Johnny Sekka (Lamine Sekka, July 21, 1934 – September 14, 2006) was a Senegalese actor.
He was born in Dakar, Senegal, the youngest of five siblings; his Gambian father died shortly after his birth. When he was still young, his Senegalese mother sent him to live with an aunt in Georgetown in the Gambia, but he ran away to live on the streets in the capital.
During WWII he found employment as an interpreter at an American air base in Dakar. He then worked on the docks. When he was 20, he stowed away on a ship to Marseilles, France, and lived for three years in Paris.
He arrived in London, England in 1952, and served for two years in the Royal Air Force, where he first received the nickname “Johnny”, but then Caribbean actor Earl Cameron persuaded him to become an actor, and he attended RADA. He became a stagehand at the Royal Court Theatre and appeared on stage in various plays from 1958.
He had a small part in the 1958 film version of Look Back in Anger. He took a leading role in the 1961 film Flame in the Streets. He met his future wife, Cecilia Enger.
He continued in British films during the 1960s, portraying stereotypical roles, such as a manservant in Woman of Straw, and in other films, such as East of Sudan, Khartoum, and The Last Safari. He appeared on television, in programs such as The Human Jungle, Z-Cars, Dixon of Dock Green, Gideon’s Way, Danger Man, and an episode of The Avengers.
He played the lead role in a West End production of Night of Fame. This was the first time that a Black actor had played a role written for a white man in English theatre.
He moved to the US to get better roles. He had a minor part in the films A Warm December and Uptown Saturday Night. These roles led to the role in Good Times, where he portrayed Ibe, Thelma’s African love interest. He starred in the movie Mohammad, Messenger of God. He appeared in Hanky Panky and played Banda in Master of the Game.
He secured a role in Roots: The Next Generations, playing an African interpreter. He is known among science fiction fans for his role as Dr. Benjamin Kylein in The Gathering. He was survived by his wife Cecilia and son. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

The Message (1977). This epic historical drama chronicles the life and times of Prophet Muhammad and serves as an introduction to early Islamic history.
It's not easy to make a movie about a man you can't show the face of, but I think The Message does a pretty good job of it. It invests in lavish cinematography, and frequently uses the camera as Muhammad's point of view, letting the film itself observe his impact as opposed to, well, him. It's an interesting film, and a compelling insertion into the religious movie epic that was so popular around this time. Still, it style doesn't always work, and the whitewashing is pretty wild to say the least. 6.5/10.

FIFTEEN COMMENTS ABOUT “BABYLON 5 - THE GATHERING”
1. “Babylon 5” was a 1990s scifi series created, written and produced by J. Michael Straczynski.
2. It’s often compared to “Star Trek Deep Space Nine” which ran about the same time, but in my opinion, B5 is by far the better series - with complex characters and a weaving storyline.
3. The show pioneered the use of CGI for spaceships and special effects. While not as defined as we see today, I think they holdup pretty well.
4. I understand that back in the day, new viewers found it hard to keep track of Babylon 5’s the complex plot, but I think it’s perfect for modern audiences used to streaming and binge watching.
5. The TV movie “The Gathering” (1993) was a pilot for the proposed series. It set up the premise and introduced all the characters that we would see evolve over the course of the 5 year run of the show.
6. Jeffery Sinclair (Michael O’Hare) is commander of Babylon 5. Its a five mile long space stations that’s a kind of “United Nations in Space”. The Earth had been involved in an interplanetary war ten years earlier. They hope the station will help to prevent future wars.
7. Delenn (Mira Fullan) is the Ambassador for the Minbari Federation. The Minbari are an ancient and powerful race. Their key physical characteristic is that have a bone like structure that grows out of the back of their heads and around to the temples. Their manner of dress is reminiscent of Japanese Kimonos. The Minbari fought the Earth ten years early then abruptly surrendered. Delenn is helpful but she secretive. (The character was planned to be male played by a woman. But that idea was dropped.)
8. Ambassador Londo Mollari (Peter Jurasik) represents the Centauri Empire. It is a race in decline far past its former glories. Londo knows this and drowns his sorrow with alcohol and gambling. In the pilot movie he’s largely played for laughs, but that will change over time during the series. The Centauri dress flamboyantly with medals, and broaches, and braids on their coats. The men have longish hair combs “up” to form a kind of cock’s comb. We’ll learn that their women by contrast have shaved heads.
9. Ambassador G’Kar (Andreas Katsulas) is the argumentative Ambassador of the Narn Regime. In the past, the Narn World was occupied by the Centauri Republic (who enslaved its people and stripped the world of its resources). The Narn eventually regained their independency but their wounds run deep. G’Kar would like nothing more than to punish the Centauri. Narn have dark mottled skin and may be amphibians.
10. Ambassador Kosh (voiced by Ardwight Chamberlain) of the Vorlon. The Vorlon are one of the oldest races in the galaxy and are very mysterious. They wear bulky environmental suits and no one has ever seen what a Vorlon really looks like.
11. The inciting incident of the movie is the attempt on Kosh’s life when he first arrives. While trying to find an antidote to the poison given to him, Babylon 5’s Dr. Kyle (Johnny Sekka) opens the encounter suit. He (but not the audience) sees something glowing but due to Doctor confidentially he refuses to tell anyone what he saw.
12. Security Chief Garibaldi (Jerry Doyle) asks the stations resident commercial telepath Lyta Alexander (Patricia Tallman) to see if she can glean anything from Kosh’s mind. She does and sees a vision of Commander Sinclair as the culprit.
13. Along for the ride are Laurel Takashima (Tamlyn Tomita) the no nonsense Lt. commander and second in charge of the stations; and Carolyn Sykes (Blaire Baron) a space trader and love interest for Sinclair. But, like Dr. Kyle, these two won’t be in the show once season one starts.
14. Tensions rise when a Vorlon battle ship arrives to destroy Babylon 5 if Kosh dies. The mystery is eventually resolved but not before both the Minbari and Narn are implicated in the plot.
15. In the final moments, the real assassin tells Sinclair “You have a hole in your mind” which sets up the major mystery for season one. It got me hooked and if I’ve perked your interest, the entire series is available for free on HBO Max.

"Muhammad: Messenger of God"
Handsomely-mounted historical epic concerns the birth of the Islamic faith and the story of the prophet Mohammed -- who, in accordance with the tenants of Islam, is never seen or heard (as this is offensive to certain islamic schools of thought). In Mecca in the 7th century, Mohammed is visited by a vision of the Angel Gabriel, who urges him to lead the people of Mecca to cast aside the 300 idols of Kaaba and instead worship the one true God. Speaking out against the corrupt political and military leaders who rule Mecca. With the help of his uncle, a brave warrior named Hamza (Anthony Quinn), Mohammed and his followers return to Mecca to liberate the city in the name of God. The Message (originally screened in the U.S. as Mohammed, Messenger of God) proved to be highly controversial during its production and initial release. The Message was shot in two versions, one in English and one in Arabic (entitled Al-Ris-Alah), with different actors taking over some of the roles due to language requirements.
First of all thanks for providing an opportunity to download this memorable piece to refresh my childhood memories.
The movie was banned at that time, in many parts of the Islamic world because of so called custodians of the Religion. They never had had this idea that a time will arrive in a few decades, when this very movie will become an Icon of spiritual inspiration for the coming generations of all Muslims and a "Message" of Islam to the non-Muslim world!
The movie has been written, screen-played and directed in a most diligent manner reflecting all the respect and expertise of the writers and makers. The "Asaa" (the stick) of the Prophet Muhammad S. and the Sword of Ali R. turns a fire on in the hearts when shown.
The movie brings all the events to life so effectively , that one start living in the moments with clear understanding, what was happening and why!! This Movie will remain one of the best historical movies of Islam...ever, IshaAllah!
Watch it today and pass it on....and on....

No a právě z takové doby je film Chartúm.
Snímek působivě zobrazuje politické pozadí britské koloniální politiky v Egyptě a Súdánu.
„I don’t trust any man who consults God before he consults me.“ – Gladstone
