Throwback to stupider times, 5/
Just One of the Guys, 1985, Joyce Hyser She's the Man, 2006, Amanda Bynes
These are basically the same movie, and I think it's interesting how little changed in the ~20 years between the two. In particular the reactions of the male love interest, first to realizing that he has feelings for someone who is apparently male (horror, panic), and then to the revelation that actually she's female (relief, fist pump, "I knew it!"). It just would have been nice (in 2006, I don't expect that much from 1985) to see him sit with his initial feelings a bit more, and maybe come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter so much if the person he likes is male or female, because he really likes them.

Just One of the Guys directed by Lisa Gottlieb
Ok, the film is a product of its time and some of the jokes and plot points probably wouldn't work today, but all in all, “Just One of the Guys” is a fun, charming, and lighthearted 80s high school comedy. Joyce Hyser is a lovable cutie and the shenanigans she gets into are pretty funny most of the time. I especially enjoyed the entertaining and surprisingly wholesome brother/sister relationship.really liked how this started out, there were a lot of feminist elements and of course, queer coding. But then it devolved into a typical '80s teen comedy with lots of problematic dialogue and stereotypical characters.  feel like Lisa Gottleib made this entire film to roast men, which I respect. i really enjoyed in butlers piece when she claims gender is a fact. Gender is always fluid and should be expressed in various ways such as gender expression as we see in Just one of the guys. She dresses up as a guy and it completely changes her appearance. Gender is various acts of gender that create gender. And for a film to be made in the 80s with this type of message really says al ot because looking back. there was john hughes films where they focused more on teenage adolecense  and finding yourself. But not for Lisa Gottlieb we see she pushed the idea of gender even further. She pushed it in terms of where it makes you see differently and how it presents differently in other people. For example, i am nonbinary and i fall into the trans umbrella. although i do dress more feminine in terms of the colors i choose but it does not mean i consider myself a feminine person. gender is always something i can be fluid with and i feel like that is the reason i really enjoyed watching this film because it shed some light to the difficulties of what trans people may have experienced.
