(In the books Jon and Tycho actually do meet when Tycho arrives at Castle Black to speak with Stannis about the crown’s debt but I’m assuming you’re talking show!canon which is a completely different kettle of fish, Nonnie, and I’m certainly up for the challenge. Hope you enjoy.)The War With the Dead and the War of Thrones, as they would come to be known in the dusty books the Septons, and Sam, would write, had been ended for nearly two years when Jon Snow, King in the North, ally of Queen Daenerys Targaryen, accepted a mission from the Dragon Queen to sail to Braavos, to speak with Tycho Nestoris of the Iron Bank concerning the debt owed to them by the crown of Westeros.Jon sailed from White Harbor, with only a handful of men, his sister Arya among them, to the Free City of Braavos, taking with him a large chest of gold seized from House Lannister and its wartime allies to, as Lord Tyrion put it, pay the money hungry bankers off before they did something foolish. Like send an assassin or a very skilled sellsword to collect the debt.Braavos, he found, was everything Arya had proclaimed and more. Far grander than any city Jon had seen, including King’s Landing and, strangely, it stank far less than the capital of Westeros.Arya disappeared the morning Jon was set to meet with Tycho, claiming she was going to see an old friend during her time in Braavos, and Jon did not question her. He had learned, years ago, that Arya had changed in her time away from their family and it was best to let her have her secrets.So, he and his men, along with the large chest of gold, were escorted by one of Tycho’s servants to meet with the man.

Tycho was not at all what Jon had been expecting.The man was tall and thin, with a thick dark beard speckled with hints of grey and silver and wore the finest looking robes of purple and silver. He held himself like a Lord and, the war hardened King thought, given his position with the Iron Bank it was likely a very similar role that Tycho played.Tycho smiled politely as he stood to greet Jon, his Common Tongue nearly flawless, save for the barest hint of accent.“Welcome, Your Majesty,” the man said, sweeping around the table. “I am Tycho Nestoris. I have the honor of, on behalf of the Iron Bank, welcoming you to Braavos.”Jon bowed his head respectfully.“Thank you, Lord Tycho,” he said. “I have come, as I wrote to you in my letter, to bring the largest sum of payment for the debt owed to you and the Iron Bank by the Iron Throne of Westeros. Queen Daenerys sends her regrets that she could not come herself but matters with her kingdom are…” Jon cleared his throat. “Still too tense for her to risk such a voyage.”Tycho nodded and snapped his fingers, servants stepping forward to fetch the chest, taking it away to, very likely, be counted.“We appreciate Queen Daenerys promptness with this matter and we understand her situation must be delicately handled,” Tycho said, gesturing towards the nearby chairs at the table and Jon joined him in sitting. “I must express my curiosity that she would send you, the King of the North as her representative.”“Queen Daenerys and I share a mutual respect and friendship,” Jon explained. “We fought together in the wars, through the worst two years of winter Westeros has seen in generations. We are allies and when she asked I answered.”Tycho smiled. A gentle look on this narrow face and Jon had to admit that his heart beat a little faster. Tycho was older, certainly, perhaps of an age with Ser Jaime, who served as one of Jon’s Kingsguard, but he was still, in his own way, a handsome man.“Rumors spread quickly, King Jon,” Tycho said. “Rumors of your shared…kinship…with the Targaryen Queen.”Jon huffed. Of course worse had spread even to Essos of that.“I am her nephew if that is what you mean,” he confirmed, seeing no sense denying the truth. Not now. Not when he still held the North and Daenerys had the throne he had promised to help her claim. “But I’ve no ambition for the Iron Throne. No desire for it. I do well to protect and care for the people of the North. That is my duty. My honor.”“It is said you were chosen to be King of the North,” Tycho commented and Jon nodded.“I was.” Jon could still hear Lyanna Mormont declaring he was her King from that day until his last day. “The people trusted me to lead them. To rule them. I will do all I must to ensure I am worthy of their trust.”Tycho hummed thoughtfully and leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table, hands folded neatly together.“I must say,” the man said, still smiling gently. “I can’t say that I’ve ever met a man quite like you, Your Majesty.”Jon couldn’t help but smile. Tycho was not the first man to say something like that to him but, he found, there was something about Tycho that made it nice to hear.“And I have never met a man like you, Lord Tycho,” he replied. “But then, I’ve never been beyond Westeros before.”Tycho seemed to perk at that.“This is truly your first visit to Braavos? To Essos?”Jon nodded.“It is.”Tycho’s smile widened.“Then I must insist on hosting you for dinner tonight at my estate,” the man said. “To give you a proper chance to experience Braavosi hospitality and culture.”Even though Jon knew he could have refused, his title of King granting him so much more leeway than he had ever before possessed, he knew he wouldn’t. He did not want to. Something about Tycho intrigued him. Called to him. And, if the way Tycho looked at him was anything to go by, it seemed Tycho felt the same.Jon smiled and nodded.“Thank you, Lord Tycho, I think I would enjoy that greatly.”“It’s decided them,” Tycho said, reaching across the table, taking one of Jon’s hands, raising it and brushing the faintest kiss to the backs of the young King’s knuckles. “I will send one of my servants to escort you tonight.”Jon nodded, slowly standing, knowing Tycho would have more business to attend to.“Until tonight, Lord Tycho,” he said and Tycho nodded.“Until tonight, Your Majesty.”Jon bowed his head respectfully again before taking his leave, feeling surprisingly giddy in a way he had not felt in years.

What's interesting about Jon and Arya's relationship isn't just they are each other's favourite sibling - they are one another's favourite person. This is why Jon thinks of her with just about everyone, has a specific type that she is a reference to (as was confirmed by George):

It's a reference to a certain physical type, and a certain indication of what Jon finds admirable.

Jon, also, misses her more than Robb, his best friend and constant companion:

He missed his true brothers: little Rickon, bright eyes shining as he begged for a sweet; Robb, his rival and best friend and constant companion; Bran, stubborn and curious, always wanting to follow and join in whatever Jon and Robb were doing. He missed the girls too, even Sansa, who never called him anything but "my half brother" since she was old enough to understand what bastard meant. And Arya…he missed her even more than Robb, skinny little thing that she was, all scraped knees and tangled hair and torn clothes, so fierce and willful. Arya never seemed to fit, no more than he had…yet she could always make Jon smile. He would give anything to be with her now, to muss up her hair once more and watch her make a face, to hear her finish a sentence with him. (Jon III, AGoT)

It hits me how Jon's thoughts about Arya alone take up half of the passage!

Jon, on the way to Castle Black:

The memory of her laughter warmed him on the long ride north. (Jon II, AGoT)

Arya does the same thing, being reminded of Jon in other people:

"NO!" Arya and Gendry both said, at the exact same instant. Hot Pie quailed a little. Arya gave Gendry a sideways look. He said it with me, like Jon used to do, back in Winterfell. She missed Jon Snow the most of all her brothers. (Arya I, ASoS)

And with the Ghost of High Heart:

Ned, Gendry, and many of the others were fast asleep when Arya spied the small pale shape creeping behind the horses, thin white hair flying wild as she leaned upon a gnarled cane. The woman could not have been more than three feet tall. The firelight made her eyes gleam as red as the eyes of Jon's wolf. He was a ghost too. Arya stole closer, and knelt to watch. (Arya VIII, ASoS)

Despite not interacting since the very beginning of AGoT, the two of them have interconnected narratives, to boot. Arya interacting with Yoren, being dressed up as a boy to join the Night's Watch, her desperation to get to Jon and desire to go to the Wall to be with him is mentioned repeatedly throughout the whole of the series.

This is just one example:

But that was stupid. Her home was gone, her parents dead, and all her brothers slain but Jon Snow on the Wall. That was where she had wanted to go. She told the captain as much, but even the iron coin did not sway him. Arya never seemed to find the places she set out to reach. (Arya I, AFfC)

Despite Arya being a continent away from Jon, George still has her interact with members of the Night's Watch (with Dareon, and defending Sam). And for Jon, George has him settling on a loan with Tycho Nestoris of the Iron Bank, which is connected to the Faceless Men. Arya already has a hand in the Iron Bank's politics - in the form of her ruining their negotiations with the Lannisters in the Mercy chapter.

She is so steadfast in Jon's love for her that she thinks:

"I know where we could go," Arya said. She still had one brother left. Jon will want me, even if no one else does. He'll call me "little sister" and muss my hair. It was a long way, though, and she didn't think she could get there by herself. She hadn't even been able to reach Riverrun. "We could go to the Wall." (Arya XII, ASoS)

He is among those she imagines walking alongside her to quell her fear:

Alone, she slid through the shadow of the Tower of Ghosts. She walked fast, to keep ahead of her fear, and it felt as though Syrio Forel walked beside her, and Yoren, and Jaqen H'ghar, and Jon Snow. (Arya X, ACoK)

How far are you willing to go to prove your love?

They both have relatively shaky vows to their respective institutions because of one another. Arya stows away Needle, a representation of her family but also specifically referred to as Jon Snow's smile in the HoBaW. She will give up every other thing but that. And because of this anchor - which includes Nymeria and her wolf dreams, but especially Needle and, by association, Jon - is what prevents her from becoming No One completely.

The marriage letter Ramsay sends to Jon is what well and truly tests Jon's vows - and it's what caused the intense anguish that culminates in his death in ADwD.

Jon loves her so dearly that she is his heart:

"The heart is all that matters. Do not despair, Lord Snow. Despair is a weapon of the enemy, whose name may not be spoken. Your sister is not lost to you."

"I have no sister." The words were knives. What do you know of my heart, priestess? What do you know of my sister?

Melisandre seemed amused. "What is her name, this little sister that you do not have?"

"Arya." His voice was hoarse. "My half-sister, truly..." (Jon VI, ADwD)

And that Winterfell, where she supposedly "is," is not her home, her true home is with him:

Bring her home, Mance. I saved your son from Melisandre, and now I am about to save four thousand of your free folk. You owe me this one little girl. (Jon XI, ADwD)

Arya feels a huge amount of shame when Needle is taken from her:

They talked over her as she lay hurting, but Arya could not seem to understand the words. Her ears rang. When she tried to crawl off, the earth moved beneath her. They took Needle. The shame of that hurt worse than the pain, and the pain hurt a lot. Jon had given her that sword. Syrio had taught her to use it. (Arya V, ACoK)

And she gets particularly upset when accused of having stolen Needle:

"I did not!" she shouted. Jon Snow had given her Needle. Maybe she had to let them call her Lumpyhead, but she wasn't going to let them call Jon a thief. (Arya I, ACoK)

Call me whatever you want, just don't call Jon a thief.

There is a bit of irony in this, since Jon is accused by Ramsay in ADwD of sending Mance south in order to steal Arya.

Your false king's friends are dead. Their heads upon the walls of Winterfell. Come see them, bastard. Your false king lied, and so did you. You told the world you burned the King-Beyond-the-Wall. Instead you sent him to Winterfell to steal my bride from me. (Jon XIII, ADwD)

She has a very deep-rooted sense of justice and loyalty, but she wouldn't even tell her own father - who she loved enough to bypass snakes and lizard-lions and pools of quicksand to retrieve some flowers for, mind you - who gifted her the sword.

Lord Eddard Stark sighed. "My nine-year-old daughter is being armed from my own forge, and I know nothing of it. The Hand of the King is expected to rule the Seven Kingdoms, yet it seems I cannot even rule my own household. How is it that you come to own a sword, Arya? Where did you get this?"

Arya chewed her lip and said nothing. She would not betray Jon, not even to their father. (Arya II, AGoT)

George is heavy-handed in the way he includes how much they miss + love each other, and what they mean for - and to - one another. George wrote them as inseparable, as true soulmates, as people who would break any vows to be with one another again, and that's the most beautiful aspect of the series there is.

Home is a person to Jon and Arya and it's one another. They are each other's safe havens and hearts and homes.

He would give anything to be with her now, to muss up her hair once more and watch her make a face, to hear her finish a sentence with him.

And he did. He gave his life. And the very first lesson he gave to her was the one that he thought of.

Jon fell to his knees. He found the dagger's hilt and wrenched it free. In the cold night air the wound was smoking. "Ghost," he whispered. Pain washed over him. Stick them with the pointy end. When the third dagger took him between the shoulder blades, he gave a grunt and fell face-first into the snow. He never felt the fourth knife. Only the cold… (Jon XIII, ADwD)

That makes me think of this:

He is a man of the Night's Watch, she thought, as he sang about some stupid lady throwing herself off some stupid tower because her stupid prince was dead. The lady should go kill the ones who killed her prince. (Cat of the Canals, AFfC)

Because of the proximity of the Wall to Braavos, Arya does hear about him:

But they were all dead now, even Arya, everyone but her half-brother, Jon. Some nights she heard talk of him, in the taverns and brothels of the Ragman's Harbor. The Black Bastard of the Wall, one man had called him. Even Jon would never know Blind Beth, I bet. That made her sad. (The Blind Girl, ADwD)

Undoubtedly she will hear of his death. And she will break her vows to go to him. And she'll finally go to the place she had struggled to reach before.

My Selections for GRAMMYS 2020

Continuing what I started last year here’s my reaction to the GRAMMY Nominations with my selections for who I believe should win, and also who I would have picked for each category.

Let me first lay out the ground rules: - I will be following the time frame for eligibility which is October 1st 2018 to September 30th 2019. - I will be ignoring categories for genres I don’t listen to enough. Metal, Country, Classical, Jazz, will be left off. - I am ignoring that the Performance categories are a mixture of recordings and live performances and just treating them as genre specific “Records of the year” awards. The one’s with “Song” in the title are geared more towards the song writing. - I will first make my selection of the available options. Bold and underlines will be my top selection with underlined not bold as my runner up. - I will then make my own selections for each category and who I think should win out of that. - My selection is not just a list of my favorite albums. My selections will be a balancing act taking in account artistic accomplishments, Impact both culturally and popularity as well as what I personally think is good. - I made a few liberties with some of my selections, mostly from the rules for eligibility being vague in spots. - This list is just all my biased suggestions. Jon Snow and Dragons (Part I: Of the Existence of Dragons and Their Dangers)

Introductory Note

This analysis is based on book quotes mentioning dragons, taken mostly from Jon's chapters. Other POV chapters were only quoted if they were conversing with Jon and dragons came up, or if relevant to the current discussion. I bolded the parts I found interesting.

Warning: spoilers for all published books, mention of a very popular theory on Jon's parentage. Plus, I have watched the show, so I'm sure it must be coloring my opinions.

Part I: Of the Existence of Dragons and Their Dangers

Of the Existence of Dragons

[Jon] had the Stark face if not the name: long, solemn, guarded, a face that gave nothing away. Whoever his mother had been, she had left little of herself in her son. "What are you reading about?" he asked.

"Dragons," Tyrion told him.

"What good is that? There are no more dragons," the boy said with the easy certainty of youth.

"So they say," Tyrion replied. "Sad, isn't it? When I was your age, I used to dream of having a dragon of my own." (AGOT, Tyrion II)

At the start of the series, Jon Snow tells us: "there are no more dragons", just moments after Tyrion was reflecting on his parentage. How ironic. Since Jon has no reason to question his beliefs, the next volumes find him issuing similar opinions on the subject:

"I have never seen a dragon."

"No one has. The last dragons died a hundred years ago or more. But this was before that." (Ygritte & Jon, ASOS, Jon V)

We should have twenty trebuchets, not two, and they should be mounted on sledges and turntables so we could move them. It was a futile thought. He might as well wish for another thousand men, and maybe a dragon or three. (ASOS, Jon VIII)

And finally:

"Pyp should learn to hold his tongue. I have heard the same from others. King's blood, to wake a dragon. Where Melisandre thinks to find a sleeping dragon, no one is quite sure. It's nonsense. Mance's blood is no more royal than mine own. He has never worn a crown nor sat a throne. He's a brigand, nothing more. There's no power in brigand's blood." (Jon, AFFC, Samwell I)

"He is not dead. Stannis is the Lord's chosen, destined to lead the fight against the dark. I have seen it in the flames, read of it in ancient prophecy. When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone. Dragonstone is the place of smoke and salt."

Jon had heard all this before. "Stannis Baratheon was the Lord of Dragonstone, but he was not born there. He was born at Storm's End, like his brothers." (ADWD, Jon X)

I'm sure Jon isn't the only person to find this notion nonsensical. Far from it in fact. But we readers know all about the return of the dragons in the East, which did involve blood magic. Also, if R+L=J is true, then Jon has indeed royal blood… another way to point out that Jon Snow knows nothing (compared to us) and that dragons can indeed be woken.

In "A Dance with Dragons",  Jon hears from Tycho Nestoris of "troubling reports":

The narrow sea is perilous this time of year, and of late there have been troubling reports of strange ships seen amongst the Stepstones."

"Salladhor Saan?"

"The Lysene pirate? Some say he has returned to his old haunts, this is so. And Lord Redwyne's war fleet creeps through the Broken Arm as well. On its way home, no doubt. But these men and their ships are well-known to us. No, these other sails … from farther east, perhaps … one hears queer talk of dragons."

"Would that we had one here. A dragon might warm things up a bit."

"My lord jests. You will forgive me if I do not laugh. We Braavosi are descended from those who fled Valyria and the wroth of its dragonlords. We do not jape of dragons."

No, I suppose not. "My apologies, Lord Tycho." (ADWD, Jon IX)

He doesn't take the assertion very seriously, as you can tell. And who can blame him? (well, aside from people who don’t think dragon jokes are funny). It's rumors… for now.

However, considering Aegon and the Golden Company's arrival in Westeros and Sam finding out the truth in Braavos, I think we can safely say Jon's beliefs on dragons will find themselves challenged in the future, if he survives his stabbing that is.

It's not unlikely Jon will want the dragons on their side in the fight against the Others. Why?

Remember his throwaway comments in the quotes above :

"He might as well wish for another thousand men, and maybe a dragon or three" (ASOS, Jon VIII)

"Would that we had one here. A dragon might warm things up a bit." (ADWD, Jon IX)

Add to this Maester Aemon's belief, that Daenerys was their hope (because of dragons):

"No one ever looked for a girl," he said. "It was a prince that was promised, not a princess. Rhaegar, I thought . . . the smoke was from the fire that devoured Summerhall on the day of his birth, the salt from the tears shed for those who died. He shared my belief when he was young, but later he became persuaded that it was his own son who fulfilled the prophecy, for a comet had been seen above King's Landing on the night Aegon was conceived, and Rhaegar was certain the bleeding star had to be a comet. What fools we were, who thought ourselves so wise! The error crept in from the translation. Dragons are neither male nor female, Barth saw the truth of that, but now one and now the other, as changeable as flame. The language misled us all for a thousand years. Daenerys is the one, born amidst salt and smoke. The dragons prove it." Just talking of her seemed to make him stronger. "I must go to her. I must. Would that I was even ten years younger."

"No," the old man said. "It must be you. Tell them. The prophecy . . . my brother's dream . . . Lady Melisandre has misread the signs. Stannis . . . Stannis has some of the dragon blood in him, yes. His brothers did as well. Rhaelle, Egg's little girl, she was how they came by it . . . their father's mother . . . she used to call me Uncle Maester when she was a little girl. I remembered that, so I allowed myself to hope . . . perhaps I wanted to . . . we all deceive ourselves, when we want to believe. Melisandre most of all, I think. The sword is wrong, she has to know that . . . light without heat . . . an empty glamor . . . the sword is wrong, and the false light can only lead us deeper into darkness, Sam. Daenerys is our hope. Tell them that, at the Citadel. Make them listen. They must send her a maester. Daenerys must be counseled, taught, protected. For all these years I've lingered, waiting, watching, and now that the day has dawned I am too old. I am dying, Sam." Tears ran from his blind white eyes at that admission. (AFFC, Samwell IV)

Unless Sam never gets around to telling him, I don't think Jon would dismiss one of his mentors' opinion so easily.

But is relying on dragons really the safest way to defeat the Others? As Aemon just told us, "we all deceive ourselves, when we want to believe".

Of Dragons and Their Dangers

In fact, Jon is exposed to plenty of evidence that speaks of the dragons being dangerous.

Exhibit A: the rest of Jon and Tyrion's conversation about dragons.

"(…) When I was your age, I used to dream of having a dragon of my own."

"You did?" the boy said suspiciously. Perhaps he thought Tyrion was making fun of him.

"Oh, yes. Even a stunted, twisted, ugly little boy can look down over the world when he's seated on a dragon's back." Tyrion pushed the bearskin aside and climbed to his feet. "I used to start fires in the bowels of Casterly Rock and stare at the flames for hours, pretending they were dragonfire. Sometimes I'd imagine my father burning. At other times, my sister."

Jon Snow was staring at him, a look equal parts horror and fascination. Tyrion guffawed. "Don't look at me that way, bastard. I know your secret. You've dreamt the same kind of dreams."

"No," Jon Snow said, horrified. "I wouldn't …" (AGOT, Tyrion II)

Jon is understandably horrified at what Tyrion is insinuating.

What we can conclude: Dragons can be used to burn people (not a mind-blowing conclusion, I realise). Even your family if that your thing…

Exhibit B:

"Ashes and cinders."

"Kings and dragons."

Dragons again. For a moment Jon could almost see them too, coiling in the night, their dark wings outlined against a sea of flame.

"If she knew, she would have taken the boy away from us. Dalla's boy, not your monster. A word in the king's ear would have been the end of it." And of me. Stannis would have taken it for treason. "Why let it happen if she knew?"

"Because it suited her. Fire is a fickle thing. No one knows which way a flame will go." Val put a foot into a stirrup, swung her leg over her horse's back, and looked down from the saddle. "Do you remember what my sister told you?" (ADWD, Jon VIII)

What Dalla told him:

Jon faced him. "If you've had the Horn of Joramun all along, why haven't you used it? Why bother building turtles and sending Thenns to kill us in our beds? If this horn is all the songs say, why not just sound it and be done?"

It was Dalla who answered him, Dalla great with child, lying on her pile of furs beside the brazier. "We free folk know things you kneelers have forgotten. Sometimes the short road is not the safest, Jon Snow. The Horned Lord once said that sorcery is a sword without a hilt. There is no safe way to grasp it." (ASOS, Jon X)

Melisandre gives a counter-argument to this:

He turned back to the red priestess. Jon could feel her warmth. She has power. The thought came unbidden, seizing him with iron teeth, but this was not a woman he cared to be indebted to, not even for his little sister. "Dalla told me something once. Val's sister, Mance Rayder's wife. She said that sorcery was a sword without a hilt. There is no safe way to grasp it."

"A wise woman." Melisandre rose, her red robes stirring in the wind. "A sword without a hilt is still a sword, though, and a sword is a fine thing to have when foes are all about. (ADWD, Jon VI)

What we can conclude:

Dragons are associated with kings, ashes and cinders.

Fire is a fickle thing, and so is sorcery. Dragons are no different. As Maester Aemon said: "Dragons are neither male nor female, Barth saw the truth of that, but now one and now the other, as changeable as flame." (AFFC, Samwell IV)

Sometimes the short road is not the safest: Dragons might destroy a lot of the dead, but also a lot of the living as well.

A treacherous weapon is better than no weapon if you have foes. There's risk of personal injury however.

Exhibit C:

"My lord jests. You will forgive me if I do not laugh. We Braavosi are descended from those who fled Valyria and the wroth of its dragonlords. We do not jape of dragons."

No, I suppose not. "My apologies, Lord Tycho." (ADWD, Jon IX)

What we can conclude: Angering dragons or dragonlords has consequences.

Exhibit D:

Burning dead children had ceased to trouble Jon Snow; live ones were another matter. Two kings to wake the dragon. The father first and then the son, so both die kings. The words had been murmured by one of the queen's men as Maester Aemon had cleaned his wounds. Jon had tried to dismiss them as his fever talking. Aemon had demurred. "There is power in a king's blood," the old maester had warned, "and better men than Stannis have done worse things than this." The king can be harsh and unforgiving, aye, but a babe still on the breast? Only a monster would give a living child to the flames. (ADWD, Jon I)

"Refuse, and the boy will burn. Not on the morrow, nor the day after … but soon, whenever Melisandre needs to wake a dragon or raise a wind or work some other spell requiring king's blood. Mance will be ash and bone by then, so she will claim his son for the fire, and Stannis will not deny her. If you do not take the boy away, she will burn him." (ADWD, Jon II)

"Pyp should learn to hold his tongue. I have heard the same from others. King's blood, to wake a dragon." (AFFC, Samwell I)

"I looked at that book Maester Aemon left me. The Jade Compendium. The pages that told of Azor Ahai. Lightbringer was his sword. Tempered with his wife's blood if Votar can be believed. Thereafter Lightbringer was never cold to the touch, but warm as Nissa Nissa had been warm. In battle the blade burned fiery hot. Once Azor Ahai fought a monster. When he thrust the sword through the belly of the beast, its blood began to boil. Smoke and steam poured from its mouth, its eyes melted and dribbled down its cheeks, and its body burst into flame."

What we can conclude:

Lightbringer seems to have an effect similar to dragons.

The price for dragons is high.

Conclusion

Currently, Jon Snow believes dragons to be extinct. If he survives and finds out about their return, textual evidence suggests he might be interested in them as a potential weapon against the Others. However, Jon's chapters seem to contain warnings about their use. Which asks the question: will he heed them?

Season 7 Episode 4: The Spoils of War

Winterfell:

Littlefinger once again portrays he's the smartest man in Westeros(TM) by GIVING BRAN THE DAGGER SENT TO CUT HIS THROAT????? Clearly he wants Bran to remember all the fun he had while lying in a coma while his mother fought off the man sent to kill him. Ah, good times. “Remember how your mom tried to find out who that dagger belonged to, and that started the war, and then your dad was killed, and then the Boltons took Winterfell and burned it to the ground so you had to flee, and then your mom and brother were killed, and then Jojen was killed, and then Hodor and Summer were killed, and then Rickon and Shaggydog were killed? Well, if these things hadn't happened you wouldn't be this creepy kid saying creepy stuff to his surviving family members today, so if you really think about it, isn't it a good thing all of that happened? As I recently read on pinterest, Happiness isn't a Destination; it's a Journey. I'm so wisdomly.”

But Bran has been on pinterest, too, and he has seen the Baelish memes. “Chaaaaaaosss is ah laddah!” he replies, and Littlefinger is not amused. “This is what happens when you don't stick to the accent you had in season 1! I knew I never should have tried to improve upon my creepiness,” he grumbles and leaves to carve “Petyr luvs Sansa,” into the privy door.

Enter Meera, who has come to say a tearful goodbye and remind Bran of all the sacrifices his companions have made for him along the way. But Bran has grander things on his mind and doesn't really appreciate being reminded of mundane things like his friends and pet dying for him. Seriously, Meera, you're so annoying. With your feelings. Ugh.

And then it's YET ANOTHER STARK REUNION! D&D really are wasting no time getting all of these kids back together again. After a recycled “The guards won't let Arya in because she doesn't look like Arya” scene (how original, that never happened before! *cough* King's Landing *cough*), Arya manages to sneak into the crypts. WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH ALL THE STARKS HANGING OUT IN THE CRYPTS THIS SEASON???

Sansa finds her there, and the two sisters catch up on their girl talk and how they both wanted to kill King Joffrey. Arya talks about her kill list, and... does Sansa think she's kidding, or why is she laughing awkwardly?

Bran wastes no time creeping Arya out, too. “I know everything about everyone, including your kill list. Want a Valyrian steel dagger?” he asks his sister, who happily accepts. So this is why Arya had Littlefinger's dagger in the Entertainment Weekly pictures? BORING!!!!

Arya immediately puts the dagger to good use during a practice lesson with Brienne, where we learn that Arya and Brienne are about equally well matched.... Sure. That makes perfect sense. Next week on the Briarya Challenge: Who bakes the better pie?

Meanwhile, Sansa and Petyr... talk??? What?!?!?!? I thought Sansa was super annoyed by his presence and wanted him to go away? Or at the very least, I thought Sansa was very wary of him??? But now she... shares her experiences with him??? What?!?!?!?! I never understand these two. I want season 4 back.

King's Landing:

Queen Cersei has promised swift repayment to the Iron Bank, and Tycho Nestoris is pleased. But why stop business relations there? Tycho promises support for all of Cersei's new ventures, as long as the Lannister soldiers proudly display the Iron Bank's logo during the next battle. No, but wouldn't that be awesome?

Dragonstone:

Jon does all he can to convince Dany of the threat in the North. After he's lured her into a cave (and we all know what Jon Snow is capable of in caves) he gives Dany her very first dragon glass boner, and then lures her even deeper to show her some very convenient pictures on the wall... “So this is what happened to Princess Shireen's finger paint!” Missandei thinks to herself.

“These carvings are super old, and not new at all,” Jon assures Dany. “That's why the paint looks so new! It was, uhm, extra durable super paint. I totally did not just paint these to convince you. That white stain on my shirt? Oh, that's... from when I was at the wall. We, uh, renovated, because the IKEA Mole's Town had a super sale.”

Dany is convinced and promises her help... if Jon bends the knee. But let's face it, it wouldn't be the first time Jon bends the knee to a woman in a cave, amirite? Should I stop with the jokes?

But the (supposed) joy does not last long, because Tyrion and Varys have come to share the sad news: They took Casterly Rock, but lost the Reach. “That does it!” concludes Dany. “Enough with the clever plans, at least half the viewers don't really get them, anyway. I will jump on my dragon now and give the viewers the battle they've been craving for.”

Jon begs to differ. “The viewers are fed up with those stereotypical Good vs. Evil/Big Battle/The Good Ones Win-Fantasy stories, your grace. They watch us because we are different! We are smart, our characters are morally ambiguous, and not all of our battles are won on the battlefield. Some of them are won with quill and parchment. The season finale is still three episodes away. It would be anticlimactic to have a big battle now. Wait three more episodes, and talk to Tyrion in the meantime. He might say a few more funny things that look good on a T-Shirt.”

Davos, in the meantime, ships Jon x Dany, and... I think he tries to flirt with Missandei? Later Theon returns, and he and Jon have an awkward reunion.

The Reach:

Sadly, Dany did not listen to Jon. Jaime and the rest of the Lannister soldiers are escorting their booty back to King's Landing and have just paused for some smalltalk with the squarest man I have ever seen, Dickon Tarly. Because D&D have class and dignity and their Emmy was well deserved (hint: HEAVY SARCASM), we are treated to a dick joke, when...

IT'S DOTHRAKI SURFING ON HORSES. Yes. Dothraki surfing on horses. Just when I thought this show could not get more ridiculous we get Dothraki. Surfing. On. Horses. Seven save me. Did D&D watch one too many westerns???

For a reason I cannot fathom, Jaime & friends took Qyburn's dragon-killing crossbow thingy WITH THEM, because... #alwaysprepared??? And Bronn, heroically, SHOOTS DROGON!!! YAAAY— Wait, what? No! I don't know! Drogon just torched a lot of (relatively) innocent people, but... that's what dragons do, right? Besides, Dany made him do it, so it's not his fault! All in all, I think my love of animals wins out here. Poor Drogon. I hope you don't die. But I also hope this experience has changed you, and you won't kill anyone ever again. #worldpeace

Daenerys had accepted the letter from Tyrion expecting to find that Jon had completed his task and was returning to Winterfell.She had not been expecting to discover that, while Jon was indeed returning to his kingdom, he was not returning alone. It seemed Tycho Nestoris, the most renowned of Bravos’ bankers, was to travel with the King in the North. GOT: Episode 7 x 03 Review

You know, for a season that D & D have been hyping as “nonstop action,” I’m rather bored. Just because the pacing is fast does not mean anything of actual substance is happening. Episode 3 proves that.

The episode opens with Jon and Daenerys meeting for the first time; a meeting that has been hyped since the show began. And it was remarkably underwhelming. As to be expected, Deadpan Targaryen is only concerned with the throne, and Jon tries to tell her that they have bigger fish to fry and that winning the throne will be for nought if the White Walkers invade Westeros. They have a back and forth on what’s more important: Jon bending the knee or the fight to the North, which goes nowhere after 20 minutes. But hey, we got some memeworthy Daenerys reading off all her titles and Papa Davos saying “This is Jon Snow” so LOL. (BTW, is Davos even a character anymore? I feel like he exists solely to be a straw man and fatherly mansplainer.) Also, why is Jon’s resurrection a secret now? You’d think with this show logic even Hot Pie would know about that.

 The thing is, I really want to sympathize with these characters. If Emilia Clarke didn’t play Daenerys as so god damn deadpan, she almost would’ve had a nice speech about how she is not going to back down after all she’s been through. I’m shocked that they acknowledged that Drogo raped her when it turned into TRUE LUB on the show. And if there are bigger fish to fry, then why doesn’t Jon doesn’t bend the knee, especially considering Winterfell isn’t even his god damn birthright anyways?

 But dramatically satisfyingTM, amirite?

 There are also a few scenes at Dragonstone that reflect the sad truth that GOT has become a parody of itself. Jon stands brooding on a ledge and Tyrion gives him shade for it. Tyrion tries to outsass and mansplain things to Daenerys and she calls him out for making shit up and pretending it’s the most sage advice ever. I honestly can’t tell you what any of them talked about other than mining Dragonglass, that’s how boring those scenes were.

Remember when these characters actually had development, guys? What sweet summer children we were.

Speaking of ruined character development, we see Euron parading Yara and the Sand Fakes around a cheering King’s Landing. Because no one cares that Cersei blew hundreds of people up and it was totally an accident? MMkay. Euron brings Ellaria and Tyene as a gift to Cersei and then asks Jaime if she likes being butt-fingered, I shit you not.

Cersei locks up Ellaria and Tyene and basically kills Tyene the same way Myrcella was killed by kissing her with poisoned lips. Yet another example of characters somehow finding out exactly what happened offscreen because it is convenient. The scene is also an example of Lena Headey and Indira Varma blowing it out of the park despite lazy writing. These actors are too good for the material they were given to work with, and it shows. It’s hilarious how many roles D & D have “reconceived to suit their actor’s talents” that actually ended up being less dramatic and meaty than they would’ve been had they followed the source material. But it looks like we’re done with Dorne for good at least.

Next we see Cersei giving Jaime a blowjob because they are just in true love, guys. And then they end up doing the do and I believe Lena’s body double is back. I just don’t understand why D & D are trying to push the twincest on us, but god damn. How little regard they have for Jaime’s character arc is astounding.

 Cersei also has a conversation with Tycho Nestoris from the Iron Bank in which she demands money because Dany will free all of the Iron Bank’s slaves....even though Braavos doesn’t permit slavery?

Just counting down the days until Confederate is cancelled, good grief.

I will say it was surprising to see a scene that was attempting to establish some sort of logistics even though it failed miserably.

Back in Winterhell, Sansa is a boss ass bitch and tells everyone what to do as if they are not experienced lords. This totally would’ve been earned if D & D had actually followed Sansa’s political plotline from the books, but I guess rape powers make you a leader. Littlefinger, who is officially the most pointless character on the show at this point, takes Sansa aside to give her a nonsensical speech thats only purpose was to fill the season 7 trailer. He is interrupted, however, by the return of Bran. But unlike the genuinely heartwarming reunion that was with Jon and Sansa, Bran is now a robot because the three-eyed raven must have no emotion for some reason. Sansa, of course, has no idea what Bran is talking about, so Bran decides the best way to demonstrate his powers is to remind Sansa of being raped and tell her how beautiful she was when it happened.

I screamed “WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK” at my TV.

D & D are seriously messed up. They aren’t just incompetent, they are fucked up.

There are just so many things wrong with this. One, we did not see Bran’s transformation into this robot, so we can’t just accept this drastic change without reason. As of last season, Bran still seemed human. Of course, the deaths of Hodor and Summer were tragic, but Bran doesn’t even bring them up as a reason for his detachment. So this sudden character change just comes out of nowhere. And even so, the fact that D & D gleefully like to trigger Sansa and the audience like this by bringing up rape for no reason just shows how juvenile they are.

And Bran. Well, they’ve never been invested in his character development since Season 2, so at this point it’s easy to just call him a plot device and not try to explain anything.

Well, RIP book Bran. Book Jaime’s holding a seat for you.

Oh, and there’s also a scene showing that Jorah is OK and basically all you needed to do to cure Greyscale was peel it off, because of course it would be that easy. Jorah decides to go stalk KHALEESI, Sam experiences the very real task of being an unpaid intern who doesn’t get credit for anything, and that plotline went nowhere and served no purpose! But someone needed to get greyscale because….?

Oh, and there’s a pointless Theon scene just to show he survived.

I am literally trying to remember what else happened this episode, but it was so boring that my mind is blanking….oh yeah! There were some fights somewhere. Grey Worm and the unsullied storm Casterly Rock, and Tyrion narrates how they’ll go in through his hoe-door because he is oh-so-clever, but oops! They get bamboozled by Euron Greyjoy. It turns out most of the Lannister forces were actually marching on Highgarden and take it offscreen because gay people obviously don’t know how to fight.

I have to laugh at Benioff’s ignorant-ass comments in the “Behind the Episode” sequence. Like, bitch, do you remember who won the battle of Blackwater? So much blatant homophobia in assuming a house that has an openly gay character has a shit army when the whole point of season 2 was showing that the Lannisters needed their army? HOW did GRRM decide these guys were the best choice to adapt the show again?

Anyways, Jaime confronts a defeated Olenna. Olenna, who is just too damn good for this show, agrees to drink poison as her execution, and then reveals to Jaime she was behind Joffrey’s death. She has the same thing on her mind as the audience: Why the fuck is Jaime still with Cersei? A woman who’s committed the atrocities the Mad King threatened to do? Jaime retorts with some bullshit and leaves Olenna to die, but she’s the real winner here, escaping this shitty writing and absolute bullshit. Oh, and she calls Joffrey a cunt because swearing is cool (I know, I am guilty of being a potty mouth, but that’s not out of character for me).

Oh! And I just remembered that Varys and Melisandre have a conversation. It wasn’t a bad conversation, and it wasn’t even out of character, but I was so outraged by all of the things happened this episode that acceptable scenes fell through the cracks.

I am just stunned that even shownlies could watch this crap and think it’s anything more than shock value entertainment. The writing just keeps on getting lazier and lazier, and it didn’t even pay off with anything of real excitement or value. Even the fanservice is lackluster. I am actually dreading Season 8 at this point. It is so obvious D & D just want to be done and they don’t care about logic as long as they can get from point A to point B.

If anything, the show has made me appreciate the books more, so I guess that’s one positive that’s come from this.

A servant had come to escort Jon to Tycho’s villa. A beautiful place of white marble with high ceilings and a beautiful view of the ocean. The dinner served was unlike anything Jon had ever had before. Exotic and spicy and perhaps the best thing Jon had eaten in years. And the conversation, light and simple and natural in a way talking to someone hadn’t been since his time among the Free Folk.By the time dessert was served, Jon was started to feel the impulse to just push the decadent looking cake aside, crawl over the table into Tycho’s lap and kiss the man senseless.He fought that impulse though, not wanting to seem like some brutish fool, and the first bite of the cake, moist and rich and flavored with some sort of sweet fruit that he couldn’t even hope to name, made him moan. Perhaps a little too much because Tycho stilled, his fork half raised to his mouth, eyes wide as he looked at Jon but, rather than feel embarrassed, seeing the desire burning in Tycho’s eyes, Jon set his fork down and stood.

Tycho watched him as he stepped around the table, his own food quickly pushed aside, and Jon smiled as he lightly, easily, slid into Tycho’s lap, fingers threading through the man’s hair as he leaned down to kiss him. Tycho groaned into the kiss, hands grasping at Jon’s hips, drawing him closer, bucking upwards as they both hardened, Jon licking his way into the older man’s mouth with a desire he had not truly felt since Ygritte.It was a bit of blur from there to the bed chamber, Jon couldn’t clearly recall it even if he tried, but in seemed in the blink of an eye they were sprawling on the grand bed, Tycho stripped down to his trousers while tugging Jon’s shirt up.The older man stilled though when Jon’s chest was bared, revealing the scars that littered the young King’s body. Gentle fingers brushed over the scar that had killed Jon, all those years ago now, and the questioning look on Tycho’s face was met with a shake of Jon’s head.“I’ll explain later,” Jon said, reaching up, tugging Tycho over him further, arching up, hips bucking against Tycho’s and receiving a hiss of pleasure from the older man. “Right now I want you to fuck me senseless.”Tycho groaned again, kissing Jon, deeply, passionately, and Jon keened softly as his legs opened wider, the invitation clear. When they parted, gasping and panting for breath, Tycho trailed kisses down one side of Jon’s neck and up the other before whispering in the King in the North’s ear.“I can do that.”
