About Ardyn’s scarf

Some time ago I tried to understand the meaning of Ardyn’s crazy outfit. Since Episode Ardyn, we know that the multiple layers are here to protect his daemonic skin from the sunlight…but I’ve always remained curious about his scarf.

In fact, it seems to have nothing to do with the rest of the outfit and the character: Ardyn as he appears in FFXV represents darkness, so why giving him a bright red scarf with golden embroideries which are, in symbolic terms, opposite?

Here is my headcanon: because it is linked to Aera.

First, the golden stich patterns can evoke Aera’s blond hair and accessories, and then the color red can correspond to the scarlet cloak she wore when they met in the anime. But what definitely convinced me was the embroideries, and more specifically this one:

This pattern always reminded me about the Cancer astrological sign (June22-July22):

  And guess what sign Aera is supposed to be…? She was born on the 4th of July so, yes, she is a Cancer.

I’m pretty sure these two things aren’t correlated at all since Ardyn’s design was made long before Aera was even created, but personally I chose to believe that Ardyn’s scarf is a reminder of his past lover. It adds even more tragedy to Ardyn’s character and, you know, it’s just too cute to think that their love is still alive after 2000 years ^^

Getting to Know Him

The Cancer guy is super sensitive, and often grows up shy. How open he is depends on whether he's learned that it's ok to trust others. The older Cancer wears a protective shell, and often appears aloof. But inside, he's still that same softy with the big heart.

On the Bright Side, he is gentle, protective, home-oriented, great with kids, marriage material, a family man, devoted, domestic, loving, intuitive and sentimentally romantic.
