This week I decided to turn to the world of TikTok to find content that displayed the passion and interests of a Janeite. Members of the fandom share the desire to get as close to the fictional characters as possible, and one way they can achieve this is by creating new stories and art using these characters. They can pluck Austen’s characters out of her novel and place them in their own writings, or in this case TikToks, to create new and relatable content. Both Lost in Austen and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies are examples of this phenomenon; they are new renditions of a classic and some Janeites applaud their innovative take on Austen’s work. There are those who are less fond of these adaptations, calling them trash for their break from cannon, but this seems to only fuel the fire of the creators’ love. 

This TikTok is one of many examples of the reader becoming the creator. The combination of two pop culture references, Pride and Prejudice and John Mulaney, creates a product for a niche audience. This in turn makes the video exclusive and therefore popular (which in this case translates to funny). Much like P&P&Z, this TikTok puts words into the characters mouths based on what the creator believes each would say when put into a new setting.

I usually saw lots of soap carving and sand carving videos but only recently found there is a whole wide variety into it and am pulled into the massage, pampering and personal attention genre. Yes, my quarantine is done! It was two weeks on the 12th, so I think I'm in the clear, now. Worst I had was a sore throat, so I guess I got lucky, considering how many cases we're having in Ontario.

I actually don't like ASMR videos AT ALL. They make me cringe and squirm along my spine and they're just VERY unpleasant for me to engage in. My whole body shrivels when I hear them. I don't enjoy them, and I don't enjoy the feelings it brings up in me, AND they make me VERY anxious. I know I'm an odd one out on that front, but I can't enjoy them, sorry :(

I'm so happy that other people get enjoyment from them, I really am, I just CAN'T.

THAT SAID, I only know of a couple ASMR fics, but I haven't read either of them yet:

@johnmulaneyquote I've been following your adventures in Gatorland on and off and was actually intrigued by your last post to @doctortwhohiddles.

Yes, there seems to be at first glance a superficial similarity between the people who call out Gator (and her ilk) and Ms. Gator herself. Afterall, both seem very dedicated to their "cause" and vehemently disagree with those who side with the opposition.

But looking deeper I think you might find that comparison doesn't hold up. Saying "Doc" and others, who call out Gator and Aeltri etc., are like Gator, is like saying the fellow who called out "The emperor has no clothes!" is just as much an attention seeker as the naked monarch.

Gator is the one who started this personal vendetta against SH - all because she didn't "like" that BC married SH. Plain and simple.

All the rest of what she "found out" is just an escalation of that dislike. The escalation began when people countered her dislike of SH with "So what's it to YOU, if he marries someone YOU don't like?". And so Gator's answer to that was to suddenly find "mutuals" who gave her "inside info" on how really evil SH was! And everytime someone said "That's not true!" Gator had to up the ante and make SH even MORE evil! And so the web spread.

All people like "Doc" etc. are doing is countering Gator's accusations with answers that basically say "No, you're wrong about all these conspiracy theories, world wide sex trafficking "theories", about SH being a murder of children, about her trying to poison BC three times (!), about her stealing MILLIONS of $$ and dying of tertiary syphilis etc.! "

So is the person who tells the crowd the emperor has no clothes the same as the emperor prancing around naked and expecting the crowds to compliment him?

And if the emperor did it every day, should the clear-eyed onlooker just shrug and look away or should they repeat the truth?

"If you run into qn asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you're the asshole".

"I was powerless against the female narcs that I watched try to destroy male family members" is SUCH a telling line, my god.
