If your main story followed canon, how would your Naoya handle the situations that canon Naoya was put in? Do you think Naobito still put in that thing about Megumi in his will and do you think Maki would’ve ended up killing the Zen’ins(she’d most likely spare Y/N and her children and maybe Naoya if Y/N asked) or do you think it would’ve never gotten to that point at all? Omg this is such a difficult question to answer because I feel like everything would still continue on as the manga! With a few exceptions, of course. Let's get to them 👀👀👀

Naobito would still select Megumi over Naoya to be his successor (if the clause regarding Gojo becomes effective) however, your dear husband wouldn’t go batshit crazy over it.

Instead, he’ll get to see how messed up it really was for him to become leader at 15 years of age. So young, unprepared, and the fact that he hadn’t spent time with the Zen’in, meaning he didn’t know how everything went down, just made it worse! This is definitely a reflection of him becoming a father; he sees Megumi as either one of his babies and the dangers and stresses of becoming clan leader drives him crazy with worry! It’s a tough job, that’s for sure, one he never wishes either of them to endure.

THOUGH the one thing I struggle with deciding the most is whether the Zen’in massacre happens or not.

It’s interesting to see how Mai and Maki would grow up to be in an environment where you were around; The easiest route to take is to say that Naoya remained the same jerk we know from the manga, everything continues on as planned, and that’s it! But then, I don’t think you’d be able to stay around for that long! Certainly not to tolerate a man that disrespects you constantly.

Though I do like to play with the idea that you were there ‘till the end, as the quiet, submissive wife Naoya always wanted you to be. Your relationship with him wasn’t the best, but as long as you kept to yourself, served him, and so on… everything was fine. Kind of. Until a baby came along…

BUT WE’RE NOT HERE FOR THE REALISTIC part, we’re here for my version of Naoya 😏 and so, I’d like to say that maybe, just maybe, the murder of the Zen’in never happens (I still struggle to accept it happened in the first place! I 100% believe Mai cursed her. Like, Maki never hinted wanting that but anyways) because you would’ve done your best to set a better life for the twins, persuade Naoya to use his influence for their benefit. I doubt anyone would’ve cared much since they were “irrelevant” to the clan so yeah sure, why not!

The one that would’ve put up much resistance obviously would be Ogi and their mom, Junko. Going as far as reproaching you about it, but you did not budge. Not after all the horrible things they’ve gone through. You couldn’t back down.

But of course, as much as you tried to stop the clan from being crude to them, some would still persist, more so when Maki eventually decides to pursue a career as a sorcerer (You and Naoya would have discussions about this; he still believes that people with no cursed energy shouldn’t be sorcerers, even if there were ways to go around that. You insisted otherwise.) making things worse for Mai with her inevitable departure.

I have no idea how Maki got to enroll in the school and whatnot, mainly because the Zen’in would finally intervene at this point, saying something like “We allowed you to act the fool, use the heir to make their lives better. But we draw the line at sorcery—back off if you know what’s good for you.”

Thus, for the sake of this ask (and my curiosity) I’ll make it as if you were the one to call Gojo intending to ask a favor out of him. Informing him of what was going on with her (specifically how talented she was!! So, he better not mess this up!) and make sure he gives her all the support she needs; because you knew damn well the Zen’in were not people to underestimate and would go out of their way to ruin her life. But at least they respected (feared) the leader of the Gojo clan enough to not intervene… that much.

As for Mai, you end up recruiting her as part of your staff; a kind of hidden, diplomatic solution to protect her from being forcibly enrolled as a sorcerer as well. The Zen’in hated you for it, but what could they do? They sure liked abusing the system, but when it was the other way around, they hated it. Talk about hypocritical…

Naoya, even though he didn’t agree with much of what was happening between you and the twins (mainly because it made you a target of his family, again) would still 100% remain by your side. Any snarky comments from them he’d shut down immediately, with the threat of retaliation if they persisted.

Unfortunately, there’s only so much you could do to protect the twins—so maybe that massacre does happen in the end. I’m still debating whether you die or not, but it’s most likely that you do, solely because I believe Maki was cursed by her sister. Mai told her to destroy everything and she did.

YET I DON’T FEEL HAPPY WITH NOT GIVING YOU A CERTAIN ANSWER, MORE SO WHEN IT’S A PESSIMISTIC ONE, SO: No for the sake of a happy ending, you don’t die. Mai is eternally grateful for the things you’ve done for her and her sister (you managed to ease the tensions between the two, Maki apologizes for leaving and Mai understands why she left) so, she doesn’t hold any grudges, and thus, she doesn’t ask her sister to destroy everything 😊

Instead, when you and Naoya decide to live away from the estate for a while, you invite the twins over with their mother, if they wished. Junko heavily decides against it, but since you take your staff and Mai is part of your staff, she has to go. (This is nothing but a formality, you let Mai do whatever she wants. She doesn’t really work for you) and Maki goes whenever she has free time at school.

Megumi ends up becoming the clan leader because of Shibuya, but he ends up giving the role to Naoya by… insistence of Maki! She trust him to do a good job now (and because she knows you’ll keep him in check haha) and since it’s a reformed Naoya, you can bet he will do his best to restructure the Zen’in into a better clan. I mean, do we honestly think he’d like to see those things, especially when they happened to you (with the fear of them occurring to his own kids as well), and not do anything?

So yeah! There you got it. TLDR: your interference in Naoya’s life essentially changed everything that happened in the clan, to the point where they didn’t get killed for it hahaha. NGL this totally sounds as Y/N was some kind of messiah with all the work she did, but hey, that’s the power of love 🫣🤣

Now that both Ibuki and Hiyoko are up, we need to prepare for when Mikan wakes up. I can see at least two possibilities: (1) She awakes in a similar fashion to Ibuki or (2) she awakes as her Remnant self like in the 3rd Trial. We don't really need to do anything drastic if the first one happens. But if the second one occurs, she needs to be restrained and contained immediately as she'll most likely try to harm others or off herself so that she can be with Junko. Does anyone agree with this?

No OP Esper powers but there's still experiment bullshit. Love me some fucked up science to cope with my basic science life.

The Level 5s are a military experiment to develop enhanced super soldiers I fucking guess.

The #1 started off as their first and only all-round success. His reflexes are so strong that he's essentially untouchable. A single punch is stronger than a cannon. He moves faster than bullets. Idk. Think the most ridonkulus abilities ever.

Yes I know it's wild that Accelerator went from twink who relied on his reflection powers to someone who's essentially the strongest fighter in the world.

The #2 trained together with #1, but his specs fell short despite going through the same training regime.

The researchers decided that successfully replicating all of #1's specs was a pipe dream, so they started training other Level 5s with some sort of specialization.

#3 has lightning fast reflexes (heh, get it?). She prefers fighting with quick successive strikes, though her "signature move" is something like Saitama's "single normal punch". It wrecks her arm every time she uses it though. Her muscle fibers are durable enough to withstand constant wear and tear from moving quickly, but not a single explosive strike like that.

#4 replicated #1's overall strength. While #3's general output is limited (in Level 5 terms), #4 can dish out those explosive strikes without damaging her body right away. And even if her bones literally break and her muscles tear, she can keep fighting anyway. Girls' got the highest pain tolerance of all the Level 5s.

#5 replicated, and even exceeded, #1's charisma and persuasive ability. Think "sweet talking" but cranked up by 500. Also she's still the least athletic, but because of all the drugs and experiments she's still strong enough to tank punches from a grown man. Doesn't mean she likes it.

#6 was a genius and got the fuck out years ago lol

#7 wasn't actually a lab guinea pig that grew up under the experiments. He was brought in because he naturally had these aptitudes. The higher ups couldn't control him though and he destroyed every facility he was brought to, so they just left him alone.

The ranks are just based on when they started the training regime. It doesn't have anything to do with strength lol.

The Level 5 candidates from canon (specifically Junko and Takitsubo because I don't want to think about the others) were the "next generation" meant to replicate a specific Level 5's capabilities. I'm throwing Kinuahata in this group too. ITEM's stacked.

Mikoto still gets her DNA misused, though the "Level 6 Shift" project gets accelerated in this AU. The experimenters started with one, a dozen, and then amped it up to over a hundred Sisters to dogpile Accelerator. It's not as much of a curbstomp as canon, but he still beats them.

The Sisters have similar capabilities as Mikoto, though their specs are also downgraded.

Alright, that's for powers and shit. Now for relationships:

Accelerator and Kakine were part of the same training group, while Mikoto, Shokuhou, and Mugino came after them.

Mikoto is dense AF. Specifically, Shokuhou lowkey grew attached to her. Because of the two other girls, Mikoto was just slightly less batshit murder crazy than Mugino.

After they reached a certain point in their development, the researchers let them mingle with the outside world. Everyone went off on their own, and Shokuhou never spoke up about wanting to stay with Mikoto.

Mikoto enrolled in the same university and met Kuroko. Idk the details of the start of their friendship and I probably won't until the current Railgun manga hashes out their relationship, but let's just say they became good friends.

Kuroko comes from a wealthy family and is trying to pursue a career in law.

Kuroko also introduces Mikoto to her friends Saten and Uiharu.

Their friendship becomes strained when Mikoto learns about this AU's equivalent of the Level 6 Shift. Her first meeting with Accelerator went... bad.

Basically, parried and countered her strongest attack so fast and effortlessly that Mikoto didn't even realize she was knocked into a coma for a week until she woke up.

She does a similar strategy as canon and tries to destroy all the research facilities involved in it, but she's frequently intercepted by Accelerator himself.

Idk how the project gets stopped honestly. Maybe some teamup with Kakine (because he's so damn petty).

But Mikoto is arrested for property damage and all sorts of other things, and doesn't explain the situation to Kuroko (a junior officer on the case).

Shokuhou bails Mikoto out of jail and finally confesses her old repressed feelings.

Mikoto decides to leave Japan with Misaka 10032.

Did I just Kogami Shinya-fy Mikoto? Yes.

She'll be back 7 years later. Shit happens between Shokuhou and Kuroko. I'll think about this later.

PFFFFFFT WAIT REALLY?! Listen hurt/comfort is my fav trope, I CAN KEEP GOING. NO LIES. Alright then here's another one! I think KuzuKomaHina would be interesting here, but if you're not comfortable with that then just Komahina is also great! (I'm a multishipper and my pain is immense. Gotta spread the love.) This could be either Non-despair...or Pre-despair depending on how much you wanna kill people. Heehee.

Hinata and Izuru are twins and both go to Hope's Peak, Izuru in the main course and Hinata in the reserve course. Hinata meets Izuru's hell class and they all warm up to him eventually, plus they feel bad for him. Izuru's an overgrown cat and Hinata's basically his babysitter, god bless his soul. Everything's somewhat hunky dory, because that Reserve vs Main course divide creates enough tension to be a problem. Then main class 78 is assembled, and Junko's batshit crazy and ready to drum up despair.

She still decides to try and break class 77, throw suspicion off of her and Mukuro, but there aren't any obvious cracks to be exploited within the class...until she sees the bonds they've all made with Hinata, Natsumi, and Sato. So Junko starts doing her despair schtick with those three, but mainly Hinata. I mean, mentally breaking the brother of the Ultimate Hope AND the boyfriend of one or two of the Ultimate Hope's classmates AT THE SAME TIME? That's the best first round of despair you can get, so Junko goes hard and all-in from the get-go with Hinata. She also starts with Natsumi and Sato, because their past is ROUGH and a great second round of despair for class 77.

But Hinata is her main focus. And when Hinata starts acting weird, class 77 don't know what's going on. Whether they figure out and save Hinata from Junko's plan or fall to Junko's game one by one is up to you...

multishipping is where it’s AT babeeey. i ship both hajime and fuyuhiko with ANYBODY that makes them happy, that’s it that’s my thing. and i like komahina. i like kuzuhina. kuzukomahina? that sounds IDEAL.

but oh man i love hajime and izuru being brothers? like, so much? and hajime as an honorary/adopted member of class 77b? my FRIEND this is too good.

izuru is 100% the first to notice what’s up. he lives with hajime, sees him all the fucking time, and on top of everything is the ultimate Everything. he doesn’t know WHAT’S up with hajime, but he does notice that hajime’s colder and spending less time with everybody. he blows off fuyuhiko and nagito (and they both take it VERY differently. nagito’s like “ah, it seems I’m not even good enough for a reserve course student, I am a bug!” and fuyuhiko is pissed off and basically yells at izuru to get his fucking brother in check), but then when they do see him he’s all weird and shit both fuyuhiko and nagito start hatching a plan to figure out what’s going on. izuru is in on it, because that’s his brother and he hates not knowing shit.

so uh, basically they start stalking hajime. they follow him around, take notes, like if this wasn’t his boyfriends and his brother this would be creepy as shit. slowly people start to ask where hajime is, or what’s up with him because like... dude’s usually one of the nicest motherfuckers out there and he’s gotten really fucking blunt recently. hell, sometimes he even gets mean, agreeing with nagito about him being worthless, that kinda shit and that’s when everybody really notices something is UP.

it ends up essentially becoming a class-wide thing, where they all report back to either izuru, nagito or fuyuhiko after seeing hajime. izuru is kinda the brains here, taking all the information he can get and analysing it, but it’s nothing he’s seen before ever.

and then one day, everybody’s wandering around the school grounds, and finds the stairway. when the walk through there, which is hajime’s idea, he disappears. like, off the face of the earth. it basically runs the same way as in the anime when chiaki is captured by junko, but instead he’s there willingly to show everybody he loves this beautiful thing called despair. he knows he’s going to die, and he loves it.

as shown previously though, izuru can’t be kept in one place if he doesn’t want to be there. ultimate escape artist who? anyway, when he hears junko’s voice, he knows what the fuck is up, he knows some shit’s about to go down if they don’t intervene immediately. the man manages to get them out of there, and starts running. everybody’s running with him (except for teruteru who’s complaining that he’s too short to go as fast as everybody else lmao). unfortunately, this is not anime izuru and he doesn’t know the layout of the place, but he does remember exactly where hajime disappeared and uses that to help him.

when they do find hajime, he’s basically bleeding out and he’s fucking pleased about it. he starts saying a load of really mean shit to fuyuhiko and nagito, how he hates them and shit, and it’s taking everything for fuyuhiko not to just deck him. yeah he’s dying, but he’s also being a massive douche?

most of the class carry hajime to the nurse’s office, so that mikan can stabilise him. izuru, nagito and fuyuhiko absolutely have more business in this building. using some logic that i am too tired to figure out because it’s nearly 6 in the morning rn they find junko, who blames mukuro entirely for everything going wrong. it isn’t mukuro’s fault, but that’s not the point here at all. she’s got the brainwashing video ready anyway, and starts going to play it when nagito just fuckin tackles her. this scrawy twink literally throws himself at junko at full force. fuyuhiko is restraining mukuro and izuru stops the video from playing.

back with hajime, when they were transporting him back to somewhere that he can be treated properly, juzo probably saw them and went in to try and find junko because they’ve got their whole thing. he walks in to find a skinny twink and a shortass restraining the Ultimate Despairs, and the human embodiment of a cat fucking with a brainwashing video. it would be hilarious if a student didn’t nearly just die.

either way, hajime gets stabilised but he’s still Royally Fucked Up and has to be basically restrained to stop him from trying to get back to Junko. Junko and Mukuro get fucking arrested (this will later cause media uproar because everybody loves Junko, but that’s not the focus here), and Izuru has to come up with a way to fix his brother.

I’m gonna leave that here because I need fukin SLEEP and maybe come back to it when I’m less dead but i am a sucker for a happy ending after a load of angst so for now ya get a happy(ish) ending, with everybody alive! for now!

I had no idea you were into it, how are you liking it so far, assuming you're still playing? who are your favorite dr2 characters (besides the in/famous komaeda haha. Yes I have played the first and second games all the way through now! I started the third one, but it wasn't working well on my PC so I haven't been able to get very far into it yet.

I apparently have pretty unpopular Danganronpa opinions according to the two people in this fandom I discuss it with, though? 😆 And I feel bad because though I enjoy them I never think I have too much interesting stuff to say about the games, either. I haven't looked into the fandom for DR at all, so I have basically zero influence from that or idea about what the general consensus is from everyone else. I actually like the characters and the plot from the first game best so far, and my favourites in that one were Junko, Byakuya, Ishimaru, Naegi and Kyoko! I had the most feels over Ishimaru's death, he annoyed me at first but then he grew on me a lot.

In the second game I liked Komaeda the best just because he was SO WEIRD and I never knew wtf was going on with him at all 😆 Though I imagine if I had played it in English instead of Japanese I might have hated him more, because I really don't like his English voice much. Also was a fan of Hajime and Chiaki, and I thought that Fuyuhiko and Peko had the best story with the most complexity and feels! I also thought Monomi had a cute voice and felt bad for her almost all the time 😭 I was surprised that I was as excited to see "Byakuya" again as a familiar face at the beginning as I was, though a bit confused by the rapid weight gain. I did not expect the twist that you find out about him later on at all, hahaha.

I know most of the story now because I kinda spoiled the plot for the third game for myself already, but I still plan to finish it off when I can get my new PC all set up right! The third game seems to have such a different vibe to it, very dark and atmospheric and seems like higher budget or something? Still haven't even got to the first trial yet though!

chapter three has me hyped so im posting theories for Hyper! Danganronpa H20

major spoilers for DR1, DR2, DRV3, and HDRH20 under the cut

• Caesar might be the SHSL Assassin / Spy / Anything similar. Or perhaps have a talent similar to that of Victoria Hester

- His birthday is veteran’s day which could hint to him having some affiliation with the Army / Navy / Air force / ETC. - It says he enjoys eavesdropping with would be beneficial for a spy. - He specializes in fading into the background with could also be beneficial for both a spy and an assassin - He likes precision which would be helpful if he had a talent similar to Victoria as in he’s the captain of some branch of the army or something similar. Precision would also make sense for an assassin because he would want precision when killing a target.

This one is probably far fetched but im desperate to know what his talent is and this is all i could come up with

nesxt one • Hunter Rosenhall could be the chapter three killer or have been helping the killer Really the only piece of evidence I have for this one is that he was the only one who knew that Maya was going to go apologize to Four that night. The thing is, she didn’t get attacked the night she said she would apologize. She got attacked the next morning when she went to apologize again. The only reason im saying this theory is because at the time of writing this i have no clue who else the killer could be.

This next one is less of a theory and more of my predictions. Chapter 1-3 victims are already confirmed and so are the 1-2 killers so im starting with the chapter 3 killer. Really the only ones I have any  real evidence for are the survivors, the ch3 killer, and the mastermind.

CH3 K - Hunter Rosenhall (might also be Tamako Fujiwara since she was already collecting blood from Chet.) CH4 V - No clue but if Tamako turns out to be the ch3 killer im saying Hunter dies ch4 because the buff bros (Sakura, Nekomaru, Gonta) always die ch4. CH4 M - Same as above but I think Oliver might also play a part in chapter four CH5 V - Kouji Ito (He reminds me of Komeada. That is all.) CH5 M - Four Kaiden (She kinda plays the same role Chiaki played as in she’s the main helper of the protag after the previous side protag either goes batshit crazy or dies and chiaki did... that. Hunter also plays this role, but I predict he’s going to die earlier so ye) MM - Ash Sivale ( ok we’re going back to the character page. Unfortunately his birthday doesn’t hint to anything but his bday is national ice cream sandwich day so it’s not that bad. Anyways, one thing is that he specializes in manipulation. Junko seemed very manipulative of people, including her sister, the warriors of hope, and mainly the DR1 students. That’s honestly all I have.)

Survivors : Victoria Hester, Maya Canzanilla, and Caesar With Victoria the reason I say she might be a survivor is because she already has a high kill count and most would suspect her as the killer. One thing I noticed with the DR series is that those with the most obvious talents or reasons to kill (Touko as the SHSL Murderous Fiend, Fuyuhiko as the SHSL Yakuza, and Maki as the SHSL Assassin) are usually survivors. Touko, Fuyuhiko, and Maki all survived so I’d say that Victoria will survive as well. The reason is the same for Caesar but only because of my theory of him being an assassin / spy / captain of an army branch. For Maya It’s really just because she’s the protag. I know that this isn’t a very good reason since you-know-who died in V3 but yknow.

One thing is that there’s still one character left, which is Leona, so my idea is

1 - Two masterminds (unlikely) 2 - Two people die in another chapter besides chapter 3 or 3 - There’s four survivors Honestly I’m not sure which one it is. I think it’s most likely going to be number 3 but I would be hyped it if turns out there’s gonna be an extra death. Maybe the mastermind kills someone?  All in all i’m very excited about the rest of Hyper Danganronpa H20 and I just wanted to share my theories.

junko and noburu (do not separate) : they are michi's siblings and together they are 3 of the former 7 Beast Tengu of inazuma, they were protective spirits who traditionally take on human forms thru magic puppets made by an old alchemist who was friends with the electro archon back then, the Beast Tengu each have different cycles of life and there is a successor system that works as a marking for said cycles, when an old tengu has fulfilled their duty the puppet splits and transforms into their successor and their duty is to train them for their own duty until they're ready and the puppet fully becomes the successor, the Tengu are only powerful spirits bound to these vessels and the successor process is similar to transferring a new soul into a new puppet. The Tengus are bound by the duty they chose to fulfill and a material thing (object or person) called the Heart of the Tengu which upon destroying would completely cease their cycle of life. The seven Beast Tengu all have an animal assigned to them : The Tengu of power represented by the tiger, the Tengu of knowledge represented by the snake, the Tengu of strength represented by the boar, the Tengu of loyalty represented by the dog, the Tengu of memory represented by the fox (ironic yes but that's why michi loses his memory it's a thing for them), the Tengu of cunning represented by the rabbit and the Tengu of generosity represented by the crane. 5he puppet are also completely fused with the spirit after the soul transfer is complete so the reason why michi has such severe memory loss is because of his missing arm. Missing arm that was torn away by Junko :). Junko is the current dog tengu and he works alongside Noburu, who is the current snake tengu, to complete dangerous commissions from the fatui and inazuman gangs that usually involve violence and often murder. Michi and these two are technically siblings and can sense each other, they also were very close during their childhood as the current older (now disappeared) tiger tengu had a habit of always making them play together back when these 3's predecessors' were still alive. Junko's personality is very impulsive and he tends to act on his emotions and especially repressed agression a lot by fault of not knowing any better, he was the first one to go against his fate as tengu despite being the youngest of the 3 because he deemed that inazuma didn't need them as much and wanted to make his own choices. Although he fan seem a bit agressive he does have a caring side that mainly shows in how much he looks out for and trusts noburu. He also feels extremely bad about what he did to michi out of anger (tried to convince him to abandon his duty and bind to a new heart to live free with them but they ended up fighting). Noburu appears to be the more rational one of the three and is extremely knowledgeable on all matters of teyvat, the only thing out of his grasp is things regarding archons really. He actually has a lot of trouble displaying any emotion unless they're particularly strong which makes it seem like he doesn't care about a lot of things (that paired with the logical thinking) but junko knows that's not the case <:,), and noburu lets lose when they're out doing their work and tends to go a bit batshit crazy during the beating up too, junko is a pyro polearm but his elemental skill would be like childe where its another weapon and in this case it would be a catalyst and noburu is a cryo polearm (except it looks like a scythe)

Adelaide "Ada" for short : an old friend of sirius :,], she was a princess who wanted to be a knight of mondstadt during the darker times when it was still a twisted monarchy, I've yet to read up on the lore from that time so I can't say much but basically she instigated the idea of revolution that will later inspire the nameless bard except she got caught and was executed (decapitated to be precise), sirius used their ancient magic to bring her back to life eventually and so she helped the actual revolution that we know of in game (the one venti talks about), after that she helped from the side to build back mond from the ground up and now works as a knight of favonius alongside her gf Eula <:,) (who sirius doesn't really like but oh well), she has an electro vision and her weapon of choice is something she made herself, its originally an umbrella that can transform into a rapière and a bow

A CHARACTER ANALYSIS ON KOMAEDA NAGITO. ↳ originally posted on instagram in 2014, transcribed and revised to post on tumblr three years later. enjoy.

everyone sit the fuck down because i’m going to refute some komaeda attributes some people in the fandom think he has. (this was going to be some ic thing but my voice would influence the writing. in other words, it wouldn’t sound like komaeda.) because i’m sO DONE WITH HIS MISCHARACTERIZATION.

MAJOR SPOILER ALERT, if that wasn’t obvious.

first, however, let’s get a clearer understanding of komaeda nagito as a character (and believe me, there’s a whole lot of shit about him).

komaeda nagito’s been through a lot of shit. his life seems to be an example of extreme good luck and extreme bad luck. for example, his parents died in front of him in a plane crash, but he survived and gained all the inheritance. this ‘luck cycle’ has controlled his life for a while. because of the good luck negating bad luck and vice versa, komaeda has lost hope in himself and his future.

did i also mention he has two illnesses? frontotemporal dementia (ftd) and lymphoma. lymphoma is a cancer of the blood cells. ftd is a degeneration of the brain, leading to severe behavioral changes. knowing that komaeda has these two illnesses makes it clear that he doesn’t have long to live, not like the others.

from there, we can assume his emotional detachment started from this luck cycle. komaeda hasn’t been attached to anything/anyone and tends to keep is distance. however, he does want someone to actually care about him. he appreciates hinata hajime for being the first person who seemed to care about him and tried to understand him. (in dangan island, komaeda canonically says: “i’ve finally realized what i wanted all along: somebody’s love,” in reference to hinata.)

however, this vulnerable and ‘true’ side of komaeda is carefully hidden away by his worldview. komaeda’s worldview is that hope is an absolute good that will triumph over everything. he’s not, however, the complete opposite of enoshima junko, the embodiment of despair, in this case. komaeda doesn’t have a fetish for hope, just as enoshima shows for despair. back to what i said earlier, komaeda has lost his own hope-- but he ultimately believes that hope will still triumph and rescue him from his situation. and for that reason, hope has become more of komaeda’s emotional crutch. hope’s peak academy embodies this belief of ‘hope,’ as the academy is a congregation of the world’s most talented individuals to create the greatest hope that there is. komaeda would have been overjoyed just by being with what he considered to be ‘symbols of hope.’

to summarize this so far, komaeda nagito is an individual who has been through a lot of things. because of these things, he wears his worldview like armor to protect himself from the world. his true beliefs are in there somewhere, though!

anyway, time to talk about misconceptions. let me list off some of them:

komaeda has self-esteem issues

yandere/has insane love for hinata

masochist

insane in general for no good reason

allow me to prove these claims wrong (but with masochism i guess you can make your own kinky nsfw sex headcanons about that whatever).

self-esteem issues; compare his self-deprecation to, say, tsumiki mikan’s. tsumiki’s self-deprecation is very much real and heavily influenced by her past experiences being bullied and put down. even though komaeda puts himself down just as often, it’s often more of a dry tone than anything. it’s clear to see that he has confidence in his own abilities, shown when he guides the player (hinata) to logical conclusions during trials in the game, especially during the second and third trials where he barely knew the events of what was happening, yet was still able to piece the puzzle together. also, why would he have manipulated and controlled the entire situation in chapter 5 if he wasn’t confident in his abilities?

yandere; his illnesses make him delusional, and he does seem to harbor a little more than friendly feelings for hinata, but under no context would that imply an insane love for him, considering komaeda’s personality and ‘worldview armor’ concept. in his final free time event, he realizes his feelings for hinata and quickly backs away and closes himself off again-- but why is that? because all he’s known to do his whole life is to be emotionally detached from people. he doesn’t know what to do. this doesn’t sound like a yandere with an insane love to me.

masochist; komaeda would be okay with pain or whatever if he believed that it was for a good cause, but he would hate to be submissive and completely powerless. even though he puts himself down, he doesn’t like it when others make him powerless and humiliate him. chapter 2 is the biggest evidence for this. when he was almost gagged by the other inhabitants of dangan island, he harshly refused it. he didn’t want to be gagged because that would render him completely useless for the rest of the chapter. he later on manipulates koizumi mahiru into playing the game, showing that komaeda still wants and achieves some form of control in a situation where he doesn’t have much control and power to work with.

just batshit crazy; i mentioned ftd earlier, yes? then i also mentioned that people with ftd experience behavioral changes, and komaeda is no exception. he wouldn’t act just for shits and giggles, because of ‘no reason’ or just because ‘it seems fun.’ even if he didn’t care about what happened to everyone else, his worldview on him everything he could in his power to pave the way for hope would make him believe that he’s doing the right thing. (yeah, like him manipulating hanamura teruteru into murder in chapter 1 was just so he could pull the rug out from the other students. dude, he even said he wanted to just manipulate someone into starting the killing game, or doing it himself if no one else was willing to do so.) most justification for komaeda’s action falls back on not the sheer insanity of his persona, but because of his emotional hope crutch.

i could go on about other misconceptions and even go biased and talk about why komaeda’s my favorite character but i’m sure no one’s read this far i think i’ve fried my brain on this. if you object to anything or if i’m making weak arguments, please speak freely.
