My Lawyer Dio AU

I just want to clarify that I looked the characters up and researched if their birthdays were established. I’m keeping the canon ones and just made up some for those who don’t have a specified birthday.

We all know that Dio finished law school by the time he was 20 or 21 years old and 120/121 by the time Giorno was four. So I’ll just take this and move everything to the “modern” time.

Which basically means that Jonathan and Dio were born in 1967/68 instead of 1867/68.

But first of all, I’d like to specify that Stands still exist and Jonathan has his wonderful Hermit Purple but with roses. I’ll come up with a name later, I guess.

Also, since Jonathan is very much alive, Dio has his own body and is therefore still his canon height (185cm/6 ft 1 in)

To elaborate further:

Jonathan was born on April 4, 1968

He was 20 in Part 1, so I’ll just keep that in this AU as well. Only difference is that it’s 1989.

Now, I like to think that Dio’s older despite coming to the family later, which is really funny. Like, imagine you’re an only child until one day your father adopts a boy who’s like a year older than you and you end up having an older brother who’s the total opposite of you.

Since there’s no specific birthday, I’ll just make something up. Sooo… Dio: January 2, 1967

Obviously, this is also mudad, so I’m keeping his sons’ canon birth dates. But this also brings a few issues, if you will.

Giorno was born on April 16, 1985, which means that Dio was 18 when our Disney Princess was born.

He’s canonically a manwhore and I don’t intend on changing that anytime soon. He simply fucked around a lot in his last year of high school and the entirety of law school and ended impregnating four women.

I’ve checked and there aren’t canon birthdays for the other three, as well. All we know are their birth years. More to come up with for me.

Donatello: March 12, 1987

The thing is, despite being born in the same year, I like the thought of Rikiel being a few months older than Ungalo even tho he’s the local crybaby at home.

Rikiel: February 25, 1988

Ungalo: September 10, 1988

Now, Dio’s not the only one with children and I want to include George II and Erina too. George II’s canon birth year is 1889, so I’ll keep that as well but it’ll mean that Giorno, Donatello, Rikiel and Ungalo are older than him.

Since he doesn’t have a specific birthday, I’ll just add nine months to Jonathan’s canon date of death, which is February 7, 1889.

George II: November 11, 1989

Guess what, Erina also doesn’t have a specified birthday!! We only know that it’s some time in 1869. Hmmmmmm…..

I want her birthday to be in June, to be honest.

Erina: June 26, 1969

Let’s not forget the grandpa, of course. The only thing I’ve found out is that he died in 1888. I want him to be 45, which would mean that he’d be born in 1843.

So, we’ll just take that and move it to the 20th century and we get May 16, 1943.

Let’s get to how our local hoe finds out about his sons. As I’ve already mentioned, Dio was 18 when Giorno was born but he didn’t know and obviously didn’t get custody right then.

It went like this:

Homeboy was sitting in his study in the year 1990 and was going over the most recent case, when one of the butlers came in and delivered a letter.

It was signed by all four of his past flings and it said that all four of them had a son each. They gave him a location to meet ‘cause neither of them really wanted the custody of them. At first, Dio thought that it might be a lie to get money since he’s the adopted son of a famous aristocrat but he also believed that it might be true.

Jonathan found out, because of course he did, and immediately sent a butler to get the car ready so that Dio could go. Dio didn’t have another choice but to do so, since his lovely brother just had to get involved.

Turns out the letter was honest to God and Dio came back with a five-year-old who had pitch black hair, a three-year-old with brown hair and two one-year-olds in his arms, one of which had dark skin and black hair with hot pink highlights styled into locs and the other with unusual pistachio green hair.

Welp, at least George II wouldn’t have to grow up alone🤷 anyway-

George I was delighted to have even more grandsons but he didn’t exactly approve of Dio being a manwhore, since that’s the opposite of how he raised his sons to be.

I want to include D’Arby and Vanilla Ice (as well as Hol Horse and maybe a few others of the Agents of DIO) as Dio’s personal butlers because it’s fun to imagine his sons judging them because of their fanatical loyalty to Dio, but I’m not sure how.

I’ll probably make him move into a different manor maybe four years later, where he has his own (canon) butlers/servants, whatever you want to call them. But I’ll obviously let them stay in England, a grandpa and an uncle want to see the kids, okay?

Dio still has his shithead asshole personality but he doesn’t go as far as wanting to kill his adoptive family and trying to claim the inheritance via vampirism, to the point where he literally wants to achieve heaven.

Nah, this man cares for them but is extremely bad at showing it, even though Jonathan and George know. Jonathan always knows. Dio had to learn the hard way that he can’t hide shit from his brother.

He has a good relationship with Erina, they constantly make fun of each other and hey, would you look at that! He didn’t forcefully kiss her when they were twelve!! She can kick ass and he acknowledges and respects that.

Coming back to the Stands, Dio noticed that The World is very useful with four rat children who can do nothing but cause chaos and misery for him. Especially when one or all of them decide that running into traffic is how they want to spend their evening.

I’m not exactly sure but I think it’s established in canon that Giorno is the only one who’s a born Stand User. I’ll change that in this AU and make his brothers born Stand User as well.

The years pass, blablabla, Giorno still takes over the Italian Mafia because he can and gets rich even tho he already is and his brothers still don’t know what to do when they’re adults.

But! They find out their older brother has started dating some dude (“his name’s Hugo or something.” “are you stupid, it’s Fugo” “Gugo, like I said.”) and they spy on them when they’re out on a date.

Dio doesn’t exactly care if or whom his sons date, or which gender that person has since he’s a bisexual slut who keeps sleeping around, but he’ll make sure that neither of the four are taken advantage of and checks their partners’ backgrounds and lifestyles behind their backs.

Now, adding the fact that he’s a slut to his career as a lawyer: he wins every case.

Reason number one: he’s beautiful

Reason number two: he’s charismatic

Reason number three: he’s manipulative

Reason number four: he’s cunning

Reason number five: he’s convincing

Reason number six: he sleeps with the judge when his client is actually guilty

One of his sons: are you ever gonna give us a stepmother or stepfather?

Dio, planning his next one-night-stand: step-what?

He reluctantly leaves his sons in the care of his obnoxious brother when he has to go somewhere for work-related purposes. He’d rather die, though. (When they were children, at least. When they were 15/13/12/12, he began leaving them at home in hopes of finding it still in one piece later)

It’s basically a huge mess with a lot of chaos and misuse of some Stands (“didn’t I tell you two to stop using your Stands in the mansion?” “Ungalo started it.” “LIAR! Donatello started it.”) but it’s also fun and Dio wouldn’t trade it for anything.

He promised himself to never stoop down to the level of his piece of shit birth father, and he’s keeping that promise.

Oh yeah, he still poisons Dario before being adopted by George I. Normal, am I right?

Brooo, yes!!!! I didn't think of that but that did give me an idea of what the last fight could turn out like! I'm really sorry if it's long and for the spelling errors I hope you don't mind but here's the drabble!

Sparks of gold filtered through the vines that were wrapped around the young boy's torso.

Blood gushed in waves and the sheer amount of delicacy they needed to not injure the remaining organs was hard enough with them moving around.

Jorge could feel the desperation of his son (a son, his son, the kid that he's been taking care of for over a year now) and the fear that was rolling like buckets off of him.

He'd be denying it if he said he wasn't scared too.

A stone wall broke behind them letting debris fly past them, some even hitting their target.

Dio was chasing them like a bloodhound and wasn't relenting any time soon.

"Come on kid, don't close your eyes just yet..!"

Hamon flowed deeper into the gaping wound.

This was too much even for them but what else could they do? Let the kid die? (He already lost Magician, his friend and partner in crime, there was no way he would let Hierophant and the kid lead that same fate.) They were already past the internal organs, they only needed to heal just a bit more before they could call it safe.

Hopping from building to building they could feel how annoyed the vampire was getting as they could care any less.

Joseph's lungs were burning and his back was aching from all the hits it was taking. All he could do was run, run, and think of a plan, run, and try to find Jotaro and Polnareff and warn them.

But he was too slow.

A huge sign crashed into them knocking them off the roof. Joseph immediately used himself as a shield while Jorge used his vines to ease the fall.

On the streets of Egypt, the people were running around scattering away from them, some even laughing at their appearance while others showed distaste.

They didn't have any time to gawk and look around if they did then Dio would come after them quicker than before, they were already at a disadvantage since they couldn't even notice when he uses The World, a cruel stand for cruel man.

Gasping for air Joseph limped away trying his best to get some distance, Kakyoin still in his arms could barely make a feint breathing sound.

As his eyesight stopped shaking in the distance he made out the figure of someone he recognized. Yes, he would recognize them anywhere with that hat.

"Jotaro! Take Kakyoin with you and run! Dio-!!! Time-!!! He can stop—!!!"

Jotaro was riding through the streets on a motorcycle he had stolen to find where the fight was going on, he had backed up into the streets where he had heard the commotion happen, two figures falling from the roof, the news travels fast here huh.

Star was out but barely visible, he was acting as his eyes and before he knew it he was in the street face to face with his grandpa on the ground carrying Kakyoin both seemingly injured with blood gushing from everywhere he looked.

If it weren't for Star who shook him back from his shock he would have missed the message. But he didn't care for that now, he needed to get to them, he needed to get them to safety–

A knife embedded itself in the old man's throat cutting off his airway, making him let Kakyoin fall with an unceremonious thump.

Hermit writhed its vines whipping around endlessly, its figure flickering from existence as blood gushed from the wound in Joseph's throat.

"Jo- jotaro...!!! Don't go... near him!!! Kept a dis... tance..."

Dio watched as Jonathan's grandson slumped to the ground unmoving. Without that annoying Hamon Kakyoin would be left to bleed to death and that annoying Joestar would soon follow too.

This was going great for him! Now he only needed to take care of Jotaro.

He stopped mid-step looking down at his arm, flickering purple vines with roses wrapped around them prevented him from moving it. Tch, Passion was working up again, how annoying.

"Old man...!!!"

Jotaro was angry- no, seething with rage and despair watching the scene in front of him. He trembled with anger as he disregarded his grandfather’s words and walked forward.

Dio smirked "Oh? You approaching me?" He sounded amused at what he was seeing.

"I can't beat the crap out of you if I don't get closer!"

Immediately Star was right by his side and much like him his eyes were burning with rage.

Jonathan much like Hermit could feel what his great-great-great-grandson could feel and much like him he felt rage.

Why? Why did this have to happen? This fate was too cruel for them. He cursed his range, if he could get any closer he would scoop both of them up and get somewhere safe yet they were too far away.

A barrage of punches swept the streets leaving buildings and cars damaged, both The World and him fighting head-on.

"Is this really all you've got?"

For a second Jonathan swore he saw the most sickening disgusting smile on The World's face.

Unforgivable... this was just Unforgivable...!!! It was one thing killing him and using his body, but to kill his descendants and friends right in front of him? In such a fashion? It was too much, Jonathan doesn't think he might be able to forgive him this time.

His grandson... his son.... and Kakyoin with Hierophant... no, this time his kindness has been dwelled down. He won't forgive him.

Somehow they were fighting in the air when knives embedded themselves into Jotaro’s body.

Useless... so Useless!!!! He can't even protect his great-great-great-grandson!!!

They were free-falling when he felt it.

Vines. Purple vines covered in roses wrapped themselves around them softening the fall. They were warm and gentle; they didn't have any thorns like Hermit but it was undeniable how similar they looked.

"What?!"

Dio was seething, this was the last straw...!!! He would rip out this useless stand if it was the last thing he did!

"The World!!!" Time froze and he didn't hesitate to rip the vines out leading to intense bleeding. He knew that he couldn't completely get rid of them but if he damaged them enough then he could suppress Jonathan's stand.

Time resumed and the fight went on leading to Polnareff appearing out of nowhere and Jotaro punching him in the head.

No, no no no no!!!! This wasn't supposed to happen not like this—!!!

Another punch sent him flying crashing into the streets- wait... this street... wasn't it? Yes, it was!

"Jotaro! Doesn't this street look familiar?" Using the smoke and dust he crawled toward the body of Joseph and plunged his fingers into his chest.

He felt stronger, stronger than ever before, yes! This is what he needed all along!

Jotaro's was going haywire, if he was angry before now he was exploding with rage.

"You bastard!!!"

How dare he, how dare he do that?! Dio!!!! He would never forgive him!

Jonathan was already mid-throw but abruptly stopped.

Under Dio's skin, something moved as if it was trying to get out. Squirming and ripping the same rose vines sprouted, ripping away skin and flesh before wrapping themselves around the vampire who looked stunned.

I won't let you go any further, Dio!

Dio was a fool. If the thought that only The World would get a power-up then he thought wrong.

Mary was heartbroken, she knew she was weak and for that, she would never forgive herself for not doing more in impeding the death of her great-grandson and grandson.

But Mary was smart, there was a reason she was a scholar in her time, and there was a reason why she managed to get high up in the world of archeology.

In the time she was a stand she would eavesdrop on Dio's conversations putting two and two together.

She managed to figure out that she wasn't the only one as a stand, that The world was a soul too (she didn't talk much to him though, she didn't like him and would rather stay away from him as much as possible) so it wasn't farfetched that she managed to figure out other things as well.

But what broke her more was seeing her baby. He might not look as he use to (with the blue and purple skin, galaxy hair that could reach further than the stars, and the little potty mouth kid at his side who had a heart of gold) but a mother was never wrong, she knew those eyes and she knew that kindness anywhere and oh how that broke her heart.

However, she was proud of them, all of them. Seeing how far they went to protect each other and how much they endured she rooted for them in her confines where she planned away.

And now as much as she hated it she would use this strength and do what she couldn't before.

She would give her family a chance to end this once and for all, even if it meant her dying in the process.

Dio was trapped by Jonathan's stand unable to move, his regeneration practically useless with how much damage he was getting and the vines around The World making it impossible for him to use his stand.

And that voice... that echoing voice that was practically nonexistent that rang in his ears, it couldn't be, could it?! Surely not! It couldn't be Jonathan fucking with him all over again?!

"N-no!!!"

Punches met his body hurdling towards a bridge and before he could do much more Star Platinum didn't stop there, he kept fighting until a crack deep enough in The World broke him in half.

Dio died screaming for an answer he would never get.

And Jotaro and Jonathan would be left with more questions than answers but for now, it was over.

It was over and they were the last ones standing.

Hello there! I wanted to share a jjba AU if it's possible, I've been cooking this up for a while and was inspired by many ideas revolving around Jonathan being Star Platinum or specifically— stands, or in better words the Joestars stands where all inhabited by ghost of their family? It's not complete but here's what I got for now:

Stands are the fighting spirit (energy) or the will of a person, and normally it's only just that, but the Joestars are different. When Dio obtained his Stand (while he had a strong will and fighting spirit) it still wasn't really enough or, it wasn't supposed to be, their wasn't really a vessel or a another body to make a stand.

So to accommodate, souls where used, in essence now their a bit... different than in canon. It's confusing I know but please bear with me here.

When Dio obtained his Stand "The World" since he was using Jonathan's body he obtained his aswell, "Passion". I'm still not certain who to make The World but Passion well... their non other than Mary Joestar, who's now a purple vine like stand with flowers.

As for the rest of the Joestars, the first who obtained their stand as far as I remember was Joseph a year before Jotaro.

Joseph was a hard pick since their where many I wanted to be "Hermit purple" but in the end I decided that it would be Jorge Joestar II, basically Joseph's father. And much like Passion, Hermit is a purple thorny vine, but the difference is that they can take a semi-humanoid form (this will have more of an impact later).

Between all the Joestar's, Jotaro was the easiest to decide, I adore the idea of Star being Jonathan! Actually Jonathan being Star inspired me in making Hermit into Jorge.

I love the idea of Holly gaining and keeping her stand. Her stand is very much like her dad's, but instead of purple it's green with berry's and small red flowers, her stand "Guns and Roses" would be non other than Erina Pendolton Joestar!

So here instead of here being killed by her stand maybe it would be something more sinister? Maybe a curse Dio placed on her just because he wanted to taunt them? Maybe Enya would be responsible for it idk :)

I'm a sucker for Au's where Joseph doesn't cheat on Suzie so I made this one just that :D

Here Josuke is a far away relative of the Joestar that came into their lives at an early age, since he isn't technically related to the main bloodline or more accurately Jonathan's bloodline but is still close to the family "Crazy Diamond" isn't really a family member but is at the same time. And who else better to become CD than our beloved oil tycoon Speedwagon?

As for Giorno, Jolyne and Dio's other children I'm completly stumped on them sorry :(

So for a bit more context since this getting a bit too long, I'll get to some scenarios :D

The souls are very much aware of who they are, but not what they are. The last thing they remember is them dying, so when they first wake up in their new bodies we'll... not everything is dandelions and cherries.

For Erina and Speedwagon their death wasn't gruesome at all, infact they both fulfilled their lives. Erina lived a nice life and died surrounded by family so waking up in a house that she has never seen before with vague and blurry vision of people around spooks her a bit, I imagine that she wouldn’t really get to know much at first since right after she manifest she's down for the count.

The same would be for Speedwagon since he's inhabiting CD and at the moment Josuke is still a four year old so he also doesn't understand much until later.

Now for Mary, Jorge and Jonathan, we'll... their not taking it so well.

Mary's last memory literally was of her and her family free falling off a cliff in a carriage with her trying to shield her baby from impending doom. And now she's in this dark room with a blond man, who she has never ever met, with George and Jonathan no where in sight. You can imagine the stress she's in.

Jorge's was gruesome to say the least. Dying by being eaten alive? Horrible. The moment he wakes up you bet that he's thrashing around trying to get out and fight. In his mind he's still the office fighting for his life, he need to get back to his family. To mother and uncle Speedwagon, to his Elizabeth and his new born son that was just born practically just a few days ago! He needed to fight back, he needed to! And once he regains a sence of control he discovers that he's no longer in the generals room, it's no longer night time. He's in an office, foreign to him, and right infront of him was an elderly man with a few scrapes and bruises, and on closer inspection he looked like his father (he remembered the only picture his mother had of his father) if he ever grew to be that old, just where the hell was he?

Jonathan's death was as gruesome as Jorge's if not worse. He just got married, was at his honeymoon and then Dio just had to appear and ruin everything. Now the ship was burning, he has no knowledge if Erina managed to escape with the baby or if she's still trapped in the sea of flames. To say the least this man was on flight or fight mode. When he "wakes up" he's greated by the sight of a fight, but in his mind their zombies and oh god is he tired and horrified. His fist connects with the face of one of them, he cries out before sending a barrage of punches to the zombies before him. When he comes back too, he only sees beaten up teenagers with strange clothes, he's on the side walk in the sun (the sun oh god he's missed the sun) and a terrified kid behind him. Just what has he done?

On a lighter note stands can communicate with each other so when Avdol arrives and sees the mess in Mr. Joestars office it's Magician Red who explains and comforts Jorge. In the span of a year it's good to say that him and MR became good friends.

I have more ideas but that's it for now, as I said before it's work in progress but I would love to hear your thoughts on this Au! I don't have a name for it tho... but either way I'm an open minded person and don't mind the constructive criticism or incorporating more ideas into this AU.

but then as things become clear, he notices a strange old man talking to him in soothing tones, his clothes torn and shredded and a few beads of blood on his skin like he tried fighting a thorn bush and lost

also, I know you said that it was only really the Josestars who were haunted but....... I had a really angsty idea for Dio

what if The World is Dario

neither he nor Dio know what the fuck is going on, nor does Dio ever figure out his Stand's identity. As much freedom as sentient Stands have, Dio clamps down hard on his control and leaves almost no room for Dario to do anything

Hi! Here's some stuff about a celebrity-themed AU I've been formulating in my head since last year. I'll probs post more later when I'm less sleep deprived :')) I do have major ideas though, so hope you like 'em!

☆ passione is a modelling agency/magazine ran entirely by diavolo. it's one of the most famous companies in the world, and also one of the more relaxed ones. technically diavolo's twin brother doppio and doppio's now wife donatella helped form it, but they all agreed it'd be easier for diavolo to head it. doppio works as a photographer there, while donatella is a model.

☆ the joestars are essentially the hilton family of this au. most people know their names because they're famous in their own fields outside of the family. for instance, jonathan is an archeologist, dio (who is now a biological joestar) is a lawyer/agent/manager, jotaro is a marine biologist with several documentaries under his belt, and so on.

☆ if the joestars are the hiltons, then the part 8 higashikatas are the kardashians. they have their own reality TV show chronicling their lives, known by all as keeping up with the higashikatas. some major specials were jobin and mitsuba's wedding, the twins' (rina and joshu) sweet sixteens and later daiya's, kaato being released from prison, and hato's explosive break-up with tamaki damo.

☆ elizabeth is still married to george ii/jorge joestar, and she has her own fashion house known as lisa lisa. working under her are caesar zeppeli and suzi q, who both have their own ideas on which direction the brand's image should go. their rival is kars and the other pillar men's own label. (unnamed as of right now)

☆ diego is jonathan and dio's younger stepbrother through his mother marrying their father when diego was a kid. diego had always been closer with jonathan, while he always had a tense relationship with dio. as an adult, diego is a professional driver and looks after his nephews; dio's own sons.

☆ jolyne has an underground band with ermes and f.f. called the stone frees! they perform at a grungy venue known as green dolphin, named for its famous neon green dolphin sign. outside of performing, they're usually seen hanging out in ermes' sister gloria's restaurant. they tend to give it free publicity where they can.

jolyne also goes by cujoh in an attempt to distance herself from her father, and to prevent herself from being accused of nepotism.

☆ johnny was a former movie star who quit performing after a major accident rendered him unable to walk. his father hired a physical therapist for him named gyro zeppeli, and barred him from any other visitors out of a sense of shame. however, johnny's older brother nicholas tends to allow guests to see him anyway when their father's away. johnny also keeps in contact with rina higashikata, but that's a secret!

☆ josuke (no relation to the part 8 higashikatas) is an aspiring hairdresser/celebrity stylist, and he often asks to practice on other people. he religiously reads the cinderella magazine for tips and ideas on what to do next and his idol is aya tsuji, who he dreams of working alongside someday.

☆ gappy is yoshikage and kei's younger brother. he's not technically a celebrity, but he often shows up on kuwth due to being childhood friends with joshu and rina. people often joke about him being their missing triplet, though he always denies it. he does see the higashikatas as a second family, however.

☆ giorno is a model under passione, which he joined beneath his father's nose at both diego and his best friend perla's suggestion. when dio found out, he demanded for giorno to allow him to be his agent due to his superior connection. refusing, giorno instead left to live with diego whilst bruno bucciarati became his agent instead. the two people who oversaw giorno's casting were man x (will be referred to as michel) and polpo.

☆ after giorno left, dio began to acknowledge his other three sons; donatello, ungalo, and rikiel. he began with taking custody of donatello, and pushed him into joining a modelling agency as well. he manufactured a rivalry between donatello and giorno, though giorno's more interested in saving all his brothers from their father's influence than anything.

☆ jodio and dragona are both popular on social media. dragona enjoys posting ootds, makeup tutorials, and storytimes, whilst jodio does (awful) skateboarding tricks and skits. sometimes he'll join dragona's storytimes and makeup tutorials, or they'll both do various challenges and skits together.

Made an AU where the Joestars are a family so decided to make a family tree, went a bit over board,

so here is how it started I added in a couple people at the top for connections sake, (note that the first Jorge is only called that to avoid a fourth George being on this forsaken tree.)

Jotaro's side looks pretty normal, I kept Kakyoin has Jota's Godfather, though they have no biological relation here, also Anasui and Jolyne are only dating, but I wanted to put most people on the tree. Name changes for this branch are giving adult Holly her self chosen japanese name, and making up a name for Jolyne's Mom. I think it would be funny if her maiden name is Cujoh so Joylne is doing the name thing to say she likes her Mom more. (also Araki stated he meant for his name to be Tenmei and his editor misread the kanji so yeah.)

To make Johnny here I made George be living a double life, the idea is the would find out after George dies in the new version of phantom blood, everyone manages to come together as one family in the end even if Johnny feels weird about him and Jonathan sharing a name.

(note Straizo is also here, and is a vampire but I am not taking an image just for him.) Erina's Father is only named in the musical, and her mother not at all but I think it fits. Also Speedwagon was like for real a father figure to both George II and Joseph so yeah Godfather Speedwagon.

Deigo is on here, the Johns accept him as another brother in the shit dads squad (Jonathan, Johnny and Dio). Diego earns the screenshot.

The Pucci side of Dio's polycule I decided to make Foo a sentient stand who Pucci split off of their user, and whom Weather adopted, Weather is a teacher at Green Dolphin school in Florida, I also made Green Baby more of a person so his name is Gabby. Dio was a bisexual disaster in his youth after turning into a vampire so when he found out about Giorno he went on a bit of baby hunting quest with Vanilla.

Dio is quite friendly to Bruno and Leone, though he hates Diavolo with a passion.

Now for Joseph, not to much to say here other than that Suzy and Tomoko after overcoming the initial feeling of betrayal have now settled into a happy if sometimes strained polyamory, also Wammu is his ex-fiance but the two are now on good terms. Oh also Speedwagon part 2 is now separate from Speedwagon part 1

I added Strohiem as Santana's foster parent for the funny.

I made Tomoko siblings with Norisuke Iv and Rina from parts 7 and 8, to better tie the families together, which means that Josuke and George III are cousins through their mothers and second cousins via their fathers.

Also Josuke and Josuke are legally cousins via adoption which is neat.( I named Mitsuba's unamed baby Loacaca has a placeholder not for real) honestly nothing major changed over here.

The other Kujos are unremarkable, the Kiras though? they relate back to the orginal Joestar family through Holly, plus I added Yoshikage part 4 to the mix of Kira siblings, though he is renamed Kosaku, since otherwise he shares a name with a sibling. In the AU he is currently in jail while his loving wife delivers him food and company. He likes the routine of the prison system, and Hayato fucking hates him for winning Shinobu over. Jojolands live-blogging let’s goooooooo

1st impressions under the cut:

Jodio is such a wild name especially considering there’s a Spanish meaning (look it up lol). It makes me think of the Jorge Joestar novel where it says that Erina spelled George II’s name as “Jorge” to keep the “Jo” and it’s like ah yes, it’ll play out how you think in the Spanish-speaking Canary Islands.

Jodio’s narration makes him sound like an actual 15-year-old, and there’s something a bit charming about that. He goofs around and wants to become rich, but he also follows other people’s orders and definitely is flying by his pants as he goes through this process. Araki did a great job establishing Jodio through his narrative voice, stuff like, This may sound like bullshit” and his tangent admiring Meryl’s designs.

There’s definitely the “Giorno” connections (Giorno was the child of both Jonathan and Dio and Jodio is like combining “Jonathan” and “Dio” as names, both are 15 in their stories and have jobs connected with crime, and both of them have clear ambitions). Both of them definitely are observant and can read people very well. However, unlike Giorno, Jodio is not a smooth criminal. He reacts with violence first as opposed to trying to charm his way out of situations. Jodio’s been a low-level grunt for gangs since he was a child, rather than Giorno being a solo petty thief who, once completing initiation, dethrones the Boss and takes charge in like a week.

Another notable thing in this story is that Jodio is a Jojo who comes with a sibling, an older sibling at that. Jodio is definitely protective of Dragona, and also defers to their choices, and listens when Dragona begs Jodio to hold back. I love their rapport, it definitely feels like accurate sibling energy. They crime together, goof off with each other, both of them protect their mother and each other. I love how Dragona was begging for the police to leave Jodio alone because he’s a kid, a minor, and that Dragona holds Jodio back from going too far when beating up the cops who’d assaulted them. I also love how Jodio saw what was going on with Dragona and went “aight time for violence” immediately.

Definitely a new dynamic for the Jojo and JoBro, and also a refreshing take on Jojo sibling dynamics. Jonathan and Dio was about the worst way siblings could go (understatement), and Josuke and Joshu plus the other Higashikata children had a rocky dynamic given that…well, the amnesiac teenager being adopted into the family is a lot to get used to, so in some ways Jojolion was in part the Higashikatas learning how to accept Josuke and give him the family he needs. Johnny and Nicholas seemed to have a positive relationship, but of course that ended with tragedy given Nicholas’ passing.

Regarding the discourse over Dragona’s pronouns, I admit, as someone who is cis, I don’t feel I have a right to comment on this detail beyond that this is only the first chapter, and we don’t know how Araki will handle it for the rest of the run. Given that Araki is a cis Japanese man in his 60s, and that his writing and portrayals of other marginalized folks doesn’t have the best track record (Part 2 the anime had to cut out some rather unsavory caricatures of Mexicans, and Part 3 tended to play into uhh questionable “exotic land” stereotypes especially along Southeast Asia), I wouldn’t recommend getting one’s hopes up for the most stellar execution of representation for Dragona here. I will definitely say that no matter what happens with Dragona, it’s a Your Mileage May Vary situation, but beyond that, I’ll leave that to people who know more and have lived experience when it comes to talking about Dragona’s gender identity.

Meryl is the tallest Jojo character now after the Pillar Men and that is amazing also, yeah, how many hustles does she have? The fact that she’s a school principal as well as a small business owner as well as a crime boss (not sure how big her gang is though). I’m sure there’s a joke about the US educational system in here somewhere lol.

There’s several references to our time, like Dua Lipa, Uber, and Covid. We can assume that means this takes place past 2020, most likely around 2022-2023 since no one is wearing masks, but Dragona doesn’t like the officer getting that close and cites social distancing as a reason—notably, the officer is shown as Asian since he asks “do you not want me to get close to you because of my race?” which also references the spike of hate crimes against Asians during the height of the pandemic. There’s also a bit of a meta mark of the times given how Araki went ACAB in the first 5 pages of chapter 1.

This part’s theme seems to be focusing on a new concept called “Mechanisms”. As far as I can understand about how it works given what we have so far about it, it seems to be something to do with “social systems.” Jodio built a social system of “trust” through being a good Gofer for the gang he works for, while the classmate he compares himself to is bullied because he doesn’t have a system like that for the school. Even though the unnamed student is larger, maybe smarter, and presumably wealthier, he’s singled out for bullying because he doesn’t have a good “mechanism” and will be due to leave the school soon. We’ll have to see how this plays out in the coming chapters…

The jewel in the heist will not be how Jodio gets rich, or else, perhaps it will prove more trouble than it’s worth. I say that based on nothing. Araki might pull a different trope regarding this jewel, but I doubt he’d make this into a Maguffin for very long.
