l•i•tude — noun •the state or situation of being alone •a lonely or uninhabited place . . i grew up in solitude in the woods, often hating it because i longed for connection with other people. what i had connection with: the trees; cats, dogs, chickens, horses, foxes, deer; characters in the endless books i read; my crazy uncle Chuy; my family. in NYC I find myself craving that solitude & tight-knight connection with nature. loneliness happens. it feels real. this last year has been one of the loneliest but filled with such growth that I hardly recognize the quiet, scared little girl i used to be. my schedule doesn’t allow much time for connection with other people outside of my holding space for yoga students — this can be tough. it sometimes makes me wonder — am i holding space for myself? is anyone else holding space for me? & that’s when the loneliness creeps in. what i’ve discovered about myself is that I feel full, less lonely when i connect with the natural world, when i give myself time to connect with myself. it doesn’t mean i don’t long for emotional, intellectual, & physical connection — i crave it. but i find grounding in settling into my skin, in settling into my own thoughts & emotions. yes — it can be lonely. sit with that loneliness. breathe through it. see what comes up. . . . . #onsolitude #solitude #selfportrait#girlinthewoods #loneliness #yogagram#yogateacher #yogaoffthemat#yogainspiration #forrestyoga #knowyourself#skinnydipping #beingalone #nature#portraitofawoman #badassbabe#strongwomen#womenwhorunwiththewolves#womenwhoexplore #womenwhoempower
