Conspiracy theory time:

The minecraft movie trailer is fake. The producers saw what happened with the sonic movie (everyone talked about it being bad, then got happy when they were able to change sonics design) and are trying to do something similar.

They make a dogshit trailer so people will talk about how bad it is, only for them to change some stuff and make it seem like they "listened to the fans" and get more seats on the theater.

I rather believe this than believe the movie is just Jumanji 2 in minecraft. There's no way they saw that shit and the test audience didn't complain.

Tho if I'm right (if we see a new trailer soon that is completely changed) it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Because it's gonna encourage hollywood to not make good trailers and instead focus on rage bait.

I've seen a lot of people talking about the Minecraft movie recently, so I decided to do my input too.

The basic Minecraft prelude is that the main character wakes up completely alone in a world with monsters and has to learn how to survive on their own. Honestly, this is just the perfect scenario for one of the best horror movies that could be produced this year, instead of that terrible scenario with a jumanji ahh atmosphere.

Over the years, many Minecraft fans or just people that had at least a bit of overall knowledge about the game have pointed out how Minecraft would be such a great/is a horror game. Many players have stated that they feel like they're being watched when playing Minecraft alone, and I'm not even talking about Herobrine, just the game's overall atmosphere. Minecraft is known for making you feel alone and vulnerable, in a world you don't know the limits of nor what you can find on said limits.

And don't even get me started on the monsters. Have you seem them?? Like

Obviously, some of the designs could use some improvement, but wouldn't these be horrifying sights to see at night in a place where you are completely alone and vulnerable?

Not only that, but what about the villagers? I like to imagine that in the world of Minecraft, the villagers don't even speak the main character's (aka the player's) language, being only able to make incomprehensible noises that you aren't able to decipher. They live in that universe since they were born, and see all of the absurdity of that place as something completely normal. Zombies? Oh, they're fine, they come here from time to time. Stay at home at night and you'll be fine. Unexistent gravity? Wait, what do you mean by gravity? Pillagers? Stay out of their way and you'll be fine.

All that while the main character questions their own sanity and tries to survive in a new world full of foreign dangers to them, the only fellow humans being people that don't seem to even be able to think for themselves. I can totally see them losing their sanity little by little while sucumbbing to the vile world around them that apparently really doesn't wants them there.

And in case they decided to insert the Herobrine, thinks would get even scarier. Imagine not only living in such a horrifying world, but also knowing there's someone or something watching you at all times, being completely aware of every single one of your movements, every step, every breath you take, and as if that wasn't already bad enough, that creature has your exact appearance, with the exception of its eyes being completely blank and having a white void where its pupils should be.

Reading the tags of your recent Kunoichi Turtles post that Female Casey has a bit of a flirtatious personality has led me to headcanon that when Lavinia starts crushing on David (I think that’s Mona’s genderbent name in your AU?) she goes to Casey for advice and tips on how to flirt with a boy but when actually trying to use the flirting tips on David she fails miserably (like that flirting lesson scene from the movie Jumanji), but unknowingly to Vinnie the bad flirting worked and David is smitten XD

AHAHAHA! XD I would literally cry from second hand embarrassment if an episode like that existed. Maybe, maybe, I can see that happening a few "episodes" after David's first introduced into the story, after Vin finally comes to terms with her emotions. Because in this version the relationship progresses slowly over the course of like a season and a half (a lot of that due to David only visiting when his job demands it), and Vin has cold feet like for most of that time lol

David is the one who gets smitten with Vin first in my story and starts making subtle advances while Vin is completely on edge and skeptical of them and needs a while to realize that he actually likes her in a romantic sense, for real, and doesn't have some ulterior motive. After that she's just very awkward and tongue-tied about it.

You know how Raph kept telling Donnie to give up on his crush because they're all giant mutants that won't ever get a chance at love? I wanted to put attention on that part from canon since the show didn't give me that with the canon Ramona. Raph being a teenage girl can only make that mind-set worse, giving him/her more insecurity and self-hatred. Especially since Vin is the biggest of her sisters and the least "cute" and feminine of them. So I don't see her making the first move in any situation, and I think she'd only flirt after it would be made clear the other person feels the same way.

Ahh, sorry, that got a bit serious maybe. The two actually have a really sweet and healthy relationship (y'know, in my head, where it's been living rent free for years now lol), Lavinia just has to work out some things first before she's angst free.

In this AU we first meet David in the episode Newtralized, where David and Sal are trying to arrest the Newtralizer. Slash is there (he's an all-time baddie in this version), Vin gets captured thanks to David getting in the way of the fight, David feels responsible and goes to save her -> bla bla bla -> Vin has a rescued princess moment that she doesn't know how to feel about...

I've been trying to make this episode into an actual fic for the longest time. On the topic of Casey, I'm showing you a short section from the wip. It takes place toward the end when they've all reunited. I think it's also a good example on why Vin would not go to Casey for romantic advice XD

Casey leans in close to her face, her hooded eyes joining her friend’s thoughtful gaze on the young Salamandrian on the other side of the rooftop who is currently listening to his veteran commander going over what had happened while they were split up.

“Look at him standing there,” she says to her smoothly, almost whispering into her ear, “dark skin over toned muscle. Those abs, man.”

“Casey!” Vin cries out in shock and horror and swings around to face her friend’s smug smile.

“Like a chiseled renaissance statue,” Sofie helps with uncharacteristic coyness to her smile.

“Sofie, no!”

All four of the girls are grinning like Cheshire Cats at Lavinia’s discomfort, enjoying themselves way too much. Vin’s cheeks and nose are thoroughly covered in a deep blush and she hates that it’s there in the first place. She doesn’t even like the guy.

“David the Statuesque! That’s what I’m naming him.” Marie exclaims, sounding proud of herself for that one. “I was going to go with something more fun but since he’s your knight in shining armor—Literally!—I gotta be respectful.”

Vin can’t even hide her tortured grimace. Her shoulders sag and she sighs miserably. “I hate you guys.”

Ahh...since always I think. I used to be on DeviantArt (I wasn't very good lmao) then at 20 I decided to be more serious and really learn. Or at least try. In 2018 I joined twitter then a year later I was in art school and it greatly improved my level. I graduated in 2021 but I never stopped studying. I still have troubles with the basics and my anatomy skills could be better (let's not mention my awful colours) but I do try, everyday to learn something new but first and foremost always have fun with art. Because if you're not enjoying what you're doing, what's the point ?

The Nanny, Paulie the Parrot (instant tear-jerker. I still have the VHS) Kill Bill, Resevoir Dogs, Robocop, The Fly, Dogma, Starship troopers (hilarious), Galaxy Quest (oh...Alan Rickman) Jumanji, Mathilda, Sisters Act, The Devil wears Prada, The princess's diaries, The Grand Budapest Hotel...(and all the action movies I watched thanks to my father) let's not forget the animated movies that deserved better and changed my brain chemistry : Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Sinbad...

And there's more. The thing is, that question is so difficult to answer. It's like asking me what's your favourite color ? I simply can't just pick one...I love green and yellow but we also need orange and purple and blue ! Movies are like colours and I just need as many shades as possible in my life, otherwise I'd get bored ! I don't know if I'm making sense 🥴

Ahh okay every listen up I just had a genius idea.  Blood in the bayou Jumanji au.

So I’m thinking less of a board game and more of a dnd campaign come to life thing. Like they get into town and start playing their game. But once they start playing they realized it’s cursed and oh no there’s bug monsters and the on,y way to stop it is to finish their one shot. And the Rolan can be the friend that got sucked into the game and then returns back, after living in a hell world for the past 10 years. Then same as the movie they team up and learn the power of friendship and win the game just in time . Fin

Rewriting The Minecraft Movie because what the hell is that...

I'm sure you've all seen the Minecraft Trailer at this point, who hasn't, honestly. Like everyone else, I feel absolutely disappointed, almost insulted by what the movie seems to be; a pointless cash grab for 6 year old's. 

The CGI looks cheap, the characters look incredibly out of place and why do the animals look like that? Why are they making them boxy and realistic at the same time ? With high resolution fur? it doesn't work. Who made Jason Momoa wear that goofy ahh fit? Why, just so many why’s.

It is possible to do a video game movie adaptation well, we've seen it last year with FNAF. And Sonic...to a degree.

FNAF It was original and yet it felt like it was made by fans for the fans. There were so many small references, things were left unanswered and it also incorporated elements of fan culture. There were guest appearances, fan theories, just features reflecting the fan culture around the game.

Minecraft on the other hand; Jesus. It feels incredibly surface level. Of course you cannot compare the intricacy of the FNAF lore to Minecraft , but I feel like in terms of fandom culture, Minecraft has a greater following and a long running history among the fans. The game is over a decade old after all so the fandom for sure deserves justice. 

Either way, complaints aside, my red flag is that I believe I can do the work of trained professionals better, so hey, why don't I rewrite the Minecraft movie?

I feel like there are 2 routes you can take with this. The fun one and the horror one.Let me explain;

The fun one, similarly to the trailer, is targeted at a younger demographic. I can see it being similar to the Jumanji reboot Movies. 

You have characters transported by some unexplained means into the Minecraft world. 

Like in the trailer, we will keep the main cast as they are; live action. Let's say, for easier production and promotion purposes. However, the scenery will have to change. It cannot be the usual Minecraft look since that would clash with the actors too much. It cannot be the movie look because it looks sloppy, i can't even quite explain why, it looks bad. Maybe because the bright colors clash with each other too much in comparison to the og Minecraft color scheme, where all the colors aren't trying to be so cheerful.

But instead what we can do, and look, here's the first reference to Minecraft culture, is take inspiration from the many texture packs of Minecraft;

The actors would still stand out but it would look less artificial, less out of place.

Back to the plot line, the characters in the game run around all panicky because night is coming, you know, like the classic game play everyone experienced. They slowly start figuring it out, in the process they (and audience simultaneously) get to explore the various biomes of this new world.

There can be references to the creatures and biomes we know, but they can mix it up with some new stuff, like bugs or animals that can be found in texture packs made by fans. 

In the process, they start seeing signs of life, ya know, holes that look suspiciously human, weapons, at the bottom of a deep hole.

They eventually find this person, his name is Steve. See where I'm going with this…

Steve explains that like them, he has been stuck in the game for a while.

We can throw in a nice little reference to the previous Minecraft versions as he describes how the Minecraft world has changed over the times he's been there. From the first simple version of Minecraft, to the recent version of Minecraft, new animals, biomes and all. Steve knows that the longer he stays there, the more the world develops and new potential threats appear. Steve also tells them that he thinks he knows how to get out of the game; by defeating the ender dragon, but he can't do it alone. Now, it transitions to almost a road trip movie, where they need to go through all the steps to find and defeat the ender dragon. 

To be fair, there's a very probable chance that i just described the plot of the Minecraft movie. It's the most cliche, predictable version. It's also somewhat true to Minecraft game plays.  But, I feel like the ‘fun’ movie should not include cliche dialogue and jokes made for 6 year olds.

Yes this might be a movie targeted at kids, but Minecraft also has a very popular and active adult fanbase. These people will go see the movie because it's also their childhood, and these very same people will also make hate videos on it, if this movie flops. So the older audience shouldn't be overlooked! They should be the target demographic of this movie!

Speaking of, we now move on to the horror version. 

This one is more for the adults than the kids now.

You know how many people say that after playing Minecraft on multiplayer, playing single player again feels frighteningly lonely. This would be based on that. So in this version, one single player appears in the Minecraft world.

Since most of the funds wouldn't go into casting A tier actors, they would go into the CGI of the world for example. In this version, you could tell multiple stories simultaneously,

For example different people spawning in different Minecraft biomes. You can have them struggle as they’re attacked, you can have panic as they appear in this lifeless silent world and try to make sense of it.

You can also take it a step further and introduce Minecraft villagers as these stagnant beings that don't really interact with the players until they’re provoked. There's a lot of horror potential there.

It could be backrooms-esque as the players find themselves in these infinite landscapes with no signs of life. For example they could be convinced they're in an enclosure since they can see the mountain's end and the ocean horizon cut short, but whenever they move forward, the front expands and the back vanishes again. 

You can try telling 2 stories from 2 different people's point of view but when they meet, their stories merge into one as they try and figure out where they are and most importantly how to get out together. You could make it a point to highlight how the 2 people were absolutely desperate to hear something, to just escape the drowning silence and when they meet, they’re both so spooked from the overbearing silence, they both make it a point to talk to each other as much as possible to just fill the void with something. 

You can then maybe introduce a third person who’s been there for longer or a lot shorter, how their new perspective would change the dynamic the 2 had developed. And together, again, they try to get out. 

You can maybe bring Minecraft witches in there, Have them be another threat they have to overcome or act as a guide. 

Enderman, zombies...

Maybe, as the minecraft lore suggests, the zombies were once Steves. The players then need to get out before they themselves turn into zombies.

So yes, this movie would also have a lot of potential as a horror or psychological thriller movie. 

All in all, It just depends on which demographic is more important for you. If you're more interested in producing another lifeless cash grab because you know the kids will go, buy the merch and get you money, or are you willing to put in the work and make a legitimately good movie. One that more than 1 demographic can enjoy. 

At the end of the day, maybe we're all haters, and if we look past…everything....we saw in the trailer, there will be a decent movie.

But, if what we saw in the trailer was their best of the best, i don't see it as being much of anything.

Gender in books - Boys edition

Ahh, yes. The only two genders existing.

Books are over saturated with tropes and clichés about cis boys and girls.

So, here’s a list of gendered things that annoy me to the hyperuranion about straight cis boys.

Straight Cis Boys

1. Real men don’t cry

Except,they do. At least in real life. I see SO MANY young boys trying to prove their masculinity through holding back their tears.

Something like this happened in Shadowhunters and the new Jumanji movies.

2. Violence

Yes, I’m talking about After.

I have no idea who might find their partner attractive when they’re so angry and out of control they’re literally smashing their own furniture.

Also, it gives me toxic relationship vibes and might be also very triggering.

3. “You don’t want to be with me” / “I’ll break your heart”

... why are your ocs saying this?! Is it some sort of challenge? What kind of answer does your cis straight boy expect??

4. Obsession

Ah, yes. How romantic of Edward to watch Bella sleep! And how romantic of Mr. Grey to follow ... No.

Being obsessed by their partner is a big ol’ red flag and if they try to control someone else’s life and make them break friendship because of their jealousy, they should be in jail, I don’t make the rules.

If you want to write a jealous oc, you can make them ache for it instead of making them abusive!

Ahh thank you so much! It means a lot to me that’d you’d say that  💕 💕 I definitely do! This is only going to scratch the surface of a lot of mine, but!!

+ His favorite movies as a kid were Back to the Future, The Sandlot, and Hercules.

+ He dressed up as Marty McFly two years in a row for Halloween and he had to tell everyone who he was at his school parties.  

+ He watched Jumanji in theaters when he was 8 and was terrified of the monkeys and the hunter, enough that when his class went to the zoo the next year he refused to go see the monkeys and one of the teachers had to stay with him. (And yes, even at 8, Patrick was upset with himself that he couldn’t even handle seeing them) 

+ Tried soccer for a season but hated it and stuck to baseball and hockey instead.

+ His parents got him a cat when he was younger because a dog was more to handle and they both worked, but they had to take him back (his name was Snickers) because they found out quickly Patrick was allergic. 

+ Hit his temple against an ice maker which resulted in his eyebrow scar.
