My contribution for the love theme!!! Julien and Maurice are so precious in AHKJ 🥹💖💖💖 And this is one of my favorite 80s songs and listening to it hit me with the inspiration because it really fits them so so well!!!

the reality: it's funny if maurice is dumb sometimes :)

my brain: taken all together it paints a captivating character portrait because maurice is the straight man and voice-of-reason archetype, so what does it say about him that he can be such a sucker for king julien's obvious ploys?? he shows a recurring, willful double standard or blind spot for julien's worse nature. he also has a need for affirmation and appreciation that often isn't met, so it's a powerful motivator. especially when he wants it from julien specifically.

and what about the times when maurice must see that julien is trying to manipulate him, yet goes along with it anyway? there's an element where maurice is a pushover and enabler, but also one where he will still accept praise even when he knows it's given disingenuously. he actually wants it so badly he can be moved by it as much as if it had been said with no ulterior motive. tpom and ahkj were not written with each other in mind, but together their idiosyncracies do create a compelling amalgamation you see
