For anyone who saw my post over the weekend about writing a Brettsey & Amelia family feels fic, I am happy to announce that my impulsivity won out and the first 2 chapters are posted on AO3. Feel free to check them out and let me know what you think!
Summary:
Six years ago, Scott asked Sylvie to raise Amelia. She declined, knowing that she wasn’t ready to be a mother and that Amelia needed her father in her life. Now, circumstances have drastically changed and Amelia needs her more than ever. Luckily, she now has her husband and their three kids by her side to make sure that Amelia grows up knowing she has a family to belong to.

Review of 11x22
I haven't done a fire review since 11x2 lol, but this finale was so amazing I'm going to do it once more. And because then all my incoherent brettsey thoughts are all in one area.
I'm going to talk about all the non brettsey stuff first before getting down to that.
I loved that we got my favourite trio all talking and being friends at the beginning there. I just love seeing them be talking and discussing things, especially as that's the thing Fire gets right over the other OCs. And then I also loved seeing Stella and Sylvie talking at night too. AND then them going to see Amber for Sylvie.
I also loved seeing Stella and Casey, one of my favourite friendships ever. I loved seeing Casey reassure Stella and him immediately coming over to help. (Although Dylan is definitely right, Matt being there wasn't just because of that, but Sylvie too).
As soon as Herrmann got that reading my mind went straight to "mouch is getting hurt" and I really wish I was wrong about that. That ending with Mouch, oof it hurts my heart so much and I swear to god they better not kill him.
Although that shoot out!! Intense and amazing. I loved Matt going to distract and telling Boden he's not his boss anymore technically especially because of Boden's face. I also loved Stella going with, and her two truck boys immediately being like yep us too.
I did also really like Stella talking to Boden, even if I'm not totally fine with why. Although I do like that because of what Kelly's mom said to Stella, it makes sense that this is where her mind would go. I also loved that helping Sylvie with Amber made Stella realise she shouldn't just sit and wait, but that she should go to Kelly. And I really hope TK doesn't decide to leave permanently so that we can see Stella hauling Kelly's ass back to Chicago.
Although I am a little worried that if he does, they're going to try and do a little love triangle-esque thing with Violet, Carver and Stella.
And I adored Ritter being a source of reassurance to Kylie AND that she got into the fire academy!!! My girl is going to be a firefighter!
Brettsey
It is so nice to see that this time Matt gave Sylvie a heads up and then seeing his response to her wanting to adopt Julia and him just immediately getting it and supporting her. And I adored how Matt straight away went with them to go talk to Amber and everything he said to her. That man loves her so fucking much!!!
I also loved that it was clear there's still those lingering feelings. Sylvie talking about long distance with Stella and then just all the looks Matt gave Sylvie. And the way he looked when he heard about the breakup. And oof the look when Sylvie got the good news and how he so clearly wanted to be part of that hug and wanted to be her Person again.
And then that ending scene!!!! Matt talking about their first kiss, and then saying he got the ring a year and a half ago! That it wasn't just a recent purchase but that it was when they were still together.
And I'm just going to cry forever about him saying three kids 😭. Him including Griffin and Ben and also just so immediately accepting Julia. And it's in total parallel to Dylan; Matt is at the same place as Sylvie, he wants a family now and he wants it with her.
Literally at the start of this season I never EVER thought we'd get an ending this fucking perfect. That Brettsey will get a proposal!!!
They obviously still have a lot to talk about, and work out, but I definitely think their time apart, and now with Sylvie starting this journey to be Julia's mom, means that they'll be able to work a game plan going forward. Plus, in a year both darden boys will be in college, they've also settled in so it's not like Matt can't visit a bit more, and they can just have a longer engagement and build up their future together, however that may look. If Sylvie moves to him or he comes back ect.

Welcome to my Ted Talk where I discuss how Sylvie Brett is NOT a SLUT!!
She was engaged to Harrison who emotionally abused her wanting her to fit into this doting wife lifestyle and so she left him and pursued her career as a paramedic.
Joe and Sylvie start off as friends and I think was initially draws her to Cruz is that he was different from Harrison so they give a relationship a try but figure out they are better off just friends and this is where we get the beautiful friendship of Joe/otis/Sylvie
She then has an on again off again related with Antonio but he’s in the middle of divorcing his wife so it ends up being messy. Which she knew going into it but she liked him so much she wanted to give their relationship a try. In the end they were at two different places in their lives and called it quits for good.
Her next relationship is with Kyle who is a good guy and someone she could have seen a life with if it didn’t change who she was. He wanted her to become a chaplains wife and stop being a paramedic which is something she’s good at and loves doing. I also feel like she ran from Chicago thinking it was the best thing after Otis died. There was so much pain but then she realized how much she missed the people who had become her family.
Grainger was someone she liked but in the back of her head she couldn’t get Matt out of her head after what happened in 9x02. She wanted it to work with Grainger but her feelings were too strong and Grainger picked up on it.
This is Matt’s spot officially like after I love you but we’ll come back to him later.
Dylan never made any sense to me why she decided to date him. He was the guy she wanted to move on from Casey with but after seeing Matt unexpectedly the feelings were brought up again and then she decided to adopt Julia so Dylan stepped away after noticing how she hasn’t moved on.
Now we are at Matt. Sylvie didn’t sleep with Matt the minute that the divorce was finalized and some people acting like that happened is preposterous. They didn’t even kiss until SEASON 9 and even then Sylvie was thinking about his relationship with gabby by asking the question “if she came back would you leave with her” because she didn’t want to start a relationship with him if there was any chance of him still holding a candle for Gabby. Guess what? It was Matt that tried to fix things after that because he wanted Sylvie. It was Matt that chased her into the street to tell her how much he loves her and no one else. And yet I don’t see any of them placing any blame on Matt. It’s always “sylvie skank this” or “sylvie wh0r€ that”
If we’re counting that’s 7 guys in the span of 12 years. That’s normal. Sylvie didn’t sleep her way through the firehouse and she isn’t the backup plan because Matt can’t have Gabby. I’m sure Gabby is happy in Puerto Rico doing things that she loves and maybe she found love herself. Matt and Sylvie are happy together and sometimes you end up finding who you were meant to be with under your nose all this time but needed to grow as separate people to figure that out.
In conclusion Sylvie Brett is not a slut. Please move on.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Prompt: “Only you.”
Set in season 12
She misses Matt. She really misses him and it’s stupid. It’s stupid to miss the man she’s marrying because they have a real future together now.
This time is nothing like the last stretch of long distance. They have a plan. She’s wearing his ring and they’re adopting a baby. This distance is only temporary, but it never feels temporary.
No matter how many times she reminds herself that this is different, it never feels easier. She’s stuck in the mindset that something will go wrong. Something might happen that will keep him in Portland, and they’ll forever be in a long-distance relationship.
It’s a ridiculous fear, but it’s hard not to worry when she goes home to an empty apartment aside from Julia and wakes up to an empty bed.
She misses Matt and she wants to fast forward the months so he’s back in Chicago for good with their little family.
“Missing Casey?” Violet guesses, just as she pulls 61 onto the apron. She shuts off the ignition and looks at her.
It must be obvious how much she misses him.
Sylvie strokes her bare ring finger with her thumb. She doesn’t wear the diamond on shift because with her luck, she’ll lose it in someone’s body part. She keeps it in her locker during shift, but she finds the distance thing so much more challenging when she isn’t wearing her ring.
It doesn’t really make any sense. Matt is still her fiancé no matter what. He’s made it abundantly clear how much he loves her. He’s even been different this time around with the long distance. She can tell he’s putting in more effort to make her feel loved.
That’s what should matter.
“Yeah,” she admits. “I don’t know. Some days without him here are harder.”
Violet squeezes her arm with a sympathetic frown. “I’m sorry but this is all going to be over soon, right? A few more months.”
Yep, only a few more months. It’s much better than before when she didn’t know if he’d ever come home and back to her.
Maybe someday is right in her grasp this time.
“Right. I know,” Sylvie nods, pasting on a smile. She doesn’t want to be the pathetic girl missing her guy any longer. She did that for a long time before and things are finally different. “I’ll see him in like a month so it’s silly to dwell.”
Violet nods. “See? That’s the spirit. Now let’s go get you some candy to cheer you up.”
Her friend is the best.
Sylvie climbs out the passenger side of the ambulance and follows Violet through the app floor. It’s chilly and she should’ve worn her extra thick CFD coat instead.
“Brett.”
Sylvie stops, turning around just as Severide approaches her. His hands are tucked in his winter coat.
“Severide,” Sylvie greets, hugging her arms around herself. “What’s up?”
His expression isn’t as stoic as it normally is. He almost looks happy, but she imagines it’s because he’s so happy to be home with his wife.
Severide nods his head towards the doors to the common room. “You have a visitor.”
She does? It must be someone from a call here to thank her or something.
“What do they want?” She asks.
He shrugs. “Don’t know, but it seemed pretty important so…”
Huh, that’s nerve wracking. What could be so important? Is it about the adoption? Did the social worker change her mind and deem her as an unfit parent?
Her mind reels with all the horrible possibilities as she heads inside. Severide follows behind her which is peculiar. He almost looks smug.
She’s confused as to why he’s acting so suspicious but the second she crosses the hall; she has her answer.
She stops in her tracks and blinks hard.
Standing next to the dispatch station is Matt. He’s mid conversation with Stella when he sees her. The second he does; he grins at the surprise written all over her face.
“Surprise,” he greets.
She feels like she’s in a dream. Last she talked to him; he was in Portland. He texted her an hour ago asking how her day was. It doesn’t feel real that he’s really here.
Severide chuckles behind her and gives her a nudge forward. “Don’t freeze on him, Brett.”
She stumbles a little and then her body catches up with her brain and heart. He’s here right now. He’s right in front of her when she misses him so much.
Sylvie jumps, throws her arms around his neck and wraps her legs around his torso. Luckily for her, he’s strong enough to steady himself (and her) before they fall.
“Woah, hi,” he laughs. She can feel his smile against her cheek.
“Oh my gosh. I missed you so much,” she whispers, fighting the way her voice breaks at the end. She’s so relieved he’s here that she could cry.
He moves his hand against the back of her head. “I missed you too, baby.”
In hindsight, maybe this reaction is a little extra. It’s not like she hasn’t seen him in years but missing him the way she does takes everything out of her.
Matt tightens his hold on her waist. “Hey, is everything okay?” He’s probably a little confused about why she hasn’t let go yet.
“It is now,” she whispers against his shoulder. She gains her composure and pulls away, taking in his concerned but also happy expression. “How are you here right now?”
He kisses her and then sets her back on her feet. “The firehouse has mandatory maintenance, so it’s closed for twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Ben and Griffin are both adults who like it better when I’m gone so I figured I’d spend a day or two here with you.”
He flew all that way just to spend a small amount of time with her? Her eyes flood with tears over the depth of how much he loves her. He never made this kind of trip before the engagement.
For the first time, it feels like things really have changed for the better.
Matt swipes a tear off her cheek with his thumb. “I missed you like crazy, Sylvie. I hate being so far away from my fiancé.”
God, she loves that title so much. She can’t believe she’s marrying this man.
“I hate being away from you too,” she replies. “I can’t believe you flew all this way just for a couple days.”
“I’d fly all this way for just an hour with you, babe,” he grins, tugging her by her paramedic vest. “Only you.”
That little line definitely does it. She no longer feels so intimidated about the last couple months apart. They are going to crush the long distance for good and start their beautiful life together.
She believes that now more than ever.

a ring to prove it
Tumblr media
Summary - She didn’t know if it was because of the wait since the last time they had been together or if it was the addition of the ring on her finger and the promises of a future together. Whatever it was, it had been hours and she was still tingling. She was back in Matt Casey’s arms and couldn’t be happier.
Notes - a little post 11x22 fic, happy reading! ❤️ AO3 Link
His breathing was steady, his heart rate had calmed from their exertions hours ago and he was peacefully asleep. But she was awake. Her head was resting on his chest, his arms tight around her even in his dreams, her fingers were tracing patterns in his skin remembering the expanses of muscle she had memorised those months before.
Being back in his arms was more than she had ever thought she would experience again. Somewhere along the line she had forgotten just how Matt Casey made her feel. What he made her feel by just being in his presence yes but also how he loved her. She had never fallen as hard off the proverbial cliff as she did when Matt had his hands or tongue on her, when he was inside her. She hadn’t been with anyone that way since she had ended them by a phone call. A phone call she both regretted and knew was the right thing at that moment.
Dylan was nice enough but he didn’t make her want to rip her clothes off the way Matt did. And any pleasure she had given herself even when they were together, it was Matt’s name that passed through her lips when she finished. It was his eyes she saw staring back at her when she closed her eyes.
And last night had been nothing short of mind blowing. She didn’t know if it was because of the wait since the last time they had been together or if it was the addition of the ring on her finger and the promises of a future together. Whatever it was, it had been hours and she was still tingling.
When she opened the door the day before and was greeted by the sight of Matt Casey on the other side, the last thing she had expected was for him to drop down on one knee and ask her to marry him.
‘Sylvie Brett, we were meant to be. Will you make me and three kids the luckiest family in the world and marry me?’
She had clutched at her chest, staring at the man she had wished for so long would do exactly what he was doing now and ask her to spend her life with him. She could see the ring shining in the box but her gaze was fixed directly on him, on his eyes, his smile.
She nodded, how could she do anything else but say yes. This was exactly what she had dreamed of.
‘Yes,’ she said, the tears spilling down her cheeks as Matt’s grin spread wider across his cheeks. She dropped to her knees in front of him, pulling his face to hers and melding their lips together. Her salty tears mingled in the kiss but she didn’t care, she had just said yes to marrying Matt Casey. They were going to be a family. Her, Matt, Ben, Griffin and Julia. Her family.
She let her fingers thread through his hair, it was slightly shorter than it had been at the wedding - the last time she had kissed him. His arms wound tightly around her waist, pulling her close to him from their slightly awkward position kneeling in front of each other.
‘Yes,’ she said in between kisses, ‘yes.’ She felt him grin against her lips and let herself get lost in the familiar sensation of his against hers. It was only when she felt her phone vibrating in the back pocket of her overalls she pulled away.
‘It’s Hermann,’ she said, her lips still swollen from the kiss but she hadn’t been expecting Hermann to call. ‘I better get this,’ Matt nodded, the smile not leaving his face and his arms didn’t relax his hold on her either. She didn’t make an attempt to move away from him as she swiped and answered the call.
Sylvie didn’t think either of them expected to be called to the hospital before Matt even had a chance to slide the ring onto her finger but he had pocketed the box as soon as she had ended the call having heard everything Hermann had said and said he would drive, wrapping her hand in his and leading her out to the car.
The car ride to the hospital was silent, the tears silently streaming down her face that had started as tears of joy were now ones of pain and worry. Matt kept a tight hold of her hand all the way to Med and she was grateful she had him to lean on as neither of them knew what to expect when they arrived. Hermann had sounded scared on the phone, he had tried to tell her he was sure Mouch would be okay but his voice had cracked and Sylvie’s heart had sunk. Mouch couldn’t be dying, she refused to even entertain the idea.
‘I think we shouldn’t tell them,’ she whispered into the silence of the car. ‘About us.’
Matt nodded. ‘I agree, this isn’t the moment.’ He held on a little tighter for the reminder of the journey, her own knuckles were going white at the pressure she was applying back on his.
He went to let go of her hand when they entered but Sylvie couldn’t bring herself to unlink their fingers, she needed him right now, needed the feeling of his warm skin against hers to ground her or else she might lose it. Her words to Matt had originally meant that she thought they should keep the fact they were back together underwraps but the further they walked into the hospital, she realised she just meant the engagement. She couldn’t let go of his hand right now. Wouldn’t let go of it.
No one commented on them walking in together hand in hand, no one said anything at all. The waiting room was eerily silent, their friends scattered around, heads in hands, staring at walls, silently crying. Matt and her joined them, finding two empty chairs and settling down next to Stella. Sylvie reached across and wrapped her other arm around the Lieutenant’s shoulder. No matter how many times they sat in hospital waiting rooms whilst one of their own was hurt - it never got any easier.
Sylvie didn’t know long they sat there, waiting for someone to bring them news. The waiting room was deep in the middle of the hospital with no windows, hours could have passed or it could have been mere minutes before a doctor in black scrubs came out and gave them the news they had been holding their breaths for.
‘He’s going to be okay,’ he said and Sylvie felt like the elephant that had been sitting on her chest constricting her breathing was finally removed. She leant into Matt’s side and let him wrap his arms around her pulling her safely into his chest.
Mouch was going to be okay. And she was going to marry Matt Casey.
——————————————————————————
On the way back to hers from the hospital, Mouch having kicked them all out saying he wasn’t having Chicago’s best sleeping in a waiting room if they didn’t need to, the air was lighter in the car.
‘Did you tell the boys?’ Sylvie wondered aloud.
‘Ben and Griffin?’ Matt clarified. ‘I did.’ He chuckled. ‘They were very excited at even the possibility of us getting back together. Pretty much pushed me out of the house to the airport when I said I was going to propose.’
Sylvie felt her cheeks redden. She had had no issues bonding with Griffin but it had taken time before Ben opened up to her but she had understood. His life hadn’t been easy and enough people had already let him down, he didn’t want to risk getting hurt again. The prospect of them both being back in her life, that they both wanted her back in their lives warmed her heart.
‘I told them about Julia too,’ Matt added with a small smile, glancing across at her as they pulled to a stop at a traffic light.
‘You did?’ Sylvie asked slightly shocked but pleasantly so.
‘Called them once you got the news, it felt right to let them know,’ Matt shrugged.
‘And they were happy about it?’ Sylvie was worried the addition of someone else into their family bubble could cause issues, especially for Ben.
‘Said they were going to spoil her rotten,’ Matt chuckled. ‘Ben said he would teach her how to mountain bike when she’s old enough - it’s his current favourite thing.’
They really were going to be a family, all of them together.
——————————————————————————
Matt stirred awake, groaning slightly as he was brought back into consciousness, his muscles contracting under Sylvie’s touch.
‘Morning,’ he said groggily, smiling down at where she had turned her focus to look up at him from her position on his chest.
‘Good morning,’ she whispered, reaching up to press her lips against his before relaxing back into his hold.
‘I could hear your mind working in my dreams,’ Matt said, stroking his fingers against the bare skin of her hip.
‘Mmm’ she hummed in response.
‘Want to share with the room?’ He asked and she smiled, pressing her face against his chest.
‘I was just thinking about our life,’ she admitted, with anyone else she would have blushed at her words but not with Matt. He always made her feel safe enough to speak truthfully, provided her the space to be exactly who she wanted to be without fear of judgement. She’d not always been so lucky in her past relationships.
Harrison hadn’t really wanted Sylvie Brett, he’d wanted the wife he thought he could mould Sylvie into being. He disliked everything about her that made her her. All the bright and caring aspects that made her who she was. He just wanted her to bend to his wishes and give up everything in her life that she cared about.
Antonio, goodness knows what he had wanted but it wasn’t what she had wanted. That was a relationship doomed to fail from the start, something she thought both of them had luckily realised before it got too late.
Kyle wanted a preacher's wife, he thought he was giving her what she wanted - space away from Chicago after her accident. But that wasn’t her either. She was a Chicago girl now, and that was where she belonged.
But Matt, Matt wanted her exactly how she was, all the blemishes and flaws along with the shiny and good. He supported her through everything, had been her number one cheerleader even before they had realised how they felt about each other. His heart was everything good and Sylvie loved him for it.
‘It's going to be a beautiful life,’ Matt said, bringing up the hand not wrapped around hers to run his fingers over the ring that now graced her left hand.
‘What time is your flight?’ She asked quietly. They’d spoken about him going back to Oregon in between rounds last night when their skin was still tacky with sweat, their legs refusing to untangle themselves.
‘I have to go back to Oregon tomorrow,’ he said into the quiet night air. ‘But only to wrap things up,’ he tightened his hold on her, one hand continuing to trail up and down her bare back. ‘It should only take a couple of weeks.’
‘Okay,’ Sylvie muttered. She knew he wanted to be back in Chicago as much as she wanted him back, he had shown her how much just a moment ago.
‘I agreed with CFD to start teaching at the academy in 6 weeks, they know I want back in the action but teaching will do until they can find me a house,’ he said, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
‘I’ll take you to the airport tomorrow,’ Sylvie said. This wouldn’t be like last time. They had a plan this time. He was coming back to her, he was going to marry her.
‘I think it’s just past midday,’ Matt said and Sylvie chuckled at his vagueness. ‘I’ll check when this beautiful woman lets me out of her bed,’ he said in mock offence at her laugh.
‘I can let you out now if you’d like,’ Sylvie sassed, making a move to untangle herself but Matt groaned and pulled her back against his chest.
‘Never,’ he murmured as he peppered her face with kisses and her soft giggles filled the room.
‘I’ll call you as soon as I land,’ he said as the pair settled back into their embrace, the covers pooling around their waists as his movements had shifted them slightly.
‘Okay,’ she said, resuming tracing patterns against his chest.
‘When will Julia arrive?’ He asked curiously.
‘I think a couple of days,’ Sylvie admitted. ‘Although Amber took back custody, there’s still papers to sign. You know how it is with the DFS.’
‘You’re going to give her the most beautiful life Sylvie,’ Matt murmured against her hair.
‘We are,’ Sylvie corrected him. Although technically she was doing this alone and it was her name on the paperwork, she wanted Matt by her side every step of the way. And she knew he was all in. ‘We are going to have the most wonderful family.’
‘We are,’ Matt said, his words reminiscent of when she had finally admitted her feelings to him in the middle of the night out on the North Apron.
‘We will have the most incredible life, all of us together.’
‘We will.’
‘And we have each other. Forever. We are it for each other.’
‘We are,’ Matt repeated.
Sylvie wasn’t looking forward to saying goodbye to him in just a few hours, but she knew this goodbye would be their last. When he returned, it would be for good. They would be together. She had a ring on her finger to prove it.

I got another prompt from Sand86802 on twitter.
Posting it here again since it isn’t quite long enough for Ao3.
Played with Violet’s POV on this one. Set in a post 11x22 world.
***
“Never take advice from someone who’s falling apart”
+
Location: The El
***
It’s been a while since Sylvie and Violet spent time together off shift. Even longer since Violet spent any considerable time in the presence of both Brett and Casey at the same time.
Tonight, they had an extra ticket to a concert Sylvie had been dying to attend for a Taylor Swift cover band that reimagined the singer’s work in big band or jazz styles. Violet isn’t a swiftie, but she’s always up for new experiences so she took the extra ticket. Originally, she thinks Casey’s sister was supposed to go with them, but she canceled for some reason. Some sort of teaching emergency.
To top it all off, this concert was a part of Brett’s birthday celebration. Her first birthday as a mom and her first time away from Julia for longer than a couple of hours since the baby officially became hers a handful of weeks ago. Confidentially, Casey confided in Violet that he wanted it to be special and so full that Sylvie never had a moment to feel anxious over leaving Julia with Cindy and Herrmann for the evening.
Violet admired his ambition and effort. Even though, in her heart of hearts, she knew no one could stop Sylvie from feeling anxious about leaving her daughter alone.
They’re on their way to the show now. They opted to take the El to save on the parking fee and time spent jammed up in traffic. Violet sits on one side of Brett with Casey on the other.
The recently engaged couple is sickeningly cute. Casey’s arm is slung over Sylvie’s shoulders, pulling her against him. She went willingly, slotting against him as if she was always meant to be there with her back molding to his side and her head resting in the crook of his neck. Casey turns so he can rest his lips against the crown of Sylvie’s head, kissing her sweetly.
Looking at them now, a person would never guess they’d ever been apart.
The train stops and the doors open, allowing a pregnant woman and her toddler to board. They all clock her as she enters the car and, like her, notice there aren’t any available seats.
Casey kisses Brett’s temple and then releases her. “I’m gonna go hold the rail over by the door and let this woman have my seat.”
“You’re amazing,” Sylvie praises, nodding approvingly.
“Let’s not get carried away,” he says with a fond chuckle. “I’m not a saint. It’s just the polite and decent thing to do.”
Sylvie watches him cross the train and point out his vacated seat to the woman with a besotted smile on her face before she scoffs and glances over at Violet. “Not a saint. Of course he’s a saint. I mean, look at him.”
Violet chuckles mutely, watching as the pregnant woman thanks Matt profusely and waddles her way toward them. “I see him. He’s great.”
“I can’t believe I ever thought I could do without him,” she says with a contented sigh. “I mean, what was I thinking? No one holds a candle to that man over there. Not for me anyway.”
Violet bites her bottom lip, an apology slowly clawing its way up her throat. She’s held it at bay so far, but her guilt grows larger every day. Even quicker than normal during the rare instances she’s directly confronted with how truly happy Matt makes her best friend these days.
Sylvie and Dylan were never going to work out. Not when Sylvie’s connection to Matt is as strong as it’s proven to be. Violet should have seen that sooner.
“I’m happy for you, bestie,” Violet says, linking her arm through Sylvie’s. “Since he came back into your life you’ve done nothing but glow.”
“Thank you.” Sylvie lays her head on Violet’s shoulder affectionately. “I felt like a part of me shut down after I broke it off with him. Like losing touch with him meant losing a piece of my heart. I should’ve known then that ending it was a mistake.”
That does it. Violet can’t hold off her apology any longer. Sylvie’s right. She should’ve seen it and she probably would have too if Violet hadn’t interfered.
“I should’ve known it too,” she says, sighing tiredly. “They way I kept pushing you toward Dylan…God, looking back I was so selfish, Sylvie. I’m sorry.”
“What? No, Violet, my struggles with my emotions aren’t on you. Matt and I had things we should’ve dealt with sooner and we ignored them. That’s on us. All you wanted was to see me happy. I get that.”
No, she really doesn’t. “It wasn’t just about you being happy though.”
Sylvie’s smile turns bittersweet. Her expression is empathetic and all knowing. It’s a look from her that’s potent on anyone, even perfect strangers. When Brett gives someone that look, they feel encouraged to spill all their secrets and struggles.
“I know,” Sylvie replies. “It’s okay. Grief manifests itself in all kinds of ways.”
“Dylan and Evan were friends and I guess I—I guess—“
“You wanted to hold onto that piece of him for as long as possible?”
“Yeah,” Violet agrees. “That’s a good way to phrase it. It goes to show you, never take advice from someone who’s falling apart. I was still spiraling hard when we first bumped into Dylan at the hospital. At the time, I thought all the pieces fit, you know? I know now I saw only what I wanted to see. I sent you a long way down the wrong path.”
“I started down that path long before we ran into Dylan, Violet,” Sylvie states, gently correcting her. “Cut yourself some slack. You were still reeling. I know what that can do to a person. Hell, I moved back home and intended to marry a man I barely knew after we lost Otis. My grief over him kept me from realizing I’d made the wrong choice for far too long. If anyone gets it, it’s me. It all worked out in the end. I have Matt, Julia, and the boys. I’m happier than I’ve been in a very long time. That’s all that matters.”
“I guess so.” She wishes she could say the same but, while she’s through the worst of her grief, she’s far from happy.
“You’re gonna find that too, partner,” Sylvie assures her, as if she’s read Violet’s mind. “I know it. No matter what that happiness looks like for you, I am certain it’ll happen. You’re the best so you deserve the best.”
No, Sylvie’s the best. The amount of grace she extends to everyone around her is practically miraculous. “I already have the best friend I could ask for,” Violet says, giving Sylvie a pointed look. “And that’s all the happiness I need for now.”
As cheesy as it sounds, it’s a truth Violet feels deep in her bones. Sylvie’s friendship will always be the gift that keeps on giving.

since episode 6 is brettsey's last. I hope to see a lot of scenes of them together: Matt and sylvie with Julia and just the two of them. I also would have liked Sylvie to get a promotion, but from an interview A.N. did She implied the opposite. she would have deserved it, it would have also been nice for Sylvie and Kara's 10 years of work on the show.
The majority of the episode better be focused on them. Frankly, I’ve had enough of the fandom wars that have been going on the last few weeks, but fuck it. This is Brettsey’s moment. Their wedding. They only had a small scene during Stellaride’s wedding, so I expect the same with Stellaride during Brettsey’s wedding. I’ve seen some pretty selfish people wanting Severide and Kidd to discuss kids because it looks like we’re getting a scene with the two of them and Julia. I’m going to be so mad if A) that happens and B) we don’t get a scene of Casey, Brett, and Julia. And a scene of just Casey and Julia. Oh, and a scene of all of them and the Dardens.
There’s probably too much I want packed in this 42 min or so episode, but we deserve content that we haven’t gotten and probably will never get that other couples have gotten and will continue to get.
I’m not even going to get into the no promotion or recognition thing. Andrea is forever on my shit list for that. I love Violet, but the fact she got recognition a season in (granted only as a plot device to get her and Hawkins together), but nothing for Brett: the longest running female character on the show, pisses me off to no end.
Sorry to go on a bit of a rant…I just need this episode to air so I can leave this toxic fandom.

Andrea has clearly taken a page out of Derek’s book on trolling 🙄 but anywho, I am excited to see a. Brett as a mom and Julia being the 51 baby b. Brett being the badass PIC that she is c. Casey back on our screens
And most importantly, d. SECURING THE BRETTSEY ENDGAME
After she’s gone, I can leave this show in peace <3

Not a fan of Dawson, not a fan of Brett, wanted to add my 3 cents.
Brett used to be afraid that she was the substitute for Dawson and the writers didn’t make it easier for her. We can all argue as much as we want, but so much of brettsey storylines were used for Dawsey. Come on, wedding reception at Molly’s? I’ve seen somewhere on tumblr that someone suggested Brett’s parents farm and it would be so unique and no one will say anything about Cass first wedding because there wouldn’t be anything similar about it.
And yeah, those kind of relationships happen in real life but it is still strange. People talk about Brett being at dawsey’s wedding because it makes you realise that they weren’t just strangers who work together, they were really close.
I don’t want to say who was better friend. They both made so many mistakes. The last call when Brett left Gabby with a patient? They could be their worst enemies - the patient comes first! And yes, Brett for supporting Dawson when it came to her marriage, same as Dawson supported Brett when she thought she was pregnant with Antonio or when whole drama with Hope happened (Gabby backed Brett, not Stella and we know who was right).
But my biggest problem is saying that Brett and Casey are meant to be. Call it what you want, but this is a lie. Come on, before season 7 they barely talked to each other, Casey even said he didn’t want to know anything about Brett’s love life. Writers making Brett saying she loved him from the beginning? When he was in relationship with another woman? Didn’t she say she was happy for them? Make their story great, but don’t change the history of what happened on a show before 🤷🏼‍♀️ and Kara saying that Casey wasn’t the only one who didn’t ask her to compromise? He literally asked her to move to Portland with him after they dated for like six weeks 🤦🏼‍♀️ not to mention I was impressed that she decided to stay, that she didn’t want to change her life for a man and yet it’ll be her legacy after all, she moved for a man. Again 🤦🏼‍♀️
That being said I agree that the main problem might be Casey - Dawson and Brett both changed when they started dating him so maybe it’s all his fault 🤷🏼‍♀️
I agree with a couple of things of this, but disagree with the majority.
I really get annoyed with the molly's reception argument because it's Molly's. It's a staple of Chicago fire. And before it had a d*wsey reception there, it had a Plouch wedding, just re emphasizing it's a place that events for the 51 family happen.
And it's stated that they only have the reception there because they didn't have the proper aquarium venue, where if they did, that's where the reception would be held. So even then the argument barely holds any real weight.
I also disagree that they weren't meant to be together. Yes, say if you take them in season five, at that point in both of their lives, they were not. But that doesn't negate that they're meant to be together, it was just important for them to have that journey to get to that point. But one thing that remains true is that Sylvie has always respected Matt. I mean, you can't work at 51 without doing so.
And he literally never asked her to compromise. He was fine with her not moving to Portland. He never wanted or expected her to compromise who she is and what she wants. And she's NOT moving for a man, she's moving because it's right for her family.
Also misogynistic of you to say that despite you're disappointed she didn't stick with her original choice to say all while reducing her legacy to her relationship. Sylvie Brett's legacy will be her kindness, her strength, her love for 51, her adoption of Julia... these are all things that will be her legacy.
Thank you for asking.

Ok, we know that Violet is Brett’s MOH but I’m pretty Severide will be Casey’s. So Stella will be free - she could for example take care of baby Julia during the wedding 😉 imagine Sev standing behind the Casey, watching his best friend getting married and thinking about his future with his wife and he looks at her and sees her with a baby in her arms? Like yessss, please! The previous wedding he was a best men he got some pretty good ideas about his future with Stella, hope this time could be even better!
its been a game or something for the writers I swear.
every time Kelly has a cute moment with kids, Stella's never there to see it and vice versa
I NEED BOTH OF THEM TO SEE THE OTHER WITH KIDS DANG IT!

Prompt: “How did I manage to get you?”
Season 12
The last thing Matt expects when he officially moves back to Chicago is Sylvie needing emergency surgery at one in the morning.
Everything had been normal when her appendix burst. They had both been up too late, working on the new house when Sylvie had doubled over in pain right on the stairs.
He instantly knew it was more than just a terrible cramp the second he saw he. She was pale and in agonizing pain which scared the hell out of him. He had to rush her to the hospital in his truck after calling the neighbor over to watch Julia.
Luckily, it was just her appendix and not something more serious. Marcel assured him she needed a simple appendectomy, but they wanted to do it right away.
He barely had time to process any of it before they took her to surgery. The operation was a success, but Marcel warned him she’d be out of it for a while after all the drugs.
He’s been at her side, holding her hand and waiting for her to wake up for hours.
She finally stirs just as Kidd arrives with a coffee delivery for him and purple hydrangeas for his fiancé.
Sylvie blinks slowly, clearly unfocused and dazed. He doesn’t blame her. She was on anesthesia and a concoction of pain meds.
“Welcome back,” he greets, brushing some hair away from her eyes.
She still looks a little confused as she catalogues his face.
Kidd stands on the other side of her bed and squeezes her shoulder. “How you feeling, girl?”
Sylvie looks at her and pulls her friend closer. “Um, why is there a really hot guy sitting at my bedside?”
Stella looks at him and he can tell they are wondering the same thing. She never lost any oxygen to her brain so she can’t have memory loss.
Sylvie gives him a quick side glance and then tries to whisper but he hears every word.
She’s definitely super high on pain pills right now.
“He’s very seriously cute. Is he my doctor?”
He’s not in scrubs which is obvious to anyone who isn’t still half asleep on anesthesia.
Matt grins at her. “No, I’m not your doctor.”
She glances at him. “Oh, sorry. My nurse. Men can be nurses.”
“Brett, how drugged are you?” Kidd laughs. She reaches for her chart to study just how much pain medication she is on. “Yep, they have her on the good stuff.”
He had a feeling. He’s heard of these kinds of reactions to anesthesia. He just never expected Sylvie wouldn’t realize who he is right now.
Matt grabs her left hand and brings attention to the diamond on her finger. “No, I’m not a nurse either. I’m your fiancé, baby.”
Her blue eyes widen comically. She’s looking at him like he’s grown two heads. “You?”
Stella laughs again.
Sylvie shakes her head in awe and then turns back to Stella. She talks as if he’s not there again.
“I’m really marrying him? You’re telling me the cutest guy I’ve ever met is actually my fiancé?”
God, she’s adorable. He tries to stifle his laugh with his hand.
“Yes, Brett. This guy is your man. You’re really riding high on those pain killers huh?”
He chuckles, pressing his lips to her fingers. “Yeah, I’m your guy.”
“I…” she trails off and stares at the ceiling. Her drug addled brain stalls for a minute before she glances at him. She gasps like she’s uncovered some secret. “You are seriously very cute, and I really scored you.”
She’s very drugged and also incredibly biased. He goes along with it though because she’ll have no memory of this interaction after she’s fully alert.
“I’m definitely the one who scored, babe.”
She furrows. “How did I manage to get you? You’re so hot.”
Kidd snorts and rolls her eyes. Sylvie has said that multiple times now. He’s flattered but she’s actually the one out of his league.
“You are both the easiest person to love and the most beautiful woman in the world. I think that had something to do with it.”
Stella pats Sylvie’s hand. “Trust me girl, Casey over here is madly in love with you and you feel the same.”
Matt nods. “She’s right.”
Sylvie yawns, sluggishly rubbing her eyes. He can tell she’s about to pass back out for a little while and then wake up for real next time.
The drugs are still filtering in her system.
“I can see why,” she whispers, snuggling further into the hospital bed pillow.
Within seconds, she’s fast asleep.
“She’s definitely not going to remember that,” Kidd chuckles.
He nods and kisses Sylvie’s hand. “Yeah, definitely not.”
Kidd paces to the foot of her bed. “Are you going to tell her about all this?”
“I don’t know,” he replies. “Probably at some point.”
The other woman shakes her head. “She’s absolutely so obsessed with you in the best way, huh?”
She is and he has no idea what he did to deserve it.
A little while later when Sylvie is fully up and eating Jello, she asks if she said anything ridiculous while on anesthesia. He replies with a small shake of his head and kisses her.
Maybe he’ll tell her everything later.

“Hey there,” he whispers to Julia, taking her small hand in his, shaking it lightly - an introduction to each other.
She blinks at him before gurgling in reply, like she was introducing herself too.  He grins broadly before looking up to find Sylvie.  He meets her eyes and he thinks he can love and adoration in them and would you look at that?  Maybe his whole future was in there too.  He’s glad they’re finally in a place in their lives that they could be together, that they could raise this family together.  He’s glad he finally asked her the one question he had been wanting to for a year and a half - maybe even more.
“I think she really likes you,” Sylvie states softly, watching as Julia continues to gaze at Matt.
“Yeah, well, I really like her too.”
No, what he meant was that he loved her already.
