I just wanted to say before the final episodes come out - I love arcane. I’m so endlessly inspired by it and full of love for its creatives. I love all the characters and their complexities and flaws. I love all the themes it tackles and how they’re woven in so masterfully. I’m so glad to have experienced this.

I will take the life of the maker of the hex key screw, those fuckers round out so easily if you don't have the perfect fit and become entirely impossible to remove.

my real favorite? flathead twist pins. it's like a flathead screw but you only have to give it a half turn. not perfect for every application but BOY they are my favorite when they are practical.

overall though, flathead my beloved. as long as I have a Sort Of correct size, it will screw and unscrew.

Something that I think should be an important part of solarpunk aesthetics is screws.

Look at your smartphone. No screws. You've got to have specialized tools to get inside your phone to repair something. There are certain pieces of tech that are glued in place and glue can't be undone without permanently breaking the bond.

But screws!

You can take apart a broken old radio, repair what's broken, and, if you were careful in taking it apart, you can put it back together and have a fully functioning radio and all you need is a common screwdriver!

It's hard to build screws and other mechanical fasteners because it requires more planning than clamps and glues, but isn't that what solarpunk is all about‽ It's about care and sustainability and and a radio or a computer built carefully with repair in mind is a sustainable computer that stays out of landfills and in use.

He’s always on the lookout for second-hand books and discs etc to mend a little and then donate to his local library. He swipes new ones off shelves sometimes but only from huge supermarket chain stores and similarly donates them when he’s done

He does gigs at his local pub and is pals with the bartenders and other musicians there. Sometimes he shows up as Spider-Punk, sometimes as Hobie Brown, and no one has suspected they aren’t the same person. They do tell him they should meet the other because they’d love him, actually, they share such similar vibes

The stickers on his guitar and badges on his vest are collected from different places all around his universe, and other universes. I like to think gwen and pav look out for them to give to him whenever they go out on missions

• I think he makes guitar picks out of anything. He hasn't bought a single one in his lifetime, and yet he has a collection of very diverse ones. All of them have little stories behind them, of how he made them or the materials they are made of.

• He probably owns a record player that wasn't originally his but from someone he cared about. The vynils he listens to on it also belonged to that person, and they are not exactly his usual music taste, but they remind him of some other times, probably happy ones.

• He has used his spiderwebs as replacement for a broken electric guitar string more than once. The sound it made was questionable, but he thought it to sound quite cool actually.

i don’t think rhyme’s relationship to her gender identity is particularly important to the larger picture of twewy, but i do think beat’s perception of her as a girl, as his younger sister, is very very important. cause masculinity as equal to strength is important to beat, and it explains a lot of his relationship to rhyme. rhyme protecting beat, her kindness when they were alive, succeeding at pushing him out of the way in the same way beat failed, it’s an indignity. rhyme, a young girl, his family, then his partner in the Game, like every category of ‘what a man should protect’, is stronger than beat. beat fails to protect her time and time again. and he resents that. that he’s so weak. that she had to protect him.

liiiike, what kariya says to beat after ganking rhyme, “[rhyme] isn’t gone because of us. she’s gone because of you. you failed to protect your partner. […] she protected you. gave her life for you. […] you want payback? then man up” <- thats what its all about. and ‘she’s gone because of you’ stinging twice cause he failed and that’s why she was in the Game at all. later, as a reaper, beat says to neku “you man up any yet? cause i don’t believe in hittin’ women and children” it’s cyclicalll and beat clinging to the ideal of masculinity in the face of his own powerlessness
