I read through all of Elias/Jonah's dialogue (as you do) plus some relistening and mentions of him, so here's a big list of some fun things and behaviors I noted!

I thought he made a lot of eye puns/jokes, but he only does it once in mag161, however he does enjoy making jokes. "Creativity never was their forte." from mag80, "You want my account? My sworn testimony? My statement?" from 82, "If you die, I’m afraid you probably won’t be able to claim your expenses." in 116 and "I only have two eyes, after all." in 120. no one ever laughs at his jokes only he finds them amusing

His last words telling Jon a sarcastic or mocking "good luck" are mirrored earlier as he also tells Basira good luck the last time he sees her, and Martin, as he's getting arrested

He loves gloating. "I forget how new you all are to this." from mag92, "Coffee is not as good for disguising tastes as you might think." in 98, "She’s hoping that even if I see it coming she’ll still be able to overpower me. She’s wrong, of course," in 102, "A masterpiece, isn’t it?" abt his panopticon in 158 and of course his whole monologue in 160

He does his budgeting on tuesdays and his scheduling on wednesdays

He also likes getting lost in work

in mag40 he makes up proper incompetency (said he didnt know how the fire system works, while he later admits he was actively waiting) just that once, but more so he acts like he doesnt get the full picture (doesnt know whats in the tunnels, whats strange about the institute) or acts too late and apologises (not stepping into jon's stalking behaviour). Which makes me think he is quite fine letting people think less of him but unless he has something to hide hes not actively looking to give the impression

in mag92 elias slides the papers for basira across his desk, but you don't hear him take them out before, meaning he prepared and got ready for this before he called the police

in general he's a very preparing man, Lukas steps in when Elias is arrested so has has control over who'd run it. in mag118 he says he prepared something to hurt martin (my speculation is that he likely has some trauma that could hurt you prepared for any person that could cross him, just in case he needs it). When he gets arrested he has something prepared so he doesnt get killed and ofc s1-4 is preparing Jon for his grand ritual

Elias admits the idea for his ritual kinda fell into place after Getrude didnt do anything about the people's church in march 2015. He shot Getrude and appointed Jon shortly after so "when you came to me already marked by the Web, I knew it had to be you." is pure dramatics as Jon was hired 4 years prior

also he got his ritual in 2018 so he managed to acomplish his life's goal in only 3 years, love his grindset 🔥

We never get a number for how many people Elias has killed in his ritual, the real life millbank has held over 1000 people at once, but id imagine his one panopticon held less than a whole complex

its really interesting to me in mag92 that hes SO sure they all know he's talking to them of his own free will. is he just that dead set on being in control or making sure they take no credit for his confession

there is a clock in Elias' office (but it's only heard in mag98)

He has killed people but Elias is very much not a blood thirsty person. Getrude and Peter are both surprised when he results to that. He's very much just ruthless and does not care, if to get his way he has to kill someone. It doesnt seem like he's ever happy to do so, maybe this is a quirk of being eye aligned and getting rid of any type of knowledge is painful (he does for example never want Tim to die at the Unknowing), or he just finds covering those murders up a hassle

for the Unknowing Elias books them all hotel rooms, how thoughtful

something cute to me that Jon was too good at the Eye that Elias couldnt meet him face to face post coma

In mag158 he implies that even Institute employees not in the archives are tied to it, at least enough that they could suffer or die if it burned down

between finding other people just as tools to watch and discard and saying empathy holds you back he was definitely a very very lonely man

He is a very breathy person. He sounds breathy when he talks. He takes deep breaths to ready himself and before he uses his powers. And he often breathes through his nose before speaking or during pauses

He has said Jon's name 62 times, only twice calling him "Jonathan" and called him archivist 25 times (24 in the mag120 statement, 1 in mag138 and 1 in mag161)(he also kinda calls him The Archive in 160)

other fun amount of words: know (65 times), see (42), martin (35), detective (20), eyes (20) and eye (9), afraid (9) and "bullshit" (1)

its still insane to me they added all of those sound effects of Elias' cuffs in prison, thats something fun to appreciate. It also means its canon he gestures quite a bit!

Printer issues

Chapter 1

(A conversation between Sasha and Micheal before the siege of Jane Prentiss)

Sasha stared as the printer sputtered and grunted. A pause, another sound before silence. She grumbled and hit the roof of the printer a second time. Nothing. A small mechanical shutter and then nothing. Sasha let out an exasperated sigh and sat back. It was unbelievable that she could hack into anything Jon asked her to, but she was thwarted by a damn printer. She considered bugging Elias about it but she wasn't in the mood to deal with him. If she wanted the details to the statement printed, she'd have to use the printer at the desk to artifact storage.

Just lovely.

Sasha dragged her hands through her hair as she made her way to the other end of the Institute. She didn't have to pretend she enjoyed the place. It wasn't... Natural. She had figured out that much. And not just because of the worm infestation gathering outside the walls of the Institute. She had felt it before as well. She sensed it when they had followed up on statements only to find the person dead or missed. She had noticed it when at her desk and it felt like a thousand eyes staring daggers into the back of her head. And she noticed it now as she sat behind the Artifact storage reception desk and logged in, praying desperately that the printer would connect and behave in a timely manner.

The printer made a small wine and a short compliant huff before a paper started feeding through. Sasha dared to breathe. The paper pushed its way through and the printer made a delighted chime. She frowned. The printer paper, which should have printed out an information sheet about a drug company in relation to a health crisis, was instead a mess of colors and patterns, Sasha found it was hard to look at after a while.

Just. Bloody. Lovely.

She didn't have time to think before laughter ricocheted off of the wall and shattered through her mind. Micheal. Lord, she really needed to get paid more.

Sasha forced herself to at least try and stay calm.

"Hello again, Archivist Assistant, what leads you down here to such a place?"

She eye'd him carefully. The last interaction had left her compromised and almost dead in a graveyard and while she was safely within the Institute, she doubted that would actually be a genuine factor against him.

"The printer wasn't working." She answered rather dumbly.

He giggled and walked forward, picking up the headache of colors splattered over the paper and looking it over. "It doesn't seem broken to me." He laughed again and she felt it in her bones.

She shook her head and swallowed. "No- not this one, the one upstairs."

"Ah yes, well that one has never seemed to work." He giggled again and she managed a small frown.

What would he know about the institute's printer? She thought it was best not to ask. Instead she carefully moved towards the computer and gestured at the screen. "That's why I'm opting to use this one."

"You should try again then." His hair washed over his jaw and his shoulder as he tipped his head. His grin spreading further than the confines of his face.

Right. Sasha clicked print and watched the printer go through the motions of odd sounds before spitting out yet another distorted array of colors and shapes. Maybe she'd just be better off telling Jon he wasn't getting a paper version. Surely she could just email the details to him?

Micheal's laughter reverberated through the room as he leaned against the counter, holding his face in too long fingers.

"My, my, Assistant, whatever are you printing?"

Sasha let out a half hearted chuckle. It was too late into the day to have to deal with this. She ignored his question. "Yeah, obviously this isn't working."

"Giving up already? Oh Assistant, come on, give it another try." His smile was all teeth.

"It's Sasha." She said, rubbing her forehead.

"The printer has a name?"

"No, Micheal, my name. My name is Sasha."

He laughed again, his form spreading out like smoke before reflecting colors like glass, just transparent enough to see through whilst also noticing your reflection.

"So you say, will you try again?"

"Yes cause I'm sure it'll work better than the first two times."

"Sasha?"

She snapped her head in the direction of the voice, seeing Sally walking towards her with a concerned expression and carrying a stack of books.

"Who are you talking to?"

Sasha turned back to where Micheal was standing, except Micheal was gone and the door he had come from no longer seemed to exist. Of course.

"Oh um, no one, just talking to myself."

Sally didn't press the matter, instead disappearing down an adjacent hall. Sasha scowled and tried pressing print again, almost crying with relief as the document finally printed. Sasha quickly grabbed it and went to walk away before glancing back at the tray. Back at the two distorted pages. She grabbed those as well, folding them up and tucking them into her purse.

"Thank you, Sasha, I'll have Martin look into the drug company's representative tomorrow."

"Great, just don't ask me to print out anything in the future, I've had quite enough to last me for a while."

Jon gave her a quizzical expression and Sasha let out a belated sigh.

"Nevermind, I'm headed home. Don't forget to feed yourself, Jon."

He muttered some backhanded response and she headed for home.

Sasha tossed her purse on the kitchen counter and started brewing a cup of tea. She spent most of the evening getting out of work mode and into comfier attire. Finally pulling out the distorted papers from her bag and looking them over. The colors were...pretty. For lack of a better word. Oddly distracting, mildly disorienting, but pretty nonetheless. She hummed and taped them to her fridge. A bit of eye-catching decoration never hurt anyone.

Thatcher: Would be crying silent tears towards the end. He'd be looking back on his life and wouldn't feel too satisfied with it, feeling he wasted 17 years running. Would be thinking about how so many citizens in Mandela will be forgotten because theres hardly anyone left to remember. On the flip side, the experience might finally make him realize he needs to move on. Will try to live out Ruth's memory

Dave: Y'all remember Wendigoon listening to the album, and how you could watch his usually cheery personality slowing peeling away the longer he listened? Same difference. Might crack a couple of jokes through out, but would accept that the album displays the terrifying reality of a very common illness. He'd be going through the same existential crisis as Thatcher, realizing so many people will be forgotten because so many are dead/dying

Ruth: Like Thatcher and Dave, relating the album to their painful reality of people dying at every turn, countless people forgotten and (literally) a thousand more on their way. Forgetting more and more what the past/pre-invasion was like as you succumb to the new reality. Etc. (In a world where she's already heard about it, I'd like to think she'd get playfully competitive with Thatcher to see which one of them would last the longest, but as the music progresses, finishing the album wouldn't be as worth it).

Adam: Would get bored though out, very little effect on him. Though in hindsight, the album might be a good model of him losing his humanity (though he doesn't know that yet). TBH, he'd be the one introducing it to others first.

Jonah: Would get bored, can't finish it in one sitting. But curiosity would make him. Making jokes to lighten the mood throughout, but will be crying by the end.

Eve: Little reaction. Takes breaks throughout and comes back due to curiosity. Would also be crying silent tears towards the end.

Sarah: Wouldn't finish it. You cannot force her to. She's clocking out by stage 3-4

Mark: Wouldn't be able to finsih it, he'd have a panic attack/mental breakdown/etc during it and will quit. Absolutely HATES stage 5

Autism is in fact real. While the symptoms are things that most people experience to a degree, the difference between the average person and someone who is autistic is the level at which they experience these things. While most people can miss social cues, a person with autism may miss them even when they are being specifically pointed out. Everyone feels discomfort at unpleasant stimuli, but someone with autism is far more likely to become incapacitated by such situations. The diagnosis is not 'illegitimate' as you put it. Though it also does not mean there is something wrong with someone, or that they are inherently different from people as a whole, it is simply something to be aware of to make ways of coping with certain problems and sensitivities easier.

well jacob anderson is very beautiful tbf. idk how much of it is falling for a pretty face so much as it its ppl unwilling to confront the power dynamics inherent to the ~bond~ between a progenitor and his creation or discomfitted by it. they want lestat to have been wronged by louis in some notion of ‘mutual abuse’, or for some other fictional man to have secretly been ‘enduring’ or ‘lorded over’ by louis… bc they cant empathize or be bothered with claudia a fictional black woman trapped in the misery of eternal adolescence bc louis wanted a family, they cant be bothered w the fact we’re introduced to louis as an enterprise of pimping… the fact that louis the fictional character in the church confession scene was more real about that than real people analyzing said fictional character is mindboggling. they rly think s1 is louis’s ‘hero’ ‘good guy’ narrative when he already looks very morally complex these 6-7 eps alone. i cant come to no other conclusion than it seems like a lot of ppl dont actually see pimping as a evil in the real world. which is why they hyperanalyze certain scenes/dynamics to no benefit of their own, creating a bunch of nonsense out of what [i think] makes sense on screen.

[Opening narration]

Hi, my name's Jon. Im a 7th grader, and kind of the smartest kid at school. Not that my bullies, Daisy and Basira, see me the same way, or let me have a day of peace, but genius is always underappreciated in its time.

[Scenes of him at school and Daisy and Basira being mean to him, knocking his books out of his hands, tripping him, etc. He has gigantic glasses and braces.]

I live with my older brother, Jonah, who is sooo annoying. All he does is play his keytar, modify his moterbike, hang out with his boYFrIeNd, and make fun of me for being smarter than him. Hes definitely moms favorite, which is totally not fair.

Okayyy magnus archives theory/hc time- prepare for some rambling about an idea that came to me 10 minutes ago:

tl;dr The reason The Eye preferred john to magnus isnt because john performed the watchers crown, its because john "loves" the Eye more than magnus.

So,

Something i noticed while listening is that all the avatars in tma fall somewhere on a spectrum between "naturally formed" avatars and "deal with the devil" avatars.

The deal with the devil ones learned about one or more of the fears, and started feeding them until they gained avatar status. Maxwell rayner opened a cult that saw fearing dark as worshiping, jonah created the institute ect. Most of smyrk's students fall under that category.

Now the second kind are the naturally formed ones; in ep 200 the statement reads "and some minds did mot simply recoil from them ... Some seemed to court them, to court them, to hunger in return ... Minds that saw the faces of things that were fear and were compelled as much as they were repulsed.". Some minds just naturally call for the fears, compelled by them. Jane prentiss talked about her love for the flesh hive in her statement. Simon fairchild talked about how he finds the concept of being small in the universe calming. All peter lukas ever wanted in his life was to be alone. These people didnt come to the fears, they (for lack of a better word) Vibed with the fears so strongly that the fears came to them to make them avatars. They loved what others would fear.

Now. Magnus and john.

The Eye, at its core, is the fear of being known, and all your secrets being exposed. And that something that jonah magnus CLEARLY didnt vibe with. We didnt discover his identity untill the end of season 4, all he did the whole series is keep secrets and lie to people. He enjoyed the benefits of being an avatar of The Eye but he feared it, as much as the people he tortured.

Now Johnathan sims on the other hand. Johnathan "i dont want to be another goddamn mystery" sims. The one who documented everything he did with the intent of other people discovering it, who became more and more open about himself, his feelings and his secrets as his venture into avatarhood progressed. The one who, after being ignored by his parent figure in his childhood, just wanted to be cared for, acknowledged, SEEN. While john very much started the series as a deal with the devil avatar, he did love The Eye, whether he realised that or not. And the Eye loved him back, and chose him when the moment arrived.
