AN EVALUATION - 26/09/14

This is an evaluation of my filming and editing methods which, hopefully, will act not only as constructive criticism from my previous work but also a record of ideas and ways of refining my work processes. This is evaluation number 1.

My shooting process is clear and objective - So far, I've been determined to film each project in one particular way, only recording that which I believe I will use. This method of shooting, although time-saving, provides me with very little choice when it comes to the editing stages; in future, I will try to film more well-rounded sequences and provide myself with a considerable amount of footage to be able to pick and choose from.

My editing process is not unusual but some of the cuts and camera changes I've made within a scene have been to drastic - these jumps prevent the audience from really understanding the scene and, ultimately, would prevent the emotion and the narrative from being developed effectively; in future, I will try to change camera angles less so as to let the audience adjust to the viewpoint.

My editing process is clear and defined, I ensure that I know what I'm doing before I make a cut and am prepared to change my edits if the situation requires it. I do not, however, realize the figurative weight of each cut which I make within a scene or try to experiment with new editing techniques; in future, I will attempt to realize the effect of my editing and will take more care and consideration when I'm about to make an edit.
