Do you know any good fanfic about why Tommy hated Nucky so much he killed him? I mean, he was a toddler when his parents died and Gillian was sent to an ayslum. So, while he might be resentful at Nucky for intellectual reasons its hard to understand him being so full of personal hatred he was willing to publicly assassinate him and go to jail to see him dead.

Oh ho oh. I have so many thoughts! Thematically I love that Tommy killed Nucky. Nucky’s avarice doomed the Darmodys. Even worse, Nucky cavalierly made decision after decision that doomed Tommy specifically. Not only did he kill Jimmy, but he hid Jimmy’s body. And when Richard asked for help, Nucky could have taken the opportunity to make amends and just told Richard where Jimmy’s body was. Instead he sent Richard to his death.

But story wise it makes no sense. Angela and Jimmy died right after Tommy’s fourth birthday. Richard removed him from Gillian after Tommy’s sixth birthday. Richard was dead by the time Tommy was seven. Julia and Emma, who raised him (I think), didn’t know Jimmy or Nucky. Even Paul Sagorsky, who might’ve heard rumors, would have been dead by Tommy was eight or so.

Richard’s death was probably what finally doomed Tommy, but the writers failed by not telling us how the little boy on his way to Wisconsin became this fifteen year old who knew enough to come after Nucky. The “plot twist” was cheap and messed with what should have been a satisfying ending.

Chalky is such a great character, and he always wears such snazzy suits. And Michael Kenneth Williams is just great. I like him but apparently not in an easily writeable way. Oh well.
