I used to have a really hard time bringing up the fact that I graduated from high school a year late without feeling the need to explain why and insisting that it wasn't my fault while simultaneously kicking myself for how much I sounded like I was just making excuses for something I should take responsibility for.
Then I watched Dimension 20's "The Seven" and suddenly I could simply say that I was a super senior.
The first time I heard the phrase "super senior" was in reference to Antiope Jones, a Black girl who had been held back a year after getting kidnapped and imprisoned by members of a fundamentalist cult, and like, girl, same.
So, since then, instead of anxiously spinning out any time I tried to tell a personal high school anecdote, I could just say I was a super senior, and then my brain would auto complete that statement with "like Antiope Jones" and I'd feel good about myself because Antiope Jones Is That Bitch.
That's what the problem had been the whole time. I wasn't worried about how other people would perceive me; I had been struggling with how I perceived myself.
Thanks, Aabria.
#representation matters#especially absolutely batshit and (hopefully) unintentional representation because bitch what the fuck#antiope jones#aabria iyengar#dimension 20 the seven#dimension 20#WARNING: Religious trauma/parental neglect/trauma-induced mental illness beyond this point!#no I'm serious I wasn't joking about the whole identifying with getting kidnapped and imprisoned by fundamentalists thing#shit's fucked; you have been warned#ok so I didn't get kidnapped but I did spend my entire childhood cloistered against my will by my fundamentalist parents#I was home-schooled from grades K-8 and then went to Christian online school from grades 9-11#homeschooling isn't neglectful but my neglectful parents wouldn't have been able to isolate me without it#by grade 11 my mental health had deteriorated so much that I spent most of my time in bed dissociating and stopped doing any schoolwork#my parents correctly assumed the isolation was finally getting to me and enrolled me in a local private Christian school for grade 12#it should have taken me more than a year to complete all my grade 12 classes + a handful of incomplete grade 11 classes & a grade 10 class#but as it turns out I am in fact also That Bitch and did it all in one academic year#I still genuinely thought I was lazy until quarantine showed me that EVERYONE gets fucked up after years of social isolation (wild huh)#Tags! Made this for the Solarpunk Aesthetic Week server in a sudden creative fever, so I guess I'll post it here too hh
A relative of mine knows someone who teaches kids, so I'm gonna suggest this as an art project for them! The idea is that students could each make/decorate their own shelf, then put them together to form a hive, which could function as mini lockers in their classrooms. Then, by the end of the school year or something, they could either take their own little shelf home (or exchange them with their peers?), or recycle them into materials for the next class! Hopefully it'll teach them about pollinators too 🐝
Idk how doable this project is really, and its scary to imagine one of my silly designs could actually become something tangible irl. But even so, I'm still excited to try (And if anyone else attempts this too, please let me know!!!)

Honestly I feel for Sam but serves him right.
Even if we ignore the potential intermingling of the web or any other other spooky strings that are likely being pulled, there's a lot to unpack here.
I wouldn't say Sam "deserved" it, but Alice tried warning him for months. This is what he gets for sticking his nose in places it didn't belong.
Did I say the same thing about Jon in TMA? Yes and no. Obviously there isn't a story without someone doing something dumb, but I think Jon's situation and Sam's situation are a little different. Jon was an idiot, yes, but he (and everyone else around him) were forced to go in completely blind. He had no idea what he was doing and didn't have any warnings or help at all except from his creepy boss with ulterior motives.
Sam also went in blind, but he was warned several times by several people including the eldritch computer to stop and turn around. He could have avoided this if he just returned Alice's calls or looked at her messages.
But nooooo he had to poke around with his little crushy crush and get himself thrown into a portal to what we can only assume is the TMA universe. Serves him right.

last line challenge
rules: in a new post, show the last line you wrote (or drew) and tag as many people as there are words (or as many as you feel like). okay so I got tagged by the very lovely @babygirlbridger like a couple of weeks ago already (thank you!!!) but I was so busy with choir things etc. I didn't have time to process it, but now here I am! I usually don't like to post any WIPs or even reference anything I might be drawing or planning to draw because I legitimately don't ever know if I'm gonna finish what I start but skfjdsl oh what the hell, let's do it
Tumblr media
you'll never guess who this tiny boi is
Tumblr media
also I'm struggling with Cody's face in the middle panel, so he has a placeholder one :D don't judge me also everyone has probably been tagged a million times already (and I've been absent from tumblr as well so I've missed everything :') ) so no pressure tags @smoosey, @dontbelasagnax, @meebles, @insertmeaningfulusername, @lttrsfrmlnrrgby

Ming is still waiting for Joe. Ming is still waiting for Joe 2 years after his death disappearance. Ming finally realized too late that he loves Joe more than anything and is dedicated to waiting for him so he can make it up to him. It’s heartbreaking, not just from the perspective of the fact that Ming is the lover left behind but also the fact that he knows he is the cause of it. He knows he destroyed Joe’s life in his desperate attempt not to lose the only thing in his life that truly made him happy.
He still waits up for him, leaves the lights on, cooks dinner for him and waits to be able to greet him when he comes home. So many others have accepted that Joe is likely dead and if he isn’t, that he isn’t coming back but not Ming. Ming was excited at the smallest of sounds, at the idea that it might mean that Joe has returned to him.
He has gone from being unable to accept that Tong does not like him and is a bad influence on him, to being unable to accept that Joe is gone and is never coming back.
It makes the fact that he is about to repeat the cycle both interesting and completely heartbreaking. Ming wants to make it up to Joe but never got the chance. Ming has grown stagnant and unchanging because of it. He hasn’t learned to let go and will continue to cling to anything that reminds him of Joe. He will see Joe attempt to reclaim what little bits of his old life that he can (his friends, his co workers, his job) and start anew even if no one ever knows it’s him and Ming will force himself along for the ride.
And Joe will let him, because no matter what has happened between them, Joe still loves Ming. He still loves Ming more than anything else in the world. So he will let Ming repeat the cycle, even as he tries to resist because in the end, there is a large part of him that would rather be a stand in for who he used to be rather than lose Ming completely.
One day though, Ming is going to realize that this new Joe is actually his Joe. That his Joe has come home to him, albeit different than when he left. Ming will finally get the opportunity to welcome him home the way he wants too. He will finally have the opportunity to learn in a way he has been putting off and pushing back because if Joe is not around to see him change, is that change worth it?
Yes it is, but Ming is so focused on getting Joe back, on getting noticed by Joe. Everything he has done for the last two years has been in a effort to make Joe notice him again. To convince Joe in one way or another to come home.
Now Joe is home and it will be up to Ming to prove himself, to finally learn and to leave his toxic behaviour in the past. Hopefully he can do that before he loses this Joe forever.

Regina lies back in her own bed. “I regret to inform you that I appear to still be alive,” she says dryly. Emma doesn’t laugh. “How’s your breathing?” “It’s…” Fine, she wants to say, but she hates to lie to Emma, to conceal anything more from her than the explosive truth that is rooted in her lungs. Emma wouldn’t believe her, anyway. “It’s manageable,” she says instead. “I don’t think I’ll be dying tonight.” “Don’t you dare,” Emma growls, and there are times when Emma says something in that protective way, with those shining eyes and that note of ferocity in her voice, and Regina really can breathe for a moment. The flowers seem to part, and Regina wonders for a moment if she truly is hopeless, or if there is a minuscule chance that Emma Swan might someday love her back. It’s impossible. Emma is the shining savior, a woman who is so strong and good that she stands above everyone else in this wretched town. Emma is beautiful and powerful and beloved, and she would never be so corrupted to fall for an evil queen in the throes of defeat. For a woman so pathetically in love that she is dying from it, a humiliation that she is only glad that she has managed to keep from the rest of Storybrooke. No one will mourn her, except for Henry. And Emma protects her because Emma loves Henry in that all-encompassing way that Regina does, too. Henry’s life has been hard enough without watching his mother die, and Emma recognizes that.  That’s all this is.

Day 1 | Fire
G/T July Prompt List
Part 1 | Next
Surviving was only the beginning. To live in harmony with the planet's habitants, it takes time and trust. Something that is all too hard to come by.
Spoilers: For the game Subnautica
Content Warnings: Mentions of death and violence. Mentions of drowning and suffocation. Near death encounter.
_______________________
As the final phasegate activates, James Stiller finds himself staring at the mesmerizing swirl of green colors granting him instantaneous travel across hundreds of meters, suddenly struck by what the familiar sight before him represents.
When he had felt the first wave of turbulence consistent with a ship entering a planet’s atmosphere what seems to be a lifetime ago, he never thought it would lead to where he is now. To not only surviving on a completely submerged planet with little to no knowledge and absolutely no resources to begin with, but battling against a disease that infected him the moment he escaped from his damaged lifepod. Becoming the only person capable of curing an entire planet on the brink of extinction.
And he has. Will not only heal himself, but heal every living organism. End a century long quarantine that, as well meaning as the enforcement was, ensured there would be no one to help combat the disease or leave any survivors if someone immune wanted to leave the planet.
But just because he is so close to his goal does not mean there aren’t still obstacles. Not only is the planet itself hostile, the creatures are just as deadly to match it, and he’s not alone anymore.
At the reminder at the honorable though challenging responsibility of protecting the very last leviathan of their kind, the true savior of the planet and curing the deadly disease its plagued with, James feels himself tense as he begins to think about what could be waiting on the other side of the phasegate.
A full grown leviathan might be prowling. A stalker or bone shark could as well. There is guaranteed going to be a warper in the area, and though it may not target a newly hatched sea emperor, any attempt to kill someone completely infected could indirectly be aimed toward the very person needed to cure them.
How is he going to protect Caleb? He has a prawn suit and submarine, but those aren’t able to keep another leviathan away if its sights are set on vulnerable and easy prey. Something both of them are, meaning it will be extra enticing to attack them if they’re spotted, and any vessel James can fabricate won’t be impervious to damage.
And that’s speaking strictly about logistics. How are they supposed to communicate so Caleb knows not to go too far away from James? How will he know what a sea emperor needs to survive and thrive? The newly hatched leviathan has telepathic abilities, but it seems to be extremely limited, unlike his mother who can speak with him hundreds of meters below the surface while he’s exploring a mountain well above sea level.
Coming to the realization that despite his limbs growing heavier by the minute as pain pulses throughout his entire body in time with his heartbeat, he will need to put a pause on ending the quarantine and getting a cure created as soon as possible. Because what is most important is keeping Caleb safe, and there is no safer place than inside the tank they are in now.
Nodding to try and keep his thoughts on track, James turns toward the waiting sea emperor, only to jolt as something darts past him almost too quickly to recognize what it was.
Almost. To his horror, he watches as Caleb swims directly through the phasegate, disappearing completely from sight.
“Caleb!” James calls as he quickly grabs his seaglide to follow after the very person he swore to keep safe and yet managed to lose not even five minutes later.
Don’t be afraid, James. He knows more than you realize.
Even with the comforting tone and the reassurance that even though her son is completely alone without the person she entrusted with his safety, the sea emperor doesn’t fear for the worse, James’ heart pounds as he frantically cases after Caleb. Desperately searches for any sign of the young sea emperor the moment he emerges from where the phasegate leads to. Feels what little blood is left drain from his face when he sees their destination is right outside the quarantine facility, the island and its surrounding waters infested by reaper leviathans and warpers.
With a lump in his throat impossible to swallow, the tight feeling of terror wrapped around his chest and making it hard to breathe loosens a little when he finally spots Caleb swimming in quick zigzags and figure eights through the water. After a breathless moment of fearing the young sea emperor is currently being chased, the look of pure joy is unmistakable despite it coming from someone who isn’t human, meaning Caleb is simply enjoying himself. Happy to be out in open water where no walls close him in. Excited to explore and learn about the world he only just woke up to.
James hesitates, torn between needing to ensure the sea emperor won’t be spotted by something vicious that would attack without hesitation, and wanting Caleb clearly enjoying himself to continue being carefree just a little longer, preferably forever.
In the end it’s decided for him, a roar sounding much too close for comfort erupting from seemingly nowhere. James has long since known that if it originates from a reaper leviathan, then they’ve already been spotted whether or not it’s visible to them, meaning he wastes no time in turning toward the nearest escape.
Except as he turns to the phasegate, he finds the green swirls have disappeared, returning to the only place on this entire planet where nothing wants to harm them impossible.
As terror and betrayal begin to snake its way around him, James quickly shakes his head, needing to stay focused on the problem at hand. Turning to find another place to hide, his eyes land on the island several meters away. A distance that will lose them precious seconds, but it’s the best he can do without a prawn suit or submarine.
Turning on his seaglide, James looks over his shoulder to call for Caleb and hope the sea emperor can understand what he wants. As it turns out, he didn’t need to worry as Caleb darts to his side, staying directly beside him as they quickly swim toward safety. That’s one thing off his chest to know his charge will immediately come to him when danger is around.
Another roar even closer than before reveals it might be all for nought. Weaponless and unfamiliar with where the underwater cave entrance sits, there isn’t anything can do against a leviathan no matter what species it is. It would be pure luck they manage to swim faster than something ten times their size and built for the water.
There might be a way to distract it. Reaper leviathans usually get confused it he turns off whatever vessel or equipment he’s using, making it harder for them to locate him. Ghost leviathans can be thourted if they’re too close to a large object, usually opting to damage it before coming back around for a second attack. Sea dragon leviathans are harder to avoid, but they’re not in the lava lakes, and he has yet to see one outside their natural habitat.
Unsure which would be best case scenario, James tightens his grip on the handles of his seaglide. Ignores how much he’s sweating and how his hands feel like they’re on fire before chancing a look over his shoulder.
Rather than being greeted with bone crushing mandibles, an unhinged jaw, or a fire ball, James finds himself staring in confusion at something that looks almost human. And yet it’s the size of a leviathan with the body of warper.
Oh no.
The eerie resemblance to a human aside, James finds himself desperately trying to make his seaglide go any faster, knowing just how ruthless warpers are in pursuing those who are infected, and he’s at the final stage.
There’s another roar, but instead of causing the water to ripple from proximity considering the leviathan is terrifyingly close, James doesn’t feel any disturbance. In fact, it sounds like it’s coming from further away, meaning there are multiple leviathans.
Just as he’s struck with the horrifying realization, a hand suddenly grabs his arm before he’s being yanked down, his tight grip on his seaglide forcing it to continue forward even from the harsh movement. He doesn’t tell Caleb to be more careful, only allows the sea emperor to lead them further away from the surface.
It’s when the opening of a cave is finally spotted only a few more meters away does James start to wonder what kind of instincts leviathans are born with, how much knowledge they automatically have, or if sea emperors have other abilities in tandem with telepathy. But that’s not something he should be thinking about now. Now it is imperative they reach the underwater cave before something catches with them first.
Unfortunately, the warper wins. Not in a true sense where they are physically caught, but they might as well be. James should have remembered about the ability to send a beam of energy capable of teleporting whatever gets caught in the crossfire.
One moment, they’re within reach of the cave. The next, James is staring directly down at the warper they were swimming from, the massive form turning before swimming up from below, pure black eyes locked onto them.
No, him. He was the only one who get teleported, Caleb’s absolutely minuscule form still down near the cave.
“Caleb go!” James yells as he turns toward the surface. “Go to the cave, I’ll meet you there!”
His heart palpitates every time he looks back down to see if his words were understood and the sea emperor is getting himself to safety, forced to watch as the warper with a death stare gets closer and closer. But he doesn’t see a little speck swimming its way up to him, so he focuses on getting to the beach. If he’s out of the water, then it won’t be able to teleport or grab him.
Either it understood exactly what he was planning, or he just has bad luck, but there’s a sickening lurch before he’s staring at open water with the island nowhere in sight. To his right, the warper has turned again to chase him. To his left, a ghost leviathan an unnatural color purple is swimming directly toward him.
Down.
James doesn’t hesitate. Pointing his seaglide, he swims directly down, not paying attention to where the leviathans chasing him are. He’s running out of battery, out of air, and his entire body is shaking. But as long as they’re chasing him, then they aren’t chasing Caleb and the sea emperor will be safe until they leave.
Hopefully the next ship that crashes will have at least one survivor who finds a full grown sea emperor and a thriving planet without any signs of infection.
Suddenly, something is wrapping around him, and it takes James a moment to realize that rather than a hand with fingers longer than he is tall, he’s being hugged by Caleb.
No.
He tries to push the kid away, tries to say run, leave him. He’s sorry he failed but he doesn’t need to be the one to survive, Caleb does.
But his limbs refuse to cooperate, stiff hands no longer holding onto the seaglide as they slowly sink deeper and deeper, though not faster than the two leviathans swimming toward them.
No.
The ghost leviathan seems to stop for a moment, seemingly hovering above James as he stares at the sunlight reflecting off the waves getting further and further away. But then it roars, and at a speed he didn’t know was possible, launches itself toward them.
He misses the way the warper’s eyes suddenly shrink to reveal blue irises. Misses how it sputters before it lunges toward the charging ghost leviathan with the intent to stop it. Misses how the sea emperor refusing to leave his side begins to chirp frantically. Misses how a shadow falls over all of them before a third leviathan joins the fray.
He doesn’t miss the fire ball that forces the ghost and warper to swim away.
That’s when Caleb gently bumps their foreheads together as a desperate wave of comfort floods through him.
It’s going to be okay.
James falls unconscious right as his HUD flashes a 30 second warning for air.

A bad spy is still a spy (?)
Tumblr media
For @tamlinweek day 6! Here is chapter 6 and the final chapter of Memoriam! I am absolutely overjoyed with the fact I stuck through with it and finished it as I usually give up on multi chaptered fanfics! I am doing a little happy dance over this!
ALSO HOW IS IT ALREADY DAY 6!!! CRI ONE MORE DAY AND IT WILL BE OVER, I feel like I will go into Tamlin week withdrawal afterwards.
Hope you like this final chapter and once again it is unedited so please excuse any mistakes!
Read on AO3
Snippet below
Tumblr media
First stop was the Autumn court, he had since been unbanished once Eris took over as high lord. The two brothers had worked hard on rebuilding their relationship. Tamlin hid behind a thick spruce tree, remaining out of sight or so he thought, until a wet thing touched his hand and he nearly screamed in fright, so focused on being a so called spy. It was one of Eris’ shadow pups and he put a finger up to his mouth hoping the dog would not alert their master of his presence.
They did alert their master. Lucien had continued his journey by the time Eris stopped him from going further.
“What are you doing?” Eris’ arms were crossed and expecting eyebrow raised as he stared the high lord down with his sharp eyes.
‘The most important rule in spying is to never let anyone know you are in fact a spy.’
The line bounced in his head as he thought hard for an excuse that would get the Autumn lord off his damn back before he lost Lucien in the vast forest.
“Just taking in the sights!” He responded enthusiastically (far too enthusiastically), clasping his hands behind his back, making sure to look up, right, left and down, all around. When he looked at Eris, the male wore an expression of doubt before he waved him off, winnowing away.
