In my painting, a lone ferret lays deceased on a lab table with a syringe––perhaps one of the many experimental injections for risky gain-of-function research. This work is a lament for the atrocities of vivisection (animal testing). The seven rose petals are symbolic of a funeral. It is my way of eulogizing the Black-Footed Ferret, the most commonly used species for coronavirus vaccine experiments, due to its lung structure resembling that of humans. While at first ferrets showed promising signs of antibody response, many died later when exposed to the wild virus [iii]. Today, animals are experimented on in labs all over the world, and, as a result, just like the ferrets, many of them prematurely perish due to compromised immune systems.

Corey Helford Gallery presents a four-artist exhibition with new artworks from Kelogsloops, Bao Pham, Sasha Ira and Josh Tiessen.
Kelogsloops (aka Hieu Nguyen) series, 'Haven' is a continuation of his previous body of work, 'Breathe', and is a series of watercolour paintings that collectively define the places we go to find escape and quietude. Placed throughout the works are decorated elements of fragility which hope to capture a sense that the paintings are all fleeting moments suspended in time.
Bao Pham's series, 'The Rain', is a loosely connected narrative chronicling the changes that have come Bao's way this past year. Rain brings life and colour, but it can also bring devastation. It has been a great source of joy, sadness, and most of all inspiration. Each piece is a reaction to this theme.
Sasha Ira's series, 'Undercurrents', came about from her own personal feelings and the emotions that she was going through while she was creating the pieces for the show, and even though she feels her work is more simple, Sasha hopes people see the sincerity and love that goes behind each piece.
Josh Tiessen's series, 'Streams In The Wasteland II', was inspired by Isaiah 43:20-22: "The wild animals honour me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland …yet you have not called on me, Israel." Josh has applied Isaiah’s prophecies, which reflect the nations’ lack of honour for their Creator, to civilizations across vast time periods, whose greedy desire for wealth and power ultimately led to their demise.
The opening reception is on Saturday December 14 from 7pm-11pm at Corey Helford Gallery, 571 S Anderson Street (Enter on Willow Street), Los Angeles, CA 90033 in Gallery 3, alongside the sixth annual Art Collector Starter Kit VI group show (featuring new 12" x 12" works by 100 artists) in the Main Gallery and Lauren Marx ’s solo show, 'Chimera', in Gallery 2.
The exhibition will be on view through January 18 2020.

Four Artist Show at Corey Helford Gallery.
Currently on view at Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles, California is a four person exhibition featuring work by artists Bao Pham, Josh Tiessen, kelogsloops and Sasha Ira.
Bao Pham’s art is instantly recognizable for his soft, precise and colorful portraits of wistful and melancholic figures set in lush natural settings. He incorporates eastern elements and designs using traditional western techniques with a touch of the surreal.
Josh Tiessen is considered one of the world's top ten prodigy artists (Huffington Post) and the only known male art prodigy in North America (Dr. J. Ruthsatz, global prodigy expert). His hyperreal shaped oil paintings, which take 400-1200 hours to complete, reflect the interaction between the natural world and manmade structures, drawing upon his studies in philosophy, theology and intercultural aesthetics.
kelogsloops specializes in both digital and watercolor paintings, often depicting female portraiture as his preferred subject matter of choice. His work blends abstract and surreal art styles with anime influences from his upbringing. He paints with the intention of capturing fleeting and intangible feelings, portraying his figures suspended in time.
Lastly, Sasha Ira is a talented artist known for her eye-catching portraits of beautiful women. Her art is inspired by Art Nouveau, fashion illustration, and Japanese anime styles.
The exhibition will be on view until January 18th, 2020.
