..uh oh?
guys. Guys I just realized something
Remember how Grizzly told Charlie (after he rolled a history check) that creatures as powerful as the Electrodon usually stay in much much deeper water, and don't really hunt ships nor humanoids
And I was just kinda re-watching that episode while thinking about the newer episodes and the artificial Leviathan thing and then something clicked
Why would a creature, with sufficient food resources and available prey, leave the safety of the abyss?? It had everything it needed, it's environment was perfect, so why would it try and fuck around with the surface? Why would it try and eat the Riptide Pirates ship if it had food and safety and everything else it needed???
A disturbance.
We know that, from real life, animals will leave their natural environment if people cut down the forests, mine out the caves, melt the ice caps, for example
Remember how in EP 115 they figured out that the artificial Leviathan(s) we're so large, they would have to have been made underwater?
.
DO YOU SEE WHERE I'M GOING WITH THIS?????
The navy, or maybe the undersea, or maybe just the elders, were constructing the artificial Leviathan(s) underwater, driving the Electrodon and other large sea creatures away from the area because of the disturbance they were creating
They were depleting the resources, killing off or chasing off the wildlife, just to make a weapon

Shoutout to this tumblr post (brought to me via Pinterest) that inspired the following:
I need a Navy officer to have looked the dead Leviathan in its face and said “I’m sorry.” I need a Navy officer who repeatedly expresses their doubts / concerns on the project, but their skillset is too valuable for anyone to get rid of them/the problem. I need a Navy officer (metaphorically? Then later *literally?*) tied to their work on the Dead Leviathan project, and accepting their fate as doomed by what will surely be a vengeful god. I need a Navy officer that goes in and worships the leviathan’s remnants, recognizing it for the divinity it is. I need a Navy officer watching this divine being be commanded, and wondering how long it will stay subdued. I need a Navy officer begging and pleading to be released from this sin, and when the Dead Leviathan wakes is the only one to remain untouched. I need a Navy officer wishing they had been touched by a god, for surely experiencing its wrath would be better than the silence that is left behind. I need the struggle of man when faced with divine creation that mortal hands have made flawed, knowing they contributed to marring a holy thing.

So is nobody gonna talk about the dying triton telling the CHAMPION OF THE UNDERSEA "you abandoned us" with his hands bound together in prayer impaled on a HOOK right before Gillion regresses to his soldier mindset???
422 notes · View notes
so, to recap:
-the navy has, in fact, killed leviathans. that wasnt just something jayson said to fuck with gillion.
-artificial leviathans are made of Goop and metal, speak primordial, and take orders from the navy
-admiral ferin knew the hole in the sea was going to happen, because the "solar mother" warned her
-she is also aware the black sea will spread one day, and claims to be ready for it
-there are "black ops" that serve the navy, which are essentially clones of people, that have replaced multiple people and are living as them
-the navy is in possession of a machine that can alter a persons mind state and "push them to be a more obedient soldier
-kuba kenta is imprisoned here
-kuba kenta looks slightly different, "the reincarnation isnt perfect"
-there are four symbols in the bastion: an anchor, a pair of wings, two golden eyes, and a sun
-and, most strangely: someone was here recently

Ok so. Chip star wars au backstory. Basically, what I'm thinking is that the story is pretty much the same, with some obvious adjustments.
Chip grows up on board the Midnight Rose (a space ship this time, not an ocean one lol). It's the early years of the Empire, and the Black Rose pirates are both pirates and kind of an early rebel cell? sorta? They're still pretty powerful, like in the riptide canon, as the Empire is still kind of getting its shit together. And when I say they're *sort of* rebels what i mean is that, while they do actively dislike the Empire, they're not fighting them directly so much as they're being a general nuisance for them and stealing their shit and disrupting their plans.
As for the hole in the sea...well, I have two ideas for that would be.
Number one is that it's, like, a weird Force thing, which there are A Lot of in Star Wars. It's sort of like that weird fucking cube-planet-thing they get stranded on in The Clone Wars for that one arc with the Father the Daughter the Son--it's that sort of batshit fucking star wars thing, and it basically, like...sucks them in and the events of the Hole in the Sea oneshot play out pretty much the same way. This one I like because it has the wackass magical element to it and could thus account for the wackass Chip Lore that we're currently being insane about in the hiatus.
(The aforementioned Wackass Chip Lore does throw a bit of a wrench into the AU, since we don't know anything for certain about it, so when Riptide starts back again and we find out more this part of the au could be pretty much derailed, but adjustments can always be made and the sw lore is crazy enough that I'll probably be able to figure something out).
Second option is that the "Hole in the Sea" is a weapon of sorts--something the Empire is maybe working on in secret, something that they maybe found that was like, the ruins of an ancient space-civilization with super weird, cool technology yknow? And the black rose pirates end up there somehow (one idea is that it's like a gravity well, like they had in Rebels I think??? It might have been tcw i can't remember. Something that can pluck ships out of hyperspace like it's nothing). It could also be a combination of these two options--maybe it's some weird space magic thing the Empire was studying but then some Weird Magical Bullshit happened and drove them all out, but the Magic was like, awake, or something, idk I'm tired and that's all I have for now. This ask was not originally this long LMAO
Oh my fucking god I understand I get it. What if the hole in the sea was the Empire experimenting with the dark side of the force to build the superweapon that can just. Yoink a fuckin ship out of hyperspace and send them to some form of a rebel prison, but it ended up malfunctioning because the original designs were ones they stole from that ancient space-civilization you mentioned were made with the light side of the force/jedi use in mind. it ends up creating a sort of whackass void/black hole of the force in this pit deeeep deep into outer space and just like the Allport blockade, the Empire ends up telling any ships that try to leave the docks not to go there. the only people that can go anywhere near it are the ones that live on the nearby planets (like the underground towns and crew the albatrio found while in the black sea when chip got his heart ripped out), the Empire visiting bases (like the navy base from 114), or any rebel trader that's either stupid enough or skilled enough to disobey the Empire and make it all the way there and back alive. Since Captain Rose was one of the pirate lords, maybe it was an intentional and direct attack that just ended up backfiring and left them with no other option than to quarantine that set of planets and hope nothing else happened and no-one survived (they literally all did LMAOO)

//jrwi ep 114 spoilers
finished the episode and holy shit there is so much to think about
Faye Ferins message like what does she mean about her son being “stable” what’s up with her wanting to take over the world? she directly mentioned Aster what’s going on with that?? is she heavily religious? does she know of the prophecy?
Dopplegilly was fucking horrifying, the way he was almost gillion to the point i didn’t notice and Chip didn’t notice is so scary, the fact he can’t perform prophetic screwup, and now he’s just a brain dead husk which is so funny to me.
chip’s unwavering trust in gill too, he went to the bones, let gill barricade the door, and even when he knew no it wasn’t gill he still couldn’t lethally damage him. there’s so much care there, and we can really see how his character has changed since the beginning of the campaign because early campaign chip would have let gillion sacrifice himself, now he begs for jay to save gill over him.
and i think a lot of that comes from the love for his crew, but i also think he knows that he’s slowly falling apart, he dosent have as much time as he lets on. i bet at this point he probably thinks he doesn’t have much more to live for, that he’s a goner may as well save his crew, his family if he goes out sooner rather then later.
also i have a feeling kuba kenta is going to be an issue again soon, that worries me
i also really want to know what all jay found in that room, is it info on Ava or is it about the artificial leviathan?? what are we going to find out when they are slightly safer?
UGH ANS GILLION JUMPING INTO A FIGHT WITH 1 HP AND NO ARMOR FOR CHIP WHEN AGAIN EARLY CAMPAIGN GILL MAY HAVE DONE THAT BUT LIKE OUT OF OBLIGATION TO BE A HERO THIS WAS BECAUSE HE CARES BECAUSE THAT IS HIS BEST FRIEND AND HE WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR HIS CREW.
anyways this episode was horrifying and so funny and i loved it so much

Jrwi “theory” because you asked and I have too many!
Remember black and gold egg from the “black rose pirates” one shot (which has the exact same colours as Hendrix and is clearly connected to him somehow). So when Chip made a deal with Niklaus, Niklaus told him that they will find an artificer and that he’s not supposed to touch it. (I don’t remember the wording exactly). I think this artificer is the egg. It’s the only precious thing that is directly connected to both Niklaus and Chip’s past.
I think that the egg is also connected to the black rose pirates. We know Niklaus knows then, we know that their captain was overcome by the black ooze which appears every time a person’s desire is fulfilled and twisted by Niklaus’ magic.
I think that the captain therefore asked Niklaus for treasures beyond his wildest imaginations, for something so magnificent that it would make everyone remember the Black Rose pirates for years to come (maybe he did it to impress whoever he was in live with?). The sea then opened, swallowed them whole and gave the captain exactly what he asked for, riches beyond his imagination and an unforgettable story to go with it.
I also think that the egg has something to do with the artificial leviathan or other leviathans in the seas, tho that is just a speculation.
Why can’t chip touch the egg, is my only thing I really really don’t understand. I get that it is what displaces Arlan and the others. (I also think that Arlan probably made a deal with Niklaus to save the others which is why he’s in the Black Sea and they are not) but why can’t Chip specifically touch it?
Anyways, uhhhm yeah. :) Thoughhts? Comments? XD
DAWG HEAR ME OUT. HEAR ME OUT OK.
This might sound a lil crazy at first but what if the egg is the same type of egg Gill came out of? What is Niklaus stole the egg of the second chosen one from the undersea and ended up corrupting it because maybe theres something with the prochecy that Niklaus doesnt like.
The goddess said "Kind of" when Gill asked if there was another chosen one. Maybe the other chosen one exists but is still in the egg. Maybe if Chip finds the egg hed be able to reverse its affects by bringing it to Gill, then it hatching and Gill being able to fulfill the prophecy with this new person?
And maybe Captian Rose had this egg but then traded the egg for fame and a legacy.

built to fall apart
(ao3)
words: 491
characters: jay ferin, niklaus hendrix, chip (background)
content & warnings: JRWI RIPTIDE EP 81 SPOILERS! thats it really tho lmao
summary: Jay makes a deal.
—————
It’s cold, when the deal seals itself.
The pearl is between them, Niklaus smiling down at her as she snatches it out of his hands. In the split second that they’re both holding it, a crescent-shaped chill presses itself into Jay’s shoulder, not quite cold enough to be painful but just frigid enough to send a shiver through her entire body.
She thinks she might be trembling, but she can’t be bothered to notice when the key to Gillion’s prison is in her hands, when she’s just agreed to something she doesn’t even know, when Niklaus Hendrix has them all firmly in his grasp.
They defeated one puppeteer just to become tangled entirely in the strings of another.
All she has to do is get struck by lightning. Sure! There’s a godlike doctor roaming their world and an artificial leviathan being built somewhere and the Navy is hunting for them and there’s a moon on her back. Getting electrocuted to free Gillion is the least of her concerns.
“It’s tonight,” Niklaus says, stepping onto the water. The frozen sunlight shines on him like he’s some sort of hero, the self-satisfaction on his face clear as day. Jay glowers, hoping that with all his power, he can feel every ounce of hatred and fury seething within her. The deal was cold, but now she feels like her anger could boil the silent sea below. “You don’t want to miss it. This is your chance.”
And then he turns as if to walk into the ocean, and time resumes in an instant. A wave crashes down over his head, and when it levels out again, he’s gone.
Jay stares blankly at the water for a moment, her hands going numb around her death grip on the pearl. She looks over towards the dock, once again bustling with people. Chip is walking away, his gait unsteady and slow. There’s an empty, hopeless look on his face that she can see even from so far away.
Her knees give out, and she sinks to the ground, blank expression crumbling as a sob shoves its way out of her mouth. Curling up against the side of the ship, she lets herself cry, forehead against the pearl as she mumbles, “You’re coming back, Gill.”
Thunder rumbles as a storm—the storm—approaches, the air thick with anticipation even as the sun shines down brightly. Chip has disappeared into the distance, now, broken and battered and falling apart in ways Jay can’t even see. Her tears drip off the pearl, landing on the deck in near-silence, interrupted only by a loud CLANK as something drops out of nothingness and clatters onto the ship.
She doesn’t even need to look to know that it’s Gillion’s sword, trying desperately to return to its owner.
Jay stares out towards the giant waterfalls, dark clouds swirling dangerously above them, and hopes destiny’s blade gives them just a little more time before striking them down.

mmmm, artificial Leviathan design?
Hey guys, remember this post I made that one time???? Talking about how whenever I think of the Artificial Leviathan from jrwi I imagine the Leviathan from rainworld? With the hydraulic press mouth??
Taking some inspiration from that Leviathan, I imagine it's jaw/head would be kind of boxy, something like Mudwing head types from wings of fire, with a mouth that can open and close at really high speeds with a terrifying amount of force, like a hydraulic press
Taking even more inspiration from Godzilla and alligators and, you guessed it, Wings of Fire, it would probably have these like- fins that slim down into boxy claws, because why would the Navy just want to attack places in or near water?? It sounds like they've already wiped out or enslaved most of the trench, considering the amount of Triton bodies in that one stronghold in the Black Sea, not counting the ones we didn't see
And also, it was literally compared to the size of Godzilla in the campaign, it's gotta be maaasssive
I also imagine it would be using the Black Sea to power these leviathans, so maybe if even just for looks there'd be this giant glowing core in the center
Almost like nuclear radioactive shit or whatever Shin Godzilla was cooking up-
I might be recalling things wrong, but I'm pretty sure they mentioned five leviathans, and multiple artificial leviathans, so assuming they'd be trying to recreate each one in terms of looks, that would even make it so that the undersea wouldn't want to fight back
The leviathans are like their gods, their protectors, they worship them, even if they wanted to, they couldn't kill them
Even if said leviathans were disrupting the food chain and causing chaos, they couldn't kill them
They couldn't
