A little sneak peek of something I'm working on as of late. A.k.a. old hyperfixation came back and grabbed me by a throat.

Darkness. It surrounded him. Encircled him. Suffocated him.

His eyes gazed around, trying to see through the darkness. In vain. There was nothing but darkness. He couldn't even see his fingers, no matter if they were in front of his eyes. He could have covered his eyes with them and nothing would have changed.

Even though so similar to the darkness of his hood, it was completely different at the same time. His hood provided security, comfort and protection. It was calm, gently wrapping around his frame.

The darkness around him was anything but. Instead of the familiar comfort, he felt a chill travelling up his spine. The darkness held danger. Hidden from sight, it circled his small frame. Observing. Waiting.

He turned around, only his sense of balance telling him he did. There was nothing for him to see. And yet, he felt something in the darkness. It was there. It was lethal.

Suddenly, something changed. Two ominous pink orbs appeared high above his head. He stepped back unconsciously, frowning at the sight. He felt the chill go up his spine again.

The orbs stared down at him. Their glow penetrated the darkness, and, at the same time, seemed to devour it. They were familiar. And not in a good way.

“A funny little man,” a disembodied voice said.

The pink orbs shone brighter. He felt his whole body tense at the voice. It was quiet, barely a whisper. But in the overwhelming darkness it boomed in his ears. It was scratchy, parched. As if whoever spoke haven't drunk anything for a very long time.

He grit his teeth and clenched his fists to stop himself from trembling. He didn't understand why, but the voice terrified him. He recognised the voice, he heard it before. Where was it? Who was it?

“You don't seem like much,” the voice continued.

He huffed, frowning further. He knew that voice. Who did it belong to? Try as he might, he couldn't remember. The only thing his brain came up with was a constant urge to run. Rattling, banging against his brain.

Run. Run. Run.

The air changed suddenly. He heard a swishing sound. As if someone inhaled slowly. Took a long, deep whiff.

“You have some black dragon inside you,” the voice spoke again. The pink orbs grew, coming closer. A skeletal, ghoul face emerged from the darkness. The pink orbs, the eyes, stared down at him. “Delicious.”

He stared back, body frozen in terror. He knew that face. Now that he saw it, the name instantly appeared at the back of his mind, pushing through the constant Run, run, run it barraged him with.

“Toross,” he breathed out, his own voice no louder than the Necro's.
