found you on pinterest again!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
they have a tumblr in their bio too
Yeah! I actually finally found the Dino one on Pinterest a while ago, I was gonna update you, but decided against it.
I also found their tumblr bc they responded to my post with your original ask a while ago! I believe it was @miaisagirllover.
In conclusion, thank you to this random tumblr/Pinterest user for helping me break the barrier between worlds (and crediting me while doing so <3). (And @chaoticbyler for being my informant- couldn’t have done it without you)
Finally the Pinterest mystery saga is complete

i always get a little sad when people tell me they like scollace from just my fan art and haven't checked out any of the source material because like nothing i make is going to ever fully represent their dynamic and the joy of shipping to me is really engaging with the canon material and going crazy over breaking down the crumbs of content. and it's a nice comic series! even just watching the anime you're missing out on a lot without context from the comics.
so i guess for the record for anyone who's interested but don't know where to start, /especially/ if you're just here for roommate yaoi. start with the comics. it's the most "scollace-heavy" and it's only 6 books. starting with the anime would probably leave you really confused on why anyone ships them (or what's going on if this is your first exposure to scott pilgrim media) the movie is a fine entrance piece also, imho. like it lets you in on the dynamics between each character and the general plot (even though the characterization is pretty boiled down, but hey a lot of shots are 1:1 to the comics so that's fun.) but yeah. don't let my silly gay drawings dictate your shipping takes. read the books yourself! they're fun and if you're a fresh adult that still feels perma-14 you'll probably find it fun too.
also they're stupidly domestic all the time

Silly and probably very obscure thing but I just wanted to mention because it's so wonderful to me :) [with additional overanalysis because I'm incapable of liking something a normal amount]
Tumblr media
This is, without question (or context lmao), my FAVORITE panel of any of your comics (The scene as a whole is among my favorites too). It conveys the moment and the feeling and the context really well, and to top it all off he looks kinda silly :3
He's tired. Exhausted. Hurting. Frustrated. In this moment Sherlock is more vulnerable than he usually allows himself to be.
He has put his entire trust into John. He almost looks half-asleep, dazed, and leaning into the hands holding him. He has resigned all sense of instruction and control, and offered it solely to John. It's a sweet and incredibly gentle moment, conveyed almost entirely without words, expressed through gesture and poses alone.
Beautifully done, I love this silly man and everything you do with him :]
(Also I hope you have a great day, hope Baby is doing well too 💜💜💜)
Thank you so much! You encapsulated exactly how I felt when my mom had to bathe me when I got home from the hospital. Weird thing to realize how much she loved me in that moment, at my weakest. And my now husband coming to entertain me when I was laid up. I felt so tired and beaten down, but so loved. So I'm happy that feeling came through!
(Baby Secret is doing good! She is a TINY thing! 1st percentile baby, but healthy as ever! I hope she has that ah ha moment in her life--how much I love her when I'm taking care of her. <3)

If it isn't taken, could you do Gojo and berry picking (hope I remembered that right!) I just know he loves berries with that sweet tooth of his!
Also this was my first ask/request so apologies if I did it wrong! 😊
Strawberry Fields
Summary: Marie’s Summer Fest prompt: Berry Picking
Pairing: Escort!Gojo Satoru x AFAB!Reader
Warnings: language pure sweet fluff!
Word Count: 2,254
A/N: hi sweetie!! Thank you so much for your request! I'm happy you found my blood and so glad to have you here! The way you requested was perfect! OMG escort!gojo returns in a sweet drabble! I was struggling with this prompt when it hit me today! I legit cried writing this and now all I want is to eat berries! 😩🍓 (read My Wedding Date is an Escort for context!)
Tumblr media
“Whoa!” you exclaimed excitedly as your boyfriend opened his car door for you. “A berry farm?!”
The excitement in your eyes was well worth the forty-minute drive! Satoru put on his sunglasses before handing you your own. “My pretty girlfriend wanted to make a strawberry shortcake for our anniversary. I wanted you to have the best of selections.”
It was hard to believe it had been a year since you hired Gojo to be your wedding date. I’m being known as to you you would fall in love with the former escort. Both of you fell fast and hard. And despite the quick pace of your relationship, it had been the best one you had ever been in. Satoru had to help you find your confidence and, in a sense, brought you back to life after your bad breakup with Toji. You had gone from not needing to be with anyone to not being able to imagine your life without Satoru.
He was your other half, and you were so happy with him.
“Of course, I want to make it, but we could’ve just gone. Gojo’s face looked almost disgusted. As if you had insulted him personally, his jaw dropped, and his eyes widened behind dark blue round glasses. It was practically comical.
“After a year of us being together, one would assume you would know how to expect the best of the best. I will go above and beyond for you, sweetheart, no matter what it’s about.”
“You’re so silly, but I love you regardless,” you press your lips against his cheek. “Thank you for doing this. I'm so sorry if I insulted you,” you tease as he puffs out his cheeks.
“Yeah, you should be sorry!” he interlaced your fingers with his own, rolling his eyes overdramatically. “Store-bought berries, my ass.”
The field Satoru had brought you to was the best of the best. You knew the best bakeries purchased different berries from this farm specifically. From what you had heard, the berries were as sweet as candy and amazing to cook with. And Satoru had given you the chance to cook firsthand!! Your chest and stomach buzzed excitedly as your boyfriend grabbed a woven basket from one of the attendants before heading further down the dirt trail toward the rows of berry bushes.
The strawberries were bright, ruby red, contrasting against the green leaves. They varied in different shapes and sizes, but each had your mouth watering as you melted down on the ground, examining each berry and trying to pick the best ones for your dessert. Watching you examine produce was something Gojo had fallen in love with the last year. It was so simple and mundane, but he loved how you were intrigued by different fruits and vegetables. Your eyes roam over them, searching for any signs of bruising or rot. You were a pro.
At first, watching you go through the different apples and cucumbers at the store was more interesting. He honestly didn’t know why you did what you did. Growing up, he was a rich kid, so he never had a chance to go grocery shopping with his parents. Food was usually provided at his estate, and he never really got to watch anyone cooking until he met you. You were so talented in the kitchen, and your passion for baking made him fall even more in love with you.
He couldn't wait to marry you.
“Find any good ones?” He asked, crouching beside you as you cut some plump red berries off the vines.
“Yeah!”
Satoru watched you closely as you rubbed the berry off your shirt before placing it in his hand. “What's this?” he questioned cocking a pristine, white brow at you.
“A taste test!” without any other words, Satoru watched as you took a big bite of your berry, humming the taste.
Satoru usually liked his strawberries in different forms. Ice cream, covered in whipped cream, dipped in chocolate, or cake form. But from seeing how your cheeks slightly flushed at the taste that flooded your mouth. He decided to give his berry a shot. Gojo bit into the plump., his eyes going wide behind his sunglasses as he chewed the sugary sweetness and his mouth.
“Mmm!”
“It’s good, right?! It tastes just like candy.”
“Mhmm!” Satoru took another bite of his berry, swallowing the sweet, tangy fruit. It’s so good! I can see why people say these are the best strawberries in town!”
You grinned back at your boyfriend, heading further down the row of bushes, cutting and picking the best strawberries you could find, dropping them into the basket your boyfriend held for you. Your mind was reeling with different recipes you could make with all the berries you were collecting: strawberry shortcakes, crêpes, and parfaits. Hell, Satoru had just bought you an ice cream maker so you could try making some ice cream! The possibilities were endless.
You had gone down two rows of berry bushes, picking out the best ones. It wasn’t until you reached the other end of the second row that you turned to look into the basket to admire the collection you had been picking. Only when you looked in the basket were the berries gone.
Where did your berries go?! Snatching the basket out of your boyfriend’s hands, you flipped it over, searching for any hole or malfunction that might have caused your berries to be missing. When you noticed no hole in the basket, you quickly turned around, looking over your shoulder at the ground, searching for any berries that might have fallen out. Only there was nothing but your footprints and other patrons lining the rows.
“That’s so weird! Toru, did you notice if I’ve been missing the basket? I know I had to put about fifteen strawberries in there.” You sat on your knees, scratching your head before sighing. “Or maybe it's the summer heat gett—” When you looked up at your boyfriend, you found the answer to your question.
Satoru hadn’t even realized what he was doing until he saw the look on your face. When you picked the berries and dropped them into the basket, he reached for them, admiring their beauty. But when he picked them up, it reminded him of the sugary taste that had accompanied the strawberry you had given him. So, before he knew it, the berries you were dropping in the basket soon found their way into his mouth.
When you sit back on the heels of your feet, looking at your boyfriend crouched next to you, you catch him red-handed, or in this case, red-lipped. He was happily munching on one of the strawberries between his teeth, and the green stem stuck out of his mouth as he nibbled the sweet fruit. Red began to stay in the outside corners of his mouth as he spit the stem of the strawberry out. Both of you have sat there across from each other. Your boyfriend’s mouth was smeared with red remains of strawberry juice, and the basket between you was still empty, like when you started ten minutes prior.
“Toru—”
“What?”
“You’re eating all our berries.”
“Oh,” He hummed before plucking a berry off one of the bushes, wiping it off on his shirt before pushing the end of the fruit against your bottom lip. “Sorry, I should’ve offered, here’s one!”
Without arguing, you took the berry between your teeth, biting down on it. The sugary taste rolled over your tongue, leaving you sinking back into the dirt, humming happily at the taste. It was so decadent, leaving you wanting more, that it was easy to see how your boyfriend had managed to eat the basket you were slowly filling up.
“Shit, these are so good.”
“Yeah, they are! Super good!”
You snapped out of the trance the siren, like berries, had you under. “But! These are for our dessert tonight, remember? We can’t eat all the berries we pick. I need some to make our strawberry shortcake.” Satoru nodded in understanding while he picked another berry off the bush and popped it in his mouth.
“Right, of course, the dessert!”
“Toru!” you giggle at his antics. “Stop eating them all, baby.”
You had to give it to your loving boyfriend. He did give it his all, trying to resist temptation and eat all the berries you dropped into your basket. But by some miracle, he did not eat them all; a few went missing when your back was turned. But you were luckily able to fill up your entire basket with strawberries. You have wanted to go through the raspberry in the blueberry rows next, but the thought of your boyfriend stuffing himself full of berries before dinner had you just reaching for the prepackaged one the farm sold.
With your berries in hand, you and Satoru return to the car as the sun sets. You were about to reach for the door handle when you noticed your boyfriend had stopped. He was standing a few feet away from the car with sunglasses, pushing his bangs out of his face as his cerulean eyes twinkled in the fiery hue of the setting. There’s a look in his eyes that you can’t quite read as he turns to face you, jabbing his fun towards the setting sun with a broad, dazzling grin.
“What do you say we stay here and watch the Sunset before heading home?”
“I like the sound of that.”
Satoru worked quickly, grabbing the blanket he kept in his car and unfolding it on the grass. As you leaned back, you both plopped onto the fuzzy dark blue blanket with your basket of berries between you, watching the thunderheads form in the distance, a kaleidoscope of pinks, oranges, and lilacs. The sky was vibrant, a beautiful evening for your one-year anniversary with the man who had changed your life for the best.
You sighed contently, popping a strawberry in your mouth before you leaned into your boyfriend, resting your head on his shoulder as he ate one of the strawberries himself. Satoru’s arms sneaked around your waist, holding you close to his side as he fed you another strawberry, his eyes on the horizon. The day had been perfect—a fantastic first anniversary. Life didn’t get much better than this.
“Sweetheart.”
You peered up at Satoru, smiling shyly. “Yeah, Toru?” The white-haired man popped another strawberry into his mouth, chewing down on it as his eyes left the setting sun to focus solely on you.
“I love you. Happy anniversary.”
“I love you too Toru, happy anniversary baby.” You reached the basket before you, finding most of the berries gone. “Oh my god,” you laughed out loud. Did we seriously eat all of the berries!?”
With a glance into the basket, you watched your boyfriend grimace at the sight of the missing berries. “Oh shit, I guess we did.” He pulled the basket onto his lap, digging through it as if looking this way would help him find other berries at the bottom.
“Looks like we still need to stop at the store to pick up some berries so I can make strawberry shortcakes to celebrate our anniversary.”
“Oh wait! I think this one is going to be perfect.”
“Toru, I can't make strawberry shortcake with just one bar—” the rest of the words leave you as you turn your attention towards your boyfriend, who isn’t holding a bar in his hand but a navy blue box in the palm of his hand. You gasp, watching as he turns and places himself down on one knee. “O-Oh, my god! Oh my god!”
“Baby, I love you so much. This last year has been the greatest year of my entire life, I love you so damn much, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” Your boyfriend opened the box with shaky hands, revealing a gorgeous engagement ring that twinkled in the setting sun's light. “I want more days like this. Picking berries with you out in the countryside, watching you pick vegetables out at the store, and just being with you is all I want. I promise to take care of you for as long as I live. You’ll never have to want anything in your life. Will you marry me?”
The tears streamed down your cheeks as you sniffled and nodded your head, holding your left hand out to him. “Yes! Oh my god, yes!” Satoru fuck the urge to fist pump; instead, he very calmly put the engagement ring on your finger. “Oh my god! Toru, it's so pretty!” you squealed, throwing yourself on top of Gojo, smothering him with kisses as you pulled your hand back to look lovingly at your ring.
Gojo, they’re on the blanket, hands running down your back as he focuses his attention not on the fields of bright, multicolored berries or the vibrant setting sun. His attention is focused on the most beautiful thing in the entire universe: you, his former client, best friend, and future wife, who is his everlasting summer day.

Round 4: Mabel Pines (Gravity Falls) vs. Amane Momose (MILGRAM)
Tumblr media
Propaganda below the cut
Mabel Pines (12):
I literally saw a tiktok today about how Mabel is a bad person. She’s 12! Like yes, she has made some mistakes and bad choices, but so has everyone else. And I never see any of the other characters in the show criticized the way she is. Everyone in the show has made mistakes (Grunkle Stan commits crimes practically every episode ffs) but because Mabel is a 12 year old girl and acts like it, she gets the most hate. Mabel deserves to be loved 🩷
----
girl gets so much flack for being... immature and kind of selfish at age 12? like she had whole video essays made on why she is a horrible person who deserves punishment. god forbid girls be silly
----
!!! Spoilers for Gravity Falls last 5 episodes !!!
This has gone down a lot but when the Weirdmaggedon arc was happening, the finale of the series, a big part of the fandom started hating Mabel because she accidentally caused the Weirdmaggedon (basically an apocalypse + bizarre shit like the water tower becoming an eight-legged monster with a giant mouth).
For context, in the episode that starts this arc, "Dipper and Mabel vs The Future", Mabel is really excited to the end of their summer vacation at Grunkle Stan's house, since it will be her and Dipper's 13th birthday and they will enter high school (her idea of high school of course coming from teen movies). But then this whole idea starts to shatter when Wendy tells her that high school isn't like a Disney musical, but it's okay, she will get through this since she will be with Dipper, her twin brother...
Except, that Dipper receives an invitation by Grunkle Stan's scientist brother Ford to become his apprentice after summer ends, staying in Gravity Falls, without Mabel. When she discovers it, she gets really mad at him and in a fit of rage, she accidentally picks Dipper's bag instead of hers and runs off to the woods.
When she gets there, Blendin, a time-travelling friend of theirs finds her and tells her that he has a way of making her brother stay with her, and make the summer take a little more to end, and that he just needed a little thing that Dipper has in his bag. That thing is a dimensional rift that Dipper and Ford contained to not cause the Weirdmaggedon, but Mabel didn't knew about that and gives it to Blendin. Blendin then breaks it and it's revealed that Bill Cipher was controlling Blendin to get the rift and release the Weirdmaggedon. He then traps Mabel in a bubble, starting the final arc of the series.
So, a few episodes later, that bubble she's in is revealed to be a world of fantasy that she controls, and that she didn't want to leave that world, as she was scared of growing up etc.
Context given, A LOT OF PEOPLE HATED HER FOR THIS. Suddenly people started seeing Mabel as just a selfish girl who wanted things only her way, when she was only a 12-year-old scared of growing up without her twin brother (they do end up going back together at the end but still).
The worst part is that apparently the people behind it took note of this, and on the comics that where released after the finale, she is a selfish spoiled brat. I haven't read the comics though so I'm going off what some people said about it.
Amane Momose (12):
Amane was voted guilty in the first trial so that she would acknowledge her guilt. It backfired, and now she’s considered a threat. Well, everyone is a threat, but nobody’s threat level has been as heavily discussed and debated as hers. Consider the next prisoner in line, Mikoto. He’s objectively more dangerous and cannot be restrained. He beat up the guard in trial 1, and he was able to hold his own when the other guilty prisoners were attacked. But a good incentive to forgive him is so that he will calm down. You know what? That’s a good incentive to forgive Amane too! But she *can* be restrained, so a good portion of the discussion went into how she should be voted guilty so she *will* be restrained and not a threat. Since her vote was a near 50/50, of course a good chunk of the voters expressed dissatisfaction with her forgiven verdict. Some are already planning to vote her guilty for trial 3, calling her a “lost cause”. She hasn’t even done any concrete harm yet. Hold the pitchforks until she actually causes harm, please? And what if she *was* voted guilty in trial 2? We’ve been warned that she will continue to deny our judgement. A second guilty verdict won’t make her better either, and then what? She’d be called a “lost cause” as well. There is no winning with her.
----
Where do I even start? So first of all she’s an cult child who was physically and mentally abused and tortured by her parents and then (presumably) murdered her mother after her mother killed a cat that she took care of.
Now everyone in Milgram is a murderer but when Amane came and her MV showed her murder and circumstance in an admittedly highly fictionalized depiction of it the audience decided to…repeat the cycle of abuse!
She was voted guilty for the main reason of “teaching her” and helping her “realize that she was abused.” I would like to note that this tough love approach is something her parents utilized against her. “We are only doing this to help you.”
So the audience replicates Amane’s abusers and repeats the cycle of abuse and that’s pretty shitty but it isn’t exactly “Fuck Em Kids” level.
And then Trial 2 happened. Cause Amane is bitter and angry and horrifically traumatized so she acts aggressive and hostile. Especially towards another prisoner.
Now, again, everyone here is a fucking murderer (of atleast could be constructed as one) These people being able to Harm is a core concept of this series.
Yet for some reason it feels like people treat Amane as a “delusional creepy kid who wants to kill people” which completly takes away the nuance of her character. She does have the capacity to harm! Everyone here does! She’s not Uniquly Dangerous! She just has a Reason to be Dangerous. A Reason we GAVE HER by REPEATING THE CYCLE OF ABUSE.
In short: In a series full of Murderers I’m honestly a bit pissed that the 12 year old abuse victim is the one who’s treated like the guy from American Pyscho.
----
TL;DR: "We metavoted this abused, indoctrinated child guilty in trial 1, but it didn't work. Now she is a threat to three grown adults: one who is fully free and two whom she has been shown to get along with. Please metavote her guilty again so she will be restrained and unable to attack them, even though that means subjecting her to further psychological torture." Amane Momose is the youngest of ten murderers, prisoners of Milgram who are to be judged innocent (forgiven) or guilty (unforgiven). In the first interrogation (voice drama), she said that what she did was in line with her religion's doctrines. If we judged her the "wrong way", she said she will just deny the verdict. Combining the voice drama and music video, you could piece together that she was raised in a cult and abused, even though she is cheerful and downplays her pain. She never shows *who* she killed, only *why* she did. After the first day of her vote, she was 81% innocent, but this wouldn't last the whole three months. Many people voted her guilty so she would "see her sins", part of the practice commonly known as "metavoting". Her innocent percentage rapidly decreased, and she hit guilty in the last 15 days, finishing at 51% guilty. At the end of the first trial, Jackalope (who is something like a host) went over all the prisoners' verdicts and commented on the general reasoning. When he got to Amane, he *laughed* at the audience for voting that way to make her realize her sins. Trial 2 rolled around, and it was revealed that Amane's victim was her abuser. On day one, she was at 74% innocent. Seems like a cut-and-dry case now, right? Well... in the intermission, two of the prisoners (Fuuta and Mahiru) were badly beaten up and became reliant on the care of Shidou, a doctor. Amane became hostile to Shidou because what he was doing was against her beliefs. She visited all three of them on their birthdays to convince them to change their ways. She seems to be especially close to Fuuta, who is now murmuring about salvation. Guilty prisoners are psychologically tortured, forced to listen to voices that reject their beliefs. Fuuta and Mahiru both say that the mental strain is worse than their physical injuries. But Amane, who also looks worse for wear, was thrown under the bus because she isn't injured and is considered a physical threat to them (never mind that she gets along with them). She's considered a threat to Shidou, a grown man who is twice her size and fully free, while she is partially restricted by the long sleeves in her trial 2 uniform. She might indoctrinate Fuuta even though, in a prison of ten people and one guard, she's the only voice of her cult. Fortunately, she got a break. Her vote was falling at a similar rate to the first trial. But this time, it stabilized at 51% innocent, 12 days before the end of her vote. But there's no way this is over.

Happy 1st Anniversary RainCode!
☔️6🔎30👻
Thank you for bringing me so much joy 💜💕
(and thank you for giving me the gift that is yuma kokohead)
I didn’t think I’d make art for it at first, but I figured this game has done so much for me, so I’ll give back by drawing the duo that started it all 💜🩷 These two are such an iconic pair and I will draw them together as much as possible c: (tho Shinigami will be mostly in her ghost form if I do)
First time drawing human form Shinigami non-chibi, and I admit she was a little tricky with that outfit. But I think I did it decently enough… xD
Tumblr media
little bonus for the kokogami enjoyers 💕
miss death god is too much woman for this little boy to handle~ 🤭
i know he's an adult but can you honestly look at him without context and say this is a man??? he's just an eemey meemey little guy.
Personal Rambling below (because I love this game so much)
WARNING MINI ESSAY INCOMING (lmao)
Oh RainCode... Where do I even begin...
RainCode is a game that has changed my life along with likely many other people’s lives. Although the premise of it is fairly straightforward, the characters and atmosphere make this game so much more. The successor to Danganropa is honestly its own unique story and structure, and tbh I think I love and enjoy it far more than Danganronpa. But this game…is just so much more for me.
I truly never expected this game to be such an impact on my life, let alone become my next fixation.
So, for history, I was honestly in no real hurry to get the game on its release date last year, so I got it a day later. On July 1st, I played the game for the first time. And I didn’t think much of it at first. The only thing that was on my mind when I started this game, was that I was positive I was going to be treating the protagonist like Makoto Naegi and Kyoko Kirigiri’s son the whole time.
This was the first post I made about RainCode back on twitter in 2023.
Tumblr media
Yeah... Kinda silly when I look at it now... XD But I do still beleive this headcanon.
When I started the game my 2016 fixation of Danganronpa came back a bit. As a previous DR lover, I did make comparisons here and there to all of the characters. Yuma was very much like Naegi with his shy and timid demeanor at first due to having amnesia, and it felt like déjà vu when playing through the start of the game. But then it happened. The moment that solidified Yuma as my next and now permanent target. When he got sick/dizzy on the train... God that moment still lives rent free in my head. (I know the cause of it was different/related to the first mystery/case, but as someone who enjoys any sort of sick whump moment, regardless of if its little crumbs or a whole-ass meal it still counted for me) I was still shy and hid in the shadows with my silly little niche back then, but I told myself. Yep, once I finish this game, I’m writing a sickfic for this game and he’s the victim. (though what surprised me was that I wasn’t alone on that, 3 other people made sickfics with yuma before I did so that was a pleasant surprise xD)
As the game went on it shocked and impressed me in many different forms. I realized that this game isn’t the Danganronpa clone I thought it would be. Sure, it had a lot of similar elements and mirrored mini games like Hangman’s Gambit, Spot Selection, and of course the Conclusion Comic of the whole case, but the story the world and the mysteries were honestly different from the way DR structured them. And it pleased me when not many people from the main team had died. Most of the deaths were of side characters that had appeared in their respective chapters. Which honestly was a breath of fresh air for me, and I think that’s the real reason it’s separate from DR. It’s not as cruel and not as stressful. It’s a lot more chill, but the mysteries were still enough to get me excited and look forward to the next maze I would enter. The mystery labyrinths were probably my favorites elements of the game. They were just so much fun. And every single character was so likeable, (yes even some of the peacekeepers were fun aside of one or two that I absolutely despise. mostly yomi and guillame lol but I guess I kinda like yomi a bit more bc of the fandom)
And I grew to love Yuma EVEN more. He is honestly one of the best written protagonists I’ve seen in a long time. It’s hard to do timid protagonists right, but RainCode definitely nailed it with Yuma. He had his moments, but it wasn’t enough to be obnoxious. He also shined in more ways than one. And my god, so many relatable moments… (I have anxiety too xD) He was so charming and cute the whole time and even had his badass moments. This little guy is the whole package and I LOVE him for that. Truly a unique and fun main character that blows every DR protagonist out of the water.
(Yes, I said what I said.)
And the ending, GOOD LORD THE ENDING?? It was so well executed, and the ending twist villain was immediately my second favorite character after the protagonist. I could go on about how much I loved the ending but if I did, we’d be here all day and I don’t want to spoil the entire game…so… I’ll leave it at that.
When I finished the game, I was so satisfied. (Yes I love it more than DR, what are you gonna do about it?) It left me super happy and made me want to make some fan content for it. Though I was still very quiet on twitter and had a feeling since twitter is a more complicated platform, I couldn’t gush about the game too much due to fear of spoiling other people…and when one of your favorite characters is just the whole secret of the game’s core mystery, I couldn’t talk about it too much… >.>
So, then I did the unthinkable. I went back to tumblr… It’s a little embarrassing but this account is actually my old one I had from years ago. I was on tumblr more 2013 to 2017 before I abandoned the site when it no longer seemed fun and there were times that I’d rather forget... (let’s just say that I used to RP with my OCs and…one of my RP ex friends catfished me and it made me feel VERY uncomfortable. I wanted to forget it, so I ran away and never returned.) I was super nervous to come back and try to post again, so my first RC related post was about him being a naegiri child.
After that I began making more edits once I gained access to the sprites and full body arts. I made some Pokémon AU edits because those were always fun, and then I started making feverish edits of Yuma’s sprites. My first post ended up becoming a hit and I caught the attention of some people. They liked what I was doing so it gave me a bit of confidence to continue. I got even more attention, and it made my confidence go up even more.
And then I started trying to draw art again, something I gave up long ago. My first few arts were a little rocky at best, but so many people enjoyed it! One of my older arts ended up becoming pretty popular. Through this my few pieces of art, my many sprite edits, and my first fan fiction (Home Is Where The Heart Is) got me pretty well recognized in the Rain code community on here. So much so that I felt confident enough to give myself a title. The CEO of RainCode Whump or “Whumpcode” and all of this confidence made me decide to turn my blog into a fandom and sick whump blog. It became a full blown obsession that possessed my mind that I've become TOO passionate about. Never thought making these little guys suffer would bring me this much joy... XD
Over time, I’ve drawn more art and written more fics than I ever had for a fandom. Before I never ever made fandom art, and I would usually only write one sickfic per fixation. (my last ones being demon slayer and spy x family) But here I am, making more art pieces than I ever have before (hell even doing a MONTH ART CHALLENGE) and improving even! And having 7 fanfictions of RainCode, 6 with Yuma and one with Makoto. And those two became my prime targets and muses for my art. Drawing them is easier for me and they’re my favorites so it brings me such joy to draw them. I love MakoYuma so much. Maybe not so much romantically, but friendship and familial. They have such potential to be so much, and I adore them. Plus putting them in sicknarios and situations is fun (I think we can all agree on that haha)
I think I’m talking too much, so I will say one more thing. I never thought my fixation on this game would last this long. I was positive it would go away after just a few months at best. The game is great but nothing amazing to keep thinking about for too long for me. But I think the main reason I was able to keep my fixation on this game for almost a year (and ongoing) is because of the fandom. (specifically, the Tumblr fandom, but some people on twitter are cool too) I’m honestly so happy I returned to tumblr and was able to make a name for myself in this community. I have met so many talented artists and creators and even made some new friends (and even got a few apprentices to take under my wing) If it weren’t for everyone’s support, I don’t think I would have ever done this much and made it this far.
I’ve essentially made a platform for myself, and I didn’t think tumblr would be a place I’d check daily ever again. To think this silly little game…would change my life so much and make me happier than I’ve ever been in such a long time. I feel recognized and like I belong, I’m finally able to be loud and proud about my passions for sick whump and not worry too much about it, I’ve finally found my prime target and I have fun with him every time, I’ve gotten back into the arts of drawing and writing again and I think I’ve made some of my best work yet, and I’ve met so many wonderful people and even collaborated with them on some fun projects too! (Here's the most popular one and also the first one I did!)  It’s just been…so wonderful… I am so happy to be part of such a chill talented and fantastic community TwT So thank you everyone… this is all thanks to your support… <3
Sorry I’m getting a little mushy here aren’t I… x’D I just couldn’t be more grateful for this game if I tried… So, thank you so much Rain Code, for existing and doing so much for me and making me so happy… I have never had this much fun in a fixation before, and I never felt like I was ever truly part of any fandom and was always just a lurker. It feels so good to finally feel like part of a fandom you love, and also be well liked, admired and accepted by others despite your niche being a little on the odd side… XD
I really hope there will be a sequel for this game, and we’ll see all these wonderful characters again. After all I’ve been through with this title and how much joy and purpose it brought me, consider me a fan for life. I will be dedicated to every future title in this series and play the hell out of it. And I hope it gains a wider audience come October when it is released for more consoles. (Just hoping no weirdos take over and ruin it with stupid drama and horrible things like the DR fandom…)
Though once new fans come in and are also tumblr users…I wonder what they’d even think of me and my place and takes when it comes to this series… XD (hopefully they’ll be nice to me… XD)
Anyway, I’ve said enough.
Happy Anniversary RainCode!!

i know you've been talking about jason lately so i'll ask about smth different... robin jason (sorry)
idk idk lately i've been wanting to take a peek at his robin comics for the sake of writing fic (ofc...) but i'd like to hear what u think before that, a summary of sorts if u may (i also wanna contrast what u say with what i get out of it so yeah)
i feel like his robin days are so muddled by his identity as red hood later on, and even before that it was his death. u had people constantly blaming jason for dying in text (or else they'd have to admit bruce can make mistakes and everyone in dc is allergic to doing that) and painting him like someone reckless and violent (classist editorial u need to DIE), and then people in fanon painting him like a sweet fella who would do nothing wrong and as well as being bruce's Only Actual Son etc etc for the sake of making the situation around him all the more sadder (yeah yeah pathetic meow meow we've all seen it)
and i'm just curious bc i rlly wonder what the actual comics say about him, most likely something in the middle of this? exams are killing me but my god i'll come back to life after im done just to read jason robin's days... have a good day !!!
the difficulty with reading about jason as robin is that there are three primary periods that all differ fairly dramatically from each other — pre-crisis jason todd is a strawberry blond acrobat who’s almost adopted by dick grayson before becoming robin; post-crisis jason todd is a kid from crime alley who steals the wheels off the batmobile before becoming robin; and post-crisis, post-utrh jason todd is a very angry, very violent kid who becomes a cautionary tale after he gets himself killed (something he is often blamed for).
we can walk the line here. pre-crisis jason isn’t particularly relevant because so much of robin!jason’s stories depend on his reinvention after the reboot. all the crucial factors leading up to death in the family — growing up in the alley, both his mothers, his relationship with the robin mantle, his developing relationship with dick grayson, his slow schism from bruce, his relative isolation from other superheroes — are all crucial to who he is, especially after his death.
fanon about jason is annoying because there are valid criticisms that can be made about how he’s written with regressive, classist stereotypes, but as always it pivots way too far in one direction. jason wasn’t the “happy” or “angry” robin in the same way that dick wasn’t the happy or angry robin — they’re both characters that possess more than a single emotion. it’s true that jason was later written to be more explicitly violent (to contrast him with dick) but also like… they’re both pretty similar characters that differ in interesting ways. dick created robin to be a symbol of hope and joy. jason carried that on when he took up the mantle. they can both be angry at stuff without the world falling apart. it’s not that serious.
the dialogue about dick being a child soldier but jason being the true son makes me want to tear my hair out. jason became robin because bruce missed dick and was afraid of being alone. they’re both his gd kids. acting as though bruce wayne doesn’t love dick grayson so much that extra-dimensional beings can clock it is so fucking stupid. it once again ties into fanon’s obsession with each character only getting to be “one” thing. tim is smart, which means he’s the smartest. jason said robin made him magic, which means he’s happy all the time. dick chased after zucco in a grief spiral, which means he’s the violently angry one, with no other character traits. dick can’t have been nice to jason because he’s nice to tim, etc. seems a little silly, no?
i think i’ve only read jason’s brief run as robin once, though ive gone through a death in the family + a lonely place of dying a bunch of times, so ig my advice for reading him is to keep in mind the context in which he was created. dc comics was reeling from losing dick grayson as robin, and were really throwing anything at the wall to get something to stick. many, many negative tropes are baked into his introduction, and thanks to writers like jeph loeb and scott lobdell they have compounded over time. jason’s updated backstory is, with actual critical intent by the writer, a really good examination of how poverty and class will affect how someone views the world. his death was not his fault — and removing sheila haywood from that warehouse purposely makes his story less tragic. he was a good kid! and he was angry for a good reason. if jason had lived, i believe he would’ve carried on the robin tradition and left bruce behind once their differences became insurmountable.

Would you have any thoughts about the Gaang in a modern au (either with or without bending), especially jobs? I legit love how there’s never been a consensus of how they’d live, especially job wise, in the fandom — except for Katara, she is absolutely a doctor, surgeon, ER badass. Personally, I love the thought of Zuko as a child protective agent, and Sokka as a high school teacher, not just for the dramatic Zukka potential lol haha either way, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
aaa ok i love and adore to see how their roles get translated in modern au’s in such clever ways, i loveee your ideas for zukka workplace drama that’s so 🥺 ok i’ll list some of my faves but feel free to add
-doctor katara SO TRUE and activist katara also so true either way she’s helping people and giving all she’s got
-aang also activist monk-turned *insert job that has to do with flying?? or meteorology??* AND i love the silly little headcanon he and zuko are lion dance partners dkfjdj
-toph wwe champion. without question
- jet could also work with kids tbh as either a child protective agent too or teaching martial arts classes for kids as some sort of social program he zuko and toph have an underground fight club every tuesday he and iroh have a wholesome breaking bad situationship going on with banger edibles
- zuko the guy with 294737 job options tbh either as jasmine dragon clerk, firefighter, historian / khon expert and standing authority on the ramakien, parkour guy, sword guy, guy who goes to business school just to learn how to efficiently dismantle dad’s financial empire, and i am extremely partial on muai thay champion-instructor zuko who has like a post-injury gym program just for the zukka of it all of him helping sokka with his leg during rehab 😌
- sokka also guy that can do anything tbh wether working as inventor or in tech/mechanic fixing things, working at a science museum (hi robin), marine biologist (hi kath) working as an astronomer or at the planetarium bc he’s always been fascinated by the night sky and the moon, artist, poet, mythbuster, sword guy as well, all of these at once. most importantly he has an insanely popular food blog on the side
- suki kendo captain of an all-girl club
- florist mai. (specifically ikebana artist) which is comic canon and in context made little sense but i love it it’s beautiful bc it brings me to
- tattoo artist ty-lee 💕
- and azula uhhh nepobaby electrician

All my favorite moments in blue beetle: a very long and silly list because this is my new fav movie ever (latinos on top fr)
The fact that the entire movie is low key a representation of how lost people can feel after they finish college and don't know what to do with their life.
How celebrated it is that Jaime is a first gen college student
As much as I loved him being from el paso, I love that he now gets his own city that it still deeply rooted in latino culture
How despite the fact that everything is going bad for the family, Jaime still tries to keep moral up and be positive
Jaime stands up for Jenny without thinking
How his persistence is what ends him landing up with the scarab, and subsequently keeping it out of victorias hands
Am I allowed to say his entire family? The scene where they're all pushing him to open to the box was so funny. Their dynamic felt so real, and it makes even more sense because apparently any time they were bickering it was improv.
How well the movie handled micro-aggressions against latinos. Like the receptionist didn't even attempt Jaime name, and how Victoria would never get her scientist's name right. They are subtle, but very real problems.
Maybe this was just me, but from the trailers I thought Jenny and Jaime already new each other, but I liked that they just met. It made their story more interesting.
The body horror route they decided to take with the suit was so cool.
The suit in general. I missed practical suits so much, and it just looked so amazing.
Another thing, that has already been talked about a lot but idc, is that I still am so in love that his family knows from the get go. Of course it wasn't really his choice, but I love how there is never any big secret, and they are constantly in the picture.
I know the Khaji-Da doesn't have as much personality compared to the comics, but the whole sequence where Jaime first gets the suit was so funny.
Notoriously in the comics the beetles were sent out to worlds to be the harbingers for their creator species to invade said world. I loved the small detail in the intro of the blue beetle crashing into the green beetle and then having a flash of electricity. I wonder if that was to hint at a malfunction, since the Khaji-Da never goes to evil with Jaime.
I love Rudy's truck. It's stupid but that's why it's so good.
The whole family debrief was was funnier than it should've been, and the beetle on Jaime spine looked wicked as well.
I thought it was interesting how much of a presence Ted Kord had on the movie, mainly because. of Jenny, but it was still there.
Every. Single. Latino. Reference. I could barely keep up there were so many good ones omg, the details were amazing.
For Jenny being an original character I thought she was done very well
I love how Rudy was useful and basically got them into kord industries.
I love the way we only see Jaime eyes in the suit. It's a different approach to what we've seen with masked heroes so far and I love it
How much they talked about the first two blue beetles, I thought adding that context made it better
They made it very evident how lonely Jenny feels, and I think her small emotional moments really paid off in the end.
I love how Jaime was so openly affectionate with both Rudy and his father, it's something uncommon with men in latino cultures and I loved seeing it.
The entire sequence where Jaime's house was being raided was so uncomfortable. And it was in moments like this were I thought Soto did a great job of weaving real world problems latinos face within a superhero movie.
The moment when Jaime's father had a heart attack, and Jaime was being dragged away, and his sister was screaming was just so heartbreaking and powerful. All of them were hurting so much.
I loved how active his family was, and how all of them immediately went to go rescue him.
Side note: the bug ship looked so cool and goofy and I loved it so much
How Jose was actually very curious about Jaime's connection to the beetle, but Victoria didn't care
The whole dream scene with Jaime and his father. I thought it perfectly mirrored their conversation from the beginning of the movie, and I thought it was incredibly moving. Not to mention I loved the detail of Jaime wearing the last outfit he saw his father in.
I loved that Jaime saved himself, but that his family greatly aided him. I thought it was a great metaphor for the fact that you can do things on your own, but having support can really make the difference
I thought it was so funny that Jaime absolutely refused to kill, and his family members did it was a smile on their face lmaoo.
I know it's cheesy, but I always love it in superhero movies when the main character finally accepts their destiny and it was a very cool moment for Jaime too. But I will say I think they did it with an interesting approach. For most superhero movies the big moment is the superhero finally deciding to go out of their way and fight the big bad, but in this movie he just finally fights what's right in front of him.
How once Jaime accepted himself as the Blue Beetle, Khaji-Da started speaking to him in spanish and adopted his ideologies, further proving their relationship is a two way street.
I loved that Khaji-Da stopped Jaime from killing Carapax, because he was justifiable angry, but he would've regretted it at some point
The low key plot twist of the locket Carapax had not being his wife and child, but being him and his mother. That was genius tbh.
I loved that Jaime had the iconic 2000s superhero half masked fight. This movie felt so 2000's but in the best way possible.
How the entire final act was circling back to the point of loving his family making him weak, but throughout everything we've seen, it's clearly the opposite.
I liked how once Jaime bonded with Khaji his mask would come on and off on command.
How Jaime started wearing his father's necklace in the ending :(
I loved the entire score so much, the synth wave vibe they decided to take was fantastic. I also love how iconic and recognizable they made blue beetle's main theme. Like the bum bum bummm that kept showing up was so good.
I really loved how they aged Jaime up to 22 as a newly college grad. I feel like superheros are always either 16 or 40 and there's never any in between, so it was nice to see.
And for my last point to a very long list: I loved that in the end Carapax helped Jaime and Jenny. Because the real villain was Victoria making them fight each other, and in my opinion that was such a powerful metaphor for latinos and any pocs

please do tell about why woman of tomorrow sucks i love reading your takes they’re always so well written
Sure! And thank you for throwing me this bone because WOOF
(btw it's totally fine for people to like Woman of Tomorrow, and I can even see why! This is just my experience with it that I wish was talked about more)
Tumblr media
Quick context: Woman of Tomorrow is about a space farmgirl named Ruthye who seeks revenge on Krem, a guy who killed her dad. Supergirl guides her on this journey so they can learn lessons about grief and revenge.
The biggest flaw of the comic is the narrative prose. Ruthye's dialogue is a rambly, over-indulgent, stylized mix of an attempt at medieval Shakespearian speak, but then in the last few issues the writer remembers she's a farmgirl so he decides she should suddenly say "ain't" more often and speak in double negatives to sound a bit more Southern. I can enjoy wordy comics! But Ruthye's dialogue and narration is blatantly excessive purple prose. So many scenes would hit harder with a less-is-more approach while still being stylized and characteristic. Sometimes the narrations pairs nicely with the art to create layered irony, but most of the time it feels like it's disregarding the comics medium altogether.
Tumblr media
The other thing about Ruthye's narration is that it holds the story back. I get that the narration is Ruthye writing from the future, but the way it's done gives us a very passive relationship with the events of the story. We don't get to be with the characters in the action heavy moments because we're reading caption boxes of Future Ruthye rambling about poetry recounting The Battle of Capes. I'm not experiencing grief or dread with the characters, I'm being told about it. All of Ruthye's narrative rants boil down to "Supergirl is really badass, sad and kind. I promise this is deep." and "here's how my farm girl experience is relevant to this". Ruthye also speaks in glowing admiration, idealization and worship of Supergirl; it makes it really hard to get to know Kara in a humanizing way. I'm sure the purple prose hits differently for others, but I personally think the story would have more room to breathe without it.
Tumblr media
You know how people like saying "Superman is boring because everything is too easy for him, he's too powerful" yeah that's Woman of Tomorrow. The conflict Kara faces are not challenges to her character, they're inconveniences. The resolutions to each story don't feel clever or earned. Kara just knows where to find the murdered purple aliens, Kara just happens to have a silver age-reference magical horse that can outrun the suffering-ball Krem throws at her, Kara just toughs out 10 hours in the green sun. Why be a smart storyteller when you can just give your heroine the upper hand every single time? There could've been a great bonding moment where Ruthye uses her famer-smarts to build shade for Kara, she could've crafted a salve to protect Kara's skin. But I guess having her guard Kara from dinosaurs is ok. Kara helps of course, even though she's dying because she's so cool, badass, sad, kind, etc.
Tumblr media
Kara's internal conflict is that she was hoping that taking Ruthye on this journey would teach the farmgirl a lesson about revenge, but has Kara herself learned to move on? She's still thinking about Krypton after all. The problem with how this is presented is that it's not a flaw that we get to see evolve with the story. We see Kara act mopey, get an origin story flashback and then Kara tells us this- in hopes it'll recontextualize everything you've read before. By the time we make it to the end, the characters act like they've learned so much and I'm just standing here wishing I got to see all this growth they're talking about.
Tumblr media
At the heart of it, I feel like Woman of Tomorrow represents the side of Super-fandom that wants to see the Kryptonians deified by the narrative. They hate seeing Kara do silly girly rom-com teenager things, she needs to be SERIOUS and EDGY and SAD and ALONE but like a god would be and not how a young woman would be that way. How else will boys take her seriously? Don't forget to remind the reader that she's STRONGER than her boy scout wholesome cousin! There's potential in a short revenge story about young girls finding hope in seeing a role-model woman survive loss, but not like this.
Tumblr media
"You don't think I could've solved all those problems? C'mon I'm Supergirl." I sure love seeing female characters be badass girl-god legends who don't get to be humanized by being unflatteringly flawed people. Anyway the better Supergirl grief+revenge story is "Supergirl: Being Super". I don't think it's perfect because it misses the crucial difference between Kal and Kara among other things- but as a story about a teenage heroine learning how grief shapes her and those around her, it's way better.
Woman of Tomorrow's art is stellar though lmao would get a copy just as an artbook to reference.

Tʜᴇ Kɪʟʟɪɴɢ Vᴏᴛᴇ
Thirty-five years ago, DC Comics opened a phone poll to kill Batman's child sidekick, Robin.
The poll was open to paying callers in the U.S. and Canada for a window of 35 hours, starting on 15 September 1988 at 9AM EST. There were two premium-rate phone numbers—one for Robin's survival, and one for Robin's death. Each paying caller could call multiple times. The results were decided by a margin of 72 votes out of a total 10,614 votes—the difference was just under 0.68%.
Now you decide.

KILL ROBIN
Jerry Smith of Covington, Kentucky claims to have sold his Mercedes-Benz to pay for votes to kill Robin
"Who Killed Cock(y) Robin? I Killed Cock(y) Robin" article by Glen Weldon (2008)

SAVE ROBIN
Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), a noted Bat-fan and scholar, denounced the episode as a "Roman gladiator-like readers vote."
"I loved him [...] I personally voted for him to live 100 times, and my mom flipped when she saw the phone bill," says magazine writer Savas Abadsidis.
MJG6 said: I was dead broke, working my way through college, but I voted. My first job was at a comic book store, making me an OG fan girl, I guess, and I encouraged people to vote to save him. [...] Because killing a teen, in a role kids are supposed to identify with, that was just sick.

Kill Robin
Anonymous propaganda IN FAVOR of killing the lobster the Robin!
I love Jason Todd. I love his post-crisis Robin days, I love his sense of justice and his adorable love of learning and his silly curly bangs! I say this to emphasize that I don't want him killed out of any dislike of the character.
I want him dead out of a love for storytelling that gets to stick to its guns and doesn't pull its punches. In context of the poll we readers have just seen Dick Grayson get kicked out of the role due to Bruce's fear of him getting hurt, then he turns around and gets a new Robin anyways because he misses him! I really like that Bruce is being messy and hypocritical! Let that have some real consequences please!
If there were no real consequences then Dick got shoved out of being Robin for what? Hairbrained overprotective worry? Why even change the way he graduated into being Nightwing so much then or heck why even kick him out in the first place?
One might argue that we haven't even given this Robin proper time to develop, that instead he might be taken in new and interesting directions as his own unique Robin shaping the mantle into a legacy rather than just something that was Dick's. I admit this is a very good point, and we are cutting off some possible interesting avenues. As I mentioned, I do like this character! But are we really going to get that?
If DC is already prepared to toss him out of this mortal coil and through the pearly gates after such a short while, do we really think we're going to get much more love and care applied to him?
I say let's roll the dice for something new! May the comics world and all these characters have to deal with the ramifications for many years to come!
Save Robin
robin’s death (and subsequent resurrection) is, frankly, an insult to robin fans of that era. to want to see this child get killed in a brutal manner for no apparent reason, to see jason essentially removed from the narrative so batman could go back to being gritty and depressed—this is awful to me. he hadn’t even been robin for very long!
but that’s not why he should’ve lived.
the resurrection of jason todd as the red hood was narratively interesting enough that it kept most fans of the original jason hooked, and it still does! he has become a prime example of a trauma survivor: his death changed him, and those who loved him have difficulty accepting that.
but there is no resolution to that story, nor was there a resolution to jason’s tenure as robin. dick chose to leave robin behind and take on a new mantle. tim, steph, both had robin taken away from them (and let’s forget about how tim is still robin, because that doesn’t matter right now). damian’s role as robin conflicts with his misconception of his role in the family. everyone else has had an ending, and jason’s death…well. after his resurrection, he has somehow remained stagnant and wildly inconsistent at the same time. this applies to under the red hood too.
at its core, utrh is a deeply classist retelling of jason’s life pre-death in the family. winick makes him a villain—albeit a sympathetic one—who fucks over or kills people that he would’ve thrown himself in front of to save as robin. in utrh, the implication is that jason had always been violent and angry (and morally compromised), and that he was destined to become worse.
it sometimes feels that jason’s transition into being the red hood (and all the characterization that comes with that) was a decision dc made for shock value. just from jason’s robin run, it’s difficult to imagine jason becoming the red hood. it doesn’t feel inevitable. it’s tragic.
ultimately, i believe that jason never should have died, and that his death was a stunt by dc for its shock value. jim starlin wanted jason dead because to him a child sidekick, in a medium that was originally made for children, was “sheer insanity”. he was fridged, plain and simple.

A Short Essay on Names in My Hero Academia and What That Means for Katsuki and Izuku
Introduction
Names have always had an important role in the storytelling of My Hero. Names dictate personality, they tell us the viewer, who the character is. Not in the most point blank way of say, naming a bad guy "Lucifer" to show that this character is evil or complex. But in the sense of what that name means to the character. For example, the personality shift when it's revealed Dabi is Touya Todoroki. People have talked about it. Dabi is quiet and reserved, but Touya is loud and eccentric and wild. With the name revealed, he is free to be who he is. He reverts to who he was back when he was known as Touya, because now the world knows him as Touya, so now he can act like Touya.
Hawks used to be Keigo Takami, but he had his name stripped from him by the HPSC. He's Hawks now, just Hawks. That's all people know him as. And it's not like all heroes hide their identity. It isn't like a DC Comics situation. If that were the case, Aizawa probably would have been called Eraserhead-Sensei by the kids instead of Aizawa-Sensei. So heroes hiding their identity isn't a large part of this hero society. Meaning Hawks did not have to lose his name but it was taken from him to show he was now their puppet, their property. He wasn't his own person anymore but an extension of the HPSC.
Starting with "Kacchan"
I know we're joking about Katsuki telling the greatest villain that his name is Kacchan and it is silly, but just think of it seriously for a moment.
Izuku has become/always has been such an integral part of Katsuki's identity. Katsuki is Katsuki because of Izuku. He is Kacchan because that's what Izuku calls him. And Izuku is part of who he is so he must be Kacchan above all other things. Because Kacchan is tied to Izuku, and Izuku is part of who Katsuki is.
It's so beautiful and while the idea of telling the biggest enemy ever that his name is actually Kacchan is super silly, think about it in the context. It's the second defining battle against the villains. Katsuki had just died not five minutes ago when Izuku arrives. Katsuki just died with Izuku being his last thought, with Izuku's name being the last thing he says. But then Izuku comes and there is hope. And then Katsuki is alive and there is hope again.
Ending with "Deku"
Now, the name Deku is very much complicated especially in relation to what it means to Izuku. For years it was used in the same way some people would use a slur. To harm, to other, to put down. But it was given to him by Katsuki, and so he keeps it. Ochako tells Izuku that she likes it, and for the first time Izuku hears that name used with a positive connotation. And that is a turning point for him, and I believe the start of the change in Katsuki's and Izuku's relationship, or at least, the foreshadow of the change.
From there, Izuku makes Deku his hero name and effectively reclaims it. When people ask his name, he always says his name is Deku before his actual name- Izuku Midoriya. That's something that's always stuck out to me. He is doing what Katsuki did during the battle. He is calling himself by the name Katsuki gave him. Just like Katsuki telling Shigaraki/All for One his name is Kacchan. It's the same reason, same meaning. Just Izuku did it first.
Because with Izuku and Katsuki, the other is so integral to who they are as a person. Izuku is Deku because Katsuki said so, and Katsuki is Kacchan because Izuku said so. You can not have one without the other. You can not understand one without knowing or understanding the other. You need one, to know the other.
Conclusion
What Horikoshi has done with names and their meanings in the overall narrative of My Hero is beautiful. In My Hero, names are the very essence of who a character sees themself as. It is such a profound way to write your characters and I love it so much.

Loser Round 6: Damian Wayne (DC) vs. Mabel Pines (Gravity Falls)
Tumblr media
Propaganda below the cut
Damian Wayne (9-14):
Damian is a kid who was raised as an assassin and because of that when he first appears he has some really messed up ideas of how to prove himself to his father by being aggressive with the criminals they capture and attacking his brother. Because of this people act like he is the most evil character ever and refuse to give him any grace. They make him out to be this awful irredeemable monster who just wants to kill his brother and hurt people. If the fandom isn’t making his out to be The Worst(tm) then they are ignoring his existence all-together. He is a really interesting character who has done some not so great things but he’s grown and learned a lot through various character arcs (as much of an arc as a comic book character can have) and he deserves to be acknowledged for himself and not just as a villain so that people can woobify his brother.
——
HES JUST A LITTLE BABY GUY!!!!! Little baby man raised as an assassin and learning how to be a real person <3. But because he was kind of a dick and also a little stabby early-on, especially to the fandom's main "so sad uwu depressed baby" blorbo (and also he's not white), people treat him like he's satan incarnate
I haven't read the comics though so I'm going off what some people said about it.

the best "comic relief" character of all time forever without question she is great and you should love her thank you [spoilers for misericorde]
Tumblr media
Every single Misericorde fan loves Darcy. She is one of unquestioned fan favourites, second probably only to Hedwig herself. I have never met a single person who has had a single negative thing to say about her, and I highly doubt they exist. But I've also noticed that among fans there's less serious discussion about her compared to the others, which I think is a bit of a shame cause I think she's also one of the best written characters, in a game with nothing but well written characters. And I just wanna ramble about this character for a bit cause she literally rewrote my personality for months after I played it and I just wanna talk about it.
Part 1: Getting to know Darcy
This is the line that introduces us to Darcy:
Tumblr media
In context, after playing the whole game, this line is kind of patronizing and rude. But with literally prior interactions with her, we don't have the context to understand that, especially with the goofy music in this scene.
youtube
Tumblr media
After this we get more dialogue where Eustace gets mad at Darcy for doing drugs before service. Again, we don't know Darcy OR Eustace yet. Replaying it, I get the sense that Eustace is moreso concerned about Darcy, given Eustace's other actions later in the story, but without knowing her yet it seems we have a pretty standard comedy duo. The silly one who gets them into situations, and the serious one who gets frustrated at the other's antics.
It's here where I need to talk about one of the major running trends in misericorde: first impressions. Misericorde cleverly draws on our knowledge of pre-existing tropes to get us to assume things about characters, only to subvert these later. This is the case for pretty much every character. Flora is just a rebellious kid, until she reveals that she's incredibly smart and is the first to figure out that something's up with Hedwig. Angela is mean for no reason, until she reminds us that someone in the Abbey has just been murdered so of course she's paranoid (though to be fair yeah she's also just mean lol). By calling on these tropes before subverting them, we're invited into Hedwig's shoes. Hedwig is an incredibly judgemental person, who easily assumes the worst in people and struggles to get over her initial impressions. And without realizing it, we're led to believe her impressions of people.
So, what is Darcy's first impression? Well, she's a stoner. She does drugs because she thinks its fun. She's a silly comic relief character. Now, if that was all she was, that wouldn't be bad, she'd be a pretty enjoyable character. In fact, I would say that her being somewhat of a stoner IS part of her character (if she was around today she would 100% love weed). But there's one more dimension to her drug use. But we don't learn more about that for a while.
Then we get to her next big scene, her vision.
First important thing to note about this scene is that it has some absolutely iconic Darcy dialogue.
Tumblr media
I love her so much.
Second, this is where we start to learn more about Darcy. Most notably, her drug use is more than just for fun, it's to bring on visions. I am deliberately treating her visions as real here, and not calling them hallucinations brought on by whatever she's drinking for one important reason: Darcy 100% believes in her visions.
Tumblr media
This is one of my favourite parts about her. Her spirituality is taken incredibly seriously by the VN. I'll get into this later, but man it is so nice to see a character like Darcy be taken seriously in this regard. I feel like in any other story a character like her who is strange and has visions would be played off like a joke. I can think of quite a few characters like that. But not Darcy. There's a scene later on where she's coaching Hedwig through interpreting what she saw in a vision and it's just great.
Firstly because Darcy is an absolute treasure, as per usual.
Tumblr media
But secondly, because Darcy is suddenly put into this kind of sage role for Hedwig, guiding her through her spiritual experiences. Think about the first meeting with Darcy, where she was treated 100% as a joke. Now Hedwig, the character who spends literally the entire story lecturing other people about religion, has turned to Darcy for spiritual help.
Tumblr media
Darcy throughout the story is slowly revealed to know more and more. And Hedwig begins to take her more and more seriously. From their first meeting, to Hedwig learning about her visions, to their conversation while on sheep herding duty, to here. This is almost presented like a twist, where Hedwig finds out that Darcy's knowledge complete outshines Hedwig in some areas she would previously consider herself the expert in. But, at the same time, Hedwig doesn't care too much. She's never like "I was shocked to see Darcy know so much about theology" except for one line about how authoritative she looks, because by this point Hedwig has gotten very close to Darcy, and has had a very slow arc of realizing that beneath the surface Darcy is brilliant and kind and a lovely person underneath a silly exterior. It's no wonder that Darcy is one of the few characters that Hedwig has nothing but praise for in her ending notes.
Tumblr media
Honestly, Hedwig says it better than I could, right?
Darcy is actually rather unique from some of the other characters with secret sides Hedwig finds out about, because she doesn't hide who she is. Hedwig assumed the wrong thing about her, but that doesn't make sense, right? Because she never pretends to be less intelligent than she is. She's extremely open about all of this, she never hides any of what makes her such a wonderful character. So why did Hedwig, and by extension the audience, get the wrong idea about her? Well, it's pretty simple when you think about it. It's because
Part 2: Darcy has autism.
I'm not going to list out every autistic trait Darcy has. It's never named because they live in the middle ages, but her monotone speech (represented really creatively by a lack of capitalization and punctuation in her text), abnormal speech patterns, misunderstanding of social cues, irregular sleep schedules (she looks SO tired all the time), etc, are all pretty clear signs that she's autistic.
And this representation means a lot to me. Like, more than I can put into words. She isn't treated like a child, her autism doesn't make her magically better at things than other people, she isn't some kind of genius who nobody can understand, she's far from emotionless, has meaningful friendships with the people around her, has a girlfriend totally-just-a-close-friend who cares deeply about her, and is generally decently liked among the nuns instead of being a major burden to be around like some autistic characters are treated in media.
However, the VN also doesn't pretend her autism doesn't hurt her in some ways. Most notably, her relationships with the other nuns. They like her, but there's a concerning trend among them, where they don't seems to see all the stuff I talked about in part 1.
Remember this?
Tumblr media
Katherine has known Darcy for years, and this is all she can say about her. She doesn't bring up that she's a talented gardener, sees visions, is the best cook in the abbey, or anything else. Darcy is just very special. Which, yeah, she IS very special and we love her so much but is that all Katherine really has to say? I said Darcy isn't treated like a child by the narrative, but at the same time, the nuns overlook her point of view on important matters. They use the bloody cloth she found as evidence, but don't seem to care much about her doubts about the story.
Tumblr media
This even applies to Eustace, her closest friend who she 100% secretly dating. Eustace is overly protective of Darcy. This makes sense, Eustace has lost friends before and is terrified that she will lose them again, but with the autism reading in mind it isn't hard to see Eustace as perhaps going too far in sheltering Darcy.
So, obviously, this connected with me a lot. Darcy is someone whose surface level traits she cannot control lead to her being misjudged and looked down on, and I relate heavily in that regard. Our shared struggles with neurodivergence had me feeling a lot of empathy with her, but despite that, Darcy is also in a community that accepts her. Hedwig admires her, Eustace loves her, and people around her treat her differences as charming and just part of who she is rather than something to be fixed. And when I first read it that meant, and still means, more to me than I can express here. Darcy is an autistic woman who's autistic traits are never sidelined: there's never a scene where she gets so serious that she stops talking in her trademark Darcy mannerisms, despite still being allowed to take part in heavy scenes. It was so incredible reading about an autistic woman who had many of my own traits, and was just allowed to have them, and was loved and respected while carrying the traits I was expected to mask. She made me far more confident in carrying those traits, and helped me learn that if I find the right community I won't have to mask at all, just like her.
By the end she's someone Hedwig has grown to care deeply about. She's one of Hedwig's closest confidants, a distinction few characters in the story share. I think this is because of their shared experience. Hedwig is also someone who sees the world differently from other people, due to her sheltered upbringing. She's someone whose simple understanding of the world and morality is crushed under the weight of humanity's complexity. And as she learns, Darcy isn't someone who lacks complexity, but Darcy is someone who rarely feels the need to hide who she really is from Hedwig. Hedwig sees the depth within Darcy really quickly, and in turn, Darcy loves spending time with Hedwig. The deep unspoken connection and mutual respect is a treasure to read about, and was one of my favourite parts of reading volume 1.
Darcy is someone who I think many autistic people will see themselves in, I know for a fact that I did. She's such an absolute treasure to read about, is one of my all time favourite fictional characters, and I cannot WAIT to see her again in volume 2.
...please don't let her be the culprit please please please please : (

here is an ask that is a free excuse to talk about any disco elysium prowldome thoughts you have because i am FASCINATED by it in the abstract but having a hard time nailing it down
so your original tags on the post this relates to specified that CD is Kim (and therefore, Prowl is Harry) and that is what actually made me really interested. because not making the self-destructive amnesiac character CD (who in canon is... that in a different way) was SO interesting to me. i will cut this both for potential DE spoilers and also so people can choose whether or not to read my overlong ramblings. lmao.
so the thing about DE as a text is that it's doing a really specific thing gameplay wise, derived from the biggest inspiration it has mechanically, which is the game Planescape Torment. specifically it is doing this thing where the idea of the amnesiac protagonist as a 'clean slate' is troubled by constant catastrophic interaction with NPCs that knew your player character before they lost their memory, so while you as the player are roleplaying as them as vessels to project yourself onto because of their diagetic memory loss, you are constantly having that fantasy of 'starting over fresh' and total control over them as an agent undermined by the reality that other people remember them, and their influence on this fictional world pre-dates your own.
i think that's SUCH a fascinating lens through which to look at what Prowl does as a character; his constant attempts at- and more to the point failure at- reinvention, because the thing that constantly gets in his way is always... himself. his own past actions catching up to him and his inability to handle that. right? so he's an incredibly interesting kind of archetype to put into this story just because the thing that always undermines him is his inability to get away from his impact on other people. he can change how he feels or who he is, but he can't change what he's done. this is a really great character to put into a narrative role like Harry in DE.
the thing is that Chromedome is not Kim, because the entire point of Kim is to give you someone to make that new first impression on. right? Kim is the character from out of town who knows of you by reputation but has no pre-existing relationship to you as an actual person. who you decide to play Harry as in the moment becomes who Kim knows you to be.
if Chromedome is anyone, surely he's. you know. Harry's ex he keeps alienating by calling her and freaking her out begging her to come back because he thinks they're inevitable and he refuses to tolerate life without her. he's Dora, at least very loosely. (well. he could be Jean, i guess. but like. I do not give a fuck about Jean. sorry.)
so i was thinking this over and like... a DE version of these two where the twist is that you think Chromedome is Kim and this is how these two meet on a case and become (professional) partners, and in reality he's been lying since realising that Prowl has no memory and he is, in fact, the ex that Prowl's limbic system keeps dropping hints he's really fucked up over (and who he has lingering repressed guilt over the knowledge he did in some way fuck over)... i think that's how i see this working tbh. it's fascinating to imagine how Chromedome would like. respond to that. and what his motivations are- both what they start off as and where they end up depending on how things go, and what an amnesiac Prowl decides to do and how he chooses to conduct himself.
there are a lot of things that i think are completely inextricable from DE even in the context of vague wonderings about silly hypothetical fandom AUs. first off, DE is about politics, and the kind of person Harry becomes in the face of his amnesia is tied extremely closely to that. fandom tends to gloss over the fact that a ton of Prowl's negative development in exRiD specifically is also linked to that comic making some points about politics, i feel; it's not that they're subtle or anything lmao, fandom just tends to focus on characters in a very individualist sense that doesn't always line up with what that comic is using them for. Prowl is someone who refuses to relinquish wartime power (and the abuses thereof) in the aftermath of a (from his perspective, still ongoing) conflict. and he is the guy, in DE, who would have been intellectually sympathetic towards the revolution, but he'd also have been working to put it down. (also, this is clearly different from Harry, who grew up in the aftermath of its failure, the generation dealing with an after that was traumatic.) and so much of Prowl's moves towards that tight grip on authoritarian power in exRiD comes from a contextually developed fear- both for himself (if he relinquishes his sunk cost fallacy there are a lot of things he did that were not justified) and for the society he imagines is under constant risk of falling into chaos if he does not. but what does he believe when he doesn't remember all the things that brought him to that point? i mean, the prowl we saw in Shadowplay thinks very differently than the one we see in the present. and specifically Roberts writes Prowl as someone whose initial drive was to try and escape the war and its conflicts altogether. so your angle there is very in line with what DE does with Harry and his amnesia, I think.
Chromedome meanwhile... i think the idea of a post-war Chromedome who has survived his own attempts at self-destruction and come to loathe Prowl playing this role of silent, judgemental observer of Prowl with this ostensible opportunity to change, who lies about not knowing Prowl as a kind of mirror to the way Chromedome has erased other relationships in his life to avoid confronting the pain of them... is really interesting, honestly. (there are versions of this where he is married to Rewind and there are versions of this where Rewind is at least temporarily still dead, and i like both tbh.) does Chromedome want Prowl to be able to genuinely change through this? perhaps the cracks in his story start showing when unlike Kim, he responds with increasing frustration at Prowl actually doing so, a thing it doesn't make sense for him to be bitter about if he's really a stranger. meanwhile Prowl is clearly and immediately latching onto Chromedome as someone he has decided he admires, and declares trust in. (harry idealizes kim a lot; the vision he has of dora, too, calls him out on literally deifying her; and we see in idw canon that for all his irritation with Chromedome now he casually asserts ludicrous stuff like 'you're literally too fantastic at your job for it to kill you' and so on.) had Chromedome comfortably convinced himself that was all bullshit and Prowl has no actual remaining feelings towards him, that it was all just to get Chromedome to do useful shit for him when he snapped his fingers? does seeing evidence to the contrary- that Prowl's feelings continue to be, annoyingly, real and genuine- destabilize him?
god there's a TON more i want to think about here. obviously there are a lot of things DE explores that bringing into this complicates as well. DE talks about suicidality and addiction extensively, obviously, for starters. (which are probably themes most people would automatically project onto Chromedome, which makes this specific configuration really interesting, i think.) the inevitable futility of trying to be an individual who is 'one of the good ones' in a system where that doesn't matter and will never allow you to be. you could probably tie that in with functionism if you wanted, and Prowl's seeming baseline agreement with at least some parts of that system on some level despite it clearly not benefiting him overmuch. right? there's a lot of potential room to engage directly with not just the basic plot setup of DE but its actual themes i think, which sort of surprised me to realise. (and is why it kept bopping around in my head, because that's really the only way i would be interested in a fusion AU kind of thing modelling itself on Elysium; i'm not here for the trope-y setup, i'm here for what DE actually does thematically and the crunchier topics it commits to exploring.)
anyway. please consider. you know that skill check you can get in the last dream with Dora? the one you can 'succeed' and it's really, really bad to do so, actually? yeah. please consider that skill check in this context. ahahaha. I SURE AM
