with a portion of the wall behind his bed painted black and there are shelves on either side of the bed filled with books, picture frames and sports trophies. “Dad and I repainted this wall almost a month ago. The sun shines so bright in the mornings and it’s always a pain, and I love when a room is cold and dark.”
He admits to sleeping with the fan on at night, even in the winter. There’s a sleek desk in the corner that holds a laptop and a stack of books, and next to it, against the wall, is a decent sized book shelf. Nathan likes to read, a trait that he and the rest of his siblings picked up from their parents. He and Noelle are having a competition to see who could read the most books by the end of the year. The next room is a low ceilinged guest room which is where Depp’s mother Betty Sue lived her last days.
“This used to be Grandma Betty’s room. Jack comes in here all the time, and we’d find him just laying on the bed,” Nathan says, touching a portrait of his grandmother. The next room is pretty much a music studio, as there’s a drum kit, bass guitars, electric guitars, and a keyboard. The walls are covered with the kids’ school art projects over the years. The room is frequented by Depp’s band the Hollywood Vampires whenever they blow into town, where they write and record new music, and Noelle receives guitar lessons from her father and Cooper. The last room we reach is a game room/homemade home movie theater.
There’s a nice flat screen on the wall and plastic storage bins containing video games, game controllers, and DVDs; Noelle used the room to host a sleepover a few weeks ago, and Nathan and his friends used it to launch water balloons at the neighborhood boys during the summer, which he realizes he makes a mistake in admitting this in front of his parents. Finally we come to the last part of the tour, the backyard which holds a patio and a swimming pool. “I know it doesn’t feel like it now, but we were using the pool up until a week ago. During the spring and summer months, we’ll invite the neighbors over for barbecues or they’ll invite us.” It’s November, and Thanksgiving is a week away. The entire Depp family plans on spending the holiday at the Kentucky ranch Johnny bought for his mother with his siblings. Before we leave, Y/N offers me and the camera man Justin a snack of green tea and cinnamon rolls ushering us politely out of the door so they could have dinner and get ready for Nathan’s game.
The video is now up on architecturaldigest.com and on our YouTube channel.
The video is uploaded on YouTube to great reviews; the viewers love how down to earth and humble you are and that you didn’t spend a ton of money on furniture and other unnecessary miscellaneous items in the house while others wish they had a room like Noelle’s when they were teenagers. The comments range from: i’m a simple person. i see johnny depp’s name and i click on it-user26. i love how they live in a normal looking house in a normal neighborhood. i’m so glad they raised their kids outside of hollywood because john christopher and camille are the most humble nepo kids in the industry and always acknowledge their privilege. can’t say the same for others.- user89. Jeff Buckely Mystifying Caucasian Male  by KARA VANDERBIJL
Jeff Buckley’s brief intro before launching into a cover of “Dido’s Lament” is murmured in a ghost’s timbre, barely outdoing the white noise on the recording even at highest volume. His audience laughs, spooked, then the piano opens. “Thy hand, Belinda,” Jeff sings. His is a freakish voice, made all the more odd by the grainy quality of the recording; a high falsetto mimicking the dramatic mezzo-soprano for which Purcell wrote the aria. He wails — his voice almost breaks, but doesn’t. Listening, we want it to break; the melody is too pure, its perfect desperation too stringent for this wild, unpredictable thing. Remember me, forget my fate. It’s this drama, the constant rediscovery and redelivery of a familiar, worked-over, oft-repeated tune that defines Jeff Buckley’s work. Like his voice, each song defies an original genre or mood, turning back to a more primal source. Is it a lament? A mockery? A strange self-issued prophecy from a man who, two years later, would walk into the Wolf River in Memphis, TN and drown? Like many of his other performances, this one (a set at the 1995 Meltdown Festival in the UK) now only exists on the web, maybe even on fragments of a video somewhere. Had Jeff Buckley lived past the age of 30, it might have remained among the other, less-than-perfect detritus of a long and successful career. But when the talented die young, we like to watch their home videos. Their unprotected moments. Their failures, blow-ups, fuck-ups. Anything that might give us clarity about their end: what “brought them to this point.” Short of simply accepting that it was death that did Buckley in, we might say it was the success that got him.
Only four years earlier, Jeff had sung in public for the first time, at a tribute concert for his estranged father Tim Buckley. They had met once, when Jeff was eight, after one of Tim’s shows; two months later, Tim overdosed on heroin. Neither Jeff nor his mother Mary Guibert were invited to the funeral. When Jeff stepped onto the stage at Saint Ann’s in Brooklyn to sing Tim’s “I Never Asked to Be Your Mountain”, most people weren’t aware that Tim had a son, and most people who knew Jeff didn’t know he could sing — he’d patented himself, stubbornly, as a guitarist — so the evening unveiled not only Jeff’s vocal talent but also exactly where it had come from. This pissed Jeff off. If anything, he had hoped to use the brief set as his way of paying his respects, of breaking away from Buckley senior. Years later, when a fan shouted a request for one of Tim’s songs, Jeff looked her straight in the eye and said, “I don’t play that hippie shit.”
Jeff escaped Anaheim, CA, where he’d been born, leaving behind what he described as a “rootless trailer trash” existence. He’d been struck by New York fever. Over the next year and a half, he played at coffee shops and nightclubs in Lower Manhattan, and eventually earned a regular Monday night slot at Sin-é in the East Village, accompanying himself on the guitar. He covered Bob Dylan. Nina Simone. Van Morrison. Singing “Sweet Thing” once, with Glen Hansard, a then still-obscure Buckley drew a crowd — so large that people began pressing up against the windows outside the club — by taking the second verse through a series of vocal gymnastics that lasted fifteen minutes. A brief writing streak with Gary Lucas resulted in two original songs, “Mojo Pin” and “Grace”, that Jeff nevertheless rarely played in his set. Lucas also invited Buckley to perform in his band, Gods and Monsters, early in 1992. By that time, however, the streets outside Sin-é were lined with record label executives hoping to snag Buckley for a solo album. That October, Buckley signed with Columbia, hired a drummer and bassist, and recording for what would be his first and only studio album, Grace, began the next summer. A quick EP, Live at Sin-é was released in November ‘93, documenting Jeff’s coffee-shop years, a time he’d long for intensely almost as soon as he left it. Jeff was not prolific; of the ten songs on Grace, he penned only three on his own. Lee Underwood, Tim Buckley’s guitarist, said once that Jeff suffered from an all too-relatable sort of creative inertia. “[He] felt uncertain of his musical direction, not only after signing with Columbia, but before signing, and all the way to the end. He did not know himself — which musical direction he might want to commit himself to, because taking a stand, making a commitment to a direction, or even to composing and then successfully completing the recording of a single song, was extremely difficult for him. One the one hand, creativity was his calling. On the other hand, any creative gesture that offered the possibility of success terrified him.” To speak nothing of the looming shadow of a father he never spoke of, to whom he was inevitably compared, as well as a sort of dogged perfectionism that plagued his studio sessions.
Spending hours, as he did, overdubbing the vocals until he had reached what he felt was the optimal delivery, Jeff seemed reluctant to pin any one mood onto his work. Andy Wallace, Grace’s producer, had to piece several of the songs together from dozens of takes. The music was in constant metamorphosis, to the point where later, live renditions of the songs sounded different, singular, wed to whatever Buckley had learned or felt or needed in between one performance and the next. He seemed to rewrite them each time. Grace is disparate, wavering between the almost cacophonous landscapes of “Mojo Pin”, “Grace”, “Last Goodbye”, and “Eternal Life”, the hushed, sacramental “Corpus Christi Carol”, and the desperate “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over”. Buckley alternately whispers or wails, seems to laugh and growl, shreds remarkably. The music is a story as emotionally complex as its author — calling it simply brooding or romantic minimizes its scope. In reality it is confused, mystifying, indecisive.
The album, like the EP preceding it, sold in a slow trickle. Jeff’s songs rarely made it to the airwaves. Critics were either charmed by its triumph or turned off by what, altogether, seemed to be a confusing melange of emotions and genres. The French loved it, though, and in 1995 awarded Jeff with the Grand Prix International du Disque, an honor he shared with the likes of Edith Piaf, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, and Bob Dylan. David Bowie claimed that Grace was the one album he’d want with him on a desert island. Meanwhile, Jeff silenced restless crowds in concert halls across the globe with a few strums of his guitar, with a Buddhist-like opening chant called “Chocolate” that hushed chatter until you could hear a pin drop. Only then would he break into “Mojo Pin”. Putting Buckley’s cover of the Cohen song in a separate category — as I undoubtedly must — “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over” is Grace’s masterpiece. Jeff introduced it first at Sin-é when he signed with Columbia, luring listeners who had previously doubted his ability to produce a decent song of his own. Back then it was just Jeff and his guitar, sans the divine harmonium intro, the swelling gospel choir, absolutely pure. Lyrically, it’s as seductive as it is sad — as Jeff escalates to “It’s never over/my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder,” a tingle begins deep down. It’s as much the power of his voice as the power of his poetry. He chokes it out, like an old love letter he’s been forced to read aloud.
I will say this about “Hallelujah” — everything blooms from the single, conquered breath that opens it. Buckley is remembered for these quieter contributions, and appropriately so; in a way they serve as auto-epitaphs. An incredible mimic, he nails Nina’s voice during brief moments in “Lilac Wine” and rivals any choir boy with Britten’s “Corpus Christi Carol”, which had been introduced to him by a friend in high school. But it’s palpable anger that colors the rest of Grace, anger that Jeff would take with him on tour and into the beginnings of his second album, My Sweetheart, The Drunk. He butted heads with the bigwigs at Columbia when he refused to make a music video. He alienated friends, his photographer Merri Cyr, and some of his strongest supporters with careless words. Seamlessly integrated into his public image were frequent moments of conflict, uncertainty, and stubbornness, most of them related to his burgeoning fame, and almost always triggered by casual comparisons with the late Tim Buckley. When People Magazine nominated Jeff as one of their “50 Most Beautiful People” in 1995, something snapped. He dyed his hair black and stopped washing it. He wallowed, thin, in giant thrift-store plaid shirts and Doc Martens. On stage, Grace changed: “Buckley and the band were now playing harder, faster, and louder than ever before, transforming slow-burning epics — ‘Last Goodbye’, ‘So Real’, ‘Eternal Life’ and the title track — into rock and roll firestorms that bordered on the metallic. ‘Mojo Pin’ circa 1996 was almost unrecognizable: Buckley screamed so hard as the song built to its thunderous climax that you feared he’d cough up a vocal cord,” wrote Jeff Apter, one of Buckley’s biographers.
Touring took its toll on Jeff; he needed peace and quiet to work things out, to create, but the frenzy of the road worked up a hysteria in him. Once, in Ireland, he disappeared for a few hours in the afternoon and walked around singing and playing guitar in the pouring rain, skipping interviews and a sound check. Another time he arrived so drunk on stage he broke into a rendition of one of his father’s songs. Yet another time, wasted, he fell asleep underneath a table at a show in Manhattan. Another musician would have been thinking of giving the public a second album to chew on; Jeff was just trying to stay alive. Returning to New York in 1996 after two years on the road, he found the Village, which had once afforded him the comfortable hum of cappuccino machines, the safety of coffee shop anonymity, completely transformed. Sin-é had closed its doors. What few shows he did play, he had to advertise under pseudonyms. He needed a quiet spot, a shrine. So, in early ‘97, he went to Memphis. During the last few months of his life, Jeff Buckley lived in a shotgun house which he rented for a paltry $450 a month. He owned little more than a couch, a telephone, and a telephone book. What time he did not spend cycling back and forth from a Vietnamese restaurant he spent lying in the grass in his backyard, or at the butterfly exhibit at the Memphis Zoo. He played at a beer joint called Barrister’s, quietly. He recorded sketches of new songs on Michael Bolton cassettes that he’d picked up for pennies and sent them to his band in New York. My Sweetheart, The Drunk tremulously came together. On May 29th, the band flew into Memphis to begin recording. That night, Jeff sang Led Zeppelin as he waded into the river.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Royal Wedding: A Look Back at Past Carriage Processions!
We're just three months away from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding!
Fans of the couple have been patiently awaiting to hear new details about their special day, and early Monday, Kensington Palace revealed when, how and where all the different festivities will go down.
We learned that following the wedding service, which kicks off at 12 p.m. GMT at St. George's Chapel in Windsor, England, the then-newlyweds will take a carriage procession from the chapel along the High Street and through Windsor Town before returning to Windsor Castle. "They hope this short journey will provide an opportunity for more people to come together around Windsor and enjoy the atmosphere of this special day," Kensington Palace said in the statement.
The regal carriage procession in celebration of marriage has actually been done by plenty of members of the royal family in the past. We've rounded up a few of the most memorable ones!

Princess Margaret seemingly took a cute from her sister, also opting for a wedding dress designed by Norman Hartnell. However, she ultimately called it quits from Armstrong-Jones in 1978, the same year he remarried to Lucy Mary Lindsay-Hogg.

How their love affair blossomed
The Princess Royal and Commander Timothy Laurence
HELLO! Number 233 | Published: December 19th 1992 | Article 2/2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Princess Anne's happy secret that she planned to wed Commander Timothy Laurence leaked out it brought much-needed joy to the beleaguered royal family.
One of the rare happy moments in a year of royal troubles came in May when Anne danced around a ballroom in the arms of her dashing naval officer. By “going public" with Tim just four weeks after her divorce from Captain Mark Phillips, she signalled that she was planning a future with the Queen's former equerry.
It was also her way of testing the water - to find out what the public's response might be. The general reaction was that the hard-working Princess deserved to find happiness at last after the break-up of her first marriage. But, in withholding the announcement of her betrothal until almost the last minute, Anne is once again proving that she likes to do things her way.
When she married Captain Phillips in 1973 she broke with royal precedent by insisting that her husband should not be given a title which he had not earned. This meant that her son Peter, 14, and daughter Zara, 11, have been the only grandchildren of a monarch this century who remain untitled.
Now Anne is once again setting a precedent by becoming the first divorced member of the Queen's family to marry for the second time. But, to avoid embarrassing her mother who is Supreme Governor of the Church of England, which does not sanction the remarriage of divorced people, she made the decision to wed in Scotland, because the Church of Scotland does not ban divorcées from remarrying.
And the man she has chosen comes from a vastly different background from her own. Tim Laurence is the great-great-great-grandson of a real-life merchant of Venice, called Zaccaria Levy, who in the 18th century left his home in the Italian city to forge a new life in England.
His business flourished and he became one of the first Jewish underwriters to become a member of Lloyds. In 1826, his son Joseph changed the family name to Laurence and by the next generation the family had abandoned its Jewish faith with Joseph's son, Percy, becoming an Anglican vicar.
And, at the weekend, Tim Laurence married in a Scottish village church, so different a setting from Princess Anne's first wedding in Westminster Abbey. But the Princess wants her new life to go on the way it began - out of the spotlight.
It was away from the limelight of official occasions ; that Princess Anne first began to notice Tim Laurence. In fact, they met through work - Tim was a junior officer in the Royal Navy, serving aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia. But it was not until 1986, when he became an equerry to the Queen, that they really got to know one another.
The Princess, who was frequently at Buckingham Palace on official duties, could not help bumping into the quiet, well-spoken young officer. And when she needed an adviser on her work for a charitable trust she thought of Tim Laurence immediately. Although the Princess was still married to Captain Philips, she was lonely. Tim was sympathetic and the soul of discretion but they maintained nothing ; more than a friendship.
At the same time, the Queen recognised her equerry's worth by turning to him constantly for assistance on her royal engagements. She awarded his diligence in August 1989 by making him a Member of the Royal Victorian Order, MVO, a personal award.
During this period, while the world speculated about her private life, Princess Anne simply got on with her job. The Queen grieved for her daughter and appreciated the fortitude Anne displayed over such a long period of unhappiness. Her dedication to a number of good causes, notably the Save The Children Fund won her the respect and admiration of the public and gradually the transformation from the former royal spoilsport, who told the Press to "Naff off", into the royal workhorse was completed.
To single her out from her sisters-in-law, the Queen wanted to honour her only daughter with the title Princess Royal. It was some time before Anne, who had been initially reluctant to accept, agreed - and the title was conferred in 1987. Between then and now the Princess Royal has devoted herself to her work but for the whole of this year her happiness has been evident to those around her and said far more than any Palace announcement.
And not even the ruby ring on her third finger, left hand, could match the sparkle in her eyes when the news was officially given that she and Tim would marry. Not so long ago, the Princess said: "Sailing on a sunny day with a fresh breeze blowing, with maybe somebody you really care for, is the nearest thing to Heaven I will get on this Earth", and it seems no coincidence that since she became close to Tim her love of sailing increased. At first the couple sailed on the Solent but when their plans to marry in Scotland were completed, her 36ft yacht Blue Doublet was moved to a new mooring on Lock Craigie.
Over the past month they have enjoyed several weekends sailing to the Outer Hebrides and to the islands of Jura and Mull. Far from the world's prying eyes, they could just be together, not Princess and commoner but friends who found love.

The Best Movies on Amazon Prime Video in India
Tumblr media
Amazon Prime Video's movie acquisitions might not have the same international depth as Netflix, but it's undoubtedly stronger and richer in its local variety, with its titles spanning the Tamil, Telugu, and the Malayalam world of filmmaking in addition to Bollywood. And that's matched with a powerful collection of American imports, to deliver a collection that can more than stand its ground against the world's biggest streaming service. It lacks with its original efforts — a few are present below, for what it's worth — but it's also a lot more affordable at Rs. 999 per year, versus Netflix's Rs. 650 a month. To pick the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, we relied on Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, and IMDb ratings to create a shortlist. The last of them was preferred for Indian films given the shortfalls of reviews aggregators in that department. Additionally, we used our own editorial judgement to add or remove a few. This list will be updated once every few months if there are any worthy additions or if some movies are removed from the service, so bookmark this page and keep checking in. Here are the best films currently available on Amazon Prime Video in India, sorted alphabetically. 12 Years a Slave (2013) Duped into slavery on the account of a job, Steve McQueen's adaptation of a free New York black man's (Chiwetel Ejiofor) 19th-century memoir is an incredible true story, and an important watch. 3 Idiots (2009) In this satire of the Indian education system's social pressures, two friends recount their college days and how their third long-lost musketeer (Aamir Khan) inspired them to think creatively and independently in a heavily-conformist world. Co-written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, who stands accused in the #MeToo movement. Agantuk (1991) In Satyajit Ray's last film, a mysterious and world-weary explorer returns to India after 35 years to see his only surviving relative, his niece, but has trouble convincing the family who he claims to be. Aladdin (1992) Disney puts its animation flavour onto the famous folk tale of a street urchin who disguises himself as a wealthy prince after finding a genie in a magic lamp, in an attempt to impress the Sultan's daughter. Amal (2007) After a poor Delhi auto-rickshaw driver (Rupinder Nagra) is named as the sole inheritor by a local billionaire (Naseeruddin Shah) just before his death, he must decide whether to keep it. American Beauty (1999) A depressed advertising executive (Kevin Spacey) in the midst of a midlife crisis falls for his teenage daughter's best friend, in Sam Mendes' satire of American middle-class that ultimately won five Oscars including Best Picture. Anand (1971) Rajesh Khanna stars as the eponymous happy-go-lucky man, who doesn't let his diagnosis of a rare form of cancer get in the way of enjoying what's in front of him. Told from the viewpoint of his doctor friend (Amitabh Bachchan). Hrishikesh Mukherjee directs. Anbe Sivam (2003) Kamal Haasan and R. Madhavan star in this Tamil cult film, in which the two are stranded over a thousand kilometres from home after heavy rain cancels all flights and strike up an unlikely friendship on their way back. Haasan also wrote the script. Andaz Apna Apna (1994) Two slackers (Aamir Khan and Salman Khan) who belong to middle-class families vie for the affections of an heiress, and inadvertently become her protectors from a local gangster in Rajkumar Santoshi's cult comedy favourite.
Tumblr media
Ankhon Dekhi (2014) After an eye-opening experience involving his daughter's marriage, a man in his late 50s (Sanjay Mishra) resolves that he won't believe anything he can't see, which naturally leads to some dramatic complications. Aruvi (2016) A social satire from a debutante writer-director, which follows an eponymous young woman (Aditi Balan), who going through a bout of existential crisis, decides to shine a light on the consumerist and misogynistic behaviours in her society. Back to the Future (1985) Not many films come close to the worldwide appeal and legacy left by this sci-fi entry featuring the iconic DeLorean that Michael J. Fox's character uses to (accidentally) time travel to when his parents were his age. Strange then that it didn't get the green light for years. Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) The heavily controversial Salman Khan stars as a devout Hindu Brahmin and an ardent devotee of Hanuman, who embarks on a journey to reunite a mute six-year-old Muslim girl, lost in India, with her parents in Pakistan. Kareena Kapoor co-stars. Salman is a convicted poacher, out on bail, and accused of culpable homicide, pending appeal. A Beautiful Mind (2001) The life of John Nash, a brilliant but asocial mathematician, from his spiral into paranoid schizophrenia and working on a secret project he made up, to regaining control over his life and becoming a Nobel Laureate. The Big Sick (2017) Kumail Nanjiani stars as himself in this rom-com loosely based on his romance with his wife, in which an aspiring comedian connects with his girlfriend's parents after she falls into a mysterious coma. Blood Diamond (2006) Set during the Sierra Leone Civil War at the turn of the century, an arms smuggler (Leonardo DiCaprio) promises to help a fisherman (Djimon Hounsou) find his family in exchange for a priceless diamond the latter found in a river. Bombay (1995) Set during the 1992–93 Bombay riots, writer-director Mani Ratnam offers a look at the communal tensions that cause a strain on the relationship between a Muslim woman (Manisha Koirala) and a Hindu man (Arvind Swamy). The Bourne trilogy (2002–07) Technically not a trilogy, but the first three chapters — Identity, Supremacy, and Ultimatum — starring Matt Damon in the lead as the titular CIA assassin suffering from amnesia were so good that they changed the longest-running spy franchise of all-time: James Bond. Brazil (1985) Terry Gilliam blends social satire with his signature visual inventiveness in this dystopian sci-fi set in a retro-future world, which follows a lowly clerk who becomes an enemy of the state after trying to correct an administrative error.
Tumblr media
Captain Fantastic (2016) After his bipolar wife suddenly dies, a single father (Viggo Mortensen), who brought up his six children living off the grid and isolated from society, must introduce them to the real world for the first time. Carol (2015) Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara star in this intimate, thoughtful and gorgeous drama about two lesbians living in polar-opposite worlds in 1950s New York, as they navigate societal customs and their own wants. Based on Patricia Highsmith's novel, The Price of Salt. Cast Away (2000) After his plane crash-lands in the Pacific, a FedEx employee (Tom Hanks) wakes up on a deserted island and must use everything at his disposal and transform himself physically to survive living alone. Catch Me If You Can (2002) Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks star in Steven Spielberg's biopic of Frank Abagnale (DiCaprio), who forged millions of dollars' worth of cheques as a teenager, while being pursued by an FBI agent (Hanks). Chak De! India (2007) Ostracised and vilified by the press and public, a former Muslim men's hockey captain (Shah Rukh Khan) plans to redeem himself by coaching the unpolished Indian women's hockey team to glory. Charade (1963) After her husband is murdered while trying to leave Paris, a young woman (Audrey Hepburn) is pursued by three men, who want a fortune he had stolen, and seeks the help of a stranger (Cary Grant). Known as “the best Hitchcock movie that Hitchcock never made”. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) Frequent collaborators Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are behind this ‘remake' of the 1971 original based on Roald Dahl's 1964 book, in which the title character — a young boy (Freddie Highmore) — wins a tour of an imaginative chocolatier's chocolate factory with four other kids. Chhoti Si Baat (1976) This remake of the 1960 British film School for Scoundrels transports the story to then-Bombay, where a meek young man (Amol Palekar) turns to life-coach Colonel (Ashok Kumar) to battle a suave, bold man for the affections of a woman. Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, and Hema Malini cameo as themselves. Basu Chatterjee directs. Chupke Chupke (1975) Hrishikesh Mukherjee's remake of the Bengali film Chhadmabeshi, in which a newly-wedded husband (Dharmendra) decides to play pranks on his wife's (Sharmila Tagore) supposedly smart brother-in-law, released in the same year as Sholay. Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan also star. Collateral (2004) Tom Cruise plays a hitman who takes a taxi driver, played by Jamie Foxx, hostage in Michael Mann's neo-noir crime thriller, in which the latter must figure out how to stop the former. The Conjuring (2013) A pair of paranormal investigators (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) are hired by a family who have been experiencing increasingly disturbing events at their farmhouse, in this effective horror from James Wan.
Tumblr media
Crazy Rich Asians (2018) Based on the novel of the same name, a Chinese-American professor travels halfway around the world to Singapore to meet her boyfriend's extremely-rich family, where she must contend with weird relatives, jealous socialites, and the boyfriend's disapproving mother (Michelle Yeoh). A Death in the Gunj (2016) In Konkona Sen Sharma's feature-length directorial debut, a shy and sensitive Indian student (Vikrant Massey) pays a heavy price for his gentleness, while on a road trip with his conceited relatives and family friends. Ranvir Shorey, Kalki Koechlin star alongside. The Death of Stalin (2017) Veep creator Armando Iannucci approaches this momentous occasion in the history of Russia through the lens of black comedy and political satire, depicting the power struggles that ensued following the titular dictator's death in 1953. Jeffrey Tambor, who stars, stands accused in the #MeToo movement. Dil Chahta Hai (2001) Farhan Akhtar's directorial debut about three inseparable childhood friends whose wildly different approach to relationships creates a strain on their friendship remains a cult favourite. Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Preity Zinta star. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol's characters fall in love during a trip to Europe with their friends in this now iconic film — which is still playing over two decades later in a single-screen Mumbai theatre — but face hurdles as the woman's conservative father has promised her hand in marriage to someone else. Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) After a court order mandates a video cassette store owner and an RSS volunteer (Ayushmann Khurrana) and a plus-sized teacher-in-training (Bhumi Pednekar) to salvage their failing marriage, the two begin to put themselves in each other's shoes, before deciding to take part in a piggyback race. Won a National Award. Ee. Ma. Yau (2018) A son struggles to organise the grand burial he promised his dad in this Malayalam-language black comedy that's largely shot in natural light. Lijo Jose Pellissery directs. The Exorcist (1973) One of the greatest horror films of all time, that has left a lasting influence on the genre and beyond, is about the demonic possession of a 12-year-old girl and her mother's attempts to save her with the help of two priests who perform exorcisms. Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) Roald Dahl's children's novel about a fox who steals food from three mean and wealthy farmers gets the stop-motion treatment from Wes Anderson, featuring the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, and Michael Gambon. Fight Club (1999) Brad Pitt and Edward Norton star in this cult hit from David Fincher, about a white-collared insomniac disappointed with his capitalistic lifestyle, who forms an underground fight club with a devil-may-care soapmaker, which evolves into something much more.
Tumblr media
Forrest Gump (1994) A slow-witted but kind-hearted man (Tom Hanks) takes part in a series of defining events of the second half of the 20th century in the US, while pining for his childhood love. Forushande (2016) Oscar-winner Asghar Farhadi uses Arthur Miller's play “Death of a Salesman” as his story within a story, to depict thematic parallels with the deteriorating relationship of an Iranian couple after an assault on the wife. The husband wants to find out who the attacker is against her wishes, while she deals with post-trauma stress. Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) Inspired by the 2008 Tamil-language film Subramaniapuram, Anurag Kashyap concocts a gangster epic that blends politics, vengeance, and romance as it looks at the power struggles between three crime families in and around the Jharkhand city of Dhanbad, the epicentre of the coal mafia. Ghare Baire (1984) Based on Rabindranath Tagore's novel of the same name, and set in the chaotic aftermath of the partition of Bengal, writer-director Satyajit Ray tells the story of a woman married to a forward-thinking man whose lives are upended by the appearance of the husband's radical friend. Ghostbusters (1984) A bunch of eccentric paranormal enthusiasts start a ghost-catching business in New York, and then stumble upon a plot to wreak havoc by summoning ghosts. Gave birth to one of the most iconic song lyrics in history. Gladiator (2000) Winner of five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe, this Ridley Scott-directed film tells a moving story of a Roman general (Crowe) who loses everything — his family and rank —to end up as a slave and then seeks vengeance on the perpetrator (Joaquin Phoenix). The Godfather (1972) In what is considered one of the greatest films of all-time, an aging leader (Marlon Brando) of a New York mafia transfers control of his empire to his youngest son (Al Pacino), who goes from a reluctant outsider to a ruthless boss. The Godfather Part II (1974) Francis Ford Coppola's follow-up to his original, centering on Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) at the top of the pecking order while offering a look back at his father's (Robert De Niro) past, is considered by some to be better than its predecessor. Gol Maal (1979) A chartered accountant (Amol Palekar), with a knack for singing and acting, falls deep down the rabbit hole after lying to his boss that he has a twin, in this Hrishikesh Mukherjee comedy. Gone Girl (2014) Based on Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel and directed by David Fincher, a confounded husband (Ben Affleck) becomes the primary suspect in the sudden mystery disappearance of his wife (Rosamund Pike).
Tumblr media

Gully Boy (2019) An aspiring, young street rapper (Ranveer Singh) from the slums of Mumbai sets out to realise his dream, while dealing with the complications that arise out of his personal life and the socioeconomic strata to which he belongs. Zoya Akhtar directs, and Alia Bhatt stars alongside. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) Alfonso Cuarón stepped behind the camera for what many consider to be the best Harry Potter film, as the boy who lived enters his third year at Hogwarts, and is told that Sirus Black, an escapee from the wizarding world prison Azkaban, is after his life. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) Working off the tone set by Alfonso Cuarón, the fourth entry in the series finds the titular chosen one pulled into an inter-school magical tournament, while battling the disturbing visions and the aching pain that stem from his forehead scar. Tim Burton Essay
About
Timothy Walter Burton is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, artist and animator who was born in Burbank California on the 25th August 1958, to mother Jean Rea Erickson and farther William Reed Burton. His mother Jean Rea Erickson was known for owning a small cat themed gift shop and his farther William Reed Burton initially worked as a minor league baseball player but later worked at Burbank Park and recreation department. Tim Burton is well known for his warped imagination on dark fantasy and horror and his unique style of which is very gothic and quirky. He has two children a daughter called Nell and a son named Billy to Helena Carter to whom he married. However, in 2014 the couple separated after 13 years of marriage.
Childhood
As a young child Burton made short films in his garden with his friends ranging from live action movies to stop motion. He would capture his films on his Super 8 mm camera. Burton spent most of his childhood painting, drawing and watching movies. He was inspired by DR Seuss, Roald Dahl and Edgar Allan Poe. He was also largely influenced with horror films of Roger Corman most of which featured Vincent Price. At the age of 13 he made his first film ‘The Island of Doctor Agor’. He was not a very academic student but did however play on the water polo team and graduate High school. After High school, he enrolled at California Institutes of arts where he studied character animation from 1976-1979. Whilst on the Animation Programme he produced two shorts ‘King and Octopus’ and ‘Celery Monster’ which were both written, directed and animated by Burton. Whilst working at California institutes of art he was noticed by Disney and offered to work as an apprentice for them in 1980, this was his first job.
 Career
His career started off by working for Disney as an animator for ‘The Fox and the Hound’ in 1981, he left within a year as he wanted to work independently but he later animated ‘The black cauldron’ for Disney in 1985. Whist working for Disney in 1982 Burton made his first short ‘Vincent’ which was a 6-minute black and white stop motion about a young boy who fantasizes that he is Vincent Price. The film was shown at the Chicago film festival and released. After producing ‘Vincent’ successfully Burton made his first live action film ‘Frankenweenie’ in 1994 this is about a young boy who tried to bring his dog back after being run over by a car. However, the film was unsuccessful as Disney fired burton as they deemed that his film was too inappropriate for young children as it was too dark and scary, this resulted in Disney losing loads of money and time. Despite the negative critics and feedback Burton received, he was noticed by Paul Reuben’s for his film ‘Vincent’. Reuben’s made Burton the director of his first full length feature film ‘Pee Wee’s big adventure’ in 1985 as he saw great potential in Burton. The film was a huge success making Burton popular and noticeable which brought upon his many other opportunities. In 1988, he directed ‘Beetlejuice’ this was a big hit and very popular in Hollywood. He was recognised by Warner brother studios in 1989 who asked him to direct ‘Batman’ which was based off a comic book series. ‘Batman’ became one of the biggest box office hits of all time, it became financially successful earning over $100 million in the first 10 days of release. In the year of 1990 Burton produced ‘Edward Scissorhands’ which was the first of many films to star Johnny Depp. The movie was nominated as his best movie to date. Not long after Burton directed the Batman Sequel ‘Batman returns’ in 1992. This starred Michelle Pfeiffer, Danny Devito and Christopher Walken however it was not a success because the public were hugely disappointed. In 1993 Burton produced ‘The nightmare before Christmas’ this was a stop motion film that took over 3 years to make, it was a commercial success. During this film, he worked with director Henry Selick and over 100 artists and technicians. He also produced a lot of the concept art and style for this film. A lot of his concept art was inspired by his drawings from when he was a child. In 1994, he reunited with Johnny Depp who featured in his film ‘Ed Wood’ a black and white portraiture, the film was a financial disaster as it failed to impress a large mass audience, however Martin Landau won an Oscar for it and it gradually become popular over the years. During 1996 Burton directed ‘Mars attacks’ which was very vibrant in terms of its colour pallet compared to his usual dark morbid films, it had mediocre reviews and wasn’t very popular. In 1999 Burton was praised for his art direction in his film ‘Sleepy Hollow’ starring Johnny Depp. The film was financially successful and he redeemed himself for his film ‘Mars attacks’. Two years later in 2001 he remade ‘Planet of the apes’ with Helena Carter an English actress and model, who he later entered a romantic relationship with and worked on many other films with. It is also known that Burton has a huge fear of apes, so working on this film was a big achievement for him. During 2003 he directed ‘Big Fish’ a conventional film which earned great critical praise and 4 golden globe nominations. He directed Johnny Depp in ‘Charlie and the chocolate factory’ in 2005 which was rated one of the quirkiest most unique films he had ever made.  Films
 The nightmare before Christmas
The nightmare before Christmas is a film that was produced and written by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick. It is about a skellington named Jack who has become bored of the same routine every year for Halloween, he is the king of Halloween town but wishes for something new, fun and exciting. He accidently ventures into Christmas town and is so fascinated by it that he wants to recreate it. During his attempt to recreate Christmas his Halloween themed gifts scare the children which ruins Christmas. Jack eventually realises what he has done so helps Santa fix Christmas town, they save the presents and Jack returns to being the pumpkin king of Halloween town. The film was made in 1993 it consisted of only 13 animators and over 100 trained camera operators, puppet makers, set builders and prop makers. It was the first animated Disney film to not be traditionally animated. The film was made on 24 frames meaning that for each second of film the character was posed 24 different times, this is what made the film such a time-consuming process. Also if there was a problem with an individual frame they would have to go back and re photograph the entire thing as it was done on film and not individual cell animation. The film took a week to make just 1 minute of film which made the film take over 3 years to make. There are 60 different characters which have up to 4 different duplicates for each one. Each puppet has an armature built inside of it to enable smooth movement. The sculpture department consisted of only 4 people. 400 replacement heads where used for Jacks facial expressions compared to Sally who had a replacement mask. To make jack blink replacement eyes where used that where wedged into his sockets. Gregg Olsson built a quarter scale mock-up of Halloween town to test before building the real set. The set had trapdoors and was divided into separate sections that came apart so animators could animate from beneath the set and small teams would work on individual pieces at the same time. Most of the sets required up to 30 lights to create extreme dramatic effects. “There were only 4 sculptors, who sculpted the characters in an oil based clay which was then smoothed out with alcohol so it was soft so that when it was moulded the hard mould that plastered it wouldn’t rip up the mould. Each puppet had an armature which consisted of ball and socket that enabled the movement of puppets. All the armatures were hand machined to fit perfect for each puppet. After sculpting, it went to the moulding department they then laid the steel armature in the mould and injected it with foam latex that covered the armature, it was then baked in the oven taken out of the mould and brought to fabrication who put the paint job, clothing, hair and fur which gave the puppet their full character which then would go out for animation.”
 The corpse Bride
The corpse bride is a 2005 British-American stop motion fantasy film directed by Mike Johnson and Tim Burton. It is based off an old Jewish folktale known as the finger. The film was located in Portland USA and Three mills studios London and the character designs were adapted from Tim burton’s sketches. It is set in a Victorian village staring two main characters Victor and Victoria who are betrothed to marriage due to success of money and high class. When things go terribly wrong at the wedding rehearsal victor practices his vows in the forest. When he finally gets them right Emily the corpse bride comes up from the grave and accepts his marriage proposal and takes him underground to the world of the unliving. Victor is confronted by the unliving and is concerned and anxious, he tries to escape but on his journey, realises that Emily is lovely and ends up caring for her. Putting her feelings aside Emily lets him return to the living world where he can marry Victoria and be happy. For the main characters in The Corpse Bride, a total of 300 puppets were built. The puppets included 14 individual Emily models and a dozen Victors. Corpse Bride relied on a newer technique than head replacements, this method involved puppet heads being filled with tiny gears. Miniscule keys are built to fit into the ears of the character, or in the back of its head. By inserting and twisting these, an animator can incrementally change the character’s expression.
Nominations / Awards
In 1984 Burton won an audience award for his film Vincent at Ottawa international animation festival. 6 Years later in 1990 he won The showest award at showest convention USA for director of the year. He won future film festival digital award in 2005 which he shared with mike Johnson for his film corpse bride and career golden lion award in 2007 both which were awarded at Venice film festival. In 2006 He received another award for corpse bride a BAA at the British animation award for best feature film. In 2008 Burton received an award for career achievement at the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival he also won the Houston film critic society award for best director in the film Sweeny tod the demon barber of fleet street. In 2010 he received the Winsor McCay award at Annie Awards and in 2012 and 2013 he received two awards for Frankenweenie which was nominated the best animated feature film, he also received an Italian online movie award and Los Angeles film critic association award.
Why Tim burton is a huge influence to me
Tim burton inspires me because he is a unique artist who has taken his childhood dreams and turned them into a reality. His work is influential because he worked on the corpse bride and the nightmare before Christmas both of which are stop motion and this is something I feel passionate about and want to go into. I find it fascinating how long the process takes and how much time and effort is put into his work. I love his art style as a lot of his films seem like they are based in the same world as the styles are very similar. I also like that his style is quite gothic and his choice of colour pallet as it is visually appealing to the eye and has a certain look about it. Through researching Tim Burton I have found out a lot about set design and puppet making which will help me make my stop motion 1 minute short.

Sheena was a studious pupil and earned good grades in school, so much so she earned her a scholarship to attend the the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, where she trained from 1975 to 1979 as a speech and drama teacher by day, while singing with a band called "Something Else” by night at local clubs.
Sheena Easton came into the public eye in an episode of the UK musical reality television programme The Big Time, hosted by Esther Rantzen,  which recorded her attempts to gain a record contract and her eventual signing with EMI Records. Easton’s first two singles, Modern Girl and 9 to 5, both entered the UK Top Ten, and she was the first UK female artist to appear twice in the same Top Ten since Ruby Murray. The songs however had both been released previously with no success, so it’s true to say that they became hits on the back of the TV show. 9 to 5 was renamed Morning train for the US market, to differentiate from the Dolly Parton song, the song catapulted her to worldwide fame, reaching number on stateside and  in several other countries.
I know many people don’t rate her much as a singer, but she was the first Scottish female singer to be awarded a Grammy in 1982. She also won in 1985 for Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album with Puerto Rican Luis Miguel It has always been the US where Sheena was appreciated more and she was nominated a further four times in the music industry’s top award show. Easton has had 5 gold albums of in the US, they are awarded for selling over 500,000 units, over here they only need to sell 100,000, she has also earned herself a platinum disc selling 1 million copies of her 1984 album A Private Heaven. Sheena has collaborated with many of the worlds top artists, too many to
mention, but the most memorable will of course be the ones with Prince, both onstage and on disc, the other notable one is with the late great Kenny Rodgers. Sheena has sold over 20 million records and singles worldwide.
In 1987, Easton appeared on several episodes of Miami Vice as Caitlin Davies, the wife of Don Johnson’s character Detective James “Sonny” Crockett. Other acting work followed through the years, including a cameo in the 1993 film Indecent Proposal, a co-hosting role on a Las Vegas morning show in 2003 and a regular role on PAX’s Young Blades in 2005. Easton also ventured onto Broadway, starring in two musical revivals during the 1990s: Man of La Mancha and Grease.
In 2015, Sheena went on a tour of symphony concerts called The Spy who Loved Me, featuring songs from spy movies and Bond style music. A year later, she joined the cast of 42nd Street as Dorothy Brock, and it premiered in March 2017 in London's West End. Lulu replaced her a year later.
While Sheena Easton flourished in many areas of career, she had challenges in her love life. Her first marriage, at 19 to Sandy Easton in 1979, lasted only eight months. Shortly after moving to the United States in 1981, she wed music-industry booking agent Rob Light; that union fizzled after a year and a half.
Easton later had a whirlwind romance with nature-film director Tim Delarm and married him in 1997, after a courtship of just a few weeks. One year later, the two split in a messy divorce. Marriage No. 4, to Beverly Hills surgeon John Minoli, survived just one year as well.
Sheena has been a US citizen since 1992 and is now based in Las Vegas where she appears regularly on stage, she has a son and daughter, who were both adopted.

“It’s them, but it’s not them !” 2/2 -Bruce Wayne x Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@m-fairbank also asked the same thing, things happening on Batmom’s point of you, and also some of the batboys...and I kinda planned something like that anyway. So here’s a sequel for “It’s her but it’s not her”, and I hope you’ll like it (and hope the “mixed feelings” were still good ones ;-)) AGAIN felt like I could write something better, might re-write everything...I rushed a bit writing it cause I’m in L.A but I also wanted to write something and...I guess it’s this kind of time eh.
Summary : Batman and his kids accidentally got send in an alternate dimension, and Batmom has the displeasure of realizing that her Bruce from this other world is...not hers at all.
FINISHED SERIES : PART 1
my master list blog :@ella-ravenwood-archives
_____________________________________________________________________
When your husband and kids came home with Diana and Clark, you didn’t think too much of it. It wasn’t unusual for your friends to come over to the bat cave and work, or even just chill.
But when you went to kiss Bruce, and you felt him stiffen under your touch. When he didn’t kiss back, and even moved away, his head moving back and forth between you and Clark, stunned. When your sons stared at you with wide eyes and open mouthes...you realized something was wrong.
-Wh...what is it ?
Bruce didn’t say anything, he found he couldn’t say anything. The Hell just happened ? Clark’s wife just kissed him ! And...What was she doing in the bat cave anyway, at this hour ?
Under your husband’s gaze, you felt uncomfortable for the first time in your life. Usually, he had the opposite effect on you, you were always so relaxed around him. Even during charity balls or such obligations you had as Waynes, when your introverted self felt awful, his mere presence calmed you down and helped you get threw the night.
But right now, the way he was looking at you made you shiver. You didn’t recognize his usual look...In his eyes right now, there were no love, no relief to see you well and alive, no joy, no slight impatience to finally get to bed with you. Instead, there was confusion, embarrassment, and a slight touch of curiosity maybe ?
And your children...None of them rushed to hug you first, or to tell you who’s ass they kicked this time.
Something was wrong. Terribly wrong.
Clark approached you, and laid a soothing hand on  your shoulder.
-They...Hum...They’re not who you think they are.
Diana rolled her eyes, leave it to Superman to not be able to actually explain something properly. She came close to you too, and said :
-There was an...accident with the League. A portal open and your family went threw, they came back, and they’re not...
-I understood what Clark meant.
Even though the situation was serious, Superman couldn’t help but give a look at Wonder Woman that meant : “See, she got it”. Diana stuck her tongue out to him. Those two could sometimes be so childish. And cute. But right now, you weren’t feeling like you could appreciate how cute they could be together.
You looked at Bruce, and you were sure everything was true. This wasn’t your Bruce. And they weren’t your children...You felt sick. And you fainted. The Batman was the fastest to catch you, and you collapsed in his arms.
You were as light as a feather, and holding you like that made him feel weird...he just couldn’t pinpoint what exactly were those feelings.
Alfred rushed toward you guys, and said :
-Oh my oh my oh my, let’s take her to your...hum...Her room I guess. Follow me...Master Bruce.
**********************
Bruce, not your Bruce, another one, took you to the room you shared with your husband. You were still unconscious. Too many emotions at once. What if this “portal” couldn’t be re-open, meaning you’d never see your family again ? No. That couldn’t happen. And yet...
Batman laid you down delicately in the bed, noticing that it was left undone and that there were definitely two people usually sharing this bed. He didn’t really know what he felt right now. So, in this World, you weren’t his best friend’s wife, you were...His.
-Come Master Bruce, let Lady (Y/N) rest, it must be quite a shock to...Well, you know.
He definitely knew. He couldn’t believe it, in his World, you and Clark were so in love...Yes, he knew you had a crush on him years ago, and he liked you too, but he also knew that in his line of work, there was no time for serious relationship and all...Was he wrong ? Did he make a mistake ? According to what his friends from this World’s League told him, everything was fine here too, mostly thanks to the Batman, to this other him who was...married. To you. His best friend’s dear wife. Who used to like him, and vice versa. He just couldn’t wrap his head around that.
Him and his children followed Alfred threw corridors, and they couldn’t help but stop at almost every pictures hung on the walls. It wasn’t austere paintings like in their house, it was colorful photographs.
Dick stopped in front of a picture where he just graduated from High School, and you and Bruce were on each side of him, arms around his shoulder. All of you smiled, even the bat. “I’m so proud of you son”, was written on the picture, signed by Bruce. A little cute heart followed by “I love you my wonder boy, you’re the most fantastic one ever !” was also written, with a signature he didn’t recognize, probably yours. His heart tightened, Bruce wasn’t even at his graduation day where he came from...
Jason’s eyes got attracted by a picture where he was sitting on Bruce’s shoulders. Bruce was looking up at him, a bright smile on his face, one of his hand holding his, while the other held the hand of Clark Kent’s wife...Apparently his wife in this world. You. Jason looked happier than he ever felt in this picture. In his free hand, the one Bruce wasn’t holding, he had some cotton candy. On the bottom of the picture was written : “Gotham Fair, summer 1996, picture proudly taken by yours truly, Dick Grayson”. How was this possible ? In his World, Bruce and Jason weren’t on the best terms at all. They actually rarely spoke, though they worked together...This was all so unsettling.
Tim was in front of a picture of him, age 10 or something. Bruce was holding him in his arms, hugging him lovingly. You were next to him, holding a trophy in your hand, and Tim recognize the science fair he won 7 years ago, but neither Bruce nor you (obviously) were there to congratulate him. He was smiling like crazy, his arms in the air as a sign of victory, and Bruce was raising him almost above his head, pride shining in his face. The caption under the picture read : “Timmy winning the science fair, 4th grade, picture taken by proud big brother Jason (Dick was flirting with Tim’s teacher, of course he would...)”. Tim felt tears welled up in his eyes, his life was so far from what he was seeing on this picture...
Damian stopped in front of one where it was just you and him. Outside on a snowy day. You were bending down a bit to be at his height, your arms slung around him, clearly laughing, and he was...smiling. Not of the fake smile he gave people at charity balls and such, no, a real, true, heartfelt smile. He never smiled like that...Also, he was holding your arms in a sideway hug. He couldn’t remember one time he ever hug anyone, or been hugged. Under the picture was written : “Damian and mom, Winter 2016, Dami’s first snowballs fight, picture taken by a very defeated Bruce”.
Bruce was standing in front of a picture that made his heart beat faster than ever. It was you and him, he wore a beautiful suit, and you were in a wedding dress. Your foreheads touched, and the smiles on both your faces were the most broad and beautiful. “Wedding day, 1992, picture taken by little Dickie”. His eyes then went to the picture next to that, you were both in front of a Japanese temple, he was kissing the crown of your head, and you were smiling, your hand splayed on his chest, your head on his chest. “Honeymoon, 1992, Japan”.  Next picture, you and him at a charity ball. You were so beautiful. The entire wall was just pictures of the two of you, and another life he could have had unfolded in front of him. That other Bruce seemed so happy...Maybe he did make a mistake by turning you down all those years ago.
Dick took him away from his sad thoughts :
-Wow. It sure seems like we have very different lives here eh...
-No shit right ? Maybe I never got beaten by the Joker with a crowbar here...
Alfred jumped in, so far, he didn’t say anything and let them look at the pictures that littered the walls :
-I’m afraid you did die, master Jason. However, Lady (Y/N) convinced you long ago to give up your...murderous ways you adopted after you came back to life.
-Oh...Well...Shit. That’s...That’s so weird. I feel weird.
-I feel weird too.
Tim said, looking at multiples pictures of himself and his brothers having a good time...Christmases, easters, birthdays...They were a real family here.
Damian didn’t say a word, but thought the same things. He felt jealous toward the other version of him. He had a dad and a mom. Real ones...
Bruce’s harsh voice stopped all of their thinkings.
-Let’s go boys, we have important things to do.
*******************
You woke up during the night, alone, and remembered everything. You felt sick again, but didn’t faint.
For the next two weeks, you tried to help them as best you could to find a way back home. You felt so strange, not being able to touch any of them without them stiffening under your fingers. You felt so strange, not being able to kiss your husband, or hold your children. You felt...incredibly sad. You missed them so much.
And they were no better. They had a hard time handling their discoveries. That in this world, they were a family, they were happier. Everything was not always perfect, according to Alfred, but they were...together.
Alfred’s heart bleed with the thought that somewhere, his Bruce wasn’t the one he raised at all. Somewhere, he never met you, and never got out of the dark well he fell into when he was 8. Somewhere, he was just The Dark Knight and nothing else...and apparently, he had a very difficult relationship with his sons.
You intervened multiple times to stop a dispute that sprout between them. All of this was so wrong...
At night, Bruce couldn’t sleep. More than usual. Plagued with dreams about what his life could have been.
*********************
Finally, they found a way home, though they weren’t sure they really wanted to leave. But they couldn’t stay, they couldn’t steal what their other selves had. It wouldn’t be right.
You felt a deep sadness in your heart though, as you saw them leave. From your understanding, their lives weren’t the greatest, and you couldn’t help but feel terrible at the thought of your children, and him, your Bruce, being miserable...however, they weren’t really yours, and when your family went threw the portal to return to you, you forgot everything. It made you feel guilty for a while, but what could you do ? Bruce’s decision in the other World were his. You felt so guilty feeling like it was his fault if things went that way...but realistically, it was...He’s the one that didn't let you enter his life.
However, the thoughts of that other Bruce, Dick, Jason, Tim and Damian never left you. From the day your family came back, you loved them even more than before, if that was possible, and took care of them even more too. Because you realized that without you, things would be very different, and you hated how things would be. You hated the fact that they all looked so sad and distressed. That they all seem to lack love and affections so much. It made you physically sick to think about those other boys...So you turned your pain for them into love for the one you had. For your husband. For your sons. Because here, they were yours. And they’d always be yours.
However, you could just never forget about them, even though you thought it was kind of that other Bruce’s fault. You just couldn’t be that cold. Your heart went to those boys, and to the man that never married you. It might have been his fault if it didn’t happen, but you knew he didn’t deserve to be miserable...
******************
Back in his dimension, he was thinking about it, and would definitely agree with you. It was his fault. And he knew now that he made a terrible mistake years ago. He should’ve never turned you down all those years ago. Maybe now, he wouldn’t feel so hollow, so empty...Maybe you were the missing piece. But he could never have you. Not anymore, it was too late. You just had Clark’s child...
He put his head in his hands, and let himself cry. For the first time in years. Because the thought of what he let go off was just too painful. Things could be so different, for him AND for his children. Especially for the kids...they deserved so much better than a broken man unable to show them his affection.
They deserved you. But you were going to love that child you just got with Clark. His son was going to have the life his children should have had.
And it was all his fault...
The End.

From Elizabeth Hurley to Princess Diana: Gianni Versace’s Fashion Legacy in Pictures

July 15 marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Gianni Versace, the internationally renowned fashion designer who was murdered outside his Miami home.
Today, young fashion fans might be more likely to recognize his sister, Donatella, with her platinum blond hair and smoky black-lined eyes, who doesn’t shy away from red carpet appearances with pop stars like Lady Gaga.

But it is Gianni who is credited with creating some of the 1990s’ most iconic fashion moments as well as pioneering high-impact celebrity marketing. That is, Gianni Versace created the supermodel.

While Olivier Rousteing may stack his Balmain fashion shows today with “it” girls like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner and Joan Smalls, Gianni Versace did it more than two decades prior, immortalizing fashion’s first supermodel super-pack: Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, and Christy Turlington.

Gianni Versace’s legacy, of course, is about more than smart marketing and celebrity, even if millennials — many of whom were born after the designer’s death in 1997 — only know Versace as part of a Migos song or for a Zayn Malik collaboration.
Tumblr media
In 2013, rap trio Migos released a song called “Versace,” which became a mega radio and club hit. This image, taken from the song’s music video, shows the artists wearing the boldly printed designs of the Versace fashion house. (Photo: MigosVEVO)
After Gianni Versace’s murder in 1997, Donatella took control of the brand’s creative direction. The 20-year anniversary of her brother’s death isn’t lost on her; she told the New York Times’ Style section that her most recent runway show was an homage to Gianni’s legacy.
But what legacy is that, exactly?

It’s not just about the Medusa head that Gianni Versace is credited with popularizing, emblazoned on the brand’s universally recognizable logo. (Despite his Italian heritage, Gianni was enthralled by stories of seduction in Greek mythology, as chronicled by a new Versace fashion exhibition at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, which runs through September.)
Versace is sex. It’s provocation (some say it’s offensive). It’s bright colors and boldness and power, and it is baroque opulence, at least according to fashion critics.

To be sure, there are plenty of unknown designers who might’ve stood for the same, but Versace managed a perfect trifecta of celebrity, media, and sexuality. Vogue’s Anna Wintour said as much in a Nightline interview following his death: “Gianni stands for glamour and the Oscars and sexiness and power, and … something a little wicked. He didn’t believe in being boring.”
If Versace was repulsed by things you were obliged to wear, as he told Charlie Rose in a 1994 interview, he was certainly attracted to that which you were not supposed to wear, at least not in public. Indeed, the designer’s most impactful show, perhaps, was the Fall 1992 collection that “knocked down some fashion shibboleths and established some guides for the future. But the shimmering surface only lightly veiled a disturbing undertone,” according to the New York Times’ review. It was called Miss S&M, and as the name suggests, there was a lot of leather and bondage.

When Versace wasn’t busy challenging sartorial dictates, he was dressing Hollywood royalty and actual royalty. There was the iconic safety pin dress worn by Elizabeth Hurley (pictured as the lead image in this story) to the 1994 premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral, solidifying her Hollywood A-lister status. But Hurley remained a fan of Versace beyond that, wearing the brand again to the 1995 Oscars.

While everyone from Claudia Schiffer to Donatella has been paying tribute to Gianni Versace via social media, below are a few more images of the late designer and his memorable looks.
