Hot take: Kayako from Juon, specifically the Japanese movies, is the ultimate female rage icon.
Imagine dying a death with such strong, intense emotions that you come back as a vengeful ghost. And not just any vengeful ghost. One with rage so steep it manifests into a curse. A curse so potent that whoever steps into the house, even one step, they are done for. And not only that, that person who they interact with, even if they've never been in the house? Bam, cursed. She has no power limit, no creative limit, nothing.
This woman is literally crawling, very slowly, most of the time and she can rip out your jaw? She can pull you up into the attic like she did to that tutor woman in the beginning of Juon: The Curse? She literally just heaved her up there like nothing. Not just the physical, but she can literally quite paralyze you in fear by her presence alone. People say, "oh why don't they get up?" maybe her presence has the same, if not more, power as a tiger's roar, which is known to quite literally paralyze its prey. She can possess you. She can switch between physical states (spirit, semi-physical ghost, or even presenting herself as she was when she was alive???)
And Kayako is by far the most creative ghost I've ever seen. Killing someone from the perceived safety of one's blanket while tormenting them with your son in tow until their last moments? Killing someone via being a projection screen on someone's ceiling? Killing someone by appearing through a wig on the floor? Manifesting in one's baby and be quite literally reborn? My lord.
Juon was made, partially, as a response to the rise of domestic violence during that time in Japan. I think what really highlighted this was when, after Kayako possessed Yoshimi in Juon: The Curse 2. That one scene where she made breakfast and all her husband did was complain about the coffee beans, the food, and she one hit did him in with the pan to the head? Yeah.
That woman's rage and sorrow in death is so powerful that even she herself cannot escape its curse bound in vengeance. So, to be more accurate, it's more like a strong rage and sorrow mix. But still, I believe she is the ultimate boss of female rage. Because she is unstoppable. Kayako's spirit will be fueled with rage and sorrow until the end of time, and maybe after.

Finding a way to watch Black Ghost was hard enough in the first place, and then it had the nerve to also be bad????

My Favorite Ghost Movies
Lake Mungo (2008)
The Others (2001)
The Changeling (1980)
The Shining (1980)
A Tale of Two Sisters (2003)
Shutter (2004)
Stir of Echoes (1999)
The Conjuring (2013)
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Crimson Peak (2015)*
The Grudge (2004)**
The Orphanage (2007)
*This is not a horror movie. Honestly, I don't count The Sixth Sense as one either, but they're both horror adjacent. The best completely non-horror ghost movie of all time is of course Muppet Christmas Carol.
**Juon is not on here because the CGI on the jaw scene in the original Japanese film looks wonky as hell and throws me off every time
1408 is not on here because that's not ghosts, that's an evil fucking room. Ring/The Ring don't make the list because ever since I read the books those movies are based on and found out what Sadako and the other people in her story actually are, I can't think of her as a ghost anymore. Hereditary is demons, not ghosts. And The Haunting isn't here because The Haunting is bad. Yes, I mean the one from 1963. The emperor is naked.

uhhhhhg....been sick the past.....week (allergies evolving into sinus infection). TT0TT
May or may not be slowly crawling back into my Juon/Grudge phase again. (is it because Kayako acts the way I feel atm? TT0TT aka unable to talk and crawling on the ground? kldfjlaks;jf)
Also finished AC Mirage it was....fine! Perfectly fine. A nice mid game. I'd give it a B-. It was competent (which isn't a high bar, but it's a bar that I don't think a lot of stuff has been clearing atm). Story was a story. There was a guy, he had an arc, there was conflict, it got resolved. Set up. Pay off.
Mirage's strong points are in it's gameplay imo. The focus on stealth and the balance of old vs new mechanics were decent. It wasn't bloated like Valhalla. Nice small map (tho empty with some of the wilderness areas TT0TT). Decent parkour. Missions go at a faster/breakneck pace. The game is more flexible in how you go about taking out targets.
I dunno I heard a lot of bad things about it, but I thought it was fine. I'd recommend it....tho I'd recommend playing Valhalla first klasdjf;lkajf I know it's a prequel, but....it just makes more sense.
Anyway playing a game called "The Bad Kids" and I'm loving it. Scratching that it I've had since Detention. And then I found out there's a book AND a TV show???? And the book is on audible??? Yeah I snatched that right up fdklsjaflkdsja

He hangs on every word as more trivia spills from her lips. Alli has become his 'tour guide' in all things. While his pursuits and his condition kept him indoors most of the time, she found ways to bring the world outside to him - whether she knew it or not. Every meeting with her brought so many new experiences. He didn't mind how she manhandled him a bit to bring herself closer to him. In response, he wraps his arms around her waist, basking in the warmth of her body. "I don't mind at all. They're yours to enjoy after all." It so cute the way she refers to the sugary snack as 'Kirby Stars.' He couldn't help but smile at that. Every excited little reaction for such a simple moment brought his heart alight. How a girl with such a dark past - from what he knew anyway - could have such a zest for life was endearing, and inspiring if he was honest with himself. Having had his own brush with death from succumbing to his own despair, he found himself looking to her. Seeing the joy and elation with such simple little things gave him hope that he wouldn't make such a mistake again. His gaze meets hers and her grin is met with a soft smile. "Since there's subtitles, I hope I'll also be getting some bits of trivia along the way. I'm not as familiar with American horror." He thinks for a moment. "Come to think of it, I think there are a couple of movies that originated from here that was re-done in America. 'Juon' and 'Ringu' - 'The Grudge' and 'The Ring.' I've seen the originals, but not the American versions."
jiro!!!!
which one is ur room
I think I found it
but I can't read kanji so idk if it's urs :P
oh rite!!
I'm @ mrtkrnken for our sleepover!!
He hadn't expected her to come over so soon, but the timing was good at least. Jiro was filing the last of the patient records away when he received her message. He could just message her to head to his office. He could confirm his room was the only one where the nameplate was only in kanji as opposed to both. He could even say he was on his way... But that wouldn't be as fun, now would it? Grinning to himself, he makes the trip back to his dorm. He spies Alli standing in front of his door looking through her phone. Taking advantage of her distraction, he walks up behind her placing a hand over her eyes while the other hand secures her phone in case she drops it. He whispers a quiet "Boo" in her ear before planting a kiss on her cheek.

Graphtober challenge by @graphtober ▶︎ Day 20 - FREAKY : Histoire de monstre/Monster Story
