➜ Summary: It isn't hard to be a pâtisserie chef, but it's not a piece of cake either. It seems like for you in particular, life keeps throwing in one wrench after another. It always finds ways to make your sweets bitter. The cherry on top is Jeon Jungkook — a rival with a sensitive sweet tooth who always finds ways to complain about you.
cr.
You love baking.
It’s what got you through the years of high school, through your grandparent’s passing and when home wasn’t the refuge you wanted it to be. For a long time, baking was the only real interest you had. And for great reasons too. It was magic and every time you stepped into the kitchen, you felt like a magician, pouring ingredients in, mixing to get an instant product. It’s chemistry with a sweet result. Something you can share with others. And that passion has only deepened over time. You love baking desserts, pastries, cakes, tarts, everything. Even things with chocolate, no matter how hard it is to master them. But fuck. Lemon meringue pie is an absolute bitch. “The pie filing is a bit watery.” The teacher places her tasting fork down. “Not too bad, but lots of room for improvement, you two. Watch that starch.” You and Jungkook sigh. This was your second attempt too. You swear this dessert is a nightmare in disguise and here to ruin your career. Taehyung notices the gloomy atmosphere bogging you and Jungkook down. He slides up to your counter after the teacher goes to judge the next pair that have finished. “Can I get a taste?” “Knock yourself out.” The boy beside you pushes the sad pie over to him. Taehyung eats, tasting it thoughtfully on his palate, and hums. “The crust is a bit soggy, huh?” “I don’t get what we did wrong,” you mutter. At least this was just practice and not a time-constricted examination. But so much for picking Jungkook as your partner. You thought he was the most competent baker in this class and thus the most worthy to bake with you. But maybe you gave him too much credit. “Well, there could be a number of things you did wrong. Maybe you boiled your cornstarch for too long or at too high of a temperature. When did you add in the lemon? The acidity might’ve destroyed your cornstarch’s ability to stay thick,” Taehyung points out, suddenly an expert on pies. “Also did you make sure the lemon filing was hot before you spread the meringue? That might be your issue as to why the filing is a watery mess. Try again, guys. Maybe you’ll succeed next time.” “What the fuck.” Jungkook has his brows furrowed, eyes narrowed into slits. Like you, he’s baffled. He doesn’t even process it and is unable to think of a comeback to Taehyung’s condescending tone. Taehyung is an idiot. Usually. Since when did he know better than the two best people in class? “Want a taste of ours?” A huskier voice sounds behind Taehyung. The brunette moves aside and you find Yoongi at the counter beside yours, a smirk plastered on his face. He sets down his lemon meringue pie. It looks similar to yours. “Sure.” You wonder what their pie’s issue is. But as you dig into the slice they cut and put it on your tongue, there’s an explosion of flavour. Their crust is buttery and crispy, meringue fluffy on your tongue and soft. The filling is sweet yet balanced with a citrus sharpness to the flavour. You almost cream your pants as you swallow. Your mouth is watering for another lick, but you have too much dignity and pride to do so. Unfortunately, Jungkook can’t hide his expression as well as you can. “Good, right?” Both Taehyung and Yoongi are wearing shit eating grins, obviously relishing in your reactions. “The teacher said it was the best she’s tasted in a long time. Asked us if we cheated and bought it at a bakery.” “This’ll probably be our last attempt.” Yoongi hums, crossing his arms. “Probably don’t need to try again. She said she’d give it an A anyway, and you can’t really get any better than that.” You take a deep breath and grab Jungkook by the shoulder to drag him back to the counter with as much dignity as you have left. // The scent of lemon is stuck to your skin permanently. Even with a change of clothes and your apron stuffed in your locker, you can still smell the damn thing when you’re miles away from the kitchen. “Can you smell that or am I going crazy?” “No.” Jungkook already knows what you’re talking about. “I can smell it too.” “God.” You bang on the door and Jimin opens it. “Hey, Chim.” “Hey, guys.” The two of you step inside where the others have already gotten started, playing Super Smash on the TV with Yoongi and Taehyung battling against one another. It’s not an unusual sight, but what makes you stop in your tracks is that— “Aeri?” Your friend is seated on the couch with Hoseok’s arm looped around her casually. “Hey.” She greets you with a shy smile. You nod, rather impressed at this new development. “I didn’t know you’d be here.” “I didn’t either,” she admits and Hoseok grins at you. You throw your bag down while Jungkook flops beside Yoongi, taking a controller to join in. “Gonna play?” Jimin asks, about to hand you a controller too but you shake your head. “Nah. Not yet. I’m starving.” You pat your stomach and walk to the kitchen, ready to raid the fridge of whatever it has. “Don’t eat the meringue pie!” Yoongi shouts after you. “Fuck you,” you spit without looking back. “I wouldn’t even if you paid me to.” Now that’s one huge lie. But you still have your pride to hold onto. “Let me join you.” Aeri gets up and scrambles from Hoseok’s arm much to his dismay. You hum, peeking into the fridge and purposely overlooking the beautiful, godly pie in the middle. Min Yoongi must’ve placed it there to mock you on purpose. That fucker would. But you aren’t swayed and you grab the jars of peanut butter and strawberry jam as well as the stale bread. You place the ingredients on the counter to slap a sandwich together. In the meanwhile, Aeri lingers on the other side of the island. “How was your day?” she asks. “Good,” you answer and don’t beat around the bush— “So you’re dating Jung?” She coughs, sputters, caught off guard by your question. “Well…..I-I don’t know.” You loll your head to the side, giving her a look, and the blush on her cheeks deepen in hue. “Maybe? I don’t know…..it’s...kind of my first time….” “Being in a relationship? Yeah, I get it.” You smile reminiscently. Even if you’ve lost a comrade to the curse called love, you can’t feel bitter about it. You know what it’s like — the excitement, butterflies, nervousness, how every touch got your heart racing into what you thought would put you into cardiac arrest. The innocence of a first love can never be repeated. “Do you like him?” “Y-Yeah. I think so.” Aeri struggles to explain how she feels and makes wild gestures without realizing. “Every time I see him and every time he’s gone….I...I….” “You miss him.” The girl in the sweater nods and tugs on her sleeves self-consciously. “Sometimes I get really anxious that I’m doing something wrong and other times I’m so happy.” “Yeah, that’s how it goes. Love’s a crazy thing, huh?” You spread the peanut butter on one side of the bread. “Fucks with your brain real bad.” “It does,” Aeri agrees sheepishly. “And I don’t like being out of control with my feelings, but I think….it’s worth it.” “I’m jealous.” The words come out before you can stop it, but then you reel back and you laugh it off, slapping both halves of your sandwich together. “Not really. I’m kidding. Anyway, take it slow and you’ll be fine. Hoseok’s a good guy. You have nothing to worry about.” “Yeah, I know.” She grins, rocking back from her heel to her toes, beaming with joy. “And if he ever hurts you, tell me.” You slam the butter knife you have in hand onto the counter and it makes her jolt in surprise. “I’ll kill him.” Giggles bubble out of Aeri's throat. They diminish as you finish making your sandwich, tossing your tools into the sink. But she doesn’t easily let go of the slight envy you had accidentally expressed. “You’re doing okay, right, Y/N?” “Things couldn’t be better,” you assure with a grin. Except that’s a lie too. The both of you arrive back to the living room and your ears perk, catching wind of a husky voice, “—pie is good enough to win the competition, guaranteed, so that’s why we signed up.” If there was one thing in your life that could be better, it would be Min Yoongi and Kim Taehyung’s humbleness or rather, lack thereof. “Are you still talking about your pie, Yoongi?” You scoff, flopping down to the couch, and eyeing him with a cocked brow. Aeri slides back beside Hoseok in the meanwhile and the dark-haired man is visibly happy to have her return to his side, arm coming to drape the back of the couch again. “You have no other accomplishments to rave about?” “At least I have one.” “It wasn’t even that good,” you tell the rest of them just for the record. But Yoongi audibly scoffs. “Really? Because it looked like Kook here was about to start crying.” “Jungkook always looks like he’s about to cry when he’s put on the spot.” Your kitchen partner turns his head away from the screen towards you. “Excuse me?” “Just admit it,” Taehyung eggs you on to further irritate you. “Our lemon meringue pie was the best thing you’ve ever tasted and that we’re going to crush the other teams.” “After we pick up that five hundred dollar prize, I might as well retire.” Yoongi stretches out his muscles with a small smirk. “I finally found the product I can sell for the rest of my life.” “Gordon Ramsay would probably put it on his menu to serve,” Taehyung says to his partner who shrugs nonchalantly. “I wouldn’t be surprised.” You whirl your head to the other people in the room to see if they’re hearing this like you are. Both Jimin and Aeri are sheepish and shrug at you, not knowing what to say. Hoseok grins, enjoying the back and forth. But you know that look on Jungkook’s face, the expression he exchanges with you. The two of you are pissed off at their cockiness. Hoseok notices and decides to throw gasoline into the fire. “Was it really that good?” “You can try it if you want. It’s still in the fridge.” The corner of Yoongi’s lips curl. “But it’s better than Y/N and Jungkook’s, that’s for sure.” “A lot better than theirs,” Taehyung says in a matter of fact way. “Theirs was sad, the filing and crust soggy. The meringue was weeping too. What a shame.” “Can’t blame them,” Yoongi adds as he leans back into the couch, spreading his thighs like he owns the damn place. Which he does. But that’s not the point. “Lemon meringue is hard to make. Only the best. Excellent. Competent. Most talented can bake it.” “That’s right,” Taehyung agrees. A muscle in your cheek twitches. Your jaw clamps. That’s enough for you to snap. “Jungkook and I are competing too.” Your partner looks away from the game and quirks a brow. “We are?” “Yeah.” Your eyes flicker from him back to the grinning duo. “So we’ll see who the best really is.” // It hindsight, it was a bad, bad decision made on impulse. The baking competition was taking place on a Sunday at school with four teams already signed up, including Taehyung and Yoongi. The competition itself isn’t too shabby, especially considering that the five hundred dollar prize is a great incentive. The problem is you and Jungkook haven’t prepared anything whatsoever. And it’s a problem that explains why most students don’t do bake-offs — sometimes it’s more effort than it’s worth. The pair of you haven’t decided anything. You both haven’t practiced. “Are you sure this is a good idea?” Jungkook asks, standing in front of the bulletin board with all the details of said competition happening within the next few days. “Come on, Jeon!” You try to ignore your own doubts by firing him up, plopping a hand on his shoulder. “We have our pride and our dignity on the line.” “I’ve never had too much dignity to begin with,” he mutters. “Are you really going to let Yoongi and Taehyung tell you that they’re more competent than you?” Jeon Jungkook scoffs, his competitiveness being poked at. “Yoongi can’t pipe for shit and the only thing Taehyung can bake is bread.” “Exactly.” He nods and together, the two of you sign your names on the sheet, bracing for whatever is to come.
The day of the competition arrives sooner than expected. You’ve gathered at an open kitchen with all your friends watching on the risers at the sidelines, and two of those most annoying idiots are at the counter beside you. There are ninety minutes on the clock and three teachers you know seated at the front with bright smiles. Mrs. Pham is nodding her head, Mr. Chu looking around while Miss. Kang coming forward with a microphone. Something that should be a friendly contest has you, Jungkook, Taehyung, and Yoongi oozing an intense competitiveness that has the other three teams scared. “Alright folks, when the timer begins, you can begin and get whatever ingredients you need from the pantry. Remember, you will be judged on taste, presentation and creativity equally! Try your hardest and have good sportsmanship!” “Ready?” You lean in to whisper to Jungkook, eyes meeting his and he nods sternly. “Is everyone ready?” Miss Kang lifts her arm and on three counts, grins. “Go!” The timer begins and Jungkook books it to the pantry with Taehyung is hot on his tail. In the meanwhile, you preheat the oven to four hundred degrees fahrenheit and grease two baking sheets that are already at your counter. Jungkook ends up coming back sweaty but with a basket of things you need and doesn’t seem to be missing anything. “Nice.” “Course, I have it all up here.” He mischievously taps his temple, making you lightly scoff. “Hand me the—” Before you can finish your sentence, Jungkook slides the butter across the countertop and you catch it. “I got you.” The boy in the white apron winks, making you roll your eyes. You combine one cup of butter and two cups of water in a large saucepan, putting it over medium heat. At the same time, Jungkook works in sync with you and gets two cups of flour prepared with a half teaspoon of salt. Right when the butter finishes melting, you remove it from the heat and whisk in the flour and salt. He puts the egg carton beside you and begins to chop the semi-sweet chocolate he had gotten from the pantry. Beside you, Yoongi and Taehyung have fallen into a rhythm as well. They shout calmly at one another, as calm as shouting can be. You know they’re not to be underestimated, but it’s comforting to know that you don’t need to win — you just need to beat Yoongi and Taehyung. Miss. Kang approaches the pair of them. “What are you two doing here? Ooh, Yoongi, looks like you’re making pie crust and Taehyung you’re making working on some filing?” “It’s lemon meringue pie,” Taehyung says with a grin, flickering his eyes up. The teacher is genuinely impressed. “A classic, but one with great difficulty to master. I’m excited to taste it. Are you nervous at all?” “Not really,” he responds. “Our pie is the best.” “I am loving that confidence, you two. Keep it up!” She continues around and as you’re working, you hear the team behind you are making rhubarb cherry pie. Another team is working on mocha truffle cheesecake and the last, a duo diagonal to you, is baking blueberry bread pudding. It seems like everyone has a solid plan, but you don’t dwell or pay too much mind. You focus on beating the eggs into the mixture one at a time until the batter is smooth. “What a lovely sight to see, Jungkook and Y/N!” Miss. Kang is ecstatic to see the two of you working together. Especially when she was the one who paired you both to the internship happening in two months while being completely aware of the bitter feud that was going on back then. “And what are you two making today on this beautiful afternoon?” “We’re making croquembouche,” Jungkook says with a smile as he finishes chopping his chocolate. His announcement seems to get the attention of the other contestants, Yoongi and Taehyung whipping up their heads to look as well. The teacher is taken aback. “And you’re making that in an hour and a half?” “That’s the plan.” Jungkook grins with that bunny smile of his, channeling that Jeon charm of that almost has you rolling your eyes yet again. “It will be very impressive if you two can pull it off. Well, good luck!” Miss. Kang walks another round before waltzing back to where Mrs. Pham and Mr. Chu are waiting. She must murmur something to them because their eyes suddenly widen and they look over at your station. Jungkook works on spooning the choux dough into twenty four small rounds on each baking sheet and once it’s in the oven, the timer sets for half an hour. “It’s in.” “Good.” Quickly, you wash the raspberries and leave them to dry before preparing the caramel mixture. You pour the sugar into a saucepan and then add two thirds cup of water, allowing sugar to boil and you move to prepare the ice water. Jungkook, on the other hand, heats the one cup of heavy whipping cream until it shimmers and pours chocolate over it. He stirs until it’s all melted and lets it sit to return to room temperature after sprinkling in coarse sea salt. Once the choux is golden brown, it’s out of the oven and both you and Jungkook work side by side to pipe the ganache into the choux. “Twenty minutes left everyone!” Mrs. Pham announces. “I’ll grab the caramel,” Jungkook says and you nod, going to get the serving plate. The both of you work fast. You dip the choux into the caramel and leave it on the tray for Jungkook to begin assembly. But in the midst of working, he notices your hands beginning to shake. “Hey, Y/N.” He calls you softly and your eyes flicker up. “It’s going to be okay. We’re doing well.” You nod. It’s calming to have his reassurance and you finish dipping all forty eight in while Jungkook forms them into a cone shape, towering up to your eyes. You bring over the caramel, the consistency that of syrup, and you lightly drizzle around the choux pastry puffs. The thin threads of caramel wrap around the dessert, gold and glistening in the light. Jungkook’s brows furrow, placing the raspberries between them in the last few remaining seconds. “Here.” You help him. “Ten….nine….eight….seven….six….” Mr. Chu is counting down, watching the timer go off. Then it rings. “Alright folks, step away from your plates, please!” It looks like all the teams have finished on time, and the scent of baking surrounds your senses — breads, chocolates, and cooked sugar. The air is sweet. You look over and Yoongi and Taehyung are grinning. Their perfect lemon meringue pie is on their counter, exactly replicated from last time. But your eyes move back at your own dish, and you find pride blooming in your chest. The french dessert stands tall, choux pastry puffs piled into a cone shape and bound with threads of caramel wrapped around it. On the sidelines, Jimin, Aeri and Hoseok are cheering, and while you’re not sure if it’s for the other team or your own, you like to think both of you deserve it. “I think we did pretty well, if I do say so myself.” Jungkook gives you a cheeky smile, getting you to high five him. You giggle after your hands slap together. “I think so too. Ours has the best presentation that’s for sure. It’s only about taste now.” “I’m sure we’ll be fine. Well...I don’t know about your pastry, but my ganache filling is…” He does a chef’s kiss, gathering his fingertips together to kiss against them and then opening up his hand. You scoff. “Please, Jeon. If there’s any issue, it’s going to be the caramel or the ganache. My pastry is perfect. I would know. My specialty is going to be in pastries.” Jungkook grins, expression all too playful. “Okay, we’ll see then.” The three judges go around, giving a taste to all the dishes and giving compliments. As expected, their eyes bulge at Yoongi and Taehyung’s pie, and Taehyung seems to charm them too. All of them laugh, openly wondering if they somehow cheated and slipped in a pie from a gourmet bakery. “Very fluffy and crisp. Absolutely delicious.” Mr. Chu bobs his head in approval. “I’m not much of a pie person myself, but very well done.” “Thank you.” Yoongi offers a modest smile. They move on, having nice things to say about everyone with few criticisms. And when they come over to you two, they’re smiling and all the contestants pay close attention. “Now to the dessert of the hour.” “It’s incredible that the pair of you managed to make croquembouche in an hour and a half. It can take some up to four hours, so I’m very impressed over your ambition,” Miss. Kang admits, “There was a point I thought you weren’t going to make it. But you worked hard and finished it off, so well done.” “A very tedious and painstaking dessert to make,” Mrs. Pham notes. “But you both work well together if you can pull off something like this under such strict time conditions.” “Exceptional teamwork,” Mr. Chu agrees. They each take a choux from the top onto their plates with raspberries, and a bit of caramel. When they bite into the pastry, they quirk their brows in surprise. “It isn’t pastry cream?” Miss. Kang chews thoughtfully. “It’s salted ganache.” “Jungkook works well with chocolate and I work well with pastries so we decided to combine both our skills and put a twist to the usual croquembouche,” you explain. “Very creative!” “The salted ganache is also bittersweet and the choux is very crisp,” Mr. Chu says as he swallows. “Typically the choux has to be chilled in the fridge, but in spite of skipping that step, I cannot taste the difference. The raspberry is a good touch as well and not just for presentation.” Mrs. Pham nods at him. “It’s crunchy and has a good bitter note to lessen the sweetness of the caramel. It’s perfect.” “Well done, you two!” Miss. Kang grabs for another. Once they finish up, they take a step back. “We’ll take ten minutes to decide the final results!” After the announcement is made, they return to their places at the front as Yoongi and Taehyung slink over. “I’ll admit…” Yoongi ganders at your tower of pastries. “This is pretty damn extra.” “We take challenges seriously,” you chime with a grin and he smirks. “Can I have one?” Taehyung asks, fingers itching, eyes glimmering. “They made it sound so good.” “Sure.” But you stop him before he can grab one. “On one condition. I get a slice of your pie.” “Deal.” “So you admit it.” Yoongi cocks his brow, smiling. “Our pie is delicious.” “I never said it tasted bad.” You mischievously shrug. “I want a slice too,” Jungkook says as he leans over. “Or two.” Yoongi takes a choux off of your tower and grins. “Fine by me.” While Taehyung moans about how good your croquembouche tastes, the other contestants come swarming over, curious and wanting one as well. Jimin shouts from the sidelines to save him one and Jungkook hands them out. In the meanwhile, you go over with Yoongi to claim a slice of the meringue pie and get Jungkook’s before it’s all gone too. “Think you’re gonna win?” Yoongi shrugs, surprisingly not as arrogant as before. “Maybe. We’ll see.” You lightly scoff at him. “Where did that confidence go?” But the dark-haired man merely shrugs. He cuts you a piece and you don’t hesitate to dig in. Yoongi smiles when he sees you openly enjoying the pie without restraint and then his eyes travel across the room to where Jungkook is still happily handing out the pastries. “So this is what the dream team can cook up, huh?” “Dream team?” You frown. “Yeah. You and Kook,” he says it like it’s obvious. “You two are the ultimate pair. What? You’ve never heard people say that before?” “People? Who?” His shoulders bounce nonchalantly. “Classmates. Teachers. I’ve heard it a few times and it’s true. You make up for what the other person lacks and you work well together. It was easier to deal with when the two of you still hated one another, but now that the top two kids can work with each other, it sucks for the rest of us.” You burst out laughing. “You just have a lot to catch up on, Min. Don’t fall behind on me and Jeon.” “Kind of hard not to when you’re both maniacs.” Jungkook comes barrelling over for his piece of pie before you can eat it. You also try other contestants’ desserts before the judges return, making you all scramble back to your stations. “The results are in!” Miss Kang announces with a bright smile. “Everyone did exceptionally well today and it was difficult to come to a decision, but there’s a team in here today that was just exceptional and demonstrated that it’s possible to push the limits on taste, creativity, and presentation!” You look over to Jungkook and he grabs your hand, bracing for it. “Please give a round of applause to our winners—” Suddenly you’re being picked up. Jungkook has his arms wrapped around you and lifts you off your feet, swinging you around. After a second, he sets you down onto your feet again, but you’re bewildered. There are claps from the few in the audience, the contestants and teachers applauding and all staring at you and Jungkook. Aeri, Hoseok, and Jimin are on the stands cheering loudly. Yoongi is smiling while nodding in approval. Taehyung is grinning. And Jungkook places his palms to your cheeks. Your mouth forms into fish lips, face squished together, and he makes you look at him. Your dazed eyes meet his. “We won!” “We….won?” You blink. His doe eyes are glimmering like there are stars captured in his dark irises. Jungkook’s pretty — you never really thought about that before. “We. won. We won?!” You can’t believe it. But after some words of congratulations, it sinks in. “We won, you freaking idiot!” You jump on your feet and hug Jungkook again. He smells like chocolate and sugar, his apron dirty against yours, but you don’t particularly care. Not in this moment. “You’re not such an idiot, after all!” Jungkook laughs, boyish features scrunched up. You smile at him. Maybe Yoongi’s right. No. You know he is — you and Jungkook are the ultimate duo. Like two socks that make a pair, like two magnets that attach, like dumb and dumber. And you wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Hey, Jungkook!” Baekhyun approaches him in between their class break, and they fist bump each other. “I heard you won that competition with Y/N. Congrats, man.” “Thanks.” “How’s it going by the way? Haven’t seen you in a while.” The two of them are not necessarily close, but they became friends in last semester’s sanitation and safety class where they both died of boredom together. “As great as it can be with exam season coming up.” “Yeah, it’s tough.” Baekhyun sympathizes with a sigh. “Business communications is destroying me. Like I need to get at least a ninety on the finals to pass the course.” Jungkook sharply inhales. “That’s rough, dude.” “But hey, after this then it’s just our internships. That’s the only thing getting me through it. That and my girlfriend. Oh yeah, you were going to do wedding cakes, right? How do you feel about it?” “I’m still not sure,” Jungkook admits and then without thinking much, says, “The only thing getting me through it is being able to hang with Y/N.” He hasn't seen you since the competition which was two days ago, but it’s still a long time. Especially when he’s used to you plopping down beside him during breakfast, lunch or dinner — when he’s used to you banging your fist on his dorm room — when he gets texts with you whining about period cramps — when you come from nowhere and pester him till the end of the world. Jungkook’s still buzzing over the victory, but it’s been tough days one after another. The only thing that gets him through it is finally being able to see you and spend some time with you. These days Jungkook prefers being with you anyway as opposed to hanging out with Yoongi, Taehyung, Jimin, and Hoseok. They’re noisy and always worsen his headache. Sure you like to purposely egg him on and tease him, but your company is still peaceful and worthwhile. Most of the time. “So you two are finally dating?” “What? No. No, we aren’t.” Jungkook laughs it off. It’s an odd idea that still sends shivers down his spine. “Oh, okay, my bad.” Baekhyun smiles. “It’s just that I see you both hanging around together a lot and I’ve heard you talk about her a lot too.” “Yeah, we’re friends.” “So you’d be okay with it if she dated someone else?” he suddenly asks. “Uh…” Jungkook’s caught off guard, mouth opening before closing like a fish out of water. “I guess?” “You guess?” He pauses. Jungkook flashes him an odd look and Baekhyun laughs loudly, lifting his hands and backing off. “Sorry, I don’t mean to intrude or be annoying. It just reminded me of before my girlfriend and I got together.” “It was kind of hard to tell where the line of friendship and romance was and then one day I realized that friends don’t really miss each other in the way that partners do. Like when you miss them when it’s only been a short period of time, like a day or two. But anyway,” Baekhyun sing-songs, “I shouldn’t stick my nose into anywhere it belongs. I know I tend to do that and Jessica always yells at me for being rude. Oh shoot. I should get going now before I’m late. See you around?” “Y-Yeah….See you.” Baekhyun smiles and walks away, not knowing the bomb he just dropped. Jungkook’s brows furrow and he begins to dangerously wonder. He wonders if he’s supposed to miss you like this when it’s only been two full days. If he’s supposed to come to you every time something goes wrong. If he’s supposed to think of you every time there’s good news. If he’s supposed to think of you this much. Friends aren’t supposed to think about each other like this.

I know the chapter is a little shorter than promised, but that’s because it got soo freaking long that I had no choice but to split it into two. But as a result, you got a bit more Jungkook and Ella fluff, so you’re welcome. I hope you enjoy this chapter! As always please let me know your thoughts because it really does help me write!
Also thanks again so much @mindays for this rockin banner!!!!

You sighed as you took another bite of your cookie, it was delicious, but it wasn't perfect. Something about the texture felt off too you. The cookie felt homemade in the unprofessional way, not the 'grandma's classic' way Sugar Daddy always delivered.
"Jimin," you whined as you set the half-eaten dessert next to you on the counter, frowning at the cooling batch. Jimin made his way over to you, smiling as he reached for the other half.
"What is it, princess?" he asked, taking a bite and raising his eyebrows in delight.
"Don't humor me, you know I did something wrong," you grumbled. While you have overcome most of the baking learning curve your past two weeks in the kitchen, most of your baked goods being tasty enough to sell upfront (when Jimin decorated them), they were not perfect.
You were still learning your way around the chemistry it takes to make the 'perfect' cookie.
"You did, but we'll figure it out" he confessed as he shoved the rest of the baked good in his mouth before clapping his hands, "C'mon walk me through it," he ordered and you turned back to your work station with a sigh,
You both loved and hated Jimin's guidance. Loved because he was brilliant in the kitchen and caught your mistakes in a heartbeat, he was eager to teach you and rarely judged you for your incompetence. You hated it because you felt embarrassed, you were hired to do a job you weren't excelling at, and it took a hit on your ego.
Not to mention Jimin dropping everything he was doing to help you get it right was also slowing him down when opening up the bakery.
"Are you sure you have time?" you asked peeping at the clock, it was 7:45 you still had a few minutes before the bakery opens at 8. Enough to prepare one more batch of cookies to put in the oven.
"Yeah I'm good, Jungkook had a hard open this morning, I just came in a little earlier than you did so the kid could take a nap," he says with a shrug.
The bakery had two opening shifts; the 'hard open' has a report time of 4:30 am where the bakers have to prepare all the bread, breakfast pastries, and any custom orders for the day. And the soft open starts at 7 am.
Lucky for you, you hadn't proven valuable enough to qualify for the hard open just yet, and you were clinging to your mornings of sleeping in as you slowly passed through your 'new girl' phase at the bakery.
"Jungkook? Really I didn't even see him," you said surprised, certain the two of you would have crossed paths on his walk home.
But when you turned and looked at the apron hooks at by door, you saw his apron, which simply stated, Let's get this bread, was hanging front and center, confirming he had come by today.
Jimin smiled a knowing smile, "That's because he went to nap in the apartment upstairs," Jimin teased. "Now come on we have cookies to make."
You reached for the ingredients, and you and Jimin carefully measured out before turning to the mixture, "So the apartment upstairs, is that one of your safe houses?" you asked tentatively.
You were slowly, but surely introducing yourself into BTS's world the past two weeks of working here, asking Jin and Jimin and any of the other members who came by to visit tentative questions about the gang's inner workings.
Jimin grinned, amused, "Kind of, it's definitely a safe place for our members to use, but we don't put anyone up there if they're on the run. Can't risk having the place raided- it's bad for business." he added as an afterthought as you looked at him with a raised brow.
"Why else would they need a safe place?" you asked, confused on what dilemma the men you were slowly getting to know could worm their way into and not out.
"Well, Army comes from all parts of life," Jimin started with a shrug. "A lot of them join because they don't have anywhere to go, or they need a place to getaway. The apartment upstairs is for people like them, people who need to escape their homes." Jimin explained.
That was one thing you could never see to make yourself forget about BTS as much as you want to write them off as criminals and be upset with Hoseok about what he has done.
They honestly were trying to make Alcorn a better place for the forgotten. The kids who can't help but have the circumstances dictate their outcomes. Who has no way to better their resources on their own?
When Army takes the tattoo, an inversion of the inner circle's symbol, they traditionally get it placed on their forearms, but some can choose to have it on their upper arm or chest. They can also choose its size.
You met a member who had the small shape in the fleshy crook between their thumb and pointer finger, Getting the tattoo in a small place ensured that it was easy to cover or remove if they chose to leave BTS. A concept you were still trying to wrap your head around because of the series of dizzying rules that follow it.
"Well, that's your problem," Jimin laughed as he watched you distractedly sift your dry ingredients into the mixer.
"What am I using the wrong sized sifter?" you asked, confused as you looked for another tool nearby to check if there even was a size difference.
He laughed, "No, but you put your sugar in as a dry ingredient, have you been doing that this whole time?" he asked with a smile.
"Yes, why wouldn't I sugar is dry" you sad dumbfounded
"No, the sugar counts as a wet ingredient," he chided
"But it's dry its-" you couldn't form words as you tried to process what he was telling you, looking between him and the bag of sweet crystals in outrage.
He giggled at your expression, "It's treated like a wet ingredient because it's soluble it dissolves better in the liquid, making the texture softer and less gritty." You growled at his explanation, it made perfect scientific sense, but you were still infuriated by sugar being identified as the wrong physical property.
"Well what about salt is it property fluid as well?" you snapped accusingly,
Jimin couldn't help but giggle at your frustration, "No salt can go in as dry, because the cookies rely on the chemical reaction of the salt to control the rate the dough releases carbon dioxide," he explained simply.
You blinked at him expression vacant as you processed what he was saying, Jimin sighed; clearly, you didn't pay much attention in your college chemistry class. "It keeps from making giant air bubbles," he dumbed down, and your eyes lit up in understanding.
You grunted in frustration as you watched Jimin dump your dry batter out of the mixer. Before you could think to stop yourself, you reached for a handful of sugar out of the back and threw it in his face in frustration.
"Hey, what are you doing!" Jimin demanded as you pelted him with another hit
"I'm splashing you; what else would you call it" you teased as you threw another handful showering his apron, which proudly had Hot Buns embroidered across it, in the sweet crystals.
"Look at how WET you are. You're absolutely soaked," you continued as you berated him much to his distress.
"What's going on?"
You turned at the gravelly sound of Jungkook's morning voice, seeing the boy squinting in the bright light of the kitchen.
"Koo, thank goodness this insane woman was attacking me." Jimin hissed at you.
You threw one more pinch of sugar before you smiled sheepishly as you were caught in your childish antics, thankful it was Jungkook and not Jin who walked in on you blatantly making a mess of his kitchen. You looked down as you remembered your place.
"I'll grab the broom," you murmured as you moved to clean up your mess.
"I'm sure you deserved it," Jungkook told his brother as he put up a hand to stop you. Grabbing the broom from the wall himself, "I got it you go open up front Ellie" he mumbled tiredly as he began sweeping.
You smiled at him in gratitude and reached to ruffle his hair endearingly, before sticking your tongue out at Jimin, who just muttered "Unbelievable" under his breath as he turned back to his work station.
You had already started the coffee and filled up the display area when you were waiting for your cookies to bake. So you only needed to unlock the front door and add today's specials to the chalkboard menu on the counter before Sugar Daddy was in business for the day.
"Mornin' princess," you heard a tired voice mumble, and you looked up from the curling S in the word 'chicken salad' to see Yoongi in front of the counter swaying where he stood like he was at risk of falling asleep right there.
You set down the chalk as you greeted him, quickly rinsing your hands off and fixing a large iced Americano before he could even make the order himself.
"Anything for breakfast?" you asked as you handed him the cup, watching with a satisfied smile as he slipped the reusable straw you had given him a week prior. Yoogi simply grunted before taking a long sip of his drink.
"I'm good," he said with a satisfied smile, already looking more alert as the caffeine instantly revived him, there was even more color to his cheeks.
"Okay, that will be $2.75," you chirped in your best customer service voice, but your hands didn't move for the iPad that made up your register.
"Cute," Yoongi laughed before turning away with a smirk, "You got jokes, Ella, keep it up, and I might tip you one day," he called over his shoulder before letting himself out of the store. You gritted your teeth.
Your first day of handling the register by yourself, Min Yoongi came in and ordered an Americano, when you rang him up he gave you a dismissive, 'put it on my tab,' before stepping out of the growing line of the morning rush behind him. You were frantic as you searched for the setting where you could open tabs, watching in distress as Jimin quickly handed his elder the drink, and he made his way out the store, all while impatient customers tapped their foot in front of you.
"I don't know how to open a tab," you finally called to Jimin after he came to check on what the hold up was. Jimin let out a loud belly laugh amused by your distress as he closed out Yoongi's order with a simple, "He never pays."
You never got an explanation as to why or how that happened, but you do know Yoongi drinks at least 10 ten iced americanos a day. While the diluted espresso wasn't a huge financial strain, you wondered how many disposable cups Jin lost to Min Yoongi each week.
You were always a bit of an environmentalist and had taken personal responsibility to try and reduce Yoongi's waste output. He accepted your gift of a reusable compact straw he could attach to his keychain, noting it made his drink taste cooler when he sipped through it.
But you were still working on how to get him to reuse his cups. The man was unwilling to carry around a reusable one all day, claiming it was a hassle and didn't want to wash it.
Environment and economics aside, there was the whole other concern that you were fairly certain Yoongi drank more coffee than water. And you were worried his little heart was going to give out from the caffeinated strain one day.
"Cute handwriting," Jungkook whispered over your shoulder, making you startle and causing you to mess up the flower you were doodling next to the lunch special.
You pouted, sending him a small glare as he smiled sheepishly, "I'm going to get you a bell to wear around your neck, so you don't sneak up on me like that," you threatened as you smudged the haywire petal.
Jungkook smirked as he took the chalk from you, "You going to have to ask a bit more nicely if you wanna see me in a collar," he teased as he drew a perfect flower over yours. You flushed at his comments as you turned away.
You and Jungkook had gotten closer in the few weeks you had been working at the bakery. Apparently, he was grounded by his gang dad's for a situation you still didn't understand, and part of his punishment involved working opening shifts at the bakery before class.
He was starting to get more comfortable around you, and the shy bashful Jungkook you had been acquainted with two weeks prior had faded in your shared mornings kneading dough in the kitchen.
To your dismay, he had grown bold and cocky, and a never-ending pain in your ass as he wasn't afraid to joke and tease you anymore. And if you thought bashful Jungkook was dangerous, you had nothing to prepare you for his confident persona.
"I wouldn't need a bell if you stayed aware of your surroundings," he pointed out as he continued to sketch a cute kitten on the bottom of the menu.
You sighed, "It's too damn early for this Jeon," you murmured as you made your way to the coffee station, grabbing your personal mug and pouring your coffee and cream into it. Before reaching for Jungkook's to-go cup to fix his drink.
"It's always too early or too late when are we going to talk about this?" he asked, turning to face you. "I'm not going to be able to walk you home every night, ya know."
"Not even if I ask nicely," you asked over the rim of your cup, batting your eyelashes at him innocently. He scoffed, but you could see the blush creeping up his neck as you wormed your way under your skin.
"Jungkook, I've lived in Alcorn for four years now, not once has anyone got the best of me," you gave him a look that clearly said unlike you, "I'm pretty sure I'm fine," you finished as you turned back to steaming the caramel syrup into his milk.
"Things are different now," he argued.
"No, they're not, Kook I can handle my own," you sighed, growing tired of the back and forth, asking yourself why you were even making this ungrateful brats coffee.
"Ooh, are we talking about how Ella can or can not kick ass?" Jimin asked as he made his way from the kitchen with a tray full of muffins.
Your concentration broke as his outburst, and a large portion of milk plopped into Jungkook's mug, ruining the heart you were practicing in the drink. "No," you hissed in frustration, grabbing the caramel sauce to doodle a smiley face over your mistake. Jungkook smirked as he watched you work more willing to hold his tongue when his coffee was on the line.
And to your relief, the bell chimed as customers made their way in the bakery. You brushed past Jungkook, handing him his drink as you took your place at the register, effectively ending the conversation as you greeted the customer. He sighed but surrendered for now.
Jungkook has been pushing to give you self defense lessons since your first day at the bakery. While BTS made sure to keep an eye on you while investigating the Black Tips incident.
Jin got word that the men who ambushed Jungkook, were there for him in advance. And while they could assume the leek came from one of Sylvia's men if not the trafficker himself, no one has found out why Jungkook would be a target—not finding any leads from the Black Tips themselves.
Jungkook was nervous, he was used to their being a target on his back, but no one had ever had the guts to aim for it before. And while he got away that night, he hated knowing he dragged you into this mess. He couldn't stand the thought of you being in danger of helping him. He needed to know you could protect yourself if you somehow ended up on your own.
Jungkook took a quick sip of his coffee, trying to keep his face neutral despite the incense sweetness that attacked his tongue. While it was true, he favored a sweeter drink like a caramel macchiato in the afternoons; he preferred something stronger like a plain coffee with one cream and two sugars in the morning.
Not to mention the amount of syrup you used to decorate his drinks when you failed at latte art was enough to give him a cavity. Jungkook couldn't bring himself to complain, though.
He liked the gesture of you taking the effort to make him a cup every morning too much. He smiled to himself as he grabbed his backpack and headed to his morning classes.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The bakery had a steady flow of customers that morning, and the constant work kept you busy enough to keep your mind from wandering during your shift. But as you got off that afternoon to head to your classes, you couldn't help but dwell on the thoughts you tried your hardest to avoid.
It has been two weeks since you talked to Hobi.
Well really talked to him, he still sent you text every evening to check-in that you were safe, and you were guilty of doing the same if you ever heard too many police sirens or gunshots in the night.
But check in's aside this was the longest you had gone without seeing him since your friendship started.
You missed his unannounced arrivals at night where the two of you would eat junk food and put on movies only to talk over them, or when he would call you to come downstairs to help him test drive a car, and you would beg for mercy on your life as he sped down winding, back roads blasting the music so loud you felt the bass dance in your bones.
You struggled to focus on your lectures through the afternoon, before finally settling for mindlessly taking notes and hoping you could piece together the information on your own later.
You had a test in one of your classes two days from now and planned on grabbing lunch on campus and staying at the library late into the evening to prepare, but you couldn't see yourself focusing by then either.
You decided to go to the gym after your last lecture.
Your university had a free gym for students on campus, and while you frequented the cardio exercise classes like Zumba, there was nothing quite like running till you can't think anymore on the treadmill or lifting weights to clear your head. You figured getting your frustration out with your workout would help you think more clearly with how you should approach the Hoseok situation.
After your lecture let out you made your trek across campus to head to the gym; it was around 4 pm that weird hour that wasn't quite afternoon but wasn't quite evening, where students that weren't in classes didn't know what to do with themselves and usually found themselves submitting the hour to Tick Tock in the Student Union, so the gym was relatively empty.
You were a frequent rule breaker and left your gym bag in your locker between visits, despite what the signs in the locker room ask, so you always had a change of clothes for when sparattically decided to workout.
You were quickly reminded why that was a rule when you opened the door to the musty scent of your dirty work out clothes. You were obviously in need of a fresh set.
You made a mental note to bring your gym bag home and bring back a fresh set next time you came to campus as you moved for the changing areas.
You scrunched your nose at the musty smell. Before reminding yourself, you were going to stink no matter what after your workout and forced yourself into the smelly electric blue compression leggings and sports bra it was one of your favorite sets the color made it look bold despite its minimalist design. Not to mention the leggings made your ass look great.
You weren't an athlete by any means growing up, but you took advantage of the resources provided to you when you started college determined to fight off the dreaded freshman 15.
You attended several workout classes with Daewon, and outside of classes, the two of you explored a majority of the equipment in the gym, watching a number of Youtube videos for guidance, and slowly the two of you formed a baseline work out routine that you still clung to today.
You weren't a regular at the gym, there was a time in your life where you attended Zumba weekly, between your afternoon classes, but the chaos of the last month of your life robbed you of that habit too. Other than Zumba, you mostly turned to the gym when you needed a sweaty distraction or when you were avoiding your schoolwork.
Your mind viewed working out as it did cleaning; it was productive enough to excuse you from doing your work without feeling like the quitter you were. It also meant you did it the most when you had a ton of studying to do.
You secured your hair into a quick but effective braid down your back, not bothering to check how nice it looked in the mirror before heading out on the gym floor.
You stretched quickly before hopping on a treadmill telling yourself you would put in a quick mile as a warm-up, putting your headphones in and allowing your mind to surrender to the music as you got your heart rate up a little.
Nine minutes later, you were walking out your cool down as you scanned the weights area, determining what looked the least crowded so you could get started without having to interact with anyone.
You settled for taking the vacant pulley machine and worked through your usual weight routine, focusing first on your biceps and then your chest. When your arms felt like they were equal parts on fire and made of jelly, and your mind fell into that pleasant, empty haze, you had mercy on yourself and moved to wipe the machine down.
You caught a glimpse of yourself in the mirror as you cooled down, and saw your face, chest, and upper arms were a splotchy red from the strain, and a layer of sweat coated your entire body.
You knew you weren't attractive when you worked out, but you always admired yourself a bit anyways.
You were flushed, your hair was frizzing along the edge, and strands of hair escaped from your braid and stuck out wildly in all directions.
All and all, you looked like the definition of a hot mess.
But you were proud of your body for serving you well. You were more aware of the strength in the muscle under your skin, the way they swelled or bulged from your arms wasn't feminine or delicate, but you found it beautiful nonetheless.
Taking a minute to rest, you mindlessly unlocked your phone and immediately found yourself opening your messages to Hoseok out of habit.
You hadn't checked in on him in two days, and you didn't respond to his text from this afternoon. Your thumb hovered over the screen hesitantly before you finally shut it off and tucked it back in your pocket.
You still didn't know if you wanted to avoid Hoseok or hug him and makeup.
You decided you weren't tired enough if you could still think about this.
You turned the music up on your headphones in an attempt to blast out the thoughts swirling in your mind and headed for the leg press machine. You did a quick circuit targeting your quads and inner thighs on a few of the machines before making your way to the Smith machine for assisted barbell squats.
You embraced the burn in your glutes as you locked the bar back in its holder after your first rep, rolling the stiffness out of your shoulders as you counted down from thirty.
You were never good at making yourself wait or rest between reps, and because of that, you were prone to fatigue yourself faster.
You took a moment to stretch your arms across yourself and roll your neck, focusing on how the tension left your body before you moved to settle the barbell once again across your shoulders.
You spread your legs abd centered your weight, and with a quick flick of your wrist, you released the bar from its holder, dropping the full weight onto your shoulders. You let your breath sizzle through your teeth as you squatted down, taking care to keep your knees from going out past your toes, so you targeted the right muscle group.
You stared at yourself in the mirror you were facing making sure you kept the correct form when a sudden movement from behind you caught your attention.
Your eyes flicked across the mirror to lock in on the reflection of no other than Jeon Jungkook.
You let your lips turn into a slight smirk through your panting as you watched his arm come to a stuttering stop mid hammer curl as you continued your squats. You watched his eyes observe the motion of your body, ignoring the warmth in your stomach as you took him in return.
Jungkook usually wore oversized clothes on a daily basis. You couldn't understand why now that you took him in in his muscle shirt that exposed the entirety of his beautiful arms.
For the first time, you took in the full extent of the artwork that decorated his right arm. The tattoo's dark ink dotted their way up to his arm and his back shoulder. The placments were spread out enough that it wasn’t quite a full sleeve, but you were certian it would be within a few years.
You always knew Jungkook was big, you could tell by his broad shoulders and a hint of muscle you saw when he tied his apron around his tiny waist, but you didn't realize the extent of his strength.
You drank in the sight of him now, the defined lines of the his triceps and bicepts. And his toned obliques you could peek slightly from the low cut of the arm hole of his shirt.
The guy could probably bench press you if he wanted to.
You smiled to yourself as you reached 10, and pushed to lock the barbell back in its holder. You hope Jungkook didn't notice how your knees shook slightly or that you locked the bar in the clamp lower than the one you were initially using. Your trembling legs were too weak to fully extend to the one level with your shoulders.
You bide your time rolling out your shoulders as you watch him through the mirror. The punk hadn't taken his eyes off your ass yet, and you smirked as you turned to face him.
"Something catch your eye, Kook?" You called him with a saccharine smile.
He blinked in his daze before clearing his throat and stammering, "Ella, oh nothing at all. I was just checking your form."
You raised an eyebrow, trying to hide your smile as you watched the blush crawl up his cheeks.
You tried not to let the thought of Jungkook checking you out in the gym get to you head. But it totally did, and you couldn't help but tease him more, "I hope you were pleased with what you saw."
His mouth curled into a smirk as he recovered and remembered himself, "I must say I was very impressed," he offered, and you smacked his arm as you sat on the other end of the bench, watching as he resumed his rep.
"I didn't know you came here," you started, he looked at you with a raised eyebrow as if asking, have you looked at me?
You scoffed, "I meant this gym stupid. I assumed your fancy mansion had its own gym in it. Jimin told me you guys trained there."
Trained for what? You didn't know.
Jungkook placed his weight on the ground before straightening, "Oh well, I come between classes to pass the time, beats traveling across town," he explained as he rolled out his shoulders.
Right, you remember him saying something about having evening lectures on Tuesday and Thursdays.
"How long until your class?"
He smiled, "Long enough to take you upstairs and teach you a thing or two," the shock must have been apparent on your face because he quickly amended, "Self defense! There's a bunch of mats upstairs for the kickboxing classes they have; I could show you a few things."
You sucked your teeth as you considered.
You had no reason to be hostile and say no, there was nothing wrong with being able to defend yourself.
At first, you were defensive because it made it all too real. You were worried knowing how to protect yourself would somehow drag you deeper into Jungkook's world, but you now realize you were in it, whether you were ready to be or not. It was best, safest, to be able to protect yourself.
"Alright, Jeon, but don't pull anything stupid," you warned as you got up and headed for the second level of the gym.
"Alright, we'll start simple," Jungkook started as he approached you, you were standing on the center of the mat in one of the boxing practice rooms. He was slowly pacing around you reminding you of a preditor looking at you as if you were his prey, you weren't going to lie it made you want to wrap your arms around yourself self contiously, but you held your ground and kept your hands at your side.
“I’m going to show you a handful of moves that you can use to get out of someoe grip if they try attacking you or grabbing you. Everything will be strictly offense.” he explained settling to stand infront of you.
You nodded along to confirm you understood.
“An important part of these moves is to get the guy down and then disengage no beat his ass. I think they’ll be super useful and be a bit more effective than throwing a shoe at someone.” He said with a smirk.
You smiled cheekily at him, “Hey don’t hate. You’re just jealous because you could never be as resourcful as I am.”
He rolled his eyes with a scoff before clapping his hands together and changing his stance, "I'll start by showing you how to get out of someone's grip if they grab you by your hair," he said, approaching you.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa," you said quickly, putting your hands up in defense, "We don't play dirty, no hair pulling," you warned as you backed away.
Jungkook flashed a bunny smile in amusement, "Unfortunately, a lot of guys do. If I remember correctly that's exactly how they got you down the night you saved me” he teased, but hesitated as he saw your discomfort.
"Don't worry I'll be gentle I promise." he said softly as he approached you again raising his arm as if reaching for your braid.
You shook your head furiously, "Aren't we supposed to practice on you first?" you argued. "Ya know so that you can explain it better." you pushed trying to delay the inevitable. What have you gotten yourself into?
"Ella, I don't have a ponytail," he started, but your hand quickly shot for the back of his head, entangling your fingers in the soft waves and gripping them lightly. Jungkook let a sigh escape his lips as you tugged his head back slightly, and he had to blink to remember himself before he continued.
"Okay," he said breathlessly as he centered his weight, "A lot of people have the instinct to pull away or try to run, that won't work," he started.
"What you do is you swing your arm around up and over theirs, and pinch their elbow into the crook of yours and push down," he gently acted out his explanation.
You stumbled quickly, releasing your grasp on his hair as you felt pressure pushing your elbow opposite of how the joint naturally bends.
You promptly found yourself on your knees, your arm still trapped in his hold.
"Once you have them here, you can punch them and run," he said, throwing a mock punch at your face. You tried, and failed not to flinch.
"These moves don't require strength. You have to use surprise to your advantage and, most importantly, disengage and get away as soon as possible." He explained as he released you and helped you up.
"Now your turn," he reached for your braid, grabbing the part closest to the base of your skull and tugging slightly, but not enough to hurt.
You resisted the urge to try and pull out his grasp and swung your arm into an arch like he showed you tucking his elbow between yours before pushing down.
It was a little clumsy, and he didn't go down at first, but as you increased the pressure and shoved down a little harder, Jungkook released his grip on your hair and fell to his knees with a thud.
"Now punch me," he ordered through his teeth.
"I'm not-" he looked up at you defiantly, and you settled with a mocking air punch making a quite "Bam" as a sound effect before pulling away.
"I'm not comfortable hitting you," you said, twiddling your thumbs together.
Jungkook looked like he wanted to argue, but this was your first session, and he didn't want to get you too far out of your comfort zone.
He hoped you would be willing to show him what kind of punches you were packing later on down the road, maybe with boxing gloves so you would be more comfortable.
"Fine, but let's do it again to make sure you have the hang of it," he offered.
You ran the exercise again, each time Jungkook was careful not to pull your hair too hard, but he did start resisting a bit more to encourage you to move and fight more quickly. And while it should have taken you a little longer to get him to the ground each time you attacked with new vigor, making sure you moved fast enough that he couldn't resist too much.
Jungkook smiled at you as you hovered your fist in front of his face menisenly, your face stelled and set in concentration. After a few more rounds of grabbing your hair at various angles, the defensive move came naturally to you, and you got him on the ground successfully each time.
"Good, good, okay, let's move on," he said breathlessly as you helped him up from the ground.
"I'm going to teach you an easy one; it's what you do if a man grabs you around the wrist." He explained, walking closer.
"Grab my wrist, and grip it tight," he ordered.
You did as he instructed, although your fingers couldn't fully wrap around it.
If he moved to pull out of your grip, he could do it easily, but to your surprise, he didn't yank downwards like your dad always told you to do to get out of a man's grasp.
"You can yank and pull all you want, and that may get you out, but some guys will be able to just grip harder, and you're more at risk of injuring yourself," he explained, giving a light tug in your grasp.
"Instead, place your other hand on top of his to hold it down. Use the hand in their grasp to grip their wrist for a more secure hold. Then swing your arm in a large circle, grab their wrist, and push down."
You stumbled with a gunt as he followed through with his actions, using his free hand to hold yours against his wrist, and wrapping his captured hand around your wrist as he swung his arm in a large arc, effectively taking your arm and positioning at an awkward angle behind you before shoving you forward and onto your knees.
Jungkook was careful not to push too hard to hurt you, but the discomfort was inevitable.
"Alright, then you push him down and disengage, do not try to keep hold of a man that's bigger than you. Safety always comes first run if you can," he explained before releasing your hand and helping you up.
"This move is a good one because it doesn't require strength. You're stronger than I thought you were, but guys still have weight and height to their advantage." Jungkook explained as he reached for your wrist, effectively circling his fingers around it to the point where his thumb and middle finger overlapped.
You tried not to smile to yourself at the thought of Jungkook recognizing your strength. You never liked to be considered delicate.
Jungkook once again explained the maneuver walking you through each step and critiquing your hand placement before you were ready to try it in real-time.
You tried the maneuver on him swinging his arm before pushing him to the ground, and while he resisted the pressure, you smiled in victory as he fell to his knees.
"That was good, but a bit quicker, the surprise is a contributing factor, anyone who's expecting it can get out of it," he offered. He drilled you on the process a few more times, making sure you moved in one fluid motion instead of initiating it step by the step before ordering you to try with your non-dominant hand.
It was your third try with your non-dominant hand when things went wrong.
You grew a little vicious moving faster so you could get him down before he had time to react or resist, and you shoved a bit harder. He fell to his knees with a harsh thud, but it was the way that he desperately yanked his wrist out of your grip with a sharp cry that set off red flags in your head.
"Jungkook," you cried, falling on your knees next to him to see him cradling his arm to his chest.
"It's fine," he said through his teeth. You glared as you reached for his hand, remembering that it was the same wrist he injured three weeks prior when he got jumped.
"Oh, you idiot, where is your brace?" you demanded as you inspected the swollen appendage.
He didn't respond, only smiled at you sheepishly. "Have you been lifting weights without it? Have you let it rest at all?" you demanded as you got up, pulling him up with you and dragging him out the boxing area, you had claimed.
You continued to lecture him and gripe under your breath as you dragged him, by the good wrist, down the stairs, and through the gym to the ice machine where you wrapped a few cubes of ice into a wad of paper towels.
"Here idiot," you offered grumpily.
"Is this how you talk to all your patients, Doctor?" he asked mockingly as he took the makeshift ice pack.
Bedside manner was something you were going to have to work on in med school.
You get easily frustrated when people blatantly ignore doctors' orders and further jeopardize their health. If you have liver problems, stop drinking. If you have lung problems, don't smoke. If you have an injured wrist, put it in a damn brace and don't lift weights or pick fights with people.
You told him as much as you watched him ice it for a few minutes though the action did little to help the swelling go down.
"Are you mad at me?" Jungkook asked softly, not quite looking at you.
He peeked up to see your eyes soften a bit at the question, "I'm not mad, just a little frustrated. You're my friend, and I don't want to see you hurt. Especially since I was the one that hurt you," you explained, reaching to brush his sweaty bangs behind his ears.
Jungkook tried to ignore how his chest tightened at the simple action, "It was my fault, you were only doing what I told you to do." he offered, not wanting you to feel responsible for his stupidity.
You didn't look up at him, instead focusing down on his wrist, turning and angling it in a way that you could better check the swelling.
"I have supplies at home, I could wrap it if you like?" you offered
"I'm really fine. It doesn't even- yah! Okay," he hissed as you applied light pressure to it. You smiled in victory, and the two of you parted ways briefly to grab your bags before meeting back up. Jungkook drove to school, so you didn't have to worry about catching the bus.
It was a quick drive from campus to your apartment, Jungkook nimbly avoided the traffic of main roads by cutting through neighborhoods you didn't even know connected.
"You know this city like the back of your hand, don't you?" you asked, surprised by how quickly you were pulling into your apartment complex.
"It comes with the job," he said with a shrug.
You didn't know what 'the job' was. If it was driving a getaway car or dealing drugs, or... you couldn't even think up other possibilities.
You couldn't muster up the courage to ask him as you made your way up the stairs to your door. A brown and black cat with bright green eyes waited outside your door, meowing impatiently as you approached.
"That's Jeremy," you introduced as you bent down to give him pets. Jungkook smiled at the ridiculously human name for a cat.
"He's a stray, but I leave food out for him. Hoseok won't let me bring him in the apartment. ‘Says he'd trash the place," you explained as you grabbed the little bowl you left outside your door and unlocked your apartment.
"But he's so cute, how can you resist?" he questioned giving the cat some pets himself.
"I know!" you whined, setting the now filled bowl of cat food back on the ground. "I'm thinking about getting him a collar, though, just to make sure animal control doesn't come to scoop him up," you said offhandedly.
"I say you just let him move in, fuck Hoseok. We're mad at him anyway, right?" Jungkook said jokingly.
You laughed along as you made your way to the living room area, "Take a seat," you ordered, gently pointing to the couch, "I'll go grab my first aid kit."
Jungkook sat down immediately, sinking into the worn brown couch as he inspected the apartment. It wasn't quite a studio, the entire front area was open to what was the kitchen, dining room, and living room, but there was a door that gave the bedroom some privacy, and another door that leads to what he assumed was the bathroom.
The apartment wasn't dirty, but it was well lived in.
The front was slightly crowded, the entertainment center and the coffee table in front of the couch were nearly touching. You had two bean bags stacked in the corner next to the sofa, probably for when you had more guests. And there was an array of fuzzy blankets draped over the couches and piled next to the bean bag chairs.
The one window next to the door had various potted plants scatted in front of it and a few were hanging from ropes in the ceiling.
Most of them looked the be herbs and cacti. Jungkook could tell by the way sprouts were missing their leaves that you most likely cooked with them.
The natural smell of the plants scented the air with a mild and refreshing spice scent of mint, basil, and rosemary. But the strongest scent came from the pot of wild lavender that was placed next to the couch. The floral scent put him at ease naturally and reminded him of the time Jin put lavender drops in his diffuser when he complained about having a hard time sleeping.
The kitchen was small, the cabinet doors were on crooked hinges, and perhaps had chipped paint, but you had taped little slivers of miss-matched scrapbook paper over the worst spots. And the look was pleasantly charming. There was no counter space, but he saw a small card table in the corner with a knife block and cutting board on it that you must use for your prep station when your cooking.
The dining room table had three miss-matched chairs, but the little cushions on them somehow tied the whole look together and made it seem like a matching set.
Everything looked thrifted and worn, but the little touches you added, the cushions and pillows on the couch, the small tapestry of cacti Jungkook was pretty sure every college girl ordered for her dorm room, and the fairy lights that lined the living room walls made the place feel cozy and homey.
He could see a little part of you in every piece of the apartment, and because of that he immediately felt at ease, and at home in it. He imagined you and Hoseok must spend many nights in the cozy room, cooking dinner together, or having long movie nights.
He couldn’t help but slip himself into the fantasy and wondered if there would ever be a day where this apartment would be a familiar comfort. If he would know the story of how you got those chairs or where the photos pinned to the refrigerator door were taken.
You were thankful that the front of your apartment was at least presentable with the surprise company. Your room was a train wreck you planned to keep hidden. After digging through your closet for your first aid kit, you cleared your coffee table of its mess of textbooks and flashcards and set your first aid kit on top. Jungkook's eyes nearly bulged out of his head as he took in the size of the kit. It looked fit for an EMT.
You detoured to the kitchen, first grabbing an ice pack out the freezer and handing it to him.
"You might have strained it a little while you were driving, I want as much swelling as possible to go down before I wrap it," you explained.
Before you ruffled through the kit, moving several tools, Jungkook didn't quite know the purpose for, until you grabbed a bottle of ibuprofen. "Take this for the swelling," you ordered, handing him a cup of water.
"Thanks, I'm sorry to put you through the trouble," he said sheepishly.
"No, I don't mind." you amended. And it was true, helping people like this, easing their pain and making them more comfortable was something you took pride in doing.
You could feel the approaching awkward silence, and you took the chance to ask the question that was nagging at the back of your head.
"So earlier you said knowing the city 'comes with the job' what do you do? Ya know, for BTS?" you asked hesitantly as you pushed back at the cuticle of your thumb. You were lucky not to have a nail-biting habit, but you did have a habit of pushing back your cuticles when you got fidgety.
"Oh umm, it kinda changes over time, the inner circle has responsibilities and such, but our duties are pretty ambiguous. We don't have assigned jobs like Armys do.." Jungkook said hesitantly.
You looked at him expectantly, and he continued, "Like Suga Hyung is head of surveillance, but he also does investigations and fieldwork and such. And Jin Hyung is head of intelligence, but he also does a lot of the business for BulletProof, and he completely runs Sugar Daddy. Jimin is our arsonist, but he can fight, and deal, and do a lot of things really," he said, rambling.
"I'm sorry, did you just say Jimin is an arsonist?" you asked in disbelief. Jungkook looked at you, shocked but nodded.
"He's really good at science stuff, that's why he bakes so good." Jungkook offered as an explanation.
You think back to the chemistry lectures you had to sit through every time Jimin taught you a new recipe. It made sense, but you were still surprised. You would expect something like arson to be more in V's field with the crazy look in his eyes.
"Okay, but you still haven't told me what you do," you pushed.
At this point, Jungkook's ice pack was starting to drip, and you were probably good to wrap his wrist, but you were too caught up in better understanding BTS and everything that they do.
Jungkook huffed out a nervous laugh, "I do lots of stuff. When I first started, I was dealing. I worked my way up to more of the pharmaceuticals and medical-grade stuff. I mostly sold insulin or other simple medicines like that. The pharmacy industry is way corrupt, and poor people need meds too, ya know?" he rambled.
You nodded in agreement. Pharmaceuticals and health care expenses were something you were continually challenging your teachers on in your ethics class. You hated becoming a doctor knowing health care was a business people monopolized in Alcorn.
"I've helped Suga with surveillance some I really like that. I'm studying software engineering to get better at it. I think I'm faster at hacking than Suga is at this point, but don't tell him I said that. I've also just kind of been the muscle for the inner circle. When RM and Jin have meetings, I always go as back up. I lead training sessions and help teach new recruits how to fight, too." he went on.
Jungkook didn't want to tell you the other reason why he went to meetings.
For some reason, he felt like telling you he's the heir of BTS wouldn't sit with you well. To know that he was training to be a crime lord and was minoring in business so he could perfect the art of embezzlement and make network connections while taking classes with the next generation of Alcorn's businessmen and investors.
He didn’t want to talk about how BTS had a timeline of working its way out the gang scene of the Westside and worm their way into the upper East. RM runs BTS more like a mafia, a family with limitless assets and connections, depending more on his and Jin's charm and connections than violence and brute force to make business deals.
Jungkook also didn't know how to tell you or any of his hyungs that he didn't want to be rich.
He knows he's in no position to complain, he's been living a life of luxury since he was 15, but he knows that money isn't being distributed equitably to Army and other lower ranks of BTS.
RM always reminds Jungkook, it's not their responsibility to share evenly with all of BTS. There would be no assets, no way to recruit more members, no comfort for everyone if they did.
There is nothing to keep Army from climbing their way up the ranks in BTS. RM has the baseline standard of ensuring everyone's needs are met; they have a home and a job. What they chose to do with their potential after that is up to them. You get out of BTS, what you give.
And Jungkook understands that, but he still can't shake the feeling of unease from his chest. That BTS could be using their power and influence, not to invade the markets of the upper East, but instead to make the Westside a better place.
He knew he was stupid for having dreams of non-profits and housing reforms, but he can't keep those feelings from nagging at him from the back of his mind.
Jungkook's rambling fell quiet, and you could see the conflict on his face. Maybe you were pushing for too much too soon. Maybe BTS expected things from Jungkook that he was ashamed of like Hoseok was ashamed.
"I shouldn't have asked," you said, reaching for his hands.
"No, it's okay. It's just more complicated then I realized," he explained as he watched you wipe the water from the ice pack off his arm.
You dug through the first aid kit for some gauze and butterfly strips, "I'm sorry if it's a little tight. I'm a low on gauze, "you said as you started wrapping the bandage, taking care to make sure his hand was set in the proper position.
The two of you fell into small talk as you started to work.
You talked about your classes, what your favorite pastry was at Sugar Daddy. He asked you about where you were from and whether or not you missed your home.
And it was an answer you always struggled to give, because while a piece of you always yearned to be home, to talk in your native tongue, and see your family. You know you could never bring yourself to return home. Alcorn has rooted itself so firmly in you; you don't think you'll ever leave.
You found yourself losing track of time, as you told him stories of the funny cultural differences between your home and Kros. And too soon you noticed the sun had set in your window.
"Jungkook, you missed your class," you exclaimed as you remembered he was only at the gym for a short break.
He flashed his bunny smile as he chuckled, "I missed both of them, but I don’t mind. But I probably should head home soon. I have a ton of homework, and you mentioned you have a test in two days." he said with a sigh. Being such a responsible adult was such a burden sometimes.
He wanted nothing more, but to talk with you more for hours into the night and morning.
"Of course, sorry for keeping you so late, and sorry for the shitty bandage job. I really need to go get more gauze." you rambled nervously as you got up to accompany him on the three-foot walk it takes to get from the couch to your door.
You barely had enough gauze to properly wrap around his wrist, you had to get creative and use tape and butterfly bandaids to stretch across the bits of fabric that doesn’t meet to secure it together.
"It's fine, it's fine," he amended as he laughed nervously, "besides, I have my brace in the car," he admitted nervously—his uninjured hand traveling to rub the back of his neck.
You stared at him in fake outrage, "You had your brace this whole time? Why did you-"
"I wanted to hang out with you," he said, shyly effectively putting your overdramatic reaction to a halt as you flushed.
"Well then ask to grab a coffee or watch a movie, don't waste my precious medical supplies." you teased as you opened the door for him.
His eyes lit up in response as he turned back to face you.
"So would you? Want to hang out again sometime?" he asked his doe eyes shining so bright you swear it was an ability he actively abused.
"I'll have to check my calendar, but I think I can manage to squeeze it in, but first, we should both get through test week," you said, trying to keep a cool tone.
Jungkook’s nose scrunched slightly as he flashed you a bunny toothed smile, and you couldn’t contain your own as he wished you a good night and heading home.
You watch from your door as he made his way down the stairs and to his car. Jungkook turned and looked at you over his shoulder three times as he made the descent, flashing you a small smile and wave each time he did.
Finally, he made it to his car giving one final wave before he buckles in his pulled out of sight. You moved to close the door sighing as you added Jeon Jungkook to the list of confusing emotions spiraling through your life.
You felt a soft nudge and looked down to see Jeremy meowing at you, demanding more food as if he didn't have a full bowl next to him.
You should be scoffing at the audacity of this cat, but instead, Jeon Jungkook has you smiling softly over the memory of how he bent down and gave the kitty some pets while still in his workout clothes from before. The juxtaposition of his tone tattooed arm petting Jeremy’s soft fur would haunt you in the back of your mind for a while.
Jeremy meowed at you again, and you sighed, reaching for his bowl. "Get in here," you called and watched as Jeremy happily trotted into the house.
And you smiled proudly to yourself as you watched the kitty explore his new home, sniffing at your lavender plant with piqued interest.
Fuck Hoseok's rules, You have a pet cat now.

You are dragging Jimin but lets be fair- none of the vocal line can sing well. They are OK, but if you compare them to anyone from an older generation, they are just meh. Nowhere near the level they should be at. I attribute their popularity to 3 things- good storyline in music when they first started, relatability as an "outsider" group that is mistreated (perfect for teenage audience), and their audience being the "stream" generation that has enough time to waste on streaming things on multiple gadgets. What i find extremely unfortunate is that bighit in all those years BTS has been so popular has still not invested in teaching the vocal line how to sing properly. I wish we got our hands on behind the scenes videos of BTS performing during concerts- just so it can be obvious how bad the vocal line is. (I'm not hating on them, its a mis-management problem mostly- but the problem is, armys like to claim they are the golden standard in performance when they are clearly not).
BigHit has long since realized there’s no need to invest in vocal coaches when ARMY would consume nonsense as long as it’s served on a platter of gold. The platter of gold being BTS. In terms of vocals, my ranking for vocal line would be:
1.) Seokjin (his voice is magical)
2.) Jungkook (I won’t lie sometimes I’ll hear JK singing and think, “oh Jin should’ve sang this”)
3.) Taehyung (I like the texture and register of V’s voice better than JK’s, but JK has more range and is the better technical singer).
JK stans are obsessed with his main vocal position in the same way Jimin stans are obsessed with his main dancer position. They think just because JK is main vocal he deserves 50%+ of the lines in every song. Not that I’m on blaming him. I blame BigHit and their dumb producers for instilling some sort of hierarchy within the fandom. Jungkook’s vocals are good, don’t get me wrong. But sometimes the feel flat, and dare I say….boring, almost like there’s something missing. He himself said he’s still working on “finding his voice” as an artist, so kudos to him for being willing to challenge himself. And of course, all their voices sound best when using their natural vocal range and not that strained auto-tuned bs.
Also I’m not dragging Jimin because of his vocals. I’m dragging Jimin IN ADDITION to his vocals. He’s a toxic human being to begin with and his trash vocals are simply the icing on the cake of long list of drags. And his lack of vocal abilities is perhaps the funniest one too, given that the career he earns his living from is well idk SINGING? LOL. It’s like a baker who can’t bake. Or an accountant who can’t read financial statements. USELESS. So why’s he even in the group in the first place? Talk about dead weight.
And yes it is unfortunate. I heard jimin stans were upset because he didn’t have any solo lines in the Coldplay collab “My Universe”. Deserved. Honestly. Truly. This is the closest thing we’ll probably get to a jimin-less OT7 song and we should thank Coldplay for blessing all our ears. If you haven’t noticed, the reason most of the other vocal line members tend to strain their voices is because pdogg is obsessed with raising the key on all their songs as of late to an unbearable level of screech. And you know it’s screechy because he later floods the entire production with autotune. You can’t sit here and tell me they didn’t all sound good in “My Universe” singing and rapping at such a gorgeous lower vocal register that suits all their voices. All their voices except jimin’s, of course. Then again, it’s not their fault jimin has the vocal range of a gnat. Ironically enough he himself even struggles to hit the notes in his range, so why do the other members have to constantly suffer as a result.
And yes, they have suffered. Vocal and rapline have complained constantly about how they’ve struggled to reach all those high notes they’re always being forced to sing in (thanks shitdogg). Guess who’s never complained though, you guessed it: Jimin. He never sings live anyway so no wonder he’s content. What a selfish human being.
If you spot any typos just know I didn’t proofread, and truthfully I’m tired of talking about Jimin. I really don’t care for the guy. If he left BTS I’d never mention his name again. But I’m only answering the asks you guys send me, so feel free to talk about non-jimin shit.

Latest Music Updates: 5 spicy news of Music Icons
Here, whatson editorial has brought some latest news updates on music and singing sensation, to get the spicy news of the entertainment world keep eye on whatson. 1. On Instagram, DOJA CAT let go of beauty norms and shaved her brows - Like many others online, a video of Doja Cat has been viewed as she shaving her brows this morning. The "Get into It" singer opened up about how she's always loathed having hair during a live Instagram video on Thursday, Aug. 4, before cutting off her eyebrows. Even though Doja Cat's lack of eyebrows is trending on Twitter, I was more moved by what the Grammy winner had to say about hair before getting her makeover. Doja Cat expressed some frank, vulnerable realities about hair and beauty standards before applying cream to her forehead. She spoke for around two minutes and included an especially heartbreaking account of what it's like to try to exercise while wearing a wig. https://twitter.com/ErinKell79/status/1555409561313492999?ref_src=twsrctfwtwcamptweetembedtwterm1555409561313492999twgr36073c01598f2acd2043095cfd74c209bb4883a7twcons1_c10&ref_url=httpswww.nme.comnewsmusicdoja-cat-reacts-to-fans-concerned-about-her-shaving-her-head-and-eyebrows-im-rich-im-fine-3285070 2. Machine Gun Kelly Slams "You're So Dumb" to Person Who Said "Homophobic Slur" On Tour Bus - Do the crime properly if you're going to do it. When someone spray-painted a series of sexually explicit images and a homophobic slur on what they believed to be Colson Baker's tour bus on Thursday, August 4, Machine Gun Kelly relayed that message. You're so stupid, the rap rocker stated in an Instagram Story. You misidentified my bus when you spray-painted it. Incorrect bus, you f—ing moron! Do the crime's initial component appropriately. Kelly claimed that the anonymous tagger waited until 5 a.m. to post their hateful message, which read "'Rap Devil F—-it’s on one side, with a giant image of an ejaculating penis on the other. Machine Gun Kelly 3. On Twitter, Galantis makes a hint about a potential BTS collaboration - On August 6, the group shared a BTS-choreographed music video for their 2017 song "DNA" on Twitter. The film was modified to include a portion of Galanti’s and author Craig David's 2022 song of the same name. With the hashtag "#gotsomethingcooking" and the words "There's something in your DNA moves," they hinted that Galantis would be collaborating with the boy band BTS in their tweet. Big Hit Music and BTS have not yet made any comments on a potential partnership. But if accurate, this would be the group's second collaboration with Galantis following the duo BTS and Coldplay's "My Universe" Remix in November. Just last week, BTS unveiled Bad Decisions, a new project they worked on alongside Snoop Dogg and producer Benny Blanco. Vocalists Snoop and BTS Jungkook, Jimin, V, and Gin contributed to the song that was the result of a music video featuring Blanco. https://twitter.com/wearegalantis/status/1555598839091961856?ref_src=twsrctfwtwcamptweetembedtwterm1555598839091961856twgr9dd5ed06d006a3a728b78855a58faceac3fe15ddtwcons1_c10&ref_url=httpswww.nme.comnewsmusicgalantis-bts-collaboration-3285044 4. Performances by Anitta, Panic! at the Disco, J Balvin, and Others at the 2022 MTV VMAs - At the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, performances by Anitta, J Balvin and Ryan Castro, Marshmello and Khalid, and Panic! At the Disco are scheduled. On Sunday, August 28, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, the program will be televised live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Anitta will perform her single "Evolver," which peaked at the top of the Billboard Global Excl U.S. chart in April, to mark her VMA debut. The track is off of her fifth studio album, Versions of Me, and it has reached as high as No. 3 on the Hot Latin Songs chart and No. 70 on the Billboard Hot 100. Blackpink: six years of music! How the women marked their anniversary on Instagram is shown below- Blackpink, the biggest K-Pop girl group in the world, recently published images on Instagram to mark their six years of being a unit. 💜 Soft Bias Tag 💜
i was tagged by the two lovelys at @bts-soccer-moms to do the most adorable tag ever ~ tysm this was so much fun!!
1. Who is my bias?
my favourite muscle bunny jeon jungkook, kookie, nochu, love of my life
2. What made you notice them?
“Dope” was my first bts mv and i swear it was legitimately love at first sight (that police uniform got me whipped from the start but shhh) i’ve never chosen a bias that quick in my life tbh i didn’t even know what a bias was back then and i already knew it was going to be him (cheesy i know) also when i started watching more bts content i fell for his honey vocals, his big sparkly eyes, his cute bunny smile, and he’s just my ideal boy you know? he’s beautiful and talented what more can i say?
3. What’s your favourite thing about them?
i know everyone says this about their bias but honestly can you blame us? of course the answer is everything! i love everything about him, his passion and ambition for music, his big heart and love for his hyungs, his cute mannerisms, his will to strive to become the best at whatever he sets his mind to, he’s not only beautiful on the outside but he’s infinitely beautiful on the inside
4. Who would initiate skinship more?
i think at the beginning probably me? mostly because he's such a shy shy boy but also i think once he's more comfortable it will be pretty balanced between us
5. Who would hog the blankets more?
either neither of us or him bc i'm literally a human heater so i don't really need to hog the blankets that much plus if he just cuddles up to me he wouldn't need to hog them anyways ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
6. Who would be more clingy?
i don't think either of us are that noticeably clingy but if it's just us and not in public then perhaps me?
7. Who would say “I love you” first?
hmmm is it cheesy if i say we happened to say it at the same moment bc it finally felt right? lolol but idk i think maybe he would to say it first cuz it takes me a while to finally admit things so yeah
8. Who easily be more flustered?
oh man i think we both tie in this one but i’d like to think that i can hide it better than him, i mean have you seen the stuttering mess kookie is when his hyungs catch him off guard poor bun bun
9. What cuddling position would you two have?
please refer to this taekook moment as a point of reference
10. Which colours remind you of him?
two colours come to mind:
~ golden honey yellow: he's not the golden maknae for nothing, also like i've said before, his honey vocals make me melt every time and he's also the sweetest boy so of course he reminds me of honey plus he looks so precious whenever he wears yellow
~ a deep bold red: it reminds me of the fire and raw passion in his eyes as he performs, the energy he exerts when he dances, and just that alluring presence he holds when he knows he's owning the stage
tldr: kookie is 💛✨🍯 and jungkook is ❤️🔥🎤
11. What season would you like to spend with them?
summer! i want to have all the fun in the world with him without any worries or cares in the back of our minds, i want to have cute amusement park dates, ice cream at the park dates, bowling alley and arcade dates, everything and anything, we could go out to the pier, stargaze, the whole shabang
12. Who would bake the cookies and who would steal the batter?
based on the cooking run bts episodes, i think he'd be better in the kitchen than me tbh and i'm not much of a baker but i will help if i see someone else baking but also low key so that i can sneak a bite or two
13. Which one of you would make bad puns and how would the other react?
i think both of us would crack a pun every now and then and the other person would just sigh and roll their eyes but also quietly chuckle and note to themselves to one up the other person in the future
14. Who would want to adopt 50 cats and dogs?
i think we would alternate between one of us being like "you know what sounds like a good idea? adopting a dog. right now. let's do it." and the other one being the Reasonable One™ but then eventually one day we both end up being the one wanting the dog and attempting to enable the other and so we end up getting a cute dog child and we live happily ever after the end
15. Which one of you would nearly burn the kitchen down trying to microwave a pop tart and who would come to the rescue?
well considering kookie had said before that he has One Fear which happens to be microwaves so i'm gonna say it's him. it will be like:
him: "kirstyyyy can you make me a pop tart?"
me: "sorry kookie i'm a bit busy at the moment, can you try making it yourself?"
*smoke detector goes off in the distance*
me: *cleans up the mess and makes him a new one*
me: "you're an idiot"
him: "yeah but i'm your idiot" 😉
me: “ugh you're lucky i still think you're cute” 🙄
him: “heheh sorry ily” 😙
16. Who likes to lean over trail railings and who pulls them back?
i think we'd both have our moments for this because we both have no fear of heights and have moments where #dangerismymiddlename but then again we are also promoters of safety so yeah
17. What would watching a horror movie with them be like?
it would consist of a lot of fun banter and teasing towards whoever jumps or get scared :P i really enjoy watching horror films with company because i love commentating (especially for dumb horror films where i get to yell at the characters for making dumbass decisions) but i also get a laugh whenever someone (including myself) gets a big scare so yeah, i think it would be fun to have a horror movie marathon with kookie during spooky season or something
18. Who would be the cheesy flirt and who would be the smooth flirt?
i think kookie can be 50/50 i mean have you seen this boy's duality? his dorky offstage personality vs his sensual onstage presence gives me whiplash.. me on the other hand, i think my cheesiness will outweigh my smoothness like 75/25
19. Who would be more competitive?
we will make everything a competition, but like in a fun healthy way like "i bet i can beat you in this track in mario kart" "iS tHaT A cHaLLeNgE??!?" and whoever wins gets like a little prize each time (can be anything from food to a peck on the cheek to getting the better controller next time to picking the next movie etc.) like just simple silly competitions to keep it interesting (no sore losers or egotistic winners in this house, it's all just fun and games) and ooo bonus: we can keep a little chart over like the month or maybe the year like a "jungkook vs kirsty" and the overall winner gets a grand prize of whatever they want
20. Who would have to be given constant reminders (to eat, sleep, drink water, etc.)
him. we all know that he works his hardest and tries to push himself past his limits so i think he would need someone to gently remind him to take care of himself from time to time :’(
21. Who sends memes and who sends cute “i miss you” texts at 3 am?
we're talking about your resident meme king and queen here so what do you think? but then again we both have our soft hours so i think it will be a fair mix of both. something like
"i miss you"
"you meme a lot to me"
and that’s it!! this was honestly so much fun to do and i’m now feeling softer than usual for my bunny rip gonna go watch some cute compilations or something ok byeee
i tag: @wen-jun-bae, @blueberry-child, @taeyongskookie, @cyphersnamjoon, @mysticalj, @jinstaej, @min-baby-boy-yoongi, @majinstic, @madpanda69, @kochiniseokjinnie, @im-captain-of-this-ship, @kawaii-ing, @chiantae, @dailygifihope, and anyone else who wants to do this :)

Life Is A Whisk
; Jin x Reader
; Genre: Fluff, Crack
; Word Count: 3.2k
; Synopsis: You have no problem with Kim Seokjin most of the time, in fact you even consider him to be handsome and funny and he feels the same about you. Until you are both placed into a kitchen, and then it becomes the battlegrounds for World War Three, the Bake-off edition.
; A/N: Lol honestly what even is this. I just got an idea in my head and this happened and it’s not even good so I’m sorry! I’M SORRY OKAY? Its probably got the wrong label genres too so idek.
Baking to you was an art form. While the Mona Lisa is truly a beautiful piece of artwork, it could only be experienced in its natural habit if you happened to be in the vicinity of Paris.
Only the most talented with a paintbrush, pen or pencil would be able to even attempt to reproduce the masterpiece that Leonardo da Vinci created over 500 years ago. But anyone could bake in your opinion; all you needed was some flour, eggs, butter, sugar and a little bit of time.
And just like art, the end result could vary drastically. A cake could look dubious, as if a 2 year old had created it out of Play-Doh, yet it could taste like an angel had blessed your tongue itself.
Alternatively, a cake could look so delicious it could seem like it had been created to grace the very halls of Buckingham Palace. But it could taste like the ashes of yesterdays regrets.
Yes, baking was an art form and in your ever so humble opinion, you were the best baker you knew. If only it weren’t for the annoying, and aggravatingly handsome, Kim Seokjin arguing that no, actually he was the best baker.
“Seokjin, you wouldn’t know what filo pastry is if it jumped up from the table and slapped you in the face.” You hiss at him from across the living room. He’s glaring at you, arms crossed over his broad chest as he scoffs and rolls his eyes.
Hoseok, sat next to him, lets out a long, suffering sigh and sinks lower into the cream coloured sofa in the hopes that he can sink away to his own house somehow. Namjoon catches Hoseok’s eye from his place next to you and grimaces, wishing desperately that no one had decided to turn on The Great British Bake Off in the first damn place.
Everyone knew that anything related to the world of baking and kitchens was to be treated like the shadow land in The Lion King. That’s dangerous land Jungkook; we don’t go there if we want peace amongst friends.
You’d been more than happy to watch your British counterparts baking and more than enjoyed the amusing puns that they constantly quipped. “It’s just not the same without Mel and Sue you know.” Jimin had whined at one point, which had you nodding in commiseration.
It had all been civil even, neither you nor Jin engaging in any arguments or back handed compliments. Honestly you were fine with each other when baking or cooking wasn’t involved, you would even say that he was a great friend to you – who you were also unreasonably attracted to.
But then Taehyung had made the dumb decision to ask who would win if they ever went on the show. And of course you’d decided to boldly proclaim that the winner would obviously be you because you were evidently the best baker in the room. Which had resulted in the current argument between you and Jin.
“I remember the last time you tried to make choux pastry Y/N. It’s so simply and yet I’ve never witnessed anything as disappointing and limp since I saw-“ Hoseok slaps a hand over Jin’s mouth at that, fully aware that some insult to one of the guys was incoming. It was one thing to watch you both argue, it was another to get everyone else involved.
You scowl furiously, rising up slightly out of your seat as you move to defend yourself and your amazing baking skills. A hand on your shoulder yanking you back down distracts you and you can’t help but glare at Yoongi’s hand.
“Why don’t you both have a bake off then? We’ll judge who’s the best.” Jungkook mutters quietly and you swear that if the intensity of the glares he’s getting from the others could be turned into a power source, you’d be able to power Seoul for a year.
Jin stares at him with wide eyes before a thoughtful look takes over his face. He sucks his lush, lower lip into his teeth as he simply watches you for a moment. His intense stare causes you to squirm slightly, he may be your mortal enemy in the kitchen but you were more than happy to say that he was quite possibly the most handsome man in the world.
“What would be the point? We’d just get angry at you all for whoever lost.” He mutters and you nod your head. The embarrassment and fury at losing would be far too much for you to handle and Jin was a hothead too.
“Oh come on, I’m sure we all knead to know who’s truly the best. Besides, you both like baking and we get to eat delicious sweet treats, so it’s a win-win for all of us. Why? Are you both too wimpy to rise to the occasion?” Taehyung smirks; completely nonplussed when everyone groans at his puns though Jin gives him a subtle nod of approval.
“Okay, I’m game for it. What about you Y/N? I think it’s the yeast you can do after bragging for so long. You and I with one kitchen and one winner. Batter the devil you know right?” Jin sits forward, leaning his elbows on his knees and the fact that he took Tae’s lead on the puns makes you want to roll your eyes. But instead you’re far too focused on how sinful his position makes his shoulders look. Particularly in that damn black turtleneck. It’s enough to make your mouth water.
You pause for a moment, taking in everyone’s faces as they look on in intrigue. While no one wants to witness World War Three: The Bake Off Edition, they’d all be willing to endure it for some good food you’re sure.
“Alright Jin, you’re on. We’ll see who’s the best.” Standing, you both shake hands and you try your best to ignore how damn good his hand feels. As you do so, the guys immediately drop into planning mode.
The competition was arranged for the following week on the Saturday. It gave you both plenty of time to prepare what you were going to create under the rules that the rest of your group had given you, which was mainly to be fair and don’t cheat. Or be an ass.
You’d both decided to let your friends make the challenges, which had resulted in frantic texts between them all as they tried to decide on what they wanted to eat for the first two days. The end result was three challenges.
1. A salted caramel cheesecake (Jungkook had begged for a cheesecake)
2. Black forest brownies (Namjoon demanded that at least something had to have fruit to be a little healthy)
3. Triple chocolate cookies (That had been the one everyone agreed on quickest)
Surprisingly, both Jin and you had complained that the challenges weren’t hard enough to test your skills. But the group had been firm, wanting to have food that was both quick enough to make but also wouldn’t result in you both strangling each other. That meant no filo pastry this time.
It actually surprised you how into the competition everyone was as they had all agreed to buy the ingredients themselves to prevent any ‘cheating’ from the two of you. You could still hear the ringing in your ears from Jin’s rant about that and honestly you agreed, how were you going to cheat exactly?
It had been decided that the competition was going to take place in the restaurant that Namjoon and Jin owned together before it opened up for the day, as none of you owned a kitchen with two ovens. Which was how you were stood in the middle of a high tech looking kitchen while you wrapped the cords of your cute Pokémon themed apron around your front.
“Ready to lose Y/N?” Jin teased lightly, his tone more playful than mean as his hand fluttering along your back lightly as he passed by behind you. Shivers erupted from the slight touch and you nodded, not entirely positive that you trusted your voice to speak for you.
The guys had had way too much fun setting up this whole competition, even going to the extent of decorating the kitchen to add some ‘ambience’ as Taehyung called it. Personally you just thought he wanted an excuse to decorate but whatever, it wasn’t something that you needed to focus on.
Both of you stood in front of your relevant work stations, surrounded by the baking bounties that would mix together to produce the most delicious food possible.
“Okay you argumentative fucks. Hopefully this will resolve any more arguments you have in the future. Remember…its mind over batter. Three, two, one…go!” Yoongi called out, a hand coming down like he was directing a drag race or something.
Hoseok glared at him and muttered out in disgust at the fact Yoongi had even got involved in the puns, but the blonde man simply gave a delighted gummy smile. They’d all agreed that they didn’t even care who won; they were just going to reap the yummy baked benefits and so the excitement was palpable amongst them.
“I hope you’re ready to lose.” Jin comments casually as he begins to measure out his ingredients. You sneer, though the striking figure he makes momentarily distracts you from making a comment back to him.
You immediately moved to grab the ingredients to start the cheesecake, deciding to tackle that first, as it had to wait the longest to cool down. This had been mentioned to Jungkook many times but he’d been adamant that he wanted a cheesecake and what Jungkook wanted, Jungkook got.
Out of the corner of your eye you notice Jin obviously deciding to do the same as he began to pour plain digestive biscuits into a bag and began to hammer it with a rolling pin to create the base of the cake.
As you both work, you find that there’s an almost comfortable silence between you two. It surprises you, as you’d have thought that there’d be more shit talking between the two. Not to say that there wasn’t shit talking every now and then.
“You beat your eggs really oddly, you know that?” Jin commented as he placed his almost finished cheesecake in the oven to bake for the final time. You frowned at the fact he’d worked so fast and cursed those delicious looking biceps of his for allowing him to work faster.
“Being a woman I’m not as acquainted with beating things as you are Jin.” There’s a snort of laughter from the peanut gallery and you eye Jimin making a jerking motion to the others with a smile. Jin scowls over at you, as he quickly cleans his dishes and begins to prepare for the brownies.
“Hilarious.” He whispers into your ear, causing you to shiver, as he moves past you to grab a fresh and clean whisk, evidently deciding not to bother cleaning his. As you pour in the cheese mixture on top of your cake, you can’t help but bite your lip as you admire his figure yet again before shaking your head and concentrating again.
The only noise for the next few minutes as you begin to focus on making the brownie batter, folding in the sour cherries with care, is the low murmuring from the guys. They’re already whining at the smell of cheesecake in the air and even you have to admit that it’s making you hungry.
“Hey Y/N, why did the chocolate cake go to the doctors?” Jin suddenly speaks up. You pause in the middle of pouring the batter into the baking tray and look up at him suspiciously.
“I don’t know, do I want to know?” Murmuring suspiciously, you look back at your task and wait for his response. Why he’s suddenly decided to make a joke is beyond you but this was Jin, he did things like this. Yoongi is already groaning at the punch line and he’s not even heard it.
“Because it was feeling crumby!” Almost immediately Jin is laughing while everyone groans, with the exception of Jimin who falls of his chair in laughter. You can’t help the corners of your lips rising and you let out a soft exhale of a laugh.
Having found an audience for his jokes who obviously couldn’t leave, Jin continues with both jokes and puns as you both begin the process of baking your cookies. You’re not sure if he’s being serious and simply wanting to make people laugh, or if he’s trying to distract you so that your stuff tastes bad but either way, you can’t help but giggle at him.
He also seems to keep finding reasons to invade your personal space, claiming that he needs a certain ingredient or utensil and leaning over you. If he thinks that he can spy on how you’re baking or distract you then he’s dead wrong.
Well, kind of wrong. He smells phenomenal and your nose would be as long as the equator if you said he didn’t make your stomach flip when he got close. Maybe that was his game.
With a tray of brownies and a rather delicious looking cheesecake cooling, you’re simply waiting on the two trays of cookies that you had made to finish baking. Everyone moves forward to help you both clean up and they all compliment you both on not tearing each other’s throats out.
“Honestly, I was expecting like some actual blood to fly. Whether it’s because you cut yourself or murdered each other. Congratulations on acting like grown adults and not 2 years olds.” Hoseok grins, patting you both on the shoulders proudly, despite the fact that Jin is older than him.
You glare at him and stick your tongue out, causing him to immediately revoke his previous comment for you. “We’re not that bad.” You grunt out. Jin laughs next to you, high pitched and loud.
“We kind of are Y/N.” He muses, staring at you deeply. You’re about to ask if there’s something on your face when he suddenly reaches out and wipes away some flour on your cheek with his thumb. Dumbstruck, you’re not entirely sure what to do and turn away to busy yourself with cleaning the bowls, cheeks flaming red.
It’s only been around an hour since the cheesecake finished baking and both Jin and you complain at the fact the guys won’t let them rest properly. They promptly ignore you and begin to cut into your masterpieces eagerly.
“They’re not going to taste as good as it would if you leave it! You’re not doing it right – dammit Jungkook!” You curse the younger man as he stuffs his mouth with a large piece. He simply grins at you, causing you to pull a face as his teeth are stained with chocolate.
A groan leaves him as his eyes flutter shut and Jimin makes the same noise next to him. On the other side of the table, Taehyung and Hoseok are also apparently having a sexual awakening as they try Jin’s.
Yoongi and Namjoon are too busy trying to stuff their face full of brownies, alternating between the two bakers. Both Jin and you stand there, antsy and impatiently awaiting their results before you both decide to try each other’s food as well.
You begrudgingly congratulate Jin, noting that his food tastes as delicious as he boasts. In fact it takes everything inside you to stop yourself your moaning at the burst of flavours on your tongue and you curse the fact that the man is not only wildly attractive but also unbelievably talented in the kitchen.
It takes a few more minutes of moaning, to which you ask them if they could wait until you leave the room for them to reach completion, before they finally discuss their opinions quietly on the other side of the room before giving their verdict.
Standing in front of you, they all look just a little blissed out from the food they’d just inhaled, and Jungkook looks like he might vibrate through the floor from his sugar overdose.
“Honestly, you both win. How are we supposed to choose between perfection?” Namjoon states, grinning as he grabs what must be his fourth cookie. Taehyung nods his head in agreement as he reaches for another brownie. Everything is almost gone already.
Both Jin and you stand in shock before you both begin to complain loudly at the unfairness of it all. “Why bother making us compete if you weren’t going to give the winner to one of us?” You glare at Jimin, causing an impish grin to spread across his face.
“Honestly, we just wanted some damn good food and we did say that we don’t care who wins. Besides! You both worked pretty well together, there was far less arguing than we thought so…everyone’s a winner right?” You grumble as you shove one of the remaining brownies into your own mouth, mentally cursing out everyone in the kitchen.
Jin chuckles suddenly and you glare at him. “Why are you laughing? You didn’t win either! We just basically made these empty pits food! All that effort wasted.” You gesture towards the boys, noting that none of them seem that bothered by your irritated words.
“I don’t know why you expected any different from them.” He states the obvious, raising his eyebrow at you. “Besides, it means I got to spend some time with you.”
You’re choking on your brownie then as the guys all ooh softly in the background, grins plastered on all their faces. With wide eyes, you look back at him and wonder if you’d just heard him right. Jin had always flirted with you, but you’d always thought it was just him being funny like always.
As you go to open your mouth to question him, he suddenly leans forward and seals his lips to yours. Shock renders you still as Jin’s soft, pliant lips move over your own, causing your eyes to flutter shut while Taehyung screams out “Finally!” in the background.
Jin pulls away slowly and gives you a grin, his eyes flickering down before a finger coming up to wipe away something from your bottom lip. He lifts it up to show you the chocolate now on his finger before sucking it into his mouth.
“Do you want to go on a date with me? I think we could bake each other really happy.” He murmurs softly, a grin spreading over his face as you go from swooning to frowning at his pun. Instead of responding to him verbally, you give him your answer by simply pulling him back down.

prince jungkook
okay everyone i have requests piling on up but good old clinical mental health problems™ are kind of yikes
but royalty au is my FAVORITE you have no idea like it's my fave au besides ouran but like au ohdaibljarh i love it
jungkook is leo lmao jk
so this kingdom is going to be a total rip off of nohr because i love my emo son leo and his dumb retainers
jungkook is the baby of his family, the youngest lil prince in the castle
he's kind of spoiled rotten honestly because his older brothers absolutely adore him, and they shower him in more attention than he knows what to do with
like he could bat an eyelash and hoseok would be at his side, asking if he needed anything
whenever he wants to practice his sparring, yoongi immediately stops whatever they're doing to help with bow and arrow practice or sword skills
jimin ALWAYS sneaks him pastries and buns from the kitchen
speaking of which pineapple buns?? ten out of ten would recommend
and while the princes are beautiful and kind and soft the kingdom itself is not
it's a dark kingdom, a rainy kingdom, where the sun rarely seems to shine
the main focus of the kingdom is agriculture, even though that's always a bust because of the terrible climate
they really make more money through weapon sales and trade all that good stuff
even though the kingdom is kind of tight on money yikes
but it's not like falling to shambles, not at all
the king runs a very tight schedule, and things are very organized, very controlled, very well run
yoongi is next in line for the throne, but the king totally favors jungkook and low key tries to give him more power than the other princes
but jungkook doesn't want that!! he just wants to chill with all his brothers and have a good time!!
okay let's get on with the story because i had a quality idea and boy howdy i sure forget things fast
alright, so the princes are making one of their daily visits to the town
but disguised, because things are no fun when everyone is bowing and trying to kiss your feet
cliche--- but i love it--- they have the really large cloaks and they just keep the cowls up because that would totally work
lol it does in this scenario
they love to look at the local produce, drink cheap ale at the local tavern, play tag with the local kids, and just interact with their people
not something the king does everyday lmao
today, it's rather cold, and jungkook can see that winter is coming by the way frost crawls up the trunks of trees, the way the birds have already started flying south, the way more and more shops close their doors to ward off the wintery winds
the boys still like to visit around town though
jungkook especially loves seeing the transformed landscape
as the youngest prince, he's usually cooped up indoors, listening to his tutor drone on about the influence of naval power upon the world, or balancing books on his head to maintain great posture or some other bs
so he loves being outside to see the pond freeze over, or the dirt start to be painted white due to the little snowflakes
he doesn't like seeing so many people so worried about their futures though
like i said, poorer kingdom, so most of the people suffer through the cold months with one blanket for a family of five, and half a loaf of bread amongst them
jungkook always tries to give people money, but yoongi tells him that's only temporary aid and he will make changes once he's in power
that doesn't ease the hurt in jungkook’s heart though
anyway they're in town right, and the middle two boys have gone off to god knows where, leaving yoongi and jungkook to themselves
they're in the middle of town, strolling amongst the various vendors, examining all the goods made available to them
out of the corner of his eye, he watches someone dart towards the bakers cart
there's a loud crash and jungkook spins around to see you on the ground, loaf of bread tucked under your arm
someone starts shouting and you push yourself off the ground, trying to desperately run for your life
a few soldiers start chasing after you and you're running fast, so fast, you don't pay attention to your surroundings and completely slam into jungkook, causing you to once again fall on your butt
one of the soldiers grabs your a and yanks you to your feet
“common filth like you ought to spend the rest of your days in prison, rotting away until the rats-”
“that's enough.” jungkook snaps
“and who are you to tell me what to do?” the guard laughs
jungkook throws off his hood and the guards immediately fall to their knees, begging mercy
jungkook gives you a soft smile, then devotes his attention to the guards
“how DARE you touch my servant like that.”
“your highness, you must be mistaken, this is a common criminal-”
“no, they are my servant, chosen by me to trust the security of this place. you know our enemies could attack whenever and wherever, and i need you to be on your best watch. clearly, you passed my simple test, and you shall be rewarded for it.” jungkook says, haughty tone to his voice.
he pulls a few coins from his change purse and tosses them to the baker
yoongi watches on silently, thinking of all the various ways he's going to beat jungkook’s insolent little ass tonight
you're shaking, badly, and you can't believe you were just saved by one of the princes, let alone the cutest one
jungkook turns on his heel to leave, and you're like oh gods i need to thank him--
he turns his head “why are you just standing there? no servant of mine should be wasting time, gaping like a complete idiot.”
yoongi: boy what the f u c k
and that's where you find yourself later that evening, standing in jungkook’s room, freshly washed up and dressed in an outfit finer than anything you've seen, let alone worn in your entire life
“i've never had a servant close to my age.” jungkook is sitting on the edge of his bed, kicking his legs back and forth. “this will be fun i think. you're bound to be infinitely better than the boring old ladies that watch over me.”
you're too frightened to speak, so you stand there silently, shoulders tensed, eyes wide, hands clasped in front of you, trying to look anywhere but jungkook
“well come on, aren't you going to tell me your name?”
and so you do, sheepishly, so quiet that jungkook has to ask again
he nods when he finally hears you and then he kinda gets silent because yes he's the prince but he's kind of shy when it actually comes down to talking to people close to him in age
he starts kicking his legs again and then he gives you a quick look over
“well i guess i'll have to find someone to train you…” he says with a sigh
and you're like excuse me what you're the one who picked me off the street honey
but you can’t actually say that to him because like that shiz could get you beheaded or something and that is not what you need in life oh no
so you just kind of follow behind silently as he leads you off to where all the royal butlers and maids hang out and do their training mm hmmm
and when jungkook leads you in everyone is like ooh what’s up with the prince ooh look at the lil cutie he’s brought in
and they’re all like old so they can tease him like that because they practically raised this boy??
jungkook gets all red and he starts to stammer how it’s not like that and how he just wanted someone closer in age to serve him
and he just is like gotta blast sorry everyone
and so he leaves right away, not even giving you a good bye
you blink and all the servants swarm you, asking how you got jungkook to fall in love with you so quickly and you’re like in love what does that meaN
after all their inspecting and gossip about you, they actually get down to business about what you gotta do for jungkook as his new personal maid/butler
it seems simple
you have to accompany him to all his meetings, whether they be negotiations, tutoring lessons, or even dinner
you’re supposed to stay back and be like a shadow, just keeping an eye in case the dearest prince should ever need something
you also have to serve him tea in the afternoons, or at least, know how to
you need to help him dress in the morning and at first you’re like red in the face, sweating nervously, stuttering because what???
but the servants tell you that this job is only for really formal occasions, like when foreign princes and princesses come to visit and jungkook is too impatient to figure out how to wear his sash smh
basically you have to attend to his every need and you’re like great, i cannot wait, i’m ecstatic
or maybe, every time you touch, you feel the static (w/jungkook) and that’s why you’re so excited mm hmm
rijijaijajirt anyway
you’re super nervous especially since you just came off the streets, literally, like you have no social status or skills or ability to actually serve jungkook well
you’re like i will be beheaded within five days
you get the rundown on the whole thing, the whole job thing
and then the servants take you down to the servants’ quarters so you can set up a bed and sleep early so you’re well rested for the big day tomorrow
you set up a little spot in the corner of your room, and you’re like alright, i just need to sleep and maybe i’ll realize this is all a dream
nah fam
it’s not
because in burst jungkook, forlorn and confused look on his face
the servants are all rushing to bow and like ask what the deal is because royalty are so above entering the servants’ quarters (save hoseok who likes to come down every morning and say hi)
and jungkook points at you all accusing “aren’t you coming back? it’s been like three hours, you’re supposed to be back”
you look around at all the servants because “y’all just said i could sleep”
but they shrug and start to shoot each other looks and you realize that it’s ‘me against the world’
wow getting all the iconic songs in here tonight
you try to hide yourself in the corner but jungkook has obviously spotted you and he gives you this look
“i need your assistance, isn’t that your job? to assist me?”
you inwardly groan but give a nod of the head because this boy did save your life, you kinda owe him big time
“come on then!”
jungkook turns on his heel and you follow close behind, the other servants giving you winks and grins as you walk by
jungkook takes you back to his room and you’re like what it is late and i am tired and-
he just plops down on his bed and crosses his legs criss cross apple sauce and smiles all cute and you feel your heart start to stir at the innocence of him
“i want you to read to me.”
“you what now.”
“are you questioning me?”
“i mean, of course. which book your highness?”
jungkook points to one over on his night stand and you pick it up and inwardly stab yourself because it’s a history book about famous battles of lost kingdoms
jungkook looks so excited though and his eyes light up and you’re like oh my god fine…
you don’t know where to stand though and you kind of stand there awkwardly and open the book but it feels like you’re preaching to him or something
jungkook rolls his eyes and scoots over on the huge canopy bed and pats the now empty space beside him
“when i was little, my brothers would always read to me. yoongi was the worst. he always spoke all monotone and he would tell me horror stories and i would cry and then jimin would have to calm me down. yoongi is mean.”
when you don’t take the seat, he turns his head “i command you sit next to me.”
so you take a reluctant seat beside him with the heavy book still in your arms, doing your best not to look over at jungkook because you know that it’s wrong to look royalty in the eye let alone touch them
or like, idk, sit on their bed
while they are also sitting on the said bed
“hoseok was the best at reading. whenever he would read me fairy tales, he would change voices for all the characters!! he would always make them so exciting and give everything a happy ending…”
“so you have three brothers then?” you ask slowly, knowing that you’re not supposed to address jungkook so… familiarly
“three. i’m the baby. me and hoseok have the same mom, so maybe that’s why he likes me the most.” jungkook turns to face you. “but yoongi is the only son of the actual queen. so he’s the one who’s next in line obviously. he’s the one who was out with me! he likes me a lot too. jimin likes me too.”
“everyone likes you it seems.”
“i hope so.”
you two fall silent but it’s not really uncomfortable, just wary, because you two are in very distinct and separate roles that should never ever be more than a prince and servant, like they shouldn’t ever grow beyond that
but jungkook seems so… genuine? he saved your life and he treats you like an equal already, going as far to talk to you so openly about his family and everything? amazing, what a hero
anyway monsta x hero japanese version actually flows very nicely and you can tell they put a lot in time into making the japanese work with the music and beat so check it out my dudes
also anyone trying to go their concert…
okay anyway you start reading and it’s the most boring and dry thing you have ever read in your entire freaking life and you just wanna fall asleep but jungkook seems pretty fascinated so you keep going for his sake
it’s really pretty bad like you have no idea what pineapples have to do with warfare but they’re a pretty key role in this book
jungkook is practically leaning on your shoulder now because he wants to see all twenty seven of the pictures and he’s so excited by them
“it’s because, since i won’t have to get married because our kingdom pisses everyone off, i’ll probably be commander of the army or something. when yoongi steps down i mean. because he’s the one who has to be married, because he’s the only non-bastard son, ya know?”
you glance over at him “but aren’t you scared?”
“no. i live on adrenaline.”
and as you serve jungkook more and more you find that to be true
jungkook does whatever he wants whenever he wants
like one day you’re bringing him the afternoon tea and he’s busy messing around with his loyal doggy that you have to be like “yO YOUR HIGHNESS”
“you can just call me jungkook you know”
he’s bored and wants someone to spar? well it’s time to hop on yoongi’s bed and smash him until he can’t breathe
it’s cold in the castle? time to go and steal all of hoseok’s clothes? (which often end up having to be mended because hoseok is so thin and jungkook is so muscular that… rip (get it because he’s ripped, and the clothes rip…)
where did all of jimin’s dessert pastries go? oh wait they’re stuffed in jungkook’s cheeks
most of your days are spent trying to keep jungkook out of trouble rather than actually helping him do anything
jungkook doesn’t do it to be mischievous or anything, it’s mostly because he wants the attention of his older brothers who are all suddenly too busy to pay much attention to him anymore
he doesn’t actually say that but you can tell
he keeps interrupting literally anything they do and yes they love jungkook but it’s hard to work when he’s disrupting everything
jungkook ends up being such a disturbance that he ends up in solitary confinement
seriously
the king has done had it with jungkook, which is rare, and he tells him he needs to stay in his room until he learns how to behave
jungkook whines and complains but then he figures out you’re basically trapped with him so he’s pretty okay
“chess?’ is the first thing he suggests
“is the purpose to get rid of the king?”
and instead of screaming nOOoOOoooOOooooooOOOoo like casey, the resident asshole of my math class, he offers to teach you how to play since you two have like all the time in the world
all the time in the world being until dinner later that evening
you two sit down in the spacious room and he sets up the chess board
the pieces are glass, and they’re so intricate and beautifully carved and you’re so scared that you might break them or something but jungkook reassures you that everything will be okay and that they would want to be used
he tosses you your queen or king and with a wink goes “wow look the chess piece that represents you”
“wow, did jimin teach you that one?”
“yoongi actually”
“wow, impressive”
you can’t help but blush as you set up your pieces though
you still have no idea how to play though, and you sit there kind of dumbly as jungkook poises, ready to move his first piece
“oh, how could i forget?”
he starts going over all the pieces, and how many spaces they can move and how, and how the game actually works and i’m not actually sure because nobody would answer me in math today smh
but then
then he grabs your hand and delicately guides your fingers to move your first piece and now your heart is racing and your face must be red as the draping over his bed but you try to keep it cook because servants can’t just up and fall in love with their princes, that’s not allowed
oops too late i guess…
jungkook is bad at chess because he’s impatient and he doesn’t really like to take much time planning his moves
which is okay in your book because he likes it’s cute to see him get worked up and puff his cheeks out when you take out one of his pieces
i have the ap language exam tomorrow wait a second
he complains and whines and tells you that you’re cheating by distracting him but he just doesn’t like to lose
but he wants you to win because your eyes light up and you get all smiley when you take another one of his pieces and wow he is in love
he is in like, love is a big commitment and hoseok already warned him that their father would be furious if jungkook fell for you, even if he is the favorite son
jungkook told hoseok that nothing like that would ever happen but lol here we are my dudes, here we are
after you crush jungkook in chess, he decides that the next best thing to do to win his honor back is play you in dice
which he also loses at because he likes seeing your smile too much and his honor is something he’s willing to sacrifice if you’re happy in the end
“i’m so sad that i lost, maybe you should make it up to me.” jungkook pouts, flinging himself onto his bed dramatically soon afterward
“well what did you have in mind?”
“tell me a story.”
so you walk over to his bookcase, the one full of tales of old, and reach out to grab the history of war for what has to be the millionth time
but jungkook stops you with a soft, “no, from your head.”
like so many times before he pats the empty seat beside him, and you take your seat, snuggling you back up to the fluffy pillows
you take a deep breath and begin
“there once was a prince in a far away kingdom, with dragons and warlocks and pegauss knights. he was youthful and bright, with eyes like a deer and the curiosity of one too. he had the sweetest smile and the chubbiest cheeks and his nose was too big for his face, but in an endearing, adorable sort of way. the prince was adored by everyone, from his father, to his brothers, to the townspeople. everyone had heard of his skill with a sword, his knowledge of the worlds around him, but mostly his kindness that stretched even to the most lowly of people.”
you expect jungkook to say something saucy in remark but he listens with rapt attention, his gaze focused on you and you alone
“the prince loved everyone, but he couldn’t seem to ever find it in his heart to believe in himself.”
you know this to be true about jungkook
you’ve watched him spend countless hours sparring, and then beating himself up about messing up one move out of seven million, then pick his sword back up to practice once again
you see him as he preens and preps to dress more like yoongi, to walk more like hoseok, to converse more like jimin in the most subtle ways possible
he constantly finds things about himself to pick apart, and it breaks your heart
“the prince was always so busy caring for others, that he forgot to care for himself.”
jungkook rests his head on your shoulder and inhales slowly
you take a deep breath
you close your eyes
and then you take your hand in his, intertwining your fingers
jungkook gives your hand a tight squeeze
the story continues, and then the story soon ends, though jungkook has fallen asleep on your shoulder and will not hear of how the prince and his ever loyal servant end up with the happiest of endings
“and they lived happily ever after.” you whisper, leaning down and kissing the top of his head
you don’t remember drifting off but you sure as heck do, because the next thing you hear is hoseok’s shrieking
like shrieking as in he probably get stabbed and the castle is under attack
you go to get up but there is an arm around your torso and a face buried in your back and you’re finally piecing everything together
“jungkook, you gotta let go-”
another horrified shriek from hoseok
“i mean your highness------”
hoseok runs over to the two of you and shakes jungkook awake
“hurry up, if you two are in love which by the looks of it, you are, there’s only a limited amount of time that i can marry you before father finds out. i may not be ordained, but i could bullshit my way through it”
jungkook pushes himself up groggily and stares down at you because what are you doing here??
oh wait a second
hoseok is pulling at both of your arms but it’s too late, in walks the king, with jimin and yoongi pulling at his arms to try and stop him
the king stares at the scene, at hoseok trying to block to you, at jungkook yawning with his arm still around your waist, at your absolutely horrified face
“jungkook”
“father no, wait-”
“this isn’t your battle to fight hoseok, now leave”
“father, pl-”
“i said LEAVE”
the other three princes scurry out and now it’s just you, jungkook, and the king
he’s an intimidating man, muscular as jungkook, but with a hard face and sharp features
you and jungkook rush to stand up and bow, you avoiding his gaze at all costs
the king walks over and commands you both to stand
you’re trembling now and jungkook holds onto your hand in an attempt to somehow reassure you, but it’s not happening because you feel like you’re about to break down in tears now
the king won’t say anything and it seems like time has frozen completely
but then he pulls jungkook into his arms and hugs him tightly
you’re both in shock to say the least
the king hugs jungkook tighter “my precious son, how you’ve grown”
and then the king pulls you into his arms and now it’s a family hug and you’re wondering why this is happening and how he is okay with this but then you remember that jungkook’s mother was a maid
and suddenly things are starting to make more sense
“father, i… i love them”
“as i’ve noticed my boy.”
jungkook nods and you can see the tears in his eyes, and you can see the tears in his father’s eyes
“i remember when you were first born… you were so small, so helpless… now look at you, pulling the same tricks i did when i first met your mother.”
he ruffles jungkook’s hair and now all of you are laughing softly, at ease at the way the situation played out
hoseok pokes his head in the door “so when’s the wedding?”
yes, there is a wedding
a grand and beautiful wedding to which the entire kingdom is invited to attend
complete with thousands and thousands of flowers
with a giant cake that jimin keeps trying to swipe icing off of
with hoseok sobbing his eyes out and continually trying to pull jungkook into a tight and bone-crushing hug
with yoongi being the one who volunteers to walk you down the aisle
and yes, jungkook is too impatient to figure out just how to put his suit on correctly, sash and all
your hands are shaking as you fix the crown atop his head
and your hands are shaking hours later when he slips the silver band onto your finger
and yes, they are still shaking when you cup his face in your hands and lean in for your first kiss with the boy you are going to spend the rest of your life with

“I think there’s been a mistake,” he says, still scooting back until his back hits the armrest. “I-I thought we were going to network? Maybe workshop?” Jeongguk looks at him with so much confusion but also like he lost his mind. “You went on Grindr… looking for a networking partner?” The way he asks the question makes Namjoon feel like he’s missing some very important information about the app. “Y-yeah?”
or, alternatively
Namjoon and Jeongguk meet up. Namjoon thinks it's for networking while Jeongguk thinks it's a booty call. Neither get what they signed up for.
