Happy Birthday James “Midge” Ure born October 10th 1953 in Cambuslang.

Born to a working class family Ure attended Cambuslang Primary School and Rutherglen Academy in Glasgow until he was 15 years old. For the first 10 years of his life he lived in a one-bedroom tenement flat. After leaving school Ure attended Motherwell Technical College and then began to work as an engineer, training at the National Engineering Laboratory (NEL), in nearby East Kilbride.

Midge started playing music in a Glasgow band called Stumble in 1969, before joining Salvation, a Glasgow-based group that became the bubblegum band Slik in 1974. Upset in the change of direction, Ure left the band to join the Rich Kids, a punk-pop group led by former Sex Pistol bassist Glen Matlock. The Rich Kids only released one album, 1978’s Ghosts of Princes in Towers, before breaking up later that year. Ure spent a brief time with the Misfits (not the American band) before forming Visage with drummer Rusty Egan and vocalist Steve Strange; he left the group to replace Gary Moore in Thin Lizzy, who had left in the middle of an American tour. After the tour was finished, Ure fulfilled an agreement to join Ultravox as the replacement for John Foxx.

Once he joined the band in 1980, Ure helped make Ultravox a mainstream success; during this time he also worked as a producer, making records with Steve Harley and Modern Man. In 1982, Ure released a solo single, a cover of the Walker Brothers’ hit “No Regrets”; it climbed into the U.K. Top Ten. Ure and Bob Geldof formed Band Aid, a special project to aid famine relief efforts in Ethiopia, in 1984. The two wrote the song “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” and assembled an all-star band of musicians to record the single; it sold millions of copies over the 1984 holiday season.

In 1985, Ultravox was put on hiatus and Ure began to pursue a full-time solo career. Recorded entirely by Ure, his 1985 solo debut, The Gift, launched the number one single “If I Was,” as well as the minor hits “That Certain Smile” and “Call of the Wild.” The following year, he recorded the final Ultravox album; in 1987, the band broke up and he began recording his second solo album. The resulting record, 1988’s Answers to Nothing, was less successful than The Gift in the U.K., yet it charted in the U.S., which is something Ure’s previous album failed to do. Three years later, Ure released his third album, Pure; while it didn’t do any business in America, the album featured the Top 20 British hit “Cold, Cold Heart.” He attempted a comeback in 1996 with Breathe, which went ignored by both the American and British markets. Four years later, his score for the Jon Cryer drama-comedy Went to Coney Island was issued by the Evenmore label.

Ure’s recording activity during the 2000s began with Move Me, which featured some surprisingly hard rocking material. A few years later, he published an autobiography, If I Was, and then, with Geldof, arranged the Live 8 concerts.

Following the release of the covers-oriented 10 IN 2008, Ure participated in an Ultravox reunion and continued to record as a solo artist. Fragile was issued in 2014, and featured the Moby collaboration “Dark, Dark Night.” In 2017, he collaborated with composer Ty Unwin on the album Orchestrated, which featured orchestral reworkings of Ultravox songs, as well as songs from his solo career.

In 2020 Midge released an album Soundtrack 1978-2019, he was one of the lucky artists to have completed his tour promoting this in February that year.

Midge has recently revealed why he turned down an offer to join the Sex Pistols, telling The Telegraph that he considered that taking up the invitation from the band's manager Malcolm McLaren would have been like "joining a slightly edgier Bay City ­Rollers". He received the offer to join the fledgling punk band back in 1975, while on a visit to McCormack’s instrument hire shop in Glasgow.

In an interview published in the Telegraph he said;

"I was stopped in the street by the Clash’s manager, Bernie Rhodes, who then introduced me to Malcolm McLaren, I didn’t know who either of them was, but they literally asked me to join the Sex Pistols without even asking what I did. To me it would have been like joining a slightly edgier Bay City Rollers, so I turned them down.

Last October Midge celebrated seven decades of music with a concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

Lovich, before 27 dates in Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales ending in December, he then travels to United Arab Emirates for a gig in February, March sees the hard working Scot play 11 nights in Sweden and Germany.

Midge Ure is one of Scotland’s all-time most successful musicians. He is married with four daughters and lives in Somerset.

    Standing at the large chair in the throne room of Erodios Castle was the castle's young lord, Devin Elken. He had his arms folded behind him as he stared forward. Meanwhile, Paige remained before him as the maiden talked with her lieutenant Victoria Sidney using the golden MAF badge which was on the buckle of her belt.

    "No!" cried Paige. "Hope, my cousin? She was taken by those people?"

    "I am sorry, McCormack," replied the voice of Victoria. "We were unable to fend against them. Those people have abilities that we of the Midas Armed Forces have never seen."

    The calm Devin shook his head and responded "Then all is lost. Hope is but one of the puzzles of my visions."

    "I did recognize two of the assailants however," reported Victoria. "The man I fought was indeed a relative of a few criminals that still serve time in prison. And the other was an inmate that escaped from the Asprosippos Prison last year. This member was the murderer of 12 people including one small child in Kansas."

    And the voice of Keira Fakinos claimed "I remember that time. He was among a few escapees that tried to murder my cousin."

    Then Victoria informed Paige "I will return to the castle immediately. We must figure out a way to save your cousin."

    "Of course, Lieutenant," said Paige.

    After that, a sickened Paige held her head with both hands as she fell onto her knees.

    A sad Devin lowered his head and whispered "My poor Hope."

    By the doors of the throne room inside the dark hallway, the seer Alexis Sanyo stood with her eyes closed while both students -- Duo Storms and Jonny Griffin -- remained at the other side.

    "It is a tragedy," said Alexis. "We will do what we can to resolve this. We will bring Hope McCormack safely back from Mayne Jarnsaxa and his minions."

    Duo hurried to her as he cried "Those bastards took Hope and left just like that?"

    "Be calm, Duo Storms," informed Alexis. "Lieutenant Sidney and I are now devising a plan to rescue Hope McCormack. The vision that was told by Lord Elken will not come to pass."

    Jonny walked toward them and added "But we have Duo here. He's the other part of Elken's vision."

    Alexis opened her eyes and responded "The lieutenant and I have agreed that it is best that you remain safe in the castle, Duo Storms."

    "But I can help!" Duo told her. "I won't let them bastards get to me like they did Hope!"

    "The decision has been made," answered Alexis. "We cannot take any chances. I do apologize for this, Duo Storms. But you will stay within these walls."

    The doors of the throne room opened. And both Devin and Paige walked out to the others. But they were joined by the other knight, Silvan Justinian.

    Devin informed the seer Alexis "My guards have been instructed to keep Duo Storms in the castle."

    An angered Duo lowered his head as Silvan added "Some of my knights will stay and guard Duo as well."

    "Ah man!" cried Duo. "This is ridiculous!"

    Jonny walked toward the back of Duo and told him "Tai was this way too."

    Duo turned to the gloomy youth and thought to himself for a moment.

    "Lady Sanyo," responded Jonny. "I'll stay and keep Storms company."

    "That is a good idea," Alexis told him. "I am certain you Jon Griffin will keep Mr. Storms from going through the wrong path."

    Silvan asked "Will you fight alongside us, Lady Sanyo?"

    Alexis turned to the young soldier while her hands remained together behind her.

    And the kind woman answered "We must be certain that this final battle between the united forces and the Agents of Light come out with no casualties. For that to happen, I must accompany you."

    Paige shook her head and responded "That would be a great help if you were to go to battle with us. Your abilities will be a perfect addition against the assailants."

    Then Alexis ordered "We will meet with the others of our fleet at the Mafic Isle. We shall creep into where they have hidden. And we bring the final battle to Mayne Jarnsaxa and his forces. Goran as well. Meanwhile, we will search for Hope McCormack and bring her from there safely. This order was made directly from Lieutenant Sidney."

    "And we will be there to accompany you," implied Silvan. "My soldiers and I will sacrifice our lives to retrieve Hope from those people."

    Silvan with a great smile turned to Devin who remained by his right side.

    And the lord Devin replied "We shall."

    Minutes later, a large army of knights led by their leader Devin had marched on their horses through the great forest. Along with them were the knight Silvan and his soldiers riding horses as well. And following them were the two soldiers from the Midas Armed Forces -- Paige McCormack and Alexis Sanyo.

    Alexis soon floated toward the back of the emotionless Devin.

    And Alexis said to the young lord while using only her thoughts "There is another reason why you head to battle."

    Devin faced her with questioning on his face as Alexis told him using her telepathy "Your love... Your unconditional love for her which has laid in secret for many years."

    Then Devin asked by using his thoughts "How do you know of this?"

    Alexis gave a soft smile as she revealed "You loved Hope McCormack since you were but small children. You have even eloped with her. She has become your wife."

    Devin faced forward and thought to the psychic "I will do what is necessary for her, even die to keep her safe."

    "It is only natural," thought Alexis. "You may have closed yourself from your own city. But you will always open yourself to the one person that has remained by your side, even from a distance."

    The emotionless Devin shook his head as he thought "I will bring her home, Eklektos mou."

    Somewhere at the Mafic Isle, Hope McCormack awoke and found herself in a small dark place. As she discovered her wrists were chained to the wall behind her, Hope also found that she was across from a locked gate.

    "It is hot here," thought Hope. "Where have they taken me?"

    A male voice softly called "You have finally awaken."

    Hope faced forward and spotted a figure walking to the other side of the gated door.

    The figure was revealed as the charming but devious gentleman called Goran. He wore a long-sleeved black shirt with a dark-purple tie around his fine collar. Along with that, he had on a pair of black dress-pants and gray socks. He also wore a pair of shiny black boots. And covering his eyes were a pair of black glasses that had black-tinted lenses.

    Hope cried "Who... Who are you?"

    Goran placed both hands inside the pockets of his pants and answered "You happen to be a guest at an abandoned temple at the hellish Mafic Isle."

    "How?" questioned Hope. "How did you know that I would ask that?"

    Goran stopped and told her using only his thoughts "I read what you were thinking when I arrived. I am a telepath. I am able to read what is said in your very mind."

    "A telepath?" implied Hope. "Of course."

    "Fear not," Goran told her. "You, fair lady McCormack. You are not to be harmed by any in my team. You are merely just bait for him."

    "For him?" repeated Hope.

    Goran gave a quick smile and responded "Honestly, you think that your short marriage to him is unknown to the likes of us? We know about your union with the Strong Arm of the Elken Dynasty."

    Hope lowered her head and asked "You want Devin?"

    "Your dear hubby," claimed Goran. "He is yet another obstacle. He is needed for the resurrection of my great lord."

    "Your lord?" questioned Hope.

    Goran responded "The Bringer of Light. He is the light that can reshape this world. But with his great wisdom, there must be requirements. And that is where the Black Lotus comes in."

    A shocked Hope looked straight at the villain and asked "What are you planning to do with him?"

    Goran gave another smile and told the prisoner "Just sit tight. Elken will come for you shortly."

    Then the clever man walked off as he added "He will make a rescue attempt. And we will be ready for him."

    "Stop!" cried Hope.

    Once Goran vanished, a fearful Hope lowered her head as tears fell from her eyes.

    "No!" She yelled. "Leave him alone! DEV!!!"

Happy Birthday James “Midge” Ure born October 10th 1953 in Cambuslang.

Born to a working class family Ure attended Cambuslang Primary School and Rutherglen Academy in Glasgow until he was 15 years old. For the first 10 years of his life he lived in a one-bedroom tenement flat. After leaving school Ure attended Motherwell Technical College and then began to work as an engineer, training at the National Engineering Laboratory (NEL), in nearby East Kilbride.

Midge started playing music in a Glasgow band called Stumble in 1969, before joining Salvation, a Glasgow-based group that became the bubblegum band Slik in 1974. Upset in the change of direction, Ure left the band to join the Rich Kids, a punk-pop group led by former Sex Pistol bassist Glen Matlock. The Rich Kids only released one album, 1978’s Ghosts of Princes in Towers, before breaking up later that year. Ure spent a brief time with the Misfits (not the American band) before forming Visage with drummer Rusty Egan and vocalist Steve Strange; he left the group to replace Gary Moore in Thin Lizzy, who had left in the middle of an American tour. After the tour was finished, Ure fulfilled an agreement to join Ultravox as the replacement for John Foxx.

Once he joined the band in 1980, Ure helped make Ultravox a mainstream success; during this time he also worked as a producer, making records with Steve Harley and Modern Man. In 1982, Ure released a solo single, a cover of the Walker Brothers’ hit “No Regrets”; it climbed into the U.K. Top Ten. Ure and Bob Geldof formed Band Aid, a special project to aid famine relief efforts in Ethiopia, in 1984. The two wrote the song “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” and assembled an all-star band of musicians to record the single; it sold millions of copies over the 1984 holiday season.

In 1985, Ultravox was put on hiatus and Ure began to pursue a full-time solo career. Recorded entirely by Ure, his 1985 solo debut, The Gift, launched the number one single “If I Was,” as well as the minor hits “That Certain Smile” and “Call of the Wild.” The following year, he recorded the final Ultravox album; in 1987, the band broke up and he began recording his second solo album. The resulting record, 1988’s Answers to Nothing, was less successful than The Gift in the U.K., yet it charted in the U.S., which is something Ure’s previous album failed to do. Three years later, Ure released his third album, Pure; while it didn’t do any business in America, the album featured the Top 20 British hit “Cold, Cold Heart.” He attempted a comeback in 1996 with Breathe, which went ignored by both the American and British markets. Four years later, his score for the Jon Cryer drama-comedy Went to Coney Island was issued by the Evenmore label.

Ure’s recording activity during the 2000s began with Move Me, which featured some surprisingly hard rocking material. A few years later, he published an autobiography, If I Was, and then, with Geldof, arranged the Live 8 concerts.

Following the release of the covers-oriented 10 IN 2008, Ure participated in an Ultravox reunion and continued to record as a solo artist. Fragile was issued in 2014, and featured the Moby collaboration “Dark, Dark Night.” In 2017, he collaborated with composer Ty Unwin on the album Orchestrated, which featured orchestral reworkings of Ultravox songs, as well as songs from his solo career.

In 2020 Midge released an album Soundtrack 1978-2019, he was one of the lucky artists to have completed his tour promoting this in February that year.

Midge has recently revealed why he turned down an offer to join the Sex Pistols, telling The Telegraph that he considered that taking up the invitation from the band's manager Malcolm McLaren would have been like "joining a slightly edgier Bay City ­Rollers". He received the offer to join the fledgling punk band back in 1975, while on a visit to McCormack’s instrument hire shop in Glasgow.

In an interview published in the Telegraph he said;

"I was stopped in the street by the Clash’s manager, Bernie Rhodes, who then introduced me to Malcolm McLaren, I didn’t know who either of them was, but they literally asked me to join the Sex Pistols without even asking what I did. To me it would have been like joining a slightly edgier Bay City Rollers, so I turned them down.

On 4th October he celebrated seven decades of music with a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. He is married with four daughters and lives in Somerset.
