Will is known for his love, what he gives to others. The thing is Will's love is not so as easily given as people think. We see him give his love to his friends. But these are people who like him who we know he has a history with as season 1 implicates. Where we see Will not easily giving out his love is in season 2 with Hopper and Bob.
Hopper and Will have criminally few scenes together especially for the guy that can't even fight Owens' comment of "pop" but Will does not remember him. Not even the idea of him. He seems so proud but Will not having a memory of him shows that the love isn't fully there. The only three people he remembers are the three we know he loves without a doubt, and that is Mike, Joyce, and Jonathan. Even if it is just the idea of them like "You're mom" he still remembers them.
But what about Bob you say? Bob is someone who is trying to earn Will's love. He works very hard, and we see Will eventually give it when he takes in the idea to say "Go away" to the Mindflayer. We also see it solidified with the drawing he does of him. Will uses art to convey his feelings most notable fear (the mindflayer), love (DnD), and hate (zombie boy). Arguably there is only one place for Bob to fall.
Now I know you are like what about Lonnie. Every child has a complex relationship with parents who are abusive. Even Jonathan who we know hates Lonnie and tries to instill that idea into Will, has a complex relationship with his dad. Go forth with that idea Jonathan RPers. Will however, so full of love, wants to please Lonnie even past the point of when Lonnie is more or less willfully giving up his rights because he is not trying to visit Will. Will still wants to love him. He still wants to acknowledge the roll Lonnie has in his life, and as much as I love Hopper he has not stepped into the role of dad for Will, not yet at least. Lonnie is still that to Will. And I know people are like he doesn't like baseball, but he has a bat in the one place he finds comfort, I think people often forget Jonathan does try to instill his beliefs of Lonnie onto Will. Will is if anything a people pleaser of course he is going to say what he did. What makes a real point though is what does Will have in the place he calls his, that he build with Jonathan. A baseball bat. Lonnie for as bad as he is still left an impact on Will, and that was Will having more interests than Art, he didn't do it in a healthy way but it still happened.
Last we have El. Will did not meet El in any form until the end of season 2. He spent a year listening to the boys talk about her, literally when he woke up some of the first things he was told was about El. Now granted he did more or less meet El in the upside down, but that is hardly a meeting if that makes sense. He didn't know who it was probably until later and he was told about what happened. Will from what we can glean did not get to really know El at all until she moved in with the Byers after Hopper was presumed dead. Will was likely jealous of her, not only because Mike talked about her alot and she had Mike's affection something he had wanted for a while, but because she replaced him in their friend group. The obvious example I use is that Will changed his DnD class. Before El he was a wizard, she came in and he changed to Cleric because she was the "mage" which in Advanced DnD (the version the boys would have played) is more or less a magic user aka a Wizard. Changing class or multiclassing in Advanced DnD is difficult and essentially resets the player back to level one until the reach the same level they were with their old class for them to access any of their old class powers and moves. So with the analogy that the Duffer's use of DnD explaining in base format the plot of the show, this explains Will and El before they get to know each other.
She had to earn his love. But once she had it he gave it to her freely. He wasn't afraid to give it to her. He did his best to make sure she knew he loved her. He did his best to make her happy at the expense of himself which is how Will opperrates. Others are okay at the expense of himself we see it time and time again with "Are you okay?" aimed at Jonathan in the end of season 1 while Will is the one in the hospital bed, "Close Gate" in season 2 while Will would die if that happened, "She needs you" in season 4, and in season 3 we see the consequence of Will wanting something for himself with trying to get the boys to play DnD.
Will's love given comes at a cost to no one but himself. He wont ever mention the cost because he views it as minute and inconsequential but it is still there, and its only a matter of time before someone realizes. Will's love is not as infinite as it seems. And Will doesn't just give it away. Sure he will empathize with people, like giving the crying girl the tonka truck, but that is not equated to Will loving you.

WHERE IS MY SEASON FOUR!? [Contains Spoilers]
Overall Conclusion:
I don’t feel satisfied, like at all.
So much happened and I loved every single bit of it, but it felt too much like a build-up. It actually felt a lot like a season 1 than it did a season 3 (if that makes sense).
I don’t care about Nancy and Jonathan. Their story line bored me from S1. Don’t get me wrong I’m happy they lived and have such a strong relationship between them; but their story line is of no interest for me. They are definite side characters to me that would rank like in the way way lows on my ‘characters of importance list’.
I’m actually really really proud of Karen Wheeler. She said no to temptation and that is admirable. I feel like I owe her an apology because I literally expected the absolute worst of her. As in, I was mentally and inwardly hating on her before I even watched ep1. I feel bad, especially after she had the heart to heart with Nancy.
SO…..
Sorry Mrs Wheeler.
Unexpectedly…. I think I might have a new ship or bromance. Murray and Alexei were just so cute to me. The child like marvel Alexei had was endearing, plus Murray’s attentive enlightening was cool to see. They may have been minor but when they got screen time they really brought the sweet fluff vibes.
I noticed that everyone was split into small groups (probably because they are too big to properly develop altogether as one big group). What stood out to me a lot was the dynamic’s always tended to take on a rather family vibe. Two characters would play the parents roles and the others would act the role of children. For example, Jopper were the parents, Alexei and Murray the children. Steve and Robin were the parents, Erica and Dustin the children etc. Between that, they would also switch it up with a bit of Teenage dramatude (Drama plus attitude). Jopper bickering and Murray calling them out. Jancy having real adult talk about life. Steve and Robin talking about that hard knock life. The teens being actual teens.
Real talk though, I’m proud of the kids.
I felt Lucas had a lot more to offer this season. Although, at times he really did seem a bit clueless, I don’t know. He definitely came off as a bit of a dick sometimes (both him and Mike) towards Will. Glad he chilled out later, said his apologies and stuff. I love the Mileven scenes, but Lucas and Max deserve a tonne of credit for this season.
But Max deserved the most.
I loved Max the second she was introduced, I thought she was awesome. This season I seriously name her the ultimate Wifey/best friend a guy and girl could have. She sticks to her guns, you know. Dating a boy doesn’t change her. She knows who she is and what she wants and fights to get it. She was a GREAT influence and pal to Eleven, exactly what El needed, in my opinion. My heart broke for her when she faced Billy. For whatever reason, I got the impression that she and Billy had bonded or something since Season 2. Either way, it hurt to see Sadie/Max slapped out of the way like that. Then when she cries over Billy- It broke me.
I’m glad Will kind of got a break this season. A little disappointed he didn’t really get to do much, other than be an informant. I spent a lot of the time expecting him to reveal he was actually still infected by the Mind flayer the whole time. Also, no one is going to convince me that Will is not gay or bi. The way he stares after Mike and El every time they run off together says so much. I just- after everything he’s been through, both physical and emotional intimacy is something I think he’d crave a lot of. It’s the gender I think he wouldn’t care about. Regardless, Will needs love and gods someone better give him some next season. Also, did no one else keep thinking he was like Spiderman with his mind flaying senses?
Mike was the real Nerd or Geek boy representative this season. I enjoyed seeing how gangling and similar to S1 he was. It was nice not seeing emo Mike. However, the constant doubt and questioning slowly became a bit much. Frankly, I was relieved when he and Max had that argument. I don’t like Mike when he’s in doubt or unsure on stuff. He was okay, but not really an interest for me this season. As I said, I thought he and Lucas were assholes for their treatment of Will. The car ride he has with Hopper will forever be my favorite scene of Mike’s this season.
I really felt for El this season. She’s been put through so much and-…… It’s still too raw and fresh. I can’t talk about it without getting upset. But to summarize: I’M SO FUCKING PROUD OF HER!!
Dustin. Any chance I get to hear Gaten sing is a blessing to my ears and food for my soul. I love his voice and he is so talented. He’s been my fave since the first episode okay. When no one believed him about Suzie, honest to god I wished I could be there to tell him I believed him or some shit. Beyond that, I laughed when he basically said he won’t tell the others about the Russian message because they didn’t believe him about Suzie. That was so petty but I loved it. The bonding between him and Erica was also great. Regardless… out of all the kids Dustin made me the most proud and is still my favorite.
I live for Erica’s sass, but at some points she did test me a bit.
Or maybe I just wanted her to ease up on the feisty attitude towards my baby Dustin.
Steve and Robin had me fucking scared! When they got captured I was shitting my pants imagining all the worst ways they were going to get tortured. I knew since the promo pics that I would love Robin- because I loved the expression on Maya’s face that promised so much attitude and sarcasm. She wasn’t too much of a nag, and while I had mentally labelled her a lesbian queen in my head. When she confesses to Steve I lost my shit. I fucking lost my shit and had to take a break and everything. Then Steve was perfect with his response. I don’t care Steve Harrington will be revealed as BISEXUAL before this fucking show is over!! He just has to!! He is both a MOM and a DAD!! Let’s just say I need more Steve and Robin scenes in the future. Jancy can get like cut or less scenes ok! I need Steve and Robin!!
Joyce….. I can’t talk about her without-….. I just can’t.
Hopper…. Fuck…… I can’t.
Billy.
Fuck.
Overall.
Stranger things season 3 was so good but just not enough. It was too short- too brief and left me with so much to process!!
SO FUCKING GIVE ME SEASON FOUR YOU SON OF A BITCHES!!!!!!!!

Hold Your Breath. Make A Wish. Count To Three.
You know how you sometimes have this dream - it could be a nighttime thing, or a daydream, or some lofty ethereal goal - but it’s something you just can’t quite imagine. It’s there and you can almost picture it, but only ever just almost.
I’ve had so many of these dreams that I lost count long ago. But I think it’s something that’s just in the DNA of artists and creative types.
Right?
Well, beginning sometime around the fall of 2016 I had this dream (the goal kind) of what it would be like, feel like, look like, sound like, etc to see The King’s Legacy - which had finally found the correct structure - come to life in a full production.
It simultaneously felt easily attainable and yet a thousand years off. I truly could almost see it happening. But it wasn’t happening - not yet anyway. So all I could do was just keep imagining and letting various scenarios pass through my head.
But I will tell you that, when it came down to the reality, it was nothing like I had imagined.
It was so much better.
Come With Me And You’ll Be In A World Of Pure Imagination
Writers are often asked:
“Do you see the show in your head as you write? Are you staging it? Directing it?”
And I am absolutely certain that some writers can and do.
But not me.
That’s not to say that I’m not imagining how it could possibly go and making sure that it seems workable, both as someone who has directed and continues to perform as an actor. But I either do not have the ability or the synapse wiring to fully direct the show in my brain as I write/create the entire world of a possible production. For me, it’s more a conglomeration of possibilities than it is a concrete idea.
And that’s where Chris J. Handley comes into the story.
I’ve known Chris as an actor since 2014 and one of the first things that struck me about him is that he is - plainly and simply - extremely good at what he does: as an actor, singer, emcee, and overall professional. He is an artistic force to be reckoned with.
Last year I had the pleasure of finally encountering Chris as a director as well (in The Spider’s Web at BVT). I had a small role, but I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in on the rehearsals - even when I was not needed - just to watch Chris work and direct. His intelligence and grasp of overall picture, while never letting the details slip away, is really a special experience.
So when I was told Chris would be the director for The King’s Legacy this summer, I was thrilled.
There is much I could say about the process of working with Chris on the script prior to the actual production, but the biggest takeaway for me from our early conversations was that he had a complete and utter grasp on what the piece was, wanted to be, its flow, its importance, and all of the layers that were on the page. It was like being fully seen for the first time - our conversations were deep and productive and wonderful.
And - if you would indulge me another moment - when we got to the summer and I finally got see the production elements that he had put together with the designers, I knew he truly understood the piece.
There was no doubt: this musical was going to truly come to life.
We’ll Begin With A Spin
There is a flow to the script of The King’s Legacy that is, potentially, a little difficult to find.
With the framing device of having the show performed by a troupe of Elizabethan Players, there are elements of narration and driving storyline that move the piece quickly between scenes and songs. And there’s a great deal of storytelling that must be done very quickly.
What Chris and the entire design team put together was a show that could move as quickly, freely, and easily as the words and performers have to move.
There is space. There is freedom. There is an element of play built directly into the production from the top down. And it’s awesome.
In a show where there is a great deal of information, 20 characters, and countless scene shifts, the whole experience can be somewhat dizzying at times. And when that is appropriate to the piece, they’ve allowed it to continue to exist in that way. And at times when we’d rather not give that experience to the audience, they figured out a way to create a more grounded experience, without losing the sense of movement.
Running through the show for the very first time in the rehearsal room was, as an actor, an exhausting and delightfully rewarding experience. The show is a runaway train that can never slow down or stop until it absolutely must, and it is this movement that Chris has infused throughout the entire show so masterfully.
The core, the heart, of this show has been lain bare for the audience, and it’s a beautiful experience.
Traveling In The World Of My Creation
Now, as the writer, walking into the theater is an awe-inspiring experience. Every time.
They built a world. There is literally a different world built in our space. And it’s the world of the show that I wrote…
I mean, whoa. That’s the coolest thing - like - period. Holy wow.
It’s beautiful. It’s magical. It’s period. Yet it’s not. It’s theatrical. It’s musical. And it’s our world - our home - for the next 9 days.
There have been a number of incredible experiences for me working in theater - as an actor, musical director, educator, and so on - but the experience of walking into this world fully realized for the first time is not something I am going to forget any time soon.
There it is. It’s right there.
Is it what I imagined? Nope. No way.
It’s so much better.
If You Want To View Paradise, Simply Look Around And View It
So, as we walk into our opening night tonight, what do I want to say?
I’m really not sure.
All I know that I can say is that I am so thankful and grateful for having been given the opportunity to bring this show to life for the first time, and with this insanely talented group of people. This team has been nothing short of incredible, and I could not be happier with the work they have done and the world they have built.
