You’re right. If I made Kazama I had to make his wife, Josie.
Silly me.

Silent but Crafty Siblings
I completely blame @labyrinthofleah and @spyoflove for the following fluff.
-------------
The moments began to tick by second by lingering second. The only sound in the room was the faint melody of an instrument being played elsewhere in the castle. Kazama tried to take a calming sip of his tea. Which made him grimace. This wasn’t her tea. This was something one of the servants made because she was too busy to get up and make it. His red eyes gaze ran along the rim of his cup and across the room where the woman in question sat. Needle in hand across from another man.
Kazama sighed loudly. Again.
“If you are so bored, why don’t you go train? Or boss about the servants like you enjoy doing.” Josie finally announced, her own eyes still trained towards her hands.
He began with a indignant huff, “I do not-” before stopping as he felt another pair of ice blue eyes staring at him. Amagiri nodded slightly.
“Amagiri, shut up.”
“I did not speak.” Amagiri said in his defense.
“To that end, I do not recall summoning you here.” Kazama said smugly and tried to sip his tea again before grimacing.
“I invited him.” Josie said with a small smile. “Dear Husband. Can I not invite my own brother to spend time at my house?”
Kazama sighed and finally just put down the cup, it’s contents not worth his time anymore. “No, wife it is fine. But the two of you sit here stabbing fabric-”
“Crocheting.” The siblings answered in unison.
“It doesn’t matter. The two of you sit there doing practically nothing for hours in near silence.”
“You’re talking, it’s not much silence.” Josie said as she turned the pattern in her hands, Amagiri tried to muffle his laughter. Kazama sent a deadly glare in his direction before rolling his eyes. “I tried to teach you, but you did not like it.”
“I prefer to have my stabbing to be more… entertaining.”
“Yes, yes.” Josie pacified and then silence engulfed the room once more until Kazama stood up in a huff and began pacing about the tatami floor. Before eventually storming out leaving the Amagiri siblings to their crafts.
A few hours later, Josie found Kazama sitting in front of a lantern reading over some reports given to him earlier in the day. Quietly she entered, though knew her presence was no secret, though before he could say anything she draped a rather large comfy blanket across his shoulders and sat down beside him handing him a very aromatic cup of tea. Before he could say anything she wrapped the blanket around them both and leaned her head on his shoulder.
Maybe he could deal with a few silent crafting hours if he got quality time like this.
---- Epilogue ----
A few weeks later, as Amagiri and Shiranui were out walking in the small town Amagiri noticed the drop in temperature. No sooner had he done so did Shiranui sneeze loudly. As the boisterous man began complaining about the weather Amagiri slipped a large scarf from his satchel and dropped it onto Shiranui’s head. With a confused look, the blue haired man suddenly smiled and wrapped himself up in his new and very warm gift.

Sound of Silence (Chikage Kazama)
Tagging: @spyoflove @labyrinthofleah
Part 1: Chikage Kazama
Kazama was strolling along the familiar road passing by the same shops he had dozens of times before though had never thought to stop at since his destination was much more important that trivial trinkets or clothes. Eventually the small shop at the end of the block came into view and he quickly ducked inside. He waved his way past one of the girls at the front, his face was verification enough for him to gain entry so he paid no mind to the worried look she wore as he passed.
As he made his way to his normal seat he finally took a moment to look around. It was possibly more quiet than usual, not that he minded in the least. And finally his eyes stopped on the group seated next to him and nearly growled.
“What are you doing here?” Kazama said lowly.
“Good day, Kazama.” Leah said brightly with a smile. She had become used to his sour disposition and honestly still wasn’t quite sure why her best friend chose such a disagreeable man. Well, one look and she shook her own head. She knew why.
“I did not know that business was so good that you could turn away customers.” Leered Okita from Leah’s side.
“This is not my business, worm. If it were, I would have you killed on the spot.”
“Tough words from someone who depends on his wife for income.” Hijikata added, his own face turning into an evil grin.
“Um.” Chizuru spoke up and Hijikata’s smile faded away, choosing instead to lean back in his seat and lay a possessive hand on Chizuru’s back. “Speaking of Josie. Where is she?”
“Ooh! That’s right! We came here specially for her.” Heisuke spoke cheerfully before receiving a slap to the back of his head from Harada. “O-OH! I mean. Her tea. We came here for her TEA!”
“That’s right, Heisuke. We used to frequent her place back in Kodo. It was a shame when it was lost in the fire. What a surprise it was that it popped up here!”
“Haha. What are you talking about, Sano. You were practically crying in front of the ashes of that store. Me and Heisuke had to peel you off the floor lots of times.” Shinpachi bellowed and the three men squabbled for a bit, breaking the quiet atmosphere of the teahouse. Kazama could feel his eyes twitching. Silently one of the worker girls walked nearby but was too nervous to break up the comotion until Saito spoke up.
“You three are being a nuisance to the shop’s patrons.” After a few mumbled apologies, Saito nodded at the woman who now felt as though she were on stage with the amount of stares now pointed towards her.
“U-Umm. My Lord.” She said addressing Kazama through trembling lips. “L-Lady Josie is not here at the moment.”
Kazama waved his hand. “That is fine. I have no pressing matters. I will wait.”
“N-No… it’s just…” She looked towards the Shinsengumi.
“Oh, no pressing matters? How like a rich lord.” Hijikata mumbled before receiving a pointed look from Chizuru and he glanced away.
“Heh. Hijikata finally found his match, huh?” Okita snickered before receiving his own jolt as Leah’s smile hinted towards nothing happy.
“N-No. It’s just she… isn’t coming back to the shop today.” Her words were nearly whispered as she finished her sentence. The three rowdy members already began getting louder, as Saito spoke up.
“Is there something the matter with her?” Saito asked and Kazama quirked a brow.
“Uh. She was coughing quite a bit. We thought it was best if she went back home to rest. We were told not to shut down the shop since it was a busy day…”
“Coughing? You don’t-” Leah began but stopped as Okita held her hand under the table and gave it a squeeze.
“She said she felt fine, she just wanted to rest for a bit.”
“I didn’t think demons could get sick.” Heisuke said quietly out loud receiving another slap, which sparked another small squabble. During the comotion, Kazama quietly stood up and left the building.
“Hm. Never saw him so worried about someone.” Hijikata mumbled.
“I hope Joise will be okay.” Chizuru said.
“Knowing her, she’ll be back flitting around the shop and bossing around that guy in no time.” Harada said with a knowing smile.
“I had no idea you thought so highly of her.” Saito replied.
“Yeah, maybe we should call that guy back so you can tell him yourself.” Okita joked and the sounds of the chaos of the Shinsengumi faded out the further Kazama walked.
Eventually he made it back to his estate, a maid meeting him as he approached the bedroom.
“My Lord, Welcome home.” She said with a bow which Kazama didn’t even notice as he continued walking by.
“Um. It would be best if you allowed Miss Josie an evening to rest. She has been feeling unwell for the past few days and is resting now.”
“Few days?” Kazama asked.
“Yes, my Lord. Though her coughing just started today.”
“Hm.” Kazama thought to himself, upset that he didn’t notice it sooner.
“A-Ah! But I had no idea how she was feeling she told me that earlier today. She has been very good at hiding her symptoms.” Kazama hummed again before walking forward. The maid tried to stop him but it was no use.
He quickly made it to the room and quietly opened the door. She was laying in bed, a bowl of water and a damp cloth was nearby. He approached her and very softly ran his hand across her skin, she was a little warm, but nothing worrisome. She was sleeping very soundly, which was new for her since normally she would awaken at the slightly sound.
It was later in the evening, Josie surmised as she finally began to stir, her throat felt like twas on fire as she tried not to cough, the convulsions brought even more pain to her raw throat. As he stirred in bed she felt her pillow was much firmer than she remembered and soon she felt a cool feeling trace along her forehead. With great effort she opened her eyes to see Kazama above her. Her head was laying in his lap and he was brushing her hair out of her face.
“How are you feeling?” Kazama asked looking down to her. She tried to sit up, but Kazama held her down softly. “No, I did not ask you to get up. How are you feeling?”
She attempted to speak, but only coughed at the effort. She pointed towards her throat.
“Hm. Your throat hurts? And you can’t speak?” He asked and she weakly nodded. “Understood.”
He laid his hand back on her forehead, a silent command to lay back down and relax. She was too tired to do anything but comply so she laid her head back onto his lap as he called on the maid and sent her to get some medicine and warm tea for her throat. And so she spend the night being spoiled by her worried husband, though he would never allow anyone to say such things about him.
A few days later, Josie was feeling better, but her voice was still scratchy so she chose not to speak to conserve her voice. It was this day that Amagiri and Shiranui visited the estate. Shiranui was loud as ever as he recounted a few stories of their trip. Josie sat in the room with the men (crocheting) sipping tea until Shiranui directed the conversation to her.
“Hey Josie. You okay? You haven’t said anything since I got here. You dazed by my good looks finally?” He asked a big grin on his face, Josie rolled her eyes.
“Shiranui, make that joke again and I’ll make sure your ‘good looks’ are spread across the country in tiny pieces.”
“Touchy as always, Kazama. It was a joke.” He waved it off and approached where Josie was seated. “Isn’t that right, Josie?”
“Shiranui. Don’t bother her, she was sick until a while ago and is still recovering.”
“Oh? So that was it. Didja lose your voice?” He asked and Josie gave him a look before nodding slightly.
“Ah. Well, that must be good new for you, right, Kazama?” Shiranui asked, his grin from before back and with new vigor. “You always said her nagging voice could wake the dead. Guess you’ve had lots of peace around here, huh?”
Josie silently glowered as Shiranui laughed and she witnessed Kazama give a small grin before sipping at his tea.
“Well, it has been peaceful. But it would be best not to praise someone’s illness.”
Josie only stared blankly at her husband before letting out a small huff. Kazama raised his eyes towards her and she quickly raised her hand to her mouth and let out a small cough. Amagiri watched the scene silently from his seat.
It was a few days later when Amagiri visited the estate, alone this time. Kazama was seated at his desk looking through some files as Josie was flipping through some book uninterested.
“Good evening Kazama, Josie.” He nodded to his sister who nodded back.  “Feeling better?” Josie looked up but before she could respond Kazama grumbled from his seat.
“No she still cannot speak. Her other symptoms are gone, but her voice has not returned.” Kazama was visibly worried, his anger could barely cover up his obvious concern. It was then that Amagiri looked back to his sister, with eyes matching his own and saw her give a small smile. He raised his eyebrow in question and she raised a finger to her lips for him to keep her secret. He nodded in agreement. Kazama may be his boss, but Josie was his sister, and plus it was amusing to see him in this state.
The next two weeks went by and Kazama was slowly beginning to unravel. It was strange to have his wife, someone who could command armies with her loud voice. Who charmed strangers with her melodies, and who was the only one who could tell him exactly what he needed to hear become silent. He had tried to summon outside doctors, but she kept telling him, through gestures or writing, that she was fine, that her voice would come back soon. But when is soon? He would ask himself.
Until finally one evening, as he was nearing pulling out his own hair in frustration, Josie sighed from where she was leaning against a doorway.
“Chikage.” She said softly and saw him freeze in place as if he were checking if he was finally hearing things.
“Chikage.” She said again and he whipped his head around to see her and looked at her imploringly wanting to see her speak for himself before he made any movements.
“Are you tired? Let’s go to bed.” She said softly and he practically flew to her and swept her into his arms.
“How? When?” He asked her his eyes trained on her lips.
“My voice? I told you it would be fine once my sickness was gone.”
“Yes. But that was weeks ago, and-”
“And you told Shiranui that my voice could wake the dead.” She said sternly and finally his red eyes tore away from her lips to stare at her eyes.
“You?”
“Have been able to speak for a few weeks now. I wanted you to know what it was like without my nagging voice. You enjoy the peace, right?”
“When did I-...” Suddenly his face went stern as he now vowed to kill Shiranui the next time he showed his face. Josie lifted her hand and tapped her finger on his creasing brows.
“This isn’t Shiranui’s fault, plus I’ve already taken care of him. He’s been working at the tea shop running errands all this while. I made sure there were LOTS of errands.” She smiled and just the sight melted away Kazama anger.
“I’m not sure he’s the only one that should be punished.” Kazama said lowly.
“Oh?” Josie asked with a cheeky grin.
“Did you think you could trick your own husband and not get properly punished?”
“I’m not sure it deserves a punishment, when it was your own fault for speaking badly about your wife.”
“Hm. I suppose we’ll have to find out if that’s the only thing then.” H grinned and swooped in and they shared a kiss. They shared their evening together, as Kazama was sure to make sure he would get his month’s worth of her voice at once.
---------
Epilogue
---------
One day at the Tea Shop, Heisuke, Shinpachi, and Harada made their way inside to take a break. The shop was surprisingly busy, and they were hopeful to see Josie back in her element. In a flash, they saw a very flowery kimono in front of them but as they looked up to the face, Shiranui stood there his face just as confused as theirs.
Seems Josie had sent over the Kimono to the shop just in case it was so busy that Shiranui would need to help serve customers.
Seems Chikage isn’t the only evil demon in the Kazama household.

“I didn’t realize you actually had feelings. I’m going to have to reset my entire mental image of you.” - Hakuoki!AU senses tingling
@labyrinthofleah
Fun times, Leah. Here ya go.
————-
“Josie!” Leah shouted reaching out for her hand. “Come on, we need to go. The Shinsengumi are leaving.”
Josie scrunched her eyes as she looked off towards the dock where several blue uniforms were beginning to board a boat. “I…. They’re not going to accept me.”
“What are you talking about I-”
“Are the very necessary assistant to Dr. Matsumoto, who has very handy fighting skills. I’m the local flirty tea wench. They’re not going to take me with such limited space on the boat.” Josie sighed. “Plus I’m pretty sure their ninja knows I’m a demon.”
“Josie…. what does that matter anymore? Several of the captains, including Hijikata are furies…” Leah pleaded with her friend, “Plus, what about Chizuru-chan?”
“You’ll still be there, right?” Josie weakly smiled. “She’s in more than capable hands.”
“Jos-”
“Hey, Leah. You Ready?” Okita asked as he jogged up to where the girls were standing. “This the demon Yamazaki mentioned?”
“Uh… yeah.” Leah replied.
“You come here to try to take away the kid? Gotta warn ya, I don’t think the Commander is willing to let her go anymore. Hope you’re ready for a fight.” Okita announced with a smile unbefitting his threatening words.
“Afraid not. Might break a nail, and then I’d have to skin you all alive.” She replied a similar smile on her face.
A tense moment passed before Leah had enough and she placed her hands on Okita’s chest pushing him away. “That’s enough. Okita, Let’s go.” With a parting glance towards her friend, Leah turned away and the two of them walked towards the boat. In the distance Josie saw Chizuru and Hijikata walk on board, for a brief moment she thought Chizuru looked in her direction, but she eventually went below deck.
Moments later, the boat pulled away from the dock. Just as Josie was momentarily regretting her decision a single tear fell down her cheek. But she didn’t have time to suffer when she felt a presence beside her.
“Regretting your decision?” Kazama said lowly before glancing to her face, a moment of surprise. “I didn’t realize you actually had feelings.” Josie rolled her eye as she raised a hand to wipe the tear from her face. “I’m going to have to reset my entire mental image of you.”
“In that case I’m not exactly sure what type of heartless person you thought of me then.”
“Someone who was willing allow her own store to burn so she could follow some girl.”
“You went to check for me at the tea shop?” Josie asked and raised an eyebrow. Kazama’s face remained stoney as he watched the boat begin it’s journey to Edo. The afternoon sun casting a warn orange light on his features. “I suppose I am going to have to reset my mental image of you as well.” She replied and looked out to the ocean, missing the small smile that grew on his face.
“Well, shall we be on our way then?” He asked turning away and Josie followed mainly out of confusion rather than desire.
“And what way would that be?”
“Surely, you don’t think so little of me to not know that you plan to go to Edo as well?” He asked his back to her though he could just hear the surprise in her voice.
“I-” Josie stopped cold as she looked past the man to see a horse tied to a nearby tree. “And why would… you…?”
“Call it a whim to see this story through to the end.” Kazama said as he pulled himself up onto the horse’s back.
“And why would you help me?” Josie asked ever suspicious of his motives.
“Are you willing to find out?” He asked and offered her his hand.

“Take it and run.” “What?” “Take it and run, before they find out you’re here.” “I just thought I’d have to, you know, fight you for it.” - Josie/Kazama
@labyrinthofleah
Leah, I couldn’t think for the life of me of an item they would fight over. … And so…
As Josie ran through the woods, branches swiped at her skin causing welts and streaks of blood to appear along her what was once an expensive kimono. Behind her she dragged Chizuru who was struggling to keep up with her unforgiving pace - her fatigue and shorter legs proving a hinderance. It wasn’t by chance that she found her young mistress. No, after her confrontation with Kodo and Kauro. She suspected they would go after her eventually.
Hijikata reluctantly parted with her after what could be called a touching moment with the Demon Commander (an apt nickname as the color drained from his hair, she thought). Josie grabbed her arm and took off into the thicket. But they were not alone. Not by a long shot. She could still hear the furies chasing them. The sounds of war nearly deafening in the once silent woods.
After a few more twists, turns, and a few close calls, Josie suspected they were in the clear for the moment. And they stopped for a moment to catch their breath. City life had done her no favors, but thankfully she was dedicated in her training - more so than Chizuru who looked ragged as she gulped down mouthfuls of oxygen to fill her lungs.
A sudden rustle of leaves and Josie lunged blindly - catching a silver blade in her bare hand. The owner of the blade stood almost surprised - well, as much as Chikage Kazama could show such an emotion on his face.
“Kazama!” Chizuru quietly gasped and his red eyes slid to her and then back to Josie who had still not released his blade, a trickle of blood, color to match his eyes, flowed down her arm.
“What are you doing?” Josie growled lowly at him, Kazama didn’t even flinch at a glare that would send normal men fleeing.
“Would you believe a stroll in the woods?” He asked flatly and Josie flared her nostrils in disdain.
“I would not.” She replied just as flatly.
“Then you are at least smarter than you appear.” His eyes quickly darted around them and Josie finally released his sword, which he carefully flicked clean of her blood before stowing it in it’s sheathe. “I came looking for you.”
Josie’s eyes slid to Chizuru, and did not notice that Kazama’s stayed on her. The blonde flexed her hand a few times, happy when she realized her wound was already beginning to heal. Chizuru looked between the two of them carefully, noting how neither seemed to back away from the other, and how for one of the first times since she’s been around him, Kazama seemed more interested in someone else besides her. She quietly began to ponder the reason.
“I should not be surprised to find you here, always seem to be where I least want to see you.”
“Is there a place that you would rather see me? Preferrably in a situation where my life is not in danger?” He asked, voice almost hinting towards levity until Josie met his eyes.
“None that I know of.” She replied and finally walked away, missing the low hum of contemplation from behind her. “Milady we must be off as soon as you are ready. Evening is approaching and the path will not be easy to follow in the darkness.”
“Uh, but..” She scrunched her eyebrows refusing to make eye contact with the man behind Josie.
“If he so much as lays a finger on you, I will make sure he will lose his hand completely.” She did not have to turn to see the man to know he had stifled a chuckle of amusement. The sparse moments they shared together told her he was at least aware of her prowess in battle, and though he was ruthless in some of his endeavors he at least had some honor about him.
“Please, Milady we must-” but before she could finish she tensed and curled her hands into fists. “Too late.” She nearly whispered and Chizuru placed her hand on her shortsword.
Josie frowned at the sight. She would be a poor guard indeed if her master was forced to fight. And with a chance glance behind her she made eye-contact with Kazama.
“Take her and run.” Josie said decisively before turning back around towards Chizuru and pushed the girl behind her back towards Kazama.
“What?” Kazama asked understandably confused. Chizuru gasped.
“Take her and run, before they find out you’re here.” Josie planted her feet and took a steadying breath. Trying to count the amount of approaching footsteps. “Can you not hear?”
“I just thought I’d have to, you know, fight you for her.” He replied with a shrug as if a person’s life was not at stake.
“I plan to hold you to that fight, but she must make it to the Shinsengumi. I made her a promise.”
“But you have to live too, Josie!” Chizuru shouted and went to run to her, but was stopped as a strong arm held her back. She shook as she looked up to the man, but he was not forceful as he had been back in Kyoto. His red eyes were glaring, almost worriedly at Josie.
“There are easily a dozen approaching.” He said gravely, half hoping she would understand reason and choose to flee with them
“More reason to get her out.” A steadying breath and she looked over her shoulder. First to Chizuru, her master, and reason for living until that day. And then to Kazama who… she could not let herself be distracted. A small nod and she turned towards the woods before quickly darting into the thicket.
“JO-” Chizuru started to chase her but the vice-like grip on her arm stopped her. She looked back to Kazama who’s eyes were still trained to the spot that Josie disappeared. The moment stretched on a few seconds longer before he turned and began walking in the opposite direction. Chizuru momentarily thought to flee away from him, but fell in behind him, soon hearing the sound of battle nearby. She sent up a prayer for Josie.

"You're not supposed to see me before the wedding!" --> Josie to Kazama "I do whatever I want" Chikage
Josie stood in her room looking down at her clothes. It was a beautiful white kimono made from the finest silks. Her fingers toyed with the edges to feel the luxurious material. She briefly thought over the past few months that brought her here - it had been a whirlwind for both her personally and the Japanese people. But Kazama insisted to have a ceremony.
Sen and Kimigiku had been helping her get dressed being the only females she had grown close to. There had been other females in Kazama’s clan, but none that she got as close to. She figured they were wary of her since she would soon be married to the clan’s head.
She was lost in her thoughts as the door slid open and then closed quietly. “Sen, did you find the hairpin?” She asked smoothing down the front of her kimono. Suddenly two hands circled around her waist and pulled her into an embrace. Josie jolted until a deep soothing voice spoke to her.
“You look splendid my bride.” Kazama said snuggling into the crook of her neck.
“K-Kazama!” She harshly whispered, afraid if anyone heard her cry.
“Chikage.” He corrected.
“C-Chikage. You’re not supposed to see me before the wedding!” She pouted turning away from him. She felt him smirk into her skin.
“Hmm?” He feigned ignorance.
“Don’t ‘hmm’ me. It’s supposed to be a surprise.” Josie pouted again.
“What surprise. I bought your dress. And I’ve seen you, both in… and out of clothes. Why should I wait?”
“Kaz… Chikage. Why can’t you follow by the rules?”
“I make my own, my dear. And I say why wait to consumate our wedding?”
“B-Because…” She falter off.
“Hmm?”  He smirked again feeling her resistance crumbling.
“Kazama Chikage - get out of here!” Sen’s voice rang out loud as she walked back into the room with the aforementioned hairpin.
“The Yodo Clan Head has no say in my home. You’re interrupting.”
“Now see here-” Sen began.
“AMAGIRI!” Josie yelled out and as if on cue the taller man walked into the room with a sigh.
“Kazama.” His gruff voice said solemnly.
“Why do others presume to boss me in my own home.” He said with a growl and eventually let Josie go as she was pulled away by Sen.
“Look, you can have her all to yourself AFTER the ceremony.” Sen said with a sigh. “Well, within reason.” She added.
From outside of the door Kimigiku softly called towards Josie. “My lady. Your guests have arrived.”
“Oh!” Josie said excitedly.
“Guests? Amagiri, did we know about her guests?” Kazama asked with a snarl.
“Shiranui was told to tell you. It seems he did not.” Amagir said with a shrug. Thankfully a demon’s glare couldn’t kill another demon or Amagiri would be dead.
And before Kazama could reply a ruckus could be heard from outside.
“JOSIE?! We came to rescue you -OW! Don’t hit me Hijikata-san!” Heishi’s voice called out.
“Idiot. We’re not rescuing her. This is her wedding.” Hijikata’s voice replied.
“Well, it would serve that fellow right for stealing her from us.” Shinpachi mumbled.
“What was that Shin? You wanted to marry her yourself?” Harada joked. And while he was laughing Kazama flung the door open and glared at the members of the Shinsengumi, a small yelp came out from Heishi.
“What do you insignificant humans think -”
“We were invited.” Hijikata replied and a stare-down began. Josie quickly poked her head from behind Kazama and waved. Saito nodded in acknowledgement. A whistle came up from Harada before Kazama got angry at others oggling his wife and he and Amagiri stepped outside of the room slamming the door behind him.
“Awww! I wanted to see her more- OW!” Heishi pouted.
“We will see her more. During the ceremony.” Saito’s calm voice replied. Eventually their voices faded away and Sen and Josie sighed.
“Do you really think inviting the Shinsengumi was the best idea?” Sen asked with a little chuckle.
“Well. Probably not, but they’re practically like family since my father and Kaoru aren’t around.” Josie replied and gently placed the hairpin into her hair.
“Hahah. I might actually pity Kazama to have to deal with your ‘family’ then.” The two women looked at each other and laughed at the thought.
Hopefully the house would still be standing long enough for the ceremony to finish, but knowing her husband and friends, that might not happen.

“My legs are long and sexy.” or “I’m not looking down on you. Except literally.” for Josie/Kazama tho
It was a disaster. There was no other way to describe it. Chikage Kazama, Head of the largest pureblood clan of demons stood in front of a table filled with what could only be described as a disaster. Although he did not need to try to impress his future bride, not that she had much choice in the matter he supposed, but somehow he had found himself wanting her affection as well as her body.
So after thinking hard about it and no thanks to certain lackeys who honestly were no more help than his own thoughts. Chikage Kazama decided to make Joise a meal. It couldn’t be that hard, he told himself. He’d seen plenty servants serve him over his lifetime and none of them seemed all that special. And although Amagiri had found a recipe book, Kazama couldn’t be bothered following someone elses instructions.
It wasn’t until he had called for Josie to join him for the meal and he finally set all the dishes out on the table that he realized that the meal did not look at all like what he was accustomed to being served. And after a shocked yelp from Josie, he figures his realization must have been true.
“U-Um. D-Did you... make this, Kazama?” She asked holding her hand in front of her nose in an attempt to block some of the odor of burnt food.
“I refuse to let you look down on me because of this.” He stubbornly said, as he sat in his normal chair pointing down indicating he wanted Josie to do the same.
“W-well, I’m not looking down on you.... except literally.” She quietly said and quickly fell to her seat as Chikage glared up at her. “But this looks... uh...”
“Regardless of the exterior it will taste spectacular since I was the one who made it.” He gracefully reached over and deposited something that was both too burnt and slimy onto his plate. “Now-” He started as he gingerly picked up the item with his chopsticks and brought it close to his mouth. It was immediately slapped out of his hand by Josie who looked almost as shocked as he did.
“Ah! I’m SO SORRY!” She said and quickly bowed to her knees. “I did not mean to strike you, Kazama, but I couldn’t let you eat that!” Chikage was so surprised at her reaction he couldn’t even spare a thought to glare at her. “L-Look, if you wanted to cook... u-um. Maybe we can cook together?” She asked glancing up from the floor.
Chikage thought for a moment and tilted his head ever so slightly. It was true that his attempt at a meal did turn out less than perfect. And He was aware that Josie could cook, having told him that she used to do so with the Shinsengumi while she was with them. Suddenly the thought that those puny mortals had been able to eat his own wife’s cooking while he had not made him boil with anger. So with a proud huff at the thought, he gently placed his hand under Josie’s chin to pull her up.
“I suppose cooking alongside your future husband will be a treat for you.” He said a gentle smile tugging at his lips. Josie was a little confused at his words but couldn’t deny she enjoyed this soft side of him as well. “However, I expect only the very best meal from your hands.” He had to stop himself from saying ‘nothing you would serve to those shinsengumi fools’, not wanting to sound jealous.
And so, the two exited to the kitchen in order to save what they could for dinner.

Send me a ? for my muse’s reaction to yours not saying anything after mine has expressed their love to them.
-----------------------
The silence at that moment was deafening as Chikage Kazama stared blankly at the scene before him. That evening he had come to visit the tea-house owned by Josie’s family. He had been there plenty of times before, though this had been a rare moment he found himself on the upper levels where the living quarters were. He knew that Josie lived alone, with Leah dropping in occasionally. There were still a few customers in the lower levels, the sounds of muffled talking and clinking of dishes which had been nearly drowned out by the tension in the room.
Kazama was still trying to process Josie’s words. ‘If it is my Lady’s wish to go with you to sire an heir, I will not speak against it. Though, I fear it conflicts with my own personal desires and affections, my Lady’s wishes are absolute.’ It was clear as much as it was subtle: Josie had confessed her desires and affections towards him. He was equal parts shocked and unaffected. Being the head of the largest pure-blooded demon clan, he had been a desirable bachelor for many female demons seeking to change their fortunes. However, he did not expect the stoic demon-guard to ever share that particular affection.
His silence must have been answer enough for Josie, though Kazama honestly still could barely register the words let alone a reply.
“I wish you well then milord. As I wish you and my lady’s abundant happiness.” She nearly choked out the last part of her words as she awkwardly bowed her head and walked out of the room back down to the tea-house and her guests. It wasn’t until he heard the door slide shut that he even turned around. He momentarily thought to go after her, but that would be showing a type of weakness he was not prepared for. Plus he needed time to sort through thoughts. Thankfully it was about the time he had planned to meet Amagiri to discuss their next plans to steal the female demon from the Shinsengumi.
But just as he was leaving the tea-shop he found he couldn't help but spare one last look towards the window he jumped from, silently hoping there would be a face asking him not to go.

——————————–
Josie stood stunned in front of Kazama, steam nearly billowing from her face at the rage she felt towards the man. Her hair was beginning to lighten and her horns slowly began to peek up through her blonde hair.
“Hmph.” The man huffed at her display. “If this is the best that the Yukimura Clan has left to offer, I can see why they fell to the humans.” Josie nearly lunged at the man but his red eyes slowed her movements momentarily. “Disgusting that you would dare show your demon form where humans could see it so easily.”
His words hit here like a well placed punch to the gut, but now she could only see red - the red of his eyes and the red slowly filling up her vision as her body nearly went into overdrive. How dare this man, no matter his status or the fact that he was a demon, say anything about her Mistress’ clan. All she wanted was for him to die.
But before she could make a move, suddenly her body lifted up for a brief moment and she glanced down to spy Leah who was trying to get them both out of middle of the road. It was the middle of the night so there were not many people out, however, Leah had memorized the Shinsengumi guard schedules and they were dangerously close to being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
They had been lucky enough that none of the Shinsengumi knew about them being demons, and it would be beneficial to keep that rouse up. And yet here was Josie wide open in the middle of the road looking very much not like a human.
“We need to go. Now.” Leah said quietly but firmly to Josie who had locked her eyes back on Kazama.
“Run off with your tail between your legs, Yukimura Clan.” Kazama boasted and it was then that Leah lost hold of Josie who rushed up to the demon head and suddenly there was a loud clank. Leah turned to spy Kazama who had drawn his sword blocking Josie’s hand which was at the level of his throat. Kazama did not even look surprised as he stared at the woman.
“If my Lady commands it, I will take your head. Demon-clan head or not.” She said and Kazama briefly saw a line of blood drip down her arm from where his sword was being firmly held in her hand. And yet as quick as she approached she left off into the night, Leah right on her heels. Kazama took a moment to flick his sword clean of her blood before sheathing it in his scabbard just as he heard muffled voices of the Shinsengumi guard approaching. As a whisper on the wind he was gone as the men rounded the corner, they would have no idea of the tension that was there merely moments before.
