Daredevil (vol. 1) #97: He Who Saves
Read Date: February 20, 2023 Cover Date: March 1973 ● Writer: Gerry Conway ◦ Steve Gerber ● Penciler: Gene Colan ● Inker: Ernie Chua ● Colorist: {uncredited} ● Letterer: John Costanza ● Editor: Roy Thomas ●
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
Reactions As I Read: ● I am so ready for Matt to move back to NYC. I wonder how much longer he'll be in the Bay Area. and what was the point out there? ● anyway. this isn't my first time reading the Dark Messiah. I don't remember him being a young blond guy doing acrobatics, though… ● a dog attacks him, he falls and hits his head, and his acrobatics career has just ended ● nice shot of DD getting into action
● I was just about to say something about DD moving a trauma victim, but the paramedic beat me to it ● …..except that they say it's for "union rules" and that they can make an exception for Daredevil? okaaaay ● Jones gets taken off in a boo-boo bus, and cops tell DD about some gunmen at a university laboratory ● (uh, yes, there can be long waits in emergency rooms, but my guess is they would triage him and he'd be moved up the priority list being an unconscious head-wound victim…) ● DD finishes fighting the 4 gunmen and se--well, doesn't see--but realizes they're quite young. cop tells him they've been having trouble with kid gangs lately ● in the hospital, someone wheels away Jones ● ah, the "someone" is some kind of mad scientist. I'll bet there's gonna be some body-swapping happening! ● DD goes home, still wondering about the acrobat ● they still haven't quite shown Matt's eyes in any of the 96 1/2 issues of volume 1 I've read so far
● ugh, another poor emotional damsel needing to be held by a big strong man 🙄 ● Matt looks very different in profile this issue. new artist? (too lazy to look at this exact moment) (later: nope, still Gene Colan) ● Matt and Tasha should take their conversation elsewhere so Ivan can sleep ● oh, so I guess Ivan's been out for 2 days. never mind. ● …Matt is wearing clear-lensed glasses…. ● Dark Messiah uses purple lasers from his eyes to free his disciples (the kid gangs) from the local lock-up ● …
● the glowy eyes knocks DD out for half an hour. when he comes to, his cop buddy Carson helps him to his cruiser where he introduces his partner, McHenry ● Mordecai and about 200 followers are at Golden Gate Park, and they've set up a barrier so that the cops can't get in ● DD tries to get through the force field but is zapped out of the air ● Ha! Dark Messiah calls DD out on being dressed "in the garb of Satan" ● his three "Disciples of Doom" step forward: Josiah the Deceiver, MacAbee the Tall, and Uriah the Faithful ●👏👏👏
Synopsis: When street performer Mordacai Jones is seriously injured when he is attacked by a dog during one his street performances, he is rushed to the hospital by Daredevil, however instead of getting medical treatment, his unconscious body is captured by a mysterious figure who changes him into the Dark Messiah.
With Black Widow still recovering from injuries sustained in her battle against the Man-Bull, Daredevil has to combat the Dark Messiah alone, after the Messiah has used his powers to free "disciples" from prison. During his battle against the Dark Messiah, Daredevil is struck down and is soon shocked to find that the prisoners that the Messiah had freed were given powers as well and joined his Disciples of Doom.

Location: The Saddest Lil Bar in Rome Person: Josie @crcssrcads He doesn’t do stuff like this. He doesn’t do stuff like this because he spends so much of his time at the shop, editing the podcast, snooping around where he shouldn’t be. If he drinks, he drinks at home in front of his computer, while playing video games, he doesn’t do it in public, it just doesn’t appeal to him. But he wants a steady supply of alcohol, knows he’s going to pay an arm and a leg for it. It’s fine though, it’s all fine and everything in his head feels like white noise. That’s what he wants, he wants to just give in for a moment, to just quiet everything for just an evening and weed only reminds him of her, of smoking out the window in the Vatican, so it’s gotta be this. Gabriel has his own shit to deal with outside of him, outside of them, and he needs to just sit there, he needs to just drink and forget that he’s useless. Someone sits down next to him and they say something but he’s got his arms on the bar, one hand around a glass of whiskey and he doesn’t hear them, not clearly. “I’m sorry what?”

It’s been a little while since I last mentioned the Josie’s Bar Podcast, so I wanted to be sure to promote it again. The basic facts:
This is a weekly podcast covering all of Daredevil one issue at a time, hosted by one longtime DD fan and one fan who has not read the comics before, joined at intervals by a rotating roster of guests.
I am on the rotating roster of guests.
In the most recent episode, linked above, we discuss Daredevil volume 1 #58, featuring the first appearance of Stunt-Master and the 58th appearance of Matt-Being-a-Jerk! This is a great podcast both for people looking to revisit back issues and for people discovering Daredevil for the first time. Check it out if you’re interested!

Let’s head over to the Larsons!
Is this Jason showing a hint of interest in his son? Gaze upon it, for it will never happen again.
The twin’s LTWs are both job related, so I settle them down to skill.
And then in the evening, it’s stargazing time.
Don’t remember that at all, but thanks for the free stuff!
Jason: So, this is a telescope. Jodie: I know, Jason. Jason: You look through it. Jodie: I KNOW, JASON. Jason: And sometimes aliens do butt stuff to you. Jodie: I KNOWWWWWW!!!
Jason had a day off, so I sent him out to test the Desiderata Valley Boardwalk, where he brought a commemorative photo. Jason: Hey, good-lookin’.
Then he built some sandcastles...
...And did a little busking. Zoe: Not bad, here ya go!
Both twins have Music and Dance as their OTH, so I let Josie do some dancing. She wanted to win a competition, but the option isn’t showing up, which is annoying, but not enough for me to troubleshoot.
Josie: This counts as winning.
Genie: Sooo... Jodie: Fortune Sim. Take a wild guess. Genie: Money it is.
Jason: Not enough counters! You haven’t got room for more!
The reason I had him serve a meal? Guests! Erin: I have regrets.
Kristen: Hey cutie. Jason: *high-pitched squeaking*
And then she broke the computer. Jason: Really, Kristen? I invite you into my home, I make you dinner and this is how you repay me? You think I can afford a repairman? Good thing Jodie needs a few mechanical points.
Jodie: I’VE CHANGED MY MIND WE’RE HIRING A PROFESSIONAL!
Kristen: WHY IS THERE SO MUCH FIRE!? Erin: I’M TOO PRETTY TO DIE!
Jodie: OK, got me a bath and a sack of cash. I feel better now.
But just to help her recover (and because Jason had it locked), I send the twins on vacation.
Jodie: Awesome, I could use some good luck at work.
Jason: You know, sis, I was thinking we should really immerse ourselves in the culture while we’re here. Jodie: You mean new clothes? Jason: I do mean new clothes!
WEEBS.
Unfortunately, Jason just wants to skill. I think it’s because he was a work when the vacation started, so he refuses to roll any fun wants and there’s only so many pictures of him reading I can stand to take.
So I plopped a karaoke bar down!
The only tiny flaw on this lot is, every time I see these out of the corner of my eye, I think something’s broken.
Jason: New picture! Jodie: Neat! I’m gonna take one of the whole lot!
Some hot springs...
One and only sighting of the ninja. Ninja: Portal jump!
More karaoke!
Jason: I have finally decided I would like to make a wish.
Wishing Shrine: Fuck you. Jason: Yay!
Local: So your brother just spent the first two days reading books? Jodie: I’m going to use my new money to disown him.
But first, more music.
And then home again. Jodie: I had such a good time on holiday. Can’t wait to see my pictures!
Um, those aren’t your pictures. Jodie: I’ll sue.
Jason wanted the more expensive telescope, which I decide to read as him expressing a desire to be probed. Jason: There’s an actual want for that and I don’t have it. I don’t see any fears for it either though.
Jodie: Ho hum. You know what? You need friends. Jodie: UGH.
Julien: Wow, you suck at this game. Jodie: I’M TRYING.
Damn dude, just start a whole podcast or something.
Townie: So what’s it like having a genie lamp? Jason: Technically it’s my sister’s, but she did let me go on vacation with her, so that was nice.
Jason: Speaking of my sister, could you let the boss know I won’t be in to work tonight because Jodie just ran over my whole hand.
He’s getting pretty good at ballet now.
And Jodie dresses all fancy to play the violin.
It’s the weekend and Jason’s finally rolled a date want instead of endless boring hobby wants, so I had him invite Kristen over.
Jason: Date? Kristen: On the sofa.
Jodie: I’m still in the room, you know. Jason: Maybe we should take this somewhere else. Kristen: Your room? Jason: Oh, no, I only have a single bed. I was thinking dinner anyway.
Because surprise! Jason: Kristen, I really like you, and we have a child together, I think we should think about the next step-
Kristen: Um... no. Jason: What? No??? Kristen: I live with room mates. You live with your sister, and neither of us is really financially stable. I’d like us to at least be able to afford a house of our own before we do... this. Jason: Is this about the computer? Kristen: OF COURSE THIS IS ABOUT THE COMPUTER, I DON’T NEED A LECTURE, I’M NOT FIVE!
Kristen: I do want to marry you though. Kristen: Just... not right now. Kristen: Kristen: Are you OK? Jason: NO.
She really does want to marry him too!
Jason: Doesn’t make me feel better.
Jodie is also having a bad day. But it doesn’t really compete.

Hi, I found your cool page from Claire on the Josie's Bar Podcast. I loved the Immortal Iron Fist and I have been following along with Danny's story since. One question I had was how the evolution of Danny's powers happened. When did it go from just the Iron Fist punch to healing, and psychic abilities, to enhancing his other physical abilities through his chi? I know after finding the Book of Iron Fist he got a power upgrade, but I was wondering if some of it progressed earlier. Thanks, Daniel
Oh wow, hi! I’m so glad you found me that way, Daniel, and thank you for reaching out. I’ve loved listening to you on the podcast. You’re right, Danny did get a power upgrade after getting access to the Book of the Iron Fist (he discovered new abilities, was able to use his powers without being drained by them, etc.), but many of the variations in his power-set were actually introduced much earlier. For example, Danny learned use the chi of Shou-Lao for healing in Iron Fist volume 1 #4, in which he saves himself from dying of his injuries after getting caught in a collapsing building:
Yu-Ti: “Then save yourself, young dragon!”
Danny: “H-how!?”
Yu-Ti: “The power lies within you, as it always has, nephew. The legacy of Shao-Lao can heal as well as kill... The Iron Fist is not a weapon-- it is a force of will... and used properly, it can accomplish... miracles.”
Iron Fist vol. 1 #4 by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Janice Cohen
In the same issue, he also discovers that he is able to absorb and channel other energy sources-- which also comes back later in the run:
Danny: “It’s happening again, just like when I fought Radion! I can feel the power burning thru me, trying to kill me-- yet my body shrugs it off as if it were... nothing! It’s like I was absorbing the power-- using it--”
Master Khan: “This cannot be! First the youth stands against the Bishran Bolts, now he resists the fatal Flames of Faltine! What manner of man is he?!”
Iron Fist vol. 1 #7 by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Bonnie W.
And this is also the run in which Danny discovers his ability to mind-meld, which he uses to free Colleen Wing from supervillain brainwashing:
Colleen: “You can’t hold me forever, hero-- the only way you can stop me is to kill me!”
Danny: “Not true, my... friend. There is one other way. I can take the power of the Iron Fist... focus it as I’ve never... focused it before... take my force of will... my chi... my soul... and use it to bridge the gap from my mind... into yours.”
Iron Fist vol. 1 #6 by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Karen Mantlo
So yes, while Immortal Iron Fist contributed a huge shift in worldbuilding and added extensively to the scope of Danny’s abilities, Iron Fist writers had already started delving into the eccentricities of his powers very shortly after his character was first created. The versatility of Danny’s power-set, and the long tradition of playing around with it, is actually one of my favorite things about Iron Fist.

I'm assuming for all of them and I just read volume 4 of Waid's run so I have feelings about this thanks for letting me vent (and I'm assuming you mean all of them for the asks)
So here we go:
Who hogs the duvet? Foggy hogs it, so they do that European thing where Matt gets his own so Matt doesn't get woken up in the middle of the night by Foggy savagely ripping the blankets out of Matt's hands.
Who checks in during the day? Look in Daredevil issue 1, the entire Saturday Matt was hunting down the Fixer, Foggy was wandering around, wondering if Matt had fallen down a manhole, so Foggy checks in. A lot. Before he found out about DD, it was cuz Matt was blind and would go missing, after finding out about DD, it's to make sure Foggy isn't bleeding out. (Matt is a creeper tho and listens in to what Foggy is doing throughout the day.)
Who's the most creative when it comes to gifts? I think I saw a few panels that implied Matt never remembers to give gifts, so by process of elimination, Foggy.
Who gets up first? In law school, Matt. After Matt started moonlighting as a vigilante? Foggy. (Matt needs his beauty sleep)
Who suggests new things in bed? Foggy suggests various ways to cuddle.
Who cries at movies? Not Matt "Repression" Murdock
Who gives unprompted massages? Foggy did for a bit in law school, but stopped when he found out that Matt didn't like being randomly touched
Who fusses over the other when they're sick? Canonically, Matt. See Matt accompanying Foggy to his doctor's appointments.
Who gets jealous easiest? Foggy. The boy has low self esteem (and canonically gets jealous of attention Matt gets)
Who has the most embarrassing taste in music? Foggy has the most embarrassing taste in music, but Matt gets embarrassed over his own music more. (This goes into Matt growing up poor when Foggy didn't: Matt never learned what rich people like in music, and his music reflects that.)
Who collects something unusual? Foggy (plastic dinosaurs, tho that's MCU Foggy)
Who takes the longest to get ready? Foggy, but it's not like either of them take a long time (Foggy has to style his hair)
Who's the most tidy? Matt, though a lot of this is by being blind (from what I can tell, blind people have to keep everything organized, or they lose track of what's where.) Also, this is why initially Foggy was a hellish roommate for Matt (well, part of it).
Who gets the most excited about holidays? Foggy.
Who's the big spoon/little spoon? Foggy, by virtue of being drawn at 5'6".
Who's the most competitive at sports? Matt since he is arrogant (I also feel like it might be him reacting against ableist jerks, but idk enough to say)
Who starts the most arguments? Foggy since Matt's method of dealing things was taken from the book of mormon musical (thanks Foggy)
Who suggests they buy a pet? Okay, have you heard of Deuce the Devil dog? Hes a real comics character that Foggy got for Matt to help Matt fight crime (Deuce is a retired police dog) so canonically, Foggy.
What couple traditions do they have? Matt always let's Foggy know before he's going out, and Foggy is almost always awake when Matt gets back. Also after Foggy got a Daredevil tour of the city (that tour is canon) they do it on a semi regular basis
What TV shows do they watch together? I dont think they watch TV shows, instead they listen to podcasts.
What other couple do they hang out with? Ok so their social circle isn't super big, so I don't really see that happening all that often with anyone. Matt's a bit of a loner, and his regular firebombing of Foggy's life can make finding hangout buddies difficult.
How they spend time together as a couple? Hanging out at the local bar (hello, Josie's), going on long walks. Foggy likes to test Matt's senses.
Who made the first move? Oh boy. There's a lot about Matt that's going on, making this a muddled mess. A few things about how I headcanon Matt for the sake of this ship.
Matt deals with his emotions poorly. He dosent realize he's attracted to Foggy. He doesn't know what's going on. At all. He thinks he's straight. I know I put in the Area 51 fanfic that Foggy isn't Matt's boy because Fogs is married, Matt is Catholic, and Matt is straight. No. Matt isnt. But he dosent know that. (That was my alternate character interpretation, btw.)
Matt would, if he figured out he was not straight, actively decide to not act on it, at least initially. (I suppose this would make him side b, ie, not acting on the gay for religious reasons.) I feel strongly about this.
So it would require a conversation (or several dozen) with Foggy to figure out what he's feeling, and to get Matt okay with a romantic relationship.
At some point in this, Matt deduces Foggy's feelings.
Matt would then decide to make a move.
Who brings flowers home? Neither, they make Matt sneeze.
Who's the best cook? Look my man Foggy does not have a bacon and limburger cheesecake combo named after himself for you to in any way, shape, or form, imply he is the better cook or has a better palate. (I do headcanon Foggy as a good baker though. Oddly enough. Maybe because I'm projecting my desire to be a good baker.) Matt is the better cook.
Thanks for the ask!
#mattfoggy#the area 51 fanfic secret is out#i dont write any Matt Murdock as straight#just some degree of repressed#and side b#matt Murdock#foggy nelson

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Annual 2012: Big Trouble in Little Italy
Read Date: January 15, 2023 Cover Date: October 2012 ● Writer: Kevin Eastman ◦ Tom Waltz ● Art: Kevin Eastman ● Colorist: Ronda Pattison ● Letterer: Robbie Robbins ◦ Shawn Lee ● Editor: Bobby Curnow ●
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
Reactions As I Read: ● oo, I like that Kevin Eastman does the art for the annual! It really hearkens back to the Turtles' early Mirage days… but in color! ● Leo, Mikey, and Donnie are parkouring through the city for training exercise while Raph and Casey do their own thing somewhere ● Donnie and Mikey finally convince Leo to call it a day, as they've been training hard that day ● Can I say that the idea of Splinter watching soap operas makes me so happy ● cut to Casey Jones on a rooftop near JOSIE'S BAR! (I love the ties with Daredevil) ● he's beaten Raphael in a race to the top. Raph, being a sore loser, tackles him and they both plummet to the alley, their fall broken by deep garbage ● They hear a crash, and a suitcase flies through the air beside them ● a homeless man, British by the look of his dialect, greets them. Casey says he knows that guy, but Raph says to forget it for now, they need to check out the crash ● car crash victims:
Eric Conner, driver for the savate ninjas
Louis Royo, underworld arbitration specialist; a go-between in a suit
Kanada and Timmy Two Shoes, possible cause of crash, two-bit no-good crooks ● a couple of cops (?) show up, Corbin and Miller, wondering what the hell the other is doing there ● (5 minutes earlier) two other people in the car
Fershid Diaz, lieutenant for the savate ninjas making a delivery
Max Frezatto, savate ninja strongan and bodyguard. brawn, bullets, and braggadocio ● apparently there's $5 million in the briefcase ● the deal is between the Savate Ninjas and the Foot Clan ● Kanada and Timmy Two Shoes are standing in the middle of the street, looking at the baseball bat that just fell from above (Casey's bat, dropped when Raph tackled him) ● Ah, the homeless man is Kid Kennedy, Scottish, former boxer. His earlier, "Oi, where'd ye come from, eh?" was a greeting to the briefcase that landed in the alley, not a greeting to Raph and Casey ● Kanada and Two Shoes go into the alley in search of the briefcase; they see it in Kid Kennedy's cart ● they threaten Kennedy for the briefcase, but the former boxer holds his own ● another Scot, Fightin' Ferguson, comes out of the bar the Skara Brae (which is where Casey's dad hangs out), and finishes off Two Shoes and Kanada ● (5 minutes earlier again) (this is kinda fun) ● Angel and the Purple Dragons gang outside Skara Brae. The bartender inside is Brooklyn S. Bridge, Angel's dad ● Brooklyn and Ferguson hear what sounds like Kid Kennedy ● cut to after the fight. open the briefcase and it's full of diamonds. (gems and jewelry would be a pain in the butt to fence, wouldn't it? just give me a cashier's check) ● Brooklyn sees Casey and Raph; he knows Casey because of his dad. orders them inside to figure out about the case ● they start talking about getting rid of the diamonds when there's a knock at the door ● 5 minutes earlier… back to the scene of the crash, and Corbin and Miller ● Max (bodyguard who was in the car) and Corbin (one of the two dirty cops) were in cahoots for an ambush to make off with the diamonds ● they wander to the Skara Brae to use the phone ● they call a guy called Fabrice ● 5 minutes earlier, Fabrice's p.o.v. His description: leader of the savate ninjas. French and frustrated. ● he orders Victor (Savate second-in-command) to go find the diamonds; he thinks this is a double-cross by the Foot ● Victor and Miller working together like Max and Corbin ● 5 minutes earlier, in the antique shop that is the new lair ● they see a news bulletin about the crash and see Raph and Casey in the background
● Splinter tells the remaining 3 to go get Casey and Raph ● in the bar, they decide to drop the diamonds back at the crash scene and let the cops find them on their own ● Foot Ninja, with Karai and Shredder both in attendance. Shredder tells Karai to gather her best ninja and go find the diamonds ● Corbin and Miller overhear Kanada and Two Shoes, who admit the diamonds are at the Skara Brae. Corbin and Miller secretively let their associated know as well (Max and Victor) ● word gets around, all the heavies converge on the pub ● Savate, Foot, and TMNT all clash ● Brooklyn, cops, Purple dragons, more Savate in pub ● fighting, fighting, briefcase keeps changing hands ● (I don't thing SWAT just drive around until they're summoned somewhere…) ● SWAT shows up, TMNT disappear, Foot vanish, Savate fall back ● nothing left to see but Casey's baseball bat ● next day, Shredder tells Karai that the Savate are going to die ● Raph and Casey are doing the dishes as punishment ● 👏👏
Synopsis: Leonardo, Michelangelo and Donatello are racing over rooftops, having just finished their workout. Donatello is disgruntled because Raphael is off with Casey rather than participating in their teamwork, but Leonardo seems more accepting. They head home for the night to the Second Time Around apartment, and greet Splinter.
At the waterfront, Casey Jones and Raphael wrestle and trash-talk as they tumble down the side of a building, landing in an alley. Suddenly they hear a car crash somewhere nearby, and as they rush to investigate, they're nearly hit by a flying briefcase and encounter a homeless man that Casey recognizes. When they get to the crashed car, Raphael smells leaking gas, and declares that they have to get the passengers out before it blows up. At the same time, two small-time crooks named Kanada and Timmy Two-Shoes scuttle away from the crash scene.
They rescue the men inside - including three Savate ninja and a professional underworld arbitrator, Louis Royo - just before the police show up. Unfortunately, a second cop car arrives before Casey and Raphael can flee the scene, driven by the two crooked cops Corbin and Miller.
A brief flashback shows that the Savate were on their way to pay five million dollars in tribute to the Foot Clan when their way was blocked by Kanada and Timmy standing in the street, looking at Casey's "flying" bat. The car spun out of control, and as it crashed, the briefcase full of money was sent flying into the shopping cart of the homeless man, an ex-boxer named Kid Kennedy.
Kanada and Timmy spot the briefcase and decide to steal it from Kennedy. A fight breaks out, and Kennedy is defended by his old friends Fight'n Ferguson and Brooklyn Bridge at the Skara Brae. Once Kanada and Timmy have been disposed of, Ferguson looks inside the briefcase, and is shocked to find diamonds.
Brooklyn spots Casey and Raphael on the street nearby, and orders them inside the Skara Brae. Raphael is dismayed by this development, since he's been spotted for the second time in one evening, and he's sure Splinter will be upset. Once inside the pub, Casey informs the three older men of where the briefcase came from and how they came to be there, Brooklyn predicts that whoever had the briefcase will come looking for it, and kill whoever has it. So he suggests that they quickly fence the diamonds and split the money amongst themselves.
Back at the crash site, it's revealed that Corbin is on the payroll of Savate bodyguard Max Frezatto, while Miller is working with Royo to steal the diamonds. Both cops arrived at the crash site as part of prearranged meetings with the car's passengers. Royo and Frezatto head straight to the Skara Brae in order to use the phone, and are surprised to find it closed. Inside the pub, Brooklyn orders the others to hide the case and act as normal as possible while the two underworld figures are there.
Elsewhere, the Savate leader Fabrice sees the crash on television, and is enraged by the loss of his car. Frezatto calls him from the Skara Brae, and tells him of the loss of the diamonds. Fabrice is convinced that this was all a setup, and so commands the two to go back to the scene of the accident, so he can send a troop of Savate ninja - led by his second-in-command Victor - to find the diamonds or kill who has them.
Back at the Second Time Around shop, the other three brothers are grousing about Raphael's long absence, especially as it is his turn to do the dishes. While Michelangelo is channel-surfing, Splinter spots a news report about the crash, which includes a photograph of Raphael's face. He orders Leonardo to go find Raphael and Casey, and bring them back as quickly and quietly as possible. And as the Turtles head out to find their brother, they spot a line of Savate ninjas running over the rooftops, and decide to follow them.
At the Skara Brae, Royo and Frezatto depart. Brooklyn argues that they should split the money from the diamonds' sale, but the others disagree with him. Ferguson argues that they should simply dump the briefcase near the accident site, and Kid Kennedy volunteers to do so.
At a Foot Clan facility, Karai and Shredder are informed about the loss of the diamonds. Shredder order Karai to take the diamonds from the crash site, and declares that one way or another, the Savate will pay.
Royo and Frezatto stumble across Kanada and Timmy scheming to reclaim the briefcase for themselves, and quickly learn from the two thugs that it's at the Skara Brae. The two separate for a moment to call their respective crooked cops, declaring that they now know where the diamonds are. A Savate lieutenant, Fershid Diaz, quickly informs Fabrice of the diamonds' location as well.
As Miller and Corbin converge on the Skara Brae, Kid is preparing to depart with the briefcase. Raphael and Casey decide to follow the older men, out of concern that the Savate ninja will find them. As they leave, they realize that Kid and Ferguson aren't heading back to the crash.
Ferguson has decided to sell the diamonds himself, in hopes of getting Kid the brain surgery he needs and a trip back to Scotland for them both. However, they run right into the Savate. Before the Savate can do anything, Raphael, Casey and the other Turtles all arrive to defend the old men, and the Foot Clan arrives to take the diamonds themselves.
Miller and Corbin burst into the Skara Brae to demand the return of the diamonds, and are interrupted first by Angel and the Purple Dragons, and then by Fabrice and the Savate. A massive fight breaks out, with Fabrice being knocked out by one of the corrupt cops. Brooklyn orders Angel to call in the cops, and a SWAT team is summoned to the Skara Brae.
While the Foot and Savate battle over the diamonds, the Turtles decide that they simply need to get Casey and Raphael and get out. The briefcase is tossed from person to person until Karai and Victor both manage to grab hold of it, only for Michelangelo to swoop in and take it instead. As everyone piles on him, the briefcase is sent flying again and is caught by Casey. He tosses it away, only for it to fly open and scatter the diamonds inside.
Just then, the police arrive, and all three groups of ninjas decide it's time to leave. By the time the police make their way in, they find nothing but a baseball bat. The diamonds have fallen into the water below the docks.
The next day, Corbin and Miller view Fabrice, Royo and Frezatto in their jail cell, and swear off any further dealings with ninjas. Now that Victor is the new leader of the Savate, Shredder declares that the only tribute he will accept from the Savate is their lives. The Skara Brae is being restored to normal. Kanada and Timmy are still down on their luck.
And at Second Time Around, Raphael and Casey are washing dishes as a punishment for having gotten involved in so much trouble. After they've finished, they race each other again, and Raphael tackles Casey down a building, sending his bat flying once again.

AudioUp “The Ballad Of Uncle Drank” Comedy-Musical Podcast Released On August 30th
Audio fiction podcasts continue to attract well-known actors, with Gary Busey and Luke Wilson starring in a new comedy-musical podcast.
Audio Up’s newest scripted, country-musical podcast sprang from the mind of Audio Up CEO/Founder Jared Gutstadt.
It’s called The Ballad of Uncle Drank, which is an eight-episode comedy event starring veteran actors Gary Busey and Luke Wilson, Brian Kelley, Chelcie Lynn, Jared Gutstadt, Billy Zane, and Scarlett Burke, among others.
The podcast is set to premiere August 30th across SiriusXM audio entertainment platforms — including the SXM App, Pandora, and Stitcher — and other major podcast platforms in the U.S. and will include original music written and produced by platinum selling artists Uncle Kracker, Snow, and Gutstadt.
Audio Up will also release an original soundtrack alongside the podcast later this fall, with the first single, “Biggest Dock on the Lake” featuring Uncle Kracker, releasing on August 26th.
Listen to the song HERE.
The eight-part series gives a new comedic take on the music industry throughout the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Artists and fans alike tell the somewhat true-life adventures of long-forgotten fictional country superstar, Uncle Drank — a lovable, drunken and free-spirited beach musician who traveled the world with his best friend BLENDY, a talking blender, and then mysteriously disappeared in 1992.
One-part Kenny Chesney and one-part Kenny Powers, Uncle Drank’s music and story will take listeners on an adventure through an era that time has forgotten. Before Jimmy Buffet ate a cheeseburger in paradise, and before Kenny Chesney sang about wearing no shoes, no shirt and no problems, there was Uncle Drank.
Watch the official Uncle Drank trailer HERE.
“I feel Uncle Drank is one of my sub personality parts, so there will be no acting required,” said actor Gary Busey about his role.
“Uncle Drank was widely known as the inventor of beach-country and trop rock,” Audio Up CEO Jared Gutstadt explains. “He lived his life by worshiping the seven B’s… Bars, Birds, Beaches, Boats, Beers, Babes and of course…Bananas (for his mixed drinks). He allegedly inspired everybody from Luke Combs to Brad Paisley — and it is rumored that Drank even chose the color of the red solo cup. Originally they were orange… Imagine that!”
Audio Up’s current scripted podcasts include the season two of Make It Up As We Go with Scarlett Burke, Garrett Hedlund, Elle King, Shooter Jennings and award-winning Nashville songwriter Liz Rose among many others; Webby honoree for Best Limited Entertainment Series Podcast Halloween in Hell with Machine Gun Kelly, and Strawberry Spring, the first-ever adaptation of the classic short story by Stephen King, starring Garrett Hedlund and Milo Ventimiglia.
Listen to this quote from Audio Up’s President of Music PJ Bloom: “Aside from being truly hilarious, this is a great way to show innovation within our music business. Jared has a great track record writing for artists across many different genres. Now, we are inventing artists of the future who live inside the podcast, but could ultimately tour, become brand ambassadors and create lucrative IP across film, television and streaming.”
Bloom’s reference casts time echoes of a previous generation when TV shows created musical groups such as The Monkees, The Partridge Family, and Archie Comics’ Josie and the Pussycats.
Now, musical podcasts are the “big bang” for musical acts. Consider that podcasts now generate original music from Dolly Parton in the Run, Rose, Run podcast to AudioUp and Audible with the announcement that the official soundtrack to the critically acclaimed and multi-award-winning Audible Original podcast, Maejor Frequency, from Audio Up and Audible is out now to streaming services.
Following the podcast’s debut episode, original tracks will continue to be released with the full podcast soundtrack, including bonus songs available after the finale episode.
The release of these high-concept, audio fiction podcasts like The Ballad of Uncle Drank with talented creators and actors attached to the project continues to show current podcast listeners and potential podcast listeners that the format is more than simply true-crime shows and angry politicos howling at the moon.

Mystery: Truth Be Told by Katherine Barber
What an intriguing read! This book challenged the way I percieved the way we interact with social media and how our involvement can hurt people.
I loved how the author integrated a podcast, tweets, and reddit posts into her story to give the reader the outside perspective of who Josie Burhman is and how she deals with her father's murder being reexamined 10 years later by a nosy journalist in a blunt, no holds barred podcast that exposes her and her family to the world's opinions once again.

Introducing Gabriel Ruegg, the first full-time faculty member in MCAD’s brand-new product design major.
A product designer since 2007, Ruegg was most recently a senior industrial designer with Lifetime Brands, Inc., in New York. His practice has included design research, branding and marketing, and user interface, and his clients include Williams-Sonoma, KitchenAid, and ESPN Books.
Here are nine things to know about one of the newest additions to the MCAD community.
His interest in product design was first sparked by …
Being frustrated with products. “I’ve always felt like a lot of products and spaces didn’t quite fit me. Don Norman, an early advocate of user-centered design, uses the classic example of the symmetrical push-bar on a door, where you don’t know which side of the door to push on. So encountering these little everyday things and thinking ‘there’s got to be a better way!’ is what first drew me to product design.”
You can find his products in …
The kitchen.
He was drawn to MCAD for …
The opportunity to build a product design program from the ground up. “Since starting this process I have been talking to colleagues about what they wish they would have known before they started working as well as favorite aspects of their design educations. I’m excited to be involved in getting things up and running and fleshing out the curriculum.”
First on his list of things to do in Minneapolis is …
Explore. “I’m just excited to see more of the city. It’s funny, I haven’t even been to St. Paul yet.”
The thing he’s most excited about in the field of product design right now is …
Accessibility. “Today you can start a company or create a product with so much less than you could in the past. With things like Kickstarter, 3D printing—3D knitting now, too—you don’t have to have a million dollars to start up a business. I find that really interesting, and it is something that I think is going to be one of the focuses of the new product design program.”
Speed round!
Most recently binge-watched?
Orphan Black
Currently listening to?
Memory Palace and a bunch of other podcasts. “I’m a total podcast junkie.”
Cool company to keep an eye on?
Festool. “They’re sort of like the Dyson of power tools.“
All-time favorite product?
A really good kitchen knife. “I work in kitchenwares, but I’m also kind of a purist, so something that is classic, functional, high quality.”
