We met Joseph Coelho at Milton Keynes Central Library today! Joseph is an award-winning performance poet, playwright, children’s author, and the current Waterstones Children’s Laureate 2022-2024. He’s currently undertaking a Library Marathon, collecting a library card from every library authority in the UK. Some of the books Zoe illustrated are available in Milton Keynes library, so Zoe was delighted to show Joseph two that weren't checked out. He was so lovely with her and looked at all of her illustrations, commenting on how well she's done. Such a friendly person - it really made her day! Books of 2021: Thr Girl Who Became a Tree by @josephcoelhoauthor ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 ***** My love for novels in verse continues with another book that is both heartbreaking and inspirational that really touches the human soul. Partnered with breathtaking illustrations that are both haunting and enchanting, this @ckgawards Longlisted book (and I'm not surprised why it was nominated) brings out the really hard truths of the grieving process and the feelings a person may have during it is so realistic that the reader will have a hard time not feeling what the main character is going through. I also love the tie in with mythology, that was a very nice touch and actually added a deeper meaning to legend.
