Joker 2 rant cause it's always a rant with me ( but a mini one) Just wanted to say this, cause everyone on the internet apparently thinks the entire planet hates musicals (Or think the entire movie going audience is boring ass men who think all musicals are lame for some godforsaken reason). I'm so fucking psyched for this shit. An artistic jukebox musical with Phoenix and Gaga?? Yes fucking please! I couldn't tell you how uninterested I was in a Joker sequel UNTIL I found out it was a musical. That trailer slapped so fucking hard I lost a tooth.

Joker 2 wasn't bad??? why were so many people so pressed abt it? i am genuinely so confused. if you hate musicals, just dont watch it.

(just a small rant here. I could have interpreted this whole film wrong so if you dont agree with my points, i dont really care. sorry for wasting your time reading this and suffering through my grammar mistakes) but Joker 2 is not for the comic geeks. its not going to be anywhere near who the Joker is on the comics or past representations in other films/media. I dont get how people didnt gather that part from the first film.

The singing wasnt at random at all and I find it absolutely disappointing how people just overlook the context and the emotion being brought with the song. Everyone's review of it was that they dont get the singing parts or that it was out of place for the scene.

The songs went along with the illusion. The songs were in place for where Arthur got triggered. His emotions and thoughts were in the song but irl the people saw him as the doped up criminal--because he is a broken person and its an inside look of how he sees both parts of himself and as The Joker. Its the same thing for Harley. The songs were feeding into her illusion of The Joker, the bad man, the person who sees the world as she does. But it in the end, it all does fall apart for Arthur as he suddenly realizes that he has a legacy, his son(?). And he wants to live for his child and Harley because he finally felt humanity. Its what stopped him from going on his angry rant as a closing statement for the jury. He's clinging to the fact that Harley saw him. He was finally perceived as a person and not a Joke. But evidently she does leave her own fantasy when she sees Arthur didn't see the world like she did and he had "humanity" in him.

She wanted to build a mountain from a little hill by feeding Arthur's delusions to make him worse so they can be worse together.

IDK 🤷 I could be just typing a bunch of words but actually saying very little but thats about as much as i have to say. All in all it was a great film. Its more creative than most films these days though you dont have to dig deep to understand it.

side note: the sets during those singing parts were so good. The rooftop scene was 🤌🤌🤌

spoilers for joker 2: a rant from a Harley Quinn lover

I know I haven’t been back in forever but what better way to come back then with a little joker 2 rant lmao specifically about Harley Quinn

I haven’t seen joker two so I may be wrong but going off what I heard:

can we talk about how weird it was of a male director to take a female character who has been a victim of ab*se for basically her entire existence and turn her into a liar and manipulative aggressor???? Like ????

I totally understand the whole “it’s not actually the DC version of them” (though I think that is the weakest argument from fans and directors) but Taking parts of Harley’s original stories (her parents, the baby she has with joker) and twisting them into lies and manipulation just feels wrong to me. especially since Harley’s ab*se by joker has been so glamorized and romanticized by so many people. I feel personally like it’s kind of gross to take a women who has been beaten and borderline killed by this man, and make her his manipulator. You take a women who was insanely smart and respected that was manipulated, pushed into acid and driven to insanity, and make her commit herself for a man she’s never met. You take a women who literally hid her child from this man to protect her daughter from him, who hid a pregnancy and literally STOPPED FIGHTING SOMEONE because she found out they were expecting, and make her fake a pregnancy to manipulate a man into killing people. Taking a character who over and over again has been victimized by this man, and only now has gotten media exposure that wasn’t just “jokers girlfriend and punching bag” and turning her into his ab*ser is….. a fucking choice to say the least.

there are 50 different ways they could have made a similar point to what they claim they were trying to make, and not absolutely shit on and demolish Harley’s entire character like that. taking ab*sed women and making them the ab*ser to make the violent man from the first movie not “technically” the villain is…. Say it with me! Kinda fucking weird! Especially when I now see incels using the court testimony lady (I forget her name I’m so sorry) and Harley as excuses for Arthur’s behaviour!!!!

any friendly discussion is super welcome!!! I wanna hear others thoughts, this was just my takeaway as someone who sympathizes very heavily with Harley’s original character.

I hate when authors try to make a fight more even by dumbing down the stronger character, instead of having the weaker one use a characteristic of theirs to their advantage.

I think the weirdest dynamic you can have with someone is when you're still in the politely vibing stage with someone because you can tell you're not 100% compatible but you still enjoy their company... but they're fully letting loose on every thought and opinion even when you kinda just nod and go quiet.

I just think that if I'm politely nodding along with your h*rry p*tter interests bc we have to see each other every day, you probably shouldnt be outwardly disgusted by every show I suggest when you ask for recommendations
